Akrapovič Introduces New Exhaust for Yamaha R7

Akrapovič has launched an all-new exhaust for the 2021 Yamaha R7 with the introduction of the Racing Line (Titanium) into the Slovenian company’s product range.

Constructed with a high-grade, lightweight titanium outer sleeve and end-cap for the muffler, allied to a stainless-steel link pipe and headers, this latest product from Akrapovič weighs in at 0.7 kg lighter than the standard stock exhaust. The innovative design is an EC/ECE type-approved complete exhaust system, with a catalytic converter included in the package, allowing the system to comply with the current Euro 5 approvals. This type-approved version adds an increase in performance of 1.5 kW (2.0 hp) at 9,200 rpm, and there is an added +1.1 Nm at 5,000 rpm when tested on the Akrapovič dyno against a standard stock exhaust. A distinctive deep and vivid Akrapovič sound rounds out the package, perfectly tuned to match the bike’s sporting credentials.

Shadowing the look of the Yamaha R6 and R1 Akrapovič exhaust systems, with the same muffler shape but a smaller volume, the Racing Line (Titanium) has been designed to perfectly harmonize with the bike’s lines. The pre-muffler is located under the main body of the bike and is hidden by the fairing, leaving the muffler to exit on the right side of the machine, where an exquisite hand-crafted carbon-fibre heatshield adds to the aesthetic value of the exhaust.

The launch of the Racing Line (Titanium) comes hot on the heels of Toprak Razgatlioğlu of the Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK team winning the 2021 WorldSBK championship on an Akrapovič-equipped Yamaha R1. This new system for the R7 shares a similar design to the version on the WorldSBK–winning machine, and there is also an option to give the bike even more of a racing look with the addition of a muffler bracket in black-coated aluminium for the version of the R7 without the passenger foot-pegs.

The wildest travel dreams come true with the Ducati DesertX

The wildest travel dreams come true with the Ducati DesertX: a motorcycle born to enhance the adventure thrill without setting any limits.

In the sixth episode of the Ducati World Première 2022, the new DesertX was unveiled to all motorcycle enthusiasts .

The new DesertX is a bike with an intense off-road attitude, that effectively enlarges the boundaries of what can be done with a Ducati. Desert dunes, narrow off-road paths, gravel roads and mountainous twisties: with DesertX travellers dreams know no more limits.

Fitted with 21” front wheel and 18” rear, the new DesertX has been designed to tackle even the most demanding off-road. The specifically off-road-focused development matched with Ducati valuable road expertise give life to a responsive, easy-to-approach bike, at ease on any route and asphalt.

The DesertX project was born in 2019 when Ducati presented the eponymous concept to the public, generating a strong and positive reaction from motorcyclists around the world. This important feedback gave the Bologna-based manufacturer the decisive push to transform that concept into this functional, competent and effective motorcycle.

The design of the DesertX represents a contemporary interpretation of the lines of the Enduro motorcycles of the ‘80s, created by the Ducati Centro Stile in keeping with essentiality and robustness criteria.

The bike is visually composed of 3 macro elements: a unique volume that includes the tank and the side shields, the saddle and the windshield that embodies the distinctive double headlight and further reinforces the uniqueness of this bike. Additionally, stylistic emphasis is given by the use of black and white areas. The surfaces in contact with the rider are properly large and harmoniously connected to better support every off-road riding phase.

The chassis layout of the new Ducati DesertX includes a new steel trellis frame, which works in combination with long travel suspension with dedicated settings , to ensure effective operation even in the most demanding off-road conditions. The optimisation of all components led to an efficient bike, all packed in 202 kg (dry weight). The choices in terms of chassis make DesertX an easy bike to ride and able to give the right dose of feeling and safety on any surface. Furthermore, the new DesertX offers a great capacity to absorb road imperfections.

On suspension front, the DesertX stands out for its premium fitting. It is offered with 46 mm diameter upside-down Kayaba fork with 230 mm travel and Kayaba monoshock. Both elements are adjustable in compression, rebound and preload. The Kayaba monoshock is perfectly married to the aluminium swingarm and allows a rear wheel travel of 220 mm. In addition, the new DesertX has a generous 250 mm ground clearance, which results particularly suitable for more extreme off-road adventures.

It is noteworthy that the new DesertX features  unprecedented tyres size for a Ducati: 21” at the front and 18” at the rear. The original equipment tyres are the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR, 90/90-21 and 150/70 R18: the perfect choice for a brilliant all-round use of the bike. DesertX will also be homologated to fit both off and on-road-oriented tyres.

Like all Ducati motorcycles the braking system of this new bike benefits from ABS Cornering function. The front features Brembo M50 monobloc radial calipers with four 30 mm diameter pistons, axial pump with adjustable levers and double 320 mm discs with aluminium flanges. At the rear there is a single 265 mm diameter disc on which works a twin-piston floating caliper, always by Brembo. The braking power setting has been conceived to offer great modulability in off-road driving as well as on slippery surfaces, not to mention the fact that it grants the right dose of power in road use.

The ergonomics of the new DesertX have been developed over long and demanding off-road and on-asphalt test sessions. The saddle-footrest-handlebar triangulation gives its best in stand-up riding and offers a good level of comfort even on on-road riding. The result is a bike with an extremely slim fitting area and perfectly linked surfaces that guarantee the rider maximum control and handling. Saddle is 875 mm high. The combination of a particularly narrow inner leg curve and initial suspension compliance ensures good contact with the ground. The saddle height can still be reduced by means of a lowered saddle (available as an accessory) and can be further lowered thanks to an ad hoc kit.

Ducati technicians have also worked hard on a full suite of contents, that make DesertX a true enjoyable tool  on every road. The riding position, for example, results even more comfortable for rider and passenger alike, thanks to the definition of shape and padding targeted for each of the two seats. Heat management is studied in detail with openings and flows of fresh air whilst aerodynamic protection is ensured by the great care taken in defining the shape and size of the original windshield and the even more protective accessory one.

Proper range to face longer journeys is guaranteed by the fuel tank with over 21 l of capacity and thus offering the opportunity of mounting a second tank (available as accessory) in the rear area, adding further 8 l of fuel. Fuel transfer from the rear to the front tank is enabled when the fuel level in the main tank falls below a certain level and can be activated from the dashboard.
DesertX also has an excellent load capacity, almost 120 l of volume available including bags and aluminium top case. The specific choice of tubeless tyres is functional to the journey and to safety. It allows a combination of greater reliability, greater safety in the event of a puncture and easier repair.

The admired 937 cc liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° Desmodromic valvetrain engine is the heart of the new DesertX. Characterized by an excellent reliability, this engine delivers 110 hp at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm* in Euro5 configuration.

Solid Ducati performance is combined with regular and always manageable delivery, providing the rider with a bike capable of tackling any route with great confidence. The engine can count on all the improvements already seen on the Monster and Multistrada V2, including the extremely light and compact 8-disc clutch and the gearbox equipped with a geardrum mounted on bearings to reduce friction and improve precision and smoothness while shifting. This contributes also to a reduction of the total weight of the engine of 1.7 kg compared to the previous version.

To offer the best performance in off-road riding and in various uses, the Testastretta 11° has been specifically optimised. In fact, the gearbox has different dedicated ratios  with respect to those of the Multistrada V2. As a matter of fact the ratios have been shortened overall on all gears up to fifth, to ensure the best off-road behaviour. First and second gears, in particular, are much shorter, in order to facilitate the low-speed driving phases of certain difficult passages typical of off-road use. Sixth gear is properly long to facilitate highway handling while maintaining low engine speeds; this means a contained fuel consumption and an increased level of comfort.

A special mention is deserved by state-of-the-art electronic systems, which offer first-rate performance and safety also in terms of rider aids. New DesertX in fact comes with 6 Riding Modes working in combination with 4 Power Modes – Full, High, Medium, Low – that modify the power and responsiveness of the Testastretta engine. The main new features are specific settings for the Enduro Riding Mode and the introduction of the  new Rally Riding Mode, in addition to Sport, Touring, Urban and Wet.

To be precise, the Enduro Riding Mode, thanks to the reduced power and the specially designed control settings, allows the rider to tackle the most demanding dirt roads with greater safety and makes it easier for less experienced users to ride off-road. The Rally Riding Mode, on the other hand, with full engine power and reduced electronic controls, is designed for more experienced riders who want to make the most of DesertX’s off-road performance.

Each Riding Mode, also thanks to the presence of the Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), can change the character of the bike according to the rider’s input, by acting on the intervention levels of the various electronic controls: Engine Brake Control (EBC), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up & Down and ABS Cornering.

ABS Cornering, in particular, can be set on 3 levels to be able to adapt to whatever situation and rider skill. In the Riding Modes dedicated to off-road (Enduro and Rally), ABS Cornering can also be completely deactivated via the switch cube with a specific button.

The dashboard of the DesertX, vertically oriented and positioned to offer clear information also in stand-up riding, features a high resolution 5” full-TFT colour display. The instrumentation is predispose to integrate the Ducati Multimedia System which allows the rider to connect the phone, thus activating new functions such as music and incoming/outgoing calls or Turn-by-Turn navigation** (optional), which displays directions directly on the dashboard.

The rider is offered the opportunity to choose between two as-standard Info Modes: Standard and Rally. The Standard option provides for all the road information: tachometer and speedometer are clearly visible, as well as the engaged gear, fuel level and other useful journey information. The trip master function is part of the Rally Info Mode. This simulates the operation of the trip master used in rally motorcycles and allows to manually adjust the odometer indication, using the buttons on the left switch cube.

Premium technological features are also represented by the lighting system, which is full LED . The double front headlight has two twin-function poly-ellipsoidal modules with Daytime Running Light (DRL) and has been designed to ensure excellent visibility, particularly important for a motorcycle capable of travelling in all conditions. The rear light is equipped with the Ducati Brake Light, a particular system that, in the event of sudden braking, automatically activates the flashing of the rear light to alert the following vehicles, a solution that further improves rider’s safety.

Such multi-faceted motorcycle can be further customised by the riders according to their own spirit and mood by drawing on the broad range of Ducati Performance accessories . Among the most appealing items: the rally saddle, which marries the rider and passenger seats for greater effectiveness in off-road activities, and the additional 8-l tank. Touring experience can be further improved with the aluminum side panniers which, combined with the top case, give the bike a total load capacity amount of 117 l, additional LED spotlights, central stand and heated grips. Termignoni exhausts are also available, both homologated and racing. The latter increases the values of power and torque of +7% thanks to the dedicated mapping.

Ducati DesertX intense character deserved a special homage. That’s why the Ducati Centro Stile designed, for the first time, a dedicated capsule collection  that takes up the livery of the bike. An outstanding line inspired by the iconic “Dakarian style” and named 21/18, a celebrative tribute to this bike’s tyres size. The technical suit includes jacket, trousers and helmet and will be available in a limited edition. Part of this exclusive collection is a range of lifestyle apparel, specifically designed for this model, consisting of a sweatshirt, two T-shirts and a cap.

The DesertX will be available at dealerships in the Ducati network starting from May 2022. The motorcycles will also be available in a depowered version for A2 license holders. The Bologna-based motorcycle company offers the exclusive “4Ever Ducati” warranty, valid for 4 years with unlimited mileage that relies on the service offered by the entire network of dealers***.

The video-presentation of the new DesertX can be viewed on the  Ducati YouTube channel. Star of this exciting video is five-time Enduro world champion Antoine Meo, who had the pleasure of appreciating the excellent potential of this bike at the Fossil Rock in the Sharjah Desert of the United Arab Emirates.

Touratech KTM 890 Adventure engine guard

In the design of the KTM 890 Adventure engine guard, Touratech relies on the synthesis of two different concepts: An ultra-rugged, folded skid plate is complemented by hydroformed aluminium lateral protectors.

The KTM 890 Adventure is currently one of the sportiest adventure bikes on the market. A twin that is even more powerful than its predecessor model with adventure-oriented characteristics, low weight, as well as fully adjustable suspension elements with long working travel, form the basis of this well thought-through concept. Especially the “R” model variant of the 890 Adventure is just begging to be ridden in sporty style through demanding terrain. Touratech has developed a high-quality range of protectors to ensure that off-road use does not result in any injuries.

The heart piece is the Rally Evo engine guard. Touratech has adapted this engine guard, which was completely redesigned for the previous model, to the current KTM 890 Adventure. For the first time, a three-part construction, consisting of a base plate and two lateral tank protectors, has been used for this protector, which is as robust as it is stylish.

Clever synthesis of two concepts
The base plate, also called skid plate in off-road sports, is made of a high-strength aluminium alloy. For its production, Touratech relies on folding technology, proven in tens of thousands of engine guards, which gives the workpiece additional strength due to its bend-resistant edges. All welding is done by robots to ensure the highest precision.

The lateral tank protectors, on the other hand, are manufactured using the hydroforming process. This technology, in which the aluminium sheet is formed in a tool, using extreme water pressure, enables a complex three-dimensional design allowing the aluminium parts to fit closely to the tank and at the same time have an attractive appearance.

All-round protection and maximum compatibility
The “Rally Evo” engine guard for the KTM 890 effectively offers 360-degree protection for this two-cylinder. The extra-long skid plate provides full protection from the manifolds at the front of the engine to the catalytic converter. A stainless steel reinforcement in the rear part provides additional lateral support. Even severe impacts on rock edges and heavy stones are parried by the “Rally Evo” without complaint.

The tank protectors, which are pulled far up at the sides, reliably cover not only the fuel tank itself, but also the fuel pump and fuel taps.

The frontal intake opening has been retained for effective engine cooling, but can be covered with optionally available grilles to protect against stone chips if required.

Neither ground clearance nor operability of the foot levers are restricted, thanks to the “Rally Evo’s” close-to-the-vehicle lines, and combination with Touratech crash bars is also possible.

Brühl turns up the heat on bike drying

An essential addition to any workshop in winter, the Brühl MD1900+ Single Turbine Dryer can dry a bike, scooter and even a helmet, in minutes.

Whether you’re riding through the colder, wetter months or storing your bike until spring returns, it’s crucial to keep it dry, otherwise corrosion will set in and electrics and other components could become temperamental or fail altogether.

With a flick of a switch, the Brühl MD1900+ blows warm air, heated with a 500W element, at up to 80 metres-a-second, drying a washed or rain-soaked machine without the hard work of a chamois or cloth.

The blast of air is much more effective at getting moisture out of unreachable areas, like electrical switches, under bodywork and around the engine, suspension and brakes – particularly important if the bike will be stored in a garage or under a cover.

It also reduces unsightly water-spotting and corrosion on paint and brightwork and, since there’s no need to touch the bike, the risk of scratches and damage is also removed. The Brühl filters the air it takes in, so it’s debris-free when it comes out too.

Also ideal for helmets, the Brühl will blow rain out of vents and visor mechanisms, and can dry out the interior, which is important, because perspiration can degrade the protective EPS liner over time.

Developed with motorcyclists in mind, the MD1900+ has a powerful 1600W turbine for fast, efficient drying, toughened build quality and is fitted with a built-in RCD to prevent electric shocks. The flexible hose can be extended from 1.5 to 3.5 meters and enables the user to aim air in just about any direction, without having to move the unit.

Interchangeable nozzle attachments allow either a fast and concentrated blast to target specific areas, or a more general flow for overall drying, and the heater can be switched off during warmer months, when hot air is not required.

The Brühl MD1900+ retails at £135 (Including VAT), is covered by a two-year warranty, with full customer support.from this UK-based brand

Get the Winning Balance – Save £600 on Suzuki RM-Z range this winter

Suzuki has scrubbed £600 off the RRP of its RM-Z range, with the Arenacross championship-winning RM-Z450 available for £6,399, and the RM-Z250 now costing £6,299. The offer runs from December 2021 until the end of March 2022.

The RM-Z450 boasts five Arenacross titles to its name, including winning the last running of the UK indoor series in 2020 thanks to SR75 World Team Suzuki. The team also took one to the podium at this year’s Skegness Beach Race, with Neville Bradshaw behind the ‘bars.

Bradshaw also contested the famous Weston Beach Race aboard a stock RM-Z250, devoid of modifications such as enlarged fuel tank and against more powerful 450 machines, finishing 24th from 1000 starters.

The RM-Z450 was completely redesigned for 2018 with a whole new chassis and more power from its 450cc motor, with the RM-Z250 benefitting from similar treatment a year later. Both bikes use Suzuki’s holeshot assist control and traction management systems.

Suzuki GB marketing manager, Ian Bland, commented, Both the RM-Z450 and RM-Z250 are competitive in MX1 and MX2 competition, with a plethora of Arenacross titles to back it up and exceptional performances in other events. They are now even more competitively priced ready for the 2022 season, making it a perfect time to make the switch to a new RM-Z this coming season.”

THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS
The result of one of the most ambitious projects in Triumph’s history, the all-new Tiger 1200 line-up represents a transformation in weight, performance and capability, all focused on delivering every advantage a rider is looking for in their adventure motorcycle.

Building on the previous generation’s strengths, including its practical shaft drive set-up and its great long-distance comfort, plus the triple engine platform which suits touring so well, the new Tiger line-up introduces a new generation of T-plane triple engine, lightweight chassis and advanced technology – all focused on delivering the most agile and capable large capacity adventure
motorcycle you can buy.

GT Pro

ALL-NEW TIGER 1200 FAMILY
With all-new names to reflect the new capability, each Tiger 1200 model is now more tailored and focused to suit the adventures that different riders want.

The new road-focused GT and higher spec GT Pro come with cast wheels, 19” on the front and 18” on the rear, plus all-new Showa semi-active suspension, tuned to deliver the ultimate road-focused adventure ride.

With the new Rally Pro, this brings for the first time a dedicated 21” front and 18” rear tubeless wire-spoked wheel set-up, plus the new Showa semi-active suspension with even longer travel, tuned to deliver the ultimate in all-terrain riding, off-road and on.

Completing the new 5 bike line-up, for the first time Triumph introduces two new 30 litre tank Tigers, with the new Rally Explorer and the GT Explorer – the only cast wheel, 30 litre tank, adventure bike in the class. Both featuring the new Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, these bikes are built to travel the world in comfort and style, with the highest level of specification and capability ever.

Rally Explorer

ALL-NEW T-PLANE TRIPLE ENGINE
Designed to deliver all the advantages that have made the Triumph Tiger 900 so successful in the middleweight category, the new the T-plane triple crank brings the best of both worlds, with the low down tractability of a twin at the bottom end, making it great off road, combined with the performance benefits of a triple at the top end, which makes the Tiger even better on the road where riders spend most of their time.  Technically, the T-plane crank gives the new Tiger 1200 engine firing pulses at 180, 270 and 270 degrees, resulting in one short gap and two long gaps between the firing, delivering improved character and tractability at low rpm.

The new 1160cc engine brings a major step up in performance with 150PS peak power at 9,000rpm, 9PS up on the previous generation, making it the most powerful shaft drive motorcycle in the class. The torque is also significantly higher than the previous generation, with 130Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm, 8Nm up on the previous engine.

In addition to the step-up in power and torque, the new engine, tune and T-plane triple crank also bring improved acceleration and a much more responsive and exciting character, where the uneven firing interval gives excellent feel and tractability at the bottom end, combined with the really strong triple power and torque delivery all the way through the rev range. Completing the transformation, every Tiger features the new lightweight low-maintenance shaft drive, a key practical advantage valued by adventure touring riders.

Compared to the previous generation engine, absolutely everything is new, including new bore and stroke, crank, cylinder head, gearbox and clutch, and a completely new shaft drive and bevel box. Overall, every single component has been designed to be significantly lighter and more compact, which has allowed the new engine to have a much tighter overall package, transforming the riding dynamics.

Add to that the new minimal lightweight silencer, and the result is a significantly enhanced soundtrack, with a new distinctive triple tone and bark.

THE NEW BENCHMARK FOR HANDLING
The Tiger 1200 has been designed to set the new benchmark for road and off-road adventure handling, courtesy of a major reduction in weight, an all-new lightweight chassis, a class-leading specification of equipment and all-new rider ergonomics.

Following an extensive mass optimisation programme across the whole bike, encompassing every component, the new generation is now more than 25kg lighter than the previous Tiger, and up to 17kg lighter than the closest shaft drive competition, based on a comparable specification of motorcycle.

Pro Family

For this new generation, each Tiger 1200 family now comes equipped with dedicated wheel dimensions, tailored to suit the adventures that different riders want. On the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer, there is a 21”/18” tubeless spoked set-up for incredible all-road ability, and on the GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer there is 19”/18” cast aluminium arrangement for more dynamic road riding ability. Ensuring outstanding grip and stability, Metzeler Tourance™ tyres are fitted to all of the GT models, while the Rally models feature Metzeler Karoo Street™ tyres for true all-terrain riding. For advanced off-road riding, the Michelin Anakee Wild is the handbook approved option.

Class-leading Brembo Stylema® brakes are fitted to all Tiger 1200 models for powerful and progressive performance. These have been selected to meet the demands of long distance road riding and the advanced off-road adventure capability of the Rally models.

The incredible stopping power provided by the Brembo calipers is managed by the advanced Optimised Cornering ABS system fitted to all of the new models, which is supported by a sophisticated IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), which continuously measures the motorcycle’s movement (pitch rate, yaw rate, roll rate, vertical acceleration, lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration) to calculate the lean angle of the bike and deliver the optimum level of ABS intervention. Magura HC-1 levers, adjustable for reach, deliver a progressive feel and further enhance rider comfort and control.

Making a significant contribution to the transformation in weight and handling capability, the Tiger’s new frame, which is 5.4kg lighter than the previous design, features a bolt-on aluminium rear sub-frame and bolt-on pillion hangers, enhancements developed from customer feedback.

GT Explorer

Additional weight savings comes from the new aluminium fuel tank and all-new tri-link swingarm, which is 1.5kg lighter and stronger than the previous single-sided set-up, and incorporates a smaller and lighter shaft drive and bevel box.

Bringing the rider enhanced confidence at low speeds and during non-riding manoeuvres, as well as enhanced comfort and control, all of the new 1200s come with new seat and tank ergonomics, where the seat has been slimmed down at the front, where it meets the tank. To further enable each rider to find their comfort zone, all models feature a built-in easily adjustable two-position seat mechanism which enables the rider to change the seat height by 20mm to their preferred set-up.

For the GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer there are two seat height settings – 850mm and 870mm, while for the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer these are 875mm and 895mm. Through the accessory-fit low seat option, customers will also be able to lower the seat position by an additional 20mm.

A further enhancement to comfort is provided by the new easily adjustable screen, with a simple one-handed adjustment mechanism, plus new aero screen diffusers that deflect the wind off both the rider and pillion.

The handlebar position has been optimised to suit each model in the Tiger 1200 range, contributing to the bike’s improved agility and ensuring great rider comfort. These are 20mm wider than the previous generation for improved off-road control. On the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer, the handlebars are 16mm higher than the other models in the line-up to deliver an even more commanding position. The foot peg positions have also been refined to deliver the optimum rider comfort and control for each model.

All models within the Tiger 1200 line-up have an extensive level of protection for a more secure and comfortable ride: handguards are standard for all models, aluminium skid-guard is fitted as standard on the GT Pro and GT Explorer, while an aluminium sump guard is a standard fit for the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer. Additional protection is provided on the GT Explorer and both Rally variants by the engine protection bars, while the Rally Explorer also comes with fuel tank protection bars. These items can all be added as accessories to the models where they are not standard fit.

GT Pro

COMPREHENSIVE TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE
The new generation sets a new standard for Tiger technology, with the introduction of a host of advanced features designed to enhance the ride and deliver a step up in safety, comfort and control.

The GT Explorer and Rally Explorer exclusively feature the all-new Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, developed in partnership with Continental, which delivers two key safety features. Blind Spot Assist uses a rear facing radar to let the rider know when another vehicle is in their blind spot, and Lane Change Assist, which gives a more prominent warning if the rider indicates to change lane and there is a vehicle approaching.

Optimised Cornering Traction Control comes as standard on all of the new line-up, which is supported by the bike’s advanced IMU to deliver the optimum traction control response for the riding conditions.

All of the key information the rider needs is presented through the new class-leading 7” TFT instruments with an optically bonded display, which features a new graphics package. The My Triumph Connectivity System is also fitted as standard on all models, enabling phone calls, turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control.

Depending on the model, there are up to 6 riding modes available, which adjust throttle response, ABS, traction control and suspension settings for maximum rider control in all riding conditions. The Off-Road Pro riding mode, exclusive to the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models, is Triumph’s most extreme off-road set-up for advanced off-road adventure, with ABS and traction control turned off, and an off-road throttle map. Rain mode has been tailored to deliver the most intervention and is limited to 100PS for enhanced safety and control when conditions are compromised.

DISTINCTIVE NEW TIGER STYLE
Following a brief for styling that was just as ambitious as the handling and performance updates, the new Tiger 1200 line-up delivers a distinctive new look with a more upright, commanding stance enhanced by the new redesigned minimal bodywork, clean contemporary lines and a visually lighter front end.

Each model family has been designed with a more focused look, with the GT family delivering even more road biased style, whilst the Rally family brings even more off-road attitude and stance, courtesy of the new 21’’ front wheel set-up.

The new generation also features a much slimmer waist and more compact design with narrower stand over, which not only makes it easier to get your feet on the floor, but also makes it easier to move around on while riding.

Indian Motorcycle Brat Style Chief By Go Takamine

Indian Motorcycle, America’s First Motorcycle Company, revealed its second unique customisation project recently, working in collaboration with renowned Japanese builder Go Takamine, to highlight the vast personalisation possibilities of the all-new Indian Chief line-up once more.

Forming his own unique approach to bike building from what was effectively necessity; living in Japan in the late nineties and needing to get through Tokyo’s heavy traffic, Go’s ‘Brat Style’ was, and still is, about being simple and effective.

“For me bike culture started at school. Half of my class were bike crazy and that’s what shaped my life and direction,” commented Go. “I learned a lot in the early days from friends and my local bike shop. Brat Style evolved from this, as did my shop. It’s about things being simple and effective and yet still feeling like a kid”.

Having relocated his life and shop to California eight years ago, Go’s passion for building and racing vintage bikes became more achievable thanks to the scene being more active than in his native homeland. And of course, his exposure to Indian Motorcycle became even greater.

The build of the Brat Style Chief came from conversations with Indian Motorcycle’s Ola Stenegard, a friend of Go’s who had shown him some early sketches of the new Chief.

“The frame design was the first thing that caught my eye,” continued Go. “Straight away I could see the potential, which of course Ola had intended when he and his team designed the new Chief. It fits so well with what I like to create and so the seed was sewn for this project.”

Like in so many of Go’s creations, his vision was to create something ‘simple not flashy’, and work began to bring Brat Style to the Chief. The fuel tank design was a big part of the core aesthetics. Taking the shape that Go loved but condensing the width and reducing the height. Next was the rear fender. Once again taking inspiration from great functional period design, Go went with a rear fender from a 1937 Ford, honing it to work and fit perfectly with the rear wheel and swingarm of the Chief.

As the Brat Style look began to form, Go selected and machined key components, like the fork covers and chain guard, handmade form sheet metal, through to the Brat Style original megaphone exhausts, the handlebars and unique brass risers and foot pegs.

With such unique attention to detail, the final aesthetics needed to be just right, with Go selecting a simple yet classic paint scheme for the Brat Style Chief, featuring a scallop with the old Indian Motorcycle logo.

“It’s my baby, but the customers reaction when I hand over the bike is the most important thing,” said Go.

On this occasion, the customer was none other than renowned actor Nicholas Hoult, famed for his roles in Mad Max and Young Ones where he found his passion for motorcycles.

Hoult was blown away with the finished result of Go’s Brat Style Chief, becoming the custodian of one very special Indian Motorcycle.

To see more detail of the build and Hoult’s reaction, visit the Indian Motorcycle YouTube channel and to read an in-depth interview with Ola Stenegard and Go Takamine, click here.

The Brat Style Chief is the second in the series of three renowned V-twin customisers selected by Indian Motorcycle to produce totally unique builds from the 2022 Indian Chief. The third and final project to be revealed will be from freestyle motocross legend Carey Hart. Stay tuned.

Indian Motorcycle’s head of design, Ola Stenegard caught up with Go Takamine to discuss the inspiration and build process behind the Brat Style Chief.

The inspiration behind the Brat Style Chief

His love of Indian Motorcycle and the scene

Nicholas Hoult’s reaction

Ola: Go, we’ve known each other for many years now and I’ve always deeply admired your bikes, it’s been an honor to collaborate with you again on a great build. Over the years, you’ve got more and more into old Indian Motorcycles, tell me what sparked the interest?

Go: Indian Motorcycle for me, is about high rpm and very interesting V-Twin engines from the 1930s to 40s period. I like the Chiefs and Scouts because they are so fast, even in stock form. Yes, it can be hard to find the parts from this era, but it’s interesting and a challenge because not everyone can do this.

Ola: You’re clearly a big fan, so how many do you own and what are you working on right now?

Go: I have seven of my own currently, ranging from a ‘27 Wall of Death bike, to ‘39 SS Flat Track race bike, and then three Chiefs from ‘46 and ‘47 in stock, bobber and chopper form. I’ve also got two Chout’s from 1927 and 1941. That’s not counting the working projects, where I have around another 10 on the go, with a few 30s Sport Scouts, Chiefs and a 648 Big Base.

Ola: Your Indian customs were a great source of inspiration for the new Chief, which makes it really cool to now come full circle in this collaboration, having you customise a bike you helped inspire. But which Indian Motorcycles or people from history inspired you?

Go: For the bike, I’ve always loved and respected the very original design, but I also love Bobber and Chopper history.

For the people, there are so many custom builders and mechanics who are better than me, and I think they are all wonderful. If I have to highlight some, then, when I was in Japan, Mr. Masaru Yamada of Triumph’s engine tuner in Tokyo and ‘Smokey’ of Indian engine tuner in Long Beach CA.

Unfortunately both of them recently passed away, but I am very grateful and respectful.

Ola: There is so much work that many won‘t notice at first glance, can you tell us some of the most challenging parts, that people might miss?

Go: It looks simple and easy, but I’m actually thinking about many things when I begin a build like this.

Things like the ground clearance, the position of the tank and the rear fender, etc. I try again and again until I am satisfied, and I always decide based on my feelings at that time.

Ola: A lot of work went into the tank, you narrowed, sectioned and lowered it over the frame?

Go: Yes, the tank looks like stock, but it’s not.  I narrowed the width and height of the original tank to the limit where the fuel injection pump can be attached. I also cut the height and adjusted it. And I attached two vintage Indian tank caps. I like the design of the original tank, so I used it as a base.

Ola:  Are those original old Flanders risers?

Go: No, I’m not sure about the brand, but I actually found these at a swap meet.

Ola: What’s your process, do you sketch or do you mock-up your ideas directly on the bike? Do you slowly let it grow during the build or do you always have a clear vision for the bike?

Go:No, I don’t sketch. I want to make it while checking from all angles, 360 degrees, so I can’t think of it only with sketch.

Ola: What was going through your mind when you found out that the bike was for famous actor Nick Hoult?

Go:  I was honoured and happy because I’ve known from the movie, Mad Max.  I was looking forward to seeing him when the bike was completed.

Ola: How did he react when he got it? When he rode it?

Go: He was very happy. I was most interested in his reaction, so I was really happy that he was pleased, and I enjoyed riding together that day.

Ola: You moved from Tokyo to Long Beach. I know you still keep both shops running. Was it a dream come true moving to the USA? Was it challenging?

Go: Sure, it was a challenge. All I wanted to do was race with real riders on vintage bikes. The engine work has been a challenge on the older bikes, but I keep trying and trying.  I think my dreams have come true, but I’ll keep going. I’m still learning every day.

Ola: Do you have plans for your own new Chief?

Go:When it comes, I want to go far without thinking about anything.

I’m not sure what I will customise, yet.

Ola: Last but not least, tell me about the horn cover on the right side, where is that from? Where did you find it? And why did you choose this bike to carry it?

Go: I found it at a vintage motorcycle swap meet in Ohio. I think it’s old aftermarket parts.

When I removed the original cover, I was concerned about the spot there, so I put it on. I like the patina so I’m going to keep it.

Ola: And before we finish, is there anything else you would like to add about this project or the Chief?

Go: This original bike is a great design! The engine power is also the best. It’s easy to customise and it’s a really awesome bike.I very much appreciate the designer that has gone into the new chief from you, Ola and the rest of the Indian Motorcycle team.

Ola: Thanks so much and thank you for building this incredible bike and for your time today. Ride safe.

Akrapovič Exhaust System on New MV Agusta F3 RR

Akrapovič presents a new exhaust system as part of its industrial partnership with MV Agusta with the release of the Slip-On Line (Titanium) for the 2021 MV Agusta F3 RR.

The RR is at the pinnacle of MV Agusta’s F3 range, a motorcycle that offers class-leading performance, state-of-the-art aerodynamics, and a superb chassis, making it a unique exponent of the Supersport segment. It is conceived as a technological evolution, making it an extremely complete and performing bike. However, because even the best can be improved, this is where Akrapovič comes in. Many accessories are being offered for the bike, including the Akrapovič Slip-On Line (Titanium) exhaust, a road-approved system that offers a power and torque increase of 2.5 kW (3.4 hp) at 13,000 rpm and 2.5 Nm at 11,900 rpm, plus weights savings of 49.5% when compared to the standard stock exhaust. The optional available Racing Kit, aimed at riders using the F3 RR only on racetracks, contains a non–EC/ECE type-approved version* of the exhaust and a dedicated MV Agusta Racing electronic control unit, boosting the power to 114 kW (155 hp) and reducing the dry weight from 173 kg to 165 kg.

This exhaust, developed by Akrapovič and MV Agusta engineers, is entirely constructed from high-grade, lightweight titanium and finished with a beautiful hand-crafted carbon-fibre end cap. It also features a hand-crafted carbon-fibre heat shield, available in matte or high gloss, depending on the customer’s wishes, making it an exhaust that breathes quality and matches the machine perfectly. The shape of the muffler has been specially crafted to match seamlessly with the RR, giving an extra racing touch to the final look of the RR, and the underbody pre-muffler follows the futuristic lines of the motorcycle and has been designed to optimize the performance despite the limited space available within the bike’s bodywork. This exhaust is the first product of the industrial partnership between the two, and to symbolise this strong bond the exhaust features co-branding, with both the Akrapovič and MV Agusta logos on the muffler.

The three-cylinder engine used on the RR has undergone constant development activity, which has led to significant improvement. The addition of the Slip-On Line (Titanium) increases both the power and torque even further while still satisfying EC/ECE type approval certification and meeting Euro 5 compliance. The sound of the engine is transformed by the exhaust, giving it a deeper, fuller tone, totally befitting the bike’s sporting legacy.

Akrapovič and MV Agusta have joined together on this project as the first in the industrial partnership that the two companies share. They have created a stunning new exhaust system that fits the innovative lines of the bike, improves performance, enhances the sound, and meets applicable road-going approvals, making the Akrapovič Slip-On Line (Titanium) – which can be purchased from MV Agusta dealers – a must-have for all F3 RR owners.

* THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT MEET EMISSION COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR STREET OR HIGHWAY USE.

IAM RoadSmart Motorcycle Skills Days are £165 each (full day), Car Skills Days £150 each (half day).

Shaun Cronin, Regional Service Delivery Team Manager (Southern) who is a driving force behind the days said: “These are hugely popular events because both riders and drivers really do get the chance to put their skills to the test and learn and improve key techniques.

Everybody gets to learn things. Last year, we had a rider who picked up tips that he claimed saved his life on the way home. For the drivers, we have many non-members signing up post the events as it gives them a taster of skills that will really enhance their enjoyment and performance on a day-to-day basis.

Our Skills Days really do provide drivers and motorcycle riders an opportunity to fully discover what their car or bike is capable of. These events are practical learning experiences, but they go away with everyday tips from experts within a racing circuit environment.

“Our Skills Days sell out fast as they’re the perfect chance to combine the art and fun of driving and riding as well as develop important new safety skills. It’s no surprise they’re so popular with both experienced and highly knowledgeable IAM RoadSmart members, and those have yet to start out on their advanced learning journey.”

Touratech Connect Update

The latest version of the Touratech Connect smartphone app offers a veritable plethora of new functions.

Its use as a real-time display is complemented by extensive analysis, export and sharing features. In addition, the application is now available for numerous other motorbike models.

The smartphone has established itself as an indispensable communication centre in the motorcycle cockpit. Touratech Connect, the new combination of app and hardware component transforms your smartphone into a freely configurable real-time display that provides the rider with a wealth of neatly structured data.

Touratech Connect reads the data from the vehicle’s own sensors directly from the CAN bus and transmits it to the smartphone via an easy-to-pair Bluetooth connection.

Fine tuning and new features
With the latest version of Touratech Connect, on the one hand existing functions have been further improved. It is now possible, for example, to not only display the maximum lean angles comprehensively, but to also differentiate between left-hand and right-hand curves. Certainly a useful feature for fine tuning your own riding technique.

On the other hand, the app has received a lot of additional functions. Particularly interesting is the route tracking, which goes far beyond recording the distance travelled. Tracking starts with every activation of the app. The high-resolution track can be visualised on a map and – here comes the highlight – the recorded parameters can be visualised for each point. By linking vehicle and geodata in this way, the performance of bike and rider can be precisely assigned to specific riding situations on the track.

Points along the route can also be accessed via a slider that corresponds to the timeline of the journey. The GPS module of the smartphone is used for tracking, which also records the altitude. This function can be deactivated at any time.

Sharing with the community
Another new feature is the ability to share data. The user selects a specific data type, for example the switching profile on a track, and can share the corresponding graph along with a map representation of the associated track. This is done via either email, Facebook or Instagram. The format of the screenshot can be adjusted depending on the selected social network.

Even more practical relevance
In response to a frequently expressed request from the beta testers, the Touratech programmers have created the deactivatable “Remember PIN” function so that the user no longer has to re-enter their code after every app start.

Another practical new feature is the ability to export all app data. This means that all determined values are also immediately available on a new smartphone as soon as they have been imported.

Numerous other detailed improvements in data collection and presentation, such as the possibility of labelling data fields, round off this huge range of functions.

Last but not least, Touratech Connect is now available for even more motorbike models. This means that the app now works with all BMW boxer models from model year 2015 onwards. Touratech Connect is available for iOS and Android operating systems. Existing customers will simply receive the new functions free of charge via an update.

New Touratech Connect features
• Route tracking incl. GPX export
• Display of the route on continuously zoomable and rotatable map
• Altitude recording
• Visualisation of data in descriptive graphs
• Sharing of tracks and data via email and social media
• “Remember PIN” function
• Extensive import and export functions
• Switchable labelling of the data fields
• Available for numerous motorbike models

BikeTrac announce all-new Lite product

Leading motorcycle tracking specialists, BikeTrac, have today announced their all-new slimmed down tracking unit, BikeTrac Lite; aimed at cost-conscious riders, looking for a device that simply offers the brand’s renowned security functionality.

The ideal tracking solution for riders of low capacity or older machines, BikeTrac Lite takes all of  the trusted tracking features from the brand’s premium device, such as GPS and Radio Frequency technology, but is instead stripped back to be a simple fit-and-forget, cost effective alternative.

BikeTrac’s Bill Taylor announced the new Lite device, commenting, “We are delighted to be able to bring this new simplified product to market. While our premium device is still very much a market-leader thanks to its feature-rich functionality and impeccable recovery results over the last decade, we’ve been keen to bring a slimmed down version to the market for lower value machines for quite some time. We’ve tried hard to make cost much less of an issue for riders looking for truly effective bike security.

“With BikeTrac Lite, we’ve been able to slim down the additional functionality of the unit without losing the key security features, so our customers will all be protected by the very same technology regardless of what unit they choose. As a result, we can pass this cost saving down to users, which in turn we hope will see more riders adopt tracking as their chosen line of defense.”

While BikeTrac’s premium product still provides customers with one of the most feature-rich devices available, all customisable from their own app and web portal, BikeTrac Lite simply works silently in the background, with movement notifications sent via text, email and Push notification, along with BikeTrac’s Secure Operating Centre available 24/7.

BikeTrac Lite has a recommended unit retail price of £199, with subscription costs at £5.99 per month or annual fee of £60. 0% finance is also available.

Suzuki introduces white Hayabusa for 2022

Suzuki has added a white version of the new Hayabusa to its range for 2022, which joins the existing black and orange and matt silver and red versions launched this year.

With an RRP of £16,499, the third generation of the legendary hyperbike gets Suzuki’s most advanced suite of electronics ever, with 10 lean angle-sensitive traction control modes, lean angle-sensitive ABS, three power modes, a bi-directional quickshifter, cruise control and a speed limiter, and three stages of launch control, all controlled via easy-to-use switchgear and managed through a neat colour TFT display, nestled between two analogue dials reminiscent of the original Hayabusa’s clocks.

A heavily redesigned engine – including new pistons, conrods, crankshaft, and camshaft – specifically aimed at producing enhanced performance in the lower to mid rev ranges making it the fastest-launching Hayabusa yet with more cumulative torque than its predecessor. All this is wrapped in sharper, more angular bodywork that nonetheless is immediately recognisable as Hayabusa, taking heavy design cues from the original.

The new pearl brilliant white Hayabusa, with its chrome trim and subtle metallic matt stellar blue accents, is available in dealerships now.

BSA Motorcycles unveil the new generation model

BSA Motorcycles is delighted to officially reveal their first new model on Saturday 4 December at Motorcycle Live, NEC Birmingham.

The new BSA Gold Star is classified as a modern classic motorcycle, and its form is instantly recognisable as a BSA. A design icon of its era redefined to reclaim its glory in the current times, the new BSA Gold Star’s design is a befitting evolution of the brand’s most successful motorcycle.

Announcing the reveal of the new motorcycle, Mr Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, commented:
“BSA reigned supreme during the golden era of British motorcycles, renowned for their spirit and impeccable workmanship. We’re incredibly honoured to be showcasing a new model that captures the DNA of such a legendary brand, which stamped an undeniable mark on the world of motorcycling. The next chapter in the brand’s history is going to be an exciting ride.”

Set to rekindle memories of the past, the new Gold Star is pure and retains the essence of its predecessor, such as the round headlamp sitting neatly below the signature twin pod instruments – keeping the same proportions intact. Another notable feature is the chromed fuel tank with pinstriping and a dominating BSA Gold Star logo, which was inspired by the coveted ‘Gold Star’ pin won by Wal Handley in 1937, when he lapped the Brooklands circuit at over 100mph on a BSA Empire Star. Add to that the engine cover that harks back to the BSAs of the past, the distinctive kink in the exhaust pipe and silencer design, rear fender with the trademark stays, and it’s clear that everything remains true to the iconic Gold Star design.

Mr Ashish Singh Joshi, Director of BSA Company Ltd., added:
“For us, the new BSA Gold Star is not just a motorcycle but an emotion and we pursued the journey of bringing BSA back with utmost passion. To stay authentic to its roots, the new Gold Star was designed and engineered in the UK. The new motorcycle incorporates BSA’s DNA and stays a Gold Star that is true to its lineage.”

BSA Motorcycles are attending Motorcycle Live, held 4-12 December 2021 at NEC Birmingham. They are exhibiting in Hall 4, Stand 4D10.

Historic Discovery of 1901 Prototype Triumph

Following the recent announcement of their plans to celebrate next year’s 120th anniversary of the most iconic British motorcycle brand and the production of the millionth Hinckley Triumph produced, Triumph announce the landmark discovery of the very first Triumph prototype ever built.

The 1901 Prototype
An amazing historic find, discovered and restored by leading vintage Triumph collector Dick Shepherd, the 1901 Prototype rewrites the history books, adding a whole new chapter prior to Triumph’s official sales starting in 1902. Long rumoured to exist and referenced within advertising and reviews that appeared in 1901, this first Triumph prototype was developed from a standard Triumph bicycle, with an engine provided by Belgian manufacturer Minerva, in order to generate interest and gauge the public’s demand for a Triumph motorcycle.

Dick Shepherd said “Having been approached by a friend of a collector, who had sadly recently passed away, to evaluate an old Triumph I was incredibly excited to discover that the bike they had featured unique details that were not present on the first production Triumphs. Along with the bike, the collector had also received a letter from Triumph, dated in 1937, that outlined the bike’s unique origins and provided key details.”

“With an engine number that is consistent with references in Minerva’s engine records of a 1901 first Triumph engagement the historic significance of this motorcycle became incredibly clear.”

“As a lifelong passionate fan of the history and achievements of this incredible British brand, to have discovered this amazing survivor and restored it to the glorious condition it would have been in when it first went on display in 1901, has given me an immense amount of satisfaction.”

First unveiled at the UK’s Motorcycle Live show the 1901 prototype will feature in dedicated event at Triumph’s Factory Visitor Experience on the 22nd January, where the machine will be ridden in public for the very first time in over 100 years.

This incredible, historic motorcycle will then be on display, alongside the millionth Hinckley Triumph, in a new, specially created 120-year anniversary display, hosted within Triumph’s Factory Visitor Experience.

The Triumph Factory Visitor Experience is free to visit and is located at Triumph’s HQ in Hinckley, England and is open daily Wednesday through Sunday, from 10am – 4.30pm.
