Retrovolution begins with 2022 Kawasaki Z650RS

Kawasaki will start a Retrovolution in 2022 with the introduction of the new Z650RS. Augmenting its already hugely popular retro sport line, the Z650RS will open the mid-capacity class to a wide range of riders. Recognised as being at the forefront of the rapidly expanding retro sport scene, Kawasaki has the unique advantage of close to fifty years of Z heritage and this has been brought to bear on the design of the new 2022 machine.

Targeted at younger riders and those in the early stages of their riding career, the Z650RS is predicted to also appeal to those who fondly recall the launch of the iconic “son of Z1” Z650-B1 in 1977. The delicate balance of old and new, retro and current has been expertly achieved by the Kawasaki design team with clever Z references abounding.

At the heart of the new machine is an updated version of Kawasaki’s venerable 649 cm3 water-cooled, parallel twin engine used in both the current Z650 and Ninja 650 models. With a justifiable reputation for durability and performance, the assist and slipper clutch equipped engine unit has also formed the basis of machines raced to success at the gruelling Isle of Man TT races.  Tuned in the case of the Z650RS for low and mid rev response, plus characteristic invigorating high rev performance, the engine is rated at 68 PS  (50.2 kW) and will also be available from Kawasaki dealers with a 35kw power down kit fitted creating an A2 compliant machine.

In terms of the chassis, the frame is a tubular trellis type construction providing both lightness and agile response to aid reassuring handling capabilities. Its narrow aspect also allows riders to easily reach the ground at a standstill and manoeuvre the bike on the move with equal ease. The seat height for European models will be 820mm with a low seat accessory option at 800mm.

Focusing on suspension, the front duties are undertaken by ø41mm conventional forks with Kawasaki’s highly rated horizontal link rear suspension acting on a shock that is adjustable for pre-load. Braking is care of dual twin piston front calipers acting on retro-style 300mm round disc rotors instead of Kawasaki’s customary petal style rotors while at the rear a single piston brake acts on a 200mm rotor all assisted by Bosch advanced ABS.

Specification is one thing but the styling of the Z650RS is whole new ball game. Evoking myriad memories of the Z650-B1, the paint and pinstripes are a faithful reproduction of the green version of the earlier machine while the iconic “duck tail” cowling behind the seat and faithfully crafted side panels also play homage to the 1977 machine. Even the seat and its stitching pattern reveal a familiar fastidious attention to detail by Kawasaki stylists.

A round, LED headlamp lights the way while the dual analogue style “artillery shell” shaped meters include a digital centre panel for rider information. The adoption of gold multi-spoke type wheels is truly the “icing on the cake” while further embellishment is possible via a range of Kawasaki Genuine Accessories. Without doubt the new Z650RS will ensure that 2022 is the year of “Retrovolution”.

Available from early November, the 2022 Z650RS will be available in three colours & three distinct styles:

– Metallic Spark Black (£7,549)

– Candy Emerald Green (£7,699)

– Metallic Moondust Grey / Ebony (£7,699)

Family fun starts with the 2022 Ninja 125 and Z125

Kawasaki’s iconic Ninja and Z families are updated for the 2022 season and that includes the “entry level” Ninja 125 and Z125 machines. A heritage that stretches back to 1972 for the Z brand and 1984 in respect of Ninja amounts to a combined total of eighty-eight years in 2022, something other manufacturers will envy yet few can match.

Both the Z125 and Ninja 125 display many engineering and styling traits of their larger capacity siblings and represent an ideal “first foot on the ladder” for a wide range of powered two-wheeler enthusiasts including those new to biking focusing on the A1 licence category.

With their tubular trellis type chassis construction similar to Kawasaki’s top of the range Supercharged Ninja and Z machines, the 125cc offerings offer the ideal balance of style, engineering and durability demanded by entry level riders.

The Ninja 125 has bodywork redolent of the Kawasaki Racing Team Ninja machines raced by Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes and comes equipped with a 15PS (11KW) engine with refinement and classic Ninja urge throughout the rev range. Predictable around town and with great low to mid-range flexibility, the rider feels the benefit of Supersport ergonomics (that include a 20mm higher seat as an Ergo-fit accessory option) and a cockpit view that encompasses all-digital instrumentation. Add Uni-Trak rear suspension, ø37 mm telescopic front forks plus dependable ABS brakes and the Ninja 125 becomes a compelling argument within its category.

For Z lovers the news in 2022 is no less exciting as the Z Spirit influences the Sugomi design approach of the smallest in the revered naked class family sharing the same frame technology and engine configuration as its 125cc capacity cousin.

A1 licence friendly, the Z125 is also equipped with the same suspension set up and, likewise, benefits from all-digital meters and advanced ABS braking plus the option of a 25mm lower Ergo-fit accessory seat. Offering the same angular, unapologetic look and feel as other uncompromising members of the Z family, the Z125 provides a great introduction to the world of naked category motorcycling.

Both machines will be available from late January, with 2022 colours and pricing being:

Ninja 125

  • Metallic spark black/metallic flat spark black (Standard – £4,199, Performance – £4,899)
  • Pearl flat stardust white/metallic spark black (Standard – £4,299, Performance – £4,999)
  • Lime green/ebony/pearl blizzard white (Standard – £4,299, Performance – £4,999)

Z125

  • Candy lime green/metallic spark black (Standard – £3,899, Performance – £4,549)
  • Pearl flat stardust white/metallic flat spark black (Standard – £3,999, Performance – £4,649)
  • Metallic flat spark black (Standard – £3,999, Performance – £4,649)

Ninja 650 moves boldly into 2022 season

Now firmly established as an adaptable and inspirational riding partner in the mid-capacity Sports segment, the Ninja 650 is ready to move boldly into 2022 with three colour options for the upcoming season.

Rightfully popular with riders seeking an easy to live with sports, light tour or even commuting machine, the Ninja 650 is highly adaptable to these diverse roles while excelling in each. Thanks to an engine platform which has been gradually updated and refined over a number of years, the 2022 Ninja 650 maintains its A2 licence compliance and retains its unique character while passing the requirements of Euro5 legislation.

Rated at 68 PS (50.2 kW), the water-cooled, assist and slipper clutch equipped parallel twin engine at the very heart of the Ninja 650 possesses an intriguing character being responsive and capable or answering the needs for town and city based urban commuting whilst having impressive reserves of characterful mid to high rev performance when the open road beckons.

Chassis and styling wise, the sharp Superbike inspired look of the Ninja 650 is backed up by trellis type chassis similar to some of Kawasaki’s most prestigious models married to 41 mm front forks and a horizontal back link rear suspension system evocative of the technology used on the factory Ninja machines raced in WorldSBK.

And speaking of technology, 2022 riders will enjoy the twin LED headlights plus an all-digital TFT colour meter which has justifiably won so many plaudits from the media and current owners alike. Additionally, via a Bluetooth connection, the meter can be linked to the riders’ Smartphone using the Rideology app developed exclusively for Kawasaki machines taking the ownership experience to the next level.

Z900 Powers Into 2022 Season

One of Kawasaki’s most outstanding success stories of the recent past, the Z900 is set to power its way into 2022 and earn a place in the hearts of yet more naked bike category fans.

A hit since the day of its introduction, the Z900 has gradually evolved to meet the needs of discerning riders but never at the cost of the core, elemental riding experience that only a Kawasaki Z can deliver.

The Z900 now boasts a number of rider aids and additional features that enhance the overall riding and ownership experience. From a rider view perspective, the Z900 comes equipped with a colour TFT meter display that has earned high praise for its clarity. Plus integrated into the meter is a Bluetooth chip allowing he rider to synch their smart phone with their motorcycle using the useful Rideology App from Kawasaki that relates a variety of machine and status aspects to the screen of the riders’ phone.

Also aiding the rider, the Z900 has handlebar switch selectable power modes offering a choice of Full Power or Low Power allowing riders to set the power delivery to suit preference and conditions.

KTRC, Kawasaki’s advanced traction control system, is also standard providing both enhanced sport riding performance and the peace of mind to negotiate low-traction surfaces with confidence. The three rider selectable modes offer progressively greater levels of intervention to suit the riding situation and rider preference.

And usefully combining the two, the Z900 incorporates selectable Riding Modes as standard linking KTRC and Power Mode to allow riders the facility to set traction control and power delivery to suit a given riding situation. Riders can choose from three settings (Sport, Road, Rain) or a manual setting (Rider).

Benefitting – like all models in the 2022 Z family – from Kawasaki’s unique Sugomi design philosophy creating a balance between visual styling and under-skin engineering, the Z900 will be available in early November and will come in three colours:

  • Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black (Standard £9,299, Performance Edition £10,199)
  • Pearl Robotic White/Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray (Standard £9,399, Performance Edition £10,299)
  • Candy Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black (Standard £9,399, Performance Edition £10,299)

Kawasaki Z650 energized for 2022 with World Champion seal of approval

Running under the tagline Energize from its launch, the twin-cylinder, water-cooled Z650 is a key mid-capacity model for Kawasaki. In a market that demands performance, an energizing ride and real owner and machine engagement, the Z650 excels.

Appealing to a wide range of potential riders, the Z650 is A2 licence category compliant, inspiring confidence in not just those relatively new to two wheels but even seasoned riders; in fact the Z650 is the machine that six time World Superbike champion, Jonathan Rea, recently chose to ride for his basic training in advance of taking his road motorcycle test.

Equipped as standard with LED lighting and a low emission Euro5 compliant engine, the styling and technical features of the Z650 automatically denote this as a strong member of the iconic Z family. Sugomi design is an equal marriage of styling and engineering manifesting itself in the sharp chin spoiler, muscular radiator shrouds and aggressive angular lines of the machine which also benefits from a narrow profile that inspires rider confidence.

Technically the Z650 utilises a highly praised colour TFT meter panel that not only conveys information clearly but also has an integrated Bluetooth chip allowing riders to pair their motorcycle with their smartphone using Kawasaki’s Rideology App to access an array of machine data and other information.

As rewarding for those climbing the capacity ladder as those that have been riding for many years – and even multiple World Champions – the Z650 will be available in early October in three editions, Standard, Performance and new for 2022, Urban, which comes equipped with a top box. The 2022 Z650 will be available in three colour options:

  • Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black (Standard – £6,949, Urban – £7,169, Performance – £8,449)
  • Candy Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black (Standard – £7,049, Urban – £7,269, Performance – £8,549)
  • Pearl Robotic White/Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray (Standard – £7,049, Urban – £7,269, Performance – £8,549)

Ninja 1000SX Sport Touring story extends into 2022

With few, if any, rivals, the Kawasaki sport touring Ninja 1000SX has been one of the stand-out machines of recent years. Carving itself an enviable niche as a machine that has supersport handling and DNA combined with the comfort and flexibility to tour solo or with passenger, the Ninja 1000SX has won the highest praise winning countless magazine and web site road tests.

Now in its fourth iteration, the Ninja 1000SX has been gradually refined and features a magical mix of features that combine to create a machine with real pedigree. The recent adoption of a sporting four into one exhaust and more angular cowling combine with radial mount mono-bloc front brake calipers, a radial mount master cylinder and horizontal back-link suspension plus up/down quick shifter to display authentic Ninja credentials.

And from a touring perspective, clever touches abound. In terms of luggage capacity, the combined total capacity of the accessory panniers is an impressive 56l plus a clean mount pannier system means that the supersport style of the machine is not marred by an ugly framework when the panniers are removed. Seat comfort has also recently been upgraded along with greater wind protection from a screen offering a wide range of adjustment to fine tune the ride.

In terms of electronic rider aids, the assistance is myriad thanks to the adoption of an IMU that, along with the ECU, measures inertia in six axis plus electronic cruise control as standard. Alongside this, selectable integrated riding modes and a cornering management function are standard as well as power mode selection, KTRC traction control, supersport level ABS and smartphone connectivity between the all-digital TFT colour meter and the riders’ smartphone via Kawasaki’s Rideology App.

Default choice for a legion of riders who want their machine to multi-task and excel at whatever it is asked to do, the 2022 Ninja 1000SX will deliver a truly unique combination of competencies.
