Iconic Ferraris Prance Into Performance Car Show

A pair of Ferraris born a generation apart, the LaFerrari hypercar and legendary F40 will be in the spotlight when the Performance Car Show brings the best of the motoring world to Birmingham next month.

On 8-11 January*, supercars, high-performance favourites and classics will come together at the NEC, with the LaFerrari to appear in the Performance Car Show presented by Landsail Tyres in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com. The F40, meanwhile, headlines a display of wild road cars presented by Classic & Sports Car magazine within Europe’s largest motorsport show, Autosport International.

With only 499 to be produced, all priced at over £1 million and packed with F1-derived technology, the hybrid LaFerrari combines a V12 engine with a Kinetic Energy Recovery System to produce 950 bhp.

Accelerating from 0-124mph in less than seven seconds and weighing 1,255kg including a chassis made from four different types of carbon fibre, it’s the fastest road-going Ferrari around the marque’s test track at Fiorano, three seconds faster than the F12berlinetta.

The masterpiece will be parked outside the new Pie and Piston Pub by PistonHeads.com for enthusiasts to admire while catching up with the team behind the popular website.

“Ferrari holds a truly special place within the world of motoring. Its heritage is legendary and passion unrivalled, and continues to create amazing, sector-defining models,” said Ian France, Performance Car Show Director.

“The LaFerrari is the latest in Ferrari’s long line of phenomenal supercars, which of course includes the ground-breaking F40. We’re excited about bringing these two icons of motoring to the NEC for enthusiasts to enjoy.”

The Ferrari F40 will be displayed on a new, 14-car ‘Track Icons and Wild Road Cars’ historics feature presented by Classic & Sports Car and Silverstone Classic, within Autosport International.

Considered one of the greatest supercars ever made, the F40 was developed to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, and the last model personally approved by Enzo Ferrari before the founder’s death in 1988.

Powered by a twin-turbo V8 producing 471hp, the lightweight, mid-engined creation covers 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and became the first production car to break the 200mph barrier.

The F40 will be accompanied by a Jaguar XJR15, launched at the very first Autosport International in 1991, Porsche 959, Audi Sport Quattro SWB and Lancia Stratos Stradale in the unique collection.

Other Performance Car Show features include the Autocar Supercar display, hosting the Ferrari 458 Speciale, Lamborghini Huracán, BMW i8 and Vühl 05 in an 1,800hp showcase.

Finalists from the motoring bible’s Britain’s Best Driver’s Cars 2014 will also be put through their paces in the Live Action Arena, with the winning 458 Speciale accompanied by the McLaren 650S, Porsche 911 GT3 and Jaguar F-Type.

In the Live Action Arena and a special Performance Car Show presentation, attendees will have the first opportunity to see a selection of category winners from the prestigious What Car? Awards 2015, after the accolades are handed out on the eve of the show.

Within Autosport International, stars of motorsport such as David Coulthard, Petter Solberg, Allan McNish, Anthony Davidson, Colin Turkington and Matt Neal will be present, along with displays spanning karting to Formula 1.

Tickets to the Performance Car Show presented by Landsail Tyres in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com are available from £32 for adults, with children’s tickets priced from £21 and children under five years admitted for free. For tickets, visit www.autosportinternational.com.

World Champion Davidson Heading To Autosport International

Britain’s newly-crowned FIA World Endurance Champion Driver, Anthony Davidson has joined the line-up for Autosport International’s 25th anniversary celebrations next month.

Also a Sky Sports F1 expert and Formula 1 development driver for the title-winning MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, Davidson will head to Birmingham’s NEC on Saturday 10 January, during Europe’s biggest motorsport show on 8-11 January*.

Davidson switched to sportscar racing with Aston Martin in 2009 after contesting 24 Formula 1 GPs. Two seasons with Peugeot saw numerous endurance victories, including winning the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring on his debut with the team, before he moved to Toyota in 2012.

Recovering from a horror accident in the French classic a year earlier, Davidson claimed his first 24 Hours of Le Mans podium with second in 2013 alongside Sébastien Buemi and Stéphane Sarrazin, the trio also finishing third in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

In 2014, Davidson and Buemi sealed the Drivers’ World Championship with a round to spare, having taken their Toyota TS040 Hybrid to victory in four of the eight races. The pair also finished third at Le Mans with Nicolas Lapierre.

“It’s been a truly incredible year, winning the FIA World Endurance Championship with Sébastien and Toyota Racing,” Davidson said.

“The title is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people, so it’ll be great to celebrate that at Autosport International in January with the passionate British fans who have supported me throughout my career.”

Davidson joins 2013 FIA World Endurance Champion Driver Allan McNish and 2014 FIA World Rallycross Champion and 2003 FIA World Rally Champion Petter Solberg on the Autosport International guest list. Other stars heading to the NEC include David Coulthard, recent F1 debutant Will Stevens and British Touring Car Champions Colin Turkington, Matt Neal, Andrew Jordan and Gordon Shedden.

“We’re excited about welcoming Anthony Davidson to Autosport International and celebrating his success in the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship,” said Ian France, Autosport International Show Director.

“Anthony has added another chapter to Britain’s fine record in sportscar racing, and it’s fitting that he’ll be joined by outgoing champion Allan McNish to review the season and look ahead to 2015, when Toyota, Audi and Porsche will be joined by Nissan.”

Exclusive collections spanning karting to Formula 1 will be on display, along with the best of the motoring world in the Performance Car Show, presented by Landsail Tyres, in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com.

Tickets to Autosport International are available from £32 for adults, with children’s tickets priced from £21 and children under five years admitted for free. For tickets, visit

Le Mans Legend Heading To Autosport International

Britain’s most-successful sportscar driver of the modern era and host of last weekend’s prestigious FIA Prize-Giving Ceremony, three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Allan McNish has joined the Autosport International 2015 guest list.

Europe’s biggest motorsport show is celebrating its 25th anniversary at Birmingham’s NEC on 8-11 January*, and McNish has featured at motorsport’s highest levels throughout its history.

A winner in junior classes such as Formula 3 and Formula 3000, and a Formula 1 test driver for McLaren at 19 years of age, McNish was recruited by Porsche for its sportscar programme and quickly became one of the world’s best, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998.

Following a season in Formula 1 with Toyota in 2002, McNish returned to endurance racing with Audi. He enjoyed further Le Mans glory in 2008 and 2013, along with the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship to go with four Sebring 12 Hour and Petit Le Mans victories and three American Le Mans Series crowns.

Remaining an Audi ambassador, he stepped out of the cockpit at the end of 2013 and has become a popular part of the BBC’s F1 broadcast team.

He’ll be joined at Autosport International by fellow Scots in BBC colleague and 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard and 2012 British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden. New FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg and BTCC champs Colin Turkington, Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan will also be present, with more stars to be announced.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my visits to Autosport International over the years, it is a great show and I really think it has something for every motorsport fan. I’m excited about attending January’s 25th anniversary celebrations,” McNish said.

McNish will also present the Motorsport Safety Fund’s annual Watkins Lecture on safety issues within the sport. The respected event is named in honour of the late Professor Sid Watkins, who is credited with revolutionising Formula 1 safety.

“Allan is always warmly-welcomed at Autosport International, as a great ambassador of British motorsport and one of its most popular figures,” said Ian France, Autosport International Show Director.

“His racing record speaks for itself, and Allan has taken that experience into the media, providing insightful and entertaining analysis. We’re looking forward to hearing his expert take on the 2014 Formula 1 and FIA World Endurance Championship seasons at the NEC in January.

Motorsport stars such as McNish, Coulthard and Solberg will be accompanied at Autosport International by exclusive displays spanning every aspect of motorsport, exhilarating performances in the Live Action Arena and motoring’s Performance Car Show in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com.

Birmingham’s Huracán Warning!

The menacing Lamborghini Huracán, award-winning Ferrari 458 Speciale and ground-breaking BMW i8 will headline the supercars on display during the Performance Car Show next month, as the best of the motoring world heads to Birmingham.

Held alongside Europe’s biggest motorsport show, Autosport International, the Performance Car Show in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com features sensational collections of the latest high-octane favourites at Birmingham’s NEC on 8-11 January*.

Bringing a combined 1,800hp to the popular Autocar Supercar Display, the Lamborghini, Ferrari and BMW will be accompanied by an emerging force, Mexico’s track-focused Vühl 05.

Other masterpieces will be hosted by What Car? and PistonHeads.com, while Autocar will also demonstrate a collection of its Britain’s Best Handling Cars in the 5,000-seat Live Action Arena. Motoring enthusiasts can also witness launches, meet car clubs and view the latest accessories at the event, which was attended by 82,000 people in 2014.

Unveiled earlier this year and picking up where the Gallardo left off, the stunning Lamborghini Huracán is aptly named with the Spanish word for ‘hurricane’. A 5.2-litre V10 produces 610hp, with the package capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 202mph.

In what the Italian manufacturer describes as the new benchmark in luxury super sports cars, the four-wheel-drive Huracán features a lightweight, hybrid chassis made from carbon fibre and aluminium and ceramic brakes.

The mid-engined Ferrari 458 Speciale was named in October as the winner of Autocar’s prestigious Britain’s Best Driver’s Car for 2014. With 605hp, it’s the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 ever produced by Ferrari, weighs just 1,290kg and is armed with active aerodynamics.

Sitting alongside the V10 and V8 stallions, the BMW i8 represents the future of motoring, as a revolutionary yet accessible hybrid supercar. A three-cylinder turbo engine combines with an electric motor to produce 357bhp and cover 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, and offering economy of up to 134.5mpg.

Mexican manufacturer Vühl has made waves with its very first model, the road-legal and lightweight 05 supercar. Engineered for racetrack performance, the exhilarating Vühl 05 pairs an aluminium monocoque with a 2.0-litre Ford Ecoboost engine capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds.

“It goes without saying that Lamborghini and Ferrari are always two of the first names mentioned in conversations about supercars, so we’re excited to host the Huracán and 458 Speciale in the Autocar Supercar Display, along with the BMW i8 and Vühl 05,” said Ian France, Performance Car Show Director.

“We’re looking forward to displaying these four amazing cars and a diverse group of other supercars and high-performance favourites at the Performance Car Show in January.”

Under the same roof, Autosport International will host motorsport stars such as 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard, rally hero Petter Solberg, Le Mans legend Allan McNish and British Touring Car Champions Colin Turkington, Matt Neal, Andrew Jordan and Gordon Shedden, and displays spanning karting to Formula 1.

Tickets for the Performance Car Show in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com are available from £32 for adults, with children’s tickets priced from £21 and children under five years admitted for free. For tickets, visit www.performancecarshow.com.

One of Britain’s most-successful Formula 1 drivers of the generation, 13-time race winner David Coulthard has joined the guest list for the 25th anniversary edition of Autosport International. Europe’s biggest motorsport show was first held in 1991, the year ‘DC’ won the prestigious Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix on his way to F1.

The Scot has enjoyed a decorated 247-race F1 career, succeeding the late Ayrton Senna at Williams, before driving for McLaren and retiring behind the wheel of the Red Bull RB4 in 2008. He has since competed in Germany’s DTM (Touring Car Championship), and moved seamlessly into the media as part of the BBC’s F1 broadcast team.

Taking place at Birmingham’s NEC, Coulthard will appear during the event’s two public days, 10-11 January, dissecting the mammoth 2014 season and looking ahead to the new year.

“One of the fantastic things about motorsport is the way it brings passionate fans together and Autosport International is a big part of that,” Coulthard said.

“I’ve got very fond memories of 1991, when I moved into Formula 3 and won Macau, and I’ve enjoyed attending the show over the years at different stages of my career. There’ll be lots to talk about from Formula 1, particularly following this incredible title fight between Lewis and Nico, and I’m looking forward to getting back to the NEC in January.”

In Memory Of Indy Champion Dan Wheldon

Motorsport fans can join the action and raise funds for the worthy Alzheimer’s Society by competing in the Dan Wheldon Karting Trophy during January’s Autosport International.

A regular feature at Europe’s biggest motorsport show, the three-hour charity karting race will be held on Saturday 10 January from 6pm at Birmingham’s NEC during the 8-11 January* event.

The annual race celebrates the life and achievements of dual Indy 500 winner and 2005 IndyCar Champion Dan Wheldon, who died in a racing incident in October 2011.

The Dan Wheldon Tribute Fund has raised over £51,000 to date, with the 2014 karting trophy contributing £7,000. Coronation Street actor and Alzheimer’s Society celebrity supporter Tony Hirst was among the field, joined by the likes of former World Superbike Champion Troy Corser, commentator Steve Parish and British Touring Car Championship drivers Adam Morgan and Dan Welch.

Autosport International’s bespoke indoor karting track will host the action, with Teesside Karting providing the 160cc machinery. Teams can enter by emailing admin@teessidekarting.co.uk or calling 01642 231117.

In January, Tony Hirst, known to Corrie fans as fire fighter Paul Kershaw, will be returning to the track.

“It’s a great event and I would encourage anyone who loves their motorsports to sign-up for the race on the Saturday. I can’t wait to be involved again and just hope our team beat both last year’s fundraising efforts and our race time!”

“As a family, it so important we’re able to keep Dan’s memory alive by doing something that he loved and raising money for a charity so close to all of our hearts in the Alzheimer’s Society,” said Jo Wheldon, sister-in-law of Dan.

“The Dan Wheldon Karting Trophy captures so much about Dan, extremely competitive but hugely fun and we’re looking forward to the 2015 race at Autosport International.”

Once again celebrities and motorsport stars will be on-hand to mentor the 25 teams, providing trackside advice. A six-person team can enter for £300 with the opportunity to raise additional funds by securing their own sponsorship.

Show attendees will also be able to make donations to the Alzheimer’s Society through collection buckets located near the entry to Autosport International’s 5,000-seat Live Action Arena as well as through the Just Giving page.

Three-time champion Neal and 2012 titlist Shedden showed off their new Honda Civic Tourer at Autosport International 2014, with the estate attracting plenty of attention from BTCC fans. It has been a race winner in the hands of both drivers, with Shedden currently third in the championship and Neal eighth.

The three BTCC aces will dissect the 2014 season and look ahead to 2015 at Autosport International.

Motorsport World Heading to Birmingham

Leading motorsport and performance engineering companies from over 20 different countries will converge on Birmingham this week, to start the new motorsport season at Autosport International.

Europe’s largest dedicated motorsport trade show will host approximately 600 companies displaying the latest technology at Birmingham’s NEC on 9-12 January, with the opening two days solely for industry attendees.

Led by 21 exhibitors crossing the Atlantic from the USA and groups exceeding a dozen from both Germany and Italy, almost 100 international exhibitors are expected at the show from 22 different nations, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and Taiwan beyond Europe.

The group features industry leaders such as Aurora Bearing Company, AVL Schrick GmbH, Brembo S.p.A., Injen Technology, Koni, M.E.RIN Safety Fuel Tanks, Öhlins Racing AB, Sadev and the Swedish Motorsport Industry.

Continuing the international theme, over 60 nations were represented in the audience of 28,000 motorsport professionals at Autosport International 2013, as a show record £1.07 billion worth of new business was generated within the sector.

The jet-setters will join the revered UK motorsport sector, which creates £6 billion in global sales annually, with Motorsport Valley home to over 3,500 companies and 40,000 jobs, including eight of the 11 teams in Formula One.

Among the new projects on show, local motorsport preparation company JRM will unveil a brand new rally car programme on Thursday 9 January, signalling the start of a manufacturer partnership, with a former World Rally Champion to spearhead the testing and development process.

The Daventry-firm will also take the covers off its 2014 specification Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 racer, the successor to the V6-powered sports car that won the Pro-AM category in the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series.

Another local manufacturer, Trident Sportscars is launching its new Iceni GT3 and GT4 race cars, delivering GT performance and a zero carbon footprint.

The Iceni is powered by a 6.6-litre, turbo diesel V8 engine producing up to 660bhp and 1,050lbs of torque to cover 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, and is set to compete in GT Cup and Britcar events in the UK, and international long-distance races on diesel or biodiesel fuel. Road versions run on 100% biodiesel fuel, achieving 68mpg at 70mph, and a range of 2,000 miles.

The show will also feature the launch of the new lightweight Zenos E10 sports car, the new venture for former Caterham Cars CEO Ansar Ali and COO Mark Edwards, and the road-going Sin R1 supercar.

“It’s always exciting to walk around Autosport International and see so much new technology on display, ranging from individual components to complete race car projects,” said Ian France, Autosport International Show Director.

“A lot of that comes from Motorsport Valley and the buoyant British motorsport industry, but having such a large and diverse range of international exhibitors at the show is fantastic. Not only does it provide a great opportunity for our local sector to expand their networks and view the latest technology from around the world, but also highlights the standing in which the industry is held globally.”

Autosport International forms part of International Motorsport Business Week (IMBW), a unique schedule of conferences, symposiums and networking opportunities for leading engineers and decision makers between 6-12 January.

Speakers for 2014 IMBW events include Ulrich Baretzky (Audi Sport, Head of Engine Technology), John Iley (Caterham F1 Team, Performance Director), Bernard Niclot (FIA Technical Director), Pat Symonds (Williams F1, Chief Technical Officer) and Charlie Whiting (Formula One Race Director).

Title-Winning Ferrari To Headline Surtees Display

An amazing collection of race cars and motorcycles will form a tribute to John Surtees’ life in motorsport at Autosport International next weekend, marking the start of 50th anniversary celebrations of the British legend’s 1964 Formula One World Championship.

After taking seven motorcycle Road Racing World Championships, Surtees became the first man to win world championships on both two and four wheels when he secured the 1964 title with Ferrari. It’s an accolade Surtees still holds today, and he’s also the last Brit to have won an F1 crown with the iconic Italian manufacturer.

With Surtees to headline the list of motorsport stars attending the show, at Birmingham’s NEC on 9-12 January, his title-winning Ferrari 158 leads the special display.

Taken to victory by Surtees in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, the 158 is powered by a lightweight 90-degree, 1.5-litre V8 engine, and is set for a rare appearance outside of the USA where it is part of a dedicated Surtees section in the George Barber Museum at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

“I’ve got very fond memories of the 1964 season with Ferrari, and seeing my 158 from that year is always a special occasion. I’m looking forward to having it alongside many of my other race cars and bikes at Autosport International, and sharing stories about the entire collection with fans of the sport,” said John Surtees.

Accompanying the display, the Henry Surtees Foundation will have a presence at the show. Founded after the tragic death of his son Henry in an accident in 2009, the charity assists those who have sustained injuries in accidents and provides education, training and road safety instruction for two and four wheels.

“With 2014 marking 50 years since John Surtees secured the Formula One World Championship with Ferrari, we’re honoured to be hosting John and a collection of his race cars and bikes at Autosport International,” said Ian France, Autosport International Show Director.

“Spanning motorcycles from his formative racing days as a teenager to his title-winning Ferrari 158 and cars from John’s time as an owner with Team Surtees, it’s a special collection of motorsport history.”

A World Champion on two wheels but with only four car races to his name, Surtees made his Formula One debut at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1960 at the invitation of the legendary Colin Chapman. The Lotus 18 he used that weekend, and to subsequently finish second in his next race, the British Grand Prix, will also appear.

A remarkable career includes Surtees’ position as one of the few drivers to have also formed and raced for their own Formula One team. Surtees Racing Organisation will be represented by the TS7, its first F1 car from 1970, and the Formula 2 TS10 and TS15, along with the Lola T70 sports car he drove to win the inaugural Can-Am Series in North America in 1966.

A similarly diverse line-up documents Surtees’ time on two wheels, during which he claimed seven Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix titles.

His very first motorcycle at 15 years of age, a 1939 250ccTriumph Tiger 70 is joined by the 1949 500cc Vincent Grey Flash on which he won his first race at Aberdare Park in Wales. Works Norton and BMW Rennsport bikes will also be on display, along with the manufacturer Surtees enjoyed incredible success with, MV Agusta.

Surtees claimed six titles with the Italian brand across 350cc and 500cc competition between 1958 and 1960, and the 1960 Type 500cc MV Agusta from his final season of motorcycle racing rounds out the display.

Other Autosport International displays will feature contemporary Formula One machinery on the F1 Racing Grid and showcases of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and Wales Rally GB.

Surtees will be joined at the show by the likes of ex-racer and Sky Sports F1 commentator Martin Brundle, current F1 driver Adrian Sutil, 2013 Le Mans winners and sports car racing legends Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish and BTCC Champions Andrew Jordan, Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden.

Attended by almost 80,000 people in 2013, Autosport International 2014 will host every level of motorsport, while the Performance Car Show in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com will feature supercars and the latest high-performance models under the same roof.

Adult tickets are now available from £31 and children’s tickets from £20. For more information about the show, visit www.autosportinternational.com.

3,000bhp Gathers To Headline The Performance Car Show

The new Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Jaguar XKRS GT, McLaren 12C GT Sprint and Telsa Model S will converge on Birmingham’s NEC to headline the supercar presence at the Performance Car Show on 9-12 January 2014.

Boasting almost 3,000bhp between them, the cars will take the spotlight on the stand of automotive magazine Autocar, which will celebrate and review these top road-going models.

Representing British performance, the new Aston Martin Vanquish will take pride of place on the stand. Costing just short of £200,000, it features a 5.9-litre V12 engine that packs 565bhp under its carbon fibre body. With a top speed of 183mph, it can launch from standing to 62mph in 4.1 seconds.

One of its closest rivals, the 211mph Ferrari F12 Berlinetta will also be on show. Featuring a 6.3-litre V12 engine, this ‘prancing horse’ produces 731bhp at 8,250rpm to charge from 0-60mph in exactly three seconds and will pass 100mph in a rapid 6.5 seconds. With looks that pay homage to the front-engined models of the 1960s, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta will get any car enthusiast’s throttle revving.

The pair will sit alongside the Jaguar XKRS GT, which celebrates 25 years of Jaguar’s R brand. Its limited top speed of 186mph is achieved by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8, which sends the power through a six-speed automatic gearbox. With an output of 542bhp, the exquisite model powers from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds.

The Performance Car Show in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com will also provide a rare opportunity to see the McLaren 12C GT Sprint, limited to just 20 units. Taking inspiration from its successful racing counterpart, the £195,000 model has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine that produces 616bhp. It’s not just performance that McLaren has taken from the race car; the 12C GT Sprint also features an FIA-approved roll cage, carbon ceramic brakes, composite racing seat and six-point harness with HANS device attachment to ensure complete road-going safety.

Alongside the petrol-powered vehicles, the electric Tesla Model S will be showcased. Underneath its conventional yet stylish exterior, the Tesla Model S features an aluminium and steel monocoque and comes with a variety of battery options to deliver varied power. Even the standard 60kWh battery edition provides 0-60mph acceleration of 5.9 seconds and a 208-mile range, while the 85kWh battery reduces the acceleration time to 5.4 seconds. However, the 85kWh Performance Pack features a higher capacity drive inverter, allowing a 4.2 second 0-60mph time and delivers an impressive 416bhp.

“For fans of road-going performance, we’re delighted to provide an opportunity to see a fantastic range of spectacular cars up close,” said Ian France, Performance Car Show Director. “It’s not every day that you can walk amongst prestigious cars limited to a production run of just 20, and Autocar’s supercar display will deliver that experience.”

Alongside the supercars on the Autocar stand, a host of other manufacturers will feature their latest offerings. Both Vauxhall and Abarth will present UK first showings, with the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS and Abarth 595 50th Anniversary Edition unveiled to the public. Caterham will showcase its AeroSeven Concept while Porsche will reveal the all-new Porsche Type 991 911 GT3 Cup as well as the latest road-going version of the 911 GT3.

More top models will be on display in the show’s 5,000-seat Live Action Arena, as Autocar displays its Britain’s Best Driver’s Cars, which include the Porsche 911 GT3, Aston Martin V12 Vantage S and Jaguar F-TYPE V6S. The indoor arena will also showcase a variety of stunts and wheel-to-wheel motor racing action.

Adult tickets are now available from £31 and children’s tickets from £20. Tickets provide access to the Performance Car Show and Europe’s largest motorsport show, Autosport International, which takes place under the same roof. For more information about the show visit www.performancecarshow.com or call 0800 581 1419.

Sinful Supercar To Launch At Autosport International

A sports car project born at Autosport International 2012 and unveiled at January’s 2013 show, the Sin R1 will be in the spotlight again at Autosport International 2014 on 9-12 January, with the launch of the road-going, £60,000 supercar.

A joint venture between British company Pro Formance Metals and Sin Car GmbH in Germany, the Sin R1 race car broke cover at Europe’s largest dedicated motorsport trade show earlier this year, 12 months after the parties met for the first time at Birmingham’s NEC.

Following strong interest in the race car, which made its debut in the UK’s GT Cup in August, a road-going version has been developed. Featuring an FIA-homologated spaceframe chassis, powered by a 500bhp Chevrolet V8 engine and weighing 1,200kg, the value-packed supercar is set to enter a limited production run in 2014.

Developed through the motorsport programme, the Sin R1 road car has a six-speed transmission, 19-inch wheels, and 362mm disc brakes and a Formula One-style fuel tank from fellow Autosport International exhibitors AP Racing and M.E.RIN Safety Fuel respectively.

“A lot’s happened since we started discussing the project at Autosport International 2012, initially as a one-off vehicle. If you told us where we’d be almost two years later, starting from a blank piece of paper, I wouldn’t have believed you,” said Pro Formance Metals Director, Phil Matts.

“We received a great reception when we unveiled the prototype race car in January, which has led to the development of the road-going version. Having both cars side-by-side at the 2014 show, ready for the open market, will be a very proud moment.”

Three weeks out, over 500 companies such as Pro Formance Metals have booked their place as Autosport International 2014 exhibitors.

Over £1 billion worth of new business in the motorsport and high-performance engineering industries was generated at the 2013 show, eclipsing the previous record by £200 million. The trade audience of 28,000 motorsport professionals included 5,000 overseas visitors.

“The Sin R1 project is a fantastic example of the networking power of Autosport International, and the sort of projects the show can facilitate,” said Ian France, Autosport International Show Director.

“Given that the partnership started with a meeting at the 2012 show, having race and road-going versions of the sports car on display at Autosport International 2014 is a great result for everyone involved.”

Including two days dedicated to industry visitors, Autosport Engineering in association with Racecar Engineering on 9-10 January, trade registration for Autosport International 2014 is now open. Tickets are available from £26, with discounts for group bookings. To register call +44 (0)845 218 6012, or visit www.autosportinternational.com.

Lightweight Sports Car To Be Revealed At Autosport International

The world will meet the brand new ultra-light Zenos E10 sports car for the first time next month at Europe’s largest dedicated motorsport trade show, Autosport International.

On 9-12 January at Birmingham’s NEC, the first model from Zenos Cars, a partnership between former Caterham Cars CEO Ansar Ali and COO Mark Edwards, will be unveiled along with pricing and additional technical details. Having also worked together at Lotus, Ali and Edwards have over 30 years of experience in the niche sports car sector.

Track focused yet road legal, the open-top, step-in, two-seater is powered by a mid-mounted 2.0-litre Ford engine producing 200bhp. Weighing only 650kg, it delivers a power-to-weight ratio of 300bhp/tonne and covers 0-60mph in under five seconds.

Beneath a body that’s set to consist of 18 panels, the unique chassis architecture lends itself to the Zenos name: a combination of ‘zen’ to represent purity, and ‘os’, loosely Latin for ‘vertebra’.

A single, aluminium extrusion ‘backbone’ spans the length of the E10, delivering impressive torsional rigidity, accompanied by an aluminium rear sub frame and a safety cell incorporating twin roll hoops and side-impact protection. The flexibility and low investment demand of the Zenos platform architecture has been recognised through a development grant from the Niche Vehicle Network.

The driver and passenger sit either side of the spine in an integrated carbon composite monocoque, constructed from recycled carbon fibre as a skin with a thermoplastic core; a lightweight, strong and cost-effective solution.

Autosport International exhibitors Alcon, Bilstein, Corebeau and Titan are among the partners involved in the project.

The E10 is due to enter production in late 2014, with first customer deliveries expected during the opening quarter of 2015. Based on the same chassis architecture, two further models are in the pipeline for the next five years, a Roadster, Project E11, and a GT Coupé, Project E12.

“The launch of the E10 at Autosport International will mark another major milestone in what’s been an exciting 18 months since work begun on Zenos Cars,” said co-founder Ansar Ali.

“Based on our experience, we know the sector and what drivers want, and with the Zenos E10 we have worked hard to develop a fun, engaging and affordable lightweight sports car. We’re looking forward to showing it to the world.”

With its E10 launch at Autosport International, Zenos Cars will be among more than 500 companies showcasing the latest in performance engineering technology at Birmingham’s NEC. Over £1 billion worth of new business in the sector was generated at the 2013 show, which includes two days dedicated to industry professionals, 9-10 January.

“Zenos Cars is a remarkably exciting company, that has attracted significant interest within the motoring industry in recent months,” said Ian France, Autosport International Show Director.

“With an impressive pedigree, the team has created an innovative and exciting package, including the use of recycled carbon fibre. We’re looking forward to hosting the launch of the E10 at Autosport International, and seeing the car for ourselves.”

Trade registration for Autosport International 2014 is now open, from £26 with discounts for group bookings. To register call +44 (0)845 218 6012, or visit www.autosportinternational.com.
