Motorcycle Live in association with Bikesure Insurance postponed until 2021

Show organisers for Motorcycle Live regretfully announced today that following an extensive and detailed consultation period, it has been agreed to postpone this year’s show until 2021 with concern for public safety and the wellbeing of industry colleagues being central to the decision.

The following open letter has been issued from Managing Director of Motorcycle Live, Finlay McAllan:

“Motorcycle Live is all about audience interaction, meeting with friends, climbing onto all the latest machines and trying on the all latest gear. Many of us use it as an annual pilgrimage to meet with friends and family and enjoy a great day out together. And it’s not just the public who join us each day – we, alongside our industry colleagues – look forward to the event every year too. Therefore, as you can imagine, the decision to postpone this year’s show has not been taken lightly. Our concern for the safety of our visitors, exhibitors and industry colleagues is at the heart of this decision.

“As with any hard decision, we looked at it with a number of different perspectives and factored in various scenarios and restrictions that could be imposed. Running an event like Motorcycle Live under the COVID-19 related restrictions – such as adhering to social distancing requirements, restricting attendance numbers and dictating the direction of people around the hall – all ultimately would have impacted negatively on the experience of those attending and therefore the very essence of the show.

“The whole of the Motorcycle Live team is extremely disappointed – as we’re sure that you are too – but rest assured we will continue working behind the scenes to deliver you a fantastic show in 2021. In the meantime, stay safe and look after each other.”

MCIA looks forward to welcoming exhibitors and visitors to Motorcycle Live 2021 between 20th – 28th November.

Motorcycle Live announces 2019 award winners

Visitors to the UK’s biggest bike show, Motorcycle Live in association with Bikesure Insurance, have once again voted for their winners in the following categories:  ‘Best Manufacturer Stand’, ‘Best Manufacturer Feature’, ‘Best Non-Manufacturer Experience’ and ‘Manufacturer giving the best Customer Experience’.

BMW Motorrad UK was a double winner, securing ‘Best Manufacturer Stand’ and ‘Manufacturer providing the best Customer Experience’.  BMW showcased its 30-strong range of motorcycles, including hotly-anticipated new models as well as wow-ing crowds with its ‘Make Life a Ride’ arena where instructors from the BMW Rider Training and BMW Off Road Skills schools showed off their skills. Aspiring riders also had the chance to try out a BMW for size on a rolling road.

It was a hat-trick for Suzuki UK, winning ‘Best Manufacturer Feature’ for its restoration of two of Barry Sheene’s race bikes which came from the Sheene family home in Australia. Restored in conjunction with Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme,  Sheene’s last Grand Prix bike – a DAF Trucks-sponsored 1984 Harris-framed XR45 RG500 and a special XR23A 652cc big bore RG500 were restored and fired into life at the show.

Infinity Motorcycles also achieved the hat-trick, winning ‘Best Non-Manufacturer Experience’ for the 3rd year running, by creating a retail village showcasing a huge range of products, giving customers great choice on high quality products, along with great advice.

Tom Poxon, brand communications and partnerships manager at BMW Motorrad UK, said, “The customer experience is central to everything we do at BMW Motorrad UK, so it is hugely gratifying to be recognised for providing the best customer service, alongside having Motorcycle Live’s best stand. Our presentation at the show evolves in response to customer feedback – so our new stand design, our 2020 model range, plus our live action arena are informed by all those who love the BMW Motorrad brand.”

Suzuki GB aftersales co-ordinator, Tim Davies, who organised the live Sheene build said, “To win this award for the third time in a row is absolutely fantastic and very rewarding for the work that the team put in, it makes it all worthwhile. To be able to engage with so many people at the show in this way is fantastic. To listen and talk to so many people about their memories of Barry whether it be about racing or his colourful personality is always fun.”

Dave Holloway, Sales Director of Infinity Motorcycles, said, “We’re really pleased to win the ‘Best Non-Manufacturer Experience’ for our retail village – and extremely proud that it was for the third year in a row! It means a lot to everyone involved that their efforts are appreciated by visitors.”

Suzuki displays new colours for 2020 range at Motorcycle Live

Suzuki has displayed new colours for its 2020 model range at Motorcycle Live, which is currently taking place at Birmingham’s NEC.

The GSX-S1000 super-naked – which uses the legendary GSX-R1000 K5-derived engine packed with grunt and character, housed in a lightweight twin-spar aluminium chassis and kept in check by a three-mode traction control system – comes in a new grey and matt black for 2020, set off by dark red accents and matching wheels, alongside a white version with blue detailing, and a MotoGP-inspired blue.

The same white and blue colour schemes are also available on the GSX-S750 and leaner-friendly GSX-S125. The 750 can also be had in a striking white, black, and dark red option, while the 125 is available in a standout matt grey and black. Both get red wheels.

An all black version of the GSX-S1000F – which adds a wind-cheating fairing and screen to the GSX-S1000 package to create the comfy sports bike – will be available in 2020, along with a blue and black variant and white version with subtle blue graphics.

Three MotoGP-inspired liveries on the GSX-R125 – the race replica blue with white SUZUKI lettering, an inverted white with blue lettering, and a black with red lettering – match the liveries of the 2020 GSX-R1000R.

The GSX-R1000 also comes in the MotoGP blue, but is joined by a white and black version and an all-black edition.

Off the back of launching its new V-Strom 1050XT and V-Strom 1050 at Eicma earlier this month, Suzuki has updated the colour options on the V-Strom 650XT and V-Strom 650 middleweight.

The more off-road focussed XT gets a revised version of the firm’s motocross yellow with gold spoke wheels. A black model gets the same rims, while a blue version uses black wheels.

Three colour schemes for the V-Strom 650 include a white, black, and solid grey.

Suzuki’s scooter range – which includes the Burgman 400, the original maxi-scooter – also gets new paint. The Burgman 400 can be had in white or black with classy dark blue wheels, or dark blue with black wheels.

White and silver are the options available for the Burgman 125 and Burgman 200, while the congestion-busting Address comes in a royal blue or dark blue, or gloss white.

2020 colours for Suzuki’s SV650 include a metallic silver and blue trellis frame, a matt black version uses a similarly striking red frame and wheels, while those looking for a more understated SV650 can opt for a gloss black model with black frame and wheels.

The café racer-inspired SV650X comes in black with a brown ribbed seat.

Harley-Davidson to showcase key new models and technology at Motorcycle Live 2019

The first-ever UK appearance of two exciting Harley-Davidson®  prototype models await visitors to this year’s Motorcycle Live show at Birmingham’s NEC, 16-24 November. Featuring the all-new Revolution® Max engine, the Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ and Harley-Davidson® Bronx™ 975 will take centre stage on the Harley-Davidson exhibition stand (2D15, Hall 2).

Both bikes, earmarked for launch in 2020, debuted recently at EICMA International Motorcycle Show to much acclaim. The adventure bike and streetfighter form an integral part of the Harley-Davidson More Roads strategy to extend the iconic brand into key new motorcycling segments and introduce the brand to a new breed of Harley-Davidson riders.

They will share the stage with the all-electric Harley-Davidson® LiveWire™. Show-goers will be able to sample the LiveWire instant acceleration (0-60mph in three seconds) and precise throttle control care of the Revelation® electric motor and its seamless torque delivery on our Jumpstart™ rolling road.

The all-new MY20 Softail® Low Rider® S completes the new model line-up on the Harley® stand. The brand’s latest reinvention of the performance-cruiser with Milwaukee-Eight® 114ci (1868cc) engine promises to turn heads.

The latest technology from Harley-Davidson is also on show in the form of key 2020 Touring modelsequipped with the new H-D™ Connect service, which enables remote connection to the motorcycle through a Harley-Davidson™ App for smartphones. It uses built-in cellular connectivity and GPS to keep you in the know with bike status, notifications and alerts. The Touring machines also showcase the latest rider-safety technology; highlights of which include Reflex™ Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS), a new collection of technology designed to match motorcycle performance to available traction during acceleration, deceleration and braking. The systems are designed to aid the rider in controlling the vehicle while accelerating and braking in a straight line or while in a turn. The systems are a perfect aid when riding in adverse road conditions and in urgent situations.

Custom enthusiasts are also catered for with a range of Sportster® and Dark Custom™ motorcycles to provide the ideal blank canvas inspiration for winter bike build projects.

And non-riders, who can benefit from a free Motorcycle Live ticket this year, will have the chance to talk learning to ride and motorcycle tests with 22-year-old rally driver, TV presenter and Red Bull athlete, Catie Munnings, who passed her test through the Harley-Davidson Passport to Freedom campaign this year. Until 31 December this year, new riders who passed their full motorcycle test in January 2018 or after can still benefit from the Passport to Freedom refund of training and licence costs up to the value of £1000 against the purchase of a new Harley-Davidson. Catie will be on the stand between 11am and 3pm on Tuesday 19 November to talk about her experience of learning to ride and answer questions from people interested in getting on to two wheels.

Super Soco Brings All-New 2020 Range To Motorcycle Live

The largest electric motorcycle manufacturer in the UK, Super Soco, is bringing its entire 2020 range to Motorcycle Live. Alongside the popular TC Max and CUx, will be two brand new models; the CPx and TSX. Based in Hall 4, Stand 4C25 those visiting the show are encouraged to stop by the stand to learn more about the future of motorcycling.

Since its debut in the UK in 2017, Super Soco has consistently been the best-selling electric motorcycle brand in the UK thanks to its urban-focused, cost-effective machines. After launching two new models at the 2018 Motorcycle Live show, the company will be giving a further two machines their UK debut at the 2019 event.

Unveiled at EICMA, the all-new CPx is the latest model joining the Super Soco range. Equivalent to a petrol powered 125cc machine, the CPx is the ultimate commuter, capable of up to 85 miles and a top speed of 55mph. There’s room for two 60V/45Ah batteries, which work in parallel with each other and can be fully recharged in just three and a half hours. The motor provides an incredible 4,000W and a starting torque of 171Nm.

The scooter includes a sturdy luggage rack and a 2 litre storage area, as well as a USB charging port perfect for keeping the phone or sat-nav topped up. Designed to be used all-year round, the front lights illuminates up to 75 metres ahead to ensure visibility on the darkest nights whilst a unique reverse button helps make manoeuvring around town even easier.

Coming in grey with various trim options, the machine is incredibly lightweight weighing just 135KG with both batteries installed and comes with alloy rims as standard. The CPx will be available early 2020 and will cost approximately £3,599.

Joining the CPx is the all-new TSX, a 50cc equivalent machine designed for beginner riders. With a full motorcycle frame, the lightweight machine weighs just 70kg, provides a range of up to 40 miles on one charge and has a top speed of 28mph. An optional second battery can increase the range to 80 miles and both batteries can be fully charged in under eight hours. The Streetfighter design is available in a wide range of colours and will cost £2,999.

Alongside the two new models, Super Soco will also be exhibiting the in-demand TC Max model, which has sold over 150 units since its launch in July, as well as the TS and TC machines. Also on display will be the CUx scooter, which alongside a range of base colours also comes in a specially licenced Ducati Limited Edition colour scheme.

Richard Jordan, founder of Super Soco in the UK said, “We’re really excited to be heading back to Motorcycle Live with two brand new models. Last year, we had a lot of interest from the public and journalists alike and we’re looking forward to welcoming them back this year. 2019 has been our biggest year to date, with more machines sold than ever before alongside welcoming even more dealers into our growing distribution network.”

Honda halo models to make UK debut at action-packed Motorcycle Live

Honda UK has revealed its grand plans for Motorcycle Live, where it will show off a trio of flagship models to show-goers for the very first time. True to form, Honda will display its vast range on an impressive stand at the NEC, which opens its doors on Saturday 16th November.

Crowning the Super Sport and Adventure families respectively, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and CRF1100L Africa Twin have benefited from significant overhauls as they have evolved into the latest generation models. Various derivatives of both models will be on display at the show and the same goes for the GL1800 Gold Wing line-up.

Also carrying updates into the show are the CB1000R, CMX500 Rebel and SH125i. Elsewhere on stand will be the CB1100 RS 5Four, which will be joined by its creator, Guy Willison, on both weekends. Furthermore, a cross-section of models from the Super Sport, Street, Adventure, Scooter and Off Road ranges will be well represented; and from road to racing, Marc Marquez’s championship-winning RC213V will be display with the MotoGP star’s iconic eight-ball.

For 2019, the Honda stand takes on a distinct look and feel with interactive elements and a host of live features, which will be dotted in and around the plethora of bikes, such as the pop-up stalls housing Honda experience centres representatives and information hubs. Honda’s presence at the show will go beyond the stand, with opportunities for visitors to ride various Honda models.

Honda at Motorcycle Live 2019

Taking pride of place on stand will be the all-new 2020 CBR1000RR-R Fireblade(s). Redesigned from the ground-up, the latest generation Super Sport motorcycle moves the game on significantly, drawing heavily on the RC213V-S to deliver unprecedented levels of performance. Nestled within the all-new aluminium diamond frame is the 1000cc inline four engine that benefits from HRC technology and an Akrapovic exhaust system.

From one model steeped in motorsport glory to another, the Africa Twin. Developed to conquer the fearsome Dakar Rally, the legend has lost none of its kudos in advancing to the latest generation. Still powered by a parallel twin and sporting the recognisable Tricolour scheme, the two versions channel the spirit of the original, doing so with a suite of modern technology that makes it as capable on road as it is off.

Adding a fourth string to the GL1800 range’s bow is the new Gold Wing DCT. The top-box-less Gold Wing made its UK debut at Motorcycle Live last year, however it was exclusively manufactured with a manual transmission. For 2020, the sleeker model is available with DCT, reflecting the transmission options offered on the Tour model. Complimenting the new derivative are range-wide improvements to the suspension and fuel-injection system.

Sure to steal plenty of attention is the CB1100 RS 5Four. Limited to a production run of just 54 units, this model starts out life as a standard CB1100 RS, before renowned bike builder Guy Willison applies his expertise, imparting a classic, Café Racer aesthetic to the already retro-inspired, air-cooled motorcycle. To complete the cosmetic transformation only the highest-grade materials are used – the sculpted handlebar fairing and single seat tail unit, both fashioned out of aluminium, are testament to the quality approach.

On-stand attractions won’t stop at the bikes. A live rolling road will provide the opportunity for visitors to experience first-hand the super-fast and super-smooth shifts of DCT, as well as the plush ride facilitated by the new Africa Twin Adventure Sport’s sophisticated Electronic Suspension.

Those interested in joining the Gold Wing community will be welcomed into the Gold Wing lounge for a full rundown on the model, courtesy of a Gold Wing specialist. Elsewhere, Honda Finance and the Q&A Tech Desk will help prospective and current Honda riders make the most of their ownership experiences. Current bikers can also share their passion for riding in the www.Hondaengineroom.co.uk video booth.

Pop-up stalls will house Ron Haslam Race School Experience and Dave Thorpe Honda Off-Road and Adventure Centres representatives; riders planning on visiting either, can take advantage of Motorcycle Live exclusive offers and enter the Honda Experience prize draw. Adventure-seeking riders will also have the chance to learn more about Austin Vince’s Mini Mondo trips.

As is customary at the show, there’ll be plenty of chances to ride a Honda away from the stand. Test the new Africa Twin’s mettle off-road in the Experience Adventure space or take to the road from the Test Ride base. Even those without a licence can get in on the riding action too, at the MCIA TryRIDE feature, where CB125Rs and Honda scooters will be available.

Speaking ahead of the exhibition, Head of Honda Motorcycles Neil Fletcher said: ‘Motorcycle Live is a huge event on the Honda calendar and we’re really looking forward to it off the back of a big EICMA. With two all-new flagship models in the Fireblade and Africa Twin, we can’t wait for the doors to open to the NEC so the British public can get up close to these amazing bikes for the first time.’

Suzuki to restore more Sheene bikes at Motorcycle Live

Three more of Barry Sheene’s race bikes have arrived at Suzuki GB from the family home in Australia, and two of them will be restored at this year’s Motorcycle Live, which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC from 16-24 November.

Watch the arrival and uncrating of the three bikes

Sheene’s last Grand Prix bike – a DAF Trucks-sponsored 1984 Harris-framed XR45 RG500 – arrived alongside a 1978 XR27 RG500 and a special XR23A 652cc big bore RG500, raced in the Trans Atlantic series and F1 Championship in 1979.

In conjunction with Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme, both the XR45 and XR23A will be refurbished and fired into life once again at Motorcycle Live, while the XR27 will be displayed alongside Sheene’s 1976 and 1977 world championship-winning XR14s, both of which were also restored thanks to the Vintage Parts Programme in 2017.

Suzuki GB aftersales marketing coordinator, Tim Davies, said, “This is another special moment for us. These bikes haven’t been back in the UK since Barry and his family emigrated to Australia, so it’s quite something to get them out of the crates and see them here again. But it’s going to be even more of a special occasion when they live again, thanks to the restoration process which will be carried out by former ‘70s and ‘80s Grand Prix technician Nigel Everett and former mechanic for Barry Sheene, Martyn Ogborne. And it’s a great opportunity for fans to again see, hear, and smell them as they would have existed at the time. We can’t wait.”

Launched in 2013, Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme exists to help owners of older Suzukis keep their machines maintained or help with restoration projects, with a host of parts available from cylinders, pistons, and conrods, to a range of bearings and seals, and everything in between.
