New Panigale V4 has been presented, even more powerful and improved in every aspect

In the fifth episode of the Ducati World Première 2022, the Borgo Panigale-based motorcycle manufacturer revealed the Panigale V4 2022 to all the fans and motorcycling enthusiasts in the world:

The Panigale V4 2022 represents the last step in the characteristic path of the Borgo Panigale sports bikes and it takes life from Ducati Corse long-time experience married to continuous knowledge and technology sharing from the world of racing directly to production bikes. This new project expresses the uniqueness of a brand capable of winning the MotoGP constructors’ championship for the second consecutive time, which works to ensure that every single element designed for competitions can then be transferred on motorcycles built for enthusiasts. That’s the reason why the Panigale V4 is constantly refreshed and improved, just as it happens in MotoGP and WorldSBK.

With the 2022 version, the Panigale V4 project completes the most significant evolution since its birth . The improvements involve all areas: aerodynamics, ergonomics, engine, chassis and electronics. The result is an even faster bike on the racetrack and at the same time more intuitive and less tiring for a wide range of riders. In short, it offers great and rewarding excitement to pro-rider and amateur alike.

These exclusive features have been confirmed through a special testing on the Vallelunga racing track, in Italy. The Panigale V4 S 2021 and the 2022 version both equipped with Pirelli SC1 tyres gained centre-stage, ridden by two testers joined by the pro-rider Michele Pirro (Ducati Official Tester). At the end of the day, it turned out that the first tester improved his best lap on the new Panigale V4 S 2022 by 0.9 seconds, the second by 1.2 seconds, while Michele Pirro was faster by half a second, lapping just three seconds from his best time in Race 1 at Vallelunga, on the occasion of this year’s Italian Superbike Championship, where, however, he raced counting on the most performing SCX compound.

The first new feature of the new Panigale V4 2022 version has to do with aerodynamics. Ducati engineers concentrate in fact their hard work on the fairing, which now integrates more compact and thinner double-profile design wings  with increased efficiency: this update guarantees the same vertical load, up to 37 kg at 300 km/h. Furthermore, the lower part of the fairing features redesigned extraction sockets to improve the cooling system and, as a consequence, the performance of the engine, in particular during racetrack days.

Ergonomics has also been a core focus of in-depth development with the aim of improving the control of the bike during track sessions and to allow the rider to get the most out of the Panigale V4’s performance, both on a single lap and heavy use on the track.
The seat can now count on flatter shape and a different coating, to further support the rider when braking and allow easier movement of the body. Compared to the 2021 version, the tank has a new shape in the rear portion to allow the rider to better anchor when braking and allowing him to ride faster and longer. Thanks to this new ergonomics, the rider is also completely integrated into the bike and therefore more comfortable when riding in general; even the contact area of the arms during hanging off, namely when leaning completely outside the curves, has been enhanced.

The heart of the bike is represented by 1,103 cm3 Desmosedici Stradale MotoGP-derived, which has undergone a series of updates. The Desmosedici Stradale completes a further evolution for 2022, thanks to the introduction of some dedicated technical elements that allow an increase of power together with an instant throttle response.

The new engine has been updated in the lubrication circuit and is coupled to a new oil pump that reduces power absorption. The increased diameter of the silencer outlets allows to reduce the exhaust back pressure and, consequently, to increase the engine performance. Thanks to these interventions and a new dedicated mapping, the Desmosedici Stradale – Euro 5-compliant* – delivers 215.5 hp at 13,000 rpm, with a power increase of 1.5 hp compared to the previous version, which rises to 2.5 hp over the peak of maximum power at 14,500 rpm. The engine also delivers a torque of 123.6 Nm (12.6 kgm) at 9,500 rpm, and already from 6,000 rpm it provides 80% of the maximum torque available.

A detail that says a lot about the evolution characterising this new 2022 engine is the adoption of a new gearbox  that provides for a lengthening of the ratio for the first, second and sixth gears. This new SBK gear ratio is therefore more “racing-oriented”, more suitable for use on track. The first gear has been lengthened by 11.6%, while the second by 5.6%. Thanks to this new gearbox, it is now easier to tackle the tightest corners in first gear, enjoying greater engine braking and better acceleration out of corners. Furthermore, the smaller jump in speed between the first two ratios allows the DQS, equipped with new calibration, to work more effectively, offering better performance. Lastly, sixth gear has been lengthened by 1.8% allowing, in combination with the increase in engine power, a top speed of 5 km/h higher than the Panigale V4 2021.

new Power Modes logic  has been implemented on the Panigale V4 2022 which provides for 4 engine configurations: Full, High, Medium, Low. The Full and Low configurations are newly designed while the High and Medium configurations use a new strategy. Power Mode Full is the sportiest ever adopted by a Panigale V4 and allows the engine to express its full potential with torque curves without electronic filters, except for first gear. A new Ride by Wire map management system has been developed for the High and Medium Power Modes; now dedicated to each of the six gears, which guarantees the rider the possibility of always having the optimal thrust when opening the throttle. The Power Mode Low, on the other hand, has been conceived to make road riding even more enjoyable, limiting the maximum power of the bike to 150 hp and offering a particularly manageable throttle response.

The performance of the Desmosedici Stradale can be further improved thanks to the racing exhaust systems contained in the Ducati Performance catalogue. In order to offer everyone the opportunity to ride with a full racing exhaust even on circuits with tighter noise limits, a new exhaust system is available, completely in titanium, developed in collaboration with Akrapovič, which falls within the 105 dB noise limit (102 dB with the dB killer fitted). The new exhaust is equipped with high silencers alongside the tail and ensures a power increase of 12.5 hp, bringing the maximum value to 228 hp, while the maximum torque value rises to 131 Nm, with an overall weight reduction of 5 kg. This new exhaust is added to the more compact full racing version already available in the catalogue, that extends under the engine and is also made entirely from titanium by Akrapovič, which at the same performance levels reduces weight by 6 kg and has a noise level of 109 dB which drops to 107 dB when the dB-killer is installed.

The Desmosedici Stradale is also a structural element of the chassis and directly connected with the aluminum front frame. The chassis is completed by the lightweight front frame made of magnesium and the seat post in cast aluminum.

The new Panigale V4 S is equipped with the new Öhlins NPX 25/30 electronically controlled pressurised fork that uses a pressurized cartridge damping system derived from that of Öhlins racing forks, minimizing the risk of oil cavitation compared to a traditional model. The result is improved braking support and at the same time better absorption of bumps, which translates into a better riding feeling for the rider.
The new fork has 125 mm travel (+5 mm compared to the one that equips the Panigale V4 2021), thanks to which it can not only adopt softer settings improving the smoothness of the response even on rough tarmac, and grip in critical conditions, but it can also offer that racing plus that increases the feeling in the most demanding braking sections.

The new fork works in combination with the Öhlins TTX36 rear shock absorber and the Öhlins steering damper, both with event based control system. This system offers the rider the opportunity to customise the suspension intervention according to different riding situations (braking, cornering, acceleration), as well as changing the operating parameters of the hardware components. For the rider, this means a higher level of control over the dynamics of the bike for the benefit of road safety and lap times on the racetrack.

Furthermore, the pivot of the single-sided aluminum swingarm is positioned 4 mm higher than that of the 2021 bike version. This specific technical choice increases the anti-squat action, namely the reduction of the lowering of the rear, stabilizing the bike in acceleration.

The Panigale V4 S is equipped with 3-spoke forged aluminum alloy wheels and fitted with Pirelli Diablo™ Supercorsa SP tyres (120/70 ZR17 front and 200/60 ZR 17 rear). The braking system is equipped with Brembo Stylema® monobloc calipers at the front with four 30 mm diameter pistons each working on 330 mm diameter discs, ensuring exceptional braking power, while at the rear, a single 245 mm disc with 2-piston caliper.

Even the Panigale V4 standard version features a state-of-the-art chassis, which includes: 43 mm fully-adjustable Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF), Sachs steering damper, Sachs monoshock also fully adjustable and cast aluminum rims with a 5-spoke design.

The Panigale V4 2022 is equipped with latest-generation electronic package based on the use of a 6-axis inertial platform capable of instantly detecting roll, yaw and pitch angles of the motorcycle in space. The electronic package includes controls that manage all the riding phases, whose operating parameters are connected by default to the 4 Riding Modes available (Race A, Race B, Sport, Street).

These parameters can be viewed even more effectively thanks to the improved dashboard, which features a new distribution of the functions of the external lights. But that’s not all, Ducati technicians introduce an additional Info Mode, developed keeping in mind the MotoGP riders suggestions and named “Track Evo”, an option added to the existing Road and Track settings.

In the “Track Evo” screen, the tachometer moves on a horizontal scale positioned in the highest part of the instrument, which is the most visible, and the indication of the gear engaged is in the center of the screen. On the right area there are four sectors of different colours, each dedicated to an electronic control (DTC, DWC, DSC, EBC). These sectors light up individually when the electronics are working on a certain parameter, remaining on for the time necessary for the rider to identify which indicator is activated. This signaling mode facilitates the user’s task in understanding the control that has actually worked to allow him to intervene more precisely and punctually on the choice of the optimal level and to obtain better performance more quickly. The left sector completes the information with the stopwatch, the number of laps completed and the speed.

To make the gear change indication clearer, a green LED positioned on the left side of the dashboard, has been introduced. This solution makes all even more visible and precise in the feedback.

Even the look of the bike has been revamped, with a further dose of aggressive flavour. The unprecedented graphic design conceived by the Ducati Centro Stile includes the black color for the logos applied to the full red fairings, the double fabric saddle (two-tone on the S version) and, again for the S version, the red tag on the black rims.

The Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S will be available starting at December 2021 in the classic “Ducati Red” colour.

The Panigale V4 can be equipped with the accessories included in the Ducati Performance catalogue. It includes both homologated components and pure racing elements designed for circuit riders. Ducati Performance accessories can be viewed via the online configurator on Ducati.com.

Aside a wide range of accessories, Ducati offers leather suits (with airbag system also available), helmets, boots and gloves, all in the name of the rider’s safety. To be precise, Ducati meets all the biker needs from the sporty riding on the racetrack to the on-road adventures wearing the perfect outfit as an official Ducati rider.

The dynamic video of the new Ducati Panigale V4 2022 with Pecco Bagnaia is available on the Ducati YouTube channel.

NAWA Racer E-Motorbike Dynamic Prototype Revealed

Racer E-Motorbike dynamic prototype revealed, featuring the world’s first ‘hybrid’ battery system.

NAWA Technologies (NAWA), pioneers of revolutionary 3D nano-technology to unleash efficient, green mobility, has revealed the first fully rideable prototype of its NAWA Racer electric motorbike at the world’s biggest two-wheeled show, EICMA 2021 in Milan.

Watch the video: https://bit.ly/NAWA_Racer_prototype

First unveiled in concept form at CES 2020, NAWA has joined forces with expert technical partners to rapidly accelerate development of the revolutionary new machine; a zero-emission motorbike that illustrates how NAWA’s nano-based ultracapacitors, called NAWACap, can be applied to a real-world electric vehicle (EV) powertrain, by combining them with conventional lithium-ion cells to create a ‘hybrid’ battery system.

Optimising both energy sources, the innovation opens up new possibilities for all e-powertrains, greatly improving efficiency, reducing charging times and extending entire system life. Entirely modular and
scale-able, the system is applicable to any electric vehicle and can reduce the size of the lithium-ion battery by up to half, or extend the range by up to double – or a combination in between.

For the initial design of the concept, NAWA was supported by expert design and engineering services provider Envisage Group – based in Coventry, UK. To develop a dynamic prototype, it has had the support of InnoEnergy, the innovation arm of the European Innovation Institute, assembling an expert consortium of French partners comprised of NAWA itself, AKKA Technologies, Pronergy, FAAR and YSY Group.

Pascal Boulanger, Founder of NAWA, and CTO said: NAWA Racer is our vision for the electricmotorbike of tomorrow – a retro café racer-inspired machine, but one that is thoroughly modern. It is lightweight, fast and fun, perfect for an emission-free city commute that will put a smile on your face. But it also lays down a blueprint for the future.

“NAWA’s next-gen ultracapacitors unleash the potential of the hybrid battery system with five times more power and energy than existing ultracapacitors. What is more, this design of powertrain is fully scale-able: there is no reason why this cannot be applied to a larger motorbike, or car or other electric vehicle. We believe it shows off the e-powertrain of the very near future. Since NAWA Racer’s initial unveil at CES in 2020, development has continued at pace. Thanks to our technical partners, we can now reveal our first dynamic prototype.”

Ultra-efficient e-powertrain

Located in NAWA Racer’s top tank area is an arrangement of NAWACap ultracapacitors, which offer 0.1 kWh and boost a lithium-ion battery mounted low in the chassis, where the internal combustion engine would otherwise be. Re-using more than 80 percent of the energy captured from regenerative braking, NAWA Racer uses a much smaller lithium-ion battery than would otherwise be possible: just 9 kWh, around half the size of a conventional electric sports bike’s battery. What’s more the two batteries combine to form a structural part of the bike’s carbon fibre frame, and with composite body panels and the NAWACap pack itself being extremely lightweight, NAWA Racer tips the scales at just 150kg, a weight saving of 25 percent over conventional electric sports bikes.

Exceptional range and acceleration
Thanks to its lithium-ion battery, NAWA Racer can cover 150km on a mixed cycle. But by capturing so much energy from stop-start riding, releasing it again as acceleration, NAWA Racer can double its urban range to 300km. The NAWACap pack recharges in just two minutes and the entire battery can be charged to 80 percent in one hour from a home supply. As standard, the in-wheel motor produces 100PS, rocketing NAWA Racer from rest to 100km/h in less than three seconds, onto a top speed of 150km/h. And no matter the charge level of the lithium-ion battery, this acceleration will always be available because of the ultracapacitor’s high power characteristics, which continually maintain response and performance.

With three driving modes (Eco, Urban, Sport) and a fully programmable bespoke driving mode, not to mention the option to easily upgrade the NAWACap batteries, along with an app that connects the rider to the bike 24hrs a day, there are many ways to configure NAWA Racer.

Future café racer style

Intended to turn heads as well as offer a ground-breaking electric powertrain, NAWA Racer brings a modern twist to its retro looks with simple, smooth lightweight composite panels and rear arm, painted aluminium, copper and black, based on a strong, stiff but light carbonfibre frame. Details such as LED lighting for the headlight and taillight, anodised matte black suspension forks, nubuck leather saddle in vintage complete the striking look. NAWA Racer will also focus on customisation with multiple ways to tailor and futureproof its striking design.

While NAWA has no plans to make or sell a production version of the NAWARacer, it is open to approaches from appropriate partners interested in taking this revolutionary e-motorbike to the streets.

Benelli Leoncino 800 Trail

An off-road soul, pure Leoncino style. Benelli introduces Leoncino 800 Trail, a motorcycle with a distinct off-road spirit, brought out by the double exhaust in a raised position and the 19” front wheel. This model extends the range of the Pesaro-based manufacturer and is designed to bring out the authenticity of the Leoncino line concept. This “modern-classic” two-wheeler is sporty and dynamic, an all-round evolution that shares state-of-the-art technical and style features with its road sister, the 800.

The 754-cc twin-cylinder, four-stroke engine is liquid cooled and now is Euro 5 approved. It unleashes 76,2 HP (56 kW) at 8500 rpm and a torque of 67 Nm (6.8 kgm) at 6500 rpm, in order to ensure pure fun and performance off-road. It features double overhead camshaft timing with 4 valves per cylinder and the double throttle body of 43 mm diameter. The wet anti-slip clutch and 6-speed gearbox are also worth mentioning.

The chassis was revised in order to better tackle off-road terrains, where uneven surfaces are the currency. The frame is a tubular trellis with steel plates, the same as the road version, which ensures easy and nimble handling on the road. In turn, the suspensions have been upgraded: the Marzocchi up-side down front fork with 50 diameter legs, with adjustable rebound, compression and pre-load, has longer travel, from 140 mm in the road model to 148 mm in the Trail one. The same upgrade took place on the rear, with a single, central swinging arm with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping, whose travel was also increased (140 mm). As consequence, the seat was raised from 805 mm in the road model to 834 mm in the Trail one.

The knobby tires, 120/70 19” in the front and 170/60 17” in the rear, complete the set of technical upgrades. The Brembo braking system, the same as Leoncino 800, is exceptionally safe thanks to the double 320 mm diameter semi-floating disc on the front and four-piston radialmount mono-block calliper, and a 260 mm diameter disc on the back with a doublepiston calliper.

Leoncino 800 Trail stands out for ambitious and sophisticated style elements in a perfect off-road fashion, such as the high headlight fairing located right above the full-led front light, featuring the well-known Leoncino series arc. The new double exhaust in higher position defined the bike silhouette and gives it a rally spirit. The exhaust was developed specifically for the Trail version, as well as the number plate holder and the heat shield on the side, which also bring out the off-road inclination of this model. The muscle, carved-out lines of the steel tank are in common with Leoncino 800; designed to bring out the power and dynamic appeal of this motorcycle, it features the distinctive arc, this time matched with two bumpers on the tank guard. Moreover, the Trail version features latest-technology TFT instruments on a dashboard that stands out for its modern and authentic design. The seat is envisioned to always ensure great comfort even on the toughest terrains. Underneath the seat, consistently with Leoncino 800, there is an aluminium panel thought to display the Leoncino logo. On the mudguard, the unmistakable symbol of the range: a Lion.

As for the road version, to expand the offer and ensure greater choice for users who want to have this two-wheeler, for some markets Benelli has decided to add to this model also a new version equipped with suspension system and braking system designed by Benelli, while maintaining style, functionality and performance unchanged.

Leoncino 800 Trail will be available in all Benelli dealerships starting from spring 2022, in grey, brown and green colors. The price of both proposals has not yet been defined.

For some European markets, the 35 kW version is also available.

Benelli Leoncino 800

The unmistakable DNA that distinguishes the modern-classic of the Pesaro company finds its most concrete evolution in the new Leoncino 800.

A two-wheeler with an authentic style, characterized by essentiality and a balanced mix of classic and modern styles, which finds its maximum expression thanks to the new 754cc beating heart, the most advanced in the Benelli range. In Leoncino 800 the shapes become harder and more sculpted, thus enhancing its power and dynamism: in the pure elegance of its lines and in the modernity of its style, this two-wheeler is able to express all its essence and uniqueness, while maintaining what are the elements iconic pieces of the Leoncino range. In fact, even in the 800cc version we find the stylistic element of the arch, which is faithful to both the headlight and the tank, keeping the family feeling unchanged.

The beating heart of Leoncino 800 is the 754cc, liquid cooled, four-stroke, twin cylinder engine; dependable and reactive, now Euro5 approved. It delivers well on the throttle with a power of 76.2 HP (56 kW) at 8500 rpm and a torque of 67 Nm (6.8 kgm) at 6500 rpm. Finally, the double overhead camshaft timing with 4 valves per cylinder, as well as the double throttle body of 43 mm diameter, wet anti-slip clutch and 6-speed gearbox, complete the picture for a safe and state-of-the-art engine transmission assembly.

The frame is a brand new tubular trellis with steel plates, which matches perfectly with the design while ensuring easy and nimble handling on the road regardless of the rider’s skills, without any prejudice to an absolutely fun experience. The care for details and genuine materials are the hallmarks of Leoncino 800. The angled and modern-looking tank is made of steel and spots the Benelli logo, as tradition commands. The Leoncino logo appears under the seat on a sleek aluminium side panel, which flows dynamically from the tank creating a simple, yet sophisticated style element. The headlight, which recall the modern lines of that of Leoncino 250, is full LED with an authentic and sophisticated design, brought out by the arc and Benelli Leoncino logo at the centre. This version features latest-technology TFT instruments on a dashboard that stands out for its modern and authentic design. The seat ensures the utmost comfort for the rider and the passenger alike; moreover, it perfectly matches the overall lines of the bike, much like the modern and balanced exhaust design. The Lion has a special place standing proudly of the front mudguard, like on our historic motorcycles and the rest of the Leoncino range.

The suspensions consist in a front upside-down Marzocchi fork with 50 mm diameter legs, adjustable in rebound, compression and preload, a guarantee of comfort, stability and effectiveness throughout the entire 140 mm travel of the front suspension. On the back there is a swinging arm with central adjustable monoshock in the spring preload and rebound damping. The Brembo braking system is exceptionally safe thanks to the double 320 mm diameter semi-floating disc on the front and four-piston radial-mount mono-block calliper, and a 260 mm diameter disc on the back with a double-piston calliper. The 17” aluminium alloy tubeless spoked rims mount 120/70-17 and 180/55-17 tyres. The tank has a remarkable 15-l capacity and brings out the muscular nature of this bike.

To expand the offer and ensure greater choice for users who want to have this two-wheeler, for some markets Benelli has decided to add to this model also a new version equipped with suspension system and braking system designed by Benelli, while maintaining style, functionality and performance unchanged.

Leoncino 800 will be available in all Benelli dealerships starting from spring 2022, in grey, brown and green colors. The price of both proposals has not yet been defined.

For some European markets, the 35 kW version is also available.

Benelli Leoncino 125

Pure style and fun, concentrated in an easy, accessible and extremely contemporary motorcycle.

This is the concept behind the new Leoncino 125, a motorbike that was created to meet the needs of the latest generations of motorcyclists and fulfil their desire for freedom and independence. A bike that expands the current Benelli Leoncino range and stays faithful to the family’s feeling, able to bring out both its heritage and contemporary character. Leoncino 125 is also a bike designed for those who are new to the motorcycling world, guaranteeing maximum ease of handling and agility on the road and offering an exciting ride from the start, all without extremely low operating costs.

The beating heart of the Leoncino 125 is the new single-cylinder four-stroke liquid cooled 125cc engine, a first for the quarter-litre models currently in the range. The timing features single overhead camshaft with 4 valves per cylinder, electronic injection with 28 mm diameter throttle body, wet clutch and 6-speed gearbox. This new engine has a power output of 12.8 hp (9.4 kW) at 9500 rpm and 10 Nm (1.0 kgm) at 8500 rpm. One of the bike’s strengths is certainly its low consumption of 2.2 litres per 100 km.

Developed for maximum agility and handling on the road, the Leoncino 125 has an excellent chassis. The frame is a traditional steel trellis frame designed to integrate perfectly with the bike’s #design, sharing the style and character of the quarter-litre of the Leoncino range. The tank features a mix of classic and modern lines and balanced surfaces capable of giving the bike a unique, unmistakable look. The all LED headlight is high end, with an elegant, sophisticated #design.

The instrument panel is digital and clearly visible in all conditions. Like the rest of the Leoncino range, the stylised lion proudly stands out on the front mudguard, recalling the history of this model.

The suspensions of the Leoncino 125 consist of an upside-down fork on the front with 35 mm diameter legs, while the back end has a swinging arm with central monoshock and travel of 53 mm. As for the braking system, on the front there is a single 280 mm diameter floating disc with three-piston calliper, and on the back a 220 mm diameter disc with two-piston floating calliper. CBS present. The 17″ aluminium alloy rims mount 110/80-R17 and 130/70-R17 tyres respectively, ensuring maximum road safety.

Leoncino 125 will be available at all #benelli dealers starting from spring 2022 in grey and green.

Aprilia RS 660 Limited Edition

A year after its launch on the market, Aprilia RS 660 is already celebrating its first important sports milestone.

The medium-sized Italian sport bike made this achievement in the United States, dominating the 2021 edition of the Twins Cup, the prestigious American championship dedicated to medium engine capacity twin-cylinders within MotoAmerica, the premier motorcycle racing series in the States.

In celebration of this victory, at EICMA 2021, Aprilia introduces a numbered special edition of 1500 units of RS 660, characterised by a brand new stars and stripes livery inspired by the American flag. A colour scheme closely derived from the special graphics on the bike that the Twins Cup champion, Kaleb De Keyrel, rode in the race at Vallelunga for the final round of the Aprilia RS 660 Trophy, where Kaleb had been invited to participate as a reward for his important victory on American soil.

Aprilia RS 660 Limited Edition also boasts a standard equipment package that includes some of the racing content from the competition version that proved to be unparalleled in the Twins Cup, taking 10 wins out of the 13 races held.
The sporty personality of Aprilia RS 660 Limited Edition is highlighted by the single-seat tail-fairing cover, which eliminates the passenger seat, enhancing the sleek design of the rear. The passenger’s seat comes with the bike, which is still approved for two-up riding.
The oversized top fairing ensures greater protection for the rider against the wind, both on the road and on the track, and it also has the software that lets you set up the quick shift gearbox in upside-down configuration. This means that, depending on your needs, you can configure the gearbox entirely on your own, without replacing any parts on the bike, in street or upside-down version – ideal for the occasional track day.

A badge located on the fuel tank bears the progressive number of the bike and indicates the limited edition of 1500 units.

Aprilia RS 660’s winning streak in MotoAmerica
Just a few months after making its début in the U.S.A. on an American track that is one of the most iconic in the world, the Big Sur circuit in California – ridden by Pikes Peak record holder astride an Aprilia Tuono V4, Rennie Scaysbrook – Aprilia RS 660 was the immediate protagonist of a thrilling sports story. Approved just in time for the beginning of the 2021 Twins Cup, the Italian twin-cylinder took the top three spots straight away in the opening race on the Road Atlanta circuit. It was a blinding start, and in some ways unexpected, followed by a winning streak: 10 total wins out of 13 races held, plus another 16 podiums (9 second places and 7 third places) and 6 pole positions. That first, extraordinary one-two-three was followed by others, on the historic Laguna Seca circuit and in both of the races held in New Jersey.

Five of the 10 total wins were achieved by Kaleb De Keyrel, crowned Twins Cup 2021 champion astride his Aprilia RS 660 prepared by the Robem Engineering team. The other victories were credited to Jody Barry, Cory Ventura, Anthony Mazziotto (two wins) and Tommaso Marcon. The Aprilia RS 660 therefore confirmed its status as a versatile bike, able to win on extremely different circuits and with riders who have different riding styles.

Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory

The Factory versions of Aprilia sports bikes have always been flagship products, dedicated to the most demanding and skilled riders, who can appreciate the quality of the most sophisticated outfitting.

And now, the Factory trim is also available for the Tuono 660, which makes for a Tuono with unparalleled dynamic qualities, the most efficient and fun to use on the road and a true generator of emotions, accessible to everyone. All this, while respecting the Aprilia 660 project that promises bikes with a sensational weight/power ratio that are lightweight, high-performance, and built around the brand-new latest generation Aprilia parallel twin.

With respect to Tuono 660, already widely recognised and appreciated by the public and critics for its outstanding chassis qualities, Tuono 660 Factory boasts more sophisticated suspension, better suited to sports riding. The Kayaba fork with 41 mm stanchions is fully adjustable in its compression and rebound damping and spring pre-load, while the Sachs shock with separate reservoir is also adjustable in its compression and rebound damping and spring pre-load.

There is an even better weight/power ratio, one of the main goals for all new Aprilia 660 models and already outstanding on the Tuono 660, thanks to the adoption of a light lithium battery that contributes to reducing the overall weight by roughly 2 kg (the kerb weight is now 181 kg) and also better engine performance.

A compact and lightweight latest-generation engine, the 660 cc forward-facing twin with DOHC timing and four valves per cylinder is the result of experience gained with the very powerful engine that equips RSV4, from which the construction philosophy and basic concepts derive. The engine has a load-bearing function and houses the aluminium swingarm in its rear section. Combustion is asymmetric and offset by 270° to obtain irregular combustion which translates into performance and sound similar to that of a V-twin. The maximum power is upped from 95 HP with the Tuono 660 to 100 HP with the Tuono 660 Factory. The engine boasts even more drive in acceleration, thanks to the use of a shorter final drive, with a 16-tooth pinion gear, one less than Tuono 660. The maximum torque remains unchanged, with 67 Nm at 8500 rpm, 80% of which is available from 4000 rpm, or 90% on reaching 6250 rpm.

Tuono 660 Factory offers a full suite of APRC electronic controls with a Ride-by-Wire electronic accelerator and six-axis inertial platform as standard. The latter, thanks to the accelerometers and gyroscopes it contains, is able to recognise the bike’s condition with respect to the road, recording and processing the inputs that result from riding and sending the data to a control unit that intervenes to optimise the control parameters. The Tuono 660 Factory APRC includes ATC (Aprilia Traction Control), adjustable traction control characterised by high-performance intervention strategies; AWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control), the adjustable wheelie control system; ACC (Aprilia Cruise Control) to maintain a steady speed without using the throttle; AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift), the electronic gearbox that allows for very rapid shifting without closing the throttle or using the clutch. It is also equipped with the downshift function, to allow for clutchless downshifting; AEB (Aprilia Engine Brake), the adjustable system to control engine braking when closing the throttle; AEM (Aprilia Engine Map), with different mappings via which to alter the engine’s character and delivery.

Tuono 660 Factory also benefits from multi-map Cornering ABS. With its extremely contained weight and dimensions, the system is able to optimise braking and ABS intervention through the corners, thanks to a specific algorithm that constantly monitors various parameters such as lateral acceleration, the pressure applied to the front brake lever, and the lean, pitch and yaw angle, modulating the braking action in order to optimise the ratio between deceleration and stability.

As with the Tuono 660, there are five customisable Riding Modes (three for road use and two for track use) to simplify life on-board. The rider needs only to choose the Riding Mode that best interprets his or her riding needs in order to automatically obtain the best settings in terms of traction control, wheelie control, engine brake, ABS and the other managed parameters. Adoption of the inertial platform has also allowed for activation of the “bending lights” function, incorporated into the front LED light cluster complete with perimeter DRL (this pair of additional lights illuminate the entire corner, increasing visibility when leaning).

With its reduced surfaces effectively highlighting a dynamic, sports character, the bike’s design stands out for the innovative double fairing that serves as an aerodynamic appendage. The pressure of the air channelled between the two walls contributes to optimising stability at high speeds and, at the same time, increases rider comfort by protecting against direct air flow, also deflecting the hot air extracted from the engine. The Tuono 660 Factory version is further enhanced with the aggressive and sporty Factory Dark graphics and the presence of the single-seat tail fairing , painted in black and red and supplied as standard together with the passenger seat and footpegs. These pegs, like those of the rider, are the same as those of the Aprilia RS 660.

Aprilia SR GT

Aprilia uses EICMA 2021 as the stage on which to present an innovative product on the compact GT scooter landscape, as it unveils Aprilia SR GT.

Aprilia SR GT is the first “urban adventure” scooter by Aprilia, designed to re-inject the fun into everyday riding in the city, but also over long distances and less travelled paths, thanks to equipment inspired by the enduro world that makes it the ideal companion in every situation.

The Aprilia SR GT expands the Aprilia Urban Mobility range, a line of extremely functional vehicles that trace the evolution of urban mobility and are designed to make everyday trips increasingly safe, simple and exciting, but with that pure Aprilia spirit. The Aprilia Urban Mobility line already includes the eSR1 and eSR2 electric scooters and Aprilia SXR 50, the small-engine urban scooter with content usually reserved for higher-end vehicles.

With the Aprilia SR GT, an active riding position and motorcycle-inspired wide, naked handlebar offer ultimate control, while long-travel suspension and increased ground clearance ensure any obstacle is easily surmounted when riding in the city. And the tyres, with their generous cross-section and “all terrain” tread design, allow the rider to adventure on any surface, from asphalt to cobblestones and white roads.

All of this is combined with the unmistakeable Aprilia sports design, the latest 125 and 200 cc i-get engines complete with Start & Stop system for top-class performance, and comprehensive equipment that includes full LED lights, LCD instrumentation and the APRILIA MIA connectivity system (optional).

A unique style, with sports lines and a nod to the motorcycle world
The versatility of Aprilia SR GT is immediately clear from its style details, with strong references to the racing character of Aprilia sports bikes, but also the off-road world.

Side-on, Aprilia SR GT is compact, with reduced overhang and taut, dynamic lines that emphasise its sports nature. As well as housing the tank, the central tunnel serves to connect the front and rear, giving SR GT the appearance of a motorcycle. Added to this is the licence plate, which is positioned on the rear wheel to leave a slimmer tail section. Perfectly integrated into the design, the passenger grab handles and full LED rear light cluster complete with turn signals also make an impression.

With the focus firmly on fun, the Aprilia SR GT riding position is less rearward and more “active” with respect to a traditional compact GT scooter. But the rider can adopt a different position, with their feet further forward on the footpegs, for a more relaxed riding style that is less tiring over long distances. This is possible thanks to an ergonomic footpeg, the external part of which resembles the shape of the protective plates on off-road bikes.

Standing out at the front is the full LED three-element light cluster, typical of Noale sports bikes, as well as the double fairing that emerges to the sides of the shield, but there is also a clear enduro influence, with the suspended windscreen and wide, naked handlebar that contributes to a sense of total control, particularly when manoeuvring at low speed in city traffic. The handlebar is fixed to the vehicle with a refined die-cast aluminium riser that bears the Aprilia logo, while the ergonomic and intuitive handlebar control sets are clearly motorcycle-derived.

The instrumentation is fully digital, the large LCD display providing all vehicle data, as well as a wide range of travel information, which can be selected with the MODE button on the left-hand control block. If the APRILIA MIA connectivity system (available on request) is present, once a smartphone is connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth, the instrument panel will also display notifications regarding incoming calls and messages. The system also enables call management using the specific connectivity button on the right-hand control block and the use of vocal commands to make calls or play music, by activating a playlist.

Unstoppable in the city and ready for adventure
A joy to ride, Aprilia SR GT is designed to make any trip a thrill. Know-how in the frame field is fully exploited by Aprilia technicians in creating the chassis, a guarantee of precise dynamic behaviour. A double cradle frame in high-strength steel tubing is paired with brand-new long-travel suspension developed specifically for this model.

The front boasts a Showa fork with 33 mm stanchions and 122 mm of travel, 22% more than that of its closest competitor, while the rear features two double-acting Showa shock absorbers with coil spring and five-position adjustable pre-load, and travel equating to 102 mm, which is 7% more than the competition. This particular configuration, combined with specific suspension calibration, boosts control, comfort and safety, especially over uneven surfaces, but without impacting on the riding pleasure.

With its sophisticated chassis, a weight of just 144 kg with a full tank (148 kg for the 200 version) and light alloy rims – 14” at the front and 13” at the rear – with wide cross-section tyres (110/80 and 130/70), Aprilia SR GT offers excellent agility and handling in traffic, but is also stable at more sustained speeds. The braking system uses a 260 mm petal front disc. Lighter and better able to dissipate heat, this makes for better performance, while the rear features a 220 mm disc (petal-shaped on the 200 and 125 Sport versions).

The Aprilia SR GT also stands out for its minimum ground clearance of 175 mm, a never-before-seen value for traditional compact GT scooters. This allows the rider to easily surmount any bumps in the road and descend from any altitude. All these characteristics, together with “all-terrain” tyres with a slightly knobby tread, make Aprilia SR GT extremely flexible and suited to any type of use. Unstoppable in the city, where obstacles such as cobblestones, tram lines, manhole covers, potholes and uneven asphalt are common, SR GT is also ready for exciting journeys, during which the rider can even leave the asphalt and venture onto white roads.

So covering long distances is no problem at all, thanks also to a generous tank, its 9-litre capacity translating into a range of roughly 350 km.

A 25-litre under-seat compartment can accommodate a full-face helmet, while additional accessories ensure the Aprilia SR GT is always ready to travel, one example being the strong and very roomy 33-litre aluminium top case.

Latest generation i-get engines, for top-class performance
Aprilia SR GT also makes a mark on the compact GT scooter segment with its engine power and efficiency. Belonging to the i-get family, this pair of very modern Euro 5-approved units with electronic injection, four valves and liquid cooling are the product of know-how at the Piaggio Group R&D centre for scooter engines, the most important in Europe.

Alongside the 125 cc i-get single-cylinder, accredited with maximum power of 11 kW at 8750 rpm and torque that reaches 12 Nm at 6500 rpm, the Aprilia SR GT 200 introduces the brand-new 174 cc single-cylinder, which boasts 13 kW of power at 8500 rpm and 16.5 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm. Values of absolute reference, which ensure elasticity, rapid pick-up and a smooth ride in all conditions.

Results that are achieved with meticulous work across a large number of components, with the aim of optimising the thermodynamic performance. In particular, the new 200 cc engine adopts an aluminium cylinder with Nikasil coating (a motorcycle-derived solution), a new piston with updated crown geometry, and a new head that contributes to optimising the combustion efficiency.

Better engine performance also calls for more efficient heat extraction, while the CVT transmission complete with larger clutch is revised in order to suit the engine’s new power curve.

All models in the Aprilia SR GT range are equipped with the Start & Stop system known as RISS (Regulator Inverter Start & Stop System). The system does away with the traditional starter, which is replaced with a brushless electrical device installed directly on the crankshaft. There are many advantages, not least a quieter startincreased lightness and reliability, and lower fuel consumption. The Start & Stop system automatically switches off the engine 1 to 5 seconds after the scooter has stopped (depending on whether the engine has reached its correct operating temperature or not). A slight twist of the throttle is enough to instantly re-start the engine, in total silence, as there is no traditional starter.

All of which translates into engines that are extremely frugal in their fuel consumption, with a WMTC cycle distance of 40 km/l for SR GT 125 and 38.5 km/l for SR GT 200.

A gritty Sport version joins the range
As well as a more classic version, Aprilia SR GT also offers a Sport trim, which boasts grittier, more sports-oriented graphics and finishes.

Aprilia SR GT is available in three colours, Aprilia BlackStreet Grey and Infinity Blue, each paired with silvery grey footpegs, sides and passenger grab handles. The wheels are black, the saddle black with grey stitching.

The Sport version comes even closer to the typical liveries of Aprilia sports bikes, offering Street GoldIridium Grey and Red Raceway matte colour schemes, which are combined with red painted wheels and a two-colour black and grey saddle with red stitching. The silvery grey footpegs feature Aprilia lettering, while the central tunnel and sides are matte black, with passenger grab handles to match the vehicle. A large ‘a’ for Aprilia features at the sides of the shield.

Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia D’onore

It was the post WW2 era when the Cuirassiers’ Regiment, the special Carabinieri unit responsible for the honour guard and security of the President of the Italian Republic, chose Moto Guzzi as its first motorcycles.

From that moment on, the guards of the Head of State have always ridden bikes made in Mandello del Lario, creating a historic combination of style, loyalty, and prestige which has become one of the best known and most beloved symbols of “Italianism” in the world.

The Eagle brand manufacturer celebrates this important collaboration, which has lasted uninterrupted for 75 years, presenting the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore at EICMA 2021. This is a special, numbered limited edition of its highly popular classic travel enduro which, precisely in Moto Guzzi’s centennial year, joined the Cuirassiers’ Regiment’s motorcycle fleet. In fact, with a presentation ceremony to President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on 20 May 2021, two Guzzi V85 TT units joined the California 1400 Touring bikes already used by the Cuirassiers.

Just like the V85 TT bikes delivered to the Head of State at the Quirinal Palace, the V85 TT Guardia d’Onore features the typical black livery with white graphics that characterise the Cuirassiers’ Moto Guzzi machines. The white decorations run along the front mudguard, continuing onto the fuel tank and the side panels and they are also picked up on the oversized Touring windscreen. The latter is part of the standard equipment package, along with the centre stand, the engine guard bars and the supplementary LED lights. The pair of side panniers dedicated to this model are available on request.

The Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore will be produced in a limited edition of 1946 units, a number reminiscent of the first 75 years of partnership between the Mandello Eagle and the Cuirassiers’ Regiment, as well as a tribute to the year the Italian Republic was established. To further highlight the exclusive nature of this particular version, the progressive number of the unit is engraved on the handlebar riser, from 1 to 1946.

Everyone who purchases this special version of the V85 TT will also receive a valuable celebratory case which includes a brochure with the history of Moto Guzzi bikes used by the Cuirassiers and the stamp collector’s folder containing the postmarked stamp issued on the occasion of the Moto Guzzi Centennial.

The Cuirassiers and Moto Guzzi: 75 years of history
The long history that binds the Cuirassiers’ Regiment to the Eagle from Mandello has its roots in the second post-war period when modern cars began to be favoured over the outdated royal carriages for institutional travel involving the President of the Italian Republic. Consequently, the escort unit made up of select – and extremely tall – elite Carabinieri needed a means of transportation more suitable than horses to follow the motorised vehicles.

Confirming years of collaboration with the Italian armed forces, the choice fell almost naturally to Moto Guzzi, a true source of national pride, partly because of their countless victories achieved in motorcycle racing since the ’20s.

The need to quickly motorise a unit that had been strictly equestrian until then led the Cuirassiers to adopt 4 different Moto Guzzi models in just over 5 years. And so, the Alce, military bike par excellence, the Superalce, the Astore and its direct evolution, the Falcone Sport joined the regiment’s fleet.

However, it was only from the Astore that the bikes were specially outfitted to adapt to the needs of the Cuirassiers, including those connected to their specific height (in fact, the minimum height requirement to join the regiment was 190 cm).

As the nineteen-sixties approached, it was still the Falcone Sport (with electric starter from 1959) that escorted the President of the Republic and the various foreign Heads of State visiting Italy. In line with the technological evolution in the motorcycle field, the first true change in the Cuirassiers’ motorcycle fleet came in 1968. With the V7 Special units, the single-cylinder was definitively surpassed to embrace the new Moto Guzzi era and the revolutionary transversal V-twin, destined to become the manufacturer’s calling card.

In 1975, one of the most innovative Moto Guzzi models arrived on the market – the V1000 I-Convert. With its increased engine capacity that reached 1000 cc and its unprecedented integrated braking system, the I-Convert went to work straight away escorting the President of the Republic, paving the way for the next 40 years of maxicruisers from Mandello destined for this role.

The mid ’80s marked the start of the long relationship between the Cuirassiers and the various Moto Guzzi California models, increasingly more muscular and with increasing engine capacity. Displacement went from the 948 cc of the California II used in 1985 all the way to the 1380 cc of the segment monarch, the California 1400 Touring, which cut a fine figure in the Cuirassiers’ parades and in presidential transfers from 2007.

In May of this important year, which marks Moto Guzzi’s one-hundredth birthday, the Eagle brand presented the current President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, with V85 TT units which joined his personal escort fleet.

The brand new bikes feature a livery created specifically for the occasion, chromatically reminiscent of the California 1400 units already used.

The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Is Exclusively Unveiled At EICMA

In marking its centenary in 2021, Moto Guzzi does not just celebrate a milestone but rather a starting point, a base on which to construct the future. The beginning of a new century in which Moto Guzzi will continue to produce magnificent motorcycles, authentic and strong in character.

Oozing with charm and cutting-edge technology, these modern bikes will be proudly made in Italy, as ever, at the Mandello del Lario factory that will continue to be the epicentre of Moto Guzzi passion.

The eagle’s nest will also benefit from a new look, the result of an ambitious project to reconstruct, expand and develop over the coming years. The factory will be opened to the public, becoming a place in which to meet and share the love for motorcycling. This brand-new industrial vision, based on the concepts of environmental sustainability and the efficient use of resources, will serve to promote a totally unique technical and cultural heritage by carefully balancing tradition and innovation, engineering and design.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, a first step towards 2121
“100” as in the history written during its first century, one of passion, skill, innovation, and success, both sporting and commercial. “100” as in the second century that has just begun. “100” to indicate, as is Moto Guzzi tradition, the displacement of the very modern new engine, the basis for a family of new generation motorcycles that will come to light in the future.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello will mark the start of a brand-new chapter in the Moto Guzzi story. A bike that refuses to conform or fit into just one category, it will combine dynamic flair with the travel vocation that lives in the soul of every Moto Guzzi.

A never-before-seen Moto Guzzi then, one characterised by cutting-edge technology, as the brand paves the way towards the future with innovative technical solutions and aerodynamics.

V100 Mandello will also present an innovative design which, as with all Moto Guzzis, focuses on showcasing the unique and inimitable twin engine. Lines that are far from nostalgic and that offer a modern take on the very cornerstones of Moto Guzzi style. This is clear to see in the shapes of the tank, which appear to be moulded directly to the muscular engine heads, in the under-seat side panels, the slots of which are a clear reference to the legendary 1976 Le Mans, and in the top fairing, a tribute to the 1981 Le Mans 850 III. A 21st century bike, in its style and technology, that embodies the character and authenticity typical of all Moto Guzzis.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello will represent a turning point in the brand’s history, the project introducing some very important technological innovations. It will be the very first motorcycle to offer adaptive aerodynamics, and the first Moto Guzzi to be equipped with advanced electronic solutions such as the six-axis inertial platform, cornering ABS, semi-active suspension and the quick shift, to cite just a few of the most important features.

And it will be the first Moto Guzzi to be powered by the new “compact block” engine, with its sophisticated technical characteristics. Tradition is respected with the 90° transverse V architecture of the twin, which guarantees that unique torque delivery and inimitable Moto Guzzi sound, but the project is in fact all new.

An innovative design has allowed for the development of an extremely compact and lightweight engine, which is 103 mm shorter than the V85 TT small block. The new twin stands out from all the engines recently built in Mandello del Lario for its cylinder heads, which are rotated by 90°, a decision that increases on-board comfort and rationalises the positioning of components in the intake and electronic injection systems.

Its actual displacement equates to 1042 cc, while timing involves a double over head camshaft with finger followers and four valves per cylinder, which are chain driven. It also flaunts a wet sump lubrication system, a liquid cooling system, and a hydraulically-controlled wet clutch.

Performance is second to none, with power in excess of 115 HP and torque of more than 105 Nm, with 90% already available at 3500 rpm and the limiter set at 9500 rpm. Data that effectively showcases the character and power of the new engine, gutsy and with real drive already at low speeds, and able to offer a riding experience worthy of the Moto Guzzi name.

The shaft drive employs a long aluminium single-sided swingarm, now positioned on the left. The drive shaft exit position, much lower with respect to previous Moto Guzzi engines, does away with any suspension reaction owing to the transfer of torque, with no need for linkage on the swingarm. This makes for a smooth ride during both acceleration and release, similar to that offered by a chain drive, but with the typical advantages of the shaft, so less maintenance and greater cleanliness.

The sports character of V100 Mandello does not just have to do with the performance of the new engine, but also the qualities of a compact and manageable chassis, which offers excitement through the turns and fast sections but also real stability over more long-range trips, with that inimitable front wheel feeling, synonymous with fun and riding pleasure. This is also thanks to the steel tube frame with 1486 mm wheelbase, fruit of a first-rate Moto Guzzi construction culture and ideal for showcasing the bike’s agility.

Its touring attitude is boosted thanks to the significant comfort that the generous saddle and active, relaxed riding position afford. The adoption of a single variable-section aluminium handlebar is in line with the philosophy of the model, perfect for ensuring control during sports riding while also offering a higher and more relaxed riding position when touring. Two-person travel is at the base of the project, the passenger able to count on a significant, well padded portion of saddle and practical grab handles, with a posture that ensures a relaxing trip. The comprehensive, dedicated accessories catalogue also includes a set of bike cases, which do not require any additional supports for assembly and contain both the side bulk and weight of the bike. Moto Guzzi technology also contributes to increasing both comfort and air protection, with the world-first adoption of an adaptive aerodynamic system that automatically adjusts the position of deflectors on the sides of the 17.5-litre tank depending on the speed and selected Riding Mode. The fully raised aerodynamic appendages reduce air pressure on the rider by 22%, which brings V100 Mandello close to the level of air protection afforded by more voluminous and less sporty tourers, thanks also to the protection provided by the top fairing, the height of which can be electronically adjusted.

This system contributes to what is a first-rate electronics package, comprising the Ride by Wire electronic accelerator for precise performance and consumption control, the advanced Marelli 11MP ECU, the six-axis inertial platform for effective management of the electronic controls, cruise control, and Cornering ABS to ensure active safety when braking through the turns.

Four Riding Modes are available, namely Travel, Sport, Rain and Road. Each of these manages three different engine mappings, four levels of traction control, three levels of engine brake and (in the version that introduces them as standard) also calibration of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension , which can adapt automatically, minute by minute, to suit the type of riding and the road conditions, for the best possible bike behaviour in any situation.

As ever, Moto Guzzi technology does not only aim to ensure a safe and exciting ride, but also facilitate life on-board. The rider need only select the Riding Mode that best suits their riding requirements in order to benefit from the best automatic adjustment of the electronic parameters, which can also be personalised so that every rider can find their preferred settings. Also included as standard is the 5″ colour TFT instrumentation, full LED lighting with DRL and the “bending lights” system with a pair of additional lights that illuminate the entire corner, increasing visibility when leaning.

V100 Mandello is available in two versions, which differ in terms of their trim. The more comprehensive version includes Öhlins semi-active suspension as standard, but also the quick shift, heated hand grips, and the Moto Guzzi MIA multimedia platform that allows a smartphone to be connected to the instrumentation via Bluetooth to extend its functions. Moto Guzzi MIA includes both the infotainment system for management of the voice assistant, phone calls and music via the intuitive handlebar controls, and the GPS function, which allows the rider to view directions directly on the instrument panel once a destination is set on the smartphone.

Expand Your Hunting Ground On The 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT

As one of the torquiest motorcycles in the segment, one could argue that the 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT doesn’t move across the earth – it simply spins the ground beneath it to help you reach your destination…

In a segment that necessitates comfort and the ability to cover ground effortlessly, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT rewrites the rulebook. Designed to offer riders a unique Grand Touring experience, but engineered to be a true Sports bike underneath the touring parts, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT covers ground unlike any Sports Tourer on the market.

Thanks to its EURO 5 rated, 175 HP, 141 Nm KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R-derived, 1,301 cc V-twin engine, this is the class leader when it comes to punching a hole in the atmosphere or hauling in the horizon. But it’s not only forward momentum where the long-distance BEAST is true to its namesake.

The WP APEX semi-active suspension on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT works with a specific logic. The design approach to preload adjustability of the rear shock has been geared for the long-distance tourer and is very intuitive. The logic allows riders to set the suspension up according to four different real-life riding situations, namely: RIDER, RIDER & PILLION, RIDER & LUGGAGE, or RIDER, PILLION & LUGGAGE. On top of that, an anti-dive function is fitted as standard.

A new 7 inch-TFT display allows for quick and easy ride adjustment on the fly, thanks to a newly designed layout striking the perfect balance between information and style. The set-up is completed by the new robust switchgear that not only feels premium but also allows for intuitive interaction between the rider and the dash itself.

The wheels on the 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT have been lifted from the latest KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R. These boast a weight saving of 1 kg of unsprung mass over the old set of rims; this not only improves the overall handling but also sports a more aggressive wheel design.

These all-new lightweight wheels are wrapped in new rubber, namely Continental ContiSportAttack 4. The ContiSportAttack 4 boasts a sportier and a more stable riding experience, delivering on the demand for a sportier tire to match the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT’s versatile abilities.

The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT will also debut an all-new navigation system called Turn-by-turn PLUS that will further enhance the touring experience. TBT+ will be available via KTMconnect. This allows navigation instructions to be projected directly on the new 7-inch TFT display, helping riders navigate more effectively. Turn-by-turn PLUS (TBT+) will be launched on the 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT, with roll-outs to other models in the near future.

Powered by SYGIC®, TBT+ can also operate offline, allowing riders to plan their journey and adventure from remote locations, with the NAVIGATION feature using industry-standard mapping to guide riders to their destination of choice. There’s also an advanced search feature, and a diverse range of POIs (including gas stations, restaurants, rest stops), while the system lets you select one of your pre-saved destinations directly from the TFT dash. All the above features can be accessed directly from the new 7-inch TFT dash, while the rider no longer needs to remove their phone from the jacket pocket, making it more convenient and efficient for those quick on-the-fly changes.

The new system also allows for waypoints to be skipped without prompting a turnaround. The system will merely recalculate and find the next available route to get you back on track. Also, the last 10 destinations searched are automatically saved and available directly on the dashboard.
