Launch of The Roof Boxxer 2 Modular Helmet

Launch of the Roof Boxxer 2 modular helmet, between heritage and innovation.

It is a revolution in continuity. The long-awaited renewal of an iconic helmet model for generations of bikers. Don’t we all have in our hearts a Boxer that we have one day seen, worn, sometimes never left again?

For the year of its 30th anniversary, Claude Morin and the entire ROOF product development team worked to launch the ROOF Boxxer 2. A notable development without altering the style of a model whose appeal defies the laws of time.

Almost 30 years after its birth, the star 180° modular helmet from the French manufacturer ROOF is evolving, for our greatest pleasure…and yours.

Switching to the new standard: an engineering challenge
The new E22.06 standard is a challenge, especially for modular helmets. The new impact and tearing tests are forcing manufacturers to reinforce the shell of their modular helmets, without ever making the safety offered by E22.05 helmets obsolete. Result, for a majority of the models launched or under development, an increase in volume and weight gain… But not for the ROOF Boxxer 2.

Indeed, to face this technological challenge and not change the size and weight of the helmet following the transition to the new standard, ROOF was inspired by the technology embedded in its high-end racing helmet, the ROOF RO200 Carbon . Thus, several distinct cushioning zones have been developed in order to save the necessary grams while maintaining a level of safety that is difficult to match for a modular helmet.

Double approval: the development of a specific patent.
The new E22.06 standard also requires equipment manufacturers to offer a system, on their modular helmets, allowing the chin guard to be kept open in the Jet position during all tests. This is to prevent possible risks of injury if the chin guard closes suddenly, during an impact, for example.

ROOF therefore worked on these specifications also having the objectives of taking into consideration the particular case of new rotational impact tests, and also of proposing a discreet, retractable device, which provides a plus in terms of design . Thus, the exclusive patented FlexLocker system was born.

Designed as a security and differentiation accessory.
While looks and designs are a matter of choice, the same must not be true for safety and comfort in everyday use. After having produced more than a million modular helmets in 30 years, ROOF has been able to develop its iconic product, to constantly adjust safety and comfort. The main product characteristics in terms of insulation, already present on the previous generation, can be found on the ROOF Boxxer 2. The only modular fiberglass helmet on the market has also seen its ventilation systems evolve and the design of the side panels offering increased soundproofing and comfort.

Also possible on the previous generation, the installation of an intercom is, on the ROOF Boxxer 2, even easier thanks to slots provided for this purpose, in particular for one of the best sellers on the market.

Resolutely modern
The evolution of design is played out in the details. Tighter lines, running edges on the shell and the chin guard, give the ROOF Boxxer 2 a modern and sporty style.

The choice of colors for this ROOF Boxxer 2 was based on current trends in design and also pop culture.

The ROOF Boxxer 2 helmet will be offered at the recommended retail price of €499 from September 4, 2023.

Moto Guzzi V7 Stone Corsa

An emblem of the Italian motorcycle for almost seventy years, Moto Guzzi V7 continues to reinvent itself, maintaining its unmistakable features and an authenticity that make it unique.

The most recent interpretation of the legendary V7, the new Moto Guzzi V7 Stone Corsa, was unveiled as a surprise during Moto Guzzi Open House 2023, capturing the attention of the thousands of fans who turned out in Mandello for the most eagerly awaited event by Guzzisti all over the world.

Moto Guzzi V7 Stone Corsa represents a bold return to a classic sportiness. Its soft lines stand out straight away, flowing from the top fairing and the single-seater style saddle, both bringing to mind the exciting atmosphere of races from days gone by.

Vibrations that emanate from authentic motorcycling, animated by genuine passion, and which have come back to life since 2019 in the Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance, the single-brand trophy that gives many riders the chance to race on the track, having fun astride their own V7 machines, highlighting its unexpected racing features.

The new V7 Stone Corsa stands out with its brand new two-tone livery, also a tribute to the golden age of motorcycle racing. The metallic grey colour scheme is livened up by an aggressive red stripe that runs vertically along the top fairing, then continuing along the lower part of the fuel tank and on the side panels. Colour coded to match the body, the hard cover for the rear portion of the saddle is available as an accessory, making it a true single-seater in pure racing style.

The equipment package also includes “bar end” rear-view mirrors, which give the V7 Stone Corsa an even sleeker and more dynamic profile, as well as the billet black anodised aluminium fuel cap. In line with the minimalist look, which is the distinctive trait of all V7 versions, the front fork has no bellows, whereas a plate on the handlebar riser identifies the special edition.

Moto Guzzi V7 Stone was also unveiled at Open House 2023 in the new Verde Camo colour scheme, which will be available alongside the Rosso Rovente, Grigio Alluminio, Giallo Metallico, and Nero Ruvido colour schemes.

Europe’s largest free motorcycle festival celebrates 120 years of Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson® returned to the beautiful lakeside festival setting of Faaker See in Carinthia, Austria (September 5-10, 2023) in what was a truly iconic year for European Bike Week (EBW).

Approximately 100,000 people and more than 70,000 motorcycles joined the festival in the Austrian village of Faak am See to celebrate Harley-Davidson at an event free of charge and open to all riders.

EBW in 2023 was an extra-special celebration marking three milestone anniversaries for the American motorcycle brand. It signalled a major highlight of the year-long 120th anniversary celebrations of Harley-Davidson. 2023 also marks the 40th anniversary of Harley Owners Group® and the 25th Anniversary of the first Harley-Davidson European Bike Week event at Faaker See, in 1999. This significant milestone called for a combined celebration, which included giving festivalgoers the opportunity to conquer the most beautiful roads in Carinthia and neighbouring Slovenia on free tours guided by the H.O.G. Kärnten Chapter.

The future of this iconic event was also sealed during this European Bike Week and the brand’s special relationship with the Carinthia region. Harley-Davidson is delighted to announce it is formally extending its direct partnership with the region to continue delivering European Bike Week annually through 2030.

Kolja Rebstock, Harley-Davidson VP for Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “European Bike Week is one of our biggest events of the year, and we are pleased to be able to confirm our commitment to running this magical event through to 2030. Delivering lifestyle experiences like European Bike Week to our customers and motorcycle fans is what makes our brand so unique.”

As a mark of Harley-Davidson’s continued commitment and to build on the already strong presence in the area, a new Harley Boulevard was opened in honour of the extended relationship. This new spot adds to the existing Harley-Davidson landmarks including the iconic lakeside ‘Harleywood’ sign and the legendary biker sculpture on the main road from Villach.

Festival-goers had the opportunity to explore the heart of the celebrations in the Harley Village – a site of around 40,000 m² – filled with authorised Harley-Davidson® Dealerships from across Europe, as well as a variety of other traders offering accessories and apparel. Those looking for entertainment did not have to look far as the party atmosphere was felt across the site, including the newly designed Saloon Bar and Harley Bar, as well as two stages rocking with 25 international artists.

The Harley-Davidson EXPO featured the latest motorcycles from the iconic brand, including the newly launched CVO™ Street Glide® and CVO™ Road Glide®, the most technologically advanced Harley-Davidson Grand American Touring motorcycles ever made, which pulled in a large and excited crowd.

The H-D Demo Zone was fully booked throughout the festival, with over 1,700 riders having the opportunity to test out the latest models. A true highlight for many was the Pan America™ Adventure Zone, a technical off-road area right at the heart of the site with Dakar legends Joan Pedrero (Spain) and Mick Extance (UK) and off-road expert and instructor Ralf Wiesenfeller (Germany) providing demonstrations, dynamic displays, rider tuition and in-depth off-road tutorials.

The Custom Bike Show sponsored by Metzeler took place in the Customizer Area. Around 78 custom creations were registered across six categories, with trophies awarded for Best in Category, Best in Show and People’s Choice. Best in Show was unanimously awarded by the panel of judges to Mirko Perugini from Italy, for his beautiful creation incorporating a very early motorcycle-era vee-twin engine. Continuing the tradition of prizes, Saturday night saw lucky participant Boris Zanki from Split in Croatia win the Sportster S on stage in front of a huge crowd at the H-D plaza.

10,000 riders took to the roads around Carinthia from Lake Faak, Villach and Finkenstein during the parade on Saturday, making it one of the largest and most celebrated motorcycle parades in Europe.

Harley-Davidson celebrations continue next year with the 30th edition of the Annual European H.O.G. Rally, a free event open to all riders which will take place in the historic town of Senigallia, Italy from June 6-9, 2024. The outstanding location is less than two hours from Bologna and features iconic renaissance architecture, a stunning coastline surrounded by rolling hills and winding roads, making it a perfect location to plan a tour to in 2024.

European Bike Week will return to Faak am See, September 3-8, 2024.

Akrapovič Releases Exhausts for Honda XL750 Transalp and CB750 Hornet

Honda CB750 Hornet
Akrapovič has added two more aftermarket exhausts to its Honda collection with the launch of a Slip-On Line (Titanium) for the Honda XL750 Transalp and a Slip-On Line (Carbon) for the Honda CB750 Hornet.

Both exhausts have been created using race-proven materials, with the Slip-On Line (Titanium) for the Honda XL750 Transalp featuring a black-coated outer sleeve on the muffler, a newly designed end cap, and a bracket, all made from lightweight titanium. These are accompanied by a stainless-steel link pipe and muffler inner structure. The Slip-On Line (Carbon) for the Honda CB750 Hornet is built with a hand-crafted carbon-fibre muffler outer sleeve and a stainless-steel inner structure and link pipe, all leading to a titanium end cap with a new design featuring imprints for a sporty look.

During the development process for the Slip-On Line (Titanium), the Akrapovič engineers focused intensely on throttle response and rideability. This has led to performance gains in the mid and high rev ranges, with an increase in power of 0.7 kW (0.9 hp) and a torque enhancement of 1.3 Nm – both at 5,700 rpm – when compared to a standard stock system and tested on the Akrapovič in-house dyno.

Honda XL750 Transalp

The Slip-On Line (Carbon) also focuses on power and torque gains, especially in the mid- and high-range revs. Increases of 0.5 kW (0.7 hp) at 5,250 rpm and 0.6 Nm at 5,300 rpm have been recorded when compared to a Honda CB750 Hornet equipped with a standard stock system and tested on the Akrapovič in-house dyno.

The use of lightweight materials reduces the weight of the Slip-On Line (Titanium) exhaust by 39.8% (1.6 kg) and of the Slip-On Line (Carbon) system by 45.6% (1.8 kg) in comparison to the standard exhausts.

These EC/ECE type-approved Euro 5 systems need no remapping. They are just a plug-and-play installation and, once on the bike – and with the throttle open – they deliver up a deep, sporty, and vivid Akrapovič sound. They are also fully compatible with the original Honda soft panniers.

This pair of new exhausts is available now. They will not only add a touch of personalization to their machines, but also reduce weight and deliver a distinctive Akrapovič sound.

Sidecar for Rebels

New Watsonian sidecar fitting kit for the Honda Rebel CMX1100

Watsonian have developed a fitting kit to attach any of the sidecars in their range to the Honda Rebel CMX1100.

The kit features four powder-coated tubular steel arms with clamps that bolt onto specially selected points on the cruiser’s frame. This is essential to ensure the sidecar can be fitted with the correct axle lead, toe-in and lean-out, for optimum stability and predictable handling.

All parts are manufactured by Watsonian in their Cotswold factory, where they also build their sidecars.

The Rebel 1100 is pictured with the lightweight Watsonian Prescott sidecar. The body shell is manufactured from fibreglass, with a gloss gelcoat finish, and it sits on a steel platform chassis, with independent suspension. A 16″ spoke wheel is fitted as standard, with an option to fit a 17″ cast alloy wheel. The Brooklands style aeroscreen shields the cockpit and the upholstered seat folds down to give access to the luggage space behind.

The Honda Rebel CMX1100 fitting kit costs £595 (including VAT) and prices for the Prescott sidecar start at £5395. Watsonian offer a full factory fitting service if required.

Aprilia RS 457, A New Chapter In The Aprilia RS Saga

The Aprilia RS 457 seeks to become the new technological and stylistic benchmark for young motorcyclists worldwide, the new key to the Aprilia version of the sporting world.

The RS 457 is a historic step for Aprilia and not only in technological terms. Indeed, Aprilia’s new twin-cylinder sports bike appeals to new targets and markets to meet the growing worldwide demand for easy but fun, technologically and stylistically groundbreaking motorbikes targeting broad market segments.

Michele Colaninno – Piaggio Group CEO
“In recent years, the Aprilia brand has seen an intense burst of renewal, also supported by continued progress in the racing world.

The recent introduction of the 660 family, with RS and Tuono first and Tuareg later, has expanded its target, creating a full and competitive range. We are now ready to take another step towards the future with an astonishing bike developed entirely in Noale, capable of stimulating and thrilling young people and opening up huge potential in new markets, near and far. It is a step closer to the globalisation of a brand that has always had the perfect combination of technology, fun, and looking to the future in its DNA.”

The RS acronym represents Aprilia’s take on sportiness. These motorbikes are designed to amaze, with innovations derived from a long and successful racing history that has shaped Aprilia’s unique motorbike culture. Thus, Aprilia became the dream object of entire generations, indulging the passion of younger riders with extraordinary motorbikes.

At the same time, it has been a leading player in the racing world, dominating the 2-stroke categories. After reaffirming its technological supremacy by winning SBK competitions, it has also risen to prominence in MotoGP.

Now, Aprilia returns to its founding mission with a project for a new generation of motorcyclists, pooling the knowledge accumulated on tracks worldwide.

Starting in 2020, the massive success of the Aprilia RS 660 (Europe’s best-selling sports bike) has revolutionised the world of mid-range sports bikes, creating a new segment.

The same winning formula is repeated with the Aprilia RS 457, which began as a completely new project, conceived and developed where all Aprilias are created, including MotoGP bikes. The new Aprilia is the ideal link between the first 125 engines and the RS 660. It completes the RS family that includes the powerful V4 superbikes and, at its most technologically advanced, the MotoGP-winning RS-GP.

The Aprilia RS 457 speaks the language of younger riders, of people who want to start riding faired bikes, exploiting all of the company’s expertise to design and build a true sports bike.

This motorbike’s strengths are its lightness, with the highest possible power-to-weight ratio for a bike you can ride with an A2 licence, ease of handling, and technological equipment. The RS 457 is designed to accompany motorcyclists as they progress on road and track. The ergonomics feature clip-on handlebars mounted above the upper steering plate, a road sports solution that provides the best compromise between sportiness and riding comfort.

The new RS 457’s styling follows the legendary RS range, the supersport bikes that made motorbike history, starting with the double front fairing through to the underbelly silencer, with a 2-in-1 exhaust.

The full LED front headlamp incorporates the light signature typical of Aprilia’s larger super sports bikes, while the front turn signals are integrated into the front headlamp’s light signature. The dashboard uses an elegant and practical 5-inch TFT colour instrument cluster, while the handlebar controls are backlit.

The Aprilia RS 457 is powered by a state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled parallel twin-cylinder engine, double camshaft timing and four valves per cylinder, delivering 35 kW of power, the maximum possible for a bike you can ride with an A2 license. Besides the pure power figure, there is also the motorbike’s weight: 159 kg dry, rising to 175 wet.

The Aprilia RS 457’s power-to-weight ratio is simply unbeatable because the designers at Noale aimed for the maximum possible and achieved it. This figure was translated into pure performance during road development at Aprilia’s Noale headquarters.

The new engine is paired with a stiff frame. The aluminium frame makes the RS 457 unique for bikes in its segment. All of Aprilia’s design expertise, honed over decades of victories on all the world’s racetracks, goes into this solution. The crankcase functions as a load-bearing element, a solution borrowed from the RS 660, which ensures the low weight, dynamic qualities and riding pleasure that have made Aprilia famous.

The ø41 mm fork features 120 mm travel and preload adjustability. Ditto for the monoshock, which works on the steel swingarm, adjustable in preload, for 130 mm wheel travel. The braking system features a 320 mm front disc with a ByBre radial-mount 4-piston caliper.

At the rear, the ByBre caliper brakes a 220 mm steel disc. All this is assisted by a two-channel ABS system with dual map of use, on both wheels or only on the front.

The 17-inch sports rims mount 110/70 tyres at the front and 150/60 at the rear, perfect sizes for excellent grip while maintaining agility, the true strength of the new Aprilia.

The Aprilia RS 457’s electronic equipment is of a true sports bike, designed for a wide range of bikers and entirely faithful to Aprilia tradition. The Ride by Wire system – which Aprilia was the first to introduce both in MotoGP with the futuristic RS Cube and in production – manages the engine with three riding modes that intervene on power and torque delivery and traction control, adjustable to three levels and that can also be disabled. The quickshifter comes as an accessory

The personal contacts stored on the smartphone can be used directly on the navigator for telephone and routing functions.

The new BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Navigator is available as of now and simply needs to be clicked into the holder of the navigation preparation and locked with the motorcycle key.

GASGAS Unveils Its Revised Trials Line-Up For 2024

All six models available to order this September, from authorised GASGAS dealers worldwide.
One year on from launching the best GASGAS trials bikes ever made, GASGAS is heading full steam into 2024 with an updated line-up, based on the already proven model range. Each of the two TXT GP models have received some tasty upgrades while our four tried, tested and much-loved TXT RACING bikes remain every bit as awesome and super fun to ride.
  • GASGAS unveils its awesome 2024 six bike trials line-up
  • Rideability and performance of the TXT GP bikes taken to new levels
  • All six models available from official GASGAS dealers worldwide from September

It only seems like yesterday that GASGAS unveiled the latest and greatest generation of trials bikes. But now, 12 months on, and the best just got better. The bold, modern, and instantly recognisable 2024 bikes are here, with their distinctive red livery. Beyond their easy-on-the-eye appearance, these 2-strokes are the real deal. GASGAS knows that trials riders worldwide absolutely love the unmatched rideability of each bike, which is a result of their agile handling and compact, powerful motors.

For 2024, performance has certainly been spiced up on the TXT GP 250 and TXT GP 300 models. The first thing that draws attention, both visually and while riding, is the Akrapovic exhaust pipe. Made from high-grade titanium, the header pipe is not only 350 grams lighter, but between 2,000rpm and 7,000rpm, there’s a noticeable boost to power, which makes scaling the biggest obstacles even easier than before.

Handling wise, the TXT GP models retain the fully adjustable Tech3 shock that now features a 25% larger reservoir for increased oil capacity. The reason for this revision is simple – less heat builds up which makes damping much more consistent and predictable, even through the gnarliest of technical sections.

Rounding off the exciting changes to both TXT GP bikes are the new, FIM-approved brake discs front and rear, a new gear lever – designed with a shorter tip that’s better at preventing mud from building up, as well as fresh new graphics taken straight from the GASGAS Factory Racing bikes.

Offering next-level rideability, the GASGAS TXT RACING models deliver unrivaled performance and with four popular engine sizes – 125cc, 250cc, 280cc and 300cc – the 2024 range really does offer something for everyone! Each of these models, as well as the TXT GP range, are assembled inside the state-of-the-art GASGAS production facility in Terrassa, Spain, and fitted with quality components throughout. The hottest around when it comes to high-performance trial bikes, the 2024 GASGAS TXT RACING range lets trial riders of all ages and abilities do their thing with serious style.

The 2023 Royal Enfield Bullet – New Heart. Same Beat.

A gleaming symbol of limitless resilience and an enduring name in motorcycling and automotive history, the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 continues its legendary legacy in a new avatar as Royal Enfield, the global leader in the mid-size (250cc-750cc) motorcycle segment, today announced the launch of the 2023 Bullet 350.

Introduced on Royal Enfield’s proven, super-refined and smooth J-series engine platform, this iconic motorcycle, with over nine decades of heritage, proudly continues to be a fusion of resilient aesthetics and craftsmanship, the vibrant culture it has catalysed over the last nine decades, and the community and characters it represents.

Reminiscing about his memories with the Bullet at this significant juncture of its journey, Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director – Eicher Motors Ltd, said, “The summer ‘94 was when I rode solo across Europe, fearless and adventurous, on a Bullet 500. Many before me, and many after me have perhaps traversed the same journey, literally and figuratively, but it was my most memorable experience. Undoubtedly, while the Bullet has been a definitive towering symbol of what we call pure motorcycling for generations of riders, it has also been a crucial part of Royal Enfield’s history. From being a resilient, undiluted character of the communities that have adopted this iconic machine, the Bullet has become a beloved badge of honour and identity for many riders and automotive enthusiasts. Today, as the Bullet rides ahead in a new avatar, we are truly honoured to be able to play a key role in taking its legacy forward.”

If ever there was a motorcycle that has stood the test of time, it is the legendary Royal Enfield Bullet. When unveiled in 1932, its advanced features were at the forefront of motorcycle design. Radically updated in 1948, its groundbreaking swinging arm rear suspension took the motorcycling world by storm and all other motorcycle manufacturers quickly followed suit.

Its prowess over the toughest terrain, success in service with the Indian armed forces and subsequent move to production in Madras in 1955, kickstarted its stellar rise to become, for decades, the king of India’s roads. Its 2010 reinvention, with Royal Enfield’s seminal UCE engine, ensured it continued to be aspirational, as both a motorcycling and a cultural icon.

There is little that cannot be done on a Bullet! Over its remarkable lifespan Bullets have undertaken almost every task imaginable including championing in trials and International Six Days Trials competitions, setting lap records on the Isle of Man, conquering the highest mountain passes, being a trusted companion on every kind of trip, from weekend getaways to round-the-world adventures, employed as a dependable commuter and hardy workhorse, being used as a versatile platform for customisation, going into battle and being a loyal partner to more than a million passionate riders around the globe.

Not only is the Bullet the longest-running motorcycle model in production anywhere in the world, but it has also become a part of India’s social fabric, an heirloom handed down from one generation to the next and has spawned more than 1000 riders’ clubs. For these loyal enthusiasts, Bullet Meri Jaan (‘Bullet Is My Life’) is not just a grainy video and catchy song, but embodies a powerful symbolism that represents authenticity, stoicism, dependability and individuality.

And now this most practical, all-purpose motorcycle takes its unique heritage, majestic stance, rock-solid handling, torquey engine with a thumping heartbeat and simple, uncluttered looks, into an exciting new epoch.

Speaking about the launch of the new 2023 Bullet, B Govindarajan, CEO, Royal Enfield said “To me, the Bullet has been an undeniable symbol of resilient engineering and aesthetics. It has endured war and peace with unflinching reliability and has been an ally for over 90 years to the bravest of the brave. Pinstriped and handcrafted by three generations of artisans, the Bullet has retained its regal appeal without surrendering to fads and whims. The uncluttered simplicity of its form is a sharp contrast to its sturdy dependability, its mettle and character. We have purposefully endeavoured to retain the essence of the legacy of the Royal Enfield Bullet as it readies to transition to a new form and avatar and steadfastly rides on to a century and beyond”

The 2023 Bullet 350 is powered by the modern, globally acclaimed 349cc air-oil cooled single cylinder engine that also powers the Meteor, Classic and Hunter. Fuel-injected, it produces 20.2 bhp at 6100 rpm and 27 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm resulting in strong, low-end grunt, super smooth linear power delivery and a ride that’s both refined and invigorating. With a primary balancer shaft to cut down vibrations, it feels responsive and refined while its gear shifting is crisp and smooth thanks to an optimised 5-speed gearbox, ensuring a superlative ride experience. At the front are 41mm forks, a 100/90 -19 tyre and a 300mm disc brake. The rear sports a wider 120/80 -18 tyre and 270mm disc brake. Comfort is ensured by a new take on the single bench seat with careful attention paid to both ergonomics and quality materials.

The chassis is designed for improved handling and manoeuvrability. Firmer than on previous Bullets, it encourages confidence at higher cornering speeds and feels planted and stable on straight roads. This is enhanced by large diameter 41mm front forks and wider section tyres, a 100/90 -19 at the front and 120/80 -18 at the rear as compared to past Bullet versions. A 300mm disc brake is fitted at the front and 270mm disc at the rear. Comfort is ensured by a new take on the single bench seat which, along with redesigned mudguards, contributes to the subtly evolved styling, a marked improvement in the proportion, stance and aesthetic balance of the motorcycle.

The 2023 Bullet 350 for Europe is released in two distinct editions, all handcrafted with a premium finish that will delight. The Bullet Standard available in Black or Maroon colourways at £4629, is fitted with dual channel ABS and rear disc, finished with elegant hand-pinstriped body-coloured tanks and components as well as chrome and gold badges. The Bullet Black Gold is a premium variant finished with a striking combination of matt and gloss black tank, copper and gold 3D badge, copper pinstriping and on-trend, blacked-out engine and components, and comes with dual channel ABS and rear disc brakes, available at £4,709

Both European editions are built with a distinctive 13-litre, teardrop tank and the traditional Royal Enfield casquette that houses a new headlamp along with the signature ‘tiger eyes’ – pilot lights – an enduring feature on Royal Enfield motorcycles since 1954. More contemporary touches include the new digi-analog instrument cluster that houses an LCD information panel and a USB charging point mounted below the handlebar. The rider’s controls have received special focus to ensure that the design, fit and finish are top class with beautifully styled rotary switch cubes that combine ease of use with eye-catching retro appeal.

The 2023 Bullet 350 will be supported by an ecosystem of 28 Genuine Motorcycle Accessories, including nine designed and developed specifically for the Bullet. These include comfortable touring and low-rise seats and touring handlebars. There is also a selection of quality riding gear, including helmets and apparel with detailing that echo the Bullet’s legendary pinstriping.

There is no other motorcycle like the Bullet. True to its heritage yet updated and made relevant for each new generation of rider, the Bullet is the custodian of Royal Enfield’s ‘pure motorcycling’ DNA. Royal Enfield believes that now is the time for the world to see the Bullet with new eyes; to once more fall in love with this authentic, gleaming symbol of understated style and timeless resilience.

The wait is over. The new 2023 Bullet 350 is here to own its rightful place as the Jewel in Royal Enfield’s magnificent crown

Exact copy of Evel Knievel’s jump bike – a nine year old boy’s dream made reality

A nine year old boy’s dream motorbike becomes reality in this exacting copy of stunt man legend Evel Knievel’s Harley-Davidson jump bike – now for sale with iconic auctioneers on November 12th at the NEC, Birmingham.

Lifelong Evel Knievel fan, John Timoney, spared no expense in creating his utterly exact copy of Evel’s bike that he describes as: “a lovingly-created, way-too-much-spent Knievel Jump bike….”
It comes to sale with Iconic Auctioneers for an estimate of £15,000 to £20,000 at the NEC on November 12th.

John says: “I’m a lifelong Knievel fan and am old enough to have actually been at Wembley on 26th May 1975 to see Evel jump. Evel and the bike made a huge impression on me, and I vowed that one day I would own a bike just like his. Many years ago, I did actually buy a genuine ex-Scott Pearson XR750, but didn’t have the heart to chop up a genuine race bike, so ended up selling it on after a decade of it sitting in my office as an expensive ornament.”

He says that it took a decade to create this masterpiece, the planning, collecting the parts and the building itself took many years of his life. “To put it mildly, it was a labour of love.”

All his life, from his earliest memories, John was a passionate petrolhead, and when he found Evel Knievel this interest in cars and bikes was turbo charged. He speaks about Evel with great knowledge and compassion, and a fascination with the complexity of the man – huckster, swindler, safe cracker, and ultimately, a tortured soul who created a larger-than-life character, who repeatedly put his life on the line for the entertainment of an audience. He delivered even when he knew his jumps could easily cost him his life (like the famous Snake River Grand Canyon jump). Evel never went back on his word, and went ahead with increasingly risky stunts, despite the crippling pain of his broken and abused body.

It is this respect for the legend of Evel Knievel that has driven John Timoney to recreate in every detail this wonderful motorbike. One day there may well be a book on the man from this source as well, something that Hollywood may well take to in a big way.

“Many, many years of collecting parts and information went into this bike, as well as an insane amount of money to get it hand-built and worked on by the right people – Andy and Sav at Pacoima Motorcycles in Norfolk, and Baz Church, who did the engine. Help was also sought from Lathan Mackay at the Topeka Museum in Kansas, along with other noted experts, including John Steele in the USA, who met Knievel and did a deal to sell licensed replica Knievel XRs”.

John continues “the bike is road registered and road legal, although during daylight hours only, as it has no lights or electrics. As a historic vehicle, it’s also free from road tax, so you can legally avoid paying tax, unlike Knievel, who got caught for doing exactly that. It’s registered correctly as a 1966 XLCH, and the original frame is included in the sale. The original XLCH donor bike was a basket case and has been rescued. It was a perfect base, as it already had numerous parts that weren’t original, so I had no qualms about chopping up an original bike. The reason the frame wasn’t used, and is supplied as a spare, is because I sourced a 1979 Sportster frame, because the rear geometry and castings on the rear of the frame for that year, are very close to the dimensions and look of an XR750 flat-tracker. The front end was then cut out and new parts fabricated, to the exact dimensions of an XR750 (using factory blueprints). Many people make XR-replicas and street trackers, but nobody goes to the trouble of copying the headstock and rake of the bikes… and I’m not surprised; it’s a lot of work. But to me, that’s one of the magical ingredients that gives the bike it’s aggressive stance. Many original 1970’s XR race parts were sourced and imported, including waffle grips, fork-stops, kill switch, and an ex-race XR750 oil tank”.

Millimetre-perfect replicas of Knievel’s self-designed double-brace handlebars were purchased from the Evel Knievel museum in Kansas. These were impossible to source for years, because they were originally made by House of Handlebars to Knievel’s specifications, and that company ceased operating years ago. They’re correctly finished in nickel, not chrome, and Evel wanted these extra-wide bars, as he believed they gave him better stability in mid-air.

“The petrol tank and tail were completed by two artists that I persuaded to collaborate” continues John, “and believe me, it’s a stunt in itself to get artists to collaborate without their egos clashing!” The base colours are airbrushed, and the graphics, lettering and gold leaf was all hand-painted by a guy known as Nefarious; an unbelievable talent who has now sadly passed away. There’s no vinyl or stickers, and this has been done as faithfully as possible to George Sedlak’s original design (Evel’s painter throughout the 1970’s, who was responsible for customising his bikes and helmets). There’s a correct vinyl pinstripe seat which replicates the jump bike; Evel had is driver and mechanic, John Hood, brink three XR’s to Wembley: A jump bike, a wheelie bike, and a spare. The wheelie bike had seat pinstripes which ran 90 degrees the other way, to give Evel better ’shoe-grip’ for standing wheelies).

The bike also has correctly ‘mis-matched’ front and rear wheels and tyres. The front tyre was a 19” flat track racing tyre and the rear was a Pirelli DT knobbly, because that would give the rear tyre more grip in stadiums, and a little more cushion on landing. The front wheel is also an XR alloy (19” XR high wall/flanged rim), but the rear was always a standard Sportster rim, because it had a better chance of not buckling on landing. Correct and very hard to acquire 35mm Ceriani GP forks are used, as they were retained on Knievel’s XR from the factory race bikes. John also tells us that “the open shotgun exhaust pipes now have baffles in… but are still loud! The baffles are easy to take out if you really want to hear the bike roar, but just know that you’ll lose the friendship of your neighbours, and you’ll kill any wildlife within a 500m range”.

John Timoney says: “The tank artwork was taken from what I believe was the originally-intended jump bike; which Knievel switched before the jump, because he didn’t like the gearing (Knievel was to blame for the gearing which came up short on the eventual jump). So I believe this tank design was supposed to be the jump bike, and for me, it was the ‘luckier’ paint scheme. In addition, the actual jump bike featured a coiled ’Snake River’ Cobra which I didn’t think as nice a design.”

John Timoney has something of his hero’s passion. His own background is in art and graphic design, having built up a number of marketing consultancies in this field.  He described Evel as “a sort of surrogate dad” and hopes that his passion project would meet with the great man’s approval.

In some ways the two echo each other. When Evel said he would do something, however crazy, he would deliver, follow through, and be good to his word. In creating this bike, John Timoney has delivered on the vow he made as a nine-year old, and during that pilgrimage, has made a personal tribute to his hero, creating and delivering a remarkable project that deserves the best of homes (preferably with someone who has access to 13 London buses, and a hefty supply of Wild Turkey Kentucky Bourbon).

As Evel would sign his autographs: “Happy Landings” (and happy bidding).

The 2024 KTM 450 Rally Replica

The 2024 KTM 450 Rally Replica: factory-derived equipment for the toughest terrain.

With so many unknowns over 1,000s of miles of racing, the Dakar Rally is the pinnacle of rally-raid and notoriously one of the most difficult events in the world; that’s why using the best equipment developed by the most successful team in rally history makes the KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA an outstanding choice for competitors to rely on.

The Dakar Rally is one of the few events where amateur riders can compete alongside professionals and while this gives the opportunity for emerging rally racing talent to showcase their ability, the factory-developed KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA provides racers with similar equipment to their factory counterparts. From its KTM 450cc SOHC engine, to its purpose-built rider triangle for aiding long days in the saddle, and Pankl six-speed transmission, the KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA is developed with experience, exquisite engineering and intense durability testing – all approved and tested by factory riders such as this year’s Dakar Rally winner, Kevin Benavides.

Built on success, there are few differences between the replica machine and its sister model, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s KTM 450 RALLY bike. The KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA, a serious machine for those racing in national and international rally competitions or adventure events, such as the KTM ADVENTURE RALLY, has also been the springboard of many rally careers. Mason Klein, who began competing at rally events in 2020, won the Rally2 class in the World Rally-Raid Championship (2022), before taking a stage win at this year’s Dakar Rally aboard his KTM machine, with a number of top 10 stage results.

The KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA has been the motorcycle of choice for many successful competitors such as Paolo Lucci and Brad Cox, both of whom are battling for the Dakar Rally2 category victory in 2023, and like their racing peers, compete at several international rallies throughout the season. In a notorious race where just reaching the finish line is a huge achievement, it’s also important not to forget the brave warriors of Dakar; those riders who compete in the Original By Motul class (Malle Moto). In this category, racers compete without any mechanical assistance and on average 70% of entrants annually choose KTM machinery, which is testament to the solid reliability and incredible pedigree of the KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA.

The KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA boasts state-of-the-art components that have been developed in the extremes of the desert and the gnarliest of stony terrain. With minimal weight, comfortable ergonomics and rideability at the heart of the design, the WP XACT PRO COMPONENTS suspension offers a precise feel, consistent performance, all-important traction, and is built to absorb high speed hits and whatever the unpredictable terrain throws at it. The 450 cc powerplant is light yet durable, with an optimised power delivery thanks to its cutting-edge Keihin Management system and ECU maps, refined for the conditions of rally racing. The Pankl transmission is the same as used by the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, as is the exceptional chrome-moly steel frame.

“The KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA is an extension of our factory development programme and has been the choice of countless riders on their quest to either just complete rally races such as the Dakar, or reach results close to the professionals. The bike is READY TO RACE out of the crate, and has all of the required capabilities for high-level success. Many riders have relied on this motorcycle to help them achieve their rally goals, and it is developed in-line with our Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Dakar Rally winning machine. This model usually sells-out fast, and it’s great to see so many of them battling at the rallies around the world.” – KTM Rally Technical Manager, Stefan Huber.

Wheel Your Way To Stafford And See The Best Of The Best

WHETHER you’re interested in Hondas or Yamahas, or if Suzuki’s and BMWs are more to your taste, you’ll find plenty of breath-taking motorcycles to gaze over throughout the weekend of October 14-15 at the Staffordshire county showground for the UKs biggest and best classic bike show.

Here’s a selection of just 4 bikes out of the many that have come out of the garage that we know you’ll want to check out.

After being sold over 30 years ago, Ray Robinson was determined to restore his Honda CB7500 K1 to full working order. Whilst it took him 7 years to persuade the owner to sell it back to him, it took him just 1 year and hundreds of hours to restore his beautiful motorcycle from a bunch of parts to a fully working motorcycle.

David Smiths Yamaha RD350 LC is a prime example of a sublime motor. He put in 8 long years of blood, sweat and tears to restore this timeless RD that he could enjoy riding as well as bringing it back up to factory standard (which he succeeded in doing so) with the original paint, original decals and many of the parts having the original manufacturers’ finishes to them, he has managed to bring it back up to near enough its original spec!

Recreating a Suzuki XR 69 is never an easy job, but Nigel Griffiths successfully managed to build one from scratch from just photos and his own intimate knowledge of the Suzuki GS1000 that he raced back in the day! Not only did he make a lot of the parts himself, but he also had to make most of the tools and jigs to be able to build it in the first place!

Richard Gibbons took on the task of restoring a BMW R100 Café racer including features such as the later BMW K100 forks, Tarozzi rear sets and clip-ons along with many one-off parts as well as the engine being sorted by renowned BMW engineer Steve Scriminger. From the original sales receipt to the finished bike, it has almost a complete history!

Along with our show stopping display of bikes, there will be the final of the Back Street Heroes Custom Championships and the renowned, Henry Cole as this year’s special guest – who will also be joined by Guy (Skid) Willison and Allen Millyard to tell you all about their trials and tribulations in the biking world along with their recent world record; the fastest tandem motorcycle, reaching a top speed of 183.5mph.

1938 Brough Superior SS100 £260,000 at Iconic Auctioneers

As iconic as it gets… the Rolls Royce of motorcycles. 1938 Brough Superior SS100 990cc – Guided at £240,000 – £260,000.

This is as much a legend as it is a superb motorbike, it comes trailing romance and provenance and rightfully the respect of the whole motorcycle world. It is a bike that bikers dream of and now it comes to sale with Iconic Auctioneers at a guide price of £240,000 to £260,000.

The “Rolls Royce of Motorcycles” was the way the press, in period, described George Brough’s bespoke machines. Favoured by the rich and famous and built using the best components and most powerful engines available at the time, it was the bike chosen by TE Lawrence AKA ‘Lawrence of Arabia’.

The Brough name is better known for motorcycles than cars, as the company produced over 3,000 two-wheelers between 1919 and 1940. Dubbed the `Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles’, they were prestige machines that attracted a discerning clientele, and among the many famous Brough owners were George Bernard Shaw and T E Lawrence who had no less than eight and, of course, famously lost his life on one.

In fact, the only bike more special than the one being sold by Iconic Auctioneers would be the TE Lawrence bike if ever that turned up for sale – the true Holy Grail of motorcycles, an icon of its kind – the whispers speak of a £1m price tag.

The SS80 used side-valve engines and were road tested to 80mph before being released from the factory, the SS100 used an overhead-valve engine and were road tested to 100mph. This, very well known, Matchless 990cc OHV SS100 (GUM 239) is presented in excellent overall condition and in good running order. It is one of only 102 Matchless bikes produced in total with 34 built with sprung frames and circa only 25 surviving today.

Fitted from new with a Norton 4-speed gearbox, Castle forks and twin float carburettor. Correct numbers and restored by specialist Brough restorer, Tony Cripps, in 2010 to its current condition. Registered new on New Years Eve 1938 and shipped to dealers Watson Cairns Ltd. of Leeds. It has a known history since 1954 and with current owner since 2018.

Extensive history file included, containing photos of the bike on a test run with Ron Storey and Barry Robinson in 1954 at the Brough Superior Works in Nottingham and at a Brough Rally in 1962 fitted with a sidecar, copies of old RF60 log books, photos and details of its restoration in 2010, original continuation RF60 dated 1954, a letter from Barry Robinson and copies of the article he wrote, restoration documents and photos, two old MOTs, old tax discs and other associated paperwork. The original fuel tank is included but not fitted.

The machine is a winner of numerous awards including ‘Best MX SS100’ at the Brough Rally (twice), ‘Best ridden to show’ once and best bike at VMCC Rally twice. This lot offers a fabulous opportunity to own a well-known and correct Brough Superior MX SS100. UK-registered on a current V5C.
