Triumph backs custom bike scene with the Bike Shed

Triumph, the UK’s leading large-capacity motorcycle manufacturer, is once again working with the Bike Shed Motorcycle Club (BSMC) on its two custom bike exhibitions for 2015.

Supporting the emerging new-wave bike culture, Triumph will play an instrumental role in bringing the Bike Shed to a new audience in Paris (Carreau Du Temple, 11-12 April), as well as helping to further grow the London event (Tobacco Dock, 24-25 May). Bringing together riders and builders from across the continent to share their passion for creativity, personalisation and style, the two events will celebrate the most audacious custom builds in the retro-classic motorbike scene.

Now in its third year, BSMC began as an underground bike club hosting custom events for a select handful of dedicated shed builders. Its last event, in May 2014, boasted more than 7,000 paying visitors and continues to attract more than 300,000 followers on social media with a weekly audience reach of over one million.  This year’s events promise to be more successful than ever before, with bigger venues, more displays and on-site parking for hundreds of one-off custom motorbikes.

From café racers, brat style scramblers and a whole host of other bespoke builds, to art, photography, design and culture, each event will celebrate the underground custom bike scene and showcase the talent and passion of motorcycling’s unsung heroes.

Rick Cawley, general manager, Triumph UK and Ireland, commented: “The UK custom scene is hugely popular and continues to grow year after year.  It’s an unintimidating, all-inclusive entry to motorcycling that appeals to both experienced and new riders, as well as being a great route back for those who’ve taken a break from two wheels.

“At Triumph, custom bikes are in our blood. No other manufacturer has the history or repertoire when it comes to the retro-classic motorbike scene. By supporting BSMC for the second year running, we’re backing everything there is to love about motorcycling; the love of riding, the love of beautiful bikes and the love of the camaraderie that follows.”

Anthony ‘Dutch’ van Someren, founder of the Bike Shed, added: “Having the support of Triumph for our 2015 events is a huge boost for BSMC. The brand has an authentic history in the custom scene and continues to play an important role in growing the creative culture worldwide. With more bikes, builders and exhibitors than ever before, we’re confident that our exhibitions will be better than ever and, as much fun to organise as they will be to visit!”

Tickets to both the Paris and London events are available now from www.thebikeshed.cc

Triumph ‘goes global’ with special edition Tiger Explorer

Triumph Motorcycles has announced a limited-run special edition of its 1,200cc adventure icon – the Tiger Explorer XC. With 50 bikes available from April, each unique model will celebrate the Hinckley-based firm’s international partnership with motorcycle expedition specialists, Globebusters.

Paying tribute to the bikes that will be used by Globebusters’ guides on their worldwide overland expeditions throughout 2015, the special edition Explorers have been fitted with a number of upgrades and modifications to take riders on-road, off-road and beyond!

Available in either matt black or matt blazing orange, each bike has been designed to handle the toughest of challenges. Alongside heated rider seat and grips, the special editions have been fitted with a taller screen, headlight protectors, radiator guards and CNC machined front foot rests. Accordingly, every bike comes fitted with a sat nav and mount as standard, alongside a tank pad, panniers, roll bag and free set of continental TKC 80 tyres.

Powered by Triumph’s award-winning 137 BHP three-cylinder power unit, the special edition Explorer delivers class-leading performance and high-specification as standard. Alongside intelligent ride-by-wire throttle control, each bike features cruise control, switchable ABS and full rider traction control. The unparalleled quality continues in the chassis department with a strong steel frame and cast alloy wheels, 19” front and 17” rear, the latter showcased by a stylish single-sided swingarm.

Elsewhere, the Explorer has undergone a number of eye-catching cosmetic changes. From painted pannier lids, mounts, footrest hangers and fog light surround to blacked-out grab handles and handlebars, the XC SE gives the world’s most courageous riders a class-leading bike to travel the world on.

The Globebusters-inspired Tiger Explorer XC SE is priced at £13,999 OTR. Only 50 models have been produced and will be available from selected dealerships from April 2015. For more information, or to explore the Triumph adventure range for yourself, visit www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk.

All-new Tiger 800 roars into dealerships

Building on the successes of its popular predecessor, Triumph’s new Tiger 800 will land in UK dealerships next month. The four distinctive model derivations, headed by the XRx and XCx, are designed to give the ultimate experience for both on and off-road biking.

The rugged adventure bike, which has already enjoyed rave reviews, comes in two distinct guises; giving riders more choice than ever on how (and where) they take their bike in 2015. While the Tiger 800 XRx is ideal for road riding, the Tiger 800 XCx is packed with features that make it the perfect off-road bike.

What really puts this new Tiger 800 range ahead of the pack is its emphasis on rider focused technology. Both the XRx and XCx are the first in their class to include cruise control; making these bikes true titans of technology. The models are further supplemented by the inclusion of a full Ride by Wire system that interacts with the ECU; opening up a whole new level of technology.

With an even more satisfying, exciting and ultimately rewarding ride, each bike delivers greater agility, complimented with class-leading technology innovation. Central to this is the Tiger’s 95PS three cylinder engine, providing the bike with a sophisticated feel. It gets more exciting inside the engine, with raft of changes implemented to reduce mechanical noise and boost the premium feel of the triple engine.

Alongside this, fuel consumption has also been enhanced, with a class leading 270 mile tank range; a range increase of 40 miles compared to the outgoing Tiger 800.

These technical improvements are coupled with brand new bodywork, which gives the bike a more dynamic stance, complimenting the highly defined lines of the tank side panels. Available in high gloss Crystal White, Phantom Black or Caspian Blue, wherever you’re going this year, the Tiger 800 is sure to get you there in style.

Available from authorised Triumph dealers across the UK, pricing for the new Tiger 800 range starts at £8,499.

Record UK sales figures sees Triumph takes the top spot

Leading large-capacity motorcycle manufacturer, Triumph, is celebrating its most successful year ever, after recording a record volume of 8,128 UK bike sales. Taking the top spot once again in the <500cc market, the Hinckley-based firm is continuing to dominate the industry.

Between January and December 2014 alone, the Great British brand continued to maintain its 18.7% share of the UK marketplace, complemented with a host of new model launches. Compared to the same period in 2013, this confirms an 8% year-on-year increase – meaning that nearly one in every five new large capacity bikes sold across the country is a Triumph.

Alongside continued investment in people and processes, the launch of 13 new bikes across the adventure, roadster and cruiser markets has firmly placed Triumph in the hearts and minds of Britain’s biking community. From three new special edition Bonnevilles and a custom version of Triumph’s iconic Thunderbird (launched at Intermot in October), to an all-new Tiger 800 family (unveiled at EICMA in November), the leading manufacturer continues to embrace the latest in innovative design, style and riding technology.

Reflecting an industry-wide trend towards easy riding, stylish machines, Triumph’s classics have seen the greatest increase in sales over the year. The Bonneville Scrambler, for example, has seen figures soar by more than 84% compared with the same period in 2013, while more than 200 additional models of its T100 cousin have rolled off production year-on-year. In addition, sales of Triumph’s off-road adventure icon, the Tiger 800XC, have increased by 24%, while figures for the 1,200cc Explorer XC have shot up by more than 54%.

In addition to a host of new models, the introduction of TriStar, Triumph’s easy way to finance your motorcycle, has given riders a simple and affordable way to take to the road on their dream bike – playing a key role in driving this positive growth. A flexible Personal Contract Purchase Finance Product (PCP) purchasing programme, TriStar makes investing in a new model more accessible than ever before.

“2014 has been a hugely successful year for Triumph Motorcycles,” commented Rick Cawley, general manager of Triumph UK. “Alongside unveiling a number of new bikes, accessories and riding wear ranges, we’ve announced partnerships with The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, Bike Shed Motorcycle Club and Barbour International; three key names in global motorcycling that will allow us to engage with riders and support worthy charity causes at the same time.

“The industry is undoubtedly experiencing its most successful seasons in over five years, a true reflection of the burgeoning confidence in the UK economy and demonstrates that riding is regaining popularity as a leisure pursuit, as well as a stylish option for the urban commuter.

Further afield, global figures from the Triumph Group show a 4.5% year-on-year increase in unit sales, with a managed accounting loss of £8m due to unrealised exchange rate loss, planned overseas expansion costs and ongoing investment in new models. Group turnover totaled £364 million, while total unit sales rose to more than 54,000 – compared to just over 52,000 in the preceding year.  This reflects the group’s long-term vision, a theme reflected by significant ongoing investment in people, product and facilities to retain a leading position in the development and production of class-leading, large capacity motorcycles

Triumph unveils the world’s fastest riding jacket

Paying nostalgic homage to its success at the 1956 motorcycle land speed record attempt, Triumph has introduced a brand new riding jacket into its Winter 2014 range.

Exclusively available from authorised dealers across the UK, the stylish and functional jacket takes inspiration from Johnny Allen’s historic ride on the Triumph-powered ‘Texas Ceegar’ motorcycle, taking bikers back in time to the Utah Bonneville Salt Flats, when the UK last held the world speed record.

Finished in deep navy with a subtle chequered design, the jacket pairs style and safety in perfect harmony. Alongside embossed embroidery to celebrate the historic 214.40MPH record, Bristex outer fabric and a breathable Tritrex z-liner are used to guarantee 100% water and wind-proofing with optimum breathability and comfort.

High-strength removable Knox elbow and shoulder guards offer the upmost protection, while a quilted liner and zip opening ventilation panels provide maximum comfort and versatility. A connection zipper allows the jacket to be seamlessly paired with any of Triumph’s leather or fabric riding trousers, making the record-breaking jacket the perfect addition to any rider’s winter wardrobe.

With an RRP of £255, the jacket is available immediately from Triumph’s authorised national dealer network. To find your nearest dealer or to see the complete Autumn 2014 clothing collection online, please visit: www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk

Bobber v Scrambler- last chance to have your say in Triumph’s big bike build-off

Following the unveiling of two factory customs at this year’s EICMA (Milan, 4th– 9th November) exhibition, Triumph Motorcycles is calling for riders across the world to vote for their favourite model.  With the winner set to be announced at Motorcycle Live in Birmingham (22-30 November), the custom competition will finally resolve one of biking’s biggest battle – Bobber v. Scrambler.

The BobberThe competition began with two sets of volunteers from within the Triumph factory in Hinckley being tasked with creating the ultimate custom bike from a standard Bonneville base.  Combining minimalistic style with a stripped-back riding experience, the first team’s custom Bobber is a feast for the eyes of any committed bike lover.

Incorporating a low, sinuous stance into their Bonnie base, girder forks have been completely redesigned to give better handling than traditional an all-together smoother ride.  The incredible engineering design has been rolled out across the bike, with a traditional solo seat wired with Radianz LED lights to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.

The innovation isn’t just evident in the bike’s exterior, however.  Using a ’69 Bonnie US Export fuel tank, the team successfully overcame the issue of incorporating modern electronics, looms and sensors that usually beset custom bike-builds.  By splitting the tank in two – one half being used for electrical components and the other for fuel – the team managed to maximise the efficiency of the bike without compromising its overall on-road efficiency.

This is just scratching the bike’s surface.  Countless other details are coupled with truly staggering engineering flourishes to create Triumph’s custom Bobber – a bike that calls back to the firm’s pioneering heritage.

To see the Bobber in action,

The Scrambler

Having won a legion of loyal fans thanks to their status as purposeful, powerful and aggressive off-road alternatives to stock road bikes, scramblers set the pace for custom-bike builders.

Using the standard Bonneville base, the second factory team wanted to reduce weight but maximise power, so set about streamlining the bike to bring it closer in line with a scrambler-style motocross model. To achieve this, the team replaced the existing steel frame with a bespoke aluminium and titanium chassis and incorporated a bespoke carbon fuel tank to give the bike a sportier overall look.

In order to add some spark to the Scrambler, the team completely modified its twin engine, engineering a one-off set of high-lift cams.  Overall, the impressive range of engine mods gave the custom Scrambler a mighty 25% boost in overall power, bringing the bike roaring into life and more than matching the sleek new exterior.

To take a closer look at the Scrambler, please visit:

Your vote counts!

The result of hours of skill, craftsmanship and some industry leading genius, both bikes represent the very best of custom design and reflect the vision and passion of the Triumph factory.  But who is your overall winner? To have your say, visit http://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/triumphfactorycustom and share your favourite bike through social media.  The bike and team with the most shares by 9am, Wednesday 26th November will be declared the winner at Motorcycle Live 2014.

New 2015 Tiger 800

Introducing the all-new 2015 Triumph Tiger 800 – a dynamic Adventure motorcycle designed to deliver whatever you want no matter how you ride. On road or off, the new Tiger’s manners, riding position, handling and responsive engine give the rider everything required to enjoy every ride regardless of climate or conditions.

For 2015 there isn’t just one new Tiger 800, there are four. The Tiger 800 XR and XRx are more focussed to the world of road riding whereas the Tiger 800 XC and XCx have a more off-road intent. All models have high levels of standard equipment whilst the range topping XRx and XCx bring more technology to the segment offering the rider a range of standard equipment and rider focussed technology. This technology has been developed to optimise the ride both on and off-road and includes:

• Ride by Wire

• Switchable ABS

• Triumph Traction Control

• Three Riding Modes (XRx and XCx)

• Cruise Control (XRx and XCx only)

• Trip Computer

In addition to the host of technology and equipment advances, the new Tiger 800 features our cleanest and most efficient triple engine to date. The original Tiger 800 redefined what riders should expect from the middleweight Adventure class and the new Tiger has pushed that further. The 800cc unit is a rewarding engine that pulls strongly and smoothly from low speeds, delivers a wide spread of mid-range power and still lets the rider use the higher revs, right up to the 10,000rpm limit. Making the most of the engine’s eager character has now been made even easier thanks to a lighter and more precise gear change action, which now uses parts from Triumph’s class-leading Daytona 675 Supersport bike. Fuel consumption has been hugely improved – up by 17% on the “mixed use” cycle (European GTR2 test cycle) to 65mpg, and given the 19 L fuel tank capacity it now has a potential range of 272 miles to a dry tank.

Mated to the heavily revised engine is a class-leading chassis which translates to outstanding handling on the road, and increased capability off-road. All new XC and XCx models feature WP suspension to further boost the Off-Road riding qualities of the new XC models. The WP 43mm USD fork, with rebound and compression damping is easily adjustable through dedicated clickers on the fork tops. The rear suspension unit is a WP mono shock adjustable for preload and rebound.

With improved ergonomics, allowing you to make the most of the increased range, improved thermal efficiency and a host new details and features the new Triumph Tiger 800 is truly no ordinary adventure.

The new Tiger 800 will be available from January. Call us on 020 86570121 order yours now to secure earliest delivery!
