Dunlop Trailmax Raid celebrates one year of allowing adventure riders to explore without limits

Dunlop Trailmax Raid celebrates one year of allowing adventure riders to explore without limitsDunlop is celebrating the first anniversary of the launch of Trailmax Raid. Developed as Dunlop’s first 50/50 on/off-road offering, Trailmax Raid combines expertise and technology from the brand’s extensive adventure riding and touring range with that from its off-road sector.

Launched to the media amidst the scenic beauty of the Italian Tuscan hills 12 months ago, the release of Trailmax Raid underlined Dunlop’s commitment to developing a range that was able to suit the needs of every rider. Trailmax Raid was introduced in a size kit that covers everything between mid-size Dual-Sport to crossovers as well as large displacement adventure touring bikes.

A trusted tire choice in the adventure segment

Over the last 12 months, Trailmax Raid has proven to be a popular choice in the trail and adventure segment, becoming the trusted tire of riders, journalists, influencers, and adventure and experience riding schools across Europe. Many have praised the tire’s characteristics, highlighting its “remarkable” off-road and “outstanding” on-road behaviour, praising the high levels of confidence it provides when riding on and off asphalt.

Trailmax Raid has also become the tire choice of several off-road experience centres and riding schools across Europe, where hundreds of off-road riding enthusiasts in the UK, Italy, France, Switzerland, Spain, Germany and Greece have learned to hone their off-road riding skills on bikes equipped with Trailmax Raid. The tire has demonstrated its success in equipping adventure bikes from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Harley-Davidson, among other manufacturers, solidifying it as an ideal choice for novice riders.

In addition, 2023 marked Dunlop’s return to EICMA, the world’s largest motorcycle show. Dunlop proudly showcased its full trail lineup at EICMA, prominently featuring Trailmax Raid at the centre of the Dunlop stand. This reaffirmed Dunlop’s confidence in Trailmax Raid to sit as an exemplary model within its product range.

A 50/50 on/off road tire, Trailmax Raid is positioned in Dunlop’s trail range alongside Trailmax Meridian, and highlights Dunlop’s strongest adventure trail offering to date. Trailmax Meridian offers off-road capability for occasional use, whereas Trailmax Raid is designed specifically for riders who demand more regular off-road performance.

With a range stretching from Trailmax Meridian to the pure off-road D908 RR, as part of a portfolio that includes the incredibly versatile Mutant, the value-orientated Trailmax, Trailmax Mixtour and the globetrotter tire Trailmax Mission; the addition of Trailmax Raid covers the needs of riders requiring ultimate versatility from their adventure bikes.

Dunlop SportSmart TT impresses at Suzuki GSX-8R launch

Dunlop SportSmart TT was the chosen tire of Suzuki to equip the launch of its new GSX-8R in January, helping to extract maximum performance out of the new model.

The launch took place at the same Monteblanco Circuit that Dunlop used to launch SportSmart TT six years ago.

The Suzuki GSX-8R, announced at EICMA in 2023 and commercially launched in January 2024, is based on its naked GSX-8S predecessor, but features a host of updated features to focus it more as a sport bike. The GSX-8R comprises an exposed 776cc parallel twin-powered engine and seat rail, and is equipped with a fairing and separate handlebars, making it suitable for track riding.

Engineered for versatility across road and track riding, Dunlop SportSmart TT was expertly placed to highlight the advanced capabilities of the GSX-8R, with both products demonstrating the ability to strike an impressive balance between sporty, track riding and comfort.

SportSmart TT: Race-winning technologies for track and road
A track-capable bike requires a track-capable tire. In fact, the TT in the tire name refers to ‘Track Technology’ and signifies Dunlop’s commitment to superior performance on track.

SportSmart TT’s NTEC RT technology allows for its rear pressure to be lowered for track use, giving more grip by enlarging the tire’s contact patch. Its Speed Vent Tread, meanwhile, is a tread groove pattern that opens and closes when the tire turns, improving heat dissipation. On the front tire, a revised dynamic mould profile gives the rare balance between lower steering effort and optimum turn-in grip, delivering enhanced feedback and confidence when braking and turning.

Suzuki invited 50 journalists from more than 10 countries to the test, many of whom commented favourably on the bike’s behaviour with the SportSmart TT tires, noting it had “improved” when turning into corners, and that the tire gave “much more support” for the bike, resulting in good grip, stability and control when riding on tarmac.

“We are honoured to have played a crucial role in the launch of the new Suzuki GSX-8R,” commented Dmitri Talboom, Product Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “Dunlop SportSmart TT’s combination of track-focused performance and road versatility perfectly complements the new GSX-8R, making it a great choice for riders that want to excel on both the road, and the track.”

Roberto Finetti, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe, added: “We developed SportSmart TT to allow riders to combine road and track riding, and are proud that this successful collaboration with Suzuki serves as a testament to the capabilities of both the GSX-8R and SportSmart TT. Congratulations to Suzuki for a highly successful launch.”

Dunlop Trailmax Raid chosen for rally-inspired special edition from Suzuki Italy

Suzuki Italy has revealed a special edition of its popular V-Strom model, featuring Dunlop Trailmax Raid tyres as part of a package of adventure-focused upgrades that evoke memories of Suzuki’s historic off-road prowess.

The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Djebel was revealed at the Motor Bike Expo in Verona, Italy, earlier this month, and is characterised by graphics reminiscent of the brand’s enduro models of the 80s and 90s, and the DR-Z which raced in several editions of the Dakar rally.

A key technical upgrade is the selection of Dunlop Trailmax Raid tires for the 21 and 17-inch rims. Dunlop’s 50/50 on/off-road tyre was revealed last year and is designed for riders who require confidence-inspiring off-road performance without compromising on wet and dry on-road traction. Furthermore, the tyre’s rally raid-inspired design offers a more ‘off-road ready’ style than the Trailmax Mixtour tires available on the standard V-Strom 800DE model.

Marco Quaglino, Sales Manager Moto & Marine, Suzuki Italy: “We wanted to further emphasise the off-road soul of the V-Strom 800DE Djebel by preparing it so that it would be ready to tackle any road. The choice of tyres fell on Dunlop Trailmax Raid, which provide excellent performance both off-road and on asphalt, offering high versatility to customers.”

In the last 12 months, Trailmax Raid has become a key product in the trail and adventure tire market, increasing Dunlop’s offering to the segment alongside other key tyres, including Trailmax Meridian for 90% on-road adventure touring use, the Mutant crossover tire with its excellent wet weather performance and Trailmax Mission for long-distance adventure riding in tough terrains.

They sit alongside more products, such as Trailmax Mixtour and D908RR, which together combine to create Dunlop’s most comprehensive trail offering yet.

Roberto Finetti, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “It is exciting to see Dunlop Trailmax Raid chosen as a key upgrade to the special edition V-Strom 800DE Djebel. Not only does Trailmax Raid provide on and off-road performance worthy of this heritage edition bike, but it has been designed to look the part on adventure-focused models like this, too.

“Since launching Trialmax Raid a year ago, we have been pleased with its reception in the market, helping to solidify Dunlop’s stronger than ever trail/adventure range, following the introduction of Trailmax Meridian, Trailmax Mission and Mutant to offer wide-ranging options that suit all types of adventure riders.”

Top motocross brands choose Dunlop Geomax MX34 as standard fitment

Dunlop’s next-generation soft-mid MX tire, the Geomax MX34, has been selected by three prominent motocross manufacturers as the standard original equipment tire on their factory edition bikes. Following their selection of Geomax MX33 last year, the latest Geomax range has been chosen by KTM, GasGas and Husqvarna, solidifying Dunlop’s continued partnership with manufacturers competing at the highest level of motocross competition.

Geomax MX34 has been fitted on the KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition, the GasGas MC 450F Factory Edition, and Husqvarna FC 450 Rockstar Edition, which share the same chassis design and unmissable team graphics as the bikes used by their respective factory race teams in the fiercely competitive AMA Supercross Championship, which got underway earlier this month.

The factory edition bikes have been enhanced with new refinements and game-changing technologies compared to their predecessors, aiming to elevate performance to an even higher level and bring riders as close to the pro level as possible, all the while supported by Dunlop’s championship-winning tire.

Dunlop Geomax MX34 ensures improved cornering performance and front and rear slide control versus Geomax MX33, providing the straight-line stability and corner control that is crucial for riders to perform at their best in the Supercross competition. The new rear pattern allows riders to accelerate confidently on soft, mud and intermediate tracks, contributing to race-winning lap times. Adding to that is the next-generation Progressive Cornering Block Technology (PCBT), which facilitates superior absorption and improved ground contact for optimal traction and performance.

Miguel Morais, Original Equipment Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle EMEA: “We are thrilled that the Geomax MX34 tire has been chosen as the original fitment for factory edition bikes from three top manufacturers: KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas. We are delighted to offer riders and teams a tire that provides stability and confidence across a range of conditions, empowering them to give their all on the track throughout 2024.”

The majority of the riders competing in the 2024 AMA Supercross Championship have chosen the Dunlop Geomax range, continuing to confirm Dunlop as the preferred tire option among the best riders. Meanwhile, Dunlop is looking to continue the streak of winning every AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross title since 2010 in the new season.

As the FIM Motocross World Championship, starting in Argentina on 10th March, approaches, anticipation builds for the Geomax MX34 to continue its strong performance on the global motocross stage.

Dunlop has revealed the newest addition to its enduro tyre range: Geomax EN91 EX.

Based on the race-winning Geomax EN91, the new EN91 EX rear tyre is designed for both highly skilled enduro riders racing in the most extreme events and weekend enthusiasts seeking improved performance for their enduro rides.

This super soft tyre promises an unprecedented level of performance, offering enhanced grip, particularly on the most challenging and slippery terrains, as well as superior traction across a wide spectrum of landscapes. Dunlop introduces Geomax MX34: Next generation intermediate MX Tyre

Dunlop has further developed its championship-winning Geomax motocross range with the introduction of Geomax MX34, a versatile MX tire with a number of innovations that build on its acclaimed predecessor.

With the aim to provide more grip for motocross riders of all levels, from professional racers to amateurs, Geomax MX34 has been designed with race-proven performance and consistency in mind. It is the successor to Geomax MX33, which has become the tire of choice on a wide range of soft, mud and intermediate surfaces, and in variable weather conditions.

The new tire sits in the range between the sand and mud-orientated Geomax MX14 and the intermediate to hardpack-focused Geomax MX53.

Ride like a champion: Race-proven technology
Geomax MX34 has already been raced by some of the world’s top motocross riders in both the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) and AMA Supercross Championship. Whether it’s motocross or racing slicks for superbikes, Dunlop works with teams to develop its future tires on the track, giving race-proven performance to all riders.

The new tire features improved designs on both front and rear. On the front, an optimised block design and updated compound gives enhanced traction and durability compared to its predecessor. Larger spacing between blocks achieves superior mud evacuation, meanwhile.

On the rear tire, the centre blocks have been made 11% higher and 44% wider to deliver more traction. This increased rear grip gives riders greatly improved acceleration and better feel and feedback. Together, the new designs also offer improved standing-start grip to help with holeshot potential.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “The new Dunlop Geomax MX34 adds even more traction and pace to what was already an exceptional tire. Working with top teams in MXGP and Supercross, we have improved a number of features to give riders of all levels better durability, traction and slide control on a wide range of soft to intermediate surfaces. Together with Geomax MX14 and MX53, we are proud to offer our strongest motocross range yet, drawing on our innovations from winning in top professional championships.”

Geomax MX34 will be available from July 2023 in 17 sizes, covering 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 and 21-inch front fitments, and 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 19-inch rear fitments.

Dunlop to join Harley-Davidson’s 120th anniversary celebration

Dunlop will celebrate its history and collaboration with the iconic motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson when it attends HD120 in Budapest on 22nd to 25th June.

2023 marks the 120th anniversary of the motorcycle manufacturer, which it is set to celebrate with the HD120 event at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

HD120 follows on from previous successful HD anniversary events in Prague and Rome, at which Dunlop also had a strong presence. The anniversary celebrations bring together the community of motorcycle enthusiasts with a shared passion for the Harley-Davidson brand.

Dunlop will have a significant presence at HD120, with a large activation next to the main stage. As an official partner, Dunlop will display some of its latest products at the event, including its flagship range of Harley-Davidson co-branded tires, developed in collaboration with the manufacturer to extract the desired riding feel and characteristics that make Harley-Davidsons so iconic.

Part of the activation includes the Dunlop APE Hanger Challenge, where visitors can test their strength against fellow riders and enthusiasts. A set of Dunlop tires are available to win on each day of the festival.

Next to the Harley-Davidson service area, Dunlop will offer full tire service options in cooperation with Harley-Davidson official service. Riders can also receive a tire health check or leave with a brand new set of Dunlop tires.

Two powerful icons. One powerful partnership.

This year also marks 40 years of Dunlop and Harley-Davidson’s relationship. In 1983, Dunlop first partnered to fit Sportster and FL models. The event is set to celebrate motorcycle culture and heritage, with live music, food and competitions.

Dunlop’s motorcycle heritage dates back to the late 1800s and, while bikes may have become more powerful, the Dunlop philosophy remains the same – to stay ahead of the competition by pursuing innovation.

During its 40-year partnership, Dunlop has gripped some of Harley-Davidson’s most successful bikes, such as the Fat Boy, Softail and Sportster ranges. Today, Dunlop produces a number of bespoke tires across Harley-Davidson’s diverse range.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to join Harley-Davidson on such a momentous occasion. With a relationship that stretches over 40 years, not only are we celebrating the heritage of both brands, but we’re also looking ahead to further strengthening our partnership.

“We cannot wait to be among our customers and the wider biker community in June to celebrate. Dunlop’s display will feature exciting activities, prize giveaways and inspire riders.”

Dunlop Trailmax Raid allows adventure riders to explore without limits

The all-new Dunlop Trailmax Raid is designed for 50% on-road and 50% off-road use, combining expertise and technology from Dunlop’s extensive adventure riding and touring range with that from its off-road sector.

It is suitable for a wide range of bikes from mid-size dual sports to large adventure bikes, offering off-road ability and predictability paired with superb wet weather capability and adventure touring performance.

Rally raid-inspired design meets leading road tyre technology

Trailmax Raid’s design was inspired by Dunlop’s D908 RR, a purely off-road rally raid tyre characterised by the pronounced blocks on its tread, which are now a key part of Trailmax Raid’s profile. For Trailmax Raid, there are bars between these blocks to improve handling and stability for heavier bikes, while grip at higher lean angles when riding on the road is ensured by smaller gaps between blocks and large centre blocks on the rear tyre.

This off-road tread pattern is combined with Dunlop’s latest technologies that are available in its premium on-road tyres. These include:

  • Dynamic Front Formula: This combination of Dunlop’s experience brings together a unique section profile and casing design to give a confidence inspiring feeling and an optimal front/rear balance.
  • Hi-Silica compound: An increased Silica filler ratio promotes compound flexibility at low temperatures to improve wet weather grip and mileage. The compound itself is an all-new formula, uniting the properties required to withstand off-roading with those of Dunlop’s trail road tyres.
  • CTCS: Dunlop’s Carcass Tension Control System gives consistent tension across the whole casing width. This optimises the contact patch.
  • JLB: The Jointless Belt is a trademark Dunlop design, developed in world championship racing, which boosts durability and consistency.

From off-road to touring: Dunlop has the adventure segment covered

The new tyre sits in Dunlop’s trail range alongside Trailmax Meridian, which has become a highly popular tyre for adventure touring since its release three years ago. Trailmax Meridian offers off-road capability for occasional use, whereas Trailmax Raid is designed specifically for riders who demand more regular off-road performance.

With a range stretching from Trailmax Meridian to the pure off-road D908 RR, as part of a portfolio that includes the incredibly versatile Mutant, the value-orientated Trailmax and Trailmax Mixtour; the addition of Trailmax Raid covers the needs of riders requiring ultimate versatility from their adventure bikes.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “By combining our expertise and technologies from the off-road, adventure touring and sports touring segments, we have created a true 50/50 tyre that exceeds expectations for a wide range of bikes in varied conditions. From a trade perspective, Trailmax Raid is an important product, as there is faster growth in the on/off road segment than any other part of the trail tyre market.

“From a rider perspective, Trailmax Raid gives reassuring performance on wet roads, unlocking even more versatility than they might expect from a tyre that also delivers excellent off-road braking and traction.”

Beyond adventure: A tyre that transcends segments

The Trailmax Raid size kit goes beyond traditional adventure bike models, covering everything between mid-size Dual-Sport to crossovers as well as large displacement adventure touring bikes.

Trailmax Raid will be available in three front sizes covering 19 and 21-inch fitments, and six rear sizes for 17 and 18-inch wheels. Initial sizes are on sale now, with the remainder being released during Q2 2023.

Dunlop Sportmax Q-Lite: Sports touring performance for lightweight bikes

Dunlop has launched its latest sports touring tyre, Sportmax Q-Lite, which combines hypersport-style performance with a high-mileage tread and improved handling.

This mix makes the Sportmax Q-Lite suitable to tackle the demands of daily riding on lightweight bikes, such as the 125cc and 250cc categories.

The tyre brings hypersport design and performance to the lightweight sector. Advances in the single radius profile of the Sportmax Q-Lite gives the rider a similar feel at any speed or lean angle. This feature is crucial to giving riders a consistent level of confidence whether riding in the city or navigating a twisty road.

Sportmax Q-Lite replaces the TT900 GP and offers a 60% mileage improvement compared to its predecessor1. It is also a marked improvement in overall grip and handling thanks to breakthroughs in tread design allowing for an optimised contact patch even under high loads.

Dunlop has developed a bespoke compound for the Sportmax Q-Lite. It features a full carbon compound with state-of-the-art grip resins that provide added grip on both wet and dry surfaces by optimising the pattern design, tyre profiles, tread compound and casing construction.

The hypersport-inspired tread pattern gives it a sporty appearance with grip and handling to match. Structurally, the tyre casing stiffness has been optimised per individual size by adjusting the carcass construction and number of breakers. Furthermore, groove shapes were developed using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) simulation to optimise mileage and reduce uneven wear.

Dunlop reveals insights into RoadSmart IV technologies

The Dunlop RoadSmart IV is the brand’s most versatile sport-touring tyre yet and features a combination of Dunlop’s innovations to create a multi-talented tyre that aims to set new standards in handling, stability, wet grip and mileage.

Beyond sport-touring: A tyre without boundaries
The sport-touring sector has become incredibly diverse as motorcycle genres overlap each other. Naked roadsters, crossover designs, road-focused adventure bikes, hyper-nakeds as well as traditional sport-tourers, were all in the design remit for RoadSmart IV.

Dunlop saw this broadening of the segment as an opportunity to create an all-new RoadSmart generation. It had to fit the needs of commuters, long-distance tourers and riders using their bikes for a Sunday morning blast. The design process was shaped by Dunlop’s research. Riders wanted a tyre that could deliver a perfect balance of outstanding dry performance and exceptional wet grip, neutral and stable handling and deliver consistent performance even after several thousand kilometres. From that brief, RoadSmart IV was born.

Wide range and two distinct specifications
The Dunlop RoadSmart IV has been developed to fit 17 of the top 20 selling motorcycles in Europe. From on-road users of adventure bikes such as the BMW R1250GS, crossovers like the Yamaha Tracer, roadsters such as the Yamaha MT or Kawasaki Z ranges or larger touring bikes, Dunlop’s development team focused on creating an incredibly versatile tyre.

In the most popular sizes (120/70ZR17 front; 180/55ZR17 and 190/55ZR17 rear) Dunlop has developed two distinct versions of the RoadSmart IV. The SP variant is optimised for lighter and sportier road machines, whereas the GT variant is tuned to bring greater handling prowess to larger touring bikes.

Technologies to take sport touring to the next level

RoadSmart IV features a package of Dunlop patented technologies, including innovations such as JointLess Belt and JointLess Tread that were developed in the motorsport world, where Dunlop is the most successful tyre brand in Isle of Man TT history, a multiple championship winner in the FIM Endurance World Championship and the exclusive tyre supplier to the Moto2 and Moto3 Grand Prix World Championships.

The features include:

  • Dynamic Front Formula: An intricately balanced combination of profile design, advanced materials and construction to give light and confident handling.
  • MultiTread: Proven on the racetracks, developed for the road. The rear tyre has different compounds to give the perfect balance of durability and grip.
  • Carcass Tension Control System: Different tension zones in the tyre casing optimise handling and maximise the footprint.
  • JointLess Belt: Dunlop’s latest evolution of its race-winning JLB construction gives stability and precise feedback.
  • JointLess Tread: A more precise way of positioning the tread during manufacture boosts durability and consistency.
  • HiSilica: Cold or wet journeys are less of a worry with a more flexible compound at low temperatures.
  • Rayon Ply Casing: Using Rayon improves mileage and allows a rapid warm-up.

Just Ride philosophy
Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Europe: “Our research told us that road riders wanted outstanding wet grip, good mileage and confidence-inspiring handling. By bringing together a range of technologies, we’ve created a tyre that can cater for the demands of an incredibly diverse sector of riders and machines. Dunlop has a Just Ride philosophy of providing riders with unparalleled grip and protection, allowing them to have the confidence to focus on the joy of riding. By applying this mindset, we’ve created a new level of tyre in RoadSmart IV. It is a sport-touring tyre that goes well beyond the sport-touring segment.”

The top tier of a vast range
The Dunlop RoadSmart IV will sit above the test-winning RoadSmart III in Dunlop’s range. That tyre has won awards including a ‘Recommended’ rating1 by UK magazine RIDE and a top mileage result from Germany’s Motorrad Test Center2. These test results underlined Dunlop’s ‘stronger for longer’ mileage and durability focus that continues with RoadSmart IV.

With a 21-size and 24 SKU range, the RoadSmart IV brings Dunlop’s total range of RoadSmart sport-touring tyres to over 40 sizes, covering more than 700 models and 97% of the sport-touring radial tyre segment.

Hypersport performance for all: Dunlop launches Qualifier CORE

Dunlop has launched the latest member in its hypersport tyre family, Qualifier CORE, to deliver superb but affordable performance for riders of a wide range of entry-level and mid-range sports bikes.

Featuring the latest Dunlop technology, Qualifier CORE delivers Dunlop’s renowned hypersport abilities at an affordable price, combining performance with value for riders of entry-level and mid-range nakeds, mid-size roadsters and sports bikes, sport touring models, and previous-generation sports bikes.

Key Dunlop technologies in Qualifier CORE include Dynamic Front Formula, Carcass Tension Control System and Jointless Belt to ensure excellent handling and stability, while innovations such as its silica-enhanced compound improve grip on wet surfaces and in lower temperatures.

The familiar tread pattern is inspired by the first generation of Dunlop Sportmax SportSmart, and it works with the key technologies to give balanced tread stiffness, an optimised footprint and even wear. Its revised groove angles and positioning also deliver much improved wet weather performance compared to Qualifier CORE’s predecessor, Qualifier II. Through Dunlop’s Heat Control Technology, different cap (outer) and base (lower) compounds are combined to ensure predictable performance as the tyre wears throughout its life, thus delivering the rider further value.

Qualifier CORE sits within Dunlop’s hypersport family, which also includes the premium SportSmart TT and SportSmart Mk3 tyres. Both feature a number of innovations to supply impressive performance for riders of mid-range and premium sports bikes.

Qualifier CORE was initially released in three popular sizes in January 2022: 120/70ZR17 (front), 160/60ZR17 (rear) and 180/55ZR17 (rear). In Q4 2022, a further front size (120/60ZR17) and three new rear sizes (190/50ZR17, 190/55ZR17 and 200/50ZR17) will be released.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Europe: “Just like the other members of Dunlop’s family of hypersport tyres, Qualifier CORE gives dynamic handling and excellent feedback so riders can extract the exhilarating performance of their bike, whether it’s a naked, a sports bike, a sports tourer or a roadster. We have developed Qualifier CORE with the philosophy of ‘affordable performance’, to distill the properties of our class-leading hypersport tyres SportSmart TT and SportSmart Mk3 into an affordable package that offers a great solution for bikers on a budget.”

Dunlop develops GT503 tyre for the new Harley-Davidson Sportster S

The new Harley-Davidson Sportster S is one of the most anticipated new motorcycle launches of 2021. It’s one of the most powerful models in the Harley-Davidson range and Dunlop was tasked with developing an advanced new tyre designed specifically for its needs. The Dunlop GT503 features a new tyre construction and compound to provide great performance for riders, while the aggressive look of the tread pattern matches the dynamic appearance of the Sportster S.

The new GT503 provides its riders with many advanced features. The radial construction features a Steel Jointless Belt (JLB) technology, which delivers more responsive and consistent handling while also providing a compliant ride. The tread pattern on GT503 has been developed to maximise the contact patch and provide Sportster S riders with high levels of dry grip, whereas the long tread grooves enhance riding confidence on wet surfaces. With the newly developed compound, GT503 provides not only excellent grip but also offers high mileage potential.

The tyre features the Harley-Davidson logo on the sidewall emphasising the bespoke design and the strong partnership between the two brands. Luca Davide Andreoni, Dunlop Marketing Manager Europe, said: “We are proud that Harley-Davidson has chosen Dunlop for the Sportster S. It is exactly 40 years since Dunlop was asked to develop specific tyres for the original Sportster. Since then, Dunlop has supplied over 10 million original equipment tyres to Harley-Davidson, highlighting the close partnership. With the Dunlop GT503 Dunlop continues that relationship in developing innovative tyres to meet the demanding requirements of the manufacturer and their customers.”

GT503 will be available in front: 160/70R17 and rear: 180/70R16 sizes. The wide front tyre size provides the custom bike look but has been tuned by Dunlop’s experts to deliver the light handling expected of sports bikes.

Peter Hickman forges closer partnership with Dunlop

Five-time Isle of Man TT winner Peter Hickman has announced a deeper relationship with Dunlop Motorcycle Europe  that will include an Official Brand Ambassador role, adding to his duties as a Dunlop test tyre rider.

The 34-year old Englishman chose Dunlop tyres to help him achieve success at the Isle of Man TT and other challenging road races such as the Macau and Ulster Grand Prix. He won his first TT in 2018, setting an all time lap record of 135.452 mph (217.989 km/h) on the final lap on his BMW S 1000 RR.

The following year, he stamped his name in the Ulster Grand Prix record books, establishing the Northern Ireland road circuit as even faster than the Manx lap with a stunning 136.415 mph (219.539 km/h) average, with peak speeds well over 200 mph (322 km/h).

The pandemic has resulted in the cancellation of the key road races in both 2020 and 2021, but Hickman has been able to stay sharp in his role as official Dunlop tyre tester. Testing Dunlop’s latest development tyres for road and track at venues such as the brand’s proving grounds in Mireval, France, means that Hickman has been able to have a direct input into the future generations of Dunlop hypersport tyres.

The new partnership involves Hickman becoming an Official Dunlop Brand Ambassador, giving Dunlop customers an opportunity to meet him at post-lockdown events. Dunlop Motorcycle Europe’s social media channels will also feature thrilling and exclusive content from the record-breaking racer. Fans will be able to see his content by following @DunlopMoto on Facebook and Instagram.

Hickman has a family history with Dunlop, explaining: “My dad used to race in the 1970s and was also a Dunlop test rider. I grew up around the Dunlop team and it’s appropriate that my best results have been achieved on their tyres. In road racing, the speed, precision and variable conditions mean I need to put faith in products you can trust at the limit. That’s why I’m proud to work with Dunlop.”

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe, said: “Peter has enjoyed success on a range of different bike models and that vast experience is valuable to Dunlop when developing tyres for racing, track day and for road-going hypersport bikes. We have exciting plans to develop engaging social media content together. This will bring racing fans even closer to the action.”

Dunlop off-road tyres gain new ratings to increase versatility

Two of Dunlop’s highly durable off-road tyres have been updated with new designations that are set to provide substantial benefits to leisure riders and hardcore enduro enthusiasts alike.

The Dunlop D952, a tyre designed for recreational off-road use, has received ECE R75 certification. This means it can be used legally on the road as well as on tracks, saving riders the expense and resources associated with transporting specialist equipment.

The new categorisation has been granted to four of the six sizes within the D952 range and is available from April 2021.

The road-legal specifications of this hardy tyre are 110/90-18 61M, 110/90-19 62M, 120/90-18 65M and 80/100-21 51M.

Designed to work across a wide variety of terrain, the D952 is based on a high-durability construction that promotes long wear and supreme traction. Its pattern is derived from the popular D752, while the addition of road legality further highlights its status as a perfect tyre for off-road leisure use.

Another significant development within Dunlop’s extensive off-road range is the application of M+S (mud and snow) marking to all three sizes of the D908 RR enduro tyre.

This means that Dunlop’s road-legal dual-sport/desert pattern can now be fitted to bikes with a higher top speed than the tyre’s speed rating, opening it up to an even wider range of machinery.

Recent off-road enduro bikes such as the Honda CRF 1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports, Yamaha Tenere 700 and several KTM models ranging from the 250 EXC all the way up to the 1290 Super Adventure R can be equipped with Dunlop’s D908 RR in its updated M+S form.

The Husqvarna 701 Enduro, BMW G450X and SWM RS650R are also covered, along with the PR7 Adventure 650 from AJP and the EC 450 Raid from GasGas.

The exceptional durability of D908 RR, stemming from its rally-raid competition roots, provides unbeatable performance on the toughest riding surfaces including sand, rocks and hard ground.

Dmitri Talboom, Product Manager Dunlop Motorcycle EMEA: “Off-road is a key arm of Dunlop’s motorcycle division and we are proud to continue developing our products in this field to meet the needs of the modern rider. The ECE R75 certification for D952 is a game-changer for enthusiasts who can now ride to their favourite tracks and get going right away without changing tyres. Furthermore, the M+S marking for D908 RR is important for introducing a new range of machinery to this pattern’s rally-raid attributes.”

Dunlop extends Mutant range to fit more than 140 further bike models

Dunlop has expanded its Mutant range with the introduction of two new rear sizes, enabling more than 140 models to use the world’s first crossover tyre and its range of smart technologies.

Mutant has been made available in the 150/60ZR17 and 160/60ZR17 sizes. Both cover a comprehensive range of bikes covering the naked, roadster and crossover sectors.

The large group, which includes sportier models as well as entry-level machines, can now be equipped with Dunlop’s innovative Mutant crossover pattern which provides exceptional wet grip and safety in all riding conditions throughout the year.

The narrower rear tyre size – 150/60ZR17 – can fit to an impressive set of more than 60 bike models including the KTM RC390 and Kawasaki Z400. Aprilia, BMW, Honda and SWM are also among the manufacturers with machines that suit this particular Mutant specification, opening up Mutant’s all-weather performance to a range of entry-level sports bikes.

The wider 160/60ZR17 offering fits to more than 70 bikes containing a higher engine capacity such as the Honda CBR 500R, Triumph Bonneville Speed Twin and 2020’s Kawasaki Ninja 650 and Z650, as well as the Versys 650. Husqvarna’s Vitpilen and Svartpilen 701s and the 2019-spec KTM 690 SMCR are also freshly Mutant-compatible.

Aprilia, Benelli, CF Moto, Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Voge and 20 other OEM’s all produce bikes that can be equipped with both new sizes.

The Mutant range brings together several Dunlop technologies to create a tyre that’s as versatile as the bikes it’s designed for.

MultiTread (MT) technology fortifies side grip when cornering, while the front section contours designed using the Dynamic Front Formula (DFF) enhance stability and rider feedback. Both technologies are also found in Dunlop’s high-performance road products, highlighting the sports handling attributes of the Mutant.

Furthermore, Rayon Ply Casing in the tyre compound gives a short warm-up time and strengthened durability. Mutant is suited to wet and cold conditions thanks to the use of High Surface Area (HSA) silica and 4 Season technology.

These advanced features combine to form a crossover tyre that thrives in all settings, all year round.

Dmitri Talboom, Product Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle EMEA: “Introducing two new rear tyre sizes for the pioneering Mutant crossover is an important step for Dunlop. Our engineers have dedicated many of our spearhead technologies to this product so that riders can safely conquer all conditions and enjoy exceptional durability. We are pleased to have extended Mutant’s reach to more than 130 further bike models from 26 manufacturers, giving even more riders the option to enjoy its supreme crossover versatility wherever they ride.”

Dunlop to continue as sole Moto2™ and Moto3™ tyre supplier until 2023

Dunlop is pleased to announce a three-year contract extension with Dorna Sports that will see the FIM Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships continue racing on Dunlop tyres until at least the end of the 2023 season. Dunlop has been a long-standing partner of the MotoGP™ paddock since the World Championship’s inception in 1949.

As the most successful tyre company in the history of the 250cc and 125cc categories, having won 17 titles in 250cc, Dunlop became the exclusive tyre supplier of Moto2™ and Moto3™ when the new classes were founded to replace the 250cc and 125cc classes. Since then, Dunlop has supplied every bike in every season of the intermediate and lightweight classes.

Dunlop will continue to supply both Moto2™ and Moto3™ for at least another three years. Dunlop’s top technology goes into creating the ultimate race tyres designed specifically for the unique Moto2™ and Moto3™ bikes, which have seen a notable lap time improvement through tyre developments and adaptation to new technical innovations. These tyres are raced in all corners of the world through an intense schedule that visits some of the most exciting race tracks on the planet.

The race tyres used by Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders are heavily linked to Dunlop tyres that bikers around the world can fit to their own machines. Dunlop products are all developed and manufactured by the same team as the Moto2™ and Moto3™ race tyres. This true ‘race to road’ link gives riders a wide choice of tyres to suit their style and usage – all with technology derived from the top levels of motorsport. True examples of this are the race-derived KR and D213 GP PRO designs, as well as track day tyres such as GP Racer D212 and more road-orientated hypersport designs like SportSmart Mk3 and TT.

Dunlop also supports the star riders of tomorrow, supplying tyres to championships such as the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup, Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, Honda British Talent Cup and Northern Talent Cup, all as part of the Road to MotoGP initiative.

Ben Hoge, General Manager Motorcycle Europe, Goodyear: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Dorna Sports to remain the exclusive tyre supplier to the Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships for at least another three years. Both series are integral to Dunlop Motorsport’s activities and allow us to develop technology for our expanding range of road and track tyres. Dorna Sports has an excellent platform for finding and supporting the star riders of tomorrow and we’re excited to remain a part of it.”

Pau Serracanta, Managing Director, Dorna Sports: “We are delighted to announce that Dunlop will remain the tyre supplier for the Moto2 and Moto3 classes, extending our partnership until 2023. Dunlop have been a cornerstone of the incredible success of Moto2 and Moto3 since each began, and the results speak for themselves as we continue to see spectacular racing every weekend. I look forward to more history being made together over at least the next three years.”

Dunlop launch the Geomax Enduro EN91

Fresh from Colton Haaker winning the World SuperEnduro championship on their Geomax tyres, Dunlop has announced technical details of its latest generation of enduro tyre. The Dunlop Geomax Enduro EN91 builds on the knowledge gained at world championship level to deliver incredibly versatile performance for a wide range of off-road riders.

Enduro racing is characterised by long-distance time trials. The distance covered means a wide variety of terrain will be encountered, so the versatility of the tyre is crucial for success. The Geomax EN91 brings together Dunlop’s vast experience into a package that offers the highest levels of performance and durability, whether for long-distance leisure rides or professional level competition. The EN91 is also road-legal, adding to its wide repertoire.

Innovative tread design, new compound and construction

Replacing the well-proven Dunlop Geomax Enduro D909, the EN91 features a new tread pattern designed to optimise traction in sand and mud. The front tyre features an ingenious shoulder pattern for more nimble handling, reducing rider fatigue. It uses Hex Shape Blocks which have additional edges. This means more grip is generated at varying angles. Tilt Crown Block technology was developed for the rear tyre to help provide higher grip on hard terrain, such as rocks. The tilted blocks improve terrain bite, aid directional stability and increase traction by forcing rocks and dirt to gather around the centre of the crown blocks.

Durability is important for long-distance trials. Dunlop has developed a new compound with increased shearing resistance. However, this durability doesn’t compromise performance. By using a high-performance compound with a race-winning pedigree, Dunlop has also been able to significantly improve the rebound properties of the tyre. This helps maximise grip on rocky terrain. Dunlop’s Casing Tension Control System has been incorporated into the construction design. This gives greater compliance on bumps and improves the feedback to the rider.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Europe stated: “We’ve already had feedback from top riders and teams that the EN91 gives them enhanced performance over a very wide range of terrain. It proves that our objective of widening the versatility of the tyre has been achieved. From soft mud to hard rocks, EN91 has the ground covered.”

The Dunlop Geomax Enduro EN91 complements the Geomax Enduro Soft D907F which is designed for the softest conditions such as sand and wet mud. Available in 90/90-21 Front and 120/90-18 or 140/80-18 rear, the EN91 goes on sale this month across Europe.
