Iconic Auctioneers Offers A Slice Of Tt History With Two Fabulous Racing-provenance Manx NortonsIconic Auctioneers will feature two notable racing Manx Nortons among the line up for its Motorcycle Summer Sale at Shuttleworth on Sunday, 20 July.

The Norton Manx broke the mould when it was introduced and became one of the most successful race bikes ever.

Highlighting the sale is a historically important 1957 Norton Manx 350cc, raced to numerous victories by renowned rider Bob McIntyre. Purchased new by McIntyre’s sponsor Joe Potts, it achieved success at circuits including Scarborough, Brands Hatch, NW200, and Silverstone during 1957 and 1958. Recently restored in 2024 by its current owner, a TT race team owner, it maintains original elements such as the magnesium factory gearbox, rebuilt by specialist Andy Savage. Accompanied by a detailed provenance, it is ready for display or parade.Iconic Auctioneers Offers A Slice Of Tt History With Two Fabulous Racing-provenance Manx Nortons

Also of significant interest is the 1961 Norton Model 30 Manx 499cc, built by respected tuner Ray Petty for Graham Sharp, who raced it in the 1970 Isle of Man TT Senior race, finishing 29th. Subsequently ridden by Dave Bevan in the 1970-1972 Manx Grand Prix, it remains in largely original condition, accompanied by period photographs, TT programmes, and correspondence from Ray Petty. Authenticated by Manx expert Andy Savage, it is both a collectible and usable classic.

The sale also includes a matching-numbers 1950 Vincent Series C Black Shadow 998cc, owned by the vendor since 1963. Bought when he was aged 17, the Vincent has been the vendor’s pride and joy for 62 years, but now as he approaches his 80th year he feels it is time for it to find a new owner. One of the fastest motorcycles of its time, this Black Shadow is presented in good original condition with period upgrades, a comprehensive history, and verification from the Vincent Owners Club.

Our summer sale offers an incredible selection with an amazing 30% being offered with no reserve.”

Iconic Auctioneers Offers A Slice Of Tt History With Two Fabulous Racing-provenance Manx NortonsThe auction catalogue also includes Iconic Auctioneers’ oldest-ever offering, an 1898 La Française Tricycle with a rare France engine, and a unique, never-ridden, crated 2005 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, representing an unusual opportunity to purchase an essentially new, 20-year-old motorcycle.
