Custom Xtreme Zone

Here at Back Street Heroes – not only the original, but also the most successful custom bike magazine of all – we’re proud to have been responsible for having organised the Custom Xtreme display at the NEC for the last dozen years or so. This year, BSH incorporates Streetfighters, thereby consolidating the very best of traditional and high-performance custom bikes in a single package.

This high-profile showcase is dedicated exclusively to the work of the UK’s most highly-talented and ingenious builders – professional and amateur alike – all of whom remain consistently passionate about fusing exquisite engineering and absolute art into a single motorcycle. Whether you’re looking for the experimental ingenuity and innovation of the BSH bikes, or the stripped-down, adrenaline-fuelled excitement of a Streetfighters creation, you’re guaranteed to find it at Custom Xtreme.

Quite simply, Custom Xtreme is an unprecedented collection of the UK’s very finest hand-built motorcycles – some having been featured in BSH and Streetfighters, others hot off the workbench – the like of which you won’t find anywhere else.

And for 2013, we can confidently predict that Custom Xtreme will again feature the most outrageous, extraordinary machines ranking amongst the very best you’ll ever see anywhere in the world.

So make sure you visit Custom Xtreme during your time at the show, and prepare to be amazed!

World Champions Schwantz, Spencer and Corser Head two Wheeled Line up at Goodwood Revival

A superb line-up of legendary motorcycle racers, led by former World Champions Kevin Schwantz, Freddie Spencer and Troy Corser, will take part in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy at the Goodwood Revival on September 11-13.

Schwantz, who won legions of fans with his no-holds-barred style on his way to the 500cc world title in 1993, and made his Revival debut last year on the ex-Geoff Duke Featherbed Norton, will ride a 1961 Manx Norton 500 with Rodney O’Connor.

Fellow American Spencer, a two-time 500cc World Champion himself, will also be Norton-mounted, riding a 1962 model with entrant Julian Ide.

Australian Corser, whose World Superbike crowns came in 1996 and 2005, is, as usual, BMW-mounted, and will have a rare Kaczor R50S at the disposal of himself and co-rider Sebastian Gutsch.

Former GP racers Steve Parrish and Jeremy McWilliams are always popular additions to the Revival line-up. Both return for 2015 with Parrish, Barry Sheene’s close friend and team-mate during his 1977 500cc title-winning season, riding a 1962 Matchless G50 and McWilliams – twice a Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy winner – on a 1961 Norton.

Isle of Man TT winners Mick Grant and Gary Johnson are reunited on the 1964 MV Agusta 500/3 on which they won at Goodwood in 2013, while another TT winner, Charlie Williams, has a 1962 Norton at his disposal.

Two more TT victors, Ian Simpson and Michael Rutter, also return. Rutter will ride a 1962 Manx Norton with Simpson on a 1966 Hansen Honda CR450. Fellow road-racing favourites Maria Costello and Keith Amor will be attempting to upstage them on, respectively, a BMW RS54 and a Norton.

British Superbike race winners James Whitham and Steve Plater will share a Matchless G50 while three more former front-runners from the championship, James Haydon, Glen Richards and Steve Brogan have, respectively, Matchless, MV Agusta and Norton machinery to power their ambitions during the weekend.

Derek Crutchlow, father of MotoGP star Cal Crutchlow, and himself a former World Endurance Championship racer, will make his Revival debut on a Norton, as will Taylor Mackenzie, son of three-time British Superbike Champion Niall; the latter on a bike entered by GP winner Chas Mortimer.

The Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, which is this year for 500cc grand prix motorcycles of 1960-66, comprises one race on Saturday and one on Sunday, with a mandatory mid-race rider change in the pits for each bike and overall results decided on the aggregate finishing times of both races.

Previous winners include former 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner, Barry Sheene himself, (when the race was known as the Lennox Cup), Mick Grant, Michael Rutter and Jeremy McWilliams

Astonishing Bienville Legacy Motorcycle set for World Debut Performance at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Goodwood Festival of Speed will host the global public debut of the astonishing Bienville Legacy – set to be one of the most powerful four-cylinder production motorcycles ever created – on 25-28 June this Summer.

Born from Bienville Studios in New Orleans, Louisiana, the JT Nesbitt-designed Legacy has been in development for over three years and is widely acknowledged as one of the finest examples of two-wheeled design ever produced.

The Legacy advances motorcycle design with patented suspension leveraging one composite leaf-spring with the engine mounted at its centre. Carbon-composite blades allow for rake and trail adjustment for the first time on a production motorcycle.

Three concept models have been produced to-date, establishing an exquisite bill of materials in titanium, carbon fibre, leather, and mahogany. Powered by the American-made 1650cc Motus V4 engine, production models will be supercharged and provide up to 300bhp.

The Legacy will be ridden up the iconic 1.16-mile Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb by Jim Jacoby and Scott Miller. Both founded the ADMCi Foundation which has supported the Legacy project from its inception.

The Legacy is just the latest addition to a two-wheeled entry that includes MotoGP legends Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner, Giacomo Agostini, Freddie Spencer, John Surtees, Jim Redman and Kenny Roberts plus a celebration of Yamaha Motor Company’s 60th anniversary, featuring an astonishing array of bikes from the Japanese manufacturer.

Solberg, Croft And Record Attempts For Live Action Arena

FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg will star in next weekend’s Autosport International Live Action Arena, which will be hosted by Sky Sports F1’s David Croft and feature a Guinness World Record attempt from Brit Alastair Moffat.

The Live Action Arena is the UK’s largest indoor racetrack, home to exciting, 70-minute shows packed with live racing, stunts and celebrity appearances over the course of the 8-11 January* event at Birmingham’s NEC.

Also a former World Rally Champion, Solberg will demonstrate a Citroën Xsara WRC, the car which carried the French manufacturer to six FIA world titles in four years, entertaining 5,000 fans in each session.

“Driving a car like my Citroën Xsara WRC inside definitely isn’t something you get to do every day, so I’m really looking forward to the Live Action Arena shows,” Solberg said.

“With so much power and noise, it’s a sensational car for the stages, and I’m sure it’ll look and sound even better within the confines of the NEC to all of the fans.”

A popular broadcaster, ‘Crofty’ will introduce the action, share his take on the world of Formula 1 and interview motorsport stars including 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard and Croft’s Sky Sports F1 colleague and newly-crowned FIA World Endurance Champion Anthony Davidson.

“The Live Action Arena showcase is unique and adrenaline-fuelled. There’s really something for everyone in each show, whether you’re there to see the racing, be amazed by the stunts or hear from the stars,” he said.

“It’ll be great to see Petter Solberg on the limit in such a confined environment, and catch up with the likes of David Coulthard and my Sky Sports F1 buddy Anthony Davidson, sharing their take on the 2014 F1 season and looking ahead to 2015.”

In each show, Alastair Moffat will look to reclaim his Guinness World Record for the world’s tightest parallel park. Set in 2013, Moffat’s record of performing a handbrake park into a space just 3.4 inches longer than the Mini he was driving was broken in November by Chinese Drift Champion Han Yue.

Excitement also comes through side-by-side racing from BTRDA Rallycross Clubman Championship Super Modifieds, BriSCA F2, BriSCA F1 Stock Cars, Autograss Class 7 and Specials, while Team Japspeed will return with sensational drifting demonstrations.

From motoring’s Performance Car Show, presented by Landsail Tyres, in association with Autocar and PistonHeads.com, a collection of Autocar’s Britain’s Best Driver’s Cars 2014 will also feature, led by the Ferrari 458 Speciale, McLaren 650S and Porsche P11 GT3.

Including Live Action Arena access, tickets to Autosport International are available from £32 for adults, with children’s tickets priced from £21 and children under five years admitted for free. For tickets, visit www.autosportinternational.com

Goodwood Revival to stage exclusive Ferrari-only contest for Lavant Cup

This year’s Goodwood Revival, on September 11-13, will pay tribute to the great Ferrari racing sports cars of the 1950s by staging a special race exclusively for drum-braked machines from the iconic Maranello manufacturer.

The Lavant Cup, which was held exclusively for Jaguar D-Types in 2014, will sing to the sound of an Italian opera as some of the most beautiful machines ever adorned by the Prancing Horse badge race for victory, driven by a number of the world’s top historic racers.

Enzo Ferrari’s machines achieved phenomenal success in international motor sport during the 1950s, taking five World Sportscar Championship titles, and scoring victories in all the classic races, including Le Mans, Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, Carrera Panamericana, Sebring, Nurburgring and Spa.

Among the drivers who achieved these incredible successes were Formula 1 World Champions Alberto Ascari, Giuseppe Farina, Juan Manuel Fangio and Phil Hill, grand prix winners Peter Collins, Dan Gurney, and Froilan Gonzalez, and sports car legends Olivier Gendebien and Clemente Biondetti.

The Lavant Cup is set to feature such iconic machinery as the 166MM, an example of which took Ferrari’s maiden Le Mans triumph in 1949 in the hands of Luigi Chinetti and Lord Selsdon, the 340MM, 375MM and 750 Monza, all of which were instrumental in establishing Ferrari as the most successful sports car marque of the decade.

Various iterations of the 250 Testa Rossa, which was taken to victory three times in four years from 1958-61 by, among others, Hill and Gendebien, are also expected at the 18th running of the world’s greatest historic motor racing and vintage culture festival.

Prescott Bike Festival – The biggest annual fundraiser for The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes

Prescott Bike Festival is often hailed as the ‘Start of the Season’ Motorcycle Festival and will take place once again on Sunday 12th April 2015 at Prescott Hill Climb, home of the prestigious Bugatti Owners Club, Cheltenham. Each year the event goes from strength to strength and 2015 is no exception.

The 2015 Prescott Bike Festival will feature a large displays of historic, modern and race bikes, plus a Paddock Specials Show ‘n’ Tell area, motorcycle manufacturers, dealer zone, motorcycle clubs, demo areas, passenger ride experiences, live music, stunt show, biker celebrity appearances and hundreds of trade stands – all set in one of the most stunning, historic and relaxed motor sport venues in the country. For the first time, the Festival is offering Test Rides featuring the KTM Adventure fleet.

Unlike a static bike show, Prescott gives you the unique opportunity to get up close and see lots of historic, classic and race bikes and watch (smell and hear) them run the historic hill climb course; “better than Goodwood”, said one excited visitor last year. Its not just for modern bikes either, the classic marquees are well represented with the likes of Bantam, AJS, BSA, Rudge, Royal Enfield, Douglas, Manxman, Ariel, Matchless and Norton. Whilst there are just too many entries to mention, here are a few to whet your appetite;

· A 1963 Norton Manx 350cc Reverse Head built by Ray Petty

· And of course the ‘fizzie’ a true icon of the 70’s! A 1974 Yamaha FS1E, the must-have bike for any 16 year old of the period, and probably the desire for many to own again now

At the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Mike West Racing will showcase an incredible collection of famous race bikes in the paddock, alongside the Carlos Checa’s MotoGP Ducati Desmosedici GP5 and Checa’s 2011 WSB winning Ducati 1198 F1. Plus NEW for 2015 – the MADMAX Race Team and their Madmax Turbine Streetfighter, the World’s first jet turbine streetfighter street legal motorbike which recently set a land speed record doing an astonishing 224.5mph.

Come and meet our special ‘biker’ celebs: four times World Superbike Champion and ‘King of the Jungle’; Carl Fogarty (thanks to our friends at Oily Rag Clothing), former three times British Superbike Champion and Blood Bike ambassador John Reynolds, motorcycle adventurer Nick Sanders, who has motorcycled around the world seven times and adventurer Charley Boorman, best known for making an epic 20,000-mile journey across the globe by motorbike with close friend Ewan McGregor in the television series Long Way Round, plus David Hailwood son of the TT racing legend Mike ‘The Bike’ Hailwood and former World Darts Champion Andy Fordham.

Record Breaking Crowd for London Motorcycle Show

For the third consecutive year, the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show broke its attendance record, with 39,647 people passing through its doors over the three day event.

Thousands of bike fans descended upon London’s ExCeL centre over the Valentine’s weekend to not only get up close and personal with the latest 2015 models from the world’s best manufacturers, but also rub shoulders with a host of famous two wheel stars.

Highlights from the show included ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ winner Carl Fogarty officially opening the event on Friday morning, while alongside him was Britain’s MotoGP hopeful Scott Redding who flew back especially from testing his factory Honda in Malaysia. Race fans were well catered for throughout the weekend, with a number of MCE British Superbike announcements and a world exclusive collection of title winning machines raced by Italian legend Valentino Rossi, which proved highly popular with visitors.

The new for 2015 live-action show ‘SLIDE’, in association with Michelin, also proved incredibly popular as fans packed around the arena to watch the thrills and spills of Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness and BSB stars James Whitham, Chris Walker and Taylor Mackenzie battling for victory.

Rebecca Donohue, Head of Marketing at Carole Nash Insurance, said, “As title sponsors of the show, we were more than impressed with the event this year. It’s a really positive sign that the market is picking up and that was backed up by the number of visitors in attendance – and we even got a glimpse of the King of the Jungle! We also had some really great feedback on our new Bikers Only car insurance offering, which was great to hear. As ever, we were on hand to handle queries and questions from our customers – which is one of the main reasons why we spend so much time and effort in attending these events. Well done to all at MCN for organising another fab show!”

Rob Aherne, Managing Director of Motorcycling at Bauer Media summed up, “We are delighted that this year’s event has delivered a third straight year of growth, but more than that we feel that we have put on our best London show yet. ‘‘As well as fantastic visitor numbers, there was a real buzz about the place that reflects how vibrant the UK market is at the moment. It’s a big, big change from where the industry was at 18 months ago – I think we are all set for another great year.”

The 2015 show also marked a special showcase of the most influential motorcycles from the past sixty years as part of MCN’s ongoing celebrations of their sixtieth anniversary. The next highlight on the calendar will be the launch of the MCN Festival of Motorcycling (May 16-17) which will give bikers the opportunity to see and hear some of motorcycling’s most iconic machines as well as test ride the full spectrum of 2015 bikes.
