New Vespa Primavera And Vespa Sprint S

Always Primavera
The first version of Vespa Primavera was born in the turbulent and creative climate of 1968 and quickly became a star, providing the generation that was changing the world with two wheels, and a whole lot of style.

With its contained dimensions and innovative lines, light and clean, combined with sparkling performance, simplicity and riding pleasure, Vespa Primavera was a breath of fresh air in a world hungry for change. Its global success made it one of the most beloved models in Vespa history.

Designed according to the same principles of style and elegance and equipped with the very best technology of the time, Vespa Primavera was reborn in 2013. The “small body” Vespa, which has always embodied the energetic and most urban spirit of Vespa, became ultra-modern, designed to ensure mobility with the elegance of an exclusive design, but also practicality and unique technical solutions, such as the full steel body. Harnessing the best technology of the time, the design and style of the new Vespa Primavera represented a real step forward with respect to previous generations.

Exactly ten years since its return, today Vespa Primavera undergoes an important style and technology revamp while maintaining its iconic legacy. The Vespa story is, after all, one of infinite technical and style development. The models evolve gradually, sometimes significantly, but they never lose sight of the original idea that has always put style, elegance, and riding pleasure at the heart of the project.

Vespa Primavera

Vespa Sprint
In the mid 1960s, a new generation of sports Vespa invaded Europe’s roads. These little “rockets” were small, quick, extremely agile and modern, just like the spirit of the guys and girls riding them.

Born out of the “small body” that characterised Vespa 50 and Vespa Primavera, they divided the world of the best loved scooter into two families, leaving the large body models to the adults.

Today the Vespa Sprint S is the natural heir to that tradition of vitality, style and youth. Based on the body of the new Vespa Primavera, it is dedicated to young riders and emphasises the sporty style details that its very name, legendary by birthright, evokes.

Presented in 2014, the Vespa Sprint family is now updated in line with the technical and style development of the Primavera range.

A new style, always Vespa
Owning a Vespa has always been a lifestyle choice, a statement of independence, elegance and positivity. Vespa represents a style that has continued to evolve, often anticipating or setting trends and always modern, always current, accompanying the generations that have long trusted in Vespa for their freedom.

Sharing the same exclusive steel body that has always distinguished Vespa from every other scooter, ensuring it is unique, Primavera and Sprint S now flaunt a series of style updates that bring them even more up to date.

The Piaggio Centro Stile continues to identify new finishings and new combinations of materials while ensuring meticulous attention to detail, to highlight the uniqueness and different identities of Vespa Primavera and Vespa Sprint.

The entire handlebar block has been redesigned with real attention to both the overall shape and the details, while the hand grips are also new for more immediate, natural control.

The leg shield back plate on the Primavera and Sprint S is new, elevating the sensation of perceived material and assembly quality. The Vespa Primavera Tech version, complete with keyless system, incorporates a selector that replaces the tradition key ignition. The wheel rims are new, with a five-spoke design for the Primavera, while the six spokes of the Sprint S form a particular spiral shape that adds energy and dynamism to the silhouette. Additional elements that have undergone a style revamp include the new crest on the mudguard (only for Vespa Primavera) and the new design and finishings of the central steering cover.Even the seat has been improved on the various versions, thanks to the use of new materials that ensure a better finish.

Vespa Sprint S Elettrica

New technology
As well as undergoing a significant restyling, the new Vespa Primavera and Vespa Sprint S also receive a technical upgrade to ensure they remain cutting-edge, just as Vespa has always done throughout its history, embodying the best available technology decade after decade.

The Tech version of Vespa Primavera uses a key-less system, which sees the classic ignition switch on the rear shield replaced by a practical selector. The rider need only switch this to the ON position , and then the engine is started as usual, using the button located on the right-hand control bock. The key is used to open the seat and activate the Vespa remote identification system, which causes all the indicators to flash, a particularly useful function in busy car parks.

The new instrument panel, adopted by all Primavera and Sprint S versions (with the exception of Primavera Tech 125, 150 and Elettrica), elegantly combines both analogue and digital functions, displayed on a 3″ LCD screen. The traditional elegance of the Vespa speedometer is integrated with a series of functions including distance-based trip management, fuel consumption and average and maximum speed. The digital instrumentation also allows for management of the Vespa MIA multimedia platform, which connects Vespa to a smartphone – as standard on Vespa Primavera Tech and optional across the rest of the range.

In its 125 and 150 cc versions, Vespa Primavera Tech adopts a technological new 5″ TFT Full Colour instrument panel, one of the most advanced available today. As well as trip and vehicle-related functions, the Vespa MIA app allows the TFT screen to display all the functions for the management of phone calls, messages and music playlists as well as pictogram-based navigation, with a double day/night viewing mode.

Safety is also heightened with LED technology used for all the lights, both for Primavera and Vespa Sprint S. The new elements include the headlight, taillight and characteristic indicators integrated into the chassis. Greater visibility and better lighting improve the riding and level of safety in all conditions.

Vespa Sprint

Two successful families
The arrival of the new Vespa Primavera and Vespa Sprint S versions allows for a  redesign of the Vespa range, with Vespa Primavera and Vespa Sprint S now available with both a combustion engine and an electric motor.

The fuel-powered versions, with an engine capacity of 50, 125 or 150 cc, flaunt an ultra-modern, four-stroke engine with three valves and electronic injection. All are compliant with the latest Euro 5+ standard. In line with its eco-friendly spirit, models in the new “small body” Vespa range are also available with an electric motor, as a Moped version (moped-compliant and with speed limited to 45 km/h) and a Motorcycle version, available with the Primavera Tech equipment package.

All models with an electric power unit flaunt technology developed in recent years on the Vespa Elettrica, born in 2018, with the battery located under the seat. An efficient and compact layout that ensures the unique and iconic Vespa design remains intact. Because Vespa is not simply an electric scooter, but a work of art with a technological heart.

Vespa Primavera Elettrica and Vespa Sprint S Elettrica (or rather the Moped versions) also benefit from the fact the battery can be removed in a matter of seconds by disconnecting the cable that connects it to the vehicle; complete with handle, it can easily be transported for convenient charging at home, in the office or anywhere you may be.

A colourful universe
With its colourful, carefree universe, Vespa expresses the personality of its rider. This is why the new Primavera and Sprint S are keen to exploit the Vespa colour tradition, building on it to create a look that is even more lively and contemporary.

Vespa Primavera is available in Bianco Innocente, Nero Convinto, Verde Amabile, Arancio Impulsivo and Blu Energico, each paired with elegant chrome finishings. With its different engines, Vespa Primavera is also available with the Primavera S trim, which offers trendy shades paired with dedicated seat, finishings and graphics. Colours include: Beige Avvolgente, Nero Convinto Opaco and Giallo Curioso.

Primavera Tech expresses the most technological Vespa heart, its Blu Energico Opaco and Grigio Entusiasta colours contrasting with irreverent graphics and neon green finishings.

Vespa Sprint S is available in five colours: Bianco Innocente, Nero Convinto Opaco, Verde Ambizioso, Rosso Coraggioso and Blu Eclettico. Each shade is paired with dedicated graphics and bold black details, with either a matt finish, in the case of the traditional steering cover for example, or a polished look, like the wheels.

Aprilia Tuareg 660
This bike on the Aprilia 660 platform is a true off-roader with a name introduced by Aprilia in 1985 that has become legendary in the off-road segment, so evocative that its destination can be immediately identified. The Tuareg 660 has been designed, developed and built as the ideal synthesis between mono-cylinder enduros and mid-range adventure bikes, two antithetical worlds until now. The Tuareg 660 raises the level of off-road riding to adventure bikes while making the most of its personality as a tourer, thanks to its impeccable performance on the road, premium technical content, the capabilities of its 80 hp twin-cylinder engine and a dry weight of just 187 kg. An innovative concept and an innovative design where the focus is on practicality, with the elimination of all superfluous elements. The frame has been developed for heavy-duty use on challenging off-road terrains. Structural solidity is guaranteed by the six anchor points fastening the engine to the frame, to turn the engine into a stressed member. The very long-travel suspensions are fully adjustable and ideal for overcoming any off-road obstacle while ensuring rider and passenger comfort on the road. The 18-litre tank is heavily tapered in the leg area; its vertical development means the fuel remains close to the barycentre without affecting riding dynamics. The measurements of the tubeless aluminium rims indicate the strong off-road vocation of the Tuareg 660: 2.5 x 21” for the front wheel, 4.5 x 18” for the rear wheel. Both are fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres, measuring 90/90 and 150/70 respectively. The instruments are cutting edge, with a suite of APRC electronic controls, including traction control, cruise control, engine brake and customisable engine maps. The ABS can be deactivated on both channels for particularly challenging off-road riding. The parallel twin-cylinder engine, a highly compact lightweight latest-generation unit, was designed specifically for use on this type of motorbike; its specific modifications deliver 80 hp and 70 Nm, with 75% of torque already available at 3,000 rpm, to guarantee immediate response to the throttle at the lowest revs. The bike comes with a wealth of accessories and special clothing.

Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory
With respect to Tuono 660, already widely recognised and appreciated by the public and critics for its outstanding chassis qualities, Tuono 660 Factory boasts more sophisticated suspension, better suited to sports riding. The Kayaba fork with 41 mm stanchions is fully adjustable in its compression and rebound damping and spring pre-load, while the Sachs shock with separate reservoir is also adjustable in its compression and rebound damping and spring pre-load.
There is an even better weight/power ratio, thanks to the adoption of a light lithium battery that contributes to reducing the overall weight by roughly 2 kg (the kerb weight is now 181 kg). The maximum power of the 660 cc twin is upped from 95 HP with the Tuono 660 to 100 HP with the Tuono 660 Factory. The engine boasts even more drive in acceleration, thanks to the use of a shorter final drive, with a 16-tooth pinion gear, one less than Tuono 660. The maximum torque remains unchanged, with 67 Nm at 8500 rpm.
Tuono 660 Factory offers a full suite of APRC electronic controls with a Ride-by-Wire electronic accelerator and six-axis inertial platform as standard, as well as the AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift), the electronic gearbox that allows for very rapid shifting without closing the throttle or using the clutch. It is also equipped with the downshift function, to allow for clutchless downshifting.
The design is further enhanced with the aggressive and sporty Factory Dark graphics and the presence of the single-seat tail fairing, painted in black and red

Aprilia RS 660 Limited Edition
Little more than a year after its market launch in October 2020, the Aprilia RS 660 is already celebrating its first major sports victory: the Italian mid-range sports bike dominated the 2021 Twins Cup, the fiercely fought US championship for mid-range twin-cylinder models and part of MotoAmerica, the United States’ premier motorcycle road racing series. To celebrate the victory,

Aprilia is presenting a special numbered edition of 1,000 RS 660 two-wheelers, featuring an original stars and stripes livery inspired by the US flag and unique features including a one-seater tailpiece cover, large-size front shield and software to invert the quick-shift configuration. This means, depending on the rider’s needs, the shift can be independently configured for road riding or inverted, ideal for track riding.

Aprilia SR GT
The first urban adventure scooter from Aprilia, to re-discover the pleasure of riding in an urban setting on a daily basis, as well as over longer distances or on lesser known roads and trails, thanks to features inspired by enduro bikes that make this two-wheeler the ideal companion in any situation. On the new Aprilia SR GT the active riding position and broad motorcycle-style naked handlebar optimise control, while the long-travel suspensions and greater above-ground height mean any obstacle encountered during city driving can be easily overcome; the broad all-terrain tyres support any type of surface, from asphalt and paving stones to dirt roads. The Aprilia SR GT is also a leader in terms of engine power and efficiency, with two state-of-the-art Euro 5 electronic injection, 4-valve, liquid-cooled units from the i-get family. In addition to the mono-cylinder 125 cc i-get engine, with a top power of 11 kW at 8,750 revs and torque of 12 Nm at 6,500 revs, the mono-cylinder 174 cc makes its debut on the Aprilia SR GT 200, delivering 13 kW at 8,500 revs and torque of 16.5 Nm at 7,000 revs. Benchmark values that guarantee elasticity, lively acceleration and smooth riding in all conditions, with highly efficient fuel consumption.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello
With the V100 Mandello, Moto Guzzi takes its first step into its second century, during which it will continue to produce magnificent motorcycles with a powerful personality. The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello opens a completely new chapter in the company’s history; it eludes conventional categorisation, combining brilliant performance with the vocation for travel that lies at the heart of every Moto Guzzi two-wheeler. This is a Moto Guzzi like never before, whose cutting-edge technology and innovative technical and aerodynamic solutions open the door to the future of the brand. The V100 Mandello is an innovative bike starting with the design which, as always, enhances the unique, inimitable twin-cylinder engine. Lines that eschew nostalgia, offering a modern take on the key points of the Moto Guzzi stylistic idiom. A watershed in the brand’s history, the bike introduces many important technological innovations: the first two-wheeler with adaptive aerodynamics, the first Moto Guzzi model to feature advanced electronic solutions such as the six-axis inertial platform, ABS cornering, semi-active suspensions and a quick shift, to name just the most important. It is also the first Moto Guzzi bike powered by the new compact-block engine with sophisticated technical characteristics. Tradition is maintained by the 90° V-twin architecture, which guarantees Moto Guzzi’s unique torque delivery and inimitable sound, but the project is completely new and offers impressively brilliant performance: power of more than 115 hp and torque of more than 105 Nm, 90% already available at 3,500 rpm. The sporty character of the bike is complemented by a compact manageable frame, while the high level of comfort provided by the generous saddle and active extended riding position confirms its aptitude for touring. Moto Guzzi technology enhances comfort and protection from the air with an electrically adjustable windshield and, a world-first, an adaptive aerodynamic system for automatic regulation of the position of the air deflectors on the sides of the fuel tank, depending on speed and the riding mode selected. The top-of-the-range electronic equipment includes an electronic ride-by-wire accelerator for finely tuned performance and consumption management, the Marelli 11MP advanced control system, the 6-axis inertial platform for optimal management of the electronic controls, cruise control, and ABS cornering for active safety when braking on bends. Four riding modes are available: Viaggio, Sport, Pioggia and Strada, each offering 3 different engine maps, 4 levels of traction control, 3 engine brake levels and (in the version where they are standard features) calibration of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspensions, with automatic moment-by-moment regulation of the hydraulics to the riding style and surface conditions, to optimise performance in any situation.

Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore
Moto Guzzi is celebrating 75 years of uninterrupted collaboration with the Corazzieri Regiment, with the presentation of the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore, a limited numbered special edition of its highly regarded classic travel enduro, which in the manufacturer’s centenary year has joined the motorcycle fleet of the regiment that provides the guard of honour of the Italian Head of State. Just like the V85 TT motorcycles recently delivered to the Quirinale Palace, the V85 TT Guardia d’Onore features the black livery with white graphics of the Corazzieri Moto Guzzi bike. The white stripes run along the front mudguard over the fuel tank and side panels, and also appear on the extra-large Touring windshield. The windshield is a standard feature, together with the central stand, engine shield bars and supplementary LED lights. A pair of side panniers are available for this model on request. The Moto Guzzi V85 TT Guardia d’Onore will be produced as a limited series of 1946 motorcycles, a number referring to the first of the 75 years of collaboration between the Mandello Eagle and the Corazzieri Regiment. An additional indication of the exclusivity of this model is the application of each bike’s serial number, from 1 to 1946, on the handlebar riser.

Piaggio 1
The Piaggio 1 combines the winning features of an up-to-the-minute e-scooter – lightweight agility for urban commuting plus essential lines and practicality – with the quality and reliability of Piaggio scooters.
This means safety first of all, thanks to a robust frame intended to ensure riding pleasure, as well as an attractive design, top-level comfort, and impressive technological features that include a digital colour instrument panel, full LED lights and a keyless system. The Piaggio 1 is also the only e-scooter in its category to provide a roomy underseat compartment, with space for a full-jet helmet. The Piaggio 1 is powered by an electric motor incorporated in the rear wheel: the moped version (Piaggio 1), with a speed of 45 km/h, delivers an output of 1.2 kW, while the motorcycle version (Piaggio 1 Active) has a 2 kW unit.
In both versions, the battery, housed below the seat, can be easily removed in seconds and carried into the home or office for recharging.

Piaggio 1 Feng Chen Wang
The collaboration between Piaggio and Feng Chen Wang, one of the most experimental and innovative stylists on the international scene today, has produced a personalised special edition of the Piaggio 1, the brand new Piaggio two-wheeler for electric urban mobility. The Feng Chen Wang special edition is distinguished by an exclusive livery where the stylist and designer, who was born in China’s south-eastern Fujian province, known for its breathtaking landscapes, combines Chinese tradition with vibrant London-style creativity.
The watercolour visually combines the natural elements of water and the symbol of the Phoenix, which in Chinese mythology represents virtue and grace, and is drawn by hand using the traditional Chinese brushstroke technique, while the colour green, also used on the seat cover and wheel rims, is a reference to Chinese native flora and universal values such as health, prosperity and harmony. Piaggio’s collaboration with Feng Chen Wang has also produced a special helmet and a capsule collection of unisex streetwear.

(VESPA ELETTRICA)RED
The partnership between the Piaggio Group and (RED), the non-profit organization founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver, sees the creation of (VESPA ELETTRICA)RED and its presentation at EICMA 2021 dressed entirely in red. The iconic red colour is more than just a bold statement – every purchase of the (VESPA ELETTRICA)RED will trigger a donation to support the Global Fund, one of the world’s largest funders of global health, to support the fight against pandemics with (RED).

(RED), named for the colour of the emergency, was founded in 2006 to turn companies into a cavalry to fight the AIDS pandemic. Today, the cavalry is also fighting the urgent threat of COVID and its devastating effects in communities where pandemics hit hardest.
Following the (VESPA 946)RED in 2017 and (VESPA PRIMAVERA)RED in 2020, the (VESPA ELETTRICA)RED is the third exclusive product to result from this longtime partnership, embodying more effectively than any other the common values of commitment to global health and respect for the environment and planet.

THE PIAGGIO GROUP CONFIRMS ITS POSITION AS EUROPEAN LEADER OF THE
SCOOTER SEGMENT

At 30 September, the Piaggio Group had a 13.2% share of the overall two-wheeler market, and was the leading player in the scooter segment with a share of 23.1%. In Italy, the Group’s overall market share is 17.9%, rising to 27.3% in the scooter segment.

Prior to EICMA 2021, the Piaggio Group reported net sales of 1,319.2 million euro for the first nine months of the year (+ 32.7% from the year-earlier period and + 9.9% from 2019) and worldwide sales volumes of 430,600 vehicles, an increase of 21.7% from 30 September 2020.

There was a strong market response to the new Aprilia RS and Aprilia Tuono bikes with 660 cc engines, and to the Moto Guzzi V7 and V85 TT.

Vespa Celebrates Its 75th Birthday And Surpasses The Milestone Of 19 Million Units Produced

Vespa celebrates 75 years and reaches the extraordinary milestone of 19 million units produced, beginning from the spring of 1946. The Vespa that celebrates the 19 million is a GTS 300 in 75th Anniversary Special Edition and was assembled in the Pontedera plant, where Vespa has been manufactured uninterrupted since 1946.

19 million Vespas translate into as many stories of guys and girls worldwide who have gained their freedom astride the most beloved two-wheeler in the world. Vespa has accompanied their lives and embodied feelings and the desire for freedom. Because Vespa is part of our culture. It is a protagonist in our lives, in the imagination of many generations of Italians, Europeans, Americans, Africans and Asians. Today, Vespa is one of those rare products that are consistently part of the landscape in our daily lives.

This extraordinary moment arrives as Vespa is experiencing one of the brightest times of its history. Sold in 83 countries on every continent, it is now the most famous and most loved two-wheeled vehicle in the world. For some time now, Vespa has far surpassed its function as an easy and elegant means of commuting to become a global brand, a symbol of Italian technology and style, capable of bringing millions of enthusiasts together in its name.

A range in constant evolution and consistently on the cutting-edge of technology, a unique style, transcending fashion and trends and skilfully reinventing itself whilst remaining faithful to its original values are just some of the reasons for a success that is measured in over 1 million and 800 thousand vehicles manufactured in the last ten years.

Halfway through the first decade of the new millennia, annual Vespa production was around 50 thousand units and, since then, constant and spectacular growth took it an excess of 100 thousand in 2007 and 200 thousand from 2018.

On the dawn of its 75 years, Vespa is more of a global brand than ever, one of the best known “Made in Italy” products, a true citizen of the world that is manufactured out of three production sites: Pontedera, with production destined for Europe, the Americas and all the western markets; Vinh Phuc, in Vietnam, which serves the local market and the Far East, and India, in the ultra-modern Baramati plant, opened in April 2012, where Vespas for the Indian and Nepalese markets are produced.

For its 75th birthday, Vespa introduces a special Vespa 75th series, available for Vespa Primavera (in the 50, 125 and 150 cc engine sizes) and for Vespa GTS(in the 125 and 300 cc engine sizes), limitedly to 2021.

The body of Vespa 75th takes on the brand new metallic Giallo 75th colour which, designed expressly for this series, reinterprets colours in a modern key that were all the rage in the forties. The number 75 appears on the side panels and front mudguard in a more accentuated shade, creating an elegant tone-on-tone, as well on the front, where the traditional “necktie” is refined in a matte yellow pyrite colour.

A unique history

Vespa was born out of the desire to create an innovative product for individual mobility. First a “motor scooter” was built on the model of small motorcycles for parachutists and then a prototype that revolutionised the concept that had dominated the classic motorcycling layout until then. A vehicle was created with a stress-bearing body, direct-drive, with the gear shift on the handlebar. The classic front fork disappeared in favour of a single-sided swingarm that made tyre changes easier and, above all, the frame disappeared, replaced by a stress-bearing body capable of protecting the rider from dirt and rumpled clothing. The Vespa design patent filing date is 23 April 1946.

From its first appearance – in a country where everything needed to be rebuilt but, partly for this reason, full of ideas, creativity and hope – Vespa represented the joy of living and racing toward the future and this is why it soon became an icon of freedom and emancipation for guys and girls all over the world. This wealth of Vespa’s values was accompanied throughout the years by a style and technology always on the cutting-edge in the various decades of its life.

After the years of rebirth, Vespa continued to strengthen its legendary status, fortifying its identity through the decades of economic prosperity and the generational renewal of the sixties. As cars and mass motorisation spread, Vespa offered salvation from traffic, with the versions in the smaller engine sizes catering to the legendary world of youth which, precisely in those years, was gaining its space in society. And when, in the ‘70s, the signs of a growing ecological awareness arrived, Vespa was the antidote to city pollution, able to zip through traffic and easily find parking.

In the various eras it has seen, Vespa has always represented the cutting-edge of technology. Characterised by an extremely advanced stress-bearing body concept, still built entirely out of steel to this day, it marked the evolution of individual mobility. Today, the latest Vespa vehicles, equipped with ecological engines and technical solutions to support modern riding, represent the style synthesis of an evolution that has made Vespa design immortal, ensuring it is an icon of Italian elegance the world over.

Vespa 946 Christian Dior: Birth Of A New Icon, An Ode To Joie De Vivre

Dior joins forces with Vespa to create an exclusive scooter and a range of matching accessories, celebrating the sunny-spirit and art of living of the two houses.

Founded in the same year, in 1946, the Italian brand and the Parisian couture house are linked by an unwavering desire to inspire a new, bright and creative vision of the world.

Today, more than ever, the Dior and Vespa collaboration reinvents this spirit of freedom, movement and expression that drives them.

Odyssey(s), style, dreams and Dolce Vita.

Out of this passionate dialogue, the Vespa 946 Christian Dior scooter comes to life, its monohull architecture and subtle graphic lines paying tribute to the heritage of the two houses. A symbol of refinement, this object of desire reflects their shared commitment to the excellence of savoir-faire and virtuoso art of detail.

A contemporary version of the iconic Vespa 946 – presented in 2012 in Milan and recognized for its elegant, streamlined curves and technological innovation – the new model was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior women’s collections. The scooter is made in Italy, adhering to the exacting standards, commitment and precision of a couture atelier.

Echoing the design of the saddle, a top case patterned with the Dior Oblique motif – designed by Marc Bohan in 1967 – is specially designed to be fixed on the luggage rack, adding a distinctive allure. A helmet adorned with the same iconic motif rounds out the unique range.

Symbols of escape to new horizons, these limited-edition creations will launch in spring 2021 in Dior boutiques around the world and subsequently in a selection of Piaggio Group’s Motoplex stores.

2020 Vespa Elettrica

Silent, connected, customisable. The best technology has never been so cool. All the values of Vespa come together in Vespa Elettrica and the debut of the new 70 km/h version at EICMA 2019.

It’s not an electric scooter, it’s a Vespa Elettrica, a work of art with the highest technological content, symbolising both our modernity and the years to come.

Vespa Elettrica is the most modern icon of Italian technology. It is synonymous with advanced connectivity and quiet operation, customisation and accessibility, respect for the environment and unique style. Vespa has always embodied these values, now fully expressed in Vespa Elettrica, confirming its status as a brand that has always been ahead of its time.

Vespa Elettrica, with its easy, or rather, natural ride, is the highest expression of Piaggio Group’s research into electric mobility. The group aims to respond to growing environmental concerns, providing technological solutions for an increasingly sustainable and liveable urban habitat.

Always an innovator, Vespa Elettrica continues to evolve: alongside the original version, created for purely urban use and therefore homologated as a moped, with a top speed of 45 km/h, EICMA 2019 sees the début of the Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h.

Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h: even more powerful and silent

Silent, ecological, innovative and today even more powerful: fruit of the Piaggio Group’s experience with the Power Unit and lithium-ion battery, the Vespa Elettrica is now also available in the brand new 70 km/h version.

The higher performance of the Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h, homologated as a motorcycle, is due to a general optimisation of all components: Power Unit, Vehicle Management System and battery pack. The result is a higher top speed with no change to Vespa Elettrica’s typically sharp acceleration and with an almost identical range. In ECO mode, at a top speed of 45 km/h, the Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h provides the same maximum range of up to 100 km, while in Power mode it can travel for up to 70 km.

The battery retains the size and weight of the original version, but has been modified to deliver a higher continuous power output, something also assisted by improvements to the electric motor’s control software. These developments have made it possible to lengthen the final transmission ratio, providing a number of advantages: a higher speed, with the same performance in terms of acceleration and standing start, and also quieter operation, with a lower rpm at the same speed.

Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h stands out for specific stylistic details: the front shock absorber spring is painted red, as are the decorations on the cover of the Power Unit and the ‘Elettrica’ nameplate.

I am the power

The heart of Vespa Elettrica is a Power Unit capable of delivering continuous power of 3.6 kW and peak power of 4 kW: values that, combined with a torque of over 200 Nm, provide superior performance to a traditional 50 cc scooter, especially in terms of acceleration and uphill power which benefits from the typical brilliant delivery of electric motors. This results in an agile and enjoyable ride on urban routes in total silence. In fact, Vespa Elettrica is completely silent, helping to make cities less chaotic and more liveable, countering pollution even in terms of noise.

Vespa Elettrica guarantees a maximum range of up to 100 km, a value that does not change significantly on a rural route, thanks to a modern lithium ion battery and an efficient Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), which charges it in the deceleration phases. Charging operations are the simplest thing imaginable: the lithium-ion battery, just like the one in modern smartphones, needs no special precautions. To charge, simply extract the cable from the seat compartment, where the fuel cap is usually located, and plug in to a normal wall outlet or one of the growing number of public charging stations in big cities. The standard time required for a full charge is 4 hours (with voltage of 220 V).

As further confirmation of how extremely easy user-friendly Vespa Elettrica is, the motor and battery pack are completely maintenance-free. The battery provides excellent efficiency for up to 1000 full charging cycles. This translates into a range of between 50,000 and 70,000 km, equivalent to approximately 10 years of operation for a vehicle intended for urban commuting. Even after the thousand charging cycles, the battery still maintains 80% of its capacity and is perfectly usable. Located under the helmet compartment, the compact battery pack does not compromise the functionality of the Vespa Elettrica seat compartment, which can hold a Jet helmet.

The Ride-by-Wire electronic accelerator controls the power output of Vespa Elettrica’s motor. By pressing the MAP button on the right hand side of the handlebar, the rider can choose between two riding modes: ECO and Power, in addition to Reverse mode for easier handling of Vespa Elettrica while manoeuvring. ECO mode, intended to save energy, extends battery life; speed is limited to 30 km/h (45 km/h for the motorcycle version) and acceleration is more progressive. However, Power is the basic riding mode which fully exploits the power of the motor.

Vespa Elettrica, connected to the world

Vespa Elettrica is not just a silent, ecological and technologically advanced vehicle; It is also, and above all, connected. The many features offered by a new version of the Vespa Multimedia Platform, the multimedia system that connects a smartphone to the vehicle, can be managed through a man-machine interface incorporating a digital instrument panel with a 4.3 inch colour TFT display, always easy to read thanks to the twilight sensor that adapts the background and colour of the characters to the light conditions (day/night mode) and the four adjustable brightness levels.

The extensive information displayed is arranged in a very impressive and extremely rational graphic diagram. The centre of the screen always contains the main information such as speed, selected riding modes, residual range in km and battery charge level (%), while the ecological riding quality and the level of energy used or recovered during the ride are indicated on either side. But it is using the dedicated Vespa App on your smartphone and connecting it to the vehicle – via Bluetooth – that lets you take full advantage of the capabilities of the TFT display on which all notifications of incoming calls and messages appear, highly visible in the centre.

The system also allows you to use the handlebar buttons to answer calls and to use the smartphone’s voice commands to make calls or play music from your own playlist. To fully enjoy all these features, easily managed through the handy joystick on the right control block, a special dedicated Jet helmet with built-in earphones and Bluetooth intercom is available for Vespa Elettrica as an optional accessory.

Of course, the predisposition for connection to the outside world is not limited to the various Infotainment functions. thanks to the dedicated Vespa App, once connected to Vespa Elettrica, your smartphone becomes an exceptional source of parameters in real time, as well as other useful information on vehicle use, including trip time and distance, battery charge use percentage, statistics on the last 30 trips, push notifications on the battery charge status, number of recharge cycles carried out and much more.

Vespa Elettrica is always unique and customisable

Vespa Elettrica is designed with the same unmistakable lines that have made Vespa an icon of style and elegance around the globe and won the hearts of entire generations of young people.

The body shape, strictly in steel in accordance with the best Vespa tradition, is emphasised by an exclusive dedicated livery: In fact, Vespa Elettrica comes in a special grey finish, around which the customer can choose to tailor many distinctive details. In fact, the profile that runs along the entire perimeter of the shield, the ‘neck tie’ decoration, the edge of the wheel rims, the profile of the ‘Elettrica’ nameplate and the seat trim are available in six colour variants: Azzurro Electrical (standard on Vespa Elettrica), Verde Boreale, Giallo Lampo, Cromo, Nero Profondo and Grigio Fumo.

Comfort benefits from a seat made of a material capable of providing maximum comfort for rider and passenger, as well as perfect ergonomics. The remote control key has a built-in Bike Finder feature (flashes the turn indicators) and a seat compartment opening function, while the inside of the compartment in the leg shield back plate contains a USB socket for charging smartphones or other mobile devices.

All the Vespa accessories

As with every Vespa, Vespa Elettrica can also be customised and made into a unique piece, following the personality of the rider, thanks to a rich range of accessories: The dedicated top box, painted entirely in the same colour as the vehicle and enhanced by the chromed Vespa badge, can hold a full-face helmet. The top box can be finished with a backrest, covered in the same material as the seat. The chromium-plated base where the top box is mounted can also be used as a luggage rack.

Maximum protection is provided by a windshield made of high quality anti-splinter methacrylate, customised with the Vespa logo; the support brackets are made with a chrome finish in line with the other aesthetic details. Vespa Elettrica can also be fitted with a top fairing – available both transparent and smoked – that elegantly rounds off the front design of the vehicle.

The classic chromium front and rear luggage racks are also available for Vespa Elettrica. The front side and rear chrome mudguards elegantly finish the vehicle and protect the bodywork. A hand crafted black leather bag, 100% Made in Italy, which can accommodate a jet helmet with visor can be easily fastened to the rear luggage rack.

The accessories range also includes the special jet Tech helmet dedicated to Vespa Elettrica that combines style and maximum practicality with a built-in bluetooth headset so you can take full advantage of the VESPA MIA system. To go with the helmet, goggles are also available that stand out for the mirrored lenses derived from the world of skiing and other new finishes. The demi-jet Vespa VJ Special Edition Vespa Elettrica helmet is also available, customisable to match the colour of your vehicle.

Another novelty is the original backpack with LED piping that can be taken apart and used as an internal bag for the top box and backrest with built-in helmet bag. Equipped with a special laptop compartment and a power bank for charging mobile devices, the backpack is also available in an innovative reflective fabric that matches Vespa Elettrica’s typical chrome grey colour.

The range of Vespa Elettrica accessories is also enriched by the convenient side-stand – in black-painted steel to make parking easier, an outdoor cover and an indoor “big logo” cover, both with convenient openings to accommodate any accessories, and a non-slip rubber mat.

The Vespa Elettrica is also available with a smartphone holder, equipped with a practical fixing system to the rear-view mirror and available in various sizes compatible with the most common devices. The range of accessories is completed by the handlebar-saddle ’mechanical antitheft device and a line of customised mechanical anti-theft systems. The Vespa Elettrica leg cover bears a metal Vespa logo and provides maximum stability even at high speeds. The saddle cover and anti-theft device are integrated in the accessory

The front headlight with LED technology and the rear light cluster give an even more distinct personality to Vespa Elettrica, which adopts generous 12″ front and 11″ rear aluminium alloy rims.

The range of accessories is completed by the handlebar-saddle ’mechanical  anti-theft device and a line of customised mechanical anti-theft systems. The essential mittens and leg covers are practical and fast to fit, made of thermal material to provide excellent protection from the weather. The Vespa Elettrica leg cover bears a metal Vespa logo and provides maximum stability even at high speeds. The saddle cover and anti-theft device are integrated in the accessory.

Vespa And Sean Wotherspoon Announce Partnership

Sean Wotherspoon and Vespa have announced a partnership to create a new style: bold, irreverent and fun, for those who express a unique and youthful spirit in and beyond the metropolitan environment.

The Piaggio Group has always had a keen eye for the ever-changing tastes, trends, and experiences that motivate and inspire today’s generations. It keeps a special focus on the United States, where fashions are often born and spread to the rest of the world. Here, and more precisely in California, it has found the right partner to share and implement innovative ideas.

Sean Wotherspoon is one of the rising stars of youth fashion in the USA. Pure energy, unstoppable and curious; a forerunner, an experimenter, a fanatic of street culture and of everything it can encompass.

Instagram is the world through which he communicates and shares his passion, and his almost one million followers adore him.

As the Nike Air Max 97 sneakers that made him famous testify, Wotherspoon plays with colors, mixing them together and adding innovative and sometimes unlikely materials together with the most disparate fabrics.

Promoting this culture of color is today the mission of Sean Wotherspoon and the endeavor with Vespa seemed the most natural thing in the world. The idea that immediately fascinated the designer starts from a “vintage” soul perfectly revisited in a contemporary key, as the DNA of the Vespa brand demands.

The partnership aims to create around the brand a community of individuals who want to have fun not only with personal fashion tastes, but also, and above all, by making style and carefree enjoyment their primary colors on the streets. No brand outside of Vespa could interpret this challenge better and more consistently.

So Wotherspoon will define the aesthetic standards of a special and limited-edition Vespa Primavera further complimented with a dedicated helmet and an exclusive streetwear capsule collection.

The first results of this creative process will be presented in November 2019 at EICMA in Milan, with the collection, that is already exciting Vespa enthusiasts and fans of Sean Wotherspoon, being released globally in Spring 2020.

Sean Wotherspoon did not hide his enthusiasm about the partnership: “Based on their immense history and heritage I’m beyond excited to start work with Vespa/Piaggio. I’m going to dig as deep as possible to help re-create these memories and re-imagine them through my lens to share with everyone! This is going to be insane! Stay tuned!”

“We are delighted to begin working with Sean,” said Michele Colaninno. “He is one of the most gifted and creative designers in the USA. We immediately struck up a great rapport and there is no question that something spectacular will come out of this. And it could only happen here in California, where the new trends that influence lifestyles across the world originate. This is only the beginning of a series of collaborations starting soon that will bring Vespa and our other fantastic brands like Moto Guzzi and Aprilia into ever greater contact with the world of design and fashion, where they naturally belong.”

About Sean Wotherspoon

In 2013, Sean along with two friends opened Round Two in Richmond, Virginia, a store destined to become legendary in a matter of months. Today, there are Round Two stores in all the leading US cities. The passion for sneakers and sportswear of the past decades, the love for creativity and color that characterized the 80s and 90s and then a revolutionary and irrepressible creative verve are the basis of a global success that led Sean to collaborate first with Nike and then with giants like Disney, Prince, Lacoste and Galleries Lafayette.
