Spring Bank Holiday Bike Show and Jumble at Ashford

Elk Promotions’ ever-popular classic bike show and jumble takes place on Whitsun Bank Holiday Monday, 27th May, moving from Romney Marsh to the more weather-friendly venue of Ashford Livestock Market.

Classic racing fans are in for a treat, as this year’s theme is the famous motorcycle tuning partnership, the Arter brothers.

Tom and Edge Arter’s business supported countless racers throughout the golden era. Tom in particular offered up both the race shop and his engineering skills to develop competitive machines for talented riders, while his wife Gladys opened up their home to the riders’ families.

Visitors can expect a fitting tribute to Tom, Edge and the race-winning machines they helped produce. AMC will be well represented, since the Arter’s were long-time agents for the firm, and remained committed to its machines even after the factory had closed.

Privately-owned classic, vintage and veteran display motorcycles – and club stands – covering many more marques will be in The Amos Hall Foyer, providing plenty of cover from unexpected showers.

Those who are keen can enter their own bike for a chance to scoop a prize – entries are open to all Pre-1990 machines, and must be received two weeks before the show.

As always, the all-motorcycle jumble promises a wide variety of memorabilia, parts, tools, accessories and motorcycles, from basket cases to complete bikes. Plus specialist parts and service providers, eager to share their expertise and knowledge.

Bargain hunters will find most traders and jumble stalls in the Car Auction Hall. Additional jumblers will spread out to the hardstanding outside.

For those with a glut of parts already, Workshop Clear-Out stalls are available at the bargain price of just £15 (this also admits two people).

‘Crowd-powered’ award winners at Motorcycle Live crowned

Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts voted for their favourite stands after they attended Motorcycle Live – the UK’s biggest and most interactive motorcycle and scooter show – and the winners of the annual ‘Best in Show’ awards have been announced.

Completing the hat-trick in the manufacturer category, BMW Motorrad UK scooped both ‘Best Stand’ and ‘Best Customer Experience’ for the third year in a row

Visitors cited reasons including the number of models available to see, friendly staff, stand layout and the live display in the ‘Make Life a Ride Arena’ as to why the brand was most deserving of the two titles once again.

As well as displaying its extensive 2024 line-up, the stand played host to the global unveiling of the brand-new R 12 and R 12 nineT during the show and at the heart of the stand was the Make Life A Ride Arena. Running four times throughout each day, it offered visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the new R 1300 GS, watch live demonstrations by the BMW Off Road Skills instructors and learn new skills in the interactive sessions.

Helmet City also achieved the triple, winning Best Customer Experience’ in the non-manufacturer category for a third successful year. Visitors applauded a busy stand packed with a wide range of motorcycle helmets available for purchase with professional, trained staff on hand to help with choice and fitment.

Scott Grimsdall, Head of Marketing of BMW Motorrad UK, said:“Motorcycle Live provides a great opportunity to showcase our new product, with the 2023 show proving a perfect platform to introduce the new R 1300 GS to both existing and prospective BMW riders in our Make Life a Ride arena. To win both awards again reflects the hard work and dedication of the BMW Motorrad team who help put this event on. I would like to thank those who visited the BMW Motorrad stand at the show and voted for us and look forward to seeing them again in 2024.”

Jennifer Holmes, Director of Helmet City, commented: “It’s such an honour to win this award for the third time running. The whole team works hard every year to maintain and improve our customer service and we’re glad to see the customers coming back to us year after year and, of course, voting for us.”

Motorcycle Live, in association with Bikesure, will open its doors at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), Birmingham from 16th-24th November 2024. ‘Early bird’ tickets are on sale now, visit www.motorcyclelive.co.uk to get yours!

Ashford Jumble on April 1st, no foolin’

Ashford Classic Motorcycle Show and Bike Jumble returns to the Livestock Market on Easter Monday.

Elk Promotions’ ever-popular Ashford Classic Motorcycle Show and Bike Jumble takes place on Easter Monday, which falls on 1st April this year, at the regular Livestock Market venue.

As is customary, the Amos Hall foyer will be home to privately-owned classic, vintage and veteran display machines and club stands. The organisers report a healthy number on the booking forms already, so the show is set to be as interesting and varied as ever.

Ashford always attracts an impressive array of machines from across the decades. Last year was no exception, with ‘Best Heavyweight’ going to Steve Higgins’ 1951 1000cc Vincent Lighting replica and – at the opposite end of the capacity chart – a 49cc Norman Nippy MkII, owned by Kent local Steve Clark, taking ‘Best Lightweight’.

Alongside the British entries, there were also plenty of machines from further afield: in both senses of the word. ‘Best 1980-on’ was scooped by Trevor Ovenden for his original and unrestored 1982 500cc Honda CX500 Turbo, which he rode 237 miles to the show from North Yorkshire!

Visitors wishing to enter their bike into the 2024 show can do so online at www.elkpromotions.co.uk/enter-your-bike

Those on the hunt for that elusive spare part or a handy tool or two, will find traders and jumble stalls in the Car Auction Hall. Additional jumblers will be spreading out their wares on the hardstanding outside.

Workshop Clear-Out stalls are available at the bargain price of just £15 (this also admits two people), for those with a surplus of stock at home.

The Free BikeMart display-to-sell area also returns, for people wishing to buy and sell complete machines. Bikes can be dropped off or ridden into the event at no extra charge; an entry ticket is all that is required.

The Ashford Classic Motorcycle Show and Bike Jumble is held at the Ashford Livestock Market, Orbital Park, Ashford, Kent, TN24 0HB. It is easily accessible from the M20 at junction 10 or 10a.

2024 Dates for Elk Classic Bike Shows and Jumbles

Elk Promotions have announced a packed calendar of shows and bike jumbles for 2024, giving classic motorcycle fans plenty to look forward to in the new year.

A total of seven Elk events are planned, starting with the South of England Classic Show & Bikejumble on Sunday 24th March, running right through to the season closer on Sunday 27th October.

The ever-popular bike-only jumbles and classic motorcycle shows will take place at their regular venues of Ardingly, Ashford and Romney Marsh. The one exception being the Late May Bank Holiday Monday show, traditionally held at Romney Marsh, now moving to Ashford Livestock Market. which is all hard-standing with inside halls.

Show organiser Julie Diplock explains the move: “Our 2023 May event had to be cancelled due to the showground becoming waterlogged. The Ashford venue is more resilient, removing a huge amount of uncertainty for everyone involved.

Looking at the year ahead, she added: “It’s really exciting for us to be once again looking forward to a full calendar of events. The combination of the show element and the bike-only jumble together in one place seems to keep on resonating with our visitors and traders.”

“Adding in extras like live music, themes such as the Vincent one we had at October Ardingly, and the return of the Free BikeMart display-to-sell areas, really put the cherry on top of our 2023 events. Visitors can expect all this and more in 2024.”

Newark Classic Bike Show Returns With Rotary Norton Legends Nation And Crighton

Star guests Trevor Nation and Brian Crighton will be at the Classic Bike Guide Winter Classic show in Newark on January 6-7, 2024, for all things Norton and more.

Nation and Crighton were a crucial part of the Norton resurgence in the late 1980s and early 90s culminating in both the 750cc Supercup Championship and the British F1 title.

Having emerged from the caretaker shed at Norton, Crighton evolved into the rotary genius that was part of the racing phenomenon, to which Nation contributed strongly to with wins in the proddie class on both 750cc and 1000cc machines. In doing so, the duo played a substantial part in the Norton team, which achieved its first win at Cadwell park in 1988 on the development bike, the RC588.

Show-goers will get to see these racing legends in action as they discuss their current projects and reminisce about their past glories together. Joining them will be two of the iconic John Player Special racing bikes that propelled Norton to great success back in the 1980’s and 90’s, with both guests on hand to fire up the bikes Nation once rode in the show’s very own fire up area.

Mortons Media Group’s Exhibitions manager Nick Mowbray said: “The team and I are absolutely delighted to have two of Norton’s former icons and two rotary machines joining them. Newark is always a great way to start the year, but this year we are delighted to be accompanied by two biking favourites and the machines they made famous.”

The Classic Bike Guide Winter Classic Show has become a staple in the motorcycle calendar, attracting people from all over the UK. Held at Newark Showground, over the first weekend in January, it offers a welcome respite from the hectic holiday season with hundreds of stunning classic machines on display.
