KTM 2018: London Calling

See, sit and selfie on the 2018 KTM Street range at the MCN London Motorcycle Show

Doors open to the MCN London Motorcycle Show from February 16-18 and KTM will be there with a large display of its 2018 range – including the all-new KTM 790 DUKE – along with a selection of KTM Factory Racing machines.
The annual show, held at ExCeL in the East London Docklands area, marks the eve of the ‘traditional’ Street riding season, making it the perfect opportunity to get up close and behind the bars of the exciting 2018 KTM range.
Due to arrive at UK dealers in late March, the completely new KTM 790 DUKE (£8,499) is set to inject fresh levels of excitement, technology and style into the naked middleweight market. Powered by the new 799cc LC8c parallel twin engine – punching out 105hp and 86nm – the new Duke is also armed with the most comprehensive array of electronic rider systems, including cornering ABS, lean-angle sensitive Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) along with four different ride modes; a Quickshifter+ system, Launch Control and KTM MY RIDE smart phone connectivity.
The infamous 1290 SUPER DUKE R (£14,299) received a massive overhaul last year and The Beast 2.0 is arguably the benchmark for performance and electronics systems in the super naked class. With street presence like no other, its distinctive and aggressive appearance is matched by relentless power – incredibly addictive for those who are Beast Enough…
Taking The Beast further and faster is the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT (£15,999). Redefining the sports tourer class, this bike masters the seemingly impossible split between passionate fun riding, comfortable long distance travelling and breath-taking track day use. For 2018, it gets two new colours and graphics options.
Starting from £11,599 to £14,899, the four-strong KTM Adventure range presents riders with a choice of high-performance, heart-racing machines capable of creating unforgettable memories wherever and however the road leads. The 1090 ADVENTURE, 1090 ADVENTURE R, 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R and 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S are always ready and backed up with a huge array of official PowerParts to be tailored to individual needs.
Boasting new graphics for 2018, the 690 DUKE (£7,999) is the world’s most powerful single-cylinder bike with a revised motor to offer improved levels of power and torque over a larger powerband delivered with smoothness usually reserved for multi-cylinders. Adding to its class-leading low weight and low running costs, this Duke is equally at home commuting through town as it is slaying corners on favourite roads or tracks.
For young, new or returning riders looking for machines with exhilarating performance, exciting looks and high-end components matched to lightweight and confidence-building chassis, look no further than the freshly revised KTM 125 DUKE (£4,199) and 390 DUKE (£4,699). Made to the same demanding READY TO RACE commitment as their bigger brothers, these ‘mini beasts’ more than earn the right to be dubbed a DUKE.
For the racers at heart, the supersports KTM RC 125 (£4,399) and RC 390 (£5,199) combine class-leading levels of performance and components with everyday comfort. READY TO RACE from every traffic light, these fully-faired fighters are equally at home commuting or carving up corners.
The FREERIDE 250 F (£6,599) is a completely new model, with the ability to explore demanding and unknown off-road terrain, while performing with low noise levels and a confidence-inspiring power delivery combined with a comfortable, low seat height and weighing just 99kg. This bike is the ultimate all-rounder for fun trails, Trials and Enduro.
The powerful and agile electric KTM FREERIDE E-XC is better than ever. Powered by a state-of-the-art electric motor with a peak of 18 kW fitted into a re-designed composite frame, updated WP Suspension and a 50% increased KTM PowerPack that now provides one and a half hours of riding time.
KTM Factory Racing machines of MXGP champion Antonio Cairoli, the Dakar-winning 450 Rally of Matthias Walkner, Pol Espargaro’s MotoGP RC 16 and Johnny Walker’s 300 EXC Extreme Enduro slayer, will be on the main KTM stand alongside Croydon-based KTM dealer, InMoto, operating a retail area selling clothing and accessory items from the latest PowerWear range.
Billed as ‘the biggest and best motorcycle show in the capital’, the London Motorcycle Show also offers visitors a huge array of other attractions and live action entertainment for a great day out.

KTM Unveils New FREERIDE E-XC and Announces Future E-Mobility Plans

KTM unveiled its second-generation FREERIDE E-XC model year 2018 at the Red Bull Hangar-7 in Salzburg, Austria and presented its future plan for the e-mobility segment.

The powerful and agile KTM FREERIDE E-XC is now even better. Powered by a state-of-the-art electric motor with a peak of 18 kW fitted into a re-designed composite frame that provides even better stability, this e-machine now benefits from a 50 % capacity increase in its new KTM PowerPack, which offers up to one and a half hours of riding time with just one battery charge. The new KTM FREERIDE E-XC now also utilises energy recuperation when coasting or braking for an additional range boost, and the battery has a quick charging time, while also providing 70% of its initial capacity after 700 charge cycles. In addition, this lightweight bike boasts a new WP Xplor 43 upside-down fork system with enhanced sensitivity, and a new WP PDS Xplor shock absorber with improved progression and adjustment options.

The KTM FREERIDE E-XC features three riding modes: Economy, Enduro and Cross. Its easy operation, with no clutch or gear shift lever, and a confidence inspiring low seat height of just over 900 mm, combined with its extreme cross-country agility, ensures that this is the ultimate electrically powered machine for beginners to experienced level riders. Stylish new bodywork with racy graphics, trim and colors, a new dashboard and re-positioned ignition lock provide further benefits over the previous model. Complying with A1 licence requirements and producing zero local emissions with minimal noise pollution, the possibilities are endless with the ultra-playful KTM FREERIDE E-XC.

Not only does the KTM FREERIDE E-XC offer major environmental advantages, the cost of running the bike is vastly reduced over an equivalent combustion motorcycle. To fully charge the KTM PowerPack for the KTM FREERIDE E-XC the cost is less than EUR0.8 (20 Cent/kW x 3,9 kW) and when compared to the KTM FREERIDE 250 F, for 1.5 hours of riding the cost in fuel would be approximately four or five times more.

This latest e-powered machine is part of KTM’s long-term commitment to e-mobility, which began over 10 years ago in KTM’s research and development department in Mattighofen, Austria. The Austrian brand plans a range of machines for the future including e-mini, and an e-scooter, as well as maximising its partnership with PEXCO with a new possibility to produce crossover products in the bicycle sector. The vision is clear, and by 2025 KTM will increase emphasis on machines from 250 watt to 11kWh due to market suitability and efficiency.

Stefan Pierer (KTM CEO): “We are proud to present the new KTM FREERIDE E-XC, which marks the next step in development of e-mobility within KTM and is a continuation of our commitment to this segment. We know that e-mobility will change the landscape of travel in the future, and our vision is very clear. Looking ahead to 2025 we expect to have a wider range of models available with a focus in the commuting arena. We also plan crossover machines with our collaboration with PEXCO, as well as using our e-mobility expertise in other applications.”

The new KTM FREERIDE E-XC will arrive in dealers in certain markets at the beginning of next year, and for more information please visit www.ktmfreeride-e.com

See and Feel the KTM 2015 Street Range at London Excel in February

KTM will be showcasing the full 2015 Street range at the MCN London Motorcycle Show at ExCeL, Docklands, on February 13-15, along with having exciting demonstrations of its electric Freeride machines.

The Austrian manufacturer has released 12 new street bikes to its range since 2011, beginning with the 125 Duke, and now boasts a 14-strong road line-up with an eclectic mix of machines in naked, supersport or travel enduro styles, from 125cc to 1301cc. Brand new for 2015 from Europe’s biggest motorcycle manufacturer is the headline-grabbing 1290 Super Adventure and 1050 Adventure.

The 1290 Super Adventure redefines the standard for luxury touring on a motorcycle. Boasting features including 160hp, 140Nm, semi-active suspension, cornering lights, cruise control, optional hill hold control, this bike embodies superlative technology in every respect as far as its power, comfort and equipment goes – but of course with an explicitly dynamic touch.

The KTM 1050 Adventure is for riders who demand a travel enduro that delivers pure riding enjoyment in comfort over long distances with a chassis that can exploit the twisty routes or simply out manoeuvre traffic when escaping. Employing neither excessive equipment or performance; the 1050’s V-twin engine still matches the 1190 Adventure for power and torque up to its 95hp and can be electronically mapped to be A2 licence compliant.

Launched in Autumn 2014, the supersport RC range is also making a big impression on the UK’s roads. With Grand Prix-inspired styling, high-level specification components and innovative features, the RC 125 is suitable for riders aged 17 and above and is currently available with a free PowerParts promotion, encompassing an Akrapovič exhaust (rrp £464.32) and Neon graphics kit (rrp £93.95).

With 44hp, the RC 390 is a perfect combination of power and performance in a lightweight chassis. Ideal for experienced riders or those with an A2 licence. This exciting bike is also the basis for the Santander Consumer Finance KTM British Junior Cup, held within the British Superbike Championship, for riders aged 13-18.

The Duke range is more versatile than ever, packing naked attitude and tarmac aggression behind the wide bars and punchy single-cylinder engines of the 125, 390, 690 and the track-inspired 690 R variants. The 1290 Super Duke R takes the Duke spirit to insane levels of performance and specification; boasting 180hp, 144 Nm of torque and sophisticated electronic aids to keep the rear tyre gripping and the front wheel on the floor – if you want to.

KTM has also steamrolled into electric propulsion in 2015 with its Freeride E range, including the off-road E-XC and E-SX that will be joined by the road-going and A1 licence-suitable E-SM supermoto. Racers Jamie Whitham and Taylor Mackenzie will be utilising the performance of the E-XC as part of the Dockland-based show’s live action entertainment.

The show opens on February 13 with advance tickets starting from £15. For more information visit www.mcnmotorcycleshow.com
