New Intercom For LS2 Helmets

New Intercom For LS2 HelmetsVoice-operated, Bluetooth® intercom designed for LS2 Helmets.

Hands free and hassle free, the new LS2 4X intercom uses voice-control and Bluetooth® to make staying in touch on the road a breeze.

Co-developed with Cardo, and tailored specially for LS2 Helmets, it features sound by JBL, live intercom for up to four riders, Natural Voice Operation and much more.

A must-have for group rides and touring, the 4X allows live chat with up to four fellow riders at a range of up to 1.2km. Auto-Reconnecting Bluetooth® means if someone separates from the group, they will automatically rejoin when they’re back in range – no stopping at the side of the road and fiddling with buttons to reconnect.

Quick and easy to pair, the 4X will connect with a smartphone and GPS at the same time, so the user can make and receive calls, stream music and hear turn-by-turn directions simultaneously.

Truly hands-free, all this is done without ever having to press a button. Switching and selecting features, and controlling paired devices, can all be carried out with ‘Always On’ Natural Voice Operation; just say “hey Cardo”, tell the 4X what you want, and it will do the rest.

Powerful 40mm high-definition speakers engineered by JBL mean that favourite track, GPS instructions – and those from fellow riders – are all crystal clear. They feature a specially tuned music processor and three distinctive audio profiles.

For complete peace of mind, the 4X is – as you’d expect – fully weatherproof. The battery allows an impressive talk time of 13 hours, and it only takes 2 hours for a full recharge. Plus, if you need a quick top-up while on the road, just 20 minutes of charging provides 2 hours of talk time.

Software updates are also easy. They can either be done Over-the-Air in the Cardo Connect smartphone app, or via computer with the supplied USB type C cable.

The LS2 4X retails at £239.99 (including VAT)and is compatible with the Advant, Advant X, Advant X Carbon, Infinity II and Vector II helmets.

Selected LS2 Helmet models are available with the 4X pre-installed, offering a significant cost saving as well as removing the need for fitting; for example the Advant X pre-fitted with the 4X retails at £429.99, a saving of over £100 compared to the price of purchasing the helmet and intercom separately (£299.99 + £239.99).

Cardo Systems breaks down barriers with new software update

Cardo Systems breaks down barriers with new software update, giving Cardo users the freedom to connect seamlessly with all major Bluetooth communicators.

Cardo Systems, the global market leader in wireless communication systems for powersports riders, today introduced a new software update to its cross-industry Bluetooth connectivity.  With this latest software release, connecting with a non-Cardo Bluetooth unit is now as seamless and fluid as connecting via Bluetooth to another Cardo communicator. The power to bridge the gap between communicator brands via Bluetooth connectivity is yet another game-changing innovation from Cardo as it continues to pursue industry-wide Bluetooth standardization and bring more riders together.

Inspired by the launch of Open Bluetooth Intercom (OBi), Cardo commissioned an independent international study* that proved consumers desired a simple and intuitive process to communicate with their fellow riders who didn’t have the same brand of communicator. Despite Cardo Systems already offering class-leading cross-brand connectivity via the OBi standard, and championing its leading Mesh technology, the developers at Cardo took the challenge of including even more brands head-on.

“In a recent survey conducted with motorcycle communicator users across the globe, Intercom connectivity with other brands was one of the most popular suggestions from respondents when asked what could be done to improve their communication experience,” said Dan Emodi, Chief Marketing Officer, Cardo Systems. “We’ve always strived to offer our own customers more and with this update we’re able to offer more independence for our users and friends using devices from other major brands, giving much greater choice, freedom and flexibility.”

With a simple Over-The-Air software update for all current 2023 Cardo devices (excluding the PACKTALK SLIM), from the top-of-the-range PACKTALK EDGE to the Spirit, the new update provides simple connectivity via Bluetooth with current-generation devices from Sena, Midland and Uclear. All users will now have the same experience as using the same intercom brand without the usual hassle of complex pairing and the frustrations such as losing a phone connection or sacrificing the ability to receive phone calls and navigation instructions. The only feature that is not supported in this cross-brand connection is music sharing, just as it’s not supported between two different generations of Cardo products.

Cardo users can simply download the latest software version from their Cardo Connect app, Over-The-Air and with no need for a cable, to activate the functionality. There is no need to press any specific button combination to pair or connect.  As new versions and upgrades are made available, a pop-up in the Cardo Connect App will appear automatically.

‘Hey Cardo, ask my partner to marry me…’

Cardo’s most recent customer survey revealed that over 250 Cardo users had proposed over their Cardo – just 20 years ago, this wouldn’t have been possible, as motorcycle communication devices didn’t exist except for hand gestures and shouting at each other at traffic lights.

Cardo launched the world’s first motorcycle Bluetooth-based wireless intercom headset and since then has been responsible for most of the industry’s innovations including the first mesh-powered intercom, the first premium sound system by JBL, and the first voice-powered communications system.

With over 18,000* respondents from 114 different countries, a close look at the data showed there were a lot of similarities between the global #CardoFam…

Nearly 60% of respondents rode wearing a full-face helmet with flip-up and modular options being the second most popular types of helmets.

Just over 44% of riders had adventure and touring models and the majority rode with 3-15 riders. Leisure was the purpose of riding for those surveyed, passion and freedom were cited as the top choices as to the reason behind their miles -and for over half of those surveyed, riding helps to improve their mental state.

When taking a riding holiday, 45% of riders choose to do more than 476 miles/766 km – no wonder that other than their Cardo, snacks, and drinks were the thing they didn’t leave the house without!

Over half of the respondents had used a communicator for three years or more and over 70% had chosen Cardo as their first-ever device.

Be sure to listen out for Cardo users singing along while riding – nearly half of those surveyed use their device to listen to music with 17% humming along, 44% singing occasionally, and 17% admitting they ‘perform’.

With answers from around the globe and riders all experiencing differing weather conditions, it was no surprise that the three most loved features of Cardo devices are: Sound by JBL, Waterproof, and Dynamic Mesh Connectivity.

When it comes to talking, ‘Family’ and ‘Spouse’ attributed to over half of the calls made by users with ‘Friends’ making up just under 30%.

Another thing that the #CardoFam was in agreement about was that nine-time Grand Prix motorcycle racing World Champion Valentino Rossi was their favourite celebrity biking role model, followed by six-time MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez and ‘King of Cool’ Steve McQueen in second and third place respectively.

Head to the Cardo Systems social media channels to learn more about the #CardoFam or www.cardosystems.com to find the Cardo device that suits you.

Open Bluetooth Intercom (OBI) supported on all current* Cardo Systems devices

Following the release of a series of software updates, the innovative Open Bluetooth intercom (OBI) functionality is now available across all 2023 devices* from Cardo Systems – including the top-of-the-range PACKTALK EDGE to the Spirit.

A new cross-industry standard, Open Bluetooth intercom, allows supported units from Cardo, Midland and UClear to communicate seamlessly with none of the usual frustrations users experience when using ‘universally connected’ cross-branded devices.

Instead of the usual convoluted pairing process with ‘universally connected units’, OBI will be activated automatically when paired to a supported device – no further toggling is required. Even for non-OBI units, the devices can be paired in Bluetooth model as any other Cardo unit – no more having to choose between pairing to a non-Cardo unit or maintaining connection with a phone for calls or listening to music.

Pioneering the wireless Bluetooth communication market for motorcyclists in 2003, this technological roll-out cements Cardo’s commitment to provide motorcyclists with the best solutions to communicate while riding.

Users can easily update their Cardo device to activate the OBI functionality through the Cardo Connect App – and there’s no need for a cable with Over-The-Air software updates. The new software pop-up in the Cardo Connect App will appear automatically whenever a new version is available.

The new small, slimline, antenna-free unit, has been completely redesigned, boasting a whole host of new features as well as benefiting from all the user-favourite attributes of the previous generation, to make the world’s best motorcycle communications device, even better.

In 2015, Cardo Systems launched the world’s first motorcycle communicator to go beyond Bluetooth, with its introduction of Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC). Cardo, Midland, Uclear, and Sygn House team up

Cardo, Midland, Uclear, and Sygn House team up to create an industry standard for integrated helmet communications.

The four companies jointly announce UNIVERSAL COMMUNICATION SOLUTION for industry-wide interoperable helmet communications.

Cardo Systems, Midland, Uclear and Sygn House (owners of the B+Com brand) have today announced an industry-wide solution to integrated helmet communication devices – ‘Universal Communication Solution’.

Much in the same way that the Automakers and car stereo manufacturers adopted universal car stereo sizing and mounts (DIN/Double DIN Standard), the Universal Communication Solution standardizes communication systems size, and shape, allowing for integrated fitment in new motorcycle helmets, meeting the new ECE 22.06 standards.

With this new standard in place, Helmet manufacturers can potentially speed up the process of integrating communications into new 22.06 helmets while offering motorcyclists a variety of communication brands to choose from, all while reducing development costs and time to market.

The Universal Communication Solution will also allow motorcyclists the freedom to choose, change and replace communication devices without compromising on fit and looks.

Speaking on behalf of the industry, Shachar Harari, VP business development at Cardo Systems commented, “This is a significant and important initiative that has seen collaboration between many of the key manufacturers in the helmet and communications industry.

This alliance between the companies will enable the supply of a variety of communication systems that are compatible and designed to be integrated with a variety of motorcycle helmet brands without any need for special mechanical adjustment per helmet model.

We call the helmet manufacturers to join forces with us and design their helmet offerings to adopt the Universal Communication Solution standard.”

While many helmet manufacturers have experienced demand for integrated communication solutions, until now this has been a significant R&D effort for each brand without a widely acceptable standard solution and without the advantage of duplicating this effort to new helmets. With the Universal Communication Solution, consumers will potentially be able to select their preferred brand of device, mounting the chosen unit cradle into a standardized cavity in the rear section of the helmet, linking to integrated speakers and microphone.

Shachar continued, “This approach also gives consumers choice, allowing the rider to use their preferred brand of system and easily transfer between helmets if required. We encourage other brands to join us and adopt the industry-wide Universal Communication Solution”.

Cardo Systems Onboard Again As An Official Partner Of MotoAmerica

Motorcycle Communications Technology Leader Set For Third Season Of Sponsorship.

MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is pleased to announce that Cardo Systems, with its advanced PACKTALK lineup of motorcycle communications technology, will again be an official partner for the 2022 Auto Parts 4 Less MotoAmerica Championship.

Cardo Systems specializes in the design, development, manufacturing and sale of state-of-the-art communications and entertainment systems for motorcyclists. Since its inception in 2004, Cardo has pioneered the vast majority of innovations for Bluetooth motorcycle communications systems, including the creation of the first rider-to-rider product and innovating connectivity with the introduction of its Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC).

Through its official partner relationship with MotoAmerica, Cardo will continue to showcase its advanced PACKTALK lineup, which features industry-leading connectivity, to road racing fans via the MotoAmerica series.

“This is the third year that we’ve had Cardo onboard as an official partner,” said Lance Bryson, MotoAmerica’s Director of Sponsorship. “We’ve used the Cardo Systems in the past on some of our race broadcasts and MotoAmerica Live+ programming and we will continue to do so. The system works well for us and it’s also an effective way to showcase the product to our fans and Cardo’s current and future customers. The upcoming season promises to be the best yet and we’re ready to get started.”

“Our partnership with MotoAmerica has been a good one,” said Dan Emodi, Cardo Systems’ Chief Marketing Officer. “The series has shown our product in a positive way to our existing and new customers. Being involved in MotoAmerica road racing puts us front and center to a very important audience for Cardo, both those at the events and those watching from home. We’re excited to start our third season as an official partner of the series.”

As the category leader, Cardo offers a wide range of products designed for multiple-use cases. Cardo’s newest FREECOM X and SPIRIT lines offer two variations of Bluetooth communications systems, while the PACKTALK line utilizes the “always-on” mesh connectivity via Cardo’s proprietary DMC.

Cardo Systems introduces new PACKTALK headphones

Cardo Systems introduces new PACKTALK headphones; extends usability beyond helmet-to-helmet communication.

New accessory allows Always-On Communication in non-helmet applications; changes the game for motorcycle coaches & instructors

Cardo Systems, the global market leader in wireless communication systems for powersports riders, today announced availability of its all-new PACKTALK Headphones. The new accessory extends use cases for the PACKTALK BOLD and BLACK models by allowing users to stay connected in non-helmet scenarios. Most notably, the PACKTALK Headphones change the game for motorcycle instructors and coaches who greatly benefit from a direct line of communication to riders.

Similar to “gaming” headsets, the PACKTALK Headphones feature noise-canceling earmuffs and a boom mic for crystal-clear communication. A built-in Cardo cradle allows users to conveniently transfer their PACKTALK unit from their helmet to their headphones. Once transferred, the PACKTALK operates just as though it was locked in on the side of the helmet – allowing anyone off the bike to communicate easily and effectively within the intercom network of up to 15 people.

“Over the last several years, we worked closely with industry professionals around the world to understand the need for an accessory that would allow seamless communication in non-helmet applications,” said Dan Emodi, Chief Marketing Officer for Cardo Systems. “We sent prototypes to coaches, instructors and other industry professionals. Feedback was incredible, as many shared personal testimonials that confirmed the need for such a product in the marketplace.”

Cardo’s early work to garner prototype feedback from professionals, and integration into authentic experiences like the 2019 Monster Energy Cup, helped the brand design and develop a durable and dependable product. Among those who tested early prototypes, include motocross legend Ricky Carmichael, Javi Echevarría, personal manager of pro off road rider Pol Tarres and video producer from Spain and last but not least off road legend and Riding Coach from New Zealand Chris Birch. Feedback from each includes the following:

“As coaches, we use the PACKTALK headphones at the Goat Farm and the riders have the PACKTALK Bold units on their helmets. I personally wish we would have had them when I was racing,” said Ricky Carmichael, Coach at Georgia Training Facility. “During training, they enable the riders to be on track a lot more and apply our feedback in real time, instead of us having to pull them over and tell them the sections they need to work on. Being able to communicate to a rider in real time creates a dynamic and much more efficient practice session.”

“We definitely gained a lot of productivity because of the perfect communication with the rider and saved much time and energy,” said Javi Echevarría, Video Producer. “The most challenging locations are always the ones where the rider is far away from us because coordination is hard when we do camera car shots. Communication with Pol Tarres is very important to get the shots in the least amount of time as possible. Without the Cardo, we probably needed double the amount of time to get those shots.”

It allows me to get so much more information across in my riding schools,” said Chris Birch, “It allows me to keep everything safe, and we get to hear all the funny stories, the jokes and the laughs when they work on their riding, and it keeps us all connected during the day, even if I have to get off my helmet”.
Available for $129.90, use cases for the PACKTALK Headphones extend beyond motorcycle instruction. From production shoots to UTV applications such as hunting, fishing and farming, users will greatly benefit from the PACKTALK’s hands-free, always-on communication network.

The PACKTALK Headphones pair seamlessly with Cardo’s top-of-the-linePacktalk Black and BLACK models. Featuring Cardo’s industry-leading Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC), each PACKTALK model offers a ‘set and forget it’ mesh intercom connection. Once paired within the always-on network, users will automatically reconnect each time the units are on and within range. In addition, Cardo’s proprietary Natural Voice Operation provides an easy, hands-free experience, while each model’s waterproof design and 13-hour battery life provide supreme durability and unmatched dependability.

The new PACKTALK Headphones are available for preorder at CardoSystems.com and will begin to ship to retailers in mid-July 2021. For more information about Cardo Systems, visit CardoSystems.com or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and see all the latest videos on YouTube.

Take the Scenic Route: 8 Best Motorcycle Rides in the US

The great American highways might have been created with cars and trucks in mind, but there’s no better way to feel the open road than on a motorcycle. For those who are craving some nature and some time behind the handlebars, it’s easy to get both when you take a cruise on America’s most beautiful roads.

If you’re looking to see the wonders of the USA on the back of your favorite bike, here are eight must-do rides. Some are reasonably newbie-friendly, while others are challenging roads best suited to experts. Each one offers a unique experience that shows you something great about the backcountry corners of America, and each will give you a greater appreciation of the exquisite scenery in the Land of the Free.

Blue Ridge Parkway
  1. Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia/North Carolina)

The Blue Ridge Mountains are some of America’s oldest and most beautiful natural features and, as luck would have it, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a 500-mile road created specifically to allow you to enjoy them. Get your friends together, sync your helmet communication systems and  enjoy a group ride on these beautiful mountain passes. You’ll find not one but two spectacular national parks along its length: the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina and Shenandoah in Virginia. If you don’t mind some crowds, come in the fall for a truly spectacular display of the colors of autumn leaves.

  1. Pacific Coast Highway (California)

An iconic route for the development of west coast biker culture, the PCH stretches over 650 miles up and down the coast of California. The best views (and some of the most challenging conditions) are generally agreed to be in the route’s central Big Sur section, but just about any section of this highway will provide some famous scenery. Note that since it’s also a major state road, traffic can easily ruin the fun, so scout out a section ahead of time and find out from the locals which times you can catch a quieter ride.

  1. Beartooth Highway (Montana/Wyoming)

A ride for the true wilderness lover, the Beartooth Highway snakes its way through the mountains of Montana and Wyoming and is crowned with a glorious summit called the Top of the World that clocks in at a whopping 11,000 feet. Go just another 50 miles or so, and you’re in Yellowstone National Park, another of America’s true natural gems, and Old West aficionados should make sure not to miss the town of Cody, home of Buffalo Bill. Note that the Beartooth requires more attention to weather conditions than some other routes since it’s prone to everything from extreme winds to mid-summer snow.

  1. The Twisted Sisters (Texas)

Looking to push your riding skills to the limit? The infamous Twisted Sisters route of Texas will test you like no other. These three country roads form a 100-mile loop that’s infamous for its challenging twists, dips and hairpins. Like a lot of skill rides, the Sisters are best experienced with a group of friends to enjoy the views with and look after one another, so grab your buddies for this one (and maybe a motorcycle Bluetooth headset to stay connected.)

  1. Tail of the Dragon (Tennessee)

One of America’s most famous rides, both for its legendary Blue Ridge scenery and the high skill level required, Tennessee’s Tail of the Dragon is a classic piece of motorcycle history that lives on today. Unfortunately, its popularity means that you’ll often have to navigate around swarms of other riders, as well as state troopers looking for an easy ticket, but it’s worth it for what could be the ride of your life. (Check out the nearby Cherohala Skyway, too, which has equally spectacular scenery and is typically less crowded.)

North Shore, Oahu
  1. Oahu (Hawaii)

When it comes to scenery, Hawaii has so many wonderful rides that it’s almost impossible to choose, but touring Oahu by motorcycle is a great choice, thanks to the numerous attractions you can scope out on the way. From the famous dormant volcano called Diamond Head to the heartbreaking beauty of the Oahu North Shore, there’s no shortage of amazing locales to scope out around Oahu. Just beware of sudden rainstorms and fog as you explore these ancient and mysterious islands that form a very different part of America.

Million Dollar Highway
  1. Million Dollar Highway (Colorado)

Colorado has more than its share of scenic riches, but the Million Dollar Highway (US 550 between Ouray and Durango) just might outshine them all, at least from a motorcyclist’s perspective. As if the mountains weren’t enough, you can catch a glimpse of the abandoned Idarado Mine on your way up, a relic of the industry that originally put Colorado on the map. Note that this one isn’t for the faint of heart—the two-lane road hugs the side of the San Juan Mountains for dear life, many sections don’t include a guardrail, and RVs and campers frequently go barreling down the road.

  1. State Route 36 (California)

The road itself may not have the cultural clout of the PCH, but California’s State Route 36 is a beauty all unto itself. For one thing, it passes through the gorgeous and iconic California redwood forests, and it also offers a gorgeous glimpse of the many mountain ecosystems of the Golden State. It’s also a slightly gentler ride than some others on this list, although riders should still exercise caution around the route’s numerous blind corners.

With such a big and broad country to explore, lots of people swear that the best way to see it is on the back of a bike, and we’re inclined to agree. When it’s time to start planning your next great bike trip, take the opportunity to remind yourself about one thing that’s incredibly right with America: its bounteous natural beauty.
