Tracker, Rally, Sport & Tour Collections Completely Restyle Indian’s New FTR 1200 & FTR 1200 S

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, today announced its FTR 1200 accessory lineup at the International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA) in Milan, Italy. More than 40 individual accessories provide riders with endless style combinations to make the FTR 1200 truly their own. At the same time, Indian has curated four collections – Tracker, Rally, Sport and Tour – allowing riders to transform the FTR 1200 into the style that represents their riding preference.

Indian broke new ground for American V-twins when developing its FTR 1200 – an aggressively styled creation that blends elements of flat track, street and sport into one of the most unique motorcycles ever developed. The introduction of the four accessory collections, and the complete lineup of more than 40 parts and accessories, takes the FTR 1200 platform to another level, allowing riders to completely restyle the bike into a personal expression unlike any other.

“In its stock form, the FTR 1200 is a beautifully-designed flat track-inspired street bike with immense opportunity for personalisation and customisation,” said Reid Wilson, Sr. Director for Indian Motorcycle. “The new accessory lineup significantly elevates the FTR 1200 platform. Riders can completely restyle the look and feel of the bike to better represent their riding style through one of our four collections or by mixing and matching parts to create something truly one-of-a-kind.”

Built for personalisation, the FTR 1200 collections comprise more than 40 different parts and accessories and feature the following:

Tracker
The Tracker collection for the FTR 1200 is most representative of the bike’s flat-track racing roots. It’s the closest riders will come to a street-legal FTR750 race bike. A shallow seat with a unique seat cowl, high-mount slip-on exhaust by Akrapovič, and side-mounted number plates set the Tracker collection apart.

Rally
The Rally collection draws inspiration from lonely camp sites traversed on forgotten forest roads. Riders will immediately notice sturdy aluminium spoked wheels and a high-mount Akrapovič exhaust on the Rally collection. A unique seat, mudguards, tank covers, windscreen, Rally Handlebar by ProTaper, and a high-mount license plate holder round out the Rally collection. The configuration allows the FTR 1200 to take full advantage of the bike’s 150 mm of suspension travel.

Sport
The Sport collection is a no-nonsense assembly of carbon fibre parts that scream speed and visually underscore the FTR 1200’s performance potential. The Sport collection is the FTR 1200 distilled down to its athletic core, outfitted with a low mount slip-on exhaust by Akrapovič, and a unique carbon fibre front mudguard, tank cover and seat cowl.

Tour
The Tour collection provides a heavy dose of utility, turning the FTR 1200 into a highway weapon for smashing miles on longer journeys. With plenty of storage via water-resistant, roll-top side messenger bag, tank bag, and a windshield, the Tour collection keeps FTR 1200 riders comfortable on longer-hauls.

“When developing the FTR 1200, it was important for us to create a platform that offered dynamic, yet convenient, personalisation and customisation opportunities,” said Ben Lindaman, Indian Motorcycle Senior International Product Manager. “We’re extremely proud of these accessories and collections, as they drastically change the design of the bike – ultimately creating more styling options to satisfy a wide-range of rider preferences.”

The FTR 1200 combines race-inspired design and nimble handling with an upright riding position to create a commanding riding experience. A new 1203cc V-Twin engine with approximately 120 horsepower (90kW) makes sure every rider feels like a pro when they twist the throttle. The new platform is a key component in Indian Motorcycle’s broader mission to expand its global appeal and reach new riders.

The complete accessory lineup and four collections will be available in dealers in spring 2019. To find your nearest dealer, visit www.indianmotorcycle.eu.

Indian Motorcycle Benelux partners with Dirt Track Lelystad

Indian Motorcycle Benelux is proud to announce a sponsorship deal with Dirt Track Lelystad. The agreement, which runs through 2019, will see the Indian Motorcycle logo on banners and flags displayed prominently around the venue.

The package also includes an Indian Motorcycle display stand at race events and access to the venue and track for activities such as press days, photoshoots and Indian Motorcycle Riders Group events.

Lynda Provoost, Marketing manager for Indian Motorcycle Benelux said of the deal, “We have a really good relationship with the team at Dirt Track Lelystad. It’s not just sponsorship, but a true partnership and we are really looking forward to organising exciting events together as part of this agreement. We have already held a very successful press day at the track and we look forward to bringing the thrill of flat track racing to even more people.”

Dirk Pieper, the owner of Dirt Track Lelystad added, “We are very happy to be part of this partnership. With the long and successful history of Indian Motorcycle in flat track racing, I can’t think of a better partner to be working with to promote the sport in Europe.”

Flat track racing is growing in popularity at a very fast past in the Benelux region with the number of visitors to Dirt Track Lelystad increasing constantly since its 2017 opening. In 2018 the short track ¼ mile oval played host to several racing events including three rounds of the Hells Race series and the Flatlands Festival which was won by ‘Shrimp’, the modified Indian Scout Sixty of Anvil Motociclette. With multiple events already in the race calendar for 2019 attracting riders from across Europe, Dirt Track Lelystad and Indian Motorcycle are looking at the opportunity to organise an additional flat track event for 2019.

As well as racing events, Dirt Track Lelystad promotes and develops the sport with try-out sessions, a flat track school and free training. These activities, which include bike rental, allow riders to get to know a dirt track bike, the track and receive expert tuition from flat track riders Jan Simon Ter Heide and Maikel Dijkstra. Dijkstra, who is the best flat track rider in the Netherlands, a DTRA racer and has competed in American Flat Track events, also uses Dirt Track Lelystad as his training base.

Indian Motorcycle launch an exclusive riding goggle with 100% and Dimitri Coste

Indian Motorcycle today announced the launch of an exclusive riding goggle in collaboration with 100% and Dimitri Coste. Featuring the advanced comfort and safety standards of 100%, the brand synonymous with motocross Americana, and the designs of photographer and film director Dimitri Coste, the limited edition Barstow goggle is the perfect choice to match the newly unveiled Indian FTR 1200.

Although Indian Motorcycle has previously worked with 100% and Coste independently, this is the first time all have collaborated on one project. Talking of the joint project, Andreas Geisinger, Manager of Parts, Garments and Accessories business for Indian Motorcycle, commented “We are very pleased to announce this exclusive collaboration with 100% and Dimitri Coste. The Barstow model is the perfect match for our FTR 1200 Flat Tracker, and with Dimitri Coste within the Indian Motorcycle family, it was a natural progression for all three of us. From the very beginning when we started to plan the accessories and garments for this new world of FTR, 100% were already in mind as one of our preferred collaboration partners.”

The exclusive design is based on The Barstow goggle from 100% which gains inspiration from the early days of motorcycling, fusing this classic vision with modern styling and technology, resulting in a timeless look with next level performance. A minimal frame design works in union with an anti-fog lens to increase visibility with the upper vents forcing air in and channelling moisture out to reduce fogging. Triple-layer, fleece lined face foam provides superior comfort and moisture management with a premium strap trim elevating performance and adding rich detail. Enhancing the design aesthetic are the distinctive lens shape and embossed frame pinstripe, which complements the frame contour and styling, plus premium enamel coated metal badges. Dimitri’s preferred mode of transportation off the track is his late 80’s full-size Dodge van. Dubbed the ‘Boogie Van’ it served as an inspiration for the packing of his signature goggle.

“This goggle is like the third chapter of a collaboration that started with the 100% Barstow goggle three years ago,” says Dimitri Coste, a long-time collaborator with 100%. “My tricolor checkerboard pattern was first used by 100% for a pair of white framed goggles then red the following year. It was pretty natural to bring the strongest one at the end – the black one. I was very excited at the concept of this three-way collaboration and the opportunity to bring my signature patterns to this goggle for Indian Motorcycle was an honour. I love the checkered leather piece on the strap and the strong look of the black theme.”

The 100% brand has been linked to many iconic moments that have built the roots and history of what is modern motocross. The roots of the 100% brand date back to the early 1980s when the popular logo graced the factory racing equipment of the biggest names in motocross. Thirty years later the passion for the spirit of racing remains.

Russ Koza, Brand Manager for 100%, added, “We’re excited to introduce this new collaboration with Indian Motorcycle and Dimitri Coste. Having worked with both of them before, it’s really powerful to bring everyone together on this new project and create this exclusive goggle design for the FTR 1200”.

The limited edition goggle is exclusively available through the Indian Motorcycle dealer network from the second half of October 2018. To find the nearest dealer, visit www.indianmotorcycle.eu.

Indian Motorcycle debuts highly-anticipated FTR™ 1200 & FTR™ 1200 S

Today Indian Motorcycle, America’s First Motorcycle Company, set a new standard for American motorcycling with the unveiling of the FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S. The FTR platform proudly breaks new ground and answers the call of enthusiasts around the world anxiously awaiting its debut.

Inspired by Indian Motorcycle’s storied history and success in flat track racing, the FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S take design and styling cues from the championship-winning FTR750 race bike that has dominated American Flat Track since it was introduced in 2016. It also takes styling inspiration from the FTR1200 Custom, unveiled a year ago as an exploration of what a flat track-inspired street bike could be. The platform delivers an American motorcycle with true flat tracker style and the performance to back it up.

The FTR 1200 combines race inspired design and nimble handling with an upright riding position to create a commanding riding experience. A new 1203cc V-Twin engine with approximately 120 horsepower (90 kW) provides an impressively flat torque curve for flexibility and strong acceleration in any gear. The new platform is a key component in the company’s broader mission to expand its global appeal and reach new riders.

“Our vision from the beginning was to be more than a traditional American V-twin brand. We continually seek to broaden Indian Motorcycle’s reach to a wider range of riders, and FTR 1200 represents a significant step forward in that strategy,” said Steve Menneto, President, Indian Motorcycle. “Indian Motorcycle was founded on performance and innovation, and we remain grounded by our founder’s mindset of constantly pushing forward. In light of that history, the FTR 1200 is a natural extension for the brand that we couldn’t be more excited about.”

Built around a trellis frame with a sporty riding position, both models feature an inverted front suspension with radially mounted dual Brembo brakes for exceptional control and stopping power. The fuel tank is strategically located under the seat for a lower center of gravity and more centralised weight distribution. Similar to the FTR750 race bike, the airbox is positioned directly above the engine to optimise airflow and maximise power. Both models feature a similar rear suspension and swingarm design as the FTR750 to not only provide a race bike look, but also ensure maximum grip with a compliant ride. Newly-developed Dunlop street tyres with flat track-inspired tread, a chain final drive, and ProTaper flat tracker aluminum handlebars complete the race bike look.

“This is an extremely exciting platform for us, and after investing such a significant amount of time, expertise and energy in the design process, it’s an incredible feeling to finally show the world these motorcycles,” said Rich Christoph, the Indian Motorcycle Senior Designer who was also instrumental in the design of the FTR750 and FTR1200 Custom. “Our primary focus was to ensure these motorcycles carried the same lines and form language as the FTR750 and 1200 Custom. We knew that’s what riders around the world fell in love with. I couldn’t be more proud to turn the FTR750 into a flat tracker for the street and help launch Indian into a new era.”

Adding to the design is a host of premium features and ride-enhancing technologies. The FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S models both feature full LED lighting, including a new headlight that provides an unmistakable face for the new platform, a fast-charge USB port to easily charge mobile devices and cruise control for a comfortable ride.

Propelling both models is a powerful new liquid-cooled 1203cc V-twin engine making an approximately 120 horsepower (90 kW) and 85 ft-lbs (115 Nm) of torque. A flat torque curve ensures a progressive, predictable power delivery with loads of low-end punch and flexibility. The engine features a 12.5:1 compression ratio, high flow cylinder heads, and dual throttle bodies for optimal throttle response and power delivery. Additionally, the engine makes wide use of magnesium to lower weight and utilises a low-inertia crankshaft that allows the engine to rev to its redline quickly for thrilling acceleration.

The FTR 1200 S features all that and more, including:

– Fully adjustable front and rear piggy-back suspension with preload, compression, and rebound adjustments so riders can perfectly match the bike to their personal riding style

– 4.3-inch customisable Ride Command LCD touch screen with Bluetooth compatibility

– Lean-angle sensitive stability control, ABS traction control, and wheelie mitigation control for improved confidence and control

Three Ride Modes (Sport, Standard, Rain) with unique throttle response traction control intervention levels

The new platform underwent extensive development and testing to ensure it meets Indian Motorcycle’s high quality standards and performs at the highest levels.

“These bikes have gone through a rigorous, multi-year design and testing process to ensure that they perform as good as they look,” explains Ben Lindaman, Indian Motorcycle Senior International Product Manager. “The process was incredibly robust, including over one million miles logged through simulated rides. We also accumulated tens of thousands of test miles on the street with input from racers, including our championship winning Wrecking Crew flat track team and former Grand Prix racers.”

The FTR 1200 is available in Thunder Black with a choice of power variants, a full power (90kW) model or a reduced power (70kW) model which can be restricted further for A2 compliance. The FTR 1200 S is available in Indian Motorcycle Red over Steel Gray, Titanium Metallic over Thunder Black Pearl, and a Race-Replica paint scheme, matching the iconic FTR750 race bike. Both models will begin shipping to dealers in the first half of 2019.

‘Road Runner’ custom Indian Scout Sixty by MotoShed

‘Road Runner’ the aggressive, stripped back Scout Sixty is the first custom Indian Motorcycle from UK bike builders MotoShed and possibly the first Indian Scout with underseat exhausts.

MotoShed’s Road Runner project was born after two members of the group got the opportunity to ride a standard Indian Scout Sixty shortly after it was launched in 2016. They were so impressed with the experience that conversations soon began on how they would like to modify one. “We were blown away by how well the Scout performed but knew we could take it further as well as produce a beautifully finished and unique bike,” say MotoShed. “It was crying out for it and after just a few hours of sharing ideas, the key underseat exhaust idea was born, then we knew we had to do it. We ordered the Scout the next day.”

Since then, the group have spent countless hours in discussion, on planning and over 100 hours of actual work on the bike. Beyond the exhaust, the team had decided on some basic guiding principles for the build; a more aggressive riding position with improved suspension and greater ground clearance. “We could tell the Scout Sixty had a lot of potential, so we really wanted to push the riding experience by dramatically increasing its cornering performance. To match this increased ability, we also wanted to strip the bike back to the essentials for a clean, light-weight appearance, but retaining a factory look.”

Once it had been stripped of all the parts that MotoShed wanted to replace, modify or just eliminate from the final bike, the complexity of the underseat exhaust plan became clearer. “It really was the most complicated part of the build. On the standard bike, there are a lot of important components hidden away under the seat such as the battery, ECU and a lot of wiring. It’s an impressive packaging job by Indian Motorcycle.”

Removing the ABS pump from beneath the bike allowed MotoShed to build a custom battery box in its place. Relocated to the new enclosure were a smaller race-style battery, regulator/rectifier, and ECU all of which required a lot of work to re-route and extend the wiring loom.

With the underseat space clear, work began on routing the pipes round the engine and through the gap. Managing the heat was a big concern and the pipes were wrapped to get more of the heat to the end of the pipes and away from the rider’s legs – with the added bonus of looking great. Additional heat management required the fabrication of a rear hugger/heat shield which also keeps the road dirt away from the exhausts. With such short pipes, one of which is 20% shorter than the other, a Dynojet Power Vision CX system was incorporated to log data and help to perfectly re-map the ECU and fly-by-wire throttle. “It’s fair to say that, right now, it is a bit too loud. It fuels perfectly and the throttle response is excellent but we will be working on making it a bit quieter.”

Changing the riding position to a more aggressive sports stance meant replacing the standard foot controls with rearset Rizoma items mounted to custom plates and complemented with a set of lower Renthal handlebars. The new riding position is much more aggressive tilting the rider forward and the rearsets also increase the cornering clearance. Further improvements to the ground clearance are thanks to the stiffer suspension set-up which holds the bike higher with more controlled compression when cornering.

Whilst the majority of work was undertaken by members of the group, MotoShed also wanted to involve other experts. “The difference between a good custom and a great custom is all in the detail. Having worked in the motorcycle industry for many years, we’ve all made some great contacts with some of the best people in their field, people who can really make all the difference on our projects.”

Experts called in on Road Runner for their specialist skills included: Chris Walton of CW Engineering who hand made the sheet metal elements such as the headlight nacelle, front mudguard and rear hugger and Steve Adams, an ex-Aston Martin upholsterer who re-finished the 1920 Solo Saddle Seat and Illusion Race Paint.

For the hand controls minimalist billet switch gear was chosen with Galfer clutch lever, brake lever and master cylinder the blacked-out theme evolved. Fully adjustable rear suspension from HyperPro was added, while a JB Speaker LED headlight was selected to give a modern sporty twist.

Continuing the attention to detail and to enhance the lightweight, stealth appearance, many covers and panels have been dipped with a carbon fibre look. This gives the ultra-lightweight carbon look but retains all the details of the original component such as the year 1901 on the side cover. Continuing the sporty theme, is a unique carbon fibre water header tank, sourced from a renowned British Superbike team.

Finishing off the blacked-out look, the team also removed the standard forks had them black nitride coated, giving a superbike-aesthetic appearance and adding to the stealth look, while a complete black titanium bolt kit was applied to the engine and chassis also.

With such significant changes to the Scout and with the team’s vision fulfilled of creating a sportier version that retained a factory look, the only thing left to do was to give it a unique identity. And so, the Road Runner themed logo was designed by the team and applied as the finishing touch.

Indian Motorcycle at Glemseck 101 with the FTR750, FTR1200 Custom

Indian Motorcycle provided a spectacular show for the 40,000 visitors to the Glemseck 101 bike festival last weekend. For the first time ever, the FTR750 and FTR1200 Custom both competed in sprint racing together in Germany, heightening anticipation of the production FTR 1200 due in 2019. US star designer Roland Sands piloted the FTR750 and was joined by Indian Motorcycle designer Ola Stenegärd to meet and talk with the fans.

As in 2017, Indian Motorcycle supported the 13th edition of the Glemseck 101 event as the main sponsor, contributing hugely to one of Europe’s largest bike festivals. America’s first motorcycle manufacturer welcomed fans to its large Indian Motorcycle exhibition stand close to the former Solitude race circuit near Leonberg, not far from Stuttgart, flying its banners along the sprint course.

“The feedback we received at Glemseck for the FTR1200 Custom and the FTR750 was impressive,” says Grant Bester, Vice President and General Manager EMEA for Indian Motorcycle. “Both bikes drew crowds and received standing ovations on the race track. We are extremely eager to see the responses to the FTR 1200 production model, which will perfectly combine the strengths of the two bikes it is inspired by.”

Right from the opening of Glemseck 101 on Saturday morning, visitors started flocking into the Indian Tent to get a first-hand experience of the FTR750 and FTR1200 Custom. Indian Motorcycle made its comeback to the American Flat Track Series with the FTR750 last year, after over 60 years of abstinence, and immediately dominated the championship. This year, Indian Motorcycle successfully managed to defend its manufacturer’s and rider’s titles. And for the first time, many FTR750s were also raced successfully by privateer riders.

Indian Motorcycle brought one of the just 60 FTR750 racing bikes to Germany especially for Glemseck 101 – along with a special star of the scene. Designer and racer Roland Sands, who has regularly caused a stir with his various custom builds of the Indian Scout, started in the “Sprint International” open class. On the 1/8-mile dragstrip, the popular star offered fans a spectacular show on the purpose-built flat track racer despite having to concede the top positions to the riders of pure-bred sprint conversions.

In the afternoon, Roland Sands was joined by Ola Stenegärd in the Indian Motorcycle tent on dealers‘ row to sign autographs. As one of the leading minds in motorcycle design around the world for decades, Stenegärd joined Indian Motorcycle in March 2018 as Director of Product Design to leave a lasting mark on the brand’s future models.

The FTR1200 Custom also created a sensation at Glemseck 101 in the “Sultans of Sprint” race in the newly established “Factory Class.” Indian Motorcycle first presented this concept model to the public at the EICMA motorcycle exhibition in Milan last year and gave us a glimpse of what a potential future series model by the brand may look like. In 2018, the manufacturer took its bike on a world tour and collected feedback from fans. The feedback was so overwhelmingly positive that, in June, Indian Motorcycle announced it would be building a production motorcycle inspired by it.

Indian Motorcycle unleashes redesigned & updated Chieftain

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company founded in 1901, today announced a redesigned Chieftain lineup. Since its debut in 2013, the Chieftain has consistently won high marks for handling, power and comfort. Now, for 2019, the Indian Chieftain, Chieftain Dark Horse and Chieftain Limited feature more streamlined, aggressive styling that reflects the bike’s well-established performance capabilities. For those loyal to Indian’s classic designs, the 2019 Indian Chieftain Classic will continue to feature its traditional fairing and iconic valanced front fender.

The redesigned Chieftain lineup continues an evolution that started in 2017 with the introduction of the 10-spoke, 19-inch contrast-cut front wheel and open fender on the Chieftain Limited and Chieftain Elite. The response from customers was overwhelmingly positive, paving the way for this lineup expansion.

“As we continue to evolve the Indian Motorcycle brand, we want to expand our lineup with more aggressive style options, while still maintaining the availability of our more classic style options,” said Reid Wilson, Senior Director for Indian Motorcycle. “What’s most important to us is developing motorcycles that meet a wide variety of customer style preferences, and Chieftain’s new look does just that.”

At first glance of the new Chieftain, riders will notice a restyled fairing and saddlebags with sharper lines and harder edges that give the bike a commanding presence and more streamlined look. A trimmed and slimmed fairing, paired with new fork guards, delivers a streamlined front-end package that’s indicative of the bike’s impressive performance capabilities. The Chieftain’s new, slammed saddlebags with colour-matched fender closeouts also provide the custom-inspired look. While the new Rogue gunfighter seat gives the bike a sleek profile to match the Chieftain’s superior handling and comfort. New badging on the tank and saddlebags and the iconic Indian headdress on the front fender completes the package.

In addition to the styling and design enhancements, the 2019 Chieftain lineup features new ride-enhancing technology for increased performance customisation and rider comfort. For a more customised ride experience, riders can now choose between three Ride Modes  – Tour, Standard or Sport. The throttle map for each Ride Mode was designed with a specific application in mind, resulting in one bike with three distinct personalities. All 2019 Chieftains are also equipped with Rear Cylinder Deactivation for increased rider comfort when the bike is stationary.

Also new for 2019, the Chieftain Dark Horse lineup expands with new paint options, including White Smoke, Bronze Smoke and Thunder Black Smoke. More than just matte-finish body paint, the 2019 Chieftain Dark Horse now features premium black ceramic exhaust and gloss black finishes on the primary cover, valve covers, push-rod tubes, cam cover, and saddlebag hinges for a custom, blacked-out look.

Several enhancements have also been made to Indian Motorcycle’s stock audio system to significantly improve sound quality. First, the tweeters have been separated from the mid-range speakers to optimise sound output and clarity. Second, a dynamic equaliser that’s fully customisable now adjusts specific frequencies at different vehicle speeds to provide peak system performance at all times. As speed increases, the equaliser automatically adjusts each frequency to the optimal level to compensate for road, wind and engine noise. The result is crystal-clear, 100-watts of premium audio at all speeds.

In summary, the 2019 Chieftain lineup packs a host of new features, including:

  • A restyled fairing and saddlebags that reflect Chieftain’s performance capabilities
  • A new Rogue gunfighter seat that enhances the bike’s sleek profile
  • New front and rear turn signals and new badging
  • New ride-enhancing technology that provides a customisable ride experience with three Ride Modes and Rear Cylinder Deactivation for improved rider comfort
  • Enhanced stock, 100-watt premium audio system for crystal-clear sound at all speeds

Also new for 2019, Indian Motorcycle introduces its loudest audio system to date. With PowerBand Audio, riders can choose from audio configurations that are up to 50 percent louder than stock audio. The system is engineered with an integrated amp on speaker and does not require additional amps. The premium audio package is fully integrated with Indian Motorcycle Ride Command so that when PowerBand Audio speakers are installed, Ride Command automatically recognises the upgrade and takes the equaliser from five bands to nine bands with additional pre-set options and volume control. Riders can choose from three kits – PowerBand Audio (fairing upgrade), PowerBand Audio Plus (fairing and saddlebag upgrade) and PowerBand Audio Plus with accessory trunk (fairing, saddlebag and accessory trunk upgrade).

Riders can further customise their Chieftain with a variety of accessories, including custom fit options like extended and reduced reach seats, mid-rise handlebars and reduced reach handlebars. Also available are colour-matched accessories such as Hard Lower Fairings, Saddlebag Audio Lids, a Quick Release Trunk, and for the Chieftain Classic owners, a 10-spoke 19-inch contrast-cut wheel with an open fender can be added to give your bike a custom look.

Indian Motorcycle announces 2019 Chief, Springfield & Roadmaster

New Ride-Enhancing Technology Improves Performance, Comfort, & Audio Quality; Dark Horse Style Updates and Expanded Colour Options Round Out Upgrades for 2019

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company founded in 1901, today announced its 2019 Chief, Springfield and Roadmaster models with new technology designed to enhance and customise the riding experience. Dark Horse models also get darker with premium gloss black finishes and expanded colour options on Springfield Dark Horse.

Developed in direct response to rider feedback, the new technology features focus on improving performance, comfort, and providing more customisability. The new features include:

Selectable Ride Modes
Riders can now choose between three Ride Modes on the fly – Tour, Standard or Sport – for a ride experience that’s customised to their riding style. The throttle map for each Ride Mode was designed with a specific application in mind, resulting in one motorcycle with three distinct personalities. “Tour” mode features a smooth throttle response for relaxed cruising. “Standard” mode features a crisp throttle response and well-balanced power delivery for responsive passing power and predictable, slow-speed handling. And finally, “Sport” mode features an instant throttle response and aggressive power delivery for head-snapping acceleration.

Rear Cylinder Deactivation
To increase rider comfort, all Thunder Stroke® 111 models are now equipped with Rear Cylinder Deactivation. When the engine reaches operating temperature and the ambient temperature exceeds 15ºC, the rear cylinder will automatically deactivate when the bike is at a standstill, resulting in less engine heat for improved comfort in slow-moving or stopped traffic. The rear cylinder instantly reactivates when throttle is applied for a seamless transition to full power.

Improved Airflow on Roadmaster Lower Fairings
The lower fairings on the 2019 Roadmaster have been redesigned and optimised to provide significantly more airflow to the rider. This greatly improves comfort while cruising down the road. The redesigned airflow vent can be adjusted from all the way open for maximum airflow to fully closed for total weather protection. The new lowers can be retrofit to bikes from past model years with the addition of new highway bars.

Enhanced Audio System
Several enhancements have been made to Indian Motorcycle’s stock audio system to significantly improve sound quality. The result is crystal clear, 100-watt premium audio at all speeds.

“These enhancements for 2019 showcase our commitment to listening to riders and continuously improving their experience with our products,” said Steve Menneto, President, Indian Motorcycle. “We are laser-focused on delivering a best-in-class riding experience, and these new technologies represent a focus on quality that will continue long into the future of Indian Motorcycle.”

Also for 2019, Chief Dark Horse and Springfield Dark Horse receive several style updates that further accentuate their mean, custom styling. These models now boast premium gloss black finishes on the engine including the primary, valve, and cam covers, push-rod tubes, as well as on the exhaust and saddlebag hinges.

Springfield Dark Horse is now offered in two colours – Thunder Black Smoke and a new White Smoke option. Also, notable for the 2019 Springfield Dark Horse is the addition of the iconic Indian headdress on the front fender and a 19” contrast-cut wheel. The front highway bars and windshield were also removed to punctuate its sleek, streamlined stance.

Indian Motorcycle offers a wide range of authentic accessories for riders to customise their bike’s style, comfort and storage. Exciting additions to the accessory line will be announced shortly.

Indian Motorcycle announces 2019 Scout lineup

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company founded in 1901, today announced its 2019 Scout lineup with new paint options on Scout Sixty, Scout and Scout Bobber. Also new for 2019, The Scout and Scout Bobber will receive a USB charging port located near the speedometer, a convenient and easy access feature that allows owners to charge a personal device while riding.

“The iconic Indian Scout family is a favourite amongst riders across the globe,” said Reid Wilson, Senior Director for Indian Motorcycle. “Since the addition of the Scout Bobber in July 2017, we’ve continued to evolve our Scout offering to meet the tastes of various riders, whether they prefer the heritage-inspired look of Scout Sixty and Scout or the stripped-down, blacked-out attitude of Scout Bobber. The refinements we’ve made for 2019 and the new paint options accentuate the wide appeal of the Scout line.”

Colour options for the Scout Sixty, which packs a 999 cc, liquid-cooled and blacked-out engine, include Thunder Black, White Smoke, Ruby Metallic and Star Silver over Thunder Black. The iconic Indian Scout, which packs a 1133 cc, liquid-cooled engine that puts out 94 horsepower, is offered in Thunder Black, Deep Water Metallic, Metallic Jade, Indian Motorcycle Red over Thunder Black and Willow Green over Ivory Cream. Rounding out the lineup is the aggressively-styled Scout Bobber, now offered in Thunder Black, Thunder Black Smoke, White Smoke and Bronze Smoke.

For pricing of the 2019 Scout Sixty, Scout and Scout Bobber please ask your country marketing specialist.

For current Scout owners looking to add the benefits of the USB charging port, Indian Motorcycle will now offer a USB Charging Port Kit, which can be installed on any 2015-2018 Scout or Scout Bobber model and any 2016-2019 Scout Sixty model.

Indian Motorcycle offers a full line of Scout touring accessories, including bags, passenger seats, and windscreens. With Indian Motorcycle Accessories, a rider can customise their Scout with reduced and extended reach seats, handlebars and foot controls to achieve the perfect fit.
