Peugeot Django S: Urban Neo-Retro Scooter

New for 2016, the Django S is an urban take on Peugeot’s ‘neo-retro’ Django scooter.

Based around the 125cc Sport Model, the Django S has matt black body panels with a colour-matched cover behind the seat that can be removed to reveal a passenger saddle. Wheels, fork legs and engine cover are all painted black, with contrasting satin chrome finish on the trim, mirror covers and headlamp peak.

Inspired by Peugeot’s S57C scooter of 1958 and named after the legendary Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, the Django S is jam-packed with contemporary technology, including Synchro Braking Control (SBC), which distributes braking effort simultaneously between the front and rear 200mm disc brakes, for controlled and balanced stopping power.

The classic analogue speedometer dial has an LCD screen display set into it, featuring a trip computer, and the lockable dual compartment glove box has a 12-volt power socket inside for charging gadgets on the go. Modern LED lighting features throughout: in both the front and rear indicators, rear light and the signature lighting in the front grille. There’s also a helmet-size luggage bay beneath the seat.

The Django S is expected to sell for under £3000- and will be covered by a two-year unlimited mileage parts and labour warranty.

Peugeot cuts costs for scooter commuters

Peugeot has reviewed the price of its maxi-scooters ahead of 2016, helping British commuters to travel in style for less. The City Star 125i, Satelis 125i and RS versions are now all available at much more aggressive price points, as the UK scooter market continues to grow.

According to the latest statistics, 71% of UK workers still commute by car*, but figures suggest increasing numbers are switching to two wheels, to help beat rising travel costs and congestion.

The number of motorcycles and scooters registered in the UK has almost doubled over the past 20 years**, and the motorcycle industry’s own figures suggest the trend towards smaller capacity machines, designed for the daily commute, is also on the up: showing a 6.7% rise in the sale of new scooters in the first half of 2015***.

Priced at just £2899 (a saving of £500 on the previous list price) the CityStar 125i is ideal for carving through urban streets. Its 14bhp, liquid cooled, 125cc engine is capable of more than 80mpg and 70mph, and has easy-to-use ‘twist and go’ fully automatic transmission. Wrap-around bodywork and windshield help keep off the worst of the weather, and a generous underseat storage area helps with carrying the daily essentials.

The Satelis 125i (was £3999, now £3499) combines a steel dual cradle chassis with Michelin Pilot SC tyres, so it’s stable at speed and is agile around town too. Powered by Peugeot’s latest LFE (Low Friction Efficiency) 125cc engine, it consumes just 3.6 litres of fuel per 100km (78.5mpg). Powerful twin 55w headlights and LED lights round both front and rear light clusters help you see and be seen. There’s a 12-volt power supply in the lockable glove compartment, so you can charge devices on the move. Beneath the spacious seat is a storage bay, large enough to carry two full face helmets.

The prices of the RS ‘sport’ versions of both the City Star and Satelis have also been reviewed.

New Model Information: Peugeot Satelis 400i

Peugeot’s new Satelis 400i blends the practicality of a maxi scooter with class-leading performance.

Its 400cc four-valve fuel-injected engine puts out 37 hp with 38 Nm of torque – plenty of power for congested urban streets and for motorway cruising too. Mated to the twist & go CVT transmission, it makes light work of even the busiest of journeys, while generous 6,200-mile service intervals makes running the Satelis easy on the wallet too.

Designed for reliability as well as class-leading performance, the low friction engine requires little maintenance between services and its dual belt transmission is clean and fuss-free, with no messy chains to adjust or lubricate.

Unlike most maxi scooters, the Satelis has a large flat floor-pan, providing plenty of legroom, and special foot rests that allow riders to stretch their legs for feet-forward cruising, while the windscreen and aerodynamic body provide an effective shield from wind and weather. Passengers also enjoy a comfortable ride, thanks to the spacious dual seat and flip-out pillion foot pegs.

Peugeot Scooters have a reputation for great handling and the Satelis 400i continues this tradition, with 14-inch alloy wheels and Michelin City Grip tyres, combined with double steel cradle frame, telescopic front forks and preload-adjustable rear suspension. Twin 260mm front brake discs and Nissin hydraulic callipers, with a 240mm rear brake disc, provide powerful and predictable stopping power.

Practicality also features throughout; beneath the seat is a lockable storage compartment, large enough to hold two full-face helmets. For convenience, it opens via a button on the dash panel or by optional remote control. A car-style dash with digital displays of average and instantaneous fuel consumption, remaining range and much more, keeps the rider well informed. Standard equipment also includes LED daytime running lights, an on-board 12V socket and handy storage compartments in the leg-shields.

The Peugeot Satelis 400i is available in Pearly Black, Pearly White and Havana Grey, priced at £4599- on the road and is covered by a two year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty. There is also a sporty RS edition, featuring tinted low profile screen, black wheels, polished stainless steel silencer and sports trim seat. Available in White Snow and Titanium colours, the RS sells for £4799. For details visit peugeotscooters.co.uk.

Scorpion Gives Peugeot 3-Wheeler A Sting In The Tail

A sports exhaust has been developed for the Peugeot Metropolis 3-wheeler that is not only half the weight of the original, but also boosts the engine’s power by 5% and is road legal too.

Specially manufactured for Peugeot by Scorpion exhausts in the UK, the slip-on style silencer has a 400mm long T304 stainless steel sleeve with a flared oval construction, for extra ground clearance, enabling riders to take full advantage of the 3-wheeler’s 39-degrees of lean.

Fitting is straightforward, thanks to a Ø38.5mm OD connecting pipe that is designed to fit over the original header pipe. Weighing in at just 4kg, the sports exhaust is less than half the weight of the original system, (8.4kg).

Noise output is similar to the original, (within 1%), with a distinctive audible note. A removable ‘db killer’ is fitted as standard.

Retailing for £349.00 including VAT, the Peugeot Metropolis Sports exhaust is available from Peugeot Scooter dealers. For details visit peugeotscooters.co.uk.

New Peugeot Metropolis Blue-Line

New for summer 2015, the Blue-Line is a special edition of the Peugeot Metropolis 3-wheel scooter.

Its distinctive two-tone bodywork is inspired by the latest automotive colour trends and is enhanced by machined black wheels with blue detailing and a dual-texture sport seat, highlighted with blue stitching. The Blue-Line also gets a low-profile smoked sport windscreen and black engine casing.

Power is supplied by Peugeot’s new 400i Low Friction Engine, which is quiet, smooth and delivers excellent fuel economy. The two front wheels tilt when cornering, so the Metropolis corners and steers like a motorcycle, but with three tyres gripping the road, it is reassuringly stable, whatever the conditions. Riders can lock the Metropolis upright at the push of a button, for improved stability in slow-moving/stationary traffic, at the petrol pumps and for ease when pushing it into a parking space.

Synchro Braking links the twin 200mm front disc brakes and 240mm rear for powerful and controlled stopping. Tyre pressure monitors, with a real time display in the dashboard, are included as standard.

Other technical features include an electronic key-less ignition that is recognised within 1.5 m of the Metropolis and an electric parking brake, operated by a switch located in the centre of the handlebars. Bright daytime LED running lights feature between the front wheels.

Twin storage bays located beneath the seat and boot can be independently opened remotely using buttons on the dashboard and there is a 12-volt power socket in the glove box. The multi-position windscreen can be adjusted without tools.

The Peugeot Metropolis Blue-Line is an A2 category motorcycle but can be ridden on a car licence by drivers who passed their test before 19 January 2013. It sells for £7199- on the road and is covered by a two year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty. For details visit peugeotscooters.co.uk

Django: When Peugeot’s Past Meets The Future

For the past 115 years Peugeot Scooters has always found a way to renew itself. As a pioneer in the motorised two-wheeled adventure Peugeot produced its first motorcycle in 1898. More recently, Peugeot invented the modern scooter with plastic bodywork just 30 years ago. Now, by investing in the neo-retro segment with Django, Peugeot delved into its history to create designs for the future.

Peugeot introduced its first scooter in the early 1950s. At the time the S55 was a very comfortable and well-equipped two-seater scooter with genuine practical qualities. As a symbol of freedom and French elegance, Peugeot’s designers took their inspiration from this scooter to create the silhouette of its successor: Django. Standing solidly on its 12’’ wheels, Django has well-rounded rear wings punctuated by 3 air intakes, with long flowing bodywork that is reminiscent of the saloon cars of the era.

RETRO SPIRIT WITH ‘NEO‘ TECHNOLOGY

While its heritage is undeniable from the aesthetic perspective, Django is nevertheless a resolutely modern scooter on the technology front, as epitomised by the design of its lighting. Equipped with an all-LED lighting system, the Lion set in the centre of the wide front grille framed by the daytime lighting surround sets Django apart from all the other scooters on the market. The same principle  is apparent at the rear with a light cluster comprising high visibility signature strip-lighting that enhances Django’s neo-retro spirit. Customers will be able to choose between four different high-performance and fuel-efficient engines, ranging from a 50cc two-stroke to 125cc and 150cc four-strokes.

From the safety standpoint, the Synchro Braking Control (SBC) integral braking system distributes braking effort simultaneously to the front and rear wheels and is available as standard equipment on 125cc and 150cc models. While the dashboard has distinctly ‘Fifties styling, at its centre is an LCD screen, displaying trip meters, ambient temperature and speed, in addition to the analogue speedometer needle.

The low seat height culminating at 770 mm means that Django is accessible for the majority of riders, with comfortable and padded seating is. With a 1,363 mm wheelbase and an overall length of 1,944 mm, Django is particularly roomy to ride, notably two-up, when both the rider and passenger have enough comfortable space to avoid getting in eachother’s way.

As a functional scooter, Django is equipped with a 12V power socket in the glove box located on the back of the leg-shield, a bag hook and extensive under-seat storage space to accommodate a jet helmet. All in all, a scooter with authentic styling that is both high-tech and practical, and perfectly adapted to daily travel in urban environments.

Django will be produced in four styles; Allure, Sport, Evasion & Heritage. Details of availability, options and prices will be published on Peugeot Scooters’ UK website in the near future. Visit www.peugeotscooters.co.uk.
