Piaggio launches upgraded version of Piaggio 1 e-scooter

Piaggio 1, the e-scooter for urban mobility from Piaggio, is now available in an upgraded version, with higher performance and the goal of ensuring increasingly even quicker commuting, always in complete safety and maximum ease of riding.

Thanks to the changes made on the Power Unit, the electric motor fitted on Piaggio 1, built into the rear wheel, it is now able to provide greater power, which translates into a quicker ride, still maintaining its qualities of simplicity and ease of riding, even in city traffic characterised by frequent stops and starts, and with more get-up-and-go on hills.

In the moped version, so with speed limited to 45 km/h, Piaggio 1 can now count on almost twice the peak power, equal to 2.2 kW. The result is a significant increase on the acceleration front, which is now 14% better.

In this new version, Piaggio 1 combines the winning features of the most modern electric scooters, created to move around in the city centre in complete freedom with agility, light weight and practicality, even in maintenance, without sacrificing performance comparable to that of combustion engine scooters.

In the tradition of the top European scooter manufacturer, Piaggio 1 means, first and foremost, safety, thanks to a solid chassis architecture, and a vocation to ease of riding, but also an attractive design, comfort, and a high level of rideability, as well as a plethora of technological equipment which includes digital and colour instrumentation, full LED lighting, and a keyless system. Piaggio 1 is also the only e-scooter in its class with a spacious storage compartment under the saddle, capable of holding a full jet helmet.

Piaggio 1 is available in a dual colour range: Forever Grey, Forever White and Forever Black are the three more sombre colour schemes which highlight its essential and clean design, whereas Sunshine Mix, Arctic Mix, and the new Flame Mix are three two-tone liveries that bring out its young and fresh soul.

The battery is located under the seat, easily extractable in just a few seconds and portable so that it can be easily charged at home or in the office. Piaggio 1 is available at the price of £2,700 OTR.

THE MAIN NEW PRODUCTS FROM THE PIAGGIO GROUP AT EICMA 2021

Aprilia Tuareg 660
This bike on the Aprilia 660 platform is a true off-roader with a name introduced by Aprilia in 1985 that has become legendary in the off-road segment, so evocative that its destination can be immediately identified. The Tuareg 660 has been designed, developed and built as the ideal synthesis between mono-cylinder enduros and mid-range adventure bikes, two antithetical worlds until now. The Tuareg 660 raises the level of off-road riding to adventure bikes while making the most of its personality as a tourer, thanks to its impeccable performance on the road, premium technical content, the capabilities of its 80 hp twin-cylinder engine and a dry weight of just 187 kg. An innovative concept and an innovative design where the focus is on practicality, with the elimination of all superfluous elements. The frame has been developed for heavy-duty use on challenging off-road terrains. Structural solidity is guaranteed by the six anchor points fastening the engine to the frame, to turn the engine into a stressed member. The very long-travel suspensions are fully adjustable and ideal for overcoming any off-road obstacle while ensuring rider and passenger comfort on the road. The 18-litre tank is heavily tapered in the leg area; its vertical development means the fuel remains close to the barycentre without affecting riding dynamics. The measurements of the tubeless aluminium rims indicate the strong off-road vocation of the Tuareg 660: 2.5 x 21” for the front wheel, 4.5 x 18” for the rear wheel. Both are fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres, measuring 90/90 and 150/70 respectively. The instruments are cutting edge, with a suite of APRC electronic controls, including traction control, cruise control, engine brake and customisable engine maps. The ABS can be deactivated on both channels for particularly challenging off-road riding. The parallel twin-cylinder engine, a highly compact lightweight latest-generation unit, was designed specifically for use on this type of motorbike; its specific modifications deliver 80 hp and 70 Nm, with 75% of torque already available at 3,000 rpm, to guarantee immediate response to the throttle at the lowest revs. The bike comes with a wealth of accessories and special clothing.

Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory
With respect to Tuono 660, already widely recognised and appreciated by the public and critics for its outstanding chassis qualities, Tuono 660 Factory boasts more sophisticated suspension, better suited to sports riding. The Kayaba fork with 41 mm stanchions is fully adjustable in its compression and rebound damping and spring pre-load, while the Sachs shock with separate reservoir is also adjustable in its compression and rebound damping and spring pre-load.
There is an even better weight/power ratio, thanks to the adoption of a light lithium battery that contributes to reducing the overall weight by roughly 2 kg (the kerb weight is now 181 kg). The maximum power of the 660 cc twin is upped from 95 HP with the Tuono 660 to 100 HP with the Tuono 660 Factory. The engine boasts even more drive in acceleration, thanks to the use of a shorter final drive, with a 16-tooth pinion gear, one less than Tuono 660. The maximum torque remains unchanged, with 67 Nm at 8500 rpm.
Tuono 660 Factory offers a full suite of APRC electronic controls with a Ride-by-Wire electronic accelerator and six-axis inertial platform as standard, as well as the AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift), the electronic gearbox that allows for very rapid shifting without closing the throttle or using the clutch. It is also equipped with the downshift function, to allow for clutchless downshifting.
The design is further enhanced with the aggressive and sporty Factory Dark graphics and the presence of the single-seat tail fairing, painted in black and red

Aprilia RS 660 Limited Edition
Little more than a year after its market launch in October 2020, the Aprilia RS 660 is already celebrating its first major sports victory: the Italian mid-range sports bike dominated the 2021 Twins Cup, the fiercely fought US championship for mid-range twin-cylinder models and part of MotoAmerica, the United States’ premier motorcycle road racing series. To celebrate the victory,

Aprilia is presenting a special numbered edition of 1,000 RS 660 two-wheelers, featuring an original stars and stripes livery inspired by the US flag and unique features including a one-seater tailpiece cover, large-size front shield and software to invert the quick-shift configuration. This means, depending on the rider’s needs, the shift can be independently configured for road riding or inverted, ideal for track riding.

Aprilia SR GT
The first urban adventure scooter from Aprilia, to re-discover the pleasure of riding in an urban setting on a daily basis, as well as over longer distances or on lesser known roads and trails, thanks to features inspired by enduro bikes that make this two-wheeler the ideal companion in any situation. On the new Aprilia SR GT the active riding position and broad motorcycle-style naked handlebar optimise control, while the long-travel suspensions and greater above-ground height mean any obstacle encountered during city driving can be easily overcome; the broad all-terrain tyres support any type of surface, from asphalt and paving stones to dirt roads. The Aprilia SR GT is also a leader in terms of engine power and efficiency, with two state-of-the-art Euro 5 electronic injection, 4-valve, liquid-cooled units from the i-get family. In addition to the mono-cylinder 125 cc i-get engine, with a top power of 11 kW at 8,750 revs and torque of 12 Nm at 6,500 revs, the mono-cylinder 174 cc makes its debut on the Aprilia SR GT 200, delivering 13 kW at 8,500 revs and torque of 16.5 Nm at 7,000 revs. Benchmark values that guarantee elasticity, lively acceleration and smooth riding in all conditions, with highly efficient fuel consumption.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello
With the V100 Mandello, Moto Guzzi takes its first step into its second century, during which it will continue to produce magnificent motorcycles with a powerful personality. The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello opens a completely new chapter in the company’s history; it eludes conventional categorisation, combining brilliant performance with the vocation for travel that lies at the heart of every Moto Guzzi two-wheeler. This is a Moto Guzzi like never before, whose cutting-edge technology and innovative technical and aerodynamic solutions open the door to the future of the brand. The V100 Mandello is an innovative bike starting with the design which, as always, enhances the unique, inimitable twin-cylinder engine. Lines that eschew nostalgia, offering a modern take on the key points of the Moto Guzzi stylistic idiom. A watershed in the brand’s history, the bike introduces many important technological innovations: the first two-wheeler with adaptive aerodynamics, the first Moto Guzzi model to feature advanced electronic solutions such as the six-axis inertial platform, ABS cornering, semi-active suspensions and a quick shift, to name just the most important. It is also the first Moto Guzzi bike powered by the new compact-block engine with sophisticated technical characteristics. Tradition is maintained by the 90° V-twin architecture, which guarantees Moto Guzzi’s unique torque delivery and inimitable sound, but the project is completely new and offers impressively brilliant performance: power of more than 115 hp and torque of more than 105 Nm, 90% already available at 3,500 rpm. The sporty character of the bike is complemented by a compact manageable frame, while the high level of comfort provided by the generous saddle and active extended riding position confirms its aptitude for touring. Moto Guzzi technology enhances comfort and protection from the air with an electrically adjustable windshield and, a world-first, an adaptive aerodynamic system for automatic regulation of the position of the air deflectors on the sides of the fuel tank, depending on speed and the riding mode selected. The top-of-the-range electronic equipment includes an electronic ride-by-wire accelerator for finely tuned performance and consumption management, the Marelli 11MP advanced control system, the 6-axis inertial platform for optimal management of the electronic controls, cruise control, and ABS cornering for active safety when braking on bends. Four riding modes are available: Viaggio, Sport, Pioggia and Strada, each offering 3 different engine maps, 4 levels of traction control, 3 engine brake levels and (in the version where they are standard features) calibration of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspensions, with automatic moment-by-moment regulation of the hydraulics to the riding style and surface conditions, to optimise performance in any situation.

Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore
Moto Guzzi is celebrating 75 years of uninterrupted collaboration with the Corazzieri Regiment, with the presentation of the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore, a limited numbered special edition of its highly regarded classic travel enduro, which in the manufacturer’s centenary year has joined the motorcycle fleet of the regiment that provides the guard of honour of the Italian Head of State. Just like the V85 TT motorcycles recently delivered to the Quirinale Palace, the V85 TT Guardia d’Onore features the black livery with white graphics of the Corazzieri Moto Guzzi bike. The white stripes run along the front mudguard over the fuel tank and side panels, and also appear on the extra-large Touring windshield. The windshield is a standard feature, together with the central stand, engine shield bars and supplementary LED lights. A pair of side panniers are available for this model on request. The Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore will be produced as a limited series of 1946 motorcycles, a number referring to the first of the 75 years of collaboration between the Mandello Eagle and the Corazzieri Regiment. An additional indication of the exclusivity of this model is the application of each bike’s serial number, from 1 to 1946, on the handlebar riser.

Piaggio 1
The Piaggio 1 combines the winning features of an up-to-the-minute e-scooter – lightweight agility for urban commuting plus essential lines and practicality – with the quality and reliability of Piaggio scooters.
This means safety first of all, thanks to a robust frame intended to ensure riding pleasure, as well as an attractive design, top-level comfort, and impressive technological features that include a digital colour instrument panel, full LED lights and a keyless system. The Piaggio 1 is also the only e-scooter in its category to provide a roomy underseat compartment, with space for a full-jet helmet. The Piaggio 1 is powered by an electric motor incorporated in the rear wheel: the moped version (Piaggio 1), with a speed of 45 km/h, delivers an output of 1.2 kW, while the motorcycle version (Piaggio 1 Active) has a 2 kW unit.
In both versions, the battery, housed below the seat, can be easily removed in seconds and carried into the home or office for recharging.

Piaggio 1 Feng Chen Wang
The collaboration between Piaggio and Feng Chen Wang, one of the most experimental and innovative stylists on the international scene today, has produced a personalised special edition of the Piaggio 1, the brand new Piaggio two-wheeler for electric urban mobility. The Feng Chen Wang special edition is distinguished by an exclusive livery where the stylist and designer, who was born in China’s south-eastern Fujian province, known for its breathtaking landscapes, combines Chinese tradition with vibrant London-style creativity.
The watercolour visually combines the natural elements of water and the symbol of the Phoenix, which in Chinese mythology represents virtue and grace, and is drawn by hand using the traditional Chinese brushstroke technique, while the colour green, also used on the seat cover and wheel rims, is a reference to Chinese native flora and universal values such as health, prosperity and harmony. Piaggio’s collaboration with Feng Chen Wang has also produced a special helmet and a capsule collection of unisex streetwear.

(VESPA ELETTRICA)RED
The partnership between the Piaggio Group and (RED), the non-profit organization founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver, sees the creation of (VESPA ELETTRICA)RED and its presentation at EICMA 2021 dressed entirely in red. The iconic red colour is more than just a bold statement – every purchase of the (VESPA ELETTRICA)RED will trigger a donation to support the Global Fund, one of the world’s largest funders of global health, to support the fight against pandemics with (RED).

(RED), named for the colour of the emergency, was founded in 2006 to turn companies into a cavalry to fight the AIDS pandemic. Today, the cavalry is also fighting the urgent threat of COVID and its devastating effects in communities where pandemics hit hardest.
Following the (VESPA 946)RED in 2017 and (VESPA PRIMAVERA)RED in 2020, the (VESPA ELETTRICA)RED is the third exclusive product to result from this longtime partnership, embodying more effectively than any other the common values of commitment to global health and respect for the environment and planet.

Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Piaggio Sign Swappable Battery Agreement

Following the signing of the Letter of Intent on March 1, HONDA Motor Co., KTM F&E GmbH, Ltd., PIAGGIO Group (PIA.MI) and YAMAHA Motor Co., Ltd., have officially signed the agreement for the creation of the Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium (SBMC).

Committed to the promotion of the widespread use of light electric vehicles, such as mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles in the transport sector and to the more sustainable life-cycle management of batteries in the context of international climate policies, the founding members of the Consortium believe that the availability of a commonly developed swappable battery systems is key to the development of low-voltage electromobility.

The underlying aim of the Consortium is to find solutions to the concerns customers may have regarding the future of electromobility, such as the range, the charging time and infrastructure, and costs. This will be achieved in accordance with four primary goals:

  1. Develop common technical specifications of the swappable battery systems
  2. Confirm common usage of the battery systems
  3. Make, and promote, the Consortium’s common specifications as a standard within European and International standardization bodies
  4. Expand the use of the Consortium’s common specification to global level

By working closely with interested stakeholders and National, European and International standardization bodies, the founding members of the Consortium will be involved in the creation of international technical standards. Indeed, the availability of charging stations varies between countries and there is still limited information for end users. Therefore, with this Consortium, HONDA, KTM, PIAGGIO and YAMAHA aim at
engaging the decision makers for the development and deployment of charging infrastructure to promote the increase of light electric vehicles.

The four founding members encourage all interested stakeholders to join the cooperation to enrich the Consortium’s expertise in order to ensure a large diffusion of standard swappable batteries in the future. Parties who are interested to join the SBMC can contact one of the founding members for further information.

Yoshishige Nomura, Chief Officer, Motorcycle Operations, Honda Motor Co., Ltd.:  Honda believes that the widespread adoption of electric motorcycles can play an important part in realising a more sustainable society. For that purpose, we need to solve several challenges such as extending the range, shortening the charging time and lowering the vehicle and infrastructure costs to enhance convenience for customers. In the Consortium we have created, the founding members from the motorcycle industry and other stakeholders will work together towards standardizing swappable batteries, their charging systems and surrounding infrastructure to create the environment for their use. Our final goal is to ensure that motorcycles will continue to be chosen as a useful method of transportation in future mobility

Stefan Pierer, CEO PIERER Mobility AG: “The signing of this Consortium agreement is a key step in ensuring that PIERER Mobility AG, can continue to move forward, deliver innovation at pace, and advance its clear strategic vision for electric powered two-wheelers. Together with our partners, we will work to deliver a swappable battery system for low-voltage vehicles (48V) up to 11kW capacity, based on international technical standards. We very much look forward to ensuring that powered two-wheeler vehicles maintain their role in the future of both urban and non-urban mobility

Michele Colaninno, Chief of strategy and product of Piaggio Group: “Urban mobility is going through a delicate moment of transition towards electrification. Thanks to our Consortium, representing four major global players, motorbikes will continue to play a key role in the urban context. Swappable batteries give the right answer to speed up the recharging time of vehicles offering an additional valuable choice for users. Urban mobility is part of the Piaggio DNA and history: our aim is to bring all our technological know-how and attitude for innovation to the Consortium.”

Takuya Kinoshita, Senior Executive Officer, Chief General Manager of Land Mobility Business Operations, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.: “The Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium in Europe is finally ready to get to work. I hope that this first step forward will be a beacon that draws like-minded parties to our mission and leads to transformative changes for the future. We at Yamaha Motor are confident that through this initiative, we can help unify the differing technical specs and standards and contribute to maximizing the merits of electric power for customers around the world.”

Piaggio Rideout Day 2021

Yesterday we lucky enough to spend a bit of time at the Piaggio group press day where I got to ride the Aprillia RS660, Aprillia RSV4 Factory and Aprillia Tuono 660.

Our colleague Maja also took out Moto Guzzi, Aprilia RS 660 and Aprilia Tuono V4 she will express her judgment in a separate blog to come.

We are talking mid May in the UK and of course you really cannot rely on the weather and when you turn up to Silverstone its cold wet and miserable (the weather that is). Though the site of many gorgeous looking bikes all lined-up would make you smile and they did.

My quick overall impressions were the Aprillia RS660 and RSV4 Factory are excellent sports bikes. To me personally they are really more at home on the track or on smooth dry tarmac road on dry sunny day rather than wet UK roads in spring. That said if you are lucky enough to take them out you will walk away with a huge grin on your face.

Where as the Aprillia Tuono 660 is a much more friendlier day to day rideable motorcycle for your commute and a lot easier on the wrists in my case.

Don’t get me wrong the Aprillia RS660, Aprillia RSV4 Factory are stunning bikes and would jump at the chance to own one or spend more time with them. Ive been on sportier bikes since was 16 however now I’m getting on a bit and a few ailments (wrist and hands) they maybe have too much power for me.

Piaggio Beverly Range

Launched in 2001, Piaggio Beverly has revolutionised the mid-sized scooter market, introducing a vehicle with an attractive design, brilliant performance and extreme safety, not only due to its large-diameter wheels but also thanks to motorcycle-type frames and suspensions. Beverly’s commercial success has always gone hand in hand with constant updates to keep it on top of the sales charts and an object of desire for the most sophisticated urban users.

With Beverly, Piaggio completes its offer of high-wheel scooters to satisfy all daily mobility needs. The Liberty is the entry model for Piaggio high-wheel scooters, equipped with ABS and the air-cooled version of the Piaggio i-get engine; the Piaggio Medley is the gateway from the Liberty to the large, luxurious Beverly. It comes with the full-range of standard equipment. This includes the ‘Start & Stop’ system, the 125 and 150 cc versions of the most recent evolution of the Piaggio liquid-cooled i-get engine, ABS and an incredible underseat compartment that can accommodate two full-face helmets. The Beverly range is, therefore, the point of arrival in the motorcycling development of Piaggio’s high-wheel scooter customer.

The Piaggio Beverly 300 and 350 family

The Piaggio Beverly 2020 range is available in 300 and 350 engines. The latter is the innovative record-breaking power unit first introduced in 2011 in the top-of-the-range SportTouring version only. It is now extended to the entire Beverly family, consisting of Beverly, Beverly S and Beverly Tourer.

The 300 cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve, electronic injection engine provides a maximum power of 21 hp at 7,250 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of 22.5 Nm 5,750 rpm. Such specs come with a throttle response to match, coupled with feisty performance, making it ideal both for tackling congested town traffic and for mid-range touring in full comfort, whether riding solo or two-up.

Beverly and Beverly S are also available with the ultra-modern 4-stroke, 4-valve, electronic injection and liquid-cooled 350 single-cylinder engine, a state-of-the-art Piaggio Group scooter engine technology. This is an engine designed to provide performance comparable to a 400 cc unit, but maintaining compact dimensions and reduced weight in line with a 300 cc engine. Equipped with the first and only scooter engine with an automatic multi-plate wet clutch derived from the motorcycle world, it has exceptional performance with extremely contained fuel consumption: maximum power of 30.2 HP at 8,250 rpm and maximum torque of 29 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The extremely effective frame and suspension guarantees superb agility, effectiveness and riding pleasure.

The entire Beverly range is packed with standard equipment and content. The ABS braking system and ASR traction control system are standard on all models. The remote control for opening the seat at a distance is also standard and helps you to find your vehicle by flashing the indicators (‘bike finder’ function, optional on Beverly). The storage compartment in the leg shield houses a practical and functional USB port, for charging all modern devices. All models in the Piaggio Beverly range are available in attractive colour variants with dedicated finishes and offer an elegant instrument cluster with integrated LCD display and indicators for ABS and ASR; the latter can be disabled using the special button on the handlebar.

The Piaggio Beverly family consists of:

  • Piaggio Beverly 300 and 350: a classic of urban mobility. Safe, reliable, generous in performance. The all-Italian design is marked by elegant and refined shapes, in which details such as the position lights and the LED rear stop lights play a primary role. It is ideal for city and suburban travel, with its comfortable, erect and relaxed riding position, offering excellent wind protection and the capacity of the under-seat compartment, which can accommodate two full jet helmets.
  • Piaggio Beverly 300 and 350 S: the sportiest version of Beverly has dedicated colours, and matt dark grey painted details, which give it a youthful and aggressive look. The Piaggio Beverly S also stands out for its motorcycle-inspired frame and suspension, with a centrally positioned fuel tank, under the footrest, capable of centralising the masses (at the same time freeing up space for the underseat compartment), for a riding experience that perfectly balances power and agility.
  • Piaggio Beverly 350 Tourer: The flagship of the Beverly range stands out for its equipment and benchmark performance, offered by the 330 cc single-cylinder engine. The Beverly 350 Tourer comes as standard with a practical and sporty smoked windshield and a capacious 36-litre top box in the same colour as the vehicle and a backrest in the same colour as the seat. The equipment also includes the PIAGGIO MIA connectivity system, through which you can connect your smartphone to the vehicle via Bluetooth. Using the App, you can thus record and display a rich set of information about the trip and the operating status of the vehicle on your mobile device.

Piaggio MP3 300 HPE

After more than 180,000 MP3 units sold all over the world, Piaggio continues to revolutionise the world of urban and metropolitan mobility, introducing a new, original version of its three-wheeled scooter.

Piaggio MP3 300 hpe is the new, more agile and lighter version of the Piaggio MP3: a compact, sporty and dynamic vehicle which, nevertheless, does not sacrifice superior comfort and the content typical of GT scooters. All of this combined with the new Piaggio 300 hpe engine, accredited with power and torque values at the top of its category.

Piaggio MP3 300 hpe can be operated with a simple car driver-s license: in fact, the exclusive Piaggio three-wheeler technology is the same as its “bigger siblings” Piaggio MP3 350 and 500 hpe: the front articulated quadrilateral suspension system and the double front wheel are unique and distinctive elements that make riding the Piaggio MP3 an absolutely unique experience, with more cornering stability than any other scooter, and excellent road holding that can be felt at its finest on wet asphalt or in poor grip conditions.

The compact dimensions and handling of the Piaggio MP3 300 hpe can be appreciated both in manoeuvring and at a stop, making parking super easy to manage and enhancing agility when in motion. The front end is extremely precise in riding and even more communicative.

Dynamic and sporty design

Piaggio MP3 300 hpe stands out for its modern and sporty design which harmoniously blends the aggressive front end with a sleek rear to provide a slender and light line.

The front shield maintains the distinctive traits of the Piaggio MP3 maxiscooter family: the centre is dominated by the double headlight fitted with high efficiency LED daylight running lights, a solution borrowed from the automotive world that modernises the front view. The characteristic “neck tie” divides the headlights and acts as a connecting element between the grille and the built-in tinted windscreen designed to guarantee the best possible protection. Contributing to slimming down the front view, made unique by the double front wheels, are the sporty profile mudguards painted to match the body (Sport version), whereas the wheel rims have a five split-spoke design: another clear reference to the luxury sport saloon world.

To go with the aggressive front, there is a sleek and slender tail which elegantly houses two convenient handles for the passenger, ending with the modern and refined rear light assembly, characterised by LED parking and brake lights.

Comfort and functionality

The new Piaggio MP3 300 hpe is comfortable and extremely functional. The saddle, with seating on two separate levels, is shaped in such a way so as to allow easy and safe contact with the ground and to guarantee adequate lumbar support for the rider, all to the advantage of comfort. The passenger position is laid back and relaxed, thanks in part to the practical fold-out foot boards which, when closed, integrate perfectly in the fairing. The combined braking system pedal, on the right foot board, has been repositioned for better global riding ergonomics.

The under-seat compartment, extremely spacious, easily accommodates two jet helmets (one jet and one demi-jet). The saddle has a spring to keep it in the open position. A practical and discrete concealed bag hook finds a place integrated into the leg shield back plate.

Like on the Piaggio MP3 “maxi” range models, the dashboard includes a modern instrument cluster made up of two conventional round displays and a multi-purpose digital display with data on fuel consumption (average and current), average and maximum speed, fuel gauge, travel time, and ambient temperature with ice alarm. The instrument panel also includes a clock, total and trip counter and battery voltage reader. The 11 lights on the instrument panel display the functioning of the headlights, dipped headlights, indicators, reserve fuel, oil pressure, warning (injection), immobilizer, ABS, ASR and four emergency lights.

Above the instruments, on the other hand, is a practical glove compartment with a drawer and USB connection, ideal for recharging a smartphone and any other enabled device.

Versions and colours

The new Piaggio MP3 300 hpe range comes in two different versions: Piaggio MP3 300 hpe and Piaggio MP3 300 hpe Sport, the latter distinguished by even sportier finishes and details.

Piaggio MP3 300 hpe

A symbol of metropolitan elegance, Piaggio MP3 300 hpe is available in two brand new colour schemes: glossy Nero Cosmo colour and matt Argento Cometa. Both are matched with five-spoke wheels with matt black finish and a saddle with double covering.

MP3 300 HPE 3 Sport

Piaggio MP3 300 HPE Sport

Piaggio MP3 300 hpe Sport stands out for its numerous details with matt black finish, such as the “neck tie” on the shield, the stripes on the centre tunnel and the passenger grab handles. Its sportiness is highlighted by the front and rear shock absorber springs painted red, a colour that also appears on the contrasting stitching of the seat. Other standard features include front daisy brake discs and aluminium accents on the footboard.

Three colour schemes are available: Pastel white, glossy Pastel grey and Meteora Black, the latter matt.

The Piaggio 300 HPE engine: more power and more torque

The new Piaggio MP3 hpe boasts the latest evolution of the Piaggio 300 cc single-cylinder, 4 stroke, 4 valve, liquid-cooled engine with electronic injection: the result of Piaggio Group R&D know-how, and known as 300 HPE (High Performance Engine), the unit has benefited from extensive work aimed at increasing performance while at the same time reducing fuel consumption.

With respect to the previous version, maximum power comes in at 19.3 kW (26.2 HP) at 7750 rpm, which translates into a 24% increase, while maximum torque, equating to 26 Nm at 6500 rpm, has been boosted by 15%. Figures of absolute reference that are immediately appreciated when accelerating from stationary. These improvements are paired with a significant reduction in consumption, with mileage increasing from 30.3 km/l to 31,2 km/l in the WMTC cycle.

The primary objective of the project was to optimise thermodynamic output and to reduce friction and engine noise, at the same time increasing performance and general rideability. All of this without affecting weight and dimensions, which remain the same as the previous unit.

The head is the result of a completely new cast and is characterised by entirely redesigned internal components: the geometry and diameter of the ducts have been revamped, as well as the intake and exhaust valves, which have increased in diameter by 3 mm. The use of a piston with redesigned architecture, particularly in the shape of the top, results in a highly efficient combustion chamber.

The single camshaft system with overhead valves is entirely new and has rockers with roller tappets instead of flat tappets, all to the advantage of smoothness, durability and the reduction in mechanical loss. The camshaft profile has been redesigned to achieve different angle over stroke, stronger but at the same time capable of reducing the noise generated by the distribution: specifically, more angle over stroke valve time guarantees greater filling of the combustion chamber, which translates into better efficiency. Consequently, the load and dimensions of the valve springs have also been upgraded.

The introduction of a new high pressure multi-jet injector also helps to improve combustion. A more generous intake line, equipped with a duct with optimised length, improves the torque delivered at low revs and ensures an exceptionally smooth ride at any speed. Last, but not least, the new iridium ignition spark-plug ensures greater durability in the same operating conditions.

The numerous changes to the engine have also increased the already proverbial reliability, which is demonstrated by the less frequent routine servicing, now scheduled for every 10,000 km.

The transmission has also been dramatically redesigned: The continuously variable transmission (CVT) benefits from a sturdier belt and new materials designed to reduce friction and noise; lastly, a new and stiffer clutch drum has allowed for even more quiet mechanical operation.

The engine is controlled by a latest-generation Magneti Marelli MIUG4 ECU, already compatible with the future Euro 5 standard: featuring greater calculating capacity, it contributes to improving overall engine efficiency and also allows the engine to be started almost instantaneously, after just two revolutions of the crankshaft.

Ultimate safety: three wheels, ABS and ASR

Both models in the Piaggio MP3 300 hpe range adopt the ABS anti-locking braking system integrated with ASR traction control (Acceleration Slip Regulation). The ASR (first brought to scooters by Piaggio) can be easily disconnected and guarantees safety by keeping the rear wheel from slipping on dangerous surfaces like wet asphalt.

The three channel ABS system, developed in collaboration with Continental, maximizes active safety preventing wheel blockage when braking and providing full control of the vehicle at all times. The Piaggio MP3 employs an all-disc braking system on the three wheels, with a disc diameter of 258 mm on the front and 240 mm on the rear. Greater safety and an even smoother ride are provided by the large 13 inch diameter front wheels.

The Piaggio MP3 also owes its success to exclusive patented Piaggio technology for the dual independent, tilting front wheels regulated by a unique four bar linkage suspension, which the leading Group in Europe designed and developed before any other manufacturer in the world to ensure maximum riding pleasure in complete safety. The roll mechanism is made up of four fused aluminium arms linked to four hinges that are firmly connected to the central sleeve, and two side sleeves connected to the arms by means of pivots and ball bearings. Inside the side sleeves, the right-hand and left-hand steering tube rotates in a classic single-arm set-up.

The blocking mechanism for the front suspension, a distinguishing feature of the three-wheel Italian scooter, transforms the balance of the Piaggio MP3 300 hpe from dynamic to static. Start up the vehicle and it stays in balance on the three wheels without the need for a stand (fitted nonetheless). To resume normal operation accelerate or use the dedicated push button. This means you never need to put your foot in the ground and you can park the Piaggio MP3 300 hpe anywhere, easily and effortlessly.

PIAGGIO MIA: connected at all times by smartphone

The PIAGGIO MIA multimedia platform, standard equipment on the Piaggio MP3 300 hpe Sport, allows for a smartphone to be connected to the on-board electronics system, transforming it into a multifunctional tool, a real computer able to simultaneously display information such as the speedometer and rev counter, but also instantaneously delivered engine power and torque, longitudinal acceleration, lean angle when turning, instantaneous and average fuel consumption, average speed, battery voltage and much more. With the smartphone connected to PIAGGIO MIA it is also possible to view maps and routes and identify fuel stations and service centres for example. The tyre condition control function synergistically exploits the vehicle’s sensors and the smartphone to monitor tyre wear and inflation, immediately warning the user before potentially critical situations arise. while the general analysis function allows overall vehicle condition check.

Piaggio Liberty

Piaggio Liberty is a milestone in two-wheeled mobility development. It is synonymous with independence and freedom. Introduced in its first version in 1997, Liberty is one of those rare products that, model after model, has managed to remain faithful to itself and its name, continuously modernising and meeting the needs of new generations of customers.

Piaggio Liberty has skilfully achieved great success, finding favour with the most advanced customers, because of its ability to meet the needs of mobility and freedom with a formula that combined style, light weight, an easy ride and safety.

20 years later, Piaggio Liberty continues to renew itself but it stays in line with the values that inspired the original project and with the goal of meeting the demand – increasingly stronger – for a vehicle characterised by superior quality levels, lightweight and sturdy, easy to use but with impeccable performance and with high technological content at the service of safety, such as the ABS braking system that comes standard on the 125 and 150 cc versions, both Euro 4 compliant.

Liberty 50

Piaggio Liberty is available with Euro 4 engines for three displacement versions (50, 125 and 150 cc) and characterised by an active safety system, ergonomics and new elegant lines to go with the large diameter wheels which, from the very first Liberty, gave a compact scooter all the dynamic safety of superior class vehicles, contributing to it being concretely established in the “high wheel” segment.

The Piaggio Liberty transformation is not simply an evolution, it is a true rebirth which, building on the principles that inspired the first Liberty, has produced a technologically advanced vehicle on the roads today, but one that is extraordinarily coherent with the heritage of a true best-seller, designed to meet the most advanced an modern needs in terms of quality, style, safety, operating economy and environmental friendliness.

Dimensions designed for comfort in the saddle, technological powerplants, increased active safety margins thanks to the diameter of the front wheel. The light weight, user friendliness and natural charm of the product remain unchanged, even in the presence of a more “important” vehicle, confirming Liberty as a scooter capable of satisfying the widest variety of customers: from the very young who will find a perfect entry level vehicle, to the young and more mature rider looking for safe, easy mobility with low operating costs.

Piaggio i-get engine: more power, less consumption, smoother riding
Liberty is powered by the family of Piaggio i-get (Italian green experience technology) Euro 4 engines in the air cooled version is introduced for the first time on the Liberty, a unit that represents the cutting-edge of the respective engine capacity segments.

These powerplants are the result of a design philosophy that sets advanced quality and reliability levels – along with low consumption and emissions – as its primary objectives. Every aspect of the design was aimed at increasing the efficiency of each individual part in order to contribute to maximising performance.

The Piaggio Liberty comes in three different engine versions – 50, 125 and 150 cc – to meet any mobility needs, with such points in common as brilliant performance in the respective engine capacity categories, the quality and reliability of the powerplants, low operating costs and the contained emissions, including noise. All of the Liberty engines are ultra-modern 4-stroke, air cooled and electronically fuel injected. Each part was also designed to make the ride smooth, quiet and comfortable.

Characterised by the a modern 50 cc 4-stroke engine and by the 3 valve timing system that distinguishes the i-get family, the fifty is the result of a design that aims to maximise quality, reliability and implement an extraordinary reduction in consumption and harmful emissions. It is the perfect drivetrain for a very young person’s first ride, and the new rider will certainly appreciate the brilliant features that combine with marked operating savings, thanks to its low fuel consumption. In terms of environmentally friendliness in the city, Liberty’s engine keeps noise to a minimum thanks to the development of gearbox settings that allow the single cylinder to maintain quick performance while still being “docile”, in other words, at a lower average rpm compared to the engines in the previous generation. The result is a reduction in mechanical noise in addition to lower fuel consumption. Compared to the previous version, along with the emissions reduction, the Euro4 version improves performance in terms of acceleration and quickness up to 8%.

The engines that equip the Liberty are characterised by an injection system with improved efficiency and boast superior performance, both in terms of power and torque, all to the advantage of acceleration from low rpm which translates into a quickness and responsiveness in typical stop and go city riding. An eight-hole injector delivers the fuel in a fine spray for optimum combustion.

Liberty 125

Piaggio i-get 50 cc, 125 cc and 150 cc are efficient single cylinder engines thanks both to the mechanical components and to the electronics part. Some of the brand new components worth a mention are:

  • the crankshaft, with 24% increased inertia compared with the previous engine for a decisive reduction in vibrations and a smoother ride.
  • the starter motor, 70% quieter
  • the gearbox cover, to reduce the noise even more and increase stiffness.
  • the air filter with automotive style paper filter, which improves filtering action to reduce intake noise.
  • the barometric sensor, so that combustion is always optimised.

Particular care was dedicated to defining the scooter’s clutch, designed and developed to maximise riding satisfaction. More specifically, attention was focused on power management both in phases of slight acceleration and in “stop and go” riding which is so typical of the big city and traffic jams. The results, from the rider’s point of view, are a smooth and soft ride that, combined with the engine’s increased power, provide an experience that is always pleasant, smooth and jerk-free.

The exhaust unit makes the engine quieter and at the same time ensures a more full and pleasant timbre.

Quality and reliability: no compromise for customer satisfaction

The Piaggio Liberty is the result of a development process which, from the very first design phases, set as its goals the superior final quality of the vehicle and performance, as well as keeping customer satisfaction at the centre of the process.

Targets such as perfect ergonomics, user friendliness, handling and stability and low fuel consumption and emissions with more and more lively performance stem from an attention to the end customer in order to provide the market with an ultra modern, high performance, stylish and well crafted vehicle with which to distinguish themselves even when riding in the most elegant metropolitan environments.

The Liberty family boasts superior construction quality that shines through not only in the reliability – an essential value – but also in the physical perception of top shelf finishing. The materials, the treatments, the combinations and even the colour choices, all contribute to a sensation of perceived quality that can satisfy even the most advanced customer.

The solidity of the Piaggio Liberty and each one of its components is a clear trait of the vehicle, as is the painstaking care for each and every detail which comes out in aspects which are anything but secondary such as the modular feeling of the throttle, the perfect construction of the storage compartment in the leg shield back plate, the materials selected to cover the seat, the sound of the engine, the absence of vibrations and the feeling during braking. This is a construction process that significantly raises the Liberty’s global quality level and which allows us to offer the customer a valuable and reliable product that will maintain its advanced characteristics over time.

Liberty 150

Frame, chassis, ergonomics, ABS system: Piaggio Liberty is born safe

Superior handling for an absolutely easy ride, uncompromising stability at even the highest speeds for undisputed safety: these are the “guides” that inspired the design of the Liberty frame, the fork geometry, the implementation of a front wheel – 16 inches in diameter – and then the selection of the materials for the chassis and the highest possible quality components.

The Piaggio Liberty frame is a sturdy single cradle structure in tubular steel with pressed sheet metal elements. The torsional rigidity and longitudinal stiffness mean decidedly better handling and riding stability for the user, worthy of vehicles in a superior class, with a feeling of absolute control over the vehicle.

On the front end a hydraulic telescopic fork operates with renewed geometry, whereas a double arm connects the engine crankcase to the frame at the rear, guaranteeing optimum damping of the engine’s alternating forces. A single, dual-action shock absorber, adjustable in spring preload on 125 and 150, allows the Liberty to adapt perfectly to the weight of the rider or rider and passenger.

Liberty has always been a prominent player in the “high wheel” scooter segment. Faithful to its philosophy of a lightweight and manoeuvrable, but also stable and safe vehicle, precisely because of the large wheels, it continues in this direction with an increase in front wheel diameter, guaranteeing even better stability at faster speeds. Both rims are characterised by their attractive seven split spoke design at the centre and are made from aluminium alloy.

The rear 14” rim mounts a generous 100/80 tyre which ensures grip and stability without compromising Piaggio Liberty’s legendary agility.

The ABS that equips Liberty was developed by Piaggio with Bosch, the largest automotive parts manufacturer in the world. The electronic braking control system prevents the front wheel from locking up in the event of sudden stops or on slippery surfaces, another important step forward in the vehicle’s active safety. The braking system, even on the 50 cc version, is made up of a 240 mm front disc, gripped by a Nissin calliper and a reliable and tireless 140 mm rear drum.

Where safety is concerned, nothing was left to chance: Piaggio Liberty has high quality parts such as the double gas cable that always guarantees the possibility of mechanically closing the throttle body, the tilt sensor which switches off the engine immediately in the event of a fall and the sensor that prevents riding with the side stand down (available as optional equipment).

Style: Italian elegance, ergonomics and maximum functionality

Piaggio Liberty, in its various versions over the years, has always been an icon which has contributed to creating the high wheel scooter phenomenon. A perfect representation of Italian style and elegance, it has set itself apart in a segment where beauty is often sacrificed for functionality, successfully combining practicality and elegance.

The latest version of Liberty embodies and advances all of the style that has characterised its heritage, beginning from a basic harmonic and fluid design that emphasises characteristics such as handling and practicality, combined with a precious Italian style.

Piaggio Liberty immediately exudes a sensation of quality and sturdiness and it does it being more dynamic, larger and more comfortable, but without straying from that original spirit that made it so successful. Its proportions have not be revolutionised and great attention was given to the overall ergonomics of the vehicle, placing the rider (whether male or female) at the centre of the project in every phase of development.

The front shield becomes even more protective without sacrificing the vertical aesthetic element which has become a characteristic of all Piaggio production, thanks to which the family feeling of the Italian manufacturer is completed and it thereby acquires an even stronger formal sense of belonging.

The front expresses a richer and more technological image. In the 125 and 150 cc versions the daylight running lights are LED and, taking advantage of light guide technology, they work together with the main headlight source placed on the handlebar, characterising Liberty and making it as recognisable in the dark as it is during the day.

The electronic instrumentation integrates the elegant traditional reading with the presence of a modern LCD display that has button controls on the right side of the handlebar and provides all the information you need to manage the vehicle.

In the leg shield back plate, thanks to the battery being moved, the space available for the glove-box is an astonishing 4 litres. As optional equipment the space is installation-ready for a convenient USB socket to recharge your smartphone. The entire structure of the convenient glove-box is created with great attention both to material selection and treatment. The result is high quality which is immediately clear simply by opening and closing the compartment. The storage space for cargo or helmet storage in the compartment under the seat is a spacious 17 litres.

Greater on board comfort was the factor that guided design and development of the Piaggio Liberty. The central part of the vehicle is now more comfortable and the footboard more convenient, both for the rider’s feet and, thanks to the foldaway footpegs, the passenger’s as well.

The saddle, completely remodelled and particularly large, has been lengthened for greater comfort even when riding two-up and it is enhanced by stitching that emphasises its sinuous shapes. At the base of the seat an innovative chromium element enhances aesthetics with a purely decorative function, slimming down the rear part of Liberty, but including a groove which makes it easier to open and close. A wireless remote control built into the key with a “bike finder” is available as optional equipment that activates the turn indicators. This is a convenient device to help you locate your vehicle in a crowded car park.

The tail of the vehicle takes on a more important presence in the overall image of the Liberty. The increased cargo capacity meant increasing dimensions without interfering with its stylistic purity. The shape of the rear, smooth and harmonious, ends with a completely revamped light cluster. The surfaces of the tail, sculpted and modelled, blend with the Liberty’s side elements, in other words, the guards that protect one of the most exposed parts of the body from impact. These elements are coordinated with the ones that protect the front shield and they include elegant chromium elements.

Accessories: a complete, technological and exclusive range

Piaggio Liberty is accompanied by a range of accessories worthy of a best-seller and, just like the vehicle, completely revamped in light of the new quality standards, new technologies and increasingly advanced needs of metropolitan riders. The range designed and developed for Liberty is not “only” the widest available for a scooter in its class, but it is also the most innovative.

For Liberty, Piaggio Group’s technology expresses a range of highly technological accessories, a true exclusive for a scooter in this category.

Piaggio Group And TRACKER Network UK Work To Help Customers Beat Winter Bike Thieves

Long dark nights present new opportunities for bike thieves, with thefts spiking in the winter months. Piaggio & C. S.p.A. (Piaggio Group) and its Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi retailers across the UK are helping buyers of all Piaggio Group products, including the Vespa GTS 300, Piaggio Beverly 300, Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 and Aprilia’s range of 125cc models protect their purchase with access to vehicle tracking units from the UK’s leading stolen vehicle recovery expert (SVR), TRACKER.

By partnering with TRACKER, Piaggio Group customers will benefit from the peace of mind that comes with its proven VHF technology. In combination with traditional security precautions, TRACKER contributes significantly to a robust defence against theft and ensures a greater chance of recovery should an owner become the victim of unscrupulous criminal activity.

A Piaggio customer in Esher, Surrey, recently learned first-hand of how effective the TRACKER device is when his Piaggio Beverly 300 was stolen from his driveway one evening. It was only when he received an alert from TRACKER that he realised his bike, worth over £5,000, was missing.

Commenting on the theft, the customer said: “I received a text from TRACKER to alert me to some unusual movement of my Piaggio scooter, which I thought was on my driveway. I opened the curtain only to discover that it was gone. I immediately called the police and TRACKER, and within one hour my bike was located half a mile away from my house. Although some of the modifications and accessories had been stolen from the bike, I was able to take it home with me that night. If I hadn’t had a TRACKER device fitted, there is no doubt that I would never have seen the bike again.”

Clive Wain, Head of Police Liaison at TRACKER, comments: “Unfortunately, bike theft escalates in autumn and winter, which means owners need to be extra vigilant. Our partnership with Piaggio and Vespa means new owners benefit from TRACKER’s stolen vehicle recovery systems. A tracking device won’t stop a scooter from being stolen, but it significantly increases the chances of police finding and recovering it.”

TRACKER’s technology allows a signal to be transmitted, received & tracked regardless of location.

Simon Greenacre, Marketing Communications Coordinator for Piaggio in the UK, said, “Hearing about a stolen motorcycle or scooter is always unpleasant news but, in this case, our partnership with TRACKER has demonstrated that it is possible to fight back against thieves and get a positive result. This example of how TRACKER’s leading technology can offer peace of mind and protection for our customers is important because working together is a key strategy in defeating the criminals.”

New Piaggio Summer Gloves

Light, flexible and breathable, Piaggio’s new Summer Gloves are designed to make scooter riding on hot summer days much more comfortable.

The palm is predominantly made from Clarino – a man-made alternative to leather that out-performs leather in some applications, yet retains its softness, even when wet, and is microporous, to allow moisture and heat to escape.

This works with mesh panels on the back for ventilation, to keep hands feeling fresh.

The short cut means they can sit easily under the cuffs of summer riding jackets and also allows airflow around the wrists and forearms.

For added comfort and dexterity, the gloves use stretch fabric, and the Neoprene cuff, with Velcro closure, ensures a secure fit. Thermoplastic rubber knuckle protectors complete the package.

Piaggio Summer Gloves come in sizes S-3XL in classic black with a subtle Piaggio Logo injected on the wrist closure. They retail at £49.00 including VAT.
