R&G Set to Return as a Supporting Partner to Motoamerica

After three highly successful seasons as a Supporting Partner to the growing MotoAmerica series, Hampshire-based crash protection specialist R&G is excited to confirm it will be returning for 2023.

The 2022 MotoAmerica series proved one of the most nail-biting motorcycling championships of the year, with just one point separating eventual champion Jake Gagne and rival Danilo Petrucci going into the final round. Since its launch in 2014, the high-octane series has continued to go from strength to strength, with 2023 set to see the return of five-time Champion Cameron Beaubier.

Hampshire-based R&G is proud to be returning as an official Supporting Partner to the series for a fourth consecutive season. The partnership ensures that the R&G brand is prominently promoted to Stateside fans through the series’ messaging, trackside branding and social media.

Alongside supporting the series directly, R&G also supports a number of riders and teams throughout the paddock, most notably the 2022 Supersport Champions Vision Wheel M4 ECstar Suzuki, who field riders across the Superbike and Superstock classes.

R&G Managing Director Simon Hughes said,
“2022 was an incredible season in the MotoAmerica class and to come down to the final race is a testament to the riders and series. We have loved watching the action unfold and are proud to be able to return for a fourth consecutive year. We can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store!

“Having R&G back on board with MotoAmerica is fantastic,” said MotoAmerica Director of Sponsorship, Lance Bryson. “The quality that goes into R&G products is the reason you see motorcycles up and down our paddock using them; so the partnership makes perfect sense. The 2023 MotoAmerica season promises to be our best yet, with seven different race classes and we’re pumped to have R&G be a part of it all again. Now In Its Eighth Season As Official Tire Supplier To MotoAmerica, Dunlop Onboard Through 2025 With New Three-Year Deal.

MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is pleased to announce that Dunlop will remain as the Official Tire Supplier to the championship through 2025 with the series inking a new three-year contract with the high-performance tire manufacturer.

The 2022 season marks Dunlop’s eighth as the spec tire for all six classes of the Auto Parts 4 Less MotoAmerica Championship.

“Dunlop has been a wonderful partner with us since we started MotoAmerica in 2015,” said MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey. “This will be our third three-year agreement with Dunlop and that shows the confidence we have in each other going forward. Dunlop uses our series to develop product that ultimately gets passed down to consumers and the tires they provide for our racers continue to get better. With improvement in grip, feel, and durability, lap times drop, our riders get faster and everyone in the series benefits. We’re looking forward to the coming season of racing and our continued relationship with Dunlop.”

“Racing is very important to Dunlop and racing in the MotoAmerica series has proven to be beneficial to the development of our high-performance tires,” said Dunlop Senior Vice President Mike Buckley. “Our design and service teams are passionate about what they do at MotoAmerica races and ultimately what we learn at the track is passed on to the high-performance tires we make for our customers, many of whom are racing fans. We’ve had a great relationship with MotoAmerica since they took over the series in 2015 and we’re happy to be able to continue that for at least another three years. The 2022 season is already off to a great start, and we’re thrilled to be a big part of it.”

The Auto Parts 4 Less MotoAmerica Championship and the MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike Series just concluded its opening round at Circuit of The Americas with round two slated for April 22-24 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.

Aprilia RS 660 ready for MotoAmerica

With the season opener of MotoAmerica beginning in Road Atlanta April 30, Aprilia, with the recently homologated RS 660, will arrive to the series with over 10 riders registered across the national Twins Cup championship to compete. The middleweight twin-cylinder class with 4-stroke models ranging 600-800cc, continues to be one of the most exciting series, attracting a growing grid of riders across manufacturers.

“With over 28 riders entered for this weekend’s Twins Cup race, it’s exciting to see that the new Aprilia 660 will take to the track with 8 competitors for the new machines’ debut in MotoAmerica,” explains Chuck Aksland, Partner in MotoAmerica, “We’ve followed the progress of the 660 since it was announced and our staff worked hand in hand with Aprilia to ensure that it could compete this season. Not many people have seen the bike on-track and the anticipation certainly brings another level of excitement to the weekend. We truly welcome Aprilia into our paddock and look forward to working with them for seasons to come.”

“We are pleased to see the excitement around this new model, and interest to be a part of Aprilia’s history on the track,” says Mario Di Maria, President and CEO of Piaggio Group Americas, “The RS 660 is a new chapter for Aprilia and our racing history, which we are eager to follow and support as it competes in the US.”

Aprilia Racing is the most advanced technological expression of the Piaggio Group. With 294 Grand Prix races won in Road Racing World Championship, Aprilia holds the record for the most wins of any European manufacturer in the history of maximum motorcycle competition. These are joined by an impressive 54 world titles: 38 in Road Racing World Championship (20 in 125 and 18 in 250), 7 in Superbike (Rider and Manufacturer double win in 2010, 2012 and 2014, manufacturers in 2013) and 9 in Off Road disciplines (7 in Supermoto and 2 in Trial).

From its inception, Aprilia Racing has represented an extraordinary forge for new talent. Astride the bikes from Noale, almost all the riders who have made history in motorcycle racing in recent decades have made their début, raced and won. These include Max Biaggi, Loris Capirossi, Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner, as well as Manuel Poggiali, Marco Simoncelli, Alvaro Bautista.

The twin-cylinder 659cc creates a new and exciting opportunity for riders to compete on an Aprilia, consistently praised for its chassis and engine capabilities over its history.

Among the teams competing in MotoAmerica is Robem Engineering, which has competed in the Twins Cup championship since 2018, is one example of teams which has made the switch to Aprilia RS 660’s for this year. With riders Kaleb DeKeyrel (23 years old, finished 2nd in Twins Cup 2020), Hayden Schultz (23 years old, finished 3rd in Twins Cup 2020), and Toby Khamsouk (18 years old, finished 5th in Twins Cup 2020), riding for Robem, Team Owner, Matthew Spicer explains their decision, “When we saw Aprilia launch their new middleweight, I knew there could be some unique opportunities with the machine, which already makes good power. Knowing the history of the brand, we were happy to confirm expectations of a promising chassis and general geometry. It’s a gamble to switch to a bike that has not yet been raced competitively, but we’re optimistic the RS 660 will quickly evolve to be a top challenger in the championship.”

Internationally, Aprilia Racing has launched a spec-race series in Italy, aimed to grow young riders into champions, called the Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo. As a spec machine with racing in mind, the model has been optimized to deliver 105hp, and trim away weight to 337 pounds with bodywork, forged wheels and race-derived components. The series will begin in May at the Misano circuit and will have a field of riders starting from 15 years old. Similar to that of the MotoAmerica Twins cup, the class is attractive to younger riders, and budget conscious race teams.

A Limited Number Of Fans Allowed For Indy Round

The MotoAmerica Superbikes At The Brickyard Event Set For October 9-11

MotoAmerica has announced that Indianapolis Motor Speedway will welcome a limited number of fans to the Racing Capital of the World for the MotoAmerica Superbikes at the Brickyard round of the 2020 MotoAmerica Series, October 9-11, per approval from the Marion County Public Health Department.

The massive facility will provide a spectator zone in the Turn 1 grandstands of the oval, offering strong sightlines of the road course. Fans will not be permitted into any section of the IMS infield, VIP areas or the MotoAmerica paddock, and all fan activities have been eliminated, including the Steve Nace-promoted flat track that was slated to take place in the IMS infield.

Strict health and safety rules will be in place at the Speedway, including the following: Face coverings must be worn throughout the property at all times; all fans will receive temperature screenings before gate entry; grandstand seats will be marked for distancing; attendees must use pre-assigned gates and remain in their designated zones.

“We’re happy to open our gates to motorcycle racing fans eager to see two-wheeled action at the Racing Capital of the World for the first time in five years,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “Superbikes at the Brickyard will be a fun weekend featuring non-stop action from the top motorcycle road racers in North America.”

IMS has adopted a health-and-safety plan, developed in consultation with state and local health officials, that includes each attendee receiving a mask and a bottle of hand sanitizer upon entering the track.

Six classes of MotoAmerica competition will race on the IMS road course – HONOS Superbike, Supersport, Stock 1000, Twins Cup, Liqui Moly Junior Cup and Heritage Cup.

This will be the first motorcycle race at IMS since 2015, when MotoAmerica supported the MotoGP World Championship during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. Motorcycle racing has a strong heritage at the Brickyard, as the first motorsports ever at the track was a series of seven motorcycle races August 14, 1909 on the 2.5-mile oval. MotoGP raced at IMS from 2008-15.

Tickets are available at IMS.com for the event, which features multiple classes of MotoAmerica motorcycle road racing.

Motorcycle racing fans also will see a host of facility improvements at the Speedway during the event weekend, including more than 30 new LED video boards, refreshed concession stands and restrooms, and 5G wireless connectivity throughout the facility.

MotoAmerica/Vortex Studios To Produce Entertainment Programming

MotoAmerica, the home of the AMA Superbike Series, and multi-media production studio Vortex Studios, which produces entertainment programming, including “Tabloid Wars” (NBC), “Fashion Star” (Bravo) and “ArtPrize (YouTube), have announced their collaboration to produce programming based on MotoAmerica’s events, racers and experience in the motorcycle world.

The new programming will cover all aspects of the motorcycling lifestyle from shows about celebrity motorcyclists to behind-the-scenes stories with current racers, up-and-coming young racers who strive to one day participate in MotoAmerica, the significant others of the men and women who compete in the series, and many other facets of the industry and the MotoAmerica culture.

“MotoAmerica is all about passion, competitiveness, speed and pushing yourself to be the best, said MotoAmerica President and three-time World Champion Wayne Rainey. “We want to showcase the diverse and fascinating world of motorcycling. MotoAmerica is the fastest, most thrilling and competitive two-wheeled sport in the U.S. and our athletes are world-class racers all battling to be the very best they can be. Through Vortex Studios efforts, we hope to bring the experiences of our racers, good and bad, into living rooms across the nation and we know it will make compelling content.”

“This is the next step in the evolution of our brand,” said MotoAmerica CEO Richard Varner. “MotoAmerica has seen incredible growth over the past five years and we are looking to expand our audience to include the casual fans who will discover us through the entertainment side of our world. We look forward to seeing what Vortex can do to showcase MotoAmerica in a different way.”

The two companies will target the release of this new programming to all non-sports platforms, including cable networks such as E! Network, Bravo and Discovery Channel as well as streaming platforms Netflix, Apple tv+, HBO Max and Amazon Prime and video-on-demand platforms YouTube and Facebook.

“Having produced programming for E! We see huge potential to find great stories within MotoAmerica similar to what the NFL, UFC or NBA have done to build their brands beyond core fans.”

Currently MotoAmerica’s sport programming is seen on Fox Sports, NBC Sports Network and via MotoAmerica’s live streaming platform, MotoAmerica Live +.

The 2020 racing season begins on April 3-5 at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
