Ducati Presents the Limited and Numbered XDiavel Nera Edition

Ducati Presents the Limited and Numbered XDiavel Nera Edition: “Elegance. Unlimited.”

The partnership between two brand ambassadors of Made in Italy in the world like Ducati and Poltrona Frau has led to the creation of a fascinating project: the Ducati XDiavel Nera. The bike was presented to the public in the seventh episode of the Ducati World Première web series

The XDiavel Nera project comes to life from the values shared by the two companies: the passion for design, craftsmanship tradition, the use of cutting-edge technologies and an aptitude for innovation. The result is a motorcycle that is unique in its character and aesthetics, which communicate Italian design, and it will be produced in a numbered edition limited to 500 units.

Andrea Ferraresi, Director of the Centro Stile Ducati:  “The XDiavel Nera project was born from the encounter between two Italian excellences. Ducati and Poltrona Frau are two brands with a unique history, they share a passion for beauty and well-made objects, they are strongly Italian and make craftsmanship a distinctive element, always supporting it with sophisticated technological solutions and the use of high-quality materials. The XDiavel Nera perfectly summarizes the values that unite Ducati and Poltrona Frau. It is a unique motorcycle with an unmistakable identity, a splendid expression of the excellence of Made in Italy “.

Poltrona Frau is a leading company in high-end furniture and an ambassador of Italian excellence all over the world. The collaboration with Ducati, introduced with the Ducati Scrambler Club Italia project, benefits from the experience gained over the years by the Interiors in Motion area of Poltrona Frau. The Interiors in Motion Business Unit specializes in the creation, construction and supply of distinctive leather interiors in the premium automotive, aviation, rail transport and offshore navigation sectors.

Giovanni Maiolo, Poltrona Frau Interiors in Motion Business Unit Director: “There is great satisfaction for the work done together with Ducati on the XDiavel Nera. We are proud to be part of this 100% Italian project that has fascinated us from the very beginning and has given us the opportunity to once again demonstrate our know-how and our ability to design in co-design projects by combining innovation and craftsmanship.”

The new XDiavel Nera is characterized by the “Black on Black” livery in which gloss and matt black portions alternate. This livery makes the XDiavel even sportier and is also reflected in a dedicated jet helmet, which owners of XDiavel Nera can order together with the bike. The bike is also enriched by some style details that enhance its aesthetics, such as the brake calipers and engine head covers in Ducati Red colour and the lightened and fully machined forged rims, painted in gloss black.

The most recognizable part of the XDiavel Nera is the special seat made of Pelle Frau®: a soft natural leather saddled by hand, the result of years of research by Poltrona Frau. It is available in five different colours (Siam Red, Steel Blue, Cemento, India and Selva) and is customized with a series of “X” engraved through a sophisticated laser process, which recall the name of the bike.

Ducati XDiavel is a motorcycle with a strong personality that focuses heavily on the concept of individualization. In this project, the possibility of customization is expressed through the choice of preferred colour for the seat, to which are added a wider comfort saddle and a backrest, also in Pelle Frau® leather, suitable for travelling in two without sacrificing style.
The 500 Ducatisti enthusiasts who order XDiavel Nera will also receive an exclusive key ring and document holder made of Pelle Frau® leather in the matching colour to the one chosen for the saddle.

XDiavel is the result of a crossover between two apparently different and distant universes. On the one hand, the relaxed pace at low speed typical of the Cruiser world and on the other the sporty riding and exciting performance of Ducati. The perfect expression of this mix is given by the characteristics of the  Testastretta DVT 1262 engine which, in combination with the final belt drive, ensures smooth delivery at low revs and a full curve up to the highest revs. The Testastretta DVT 1262, clearly visible in the centre of the bike, in Euro5 configuration delivers a maximum power output of 160 hp at 9,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.0 kgm at 5,000 rpm.

The chassis of the bike, the reduced height from the ground of the saddle (755 mm) and the forward position of the footpegs are designed to offer great riding ease and comfort when travelling at low speed in complete relaxation and, at the same time, maximum fun in sporty riding. The combination of the tubular steel trellis frame, the front and rear suspension and the chassis dimensions allows agility and controllability of the front axle, guaranteeing surprising handling.

XDiavel Nera is equipped at the rear with a 240 mm wide tyre  mounted on a rim with an 8” channel that makes the bike easily recognizable from any angle, becoming a highly distinctive style element. The particular profile of the tyre also allows a maximum lean angle of 40°, an unthinkable value for a motorcycle of this type. The braking system is powerful and modular and is equipped, like the whole Ducati range, with ABS Cornering. At the front it features Brembo monobloc M50 calipers and two 320 mm discs, while at the rear we can find a single 265 mm disc.

The lighting system is full-LED with a DRL daytime running light system on the front that is easily recognizable and of great visual impact. XDiavel Nera is equipped with Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which, by dynamically measuring the roll and pitch angles as well as the speed of the relative set-up variations, provides the information to ABS Cornering. This system, together with Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Riding Modes, Cruise Control and Ducati Power Launch (DPL), make the XDiavel Nera a technologically advanced, high-performance and safe motorcycle. The electronic equipment is completed by the two-level dashboard with colour animation TFT screen and dedicated key-on, in addition to the hands-free system, to be able to use the motorcycle with the key in your pocket or bag.

The individualization of the XDiavel also includes completely customizable ergonomics thanks to the adjustable footpegs in three positions, or through the choice of Ducati Performance accessories that best suit your needs, including handlebars of different shapes and rearward footpegs compared to the standard or centrally located ones.

The XDiavel Nera can already be ordered with the seat in the preferred colour and will be available in dealerships in the Ducati network starting from March 2022. It fits into the Ducati XDiavel range alongside the essential XDiavel Dark and the sporty XDiavel S.

Yamaha announce Ténéré 700 World Raid

Yamaha announce Ténéré 700 World Raid: Fuel your life with a New Horizon.

Forty years ago the original XT600 Ténéré made real adventure a possibility for everyone. Developed from Yamaha’s Dakar race bikes, the first Ténéré literally opened up a new world for any rider with the desire to get away from the ordinary, escape from their comfort zone and see new faraway places.

Since the 1980s many thousands of riders have chosen the Ténéré as their long distance travel companion. During this time Yamaha’s original adventure bike has continuously evolved, and more recently the introduction of the Ténéré 700 has inspired a new generation of riders to chase the Next Horizon.

In a very short period of time the Ténéré 700 has earned the respect of riders all over the globe who appreciate its high torque CP2 engine, versatile chassis and unrivalled durability and reliability. It is a worthy successor to the original bike that changed motorcycling forever, and in just a few years it has become the model of choice for a diverse group of riders who value the accessibility and freedom that it offers. It’s also shown its incredible versatility in the hands of legendary names such as multiple round the world rider Nick Sanders through to extreme enduro legend Pol Tarrés.

Following the huge success of the Ténéré 700 and the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition, Yamaha are now ready to launch the ultimate long distance Yamaha adventure bike that is designed to offer a whole new world of possibilities to everyone who has the spirit of adventure within their soul.

New Ténéré 700 World Raid: Fuel your life with a New Horizon
The Ténéré 700 was just the beginning. Now Yamaha is about to open up a new dimension in adventure riding with the latest Ténéré 700 World Raid – a premium long distance motorcycle that offers excellent on/off road ability combined with outstanding versatility and an enjoyable riding character.

This third member of the Ténéré 700 family brings so much to the world of motorcycling by giving all kinds of riders the chance to live out their dreams. The world has changed dramatically in the last few years, and this motorcycle gives everyone the chance to rediscover the freedoms that were taken for granted.

Equipped to go further than any previous Ténéré, and featuring the most advanced specification that includes state-of-the-art suspension for added confidence and comfort, improved ergonomics, rally-inspired styling and multi-mode instruments with incoming call and text message notifications, the Ténéré 700 World Raid is a motorcycle that can make the world seem a much smaller place.

Twenty-three-litre capacity dual side-mounted fuel tanks
The Ténéré 700 World Raid is Yamaha’s most extreme long distance adventure bike with the ability to go further than ever before. Adventure riders are fearless characters who are always looking for the next challenge, but the one thing that’s always at the back of every long distance rider’s mind is the availability of fuel in a remote environment.

The new 23-litre dual side-mounted fuel tanks are designed to bring peace of mind on the longest trip and eliminate the range anxiety that every rider has experienced when the reserve light starts to flash. In typical usage conditions these new tanks are estimated to be able to give a range of up to 500 km, giving a higher level of autonomy that makes the Ténéré 700 World Raid a master of the wilderness.

The unique twin side-mounted design offers a number of significant advantages compared to simply making the tank higher and wider in order to increase its capacity. By having two separate tanks that are positioned lower, and locating the fuel pump in a lower position in one of the tanks, the bike’s centre of gravity can be kept almost the same as with the existing Ténéré 700 that has a 16-litre tank – helping to maintain agile handling despite the increased weight of a larger fuel load.

The vehicle mass is further centralised, with an ideal weight distribution between front and rear.

An important feature of this new layout is that the highest point on the new twin side-mounted tanks is lower than the top of the tank on the Ténéré 700, reducing the height difference between the tank and seat to give a much flatter profile for increased rider mobility and easier front/rear weight shifting when riding off road.

Another benefit of this dual tank design is that the movement of the fuel is limited, compared to a one big tank layout and this gives benefit especially while cornering. And finally, the Ténéré 700 World Raid’s dual side-mounted fuel tanks are not only a reminder of the bike’s desert rally heritage, but are also clear evidence of the DNA this new adventure model shares with some of Yamaha’s most successful factory race bikes.

Flat seat for improved rider agility
As well as the reduced height of the new dual tank design, the Ténéré 700 World Raid also benefits from a new 890 mm high seat that gives a much flatter profile for a smoother transition between the seat and tank. This design enables the rider to move backwards and forwards with minimal effort when shifting their body weight to maintain control on rough terrain, and the new ergonomics are suited to both sit down and stand up riding positions.

The seat’s two-piece design allows for the easy removal of the rear section to enable the fitment of accessories such as a rack or luggage. The seat is made from two different kinds of leather, with a high grip zone in the centre and a smoother zone that enables freedom of movement while riding.

Five-inch colour TFT meter with mobile connectivity
The new 5” colour TFT meter is linked with the bike’s Communication Control unit (CCU) which talks to the MyRide app, giving connectivity in the form of text message and incoming call notifications that are displayed on the instrument panel – and mobile battery status is displayed as soon as a connection is established.

This connectivity and the ability to identify any technical issues that need rectifying provide added peace of mind and reassurance to adventure riders, especially when they are taking part in long distance trips in unfamiliar territory.

Access to the relevant information is crucial on every long distance expedition, and Ténéré 700 World Raid riders can choose from three different themes on the new 5” colour TFT meter.

The ‘Explorer’ screen layout features a modern digital design that provides all of the machine’s key running data in a contemporary and easy to read style. The ‘Street’ screen features a tachometer with a circular dial and needle that give a more conventional look from the analogue era, and the ‘Raid’ screen is inspired by a typical rally racing roadbook and features two independent countdown tripmeters that enable the rider to see the distance to the next waypoint.

Located to the right of the dashboard area there is a USB type A socket that can power navigation systems or charge mobile devices.

Three-mode on/off road ABS
For optimal controllability in varying riding conditions the new Ténéré 700 World Raid is equipped with three-mode ABS that can be selected when the bike is stationary, via a specific menu available in the meter, operated by the right handle switch. Mode 1 is fully on, with both wheels benefitting from ABS as required legally while riding on public roads. Mode 2 and 3 have been introduced for non-public roads riding. In detail, Mode 2 (new function developed for Ténéré 700 World Raid) is front wheel on, rear wheel off, and this is the recommended mode for terrain such as gravel tracks, where low levels of grip are likely to be experienced. Mode 3 is fully off, suitable for experienced riders who want to enjoy pure off road riding.

The instrument panel shows when Mode 2 and Mode 3 are active, and the rider can return immediately to Mode 1 at any time when moving or standing still by pressing a button on the left side of the instrument panel.

High specification 43 mm KYB front forks, 230 mm travel
For refined off road handling performance the suspension system on the Ténéré 700 World Raid features a number of significant upgrades. Newly designed 43 mm KYB front forks give 230 mm of wheel travel – 20 mm more than the Ténéré 700 – offering increased shock absorption potential on rough terrain. The new forks are equipped with a spring preload adjuster, in addition to the rebound and compression damping adjusters and air bleeding screw already featured on the Ténéré 700, enabling the rider to set the suspension to suit different terrain and loads.

For increased durability with reduced internal friction, the longer travel 43 mm front forks feature a resilient Kashima coating applied on outer tube, with a distinctive dark bronze colour, while lightweight fork internal components are used in order to minimise weight, despite the longer stroke.

Öhlins steering damper
For better controllability – particularly in off road riding situations – an Öhlins steering damper is fitted as standard equipment. Mounting position is close to the top triple clamp, allowing the rider to quickly adjust the unit to his preferred levels of feel and feedback on a variety of terrain, thanks to 18 different damping settings.

Full spec aluminium piggyback rear shock, 220 mm wheel travel
The rear suspension has also been upgraded to match the new front forks, and features a revised linkage design with a piggyback type shock absorber with longer stroke. The rear suspension’s damping characteristics, spring rate and linkage ratios have all been optimised in order to give a comfortable ride on the road together with the ability to take some hard hits during off road exploration.

For consistent damping performance the new shock features an aluminium body for good heat dissipation, while the separate piggyback type oil reservoir prevents cavitation – and like the forks, the new shock gives 20 mm more wheel travel, and is fully adjustable for spring preload, as well as compression and rebound damping.

A new rubber bumper has been introduced as well to increase performance on energy absorption in case of bottoming.

High-torque EU5 CP2 engine
Yamaha’s iconic 689 cc liquid-cooled in-line two-cylinder engine is the driving force behind the new Ténéré 700 World Raid. Featuring a 270° crankshaft that gives it a characteristic uneven firing sequence, this ‘crossplane concept’ CP2 engine is renowned for its strong linear torque output as well as its ultra-responsive and easily-controllable performance that makes it so enjoyable and rewarding to ride at all speeds.

Compact dimensions and low weight make the CP2 unit ideal for the demands and requirements of adventure riding – and with a linear torque delivery providing plenty of low to mid-range pulling power, this rugged, reliable and economical engine is particularly suited to the varied on and off road terrain typically encountered by adventure riders. Already proven with the best-selling Ténéré 700, this engine is one of Yamaha’s most legendary powerplants, with more than 221,000 CP2-engined units sold since introduction.

Ténéré 700 air cleaner box
The Ténéré 700 family has a new air cleaner box, specifically designed to handle the extreme off road terrain that this long distance adventure bike is built for. The Ténéré airbox has been equipped with a forward-facing intake duct that is designed to prevent ingress of dust and debris thrown up by the rear wheel.

Higher windscreen, easy-to-remove side deflectors, LED flashers and front cowling
For additional wind protection on long distance adventures the bike is fitted with a 15 mm taller screen with easy-to-remove side deflectors, and LED flashers are original equipment.

The front panels surrounding the radiator and the interior panel around cockpit area are manufactured from tough fibre glass composite material. These are designed to be able to handle rugged off road riding.

Larger footrests
Yamaha’s designers have developed the Ténéré 700 World Raid to the highest specification without compromise.

New larger footrests underline this close attention to detail. The larger surface area gives greater grip for the rider’s boots, and also reduces pressure on the soles when riding on extreme terrain. A larger surface area also prevents mud and sand build up, and the removable rubber inserts improve the boot/peg stability in wet conditions.

By removing the rubbers inserts, the footpegs become rally-race oriented components, in terms of look and performance.

New three-piece aluminium engine guard
For increased protection when riding off road, the bike is fitted with a new three-piece aluminium engine guard that helps to prevent accidental damage caused by rocks, stones and any other debris. Thanks to new suspensions with longer stroke, ground clearance is 250 mm.

New radiator grille
To ensure that the radiator maintains its high levels of cooling efficiency during off road riding, a new radiator grille is fitted. Featuring vertical louvres like Yamaha’s off road competition models, this new grille is designed to protect the radiator from debris thrown up by the front wheel.

Akrapovic silencers form Performance accessory pack for Suzuki Hayabusa

Suzuki has launched a new Performance accessory pack for its Hayabusa hypersport machine, which comes with an RRP of £2,599, representing a saving of £1,112 over the cost of the individual items.

The standout accessory in the kit is a pair of titanium Akrapovič silencers, which save a total of 4kg and boost power by 2kW, as well as enhancing the soundtrack. Capped with a carbon fibre tip and featuring a carbon fibre heat shield, the silencers are finished with a classy, laser-etched Akrapovič and Hayabusa logos.

Billet aluminium brake and clutch levers replace the original items, with extra style coming from a colour-coded pillion seat cowl, an accessory seat with Hayabusa logo and red stitching, plus a tank pad also adorned with a Hayabusa logo in a choice of gold or red, to suit the bike’s colour.

The Performance accessory pack can be fitted at the time of purchase, meaning it can also be incorporated into any finance deal, spreading the cost monthly, and benefits from the same three-year-warranty.

With an RRP of £16,499, the third generation Hayabusa uses a heavily redesigned engine – including new pistons, conrods, crankshaft, and camshaft – specifically aimed at producing enhanced performance in the lower to mid rev ranges, making it the fastest-launching Hayabusa yet with more cumulative torque than its predecessor.

It gets Suzuki’s most advanced suite of electronics ever, with 10 lean angle-sensitive traction control modes, lean angle-sensitive ABS, three power modes, a bi-directional quickshifter, cruise control and a speed limiter, and three stages of launch control, all controlled via easy-to-use switchgear and managed through a neat colour TFT display, nestled between two analogue dials reminiscent of the original Hayabusa’s clocks.

Design cues from the original also extend to the bodywork, which is sharper and more angular but nonetheless immediately recognisable as Hayabusa.

PROJECT TE-1 – PHASE 3 OUTCOMES
Demonstrator Prototype
Triumph Motorcycles
The Triumph TE-1 team began phase 3 by successfully building an initial mule bike which incorporated the battery, inverter, motor, and chassis into one machine for the first time. Using this platform, all of the project partners worked collaboratively to optimise software integration across the complex systems, involving hundreds of hours of detailed testing to ensure the functionality of all the features and software aspects behave accurately and intuitively, as a customer would expect. This was validated in real life simulation work carried out at WMG, involving detailed powertrain rig testing and simulations to assess safety critical items relating to motor function and vehicle control. Durability testing on the primary transmission has also been conducted to ensure a full understanding of the fundamental differences in electric motor load application for vehicle use cases, efficiency, and consequences to gear life. Alongside this work, the Triumph-led design of the bespoke chassis has focused on delivering the phase 2 styling intent as closely as possible. Phase 3 of the project is now complete with the fully assembled TE-1 demonstrator prototype, the photographs of which are revealed for the first time today.

Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer said “During phase 3 we have focused on building the physical foundation of Triumph’s first electric prototype motorcycle. I am pleased with the outcome of Triumph and the TE-1 partners’ efforts in creating a demonstrator bike that is not only visually so desirable with clear Triumph DNA, but also packaged with an exhilarating and thrilling brand-new electric powertrain that has such potential for the future. I look forward to continuing the development of this demonstrator vehicle through phase 4 and using our knowledge and capabilities to bring all of the partners’ cutting-edge technology together into a final result which will guide Triumph’s electric strategy for the future. Our experience tells us that at this stage of a project there is no substitute to genuinely riding a bike when developing driveability, handling and character, and we have ambitious targets focused on delivering a riding experience that is new and exciting, but ultimately intuitive and familiar. I am really looking forward to my first opportunity to ride the completed prototype.”

Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE)
Following completion of Phase 2 of the programme in March 2021, which delivered a fully bench tested battery, Williams Advanced Engineering have now concluded work on Phase 3 which contained some critical gateways for the project.

In addition to supporting a number of hardware and software solutions; specifically integrating Triumph’s motorcycle control software to work in harmony with WAE’s controller and battery management system, the team have enhanced the integration of the mechanical and electrical solutions; optimising battery layout to balance mass and positioning within the chassis.

The demonstrator bike is now undergoing final battery level validation and calibration to ensure the performance results meet best-in-class power and energy density targets and for the rider, ensuring there is no compromise in performance at low levels of charge.

“Following an extended period of testing, we are thrilled to finally see the results of our work on a physical bike. By working with the team at Triumph, we have continued to push the boundaries of battery technology, keeping the rider in mind at all times” said Dyrr Ardash, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Williams Advanced Engineering “Because we have designed the battery from the ground-up, design has not been compromised and we have been able to push the boundaries of current technology, offering both performance and all important, range”.

Integral Powertrain Ltd.’s e-Drive Division
“We are absolutely delighted to complete our part in this project and deliver what we set out to achieve which is a scalable, ultra-highly integrated motor and inverter, with no phase cables, busbars, or separate cooling circuits. For the TE-1 application, the motor achieves peak and continuous power densities of 13 kW/kg and 9 kW/kg respectively which is 60% higher than new APC technology roadmap targets for 2025. All of this has been achieved using materials and processes compatible with volume automotive production and importantly using a length scalable motor platform.

“The inverter concept, which is also scalable by tuning the number of Silicon-Carbide power stages for different diameter motors, has really delivered on performance. The TE-1 unit is capable of >500kW! This gives us the opportunity to optimise this platform for production.

“The integrated motor and inverter unit is now on the bike and is delivering on the target performance and cycle efficiency we engineered, modelled and simulated to achieve. We’re very much looking forward the feedback from bike-level testing and the benefits of our high efficiency on range.

“We’re really proud to have been a key part of this exciting project which has been a landmark for electric motorcycles and British industry.” Andrew Cross, Chief Technical Officer at Integral Powertrain Ltd.

WMG, University of Warwick
“WMG have been working closely with Triumph to support the development of the motorcycle control unit via a comprehensive real-time evaluation process using two bespoke physical rigs. A 3D physical motorcycle model has been created and integrated with the first rig to allow the evaluation and refinement of the control unit under real-world driving scenarios, ensuring it behaves well before the integration into the initial prototype bike. The second rig has been utilised to support Triumph in evaluating the power and energy performance of the whole drivetrain as well as confirming its durability. We have also focused on control research and development at other levels, including advanced traction control and optimal brake blending strategies. The findings in energy system modelling, simulation and control, especially real-world case studies with electric motorcycles, gained through this TE-1 project have been utilised to develop teaching materials on energy systems, hybridisation and electrification technologies across education programmes at WMG.” Truong Quang Dinh, Associate Professor of Energy System Management and Control at WMG, University of Warwick.

“WMG have also been helping Triumph understand the opportunities and wider implications of electrification towards their business. This has included investigating the opportunities for electric two-wheeler charging networks, the need for domestic electric motorcycle recycling, the necessity to develop local battery supply chains and the direction that Triumph will need to take to ensure that they can design, develop, manufacture and distribute electric two-wheeled vehicles in the future. The findings from these studies are also providing direction to national and local governments, specifically around areas where policy intervention can support electric motorcycle adoption.

“In many studies undertaken by WMG, bespoke computer-based models developed at the university (such as the university’s own UniWarp software), have been instrumental in understanding the best possible direction or action required for different scenarios. This approach has enabled WMG to quantify the environmental impact of electric motorcycles and has defined methods by which this can be further improved through new vehicle features, vehicle system sizing or new external collaborations.” Jim Hooper, Principal Engineer of Electric Vehicle Projects at WMG, University of Warwick.

2022 KTM 890 Duke R – The Super Scalpel Gets a Sharp New Look

The KTM 890 DUKE R slices into the new model year with the all-new Atlantic Blue base colour lifted directly from its big brother, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R.

Having been around since 2020, the KTM 890 DUKE R has proven itself to be the undisputed champion in the middleweight segment. Boasting an impressive 121 HP and 99 Nm of torque, it represents as a serious option for race-centric riders looking for agility, punch, and poise.

The KTM 890 DUKE R is dubbed THE SUPER SCALPEL on account of its lightning-fast steering geometry. Thanks to the load-bearing design of its tubular steel chassis and adjustable WP APEX suspension, it remains a no-compromise middleweight naked bike, equally at home on twisty mountain passes as it is on the racetrack, delivering more power, more torque, and more intense asphalt-carving agility than any other parallel twin in the segment.

While its forward momentum and agility are exemplary, the KTM 890 DUKE R also excels when slowing down. Front monoblock Brembo Stylema calipers grabbing meaty 320 mm discs on the front, along with an adjustable Brembo MCS master cylinder, mean that THE SUPER SCALPEL stops as quickly and precisely as it attacks apexes. A set of sticky Michelin Power Cup 2 tyres provides reliable grip on all asphalt surfaces in all weather conditions.

In terms of electronic wizardry, the KTM 890 DUKE R makes use of Cornering ABS and Cornering MTC (motorcycle traction control) with a 6D lean angle sensor that not only detects the side-to-side (roll) and forwards and backward (pitch) movements of the bike, but also the rotation of the bike on its vertical axis (yaw). This translates into comprehensive traction control management, accomplished by the use of a wheel slip control sensor and a pitch angle control sensor.

A selection of ride modes—namely RAIN, STREET, SPORT, and optional TRACK mode—ensure full rider customisation, nine levels of adjustable traction control slip, anti-wheelie on/off, and the additional throttle control setting.

The biggest difference is obvious: the KTM 890 DUKE R now features a premium hue of matt paint. Called ‘Atlantic Blue’, the color is reminiscent of the palate used on the KTM RC16 GP racer and recently the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, adding to THE SUPER SCALPEL’s READY TO RACE demeanor. Typical of all KTM ‘R’ models, the signature orange frame continues to provide the perfect contrast of colors while strengthening the READY TO RACE presence.

With its new look to match its performance and character, the KTM 890 DUKE R once again promises to be a track-ready machine you’ll want to ride every day.

As always, a full range of specially created KTM PowerParts has been developed to personalize and further intensify your ride. A range of KTM PowerWear ensures the rider gets the most out of themself and boosts their READY TO RACE performance.

The 2022 KTM 890 DUKE R will arrive on authorized KTM dealer floors from February 2022 onwards. For more information, visit ktm.com.

RefrigiWear x Scrambler Ducati, which comes about from a partnership between the two brands, presents a unisex capsule collection with a dual brand that combines the passion for two wheels with a fashion attitude, embracing the streetwear nature of RefrigiWear and the self-expression of Ducati Scrambler.

All models are meticulously detailed and  characterized by the RefrigiWear x Scrambler Ducati mash-up logo.

The aesthetic impact of the garments is decisive and recognizable, the design stands out thanks to the dynamism of the pattern inspired by street culture. The predominant colours are ochre yellow or military green combined with black, colours that have always identified the two protagonists.

Female Motorcyclists Set To Break World Record With Triumph Motorcycles

Moto Advisor, a Facebook group for UK motorcyclists, is attempting to beat the existing record for the world’s largest female biker meet.

Taking place on 24th July 2022, the world record attempt will be held at the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience in Hinckley, Leicestershire, the global headquarters of Triumph Motorcycles.

Nimi Patel, keen motorcyclist and co-founder of Moto Advisor, initially founded a group called South East Link Up, as the group quickly grew popular amongst the online female biking community, Nimi was curious to see how many female bikers could gather together on a larger scale.

In 2015, Nimi and fellow motorcyclist Sherrie Woolf achieved a world record for largest number of all-female riders at a single bike meet. The event took place at the iconic biker’s hang-out, The Ace Café, London, where 618 female riders gathered to break the record. In following years, record attempts have been made globally in Australia and the USA, however the current record still remains in the UK with 1,132 female riders who met at single bike meet in Shropshire in 2017.

The initiative aims to bring women together as a growing target for the motorcycle industry, with the goal of encouraging the development of a wider range of products suitable for female riders and to inspire others to live their passion.

Sherrie Woolf, Moto Advisor, said: “We are keen to show the motorcycle industry that the female market is financially worthwhile catering to. There are over 300,000 female motorcycle licence holders in the UK alone. We also want to encourage and support more women to enjoy riding and get involved in all aspects of biking; from road riding, track days, off-roading, rallies, stunting, touring and anything else that is possible on two-wheels. The social aspect and kinship of the biking community is special, whether male or female, turning up to an event alone, you are guaranteed to leave with lots of new friends.”

Annually in the UK there are 4,900 theory test passes and 3,100 module two test passes and the number of female motorcyclists is set to constantly increase. The average age of women passing their test has fallen, with the largest pass rate currently being within the 21 – 39 age brackets, which shows that a new generation of females are being introduced to the world of motorcycling (data shared by MCIA).

In addition to the impressive world record attempt, the Hinkley-based event will include live music, clothing and apparel stands, refreshments and a raffle; the proceeds of which will be donated to the local Air Ambulance Service and Blood Bikers.

Moto Advisor together with Triumph Motorcycles are looking forward to welcoming thousands of female riders to the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience to attempt a new world record.

2022 Honda CB300R

2022 HONDA CB300R

Honda’s CB300R Neo Sports Café lightweight gains 41mm Showa ‘Separate Function front Fork Big Piston’ (SFF-BP) USD forks, plus an assist/slipper clutch and EURO5 compliance for its 286cc liquid-cooled engine. Specification includes radial-mount 4-piston front caliper, floating disc, IMU-controlled ABS and preload adjustable monoshock. Full LED lighting complements a smartly updated LCD display.

2022 HONDA CB300R
  1. Introduction

Strip motorcycling down to its bare essentials and often less equals more. Honda has long understood this, and for 18YM created the CB300R. Part of the Neo Sports Café family – which includes the flagship CB1000R, A1 licence-friendly CB125R and recently updated CB650R four cylinder middleweight – it distils all of the excitement of two wheels into lightweight form.

Representing a major stepping-stone for any young or new rider, the CB300R is very much a first ‘big’ bike after a 125cc machine, offering as it does engaging response and sensations from both engine and chassis without the weight, cost and licence implications of a larger capacity motorcycle. It’s also a great introduction to Honda, with the brand’s engineering prowess, design philosophy, premium equipment and high build quality firmly on display. Conversely, the CB300R also offers an attractive proposition for experienced riders looking to downsize.

Fun to ride, easy and affordable to own, the CB300R receives some major upgrades for 22YM, including high-quality front suspension, assist/slipper clutch and EURO5 compliance for the engine. Just as before, it brings unique style to Europe’s city streets, with a bare-boned attitude that is guaranteed to turn heads.

2022 HONDA CB300R
  1. Model Overview

Light weight – the CB300R tips the scales at a wet weight of just 144kg – gives Honda’s small-bore superstar an immediate performance advantage. Mix in a free-revving 286cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine, with new assist/slipper clutch and EURO5 compliance for 22YM, plus the unique Neo Sports Café naked bike presence and the CB300R has the perfect formula to excite and inspire young riders.

The frame mixes pressed and tubular steel for a tuned rigidity balance that gives great feedback. For 22YM the CB300R now features, as standard equipment, 41mm Showa Separate Function front Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks (the same high-quality specification as fitted to the CB650R, with spring rate and damping changes)  as well as a radial-mounted 4-piston caliper, hubless floating front disc, IMU-controlled ABS and radial tyres.

A tapered steel handlebar, updated LCD instrument display and full LED lighting exude quality and add to pride of ownership.

The 22YM CB300R will be available in the following colour options:

Pearl Dusk Yellow ##NEW for 2022##

Mat Pearl Agile Blue ##NEW for 2022##

Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic

Candy Chromosphere Red

2022 HONDA CB300R
  1. Key Features

3.1 Chassis

  • New 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks
  • Radial-mounted 4-piston caliper and hubless 296mm floating front disc
  • ABS works through Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)

Underpinning the CB300R’s minimalism is its tubular and pressed steel construction diamond-style frame. The swingarm is manufactured from steel plate, irregularly shaped in cross-section. Both are designed to achieve high longitudinal rigidity and control torsion from wheel deflection without excess rigidity or weight.

The chassis’ core strength is anchored by the pressed steel swingarm pivot plates and swingarm, allowing the frame to deliver agile handling with stability and feedback; rake and trail are set at 24.2°/90.2mm. 24.7° / 93mm

41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks are a major new upgrade for 22YM. A pressure separation damper in one fork tube and spring mechanism in the other deliver high damper performance and lighter weight. Together with the use of a larger sized piston the result is increased feel, bump absorption and control. The rear shock offers 5-step spring preload adjustment.

A 49.6% front/50.4% rear weight bias provides a positive feel for front-end grip and easy steering which is also helped by the low, 144kg wet weight and compact 1,352mm wheelbase. Seat height is set at 799mm.

Braking is managed by a 296mm hubless floating front disc, worked by a radial-mounted Nissin 4-piston caliper, the rear 220mm disc via a single-piston caliper. Both are modulated by 2-channel ABS. The high specification system works through an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to give precise front and rear distribution of ABS operation depending on the vehicle behaviour.

A 150/60R-17 radial rear tyre matches the 110/70R-17 radial front.

3.2 Styling & Equipment

  • Unique Neo Sports Café style puts the hardware on display
  • New seat material improves comfort
  • Full LED lighting and LCD dash with updated gear position indicator

Styling is true to Honda’s Neo Sports Café naked bike design language, putting the CB300R’s blacked-out hardware on display. It’s also brutally neat; the cutaway tail unit is barely there, and supports separate rider and pillion seat. The seat features a new revised cover thickness for additional comfort and both rider and pillion footpeg hangers are aluminium.

A thin (23.5mm and weighing just 230g) full function LCD instrument display provides speed, engine rpm and fuel level, with gear position now highlighted in its own, negative form for 22YM. Warning lights are arranged across the top. Full LED lighting – including indicators – gives a premium feel and contributes to mass centralisation. The headlight uses a dual bar light signature, upper for low beam and lower for high beam and the taillight is extremely thin.

The 10L fuel tank is hidden underneath an angular cover and shrouds and houses an aircraft-style filler cap. With fuel economy of 30.2km/l (WMTC mode), the CB300R can cover over 320km from full.

2022 HONDA CB300R

Valerio Aiello, of Honda’s Rome R&D Department on the Neo Sports Café design aesthetic:

“The entire current Neo Sport Café range from Honda is the result of the CB4 Concept model presented at EICMA in 2015. Our desire was to explore the world of the café racer and reinterpret it in a modern key.

All the models of this CB series are not simply retro-vintage motorcycles, but rather neo-classics – that is, modern motorbikes showcasing classic design styles combined with modern techniques.

We wanted to create a new stylistic dimension, different from the muscular streetfighters of the last few years, and at the same time, far from the simpler café-racer style. The end result is that none of the bikes from the competition resemble the Neo Sports Café range and, like them or not, they are easily recognisable as Hondas. The competitors have classic or very modern motorcycles in their ranges, but in my opinion, not something that goes in the wake of both styles.

During development of the CB4 concept, I found inspiration from outside the world of motorcycles, in watches. I’ve always liked their technicality and one of the key concepts used during the Neo Sports Café design was ‘Mechanical Art’.

‘Mechanical Art’ is the desire to show the beauty of the various mechanical elements to which Honda has always given great importance. Watches do this very well indeed, with their mechanics always creating a certain charm.”

2022 HONDA CB300R

3.3 Engine

  • Responsive single-cylinder DOHC 4-valve engine
  • 9kW peak power/27.5Nm peak torque with EURO5 compliance
  • Redesigned underslung side-exit exhaust
  • Assist/slipper clutch now managing 6-speed gearbox

The CB300R’s compact, 286cc DOHC 4-valve liquid-cooled single cylinder engine is a diminutive jewel that has won many fans for its free-revving and responsive nature. And while it may pump adrenaline as revs rise it’s also an engine that works well in real-world road riding conditions, around town or out on the highway. Peak power of 22.9kW arrives @ 9,000rpm, with peak torque of 27.5Nm delivered @ 7,750rpm.

New for 22YM, an assist/slipper clutch allows super-smooth shifts and manages rear wheel ‘hop’ on rapid downshifting and hard braking. The 6-speed gearbox offers an even spread of gears for strong acceleration and the gear change mechanism employs an adjustable rose joint linkage.

Bore and stroke is set at 76 x 63mm, with compression ratio of 10.7:1. PGM-FI fuel injection – with 38mm throttle bore and straight-shot intake path – delivers crisp throttle response across the rev range. For EURO5 compliance – alongside an OBD2-compatible crank sensor – the underslung exhaust mid-section has been redesigned and incorporates a new larger catalyser. The right-side exit muffler also features a new, simpler internal structure.

To reduce maintenance costs – an important factor for younger riders – the engine is also designed with the minimum number of moving parts. Details like the low-friction piston rings, high-density core radiator and iridium spark plug help increase fuel efficiency.

2022 HONDA CB300R

The 22YM CB300R completes Honda’s unique Neo Sports Café family

2022 HONDA CB300R
The 22YM CB300R completes Honda’s unique Neo Sports Café family, joining the CB1000R, CB650R and CB125R.

The new 22YM CB300R joins its siblings, the CB1000R, CB650R and CB125R in Honda’s unique Neo Sports Café naked line up.

Honda’s new lightweight superstar – tipping the scales at just 144kg wet – features a free-revving, EURO5-compliant DOHC 4V 286cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 22.9kW peak power and 27.5Nm torque. The addition of an assist/slipper clutch allows smooth shifts and manages rear wheel ‘hop’ on rapid downshifting and hard braking.

The frame mixes pressed and tubular steel for a tuned rigidity balance that gives great feedback to the rider. And, just like its larger siblings, the CB300R now features SFF-BP USD forks with 41mm diameter that offer increased feel, bump absorption and control. The front radial-mounted 4-piston caliper, hubless floating disc, IMU-controlled ABS and radial tyres add to the specification, as do a tapered steel handlebar, updated LCD instrument display and full LED lighting.

Honda’s Neo Sports Café range reinterprets the café racer for the modern day, with ‘Mechanical Art’ key words in a design language originating in Honda’s R&D base in Rome. With beautiful engineering, classic touches and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, it’s a concept that draws a firm line of attitude and style around each model.

King of the Neo Sports Café range is the CB1000R. Updated most recently for 21YM, it features minimalist, purposeful ‘hunched forward’ styling and an exciting Fireblade-derived engine. The CB1000R Black Edition amplifies the aggressive outlook even further, complementing the lines with a hand-crafted ‘custom’ look, thanks to the Deep Graphite Black paint scheme and black headlight bezel, fly-screen, fork stanchions, radiator shrouds, airbox covers, exhaust and muffler details.

The CB650R, which for 22YM sees the introduction of the new Sword Silver Metallic colour scheme, continues the desirability of the range and offers a lively, four-cylinder middleweight choice. For those starting out, the CB125R (which gained a new DOHC 4V engine and SFF-BP forks for in 21YM) is a truly original first riding option.

The 22YM CB300R will be available in new Pearl Dusk Yellow and Mat Pearl Agile Blue colour schemes, alongside the Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic and Candy Chromosphere Red.
