Suzuki Live returns for 2023

Suzuki Live will return for 2023, with a full weekend of activity planned at Cadwell Park on 15-16 July, including track sessions, a new adventure bike zone, trade stands and displays, plus special guests.

Spread over both Saturday and Sunday, the event will again bring together track sessions for classic and modern machines, with novice, intermediate, and experienced groups available for pre and post-2000 Suzukis. There will also be a number of classic race bike parades across the two days.

A new adventure bike zone will give V-Strom owners the chance to take their bike off-road, as well as test ride the new V-Strom 1050DE and all-new V-Strom 800DE. The zone – free to enjoy over the weekend – will include expert tuition, a skills area, and a test ride loop through woodland and undulating terrain.

Out on the roads local to Cadwell Park, visitors will be able to test ride other models in Suzuki’s on-road range, including the new GSX-8S, GSX-S1000GT, GSX-S1000, and the iconic Hayabusa.

Joining in the fun will be the likes of three-time British Superbike champion John Reynolds, former National Superstock 1000 champion Taylor Mackenzie, and former 500 Grand Prix racer and British champion Steve Parrish.

Suzuki GB’s head of motorcycle marketing, Ian Bland, said, “Last year’s Suzuki Live event took place in glorious sunshine and was a spectacular day out for us and for everyone that joined. So much so, we couldn’t wait to extend it to a full weekend of track activity, parades, displays, and entertainment., and also add a new adventure bike zone. It’s going to be a full weekend of Suzuki-themed fun, and we’re excited to join our customers on road and track this summer.”

Track day sessions for the full weekend are available for £229, with race bike parade spots costing £199, and both all include camping and evening entertainment on Saturday night, which will feature trophy presentations, lively stories from the star guests, and a live band.

Traders and clubs can also book display space.

Mushman 125cc and 250cc, Rugged. Refined. Ready For Adventure

The Mushman is a scrambler take on the classic Mutt twin-shock bike, kitted out with all new upgrades; starting at the front, there’s the classic 18″ wheel with deep tread knobbly tyres, topped off with a stainless fork brace and an all-new high-rise mudguard mounted on an a combined aluminium headlight and fender mount.

Keeping the front end clean and uncluttered, the Mushman features a new bottom-mount LED headlight along with CNC fork-mounted indicator brackets, giving the pointy end a fresh new look.

But that’s not all, folks. Mutt is all about burly bikes, and the Mushman is no exception. The 15-litre tank and chunkier-than-ever tank pads make it stand out from the pack.

You’ll notice more new additions not found on any other Mutt bikes; not only does it come with matt black engine bars, but also has a beautifully crafted leather and steel tank rack. Both are currently exclusive to the Mushman and come as standard with no additional cost.

The Mushman is the perfect blend of classic and modern. The refined utility of the Mushman is one that not only captures attention, it demands it. Whether you’re cruising through the city streets or tearing up the countryside, the Mushman has your back.

Who better to give the ultimate insider perspective on the Mushman than Mutt co-founder Benny Thomas – Product Director and leader of development. With his unparalleled expertise and vision, no one is better suited to give you the low-down on this new release:

“The inspiration for the styling of the Mushman came from the idea of early scramblers. The simple practice of preparing a road bike for use off road by taking the bulky bits off, fitting knobbly tyres and high-rise mudguards to create a stripped-down bike that does exactly what it says on the box.”

While the Mushman was never intended to be a scrambler, it has the look and the feel of something Mr McQueen would ride between shoots if he was around in 2023.

It’s the ultimate hack-around bike. Lightweight, good looking and perfect for taking on the city or hitting the country lanes.

‘Nothing Fancy’ is the motto for all our Mutts, and I wanted to keep the Mushman simple and classy, but add some fresh new bits and pieces such as the engine bars, tank strap & rack, all-new adjustable CNC levers, and LED indicators and headlamp.”

The Mushman is now available to pre-order, with the 125cc priced at £3,750 + OTR and 250cc priced at £4,600 + OTR. The Titanium Grey models will hit the streets in early March, followed closely by the highly sought-after Limited-Edition Matt Green.

All model variants can be ordered either directly from Mutt Motorcycles or via their network of dealers worldwide.

MUTT MOTORCYCLES – BACKGROUND
BORN IN BIRMINGHAM. FORGED OUT OF PASSION AND OBSESSION.

Born in Birmingham, the historic home of motorcycle manufacture and the birthplace of heavy metal, Mutt Motorcycles was forged out of a passion for motorcycles and an obsession with custom bikes and the custom bike scene. Deeply embedded in custom culture, with many years spent building high-end, one-off customs, founders Benny Thomas and Will Rigg understood that the size, expense, and hassle of finding these bikes made it tough to get into the way of life they loved.

They set their vision – to make motorcycling as accessible as possible without compromising quality or style. The mission was to create a bike that was easy to ride and maintain, affordable to buy and run, yet with the same feel, sound, and attention to detail as a true custom machine. With their experience, they knew they could create something riders could get straight on but with the classic style, strength, and vibe of an authentic custom-built bike.

Applying their tried-and-tested custom-build approach and style to small cc machines, they created a bike with a unique blend of contemporary design and custom heritage. A bike that would encourage more people to get on two wheels and experience the same freedom and escape that only riding a motorcycle gives you.

The connection to the industrial past and the creative legacy of their home city forged their identity and provided the inspiration for the first Mutt bikes. Combining classic style, solid build and power, and a heavy metal sound, they built a one-of-a-kind bike you just had to get your hands on and ride into the sunset. And so, the Mutt was born.

Since those original beginnings, they have continued to expand their range of small-batch, small cc bikes alongside welcoming ever more riders into their growing global fraternity. Staying true to their roots, they still pride themselves on ensuring every bike that goes out of their workshops gets the same attention to detail as the full-on, high-end customs they’ve built over the years.

Super Soco-Vmoto UK Acquired by Manufacturer

UK’s biggest selling electric motorcycle distributor (Super Soco-Vmoto UK) acquired by manufacturer.

The UK’s best-selling electric motorcycle brand, Super Soco (Vmoto) has been strategically bought out by the manufacturer (Vmoto Soco Group), to guarantee long term stability to owners and dealers.

The UK distributor, which has promoted the brand since 2015 to make it synonymous with electric bikes, will now be known as Vmoto Soco UK.

A new range of machines, available from just £1,699, will continue to sell under the Super Soco name, alongside newly introduced premium Vmoto branded models such as the newly launched and well-received ‘Stash’ machine. Additionally, dedicated Vmoto fleet models will further extend the important fleet sales opportunity for delivery bikes.

With electric scooters and lower output motorcycles continuing to grow in popularity, these product ranges of dealer sold and delivery fleet models should bolster this vibrant sector of the UK market.

Vmoto Soco Group Managing Director Mr Charles Chen said, “This is a strategic acquisition that provides Vmoto with direct access to over 50 active B2C dealers in the UK, which is an important EV market for the company and will allow Vmoto to further expand its presence in the UK with an established management team. Direct sales to the B2C dealers will also allow Vmoto to grow the UK market share with more focused support.”

Andy Fenwick, Managing Director, Vmoto UK Distribution Limited commented; “Super Soco has become very well known amongst electric bike fans in the UK and our dealer network has made great strides in building brand confidence, so it is great that the manufacturer itself has invested into the distributor.”

Clive Mann Vmoto Soco UK Sales Director added “This acquisition is a potential game changer for the UK two wheel EV market, allowing for us to push the Vmoto Super Soco as a manufacturer owned brand to the next level. Our aim is for this to benefit all, dealers, the environment and ultimately the end customer, the rider”

The new intercom offers enthusiasts the most innovative communication technologies – such as Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC) connectivity – without sacrificing the unmistakable Ducati red.

The streamlined, antenna-free silhouette makes this intercom aerodynamic, improving comfort, silence and aesthetics, and the magnetic mount for attachment to the helmet simplifies installation. Ducatisti can thus fully enjoy the sights and sensations of any trip without distraction or discomfort, supported by excellent connectivity.

Norton Motorcycles honours Beatrice Shilling

Norton Motorcycles honours Beatrice Shilling with 1938 Norton International at opening of Coventry University building.

Norton Motorcycles has presented its heritage collection 1938 Norton International at the official opening of the Coventry University’s Beatrice Shilling Building.

A pioneering mechanical engineer in both the fields of motorsport and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), in 1934, Beatrice Shilling became one of three women to win the Gold Star at the Brooklands circuit, completing a lap with an average speed of 101mph on her very own Norton M30 500cc.

In her honour, Coventry University has named its new Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Computing building after the famous engineer and motorcycle racer.

The official opening of the building was delayed due to COVID and rescheduled for 8th March on International Women’s Day, as well as what would have been Beatrice’s 114th birthday, and so the celebration of Shilling’s accomplishments within STEM and motorsport is timely.

For the event and to recognise the significance of Shilling’s contributions, Norton presented its 1938 Norton International – a close relation to the Norton M30 – from the heritage collection that usually resides within the foyer of the company’s Solihull headquarters.

The celebration welcomed as special guests Beatrice Shilling’s great-niece Jo Denbury and her daughter Saskia Preston, as well as Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, Co-founder and CEO of Stemettes, the award-winning social enterprise focussed on inspiring and supporting girls, young women and non-binary young people in STEM.

A woman in a man’s world: Life of Beatrice Shilling

1909 – Beatrice Shilling was born in Waterlooville, Hampshire.

1923 – At age 14, Beatrice reportedly bought her first motorcycle quickly learning to strip and rebuild its engine to improve the bike’s performance.

1929 – Having worked on motorcycles throughout her youth, Shilling was keen to pursue this passion and went on to study electrical engineering at The University of Manchester.

1932 – After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, Beatrice stayed on for a further year gaining a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

1934 – A competitive motorcycle racer, Beatrice became one of only three women to win the Gold Star at the Brooklands circuit, finishing a lap with an average speed of over 100mph on her Norton M30 500cc. This was the fastest lap ever to be achieved in her time.

1936 – Unafraid to compete in a male-dominated industry, Beatrice was recruited to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (R.A.E.), writing manuals for aeroplane engines.

1939 – Three years later and Beatrice is promoted to Technical Officer, charged with carburettor research and development. It was at this point, World War II broke out and Beatrice’s expertise became crucial to the war effort. Working closely on the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine used in the Spitfire and Hurricane, Beatrice developed the R.A.E. restrictor to prevent the aeroplane engines from becoming flooded with fuel when entering a steep dive.

1949 – Beatrice was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by King George VI.

1956 – Beatrice joined the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and was elected as an Associate Member. This was in addition to her long-standing membership of the Women’s Engineering Society.

1959 – Following World War II, she turned to racing cars with her husband George, including at Goodwood Members’ Meetings where they scored several high-placed results.

1969 – After retiring, Beatrice received an honorary doctorate from the University of Surrey.

1990 – Beatrice Shilling passed away at the age of 81 leaving a legacy of exceptional contribution to engineering and motor racing.

2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke RR – Limited Numbers, Unlimited Fury

Following the roaring success of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR in 2021, 500 units of the 2023 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR will go into production, promising the same levels of ferocity but with a meaner, darker look.

The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR will once again rip into the Tarmac, leaving a deep, lasting impression as the ultimate limited-edition Hyper Naked motorcycle in the KTM stable. The numbers tell the story – 1,301 cc, 180 hp, 180 kg and 140 Nm, with a phenomenal 1:1 power-to-weight ratio, making it every bit as beastly as its predecessor, but with a darker shadow.

Sporting a gloss black and matt carbon base, contrasting white graphics and striking orange accents, the 2023 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR casts an ominous shadow with menacing intentions. This is further exaggerated with a collection of unique custom-made components which are specific to the RR, adding more aggression and attitude.

With the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR being 11 kg lighter than a standard KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO, it is equally at home decimating lap times as it is carving up mountain roads, providing riders with the ultimate Hyper Naked package.

However, it’s the collection of WP Suspension’s finest components worn by the 1290 SUPER DUKE RR that take it from a backroad brawler to accomplished track day terror. Upfront, a fully adjustable WP APEX PRO 7548 closed cartridge fork has been tailored specifically for the RR, while a custom-made WP APEX PRO 7746 shock takes charge of the rear. The WP APEX PRO 7117 steering damper keeps things in check, offering 30 clicks to dial it into your specification.

Carbon fibre is used extensively, with the subframe also receiving the lightweight carbon treatment, creating a unique single-seat unit. The LED taillights are incorporated into the LED turn signals, as well as KTM’s adaptive brake light as standard.

As an added extra to enforce the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR exclusivity, owners will be presented with a bespoke carbon fibre box containing the keys to their new BEAST.

For the absolute power-hungry, an Akrapovič EVO line full exhaust system is available as an optional extra, which adds even more bite to THE BEAST.

Notable features on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR include:

  • 1:1 power-to-weight ratio
  • WP APEX PRO COMPONENTS Suspension
  • Akrapovič Slip-on exhaust
  • Exclusive carbon fiber bodywork
  • Lightweight lithium ion battery
  • Ultra-lightweight forged wheel
  • Carbon fibre subframe with a single seat
  • New, black CTG
  • Limited to only 500 units
  • Unique, branded carbon key box
  • Factory triple clamp
  • Adjustable CNC-machined rearset

Not only impressive when it comes to hardware, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR boasts the most complete track-orientated electronics pack ever seen on a KTM motorcycle as standard, adding advanced TRACK and PERFORMANCE MODE. While the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR already boasts a full range of exclusive components and bodywork, riders looking for more ferocity can browse a full range of specially developed KTM PowerParts, along with a dedicated range of KTM PowerWear. This includes a custom leather race suit, uniquely finished KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR branding and matching design.

The 2023 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE RR will only be available in Europe and the United Kingdom. Orders open today, 13 March and can only be secured through a select number of authorised KTM dealers.

Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR Review

Maja Kenney of Maja’s Motorcycle Adventures spends a week with the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR with many thanks to Triumph Motorcycles UK

I must admit, the first impression of seeing the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR online when it was launched last year didn’t impress me. The headlight and the front fairing just didn’t do it for me. Seeing that the launch was very track-focused left me even less interested as that’s not the kind of riding I do.

However, when asked if I’d like to test it for a few days I jumped at the chance. Who wouldn’t? I knew it was a fast, high-performance motorcycle and I was keen to see for myself just how justified all the hype around it was.

It was delivered to my house one February morning, the clouds were dark and hanging low and there was rain in the air. The roads were wet and I wasn’t keen to get out on the bike in such conditions. So we spent some time getting to know each other in the garage instead. Whilst the headlight and the front end still didn’t make me stare at it in awe, I sure was smitten by the rest of the bike.

The Crystal White colour is stunning and really works well with the contrasting black frame and carbon fibre components and I really like the shiny speckles added to the paintwork. It almost shimmers in a certain light, especially when a ray of sunshine broke through the cloud when I finally took it out.

Every detail on the bike is well designed. From the smart branding to the pegs and the single-sided swingarm, it all fits together pleasantly on the eye. After a while of having the bike in the garage and riding it, I even started to like the headlight and the fairing around it. I had to admit it’s grown on me.

The LED bright display is tucked under the front screen, it seems slightly on the small side (5”) but once you’re on the bike and riding, the display is well arranged and clear to see. I did spend some time figuring out how to display general information such as total miles on the bike. There are many buttons on each side of the handlebars so I spent some time getting familiar with them.

When I eventually went for a ride I felt a bit intimidated to start with. Partly because the tires fitted to the bike were Pirelli Supercorsas with hardly any grip, partly because of the very aggressive riding position and partly because it’s a 1200 cc sportsbike with 177 bhp which is way more than you need to legally ride on public roads.

The tyres worried me because this was February, the roads had several layers of grit and grease on them and I knew I had to be careful when leaning the bike into a corner.

So I gingerly set off, adjusting my brain to the new riding position. The clip-on handlebars are fairly comfortable and your knees are not exactly around your ears but it is still an aggressive riding position. The seat feels soft and squidgy to the touch but after 20 minutes of riding the bike I sure felt it in my back and my backside.

It didn’t help that I was wearing layers of clothing as the temperature hovered around 5 degrees Celsius and that made the sporty riding position a bit uncomfortable.

Still, I must admit, it put a huge smile on my face as soon as we had gotten comfortable with each other. For the first ride, I opted for a dual carriageway to Chester and a city bimble to meet a friend for lunch on the riverbank. The bike sat happily on the A55 cruising at 70 mph and even the wind wasn’t a problem. The cruise control helps keep the speed steady and it gives your wrist a break, too.

Once we hit the city traffic it rumbled patiently at the lights and stayed at the speed limit running smoothly. The quick shifter worked brilliantly even at low revs. It sure turned a few heads as I parked by the river and enjoyed a delicious lunch.

The bike is keyless and as I’m not used to this, it felt odd at first to walk away without having to remove the keys from the ignition. It took a bit of getting used to working out how to lock the steering. A few days later I spent a good few minutes trying to unlock the steering in a car park and get the engine started, much to the amusement of the elderly couple sitting in their car watching me.

Feeling happier and more confident on the bike, the next ride was a slightly more spirited on one of the wonderful winding roads of the less populated Welsh countryside. The good side of a mid-week February ride means there aren’t many cars around and definitely no bikes so the roads I wanted to ride were quiet. The bike sounds wonderful when you open the throttle and the quick shifter changes the gears up or down so smoothly. Riding into a corner is easy, the bike leans effortlessly and makes you feel faster than you actually are. Or at least that was the case for me.

With the roads greasy I kept the bike in the rain mode. There are 5 riding modes, rain, road, sport, track and rider. The bike is really light and low, too. It weighs less than 200 kg when fully filled up and I can reach the floor easily with my feet flat on the ground. All this means the bike is easy to manoeuvre when stationary, in the garage or when parking in an awkward space.

What a brilliant bike if you are looking for a spirited ride or a road legal track day toy so you can ride there and back, too. It turns heads everywhere you go and it’s a great conversation starter. A capable bike that can be sensible on the road, too. And if you are wondering, I have taken to that retro round headlight and fairing after being around it for over two weeks.

Production of the new Ducati Scrambler begins

Production of the new Ducati Scrambler, already featured in the seventh episode of the Ducati World Première 2023, has begun in the Borgo Panigale plant. A new Ducati Scrambler completely renovated in style and concepts, that maintains the spirit and the original energy that have made this family a worldwide success for over 100,000 enthusiasts. An unmistakable, dynamic, accessible and safe motorcycle for everyday use, with a new captivating and modern design, dedicated to those seeking freedom and wishing to express their lifestyle through their choices.

The production of the first unit was celebrated in the new Finitura e Delibera Estetica building  with an event in perfect Ducati Scrambler style. After the traditional “christening” by CEO Claudio Domenicali, the ceremony was in fact transformed into a party animated by music in which all the employees were able to admire all nine colours of the new Ducati Scrambler as a preview.

The customization possibilities, which have always been a distinctive element of the Ducati Scrambler, go even further with this second generation thanks to the new Icon tank. The coloured portion is a cover that can be easily replaced, as can the mudguards, rim tags and headlamp covers. Thus the look of the Ducati Scrambler can adapt to all tastes with great ease. The three basic colours (’62 Yellow, Thrilling Black and Ducati Red) are joined by another six (Storm Green, Rio Celeste, Tangerine Orange, Jade Green, Sparkling Blue, Velvet Red), available as an accessory kit, to dress up the new Ducati Scrambler Icon in nine different liveries.

Thanks to a weight reduction of 4 kg, the new Ride-by-Wire and the Quick Shift accessory, the Ducati Scrambler offers a more brilliant ride. And it is also safer, more modern, digital and technological thanks to Riding Modes, Ducati Traction Control and the new colour TFT dashboard. All this without betraying that simplicity and authenticity that have always represented essential values for all Ducati Scrambler enthusiasts. Air-cooled Desmodue twin-cylinder engine, trellis frame, wide handlebars, low centre of gravity and fun to ride remain essential features also for the new generation of Ducati Scrambler.

The result of this recipe is three new Ducati Scramblers: Icon, Full Throttle and Nightshift. Three bikes with a different imprint, united by a relaxed riding position and low weight, to offer enthusiasts of all experience and abilities great riding pleasure, both in urban journeys and on trips out of town.

Husqvarna Motorcycles Street Customers Now Offered Lifetime Mobility Cover

Free of charge recovery and breakdown scheme offered after every completed service.

New and existing Husqvarna Motorcycles street model owners in the UK and Republic of Ireland are now offered a new LIFETIME* Mobility Scheme free of charge.

New Husqvarna Motorcycles street model owners already benefit from a 24 month-manufacturer’s warranty, which is accompanied by one year of European-wide LIFETIME Mobility Service free of charge. The new Husqvarna Motorcycles LIFETIME Mobility Service scheme means that each time the machine is serviced at an Authorised Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer, the Mobility Service is automatically extended for up to 12 months or until the next service (either the annual service or the next mileage service, whichever comes first).

Existing eligible Husqvarna Motorcycles street model owners, or purchasers of eligible used Husqvarna Motorcycles street models, can also activate up to a year of Husqvarna Motorcycles LIFETIME Mobility with an applicable service on their used machine, no matter if the machine in question has a lapsed service history or no service history. From used Husqvarna Motorcycles Svartpilen 125 through to Norden 901 models, their owners can return the machine to an authorised Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer, have an applicable service completed on their motorcycle and receive up to 12 months of Husqvarna Motorcycles LIFETIME Mobility Service (also extendable at the next service until the motorcycle is no longer eligible). This comes with the assurance that the Husqvarna Motorcycles owner will have both Mobility Service throughout the UK and Europe – as well as their service being completed by Husqvarna Motorcycles trained technicians.

With the Husqvarna Motorcycles LIFETIME Mobility Service scheme Husqvarna Motorcycles riders have access to a comprehensive, Europe-wide network of service providers and an emergency call centre that is manned 24 hours a day. Covering for breakdown, vandalism, theft, attempted theft or fire, the assistances offered by the scheme for rider and passenger include: repair on the spot, towing, storage, sourcing replacement parts and key service.

In the worst-case scenario that a bike cannot continue, Husqvarna Motorcycles LIFETIME Mobility Service offers, among other features, ‘Trip Continuation’. This covers the costs of the journey for rider and passenger from the place of a breakdown to the planned destination or alternatively to the rider’s place of residence by either, taxi, rental car, train or flight, depending on the distance to the destination – terms and conditions apply.

The Husqvarna Motorcycles LIFETIME Mobility Service is automatically activated free of charge when a Husqvarna Motorcycles street motorcycle completes an applicable service at an Authorised Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer (conditions apply – for single cylinder vehicles: max. 60,000 km or 8 years, whichever comes first; for two cylinder vehicles: max. 80,000 km or 8 years, whichever comes first).

Yamaha Motor the First to Adopt Green Aluminum for Motorcycles in Japan

Yamaha Motor First to Use Green Aluminum in Japanese Motorcycles

– Will gradually adopt low-carbon aluminum in the drive toward carbon-neutral materials –

Yamaha Motor announced today that it has reached an agreement with an aluminum ingot supplier for the procurement of green aluminum, and began using it as a raw material for parts in Yamaha motorcycles in February 2023. This is the first time¹ for green aluminum to be used in Japanese motorcycles and Yamaha Motor plans to gradually expand its usage in models going forward.

“Green aluminum” is aluminum that is refined using renewable energy sources to emit around 60% less CO2 in its manufacture compared to traditionally refined aluminum. Of course, the percentage of less emission by renewable energy depends per manufacturer. Aluminum parts account for 12% to 31%² of the total vehicle weight of a motorcycle, so adopting green aluminum is one effective approach for reducing CO₂ emissions from the raw material manufacturing part of a product’s life cycle (falls under Scope 3 Category 1 emissions for supply chains).

Through the development of its engineering and production technologies and expertise, Yamaha Motor has actively pushed the use of recycled aluminum, which now comprises some 80%³ of Yamaha Motor’s aluminum usage. This introduction of green aluminum is meant to complement this and will be employed for parts that still cannot be manufactured with recycled materials. As a first step, Yamaha Motor will utilize green aluminum for certain parts in its large-displacement and off-road competition motorcycles, and Yamaha Motor plans to expand the number of models using the material in the future as available supply volumes allow.

In line with the Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050, the company is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality⁴ throughout all of its business activities—including its entire supply chain—by 2050. To realize this, Yamaha Motor has set a goal of switching to 100% sustainable materials by 2050, such as adopting more plant-derived resin materials, developing recyclable polypropylene, and adopting green materials and other recycled materials for its motorcycles manufactured in Japan and overseas.

¹: According to a Yamaha Motor survey
²: According to a Yamaha Motor survey
³: Calculated based on the amont of raw material used in 2022 at principal Yamaha Motor factories in Japan and overseas
⁴: Emissions from company activities (Scope 1.2) + Emissions other than Scope 1.2 (Scope 3.)

BMW Motorrad presents the BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept.

BMW CE 04 custom e-scooter from Vagabund Moto GmbH and BMW Motorrad Austria.

While the international customising scene around BMW Motorrad primarily devotes its inspiring creativity, excellent craftsmanship and continuous flow of new ideas to the BMW Motorrad Heritage models R 18 and R nineT, an exceptional project based on the BMW CE 04 has now taken shape in Austria. In collaboration with BMW Motorrad Austria in Salzburg, customising specialist Vagabund Moto GmbH in Graz has created the BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept – a stylish and multifunctional e-scooter based on the BMW CE 04 for urban use.

“Everyone defines the mobility of the future in their own individual way. With the BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept, we now present our own idea of a stylish and multifunctional urban e-scooter that shows just how mobility needs are as individual as each personality. We haven’t reinvented the wheel, but we have taken a new look at function. We call it drawing on the synergies between functionality and aesthetics in a way that is suitable for everyday use,” says Paul Brauchart, founder and managing director of Vagabund Moto GmbH, explaining the philosophy behind BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept.

Accordingly, this made-in-Austria custom e-scooter not only has a particularly attractive colour scheme in white, dark green, beige and black, it also features various functional elements created in a fresh, modern design style and focusing on a youthful target group. For example, a friendly smiley face not only provides a fascinating visual accentuation on the front wheel hub, it also appears on the glass of the indicator lights. What has remained, however, is the impressive technical concept of the BMW CE 04 with key data such as 31 kW (42 hp) maximum output, dynamic acceleration of 2.6 s from 0 to 50 km/h, a range of 130 km (according to WMTC) and a charging time of just 65 minutes from 0% to 80% – with an optional fast charger at maximum charging current.

“With this customising project it was very important to us to emphasise the enormous variability of the BMW CE 04. At the same time, it was to be a vehicle that appeals in particular to young, sporty people in an urban environment and still be suitable for every type of customer. The fresh, modern design of the CE 04 is particularly in keeping with its aspiration to a sporty lifestyle,” adds Oliver Balzer, head of BMW Motorrad Austria.

In keeping with the motto “Action meets Fashion”, the BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept was given a functional top case to supplement the standard storage space, along with a surfboard with a transport system integrated in the vehicle – whether for a trip to the sea or to the nearest lake. “The surfboard isn’t just a piece of sports equipment: it’s also a metaphor for a sustainable urban lifestyle. The BMW CE 04 Vagabund Moto Concept combines work, leisure and individual flair, demonstrating that there needs to be no contradiction between any of these areas,” concludes Oliver Balzer.

The Multistrada V4 Rally is the ideal travelling companion, designed to be easy and intuitive also in off-road use, with greater comfort for rider and passenger and an increased range compared to the Multistrada V4. The ultimate bike to satisfy the most tireless motorcyclists and accompany them on their great adventures without stopping at anything. Also, the perfect bike to learn the techniques of off-road riding, and enjoy to the max the emotions of touring far from tarmac roads.

The DRE Adventure format is characterised by a wide-ranging programme that includes practice sessions alongside an evocative tour through the countryside where it is possible to appreciate the dynamic characteristics of Ducati motorbikes on different terrains. Thanks to high-level teaching, the course aims to provide riders with the opportunity to discover the secrets of the adventouring world : from the correct position on the bike, to learning the most effective off-road riding techniques, through to technical and logistical advice in preparation for the trip and the management of any unforeseen events that may arise during the ride. Furthermore, thanks to the extensive customisation options for saddle and suspension, with different raised and lowered solutions, each of the bikes used in the DRE Adventure courses is tailored to the physique of each participant.

All DRE Adventure events are based in the stunning location of Castello di Nipozzano, in the province of Florence. Owned by the family of the Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi, this castle is a perfect place to enjoy a complete experience, combining the pleasure of riding on the roads of Tuscany with its breathtaking views and the opportunity of discovering the excellent local food and wine. The DRE Adventure programme is spread over two days. The first day is dedicated to establishing contact with the bike and carrying out technical exercises to gain confidence in off-road riding, while the second day includes a tour with both on- and off-road stretches, which immediately puts the riders in a position to put into practice what they have learned on the course.

A team of excellent instructors has always been one of the strong points of the DRE formats.
