All-new Tiger 800 roars into dealerships

Building on the successes of its popular predecessor, Triumph’s new Tiger 800 will land in UK dealerships next month. The four distinctive model derivations, headed by the XRx and XCx, are designed to give the ultimate experience for both on and off-road biking.

The rugged adventure bike, which has already enjoyed rave reviews, comes in two distinct guises; giving riders more choice than ever on how (and where) they take their bike in 2015. While the Tiger 800 XRx is ideal for road riding, the Tiger 800 XCx is packed with features that make it the perfect off-road bike.

What really puts this new Tiger 800 range ahead of the pack is its emphasis on rider focused technology. Both the XRx and XCx are the first in their class to include cruise control; making these bikes true titans of technology. The models are further supplemented by the inclusion of a full Ride by Wire system that interacts with the ECU; opening up a whole new level of technology.

With an even more satisfying, exciting and ultimately rewarding ride, each bike delivers greater agility, complimented with class-leading technology innovation. Central to this is the Tiger’s 95PS three cylinder engine, providing the bike with a sophisticated feel. It gets more exciting inside the engine, with raft of changes implemented to reduce mechanical noise and boost the premium feel of the triple engine.

Alongside this, fuel consumption has also been enhanced, with a class leading 270 mile tank range; a range increase of 40 miles compared to the outgoing Tiger 800.

These technical improvements are coupled with brand new bodywork, which gives the bike a more dynamic stance, complimenting the highly defined lines of the tank side panels. Available in high gloss Crystal White, Phantom Black or Caspian Blue, wherever you’re going this year, the Tiger 800 is sure to get you there in style.

Available from authorised Triumph dealers across the UK, pricing for the new Tiger 800 range starts at £8,499.

Suzuki Announce Expansion of Interest Free 50/50 Campaign

Suzuki has announced an expansion to the 50/50 finance campaign currently running on the V-Strom 1000 Adventure machine, with new models added to the offer which will now run until the end of March, 2015.

The offer provides even greater flexibility with customers able to pay half the cost of the bike upfront and pay the other half in two years’ time or, if they prefer, pay the remaining 50% in monthly repayments over 24 months. Both options are available interest free.

From 1 February, both the V-Strom 650 and XT version will join the V-Strom 1000 Adventure as part of the offer, along with the Hayabusa and Hayabusa Z, GSR750 and the GSR750Z model, GSX1250FA, and Burgman 650 Executive.

Suzuki GB National Sales Manager, Jonathan Martin, said, “This offer has proven popular on the V-Strom 1000 and we’re delighted to extend it to a number of other models in the range. It means you can effectively ride one away without parting with any cash if you have a trade-in worth half of the agreed sale price. Customers can then defer the final payment for two years, meaning no monthly repayments, or they can clear the balance over 24 months. Either option is interest free.”

The offer runs from 1 February to 31 March, 2015. For more information or to find your nearest Suzuki dealer, visit www.suzuki-gb.co.uk.

Yamaha Introduce BS Batteries

Yamaha is very pleased to announce that it has added the cost effective range of BS Batteries to its Genuine Yamaha Parts line-up and they are now available through its Authorised dealer network for all Yamaha models.

The winter period is typically a time when a lot of Yamaha owners have put their motorcycle into hibernation until spring when the weather improves. However, whilst this may avoid the inevitable impact of the seasonal conditions on external parts of a motorcycle, one component that can often be over-looked but will degrade over time if not suitably maintained is the battery.

Whilst many owners will make use of a ‘trickle charger’ to look after their Yamaha’s battery health, for some owners, this is not practical and a battery will eventually need replacing. In this instance, an expired motorcycle battery can be very inconvenient, as well as requiring an untimely expense to replace it.

You get what you pay for when it comes to replacement parts, but in the case of BS Batteries, you get a whole lot more for your money. With the introduction of the economy line-up of BS Batteries to its Genuine Yamaha Parts range, the new products not only complement the premium OEM-fitment Yuasa products, but they also allow Yamaha to cater for its customers who have a much broader range of budgets and requirements, without sacrificing quality.

Key benefits for the new BS Batteries range include:

  • Prefilled and factory activated – fit and go
  • No acid handling for safety
  • Extended service life with a higher lifecycle
  • Maintenance-free
  • High specification and quality engineering developed through OEM supply
  • Very competitive prices

With prices starting from as little as £14.69 inc. VAT, the new BS Battery range provides high quality engineering and specification at an affordable price point.

What’s more, Yamaha also offers a range of maintenance products including the YEC-8 and YEC-40 battery chargers. Featuring special charge/discharge functions to maintain battery health and in some cases, functions to recover weak batteries. There is also a collection of accessories available to make it even easier to monitor your batteries condition, such as the ‘Comfort-indicator’ plug, that gives a clear indication of the status of your battery via a series of LED indicator lights, as well as a charging port.

For more details on BS Batteries and Yamaha battery chargers, please contact your nearest Authorised Yamaha dealer or use the Yamaha dealer locator at www.yamaha-motor.co.uk

Control your climate with new Outlast clothing from Weise

The new range-topping, four-season Outlast® Baltimore jacket from Weise incorporates a removable quilted liner made with climate control technology for comfort in all conditions.

Originally developed for NASA, Outlast® is a unique material that absorbs, stores and releases heat, actively regulating the body’s micro-climate. As the body warms up, the heat is absorbed, keeping the wearer cool; as the wearer begins to cool down the heat is then released, to keep the body warm. This active control reduces temperature swings (the heat-up/chill down cycle) often experienced when riding in varying temperatures and conditions. And unlike many other technical fabrics found in motorcycle clothing, which manage moisture by wicking perspiration away from the skin, Outlast® works to prevent perspiration before it begins, keeping the wearer dry and reducing the risk of feeling cold due to evaporation.

The Baltimore jacket has a tough 500 Denier outer shell with full venting and 5-point CE protection (shoulders, elbows and back). Inside is a removable REISSA® waterproof and breathable drop lining and, for added safety in low light conditions, there are retractable neon covers incorporated into the sleeves.

Available in sizes S-5XL in Black or Black/Stone, the Outlast® Baltimore from Weise retails for £319.99 including VAT.

Riders can pair the Outlast® Baltimore with the new Outlast® Strada or Outlast® Diablo gloves, for complete climate control. Both are a mix of leather and textile, with Hipora breathable waterproof membranes and TPU armour over the knuckles. The Outlast® Strada sells for £89.99 and the Outlast® Diablo £99.99, in sizes S – 3XL.

All Weise products are covered by a no-quibble two-year warranty. For full specifications of the above and details on the complete range of Weise motorcycle clothing and accessories, call the Key Collection on 0117 971 9200 or visit www.thekeycollection.co.uk.

Pirelli DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP is the original equipment for the Ducati 1299 Panigale

Pirelli DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP is the original equipment for the Ducati 1299 Panigale, 1299 Panigale S and Panigale R

Pirelli DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP have proven themselves once more to be the new reference point in the racing tyre segment for street use and the first choice for the ultra high performance bikes recently introduced to the market by the most prestigious motorcycle manufacturers. In fact, the brand new Ducati 1299 Panigale, 1299 Panigale S and Panigale R will come with these hypersport tyres as original equipment in 120/70 ZR17 on the front and 200/55 ZR17 on the rear.

DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP is a concentration of technology which draws from Pirelli’s racing experience and heritage as sole supplier of the World Superbike Championship since 2004. Continuing the philosophy of transferring sport technology to high performance street legal products. This street tyre, designed for professional riders and for bikers who have a sporting road riding style but also ride trackdays, provides racing performance typical of track-only products, allowing the user to have one ultra high performance product that can be used on the street or the track without compromises. Compared to the compound version SC which is for track use, the DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP offers a bi-compound rear tyre in order to better adapt to street use, as well as more regular wear which favours mileage.

DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP has a profile on the rear which, compared to the 190/55 version, is 2mm wider and has a 4mm larger diameter, for greater support during braking, give better feedback and hold a more precise line. The rear tyre has been designed and developed to increase the contact area and have more grip while leaning through a corner. The harmony of the front and rear profiles therefore ensures greater handling and agility.

The rear 200/55 size of the DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP implements a bi-compound solution in order to permit both increased mileage and more grip while leaning. EPT (Enhanced Patch Technology) has also made it possible to use 23% more soft compound in the shoulder area (compared to the previous Diablo Supercorsa SP version). This  accounts for the 33% of new pattern extension on each side, guaranteeing better grip in mid to full lean. Finally, new polymers used for the SP compound helps achieve an earlier warm-up and improved grip in all conditions.

The performance of the compounds is further enhanced by an aggressive single element tread pattern, which revolves six times on the tyre surface. The result is that the “naked” area of the slick shoulders is 24% wider compared to the previous Diablo Supercorsa, increasing contact area and grip. The long longitudinal grooves, expanding from the central area to the shoulder, improve wear regularity especially under severe usage and helps water drainage.

The solutions adopted for the compound (soft compound area 23% larger) and the tread (greater extension of the slick area on the shoulders) guarantee a significant increase in grip and traction, allowing the motorcycle to maintain a higher speed whilst leaning. This made it necessary to use a structure, derived directly from the ones used in competition and be able to provide greater resistance to deformation. This is why the DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP rear tyre has a carcass made from an innovative high module fibre, patented by Pirelli and developed in WSBK, with a considerably lower deformation ratio than the fibre normally used in street tyres. The result is a carcass which is more rigid, both at the centre and in the shoulder area. This provides greater resistance to the stress created by aggressive cornering or when accelerating early out of a turn with the bike still in a leaning position.

The DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP lets you personalise your tyre with special rubber labels that can be applied to the front and rear sidewalls. Each rider can create a completely customized label on the Pirelli web site and have them delivered directly to their door.

More information regarding Pirelli’s entire range of racing and road tyres can be found at www.pirelli.co.uk/moto

The Ducati Scrambler goes Special at Motor Bike Expo

From 23 to 25 January, Ducati Scrambler will have a surprise in store for the public at the Verona Motor Bike Expo: a world exclusive presentation of the first three Ducati Scrambler specials. These first creations are just a starting point for further joint projects in the future, the aim being to highlight the Ducati Scrambler’s versatility and infinite customisation potential. Right from the day of its unveiling, 30 September 2014 at Intermot in Cologne, the Ducati Scrambler was all over the internet and within just a few hours we’d received numerous customisation proposals from enthusiasts all over the world. The bikes on display at the Motor Bike Expo are the first completed customisations.

Ducati Scrambler is a universe characterised by freedom of expression, sharing and passion. That’s one more reason for entrusting the first three Ducati Scrambler customisations to three Italian excellences in this particular field. Three friends of the Ducati Scrambler team, three craftsmen specialised in hand-crafted work who personalise iconic motorcycles throughout the world.

The three customisers were given a clear brief: each one of them was free to interpret one of the three versions of the Ducati Scrambler according to their own personal style. Deus Ex Machina from Milan put forward their idea for the Full Throttle; Officine Mermaid from Milan interpreted the Urban Enduro in their own special way, while Mr. Martini from Verona created their very own Classic. So, three original bikes, conscientiously prepared down to the very last detail, have been produced, underlining the superlative standards of Italian workmanship in the specials field and the vast potential this bike has for customisation.

Filippo Bassoli – MD of Deus Italy: “We’d been waiting for the Ducati Scrambler for some time: in 2010 we did some drift riding with bikes on the Harold Park horse-race track in Sydney together with our friends from Ducati and back then we promised that a Deus creation would be made by developing one of their models. And today we’ve maintained that promise thanks to the Ducati Scrambler: we finally found a bike made with evident vintage inspiration but with the DNA and technical features of a real motorcycle. These characteristics allowed Emanuele and Peter to follow their instincts, particularly after getting their hands on the bike and dismantling it to reveal a fantastic frame. Our project started from there, the result of free and innovative ideas where the main focus is on the aluminium bodywork, with a single-piece tail, number-plate support and a headlight inspired by speedway bikes. An asymmetric mudguard completes the project, together with lots of little details such as the positioning of the conic filter within the frame, the disc brake and, of course, the dedicated exhaust. The name however comes from Carby, creative director of Deus Australia, who was in Milan at the time; he saw the project when it was almost complete and fell in love with it, naming it Hondo Grattan, after the horse that won everything on the Harold Park race-track. Who knows, in the not-too-distant future, perhaps our bike will end up on that track too.”

Nicola Martini – Customiser at Mr. Martini: “I decided to take part in the project because I was fascinated by the idea of working with this Italian brand and in particular by the opportunity of working with the young, dynamic and easygoing Scrambler team. Thanks to the bike’s versatility, I decided to revolutionise the basic concept, from Ducati Scrambler to Café Racer. The style is reminiscent of American rather than British design, owing partly to the fact that the roots of the original Ducati Scrambler project date from the seventies. Although the style is that of a Café Racer, this bike has a combination of elements that make it unique; In fact, details such as the high exhaust and knobby tyres retain a decidedly Ducati Scrambler flavour. This fusion gave our bike its name: S.C.R. – Scrambler Café Racer. We’ve changed the nose fairing, the tail-piece, the whole of the exhaust, the foot-peg and handlebar mountings and the rear suspension unit and have, of course, given the bike a new colour. The Scrambler Café Racer is in ‘total black’ including the saddle, undertail and timing belt covers.”

Dario Mastroianni – Customiser at Officine Mermaid: “We decided to customise the Ducati Scrambler because we immediately earmarked it as a uniquely convertible Italian bike. We’ve infused it with our unmistakeable Officine Mermaid style, with a kind of rough-and-ready look that’s spartan and basic. We named it using the English word Scratch, to convey the idea of it being scraped or damaged. This can be seen straight away from the fuel tank, which we stripped of paint and treated by hand – a procedure we use only on our most exclusive bikes. The metal mudguards have been left rough (a bit like us) and then hand-brushed at the workshop. We’ve left only what is essential on the bike – anything that wasn’t necessary has been eliminated. Even the exhaust, for example, while derived from the original, has been reduced to a minimum. For the front we’ve chosen a traditional stanchion fork with a wide 21” wheel and an 18” wheel at the back, while the saddle and handlebars are made of vintage green leather with a decidedly Western style. Our Scratch has a main rally-style headlight and a smaller lateral spotlight.”

The world of Ducati Scrambler customisation is accessible to all thanks to a huge range of accessories that can be used to make the bike both original and highly personal. No less than six different versions will be at the Ducati Scrambler stand at the Verona Motor Bike Expo, each with unmistakable Ducati Performance ‘ingredients’: but the potential goes much further. For example chrome-plated fuel tank side-panels are available in black, matt, camouflage and even in carbon fibre. There are various options for the front mudguard and the high number-plate support, tank bags, canvas and waterproof bags, low and high slip-on Termignoni exhausts, headlight rims and mesh covers, dashboard rims, vintage handlebars and mirrors as well as spoked wheels, four versions of saddle and low-slung tapered handlebars.

The Ducati Scrambler Icon, available in yellow and red, is joined by three other versions – Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic – which interpret the spirit of the Ducati Scrambler in different stylistic and functional ways. The Urban Enduro, with its Wild Green colour scheme is aimed at those who love the enduro style and are ready to switch from road to off-road in an instant; the Full Throttle is for the rider who’s fascinated by the flat track racing world and has a penchant for pushing things to the limit while the Classic is for those who love the details and style of the ’70s but don’t want to forgo the riding pleasure and comfort of a contemporary bike.

Revised 2015 Dates For Motorcycle Live

The organisers of Motorcycle Live, the UK’s biggest motorcycle show, have announced that the 2015 event will take place one week later than originally planned, opening at its usual venue of The NEC, Birmingham on Saturday 28 November and closing on Sunday 6 December.

The decision comes following confirmation that the EICMA exhibition in Milan has moved from its usual early-November slot to later in the month, thus clashing with the planned dates for Motorcycle Live. EICMA is traditionally where the world’s leading motorcycle manufacturers unveil their new model launches, many of which are then shipped to Birmingham to make their UK debut, meaning that visitors to Motorcycle Live are amongst the first in the world to see the new machinery in the metal.

“If we had maintained our traditional slot of the last two weeks of November, it would have been logistically impossible for manufacturers to ship their new models to The NEC in time for the opening day of the show,” explains Motorcycle Live organiser Finlay McAllan. “This would ultimately mean that UK motorcycle fans would miss out on the opportunity to see the new models so soon after launch. For that reason we have decided to move Motorcycle Live 2015 back one week.”

Motorcycle Live 2015 will take place at The NEC, Birmingham from 28 November to 6 December. Tickets will go on sale in August 2015

New Knox HC Tech back protector is lightest yet

British impact protection specialists Knox have developed a fully CE-approved Original Equipment back protector that is lighter than a First Class letter and the lightest on the market today!

Designed to be fitted into motorcycle jackets and weighing just 86 grams [in small size] the new HC Tech is well below the 100 gram limit for a first class letter, adding minimal weight to heavy and cumbersome motorcycle jackets. Not only is it exceptionally light, the HC Tech is only 19 mm thick, with a smooth covering and specially designed edging so that it is comfortable and barely noticeable when fitted. And its curved inner structure delivers greater flexibility too.

The reduced weight doesn’t compromise protection; the HC Tech exceeds the levels required for the new CE EN1621–2:2014 standard, thanks to a three-layer construction with a unique honeycomb core.

The HC Tech is also tested at -20 C and + 40 C to ensure that levels of protection are provided at extreme temperatures. All Knox protectors are designed, developed and tested in their UK factory, then submitted for additional testing with fully approved laboratories for complete peace of mind.

Knox have supplied over 12.7 million pieces of Original Equipment armour to some of the world’s most trusted motorcycle brands, including Triumph, ReVit, Indian, Victory and RS Taichi, who choose Knox Armour for its balance of protection, weight and comfort.

The Knox HC Tech is produced in three sizes, to suit both men’s and ladies’ riding jackets, and is available as Original Equipment in Knox partners’ ranges. Riders wishing to upgrade the protector in their current motorcycle jacket, can also buy the HC Tech direct from Knox for £19.99 including VAT.

For information on the complete Knox OE Armour range, call 01900 825825 or visit: www.planet-knox.com.

Notes: Planet Knox Ltd launched the 1st commercially available back protector under the Pro-Tek brand in 1981. This was followed by the award winning Pro-Tek Elite suit in 1988, the first motorcycle jacket to feature built-in protectors in the elbows, shoulders and back. Knox continued to innovate and launched the worlds first CE-approved body armour in 1995

A record year for Ducati UK and its dealers in 2014

Ducati Motor Holdings recently announced record sales for 2014 with Ducati UK and its dealer network contributing significantly to this overall result.

For Ducati UK it was a record breaking year in many ways. The UK subsidiary achieved 2742 registrations – a 17% increase on the previous year with a small increase in market share. This result was accomplished with consistently high sales throughout the year registering ten year highs in every quarter with March being Ducati UK’s biggest single sales month on record.

These results could not have been achieved without a strong dealer network that provided the highest number of net dealer registrations. Amongst the 32 strong dealer network there was also the highest ever proportion achieving more than 100 units.

These exceptional results by Ducati UK and its dealer network were achieved with an incredible model line-up that included the award winning 899 Panigale. The 899 was the best-selling model in the range and narrowly missed out on being the best-selling supersports bike over 500cc in 2014. UK sales were also buoyed by the introduction of new models such as the Diavel, Monster 821 and Monster 1200 whilst maintaining healthy sales of the Multistrada and the bigger capacity 1199 Panigale.

2014 also saw a significant increase in the number of Ducati models sold on finance as Ducati UK continued to offer affordability through the Ducati TriOptions scheme. Thanks to the brand’s high residual values, Ducati was able to offer low monthly payments across the range and this continues into 2015 with the Scrambler available at £95 per month and the top-selling 899 Panigale at £149 per month.

Tim Maccabee was delighted with the UK performance in 2014 and commented:

“The Motorcycle Market has been tough over the last few years but at Ducati UK we’ve been steadily improving our market position. I think customers appreciate the advances we’ve made, not only in product technology and desirability but also in the associated services such as finance packages and extended service intervals. Our dealer network are also going from strength to strength and join us in looking forward to an even stronger 2015 with the introduction of the new Ducati Scrambler and all new Multistrada and 1299 Panigale which are packed with state-of-the-art technology and features.”
