Half the Size, Twice The Fun; Minibike SX at the Dirt Bike Show
Just a few weeks away now and the 2014 edition of the International Dirt Bike Show is gearing up to be something of a giant cracker, with all the major motocross and enduro manufacturers signed up and the majority of the trials brands on board too.
The latest Show development is the inclusion of a stand-alone MiniBike showdown, with the organiser MiniBike Champs of the increasingly popular British MiniBike Championship taking control of the event and promising to put on a fast and furious set of short races, catering for six different action-packed classes.
MCF-affiliated, MiniBike Champs have been running for three full race seasons and currently boasts a membership of around the 400 mark, with many riders regularly travelling from Europe. Such is the popularity of the events, that they’re usually oversubscribed within hours of entries going live. Entries for the Dirt Bike Show MiniBike SX Championship are limited to 80 riders per day, with the split seeing ten riders competing in each of the eight-lap Youth 125cc, Pro 88cc, StockMod and Vets races, and 20 per Clubman and Pro group.
Thursday and Friday will serve as practice days, with demonstration races on Friday. Qualifying heats will kick off at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday, with racing from 1.00pm. A trophy presentation to the top three per class will take place after the final race with individual results each day.
Newly-crowned MiniBike Pro-class champion, Dutchman Frank Van Homoet, is expected to take part in the event, together with top level youth riders. With plans for a far bigger track than the 2013 event, which will curve through the middle of Stoneleigh’s hall five, the organiser is busily securing the tons of earth required to lay out a circuit that will be both challenging for the riders and exciting for the spectators.
Each rider/bike will be equipped with transponders synchronised with easy-to-view live timing screens to make it easier for onlookers to keep abreast of the race positions as riders battle it out and continuously swap places. A vibrant trade area selling mini bike goods and a paddock will be built adjacent to the track.
In short, Show visitors can expect to see plenty of packed races with top-level riders, live timing screens, a new and bigger minibike supercross indoor track layout, better spectator viewing and a trade area selling mini bike goods.
