Knox All Sports – transforming textile motorcycle jacket

Designed for people with a sense of adventure both on and off two wheels, the multi-activity All Sports jacket from the Knox Studio Collection provides comfort, waterproofing, protection and style in one flexible garment.

Providing for a seamless transition between life on and off the bike, the All Sports features the Studio Collection’s unique Dual Fit System: open up the underarm zips for a close and perfect fit over any Knox armoured shirt on the bike; remove the armoured layer, close the zip and the jacket is now ready to wear in everyday life and for other outdoor sports.

The Dual Fit System transforms the traditional approach to armoured textile jackets, which are too bulky to wear for anything other than motorcycling with the armour fitted and too baggy if the protectors are removed.

All Sports jackets are made from a textured woven twill with abrasion-resistant panels of stretch fabric across the shoulders and elbows. A high performance waterproof/breathable 10k membrane is laminated to the fabric shell, which also has a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish, so that water will bead off the surface, preventing the jacket from becoming water-logged. Ad the main front zip is a water resistant YKK Aquaguard®.

Ribbed collar and cuffs add protection against the cold and are removable in warmer weather, while three concealed YKK zipped vents on front shoulders and back can be opened to allow a cooling breeze to circulate in warmer conditions.

A breathable cotton interior lining is used for the body, with taffeta inside the sleeves that makes getting the jacket on and off easy.

All Sports Jackets are designed to be work over any armoured shirts from Knox, all of which are breathable, moisture wicking, soft and stretchy, with CE-approved armour at shoulders, elbows and back, so that the wearer is protected but has total freedom of movement.

Combined with a quilted thermal jacket or any of Knox’s Dry Inside or Cold Killers base and mid-layers, it makes a complete and flexible system.

The All Sports is available for men in Black and Black/Grey, sizes S-3XL and retails for £229.99. Prices for armoured shirts start at £99.99 and the thermal quilted jacket is £39.99.

Knox transform the leather biker jacket

The new Roscoe and Roberta leather jackets from the Knox Studio Collection can be transformed from fully functioning classic motorcycle jackets to stylish street wear, and back again, thanks to an ingenious Dual Fit system.

The jackets are perfect for riders looking for non-bulky stylish clothing and are designed to give a seamless transition between life on and off the bike.

The Roscoe and Roberta leather jackets are designed to fit over any Knox armoured shirt, providing CE-approved protection on the bike. When you want to wear the jacket casually, on its own off the bike, remove a Dual Fit zip panel under the arm and the jacket is resized to fit perfectly without the armoured shirt.

Both the men’s Roscoe and women’s Roberta are contemporary original designs from Knox made from soft and supple, yet tough, 1mm full grain black leather, which is designed to develop its own patina over time to add to its look. A cotton interior lining is used on the body, for comfort and freshness, with taffeta inside the sleeves that makes getting the jacket on and off easy. YKK Metaluxe zips on the exterior waist and chest pockets add to the timeless appearance and provide an assurance of strength and durability. Inside is a zipped leather-bound pocket and at the waist are adjustable side belts. An adjustable cuff closure system enables easy fitting of gloves.

Knox produce a wide choice of armoured shirts, for men and women, designed to suit the Studio Collection. All are breathable and stretchy, for comfort, with low profile CE-approved armour at shoulders, elbows and back, so the wearer is protected but retains total freedom of movement. These can be combined with any of Knox’s Dry Inside or Cold Killers base- and mid-layers to create a complete riding system.

The Knox Roscoe for men is available in Black, sizes S-3XL and retails for £349.99. The ladies version, the Roberta, comes in Black, sizes XS – 2XL and also costs £349.99. Prices for armoured shirts start at £99.99. All prices include VAT.

Knox transform the wax cotton motorcycle jacket

Knox have transformed the wax cotton jacket for motorcyclists, with two new contemporary styles; the Leonard (for men) and Lea (for women). They look, and are tailored to fit, like stylish wax cotton jackets, but can be transformed into motorcycle wear in seconds, thanks to an ingenious expansion system that allows a body armoured shirt to be worn underneath. Both the Leonard and Lea are part of the Knox Studio Collection, which makes a seamless transition between life on and off the bike, answering the trend for more fitted stylish clothing for both men and women.

The Lea Jacket is cut and tailored for women so the fit is perfect and the design is as smart and stylish as women would expect from their favourite jacket. Both jackets are Original Knox designs and feature a modern washed wax for added suppleness.

Dual Fit System:

The Leonard and Lea are different from most modern bike jackets. Instead of being fitted with impact protectors at shoulders elbows and in the back, which makes them too bulky to wear for anything apart from riding, they feature the unique Knox Dual Fit System.

A zip runs from cuff to waist, concealed under the arm. Opening it transforms the jacket, expanding it by one size and allowing enough room to wear an armoured shirt and warm mid layer underneath, from the extensive range produced by Knox.

The armoured shirts are built with soft stretch for comfort and have CE-approved armour at shoulders, elbows and back, which are held securely in place, so the wearer is protected but has total freedom of movement. When not riding, simply remove the armoured layer, close the zip and the outer jacket is ready to wear in everyday life, fitting like a casual jacket.

Further transformation can be made by removing the soft and stretchy ribbed collar and cuffs on warmer days. An optional waterproof hood – in matching wax cotton with taped seams and fully lined – can be quickly and easily attached to either jacket.

Inside is a breathable cotton lining on the body section, for comfort and breathability, with taffeta in the sleeves sleeves, for ease putting on and taking off the jacket.

Waterproof:

The Leonard and Lea look and feel like traditional wax cotton jackets, but are waterproof and breathable, thanks to a 10k membrane that is laminated to the inside with fully taped seams, keeping the rain on the outside.

This modern wax fabric has the added benefit of being machine-washable, so there is no need for re-waxing afterwards. All external zips are YKK Aquaguard® for water-resistance.
The Knox Leonard Wax Waterproof Jacket for Men is available in Black and Brown, sizes S-3XL and retails for £229.99. The ladies version, the Lea, comes in Black or Blue/Black, sizes XS – 2XL and also costs £229.99. Prices for armoured shirts start at £99.99. New Knox HC Tech back protector is lightest yet

British impact protection specialists Knox have developed a fully CE-approved Original Equipment back protector that is lighter than a First Class letter and the lightest on the market today!

Designed to be fitted into motorcycle jackets and weighing just 86 grams [in small size] the new HC Tech is well below the 100 gram limit for a first class letter, adding minimal weight to heavy and cumbersome motorcycle jackets. Not only is it exceptionally light, the HC Tech is only 19 mm thick, with a smooth covering and specially designed edging so that it is comfortable and barely noticeable when fitted. And its curved inner structure delivers greater flexibility too.

The reduced weight doesn’t compromise protection; the HC Tech exceeds the levels required for the new CE EN1621–2:2014 standard, thanks to a three-layer construction with a unique honeycomb core.

The HC Tech is also tested at -20 C and + 40 C to ensure that levels of protection are provided at extreme temperatures. All Knox protectors are designed, developed and tested in their UK factory, then submitted for additional testing with fully approved laboratories for complete peace of mind.

Knox have supplied over 12.7 million pieces of Original Equipment armour to some of the world’s most trusted motorcycle brands, including Triumph, ReVit, Indian, Victory and RS Taichi, who choose Knox Armour for its balance of protection, weight and comfort.

The Knox HC Tech is produced in three sizes, to suit both men’s and ladies’ riding jackets, and is available as Original Equipment in Knox partners’ ranges. Riders wishing to upgrade the protector in their current motorcycle jacket, can also buy the HC Tech direct from Knox for £19.99 including VAT.

For information on the complete Knox OE Armour range, call 01900 825825 or visit: www.planet-knox.com.

Notes: Planet Knox Ltd launched the 1st commercially available back protector under the Pro-Tek brand in 1981. This was followed by the award winning Pro-Tek Elite suit in 1988, the first motorcycle jacket to feature built-in protectors in the elbows, shoulders and back. Knox continued to innovate and launched the worlds first CE-approved body armour in 1995

Sandwiched between the two is a new high performance 10k/10k membrane that sits in the middle, providing a barrier against the wind and cold.

The 10k/10k membrane is also water-repellent and breathable. Combined with the Sport Top’s 3D fleece back section, it helps prevent overheating during activities.

New Knox Meta-Sys is lighter and stronger

Launched in 2012 and featuring all-new dual-compound hybrid technology, a unique four-plate structure, the Knox Meta-Sys back protector set new standards of protection and flexibility. Updated and improved for 2015, the new Meta-Sys offers more protection, less weight and is fully certified to the highest level of the latest CE standard.

The Meta-Sys is constructed using a ’hard’ polypropylene outer shell to dissipate impact, combined with a lightweight Nitrex inner layer for superior energy absorption and protection against multiple impacts. It exceeds Level 2 of the tough new EN 1621-2:2014 back protector standard; the mean transmitted force is less than 6kN in each of the 10 tests. In fact some tests showed just 3kN. The Meta-Sys offers the same level of protection in extreme temperatures, ranging from -20 to +40C, something that few other protectors achieve.

This increased protection hasn’t come at the expense of weight; the 2015 Meta-Sys weighs just 1.08kg. Lighter than most full carbon motorcycle helmets.

Constructed in four sections that move independently, the Meta-Sys allows unrestricted movement and flexibility. It automatically lengthens and shortens as the rider bends and straightens, for complete coverage and comfort, and comes in three torso lengths for optimum fit.

The Meta-Sys is available from all authorised Knox retailers at £129.99 (RRP including VAT). See it on the Knox stand at Motorcycle Live this November, (3C10).

Notes

EN 1621-2:2014 assesses the performance of protective devices by measuring the force transmitted through it when impacted by a falling mass of 5kg. Protectors subjected to the test are deemed to conform to the standard if the average transmitted force of 10 tests is less than 18 kN for Level 1 protectors and 9 kN for Level 2.

All Knox back protectors have a 5 year service life. This means the materials used in the products will not naturally degrade over this time span. This excludes accident damage, general wear and tear, exposure to extreme conditions or substances that may cause adverse effects (petrol, oil, etc).

Meta-Sys Additional features

Air induction system for ventilation / Multi adjustment system on the waist for a tailored fit / Extra side adjustment straps give a more secure fit against the spine / Quick release soft shoulder straps can cross over for increased comfort / Optional Knox CE Approved Chest protector

Knox Handroid POD protects hands-down

Knox’s Handroid POD urban glove is now fully CE approved. The POD joins only a handful of riding gloves – including the ‘full-length’ version of the Handroid – that have achieved the stringent new prEN13594:2012 “Protective gloves for motorcycle riders” standard.

To meet the standard, the Handroid POD was subjected to 15 separate tests, designed to assess resistance to cuts and abrasions, tear and seam strength, impact protection and restraint – ensuring they won’t come off in an accident. Gloves are also tested for dexterity, to make sure the rider can still operate controls easily while wearing them.

Designed to offer the urban rider the same level of protection and unique cool styling as the acclaimed Handroid, the Handroid POD features three patented elements: a live exoskeleton covering the fingers and thumbs; Knox’s SPS scaphoid protection system and Boa lacing, which is located on the side of the cuff for a better fit under the sleeves of riding jackets.

The Knox Handroid POD retails at £149.99 including VAT and comes in sizes XS-XXL. For more information call Knox on O19OO 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com

US Patent approved for Knox Scaphoid Protection System

Knox have achieved a US Patent for their widely acclaimed Scaphoid Protection System (SPS).   The US patent [US8671463] recognises the unique properties of this innovation and thus protects it from copies in America. Invented by Knox in 2003, SPS received a European patent [EP1594378] in 2011 and the addition of a US patent effectively gives this British innovation worldwide coverage.

This invention’s unique properties are the potential elimination of scaphoid and general metacarpal injury when the user falls onto an outstretched palm This is a normal human reaction that often results in one of the most common injuries to the hand. The scaphoid is a carpal bone, roughly the size and shape of a cashew nut, which helps to control strength and use of the thumb. Once fractured it is notoriously difficult to heal, because it only receives a limited supply of blood, and is often misdiagnosed.

Multiple TT winner John McGuinness is the latest in a long line of racers to fall victim to scaphoid injury, which seriously affected his performance at this year’s NW200 and TT. Other famous riders to suffer serious scaphoid injury include Casey Stoner and Kevin Schwantz, who had one scaphoid removed completely.

Knox SPS works by adding two ‘skids’ [sliders] to the palm of the glove, one of which covers the general area over the scaphoid.  The second slider acts as a bridge and stops the grab and twist effect. This system protects the hand from compression fractures and hyper-extension, caused by the grab effect when a leather palm grips the road surface and forward momentum carries the rider’s body over the hand. SPS allows the outstretched hand to slide along at the same speed and remain in front of the rider’s body.

Knox SPS is becoming increasingly popular as riders and racers begin to understand and appreciate its real world benefits. SPS is fitted as standard throughout the Knox range of Hand Armour for motorcyclists and MTB riders and is widely used by other brands, including Weise, Racer, RS Taichi, Richa, Gimoto, Spyke, Polo, Teknic, Scorpion, Evolution, Lookwell, Damen, Drenaline, RedLine and many more.

“If it doesn’t say Knox, it’s not Scaphoid Protection” says Knox Managing Director Geoff Travell.

Knox Covert leather gloves with OutDry

Designed for summer riding the all-new Knox Covert glove features OutDry®, the latest in waterproofing technology which keeps the gloves thin and light, offering maximum feel and control.

Unlike standard waterproof inserts, the OutDry® membrane is bonded directly to the glove’s shell. This prevents the build-up of water between the outer and inner layers as well as sealing stitching and joins, for a complete and durable waterproof finish.

OutDry® is also highly breathable, allowing perspiration to escape easily, and is windproof, reducing the effects of wind chill. Because the membrane is bonded directly to the shell, Covert are thinner than waterproof gloves with a separate membrane, giving the wearer greater feel and control. Stretch panels and box construction fingers aid dexterity too.

Made from tough yet supple Korean Cowhide, the palm and fingertips are reinforced with Pittards digital goat leather, with biofoam panels on the thumb, top of hand and outer wrist. Patented scaphoid protection is provided by low profile Knox SPS sliders.

Velcro™ and zip closure gives a secure fit; the latter is fully waterproof for extra protection against the elements.

Knox Covert Gloves are available in black, sizes S-XXL, at the suggested retail price of £99.99 including VAT.

Full CE-approval for Knox Orsa gloves

Protection is a Cert for Redesigned Knox Orsa Leather Motorbike Gloves. Full CE-approval for Knox Orsa Leather summer riding gloves.

To achieve certification to EN13594:201, the Orsa Leather Motorbike Gloves had to pass 15 separate tests assessing – amongst other criteria – tear and seam strength, plus cut, abrasion and impact resistance. Knox redesigned the venting panels to improve the integrity of the leather and ensure a high score in the tear resistance test.

Introduced to the award-winning Hand Armour range last year – and used by World Sidecar Championship runners-up and TT racers Ben and Tom Birchall – the Orsa Leather is made from soft but durable goatskin for feel, flexibility and strength.

It features the patented Knox Scaphoid Protection System (SPS), which is made up of two sliders that eliminate the grab effect that occurs when a leather palm makes contact with the road, reducing the risk of hyper extension breaking the scaphoid bone in the wrist.

Impact-absorbing honeycomb Gel, backed with memory foam and encapsulated in a strong outer shell, shields the knuckle area. Abrasion resistant sliders are incorporated on the back of each finger, for added protection.

The Orsa Leather has Knox’s low-profile BOA wrist closure system, for consistent tightening and a perfect fit. It also ensures the glove will not come undone during an accident, and is designed to sit comfortably under a jacket cuff.

Available in Black or White in sizes S – XXL, the new CE-approved Orsa Leather gloves retail for £79.99 including VAT. Call O19OO 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com/orsaleather

New Knox Aegis Back Protector can take the heat

As a result of continued research, development and testing, the Aegis has proved to be the most technically advanced back protector in the Knox range and it is now fully certified to the new EN1621-2:2014 Standard, meeting Level 2 – the highest rating of the CE approved back-protectors.

Unlike most other commercially available back protectors, the Aegis has also been tested and approved to Level 2 at the optional high (+40°C) and low (-20°C) temperatures, proving it offers the top level of protection for all types of motorcycle riding in both hot and cold climates. It is also certified for use in MTB riding and Winter sports.

The 2014 model includes a new inner layer of EVA foam, which is incorporated beneath the honeycomb plates for extra spinal protection. Inclined Cell Wall Technology provides maximum impact energy absorption, while the flex channels [highlighted in yellow] allow the spine section to move with the rider, so that the Aegis sits perfectly around the contours of the back. Another addition for 2014 is the breathable spacer fabric liner, which assists airflow to keep the rider cool, and can be removed and machine washed for freshness.

Produced in seven sizes, the Aegis has a multi-position waist strap and natural positioning shoulder strap system [both highlighted in yellow], for a precision fit on any rider. This specially developed securing system also prevents the protector ‘riding up’ during use. The Knox Aegis is available at a suggested retail price of £99.99 including VAT. KNOX Fastback Gilet – New Design for 2014

Knox, the British impact protection specialists, have updated their Fastback armoured sports gilet for 2014, introducing new stretch sports mesh and improved fitting system for an optional chest guard.

Designed and manufactured in Britain by Knox, the Fastback is fitted with Knox Extreme Short Back Armour that finishes at the waist, so it fits neatly under a leather jacket and is also comfortable to wear with textile riding suits. The lightweight back protector is CE approved to EN1621-2 Level 2 and provides additional coverage over the scapula [shoulder blade] area. Featuring a strong sport mesh construction, which is elastic and breathable, the Fastback is instantly comfortable and allows riders to zip up and go, making it convenient for commuters and touring riders alike. Raised channels and vents in the back protector help to keep the wearer cool and avoid the build up of perspiration on clothes.

Soft elastic side straps hold the back protector in place and provide additional support to the wearer and an optional CE-approved chest protector can be attached to a Velcro tab on the chest. When it’s time to freshen up the Fastback, simply remove the back protector before machine washing. Produced in five sizes (S- XXL) in Black/Grey, the Knox Fastback retails for £89.99 (including VAT) and the optional Chest Guard upgrade costs £19.99. All Knox back protectors come with a 5-year service life, which is a similar lifespan to top of the range helmets, and not something that all protection brands offer.

Knox Handroid Gloves Now CE Approved

Knox Handroid, has achieved full CE approval for 2014.  Independently tested and certified to the latest European standard prEN13594 2012 [“Protective gloves for motorcycle riders”], the Handroid is one of only a handful of gloves the meet the rigorous demands. To make the grade, Handroid had to pass no less than 15 different tests, including;

> Abrasion resistance
> Cut resistance
> Tear strength
> Seam strength
> Impact resistance
> Gloves are also tested for dexterity, to ensure that the rider can still operate controls easily while wearing them, as well as restraint, so they won’t fly off in an accident. Made from Japanese race leather, with Kangaroo palms and the additional benefit of Knox SPS ‘sliders’, both the Handroid and short-cuff Handroid Pod passed all tests with flying colours.

“There are many gloves appearing with CE labels, but hardly any that meet the toughest standard for motorcycle riders. Being approved to EN13594 proves that Handroid not only have the most advanced specification, but also offer real protection too” says Knox founder Geoff Travell.

Handroid are available in Black, Black/White or White/Black Sizes S-XXL, at a retail price of RRP of £169.99 including VAT.  Call 01900 825825 or visit www.knoxamour.co.uk for details.
