Pirelli SCORPION Trail III

Pirelli SCORPION Trail IIIPirelli SCORPION Trail III: the perfect union between road sportiness and a spirit of adventure.

The new Pirelli SCORPION Trail III represents the latest generation of adventure-touring tyres and are the sportiest ever on asphalt among the SCORPION family of motorcycle products.

The new Pirelli SCORPION Trail III represents the latest generation of adventure-touring tyres and are the sportiest ever on asphalt among the SCORPION family of motorcycle products.

Designed for modern adventure and crossover motorcycles, which are very versatile and can be used in different contexts, the new SCORPION Trail III is the result of the latest developments, in terms of technologies and materials used, by Pirelli’s Research and Development Department.

The SCORPION name immediately clarifies that it belongs to the range of Pirelli products intended for off-road use, also in two- and four-wheel competitions such as the Enduro World Championship and the Motocross World Championship in which Pirelli has been the undisputed leader for 40 years with 81 world titles won. This is because SCORPION Trail III is a street enduro tyre, therefore a product mainly intended for use on asphalt, but which also allows you to tackle routes on dirt roads.

On asphalt, the SCORPION Trail III tyres are able to offer the motorcyclist very sporty behaviour, thanks to the high levels of grip and optimal handling, excellent stability even at full load and wet performance similar to that of a Sport-Touring tyre.

When you abandon asphalt in favour of dirt roads, the constant alternation of the central and transverse grooves under the footprint provides control and traction.
Finally, another advantage offered by SCORPION Trail III is the notable acoustic comfort (minimizing road noise) which doesn’t detract from road riding pleasure.

These benefits are made possible thanks to the perfect harmony of all the elements that make up the tyre:

Tread Pattern
The tread design of SCORPION Trail III is an evolution of that of its predecessor SCORPION Trail II with the aim of improving stability and riding precision.

To achieve this goal, the winning scheme of the characteristic design of the DIABLO sport range was revisited and integrated in a street enduro product.

The grooves on the central band, which are inspired by the eye-catching and iconic FLASH present in the DIABLO range, allow for wet drainage and lateral riding stability on softer terrain, while providing even wear.

Finally, the integration with robust central grooves for traction and shoulder grooves has been designed to offer good guidance and traction even on dirt roads.

These tricks have allowed SCORPION Trail III to increase the land/sea ratio compared to its predecessor, thus offering a greater presence of rubber in contact with the asphalt and, consequently, an advantage in terms of road performance.

Compounds
SCORPION Trail III offers new compounds, for the radial sizes always 100% silica based for both the front and rear, for excellent performance on both wet and dry surfaces. The rear dual-compound radials use a soft compound on the shoulders and use various plasticising resins that optimise cornering grip. The harder compound in the central tread band is similar to that used for the front tyre and has been designed to offer high stability, wear resistance and mileage.

Structures
The structures of the fronts derive from the supersport experience and enhance ride and grip; in particular the radial sizes boast a construction with a 0-degree steel belt which provides excellent stability even at high speeds.

The highly rigid structures of the rear tyres allow sporty handling in all applications and give high stability in all load conditions.

Profiles
The profiles derive from Pirelli’s experience in Sport Touring tyres with a multi-radius approach that provides stability at high speeds, high mileage, and a sporty feeling with progressive behaviour.

Sizes
The table shows the sizes envisaged for SCORPION Trail III which will be available for sale during the the first half of 2024, except for the front sizes 120/70 with 19″ fitting and rear 170/60 with 17″ fitting which will arrive in the second half.

Metzeler ROADTEC 02: two tyres in one

Metzeler ROADTEC 02: two tyres in one thanks to the tread that adapts to the motorcyclist’s riding style.

The new Metzeler ROADTEC 02 tyre, now available to the public, introduces a new technology that allows you to benefit from the behaviour of two different tyres in a single tyre. The Adaptive Tread Design adapts the geometry of the grooves based on the motorcyclist’s riding style, thus varying the surface in contact with the asphalt and consequently the behaviour of the tyre, from Sport-Touring to Supersport. Almost a new category of tyre, the “Super-Sport Touring”, allows a much wider range of performance depending on the riding style.

When the motorcyclist has a touring riding style, or in wet conditions, the long grooves of the tread pattern favor the evacuation of water and the correct mobility of the tread compound, helping to offer quick warm-up, comfort and grip. In other words, the qualities and behaviour typical of a Sport-Touring tyre.

However, when a sportier riding style is preferred – in dry conditions, greater load transfers and lateral thrusts cause part of the grooves to close, thus increasing the compactness and stability of the tread band. This allows you to make the most of the grip qualities of the compound, improving riding precision and modifying its behaviour, to become close to that of a supersport tyre.

The front and rear tyres have been designed with the same tread pattern to ensure the same adaptive behaviour on both axles.

The tread pattern of the new ROADTEC 02 tyre, compared to its predecessor ROADTEC 01 SE, increases the full/empty land/sea ratio, thus increasing the footprint and making it more uniform as the lean angle varies, so as to guarantee a smoother and more precise ride. Furthermore, a smaller presence of grooves leads to fewer interruptions on the tread band, to the benefit of acoustic comfort (less road noise).

The rear tyres are dual-compound to combine stability at high speeds with grip when leaning also on wet surfaces, the latter also achieved thanks to the new generation of 100% silica-based compounds, both for the front and rear, which optimise the chemical grip on wet roads.

ROADTEC 02 will make its official debut at the MBE Motor Bike Expo, scheduled from 19 to 21 January in Verona, where the new tyre will be among the protagonists of the Metzeler exhibition area set up in booth 19 of pavilion 4.

Metzeler ROADTEC 02 tyres are available in the following sizes:

Michelin introduces three all new motorcycle tyres

By introducing a full new range of motorcycle tyres in 2024, available for riders from January, Michelin will accomplish a major technical evolution.

The first three new products will be unveiled at the EICMA trade show, Milan, Italy from 7 to 12 November. The new tyres equip many of the motorcycles presented and will also be on display in the Michelin space in Hall 22.

With 130 years of history in developing 2-wheel tyres -the first MICHELIN tyre ever made was designed for a bike- and more than 500 wins in the FIM World Championships, Michelin benefits from a vast and unique know-how. Slick tyres, radial tyres, asymmetrical tyres: In the last 50 years, Michelin has always been the driving force behind innovation.

Nowadays, MICHELIN motorcycle tyres are fully recognised by customers and media to deliver the best all-round performance in all riding conditions. MICHELIN is also the first trusted tyre brand by consumers in the majority of countries(5). Over the past years, the MICHELIN Power and MICHELIN Anakee ranges have been homologated by premium manufacturers such as BMW Motorrad, Triumph, KTM and Honda along with many others.

MICHELIN Power 6: the everyday tyre combining fun and sportiness
The MICHELIN Power 6 tyre is aimed at a wide spectrum of sports motorcycle users: for those who are looking for sportiness and pure riding pleasure, this new tyre will be the new MICHELIN reference.

Beyond sport performance, this new MICHELIN tyre keeps an eye on mileage for the daily riders or those who travel long distances on motorcycle trips. The grip in dry and wet conditions, but also its handling and sportiness, make this tyre a suitable answer to the demands of motorcyclists. Available in a wide range of sizes, this tyre is suitable for motorcycles over 300cc, and it has already been homologated on the new 2024 KTM 390 Duke.

MICHELIN Power GP 2: the master of racetracks is homologated for the road
Destined for the track, the MICHELIN Power GP 2 is homologated for the road. Aimed at owners of super sports bikes, this evolution of the MICHELIN Power GP tyre enters a new dimension. The new tyre delivers an even higher level of grip on wet or dry surfaces than its predecessor(2), which was already a leading tyre in this category. Thanks to its level of riding precision, it amplifies the track experience allowing the most experienced riders to push their limits on the track. Designed by the same team of engineers and using the same development tools as those used for MotoGP™ tyres, the new MICHELIN Power GP 2 benefits from the experience gained by Michelin over the course of its 500 victories in the FIM World Championship.

MICHELIN Anakee Road: “MICHELIN road performance”, with a specific trail look
The MICHELIN Anakee Road is designed to complement the Anakee range, which boasts other patterns for more aggressive off-road usage – Anakee Wild and Anakee Adventure. As trail bikes are very versatile, their range of use is just as wide. In fact, the new MICHELIN Anakee Road aims motorcyclists who prefer the road to off-road, riding their bike for long road trips as well as for everyday travel. This new tyre provides high levels of grip in dry and wet conditions(3), a long service life(4) and good stability. The bikes in this segment have become lighter over the generations but are still an imposing size and look. Michelin designed the new Anakee Road to be in harmony with the style of these bikes.

Agostino Mazzocchi, Vice President B2C Sales for Michelin Europe North region:
“Innovation is at the heart of Michelin’s strategy. We constantly invest in the evolution of our motorcycle tyre ranges in order to always be the reference in the field for both riders and OEMs. After challenging market conditions in 2023, we have a strong conviction that motorcyclists are eager to return to road and track. We have worked closely with motorcycle manufacturers to ensure that MICHELIN tyres, thanks to their performance, contribute to the riding pleasure of every rider and meet the specificities of the new motorcycle models presented at the EICMA show. As a result, we are immensely proud of the development team who have designed these three new products unveiled at the end of the year. Many new tyres for different market segments will be unveiled during 2024, all around the world: MICHELIN Power 6, Power GP 2 and Anakee Road are just the beginning of the Michelin’s technical revolution!”

The new Michelin tyres will be available for retailers to order from November 2023 and will be sold to customers from January. Press tests will be held in early 2024. All the information on the sizes, benefits and technologies integrated into the new MICHELIN tyres will be provided at this occasion.

Pirelli SCORPION Trail III is the sportiest tyre ever on asphalt

Pirelli SCORPION Trail III is the sportiest tyre ever on asphalt from the SCORPION range.

The latest addition to the family, on sale from the beginning of 2024, improves road handling thanks to grip, handling and top wet riding performance.

SCORPION Trail III is the new enduro street tyre from Pirelli developed for maxi enduros that combine excellent performance on asphalt and in light off-road usage. The tyre is completing its final and rigorous outdoor tests and will be on sale to the public starting from January 2024.

In recent years the enduro street segment has become one of the most important on the market and Pirelli has chosen to develop tyres with increasingly sporty road performance but with an off-road look, with particular attention to ease of use in different road conditions.

Pirelli SCORPION Trail III in fact presents an aggressive tread look behind which lies strong technological innovation. It takes advantage of the most recent technologies, materials, and processes, as well as the knowledge acquired by Pirelli in the ‘big enduro’ segment, to respond to the most demanding market expectations by offering first-rate road qualities. Compared to its predecessor SCORPION Trail II, the new tyre guarantees significantly improved road handling and sportier behaviour thanks to excellent grip, as well as better performance in the wet. Furthermore, SCORPION Trail III ensures stability even with full load and can best interact with the machine’s electronic systems. Finally, as regards to off-road riding, abrasion resistance has been significantly improved, which is an important parameter for those who love venturing on dirt roads.

SCORPION TRAIL III is the perfect tyre for tackling fun asphalt routes full of curves and is dedicated to all those motorcyclists looking for a product with a tread design dedicated to big enduro bikes on the road with excellent performance, both in dry and wet conditions, combined with sporty behaviour and good mileage.

The target machines of SCORPION TRAIL III are those starting from medium displacements and above (over 400cc) which are fitted with 19- or 21-inch front tyres; therefore, motorcycles capable of tackling long journeys and excursions with light off-road sections. During 2024, 17-inch front and rear equipment dedicated to crossovers will also complete the range.

The choice to identify this new product with the SCORPION brand is in line with the history linked to this range of Pirelli products, which has always been a protagonist in off-road and in two- and four-wheel competitions such as the Enduro and Cross-Country World Championship and the Motocross World Championship- in which the Pirelli off-road tyres have been leaders for 40 years with 81 world titles won.

Pirelli’s 2023 motorcycle racing season is underway in the name of technological innovation

Pirelli is ready for the motorcycle challenges of its motorsport season which will kick off next week in Australia, with the first round of the FIM Superbike World Championship. For 2023, innovation and technology remain the cornerstones of the Bicocca company’s commitment to racing.

Giorgio Barbier, Pirelli Motorcycle Racing Director:
“This year we will be busy in several disciplines. Development activities will focus on the Superbike World Championship where, for the first time ever, we will introduce a front solution in the soft SC0 compound in the premier class. At the same time, we will continue to work on the extra soft SCQ rear, which has officially become part of the DIABLO Superbike range and is therefore now on sale on the market. As for the other classes, in WorldSSP we will add to the 120/70 front size, used up to now, the new larger 125/70 front size that is already available in the Superbike class, while in WorldSSP300 we will introduce, starting from the Misano round, a new benchmark set that uses renewable materials in the tyres. The goal always remains the same: to improve our tyres year after year, to then pour this know-how into road products.”

NEWS AND TARGETS FOR 2023

Competition has been part of Pirelli’s DNA for over 115 years and today there are over 100 two-wheeled championships, at international and national level, in which the Milanese company participates every year. There are several new highlights for 2023, especially within the FIM Superbike World Championship:

  • Introduction of a front SC0 soft compound

After expanding the DIABLO Superbike range in past seasons with the introduction of rear solutions in softer compounds (SCX in 2020 and SCQ in 2022), Pirelli has decided to complete the development by working on a front soft SC0 compound that is capable to balance the very high level of grip offered by the soft solutions on the rear axle. This new front solution will be offered to riders starting from the first European races and this year it will be subject to constant development in order to make it a standard solution for 2024.

  • Inclusion into the DIABLO™ Superbike range of the SCQ rear

The SCQ rear solution was made available to Superbike class riders last season. This extra soft compound has been designed to offer the highest level of grip for short distance and therefore for use mainly in qualifying. In 2022, in some cases, it was also possible to use it to cover the 10 laps of the Superpole Race as well as in some local championships. Accepting requests from customers, riders and promoters of national championships, Pirelli has decided to include it in the DIABLO™ Superbike range that is regularly on sale. Therefore, from this year it will be available to all championships, professional riders and amateurs who want to use it. At the same time, in the Superbike World Championship, Pirelli will continue to develop this product so that it guarantees greater mileage and can cover the 10 laps of the Superpole Race on all circuits.

  • New 125/70 front for WorldSSP

In the Supersport class, Pirelli will introduce the new larger size 125/70, already supplied to Superbike riders, in addition to the current 120/70 size. This will also offer WorldSSP riders a better front-to-rear axle balance.

  • New benchmark set for WorldSSP300

Starting from the fifth round, the Pirelli Emilia-Romagna round at Misano, the riders of the Supersport 300 World Championship will use a new set of DIABLO Superbike tyres, in the front SC1 and rear SC2 compounds, which uses a percentage of renewable materials to replace those of fossil origin. However, since the first round, compared to past seasons, the riders will no longer use the SC1 rear compound but the SC2.

WORLDSBK: PLATFORM OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION SINCE 20 YEARS

Pirelli’s technical partnership with the FIM Superbike World Championship represented the first example of a single tyre supply in the history of top motorsport competitions and, twenty years later, proved to have been a winning choice, as followed by other two and four wheel championships. Pirelli’s strong commitment in this championship is not only justified by the important results in terms of media visibility and brand awareness growth but above all from a technological point of view. For Pirelli two-wheel competitions represent an open-air laboratory for developing and testing, with some of the best riders, their tyres, the same ones that are then put on the market and made available to all motorcyclists around the world. Since 2004, when the Pirelli single tyre supply began in the top production bike derived championship, the Milanese company’s approach has been to remain faithful to the philosophy of the Superbike World Championship by deciding not to supply prototype solutions but normal standard tyres. And, while always remaining faithful to this philosophy over the years, Pirelli has continued to make technological innovation its workhorse by dictating, from time to time, the new parameters of the racing tyres used all over the world: first, in 2013, with the historic transition from 16.5-inch to the new 17-inch tyres, and then, starting from 2018, with the adoption of new larger sizes.

PIRELLI IN MORE THAN 100 COMPETITIONS

Faithful to the strong sporting spirit that has always characterised it as a company, this year Pirelli will participate, in some cases as sole supplier and in others in an open competition between tyre manufacturers, in over 100 of the most important international and national motorcycling competitions, both on track and off road. Among those on asphalt, in addition to the FIM Superbike World Championship, also the FIM Endurance World Championship and, at national level, the British Superbike, Italian Speed Championship (CIV), German IDM Championship and French Superbike Championship, to name just a few. The commitment in off-road competitions has also been confirmed, primarily in the FIM Motocross World Championship in which the Italian tyre company boasts a palmarès of 79 world titles and of which it will be an official tyre supplier until 2025. Then there is the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) and AMA Supercross, as well as numerous national motocross competitions. Pirelli participates in all these championships using standard tyres, DIABLO Superbike and DIABLO Supercorsa for track and SCORPION MX in off-road competitions, all regularly on sale on the market and available to all motorcyclists

Metzeler: the new Extra Soft for extreme enduro makes its debut

The MCE 6 Days Extreme product line for enduro competition is enriched with the addition of a new rear specification in 140/80–18 size designed for the most difficult technical sections and harshest terrain.

MCE 6 Days Extreme, Metzeler’s family of tyres designed for enduro competitions, expands with the introduction of the new Extra Soft rear specification specially developed for extreme enduro races.

The new MCE 6 Days Extreme Extra Soft rear, in 140/80–18 70M NHS size, is a specialist tyre suitable for one-day competitions and special stages. It features a tread compound designed to guarantee maximum performance in extreme conditions from both a technical and environmental point of view, therefore effective even in very low temperatures. Thanks to the high level of grip, the Extra Soft allows riders to tackle even the most difficult obstacles and to restart easily even from a standstill, in the absence of a run-up. Furthermore, the very consistent overall deformation of the carcass guarantees a good level of comfort and makes it an easy tyre to use, even for less experienced riders.

The Extra Soft specification, which visually stands out from the rest of the range due to the presence of three parallel white stripes on the tread, features a new layout of the knobs to ensure optimal performance even at high lean angles, less wear and greater resistance to fatigue. These characteristics are very important in extreme enduro competitions in which the tyre is subjected to cyclical and multidirectional deformations. The compound is also completely new, based on 100% Carbon Black and highly resilient, which means it is capable of absorbing deformation energy. It also has a very wide range of use: working even in very cold temperatures.

The Extra Soft completes the Metzeler range for enduro competitions, a discipline that has involved the German brand since the first decades of the last century. Developed together with the best riders and teams of the FIM Enduro and FIM Hard Enduro World Championships such as KTM, GAS GAS and Honda, the MCE 6 Days Extreme tyres have written pages of history in the most important enduro competitions and are chosen as original equipment by the best manufacturers for their off-road models.

Although they were designed for Enduro and Extreme Enduro World Championship riders, the MCE 6 Days Extreme tyres are also suitable for enthusiasts of the discipline who want to equip their motorcycles with high-performance tyres that make traction, versatility and resistance of the knobs their strengths.

Pirelli Unveils The New Diablo Supercorsa

Pirelli unveils the new Diablo Supercorsa: sport tyres par excellence from WorldSBK.

Pirelli illustrates the fourth generation of DIABLO Supercorsa tyres in detail, announced in September and now available to the general public for purchase from January, both in the SP version, designed primarily for street use, and in the SC version, available in various compounds for track use. DIABLO Supercorsa V4 (this is the full name, where V4 stands for the fourth series) is an entirely new product compared with its predecessor, the DIABLO Supercorsa V3, in terms of tread pattern, compounds, structures, and profiles. Both in the SC racing version and in the SP race replica version, DIABLO Supercorsa is the highest embodiment of Pirelli’s sporting DNA thanks to its extremely high and sporty performance or, to sum up in one word – speed.

THE PINNACLE OF PIRELLI SPORTINESS ON THE STREET IN ITS FOURTH GENERATION

From 2002, the year the first DIABLO tyre was born, the line of products which bear this name has identified Pirelli’s motorcycle sport tyres, continuing the success story which began in the ’70s, marked by exciting names such as Mandrake, Phantom, Gordon, Demon, and Dragon. With the DIABLO family, Pirelli revolutionised global street tyre paradigms, creating a proper brand, enriched year after year by technological innovations and the experience gained in the FIM World Superbike Championship, where Pirelli has been sole tyre supplier since 2004. After introducing the DIABLO Superbike tyres in 2005, slicks exclusively for track use designed for the Superbike category, in 2007, Pirelli launched the first generation of DIABLO Supercorsa SC grooved racing tyres, followed by the SP street version in 2008. DIABLO Supercorsa SC became the absolute benchmark for the Supersport and Superstock categories, both in the world and national championships and even now it is the standard for those championships that still use treaded tyres. In the same way, over the years, DIABLO Supercorsa SP has been selected as OEM equipment on the most prestigious supersport and hyper naked bikes. The second generation of DIABLO Supercorsa, presented in 2012, was then followed by the third in 2018, and now the fourth continues the path of technological excellence begun three decades ago.

ONE SOUL, TWO PRODUCTS: SC AND SP, FROM THE TRACK TO THE STREET
When Pirelli decided to make the first DIABLO Supercorsa in 2007, they did so with a rather specific idea and goal. The idea was to make a racing tyre respecting the basic philosophy of the World Superbike Championship, namely the bond with normal production, so not a prototype tyre, but a product that can be used by both professional riders and normal motorcyclists. The goal is to take advantage of the top category in the production derived world series not only as a showcase to give the brand visibility but also as a laboratory to develop, with some of the best riders in the world and the most prestigious manufacturers, advanced technological solutions and tyres not for exclusive use by the world championship riders, but also for everyday use. And it is precisely with DIABLO Supercorsathat the motto dear to Pirelli’s heart was born, “We sell what we race, we race what we sell”, indicating how the very same tyres used by professional riders in races can be purchased by any motorcyclist. This is why, from the beginning, DIABLO Supercorsa was developed as a single project but in two forms: the SC track tyre in various compounds and its SP street version, both in standard production available for purchase on the market in order to meet not only the needs of track riders, but also sport street riding enthusiasts. Over the years, DIABLO Supercorsa SP has become the supersport tyre of choice for all high performance bike owners who want an uncompromising street riding experience, thanks to extremely high levels of grip and performance. But above all, as of today, it remains the best and most immediate example of the technological transfer from track to road of Pirelli tyres, since it shares with the ‘SC’ the tread pattern, profiles, and many materials and technologies used in terms of structure, in addition to one of the two compounds it uses (the SC3).

CONCENTRATION OF TECHNOLOGY, PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY BORN IN SUPERBIKE
DIABLO Supercorsa, in both the SC and the SP versions, is a true concentration of technology capable of providing high performance combined with the highest safety standards thanks to the ability to interact and collaborate closely with the most modern and sophisticated riding assistance systems. It is the result of twenty years of studies, development, and testing of solutions by Pirelli in the FIM World Superbike Championship. It is a tyre that was also designed with input from former world champions and developed with the support of all the manufacturers and teams that participate in the most important competition for factory derivative bikes. DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4, where the abbreviation SC stands for “Special Compound”, is the best and fastest treaded track tyre ever made by Pirelli. Thanks to the various compounds it is available in, DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4 is intended for use by both professional and semi-professional riders, as well as by those who are simply track day enthusiasts or riders just starting out in their careers who want to improve performance without making changes to the settings on their bikes. Compared with its V3 predecessor, these are the features and relative benefits for the riders that DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4 has to offer:

  • Latest generation compounds for outstanding performance and grip
  • Racing structure for better support coming out of corners
  • Racing profiles to the advantage of rideability, line holding, and stability at high speeds
  • Tread pattern with patented Flash evolution for smoother power on leans and improved consistency of performance

In the same way, DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4, where the abbreviation SP stands for “Sport Production”, is the sportiest tyre ever for street use in the DIABLO family. Compared with the SC version, DIABLO Supercorsa SP complies with all the regulatory restrictions of the vehicles it can equip – such as, for example, the speed index requirement (W) – and it is less sensitive to temperature, as well as heating up more quickly and providing more mileage due to the compounds. This tyre is intended for riders who love sport riding not only on the track but on the road as well. This undoubtedly includes owners of supersport street bikes from which the World Superbike Championship bikes are derived, but also track day enthusiasts who want a street legal tyre so they can ride to the circuit instead of having to load the bike on a trailer and one that will also let them turn laps on the track without having to swap out tyres. DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4 ensures significant benefits for riders:

  • Dual compound on both the front and the rear for maximum grip in leans and outstanding thrust coming out of turns, but also adequate mileage.
  • Latest generation structures that work in unison with the compounds for optimum performance both on the road and on the track by simply adjusting the pressure.
  • Profiles, identical to those of the SC version which ensure a simple ride and maximum reactivity.
  • Tread pattern identical to that of the SC with the new flash pattern interrupted at the centre with a slick area for smoother thrust at any lean angle and more consistent

Both versions share the tread pattern, the profiles, the compounds in part, and some technological solutions in terms of structure.

Tread pattern

  • The interrupted FLASH design improves water displacement and the area of contact surface with the ground.
  • The slick section where the pattern is interrupted has an impact on the rigidity of the tread, reducing risks of groove deformation, and ensures better thrust at any lean angle.
  • The direction of the flash pattern on the tread follows the direction of the lateral force experienced in track riding, ensuring more even and consistent performance along with reduced warm-up time.
  • The first area of the shoulder without grooves guarantees greater contact between rubber and road surface both halfway and all the way into a lean in order to ensure greater grip on turns
  • The completely slick external area of the shoulder improves thrust at extreme angles

Profiles

  • The same racing profiles, developed in the World Superbike Championship, of the DIABLO Superbike slick tyre and the other fourth generation hypersport tyres in the Pirelli range.
  • Multi-radius profiles for abrupt direction changes, whereas the slick shoulder area provides high grip and outstanding line holding on corners.
  • The profile of the front improves handling, enticing the rider to lean into corners earlier, facilitating quick direction changes. It also provides exceptional stability thanks to the extended contact area in the leaning stage.
  • The rear follows the same pattern and similar geometry to the front in order to ensure synchronised performance of the set.
  • In the DIABLO™ SUPERCORSA SP V4, the tyre bead is designed to provide maximum performance both with tyre pressure on the road and with track use pressure (2.3 Bar front / 2.1 Bar rear with hot tyres). It is precisely the possibility of decreasing tyre pressure for track sessions that sets DIABLO SUPERCORSA SP V4 clearly apart from the other tyres in the Pirelli hypersport range.

Structure

  • The SC version shares with the DIABLO™ SUPERBIKE slick both structure and material which are able to ensure top performance and greater ease of riding with the use of specific pressures for the track.
  • Compared with its V3 predecessor, the new V4 uses new materials, such as wider section structural cords made up of a high number of textile fibres braided together to give the tyre greater rigiditycombined with better shock-absorbing capabilities.
  • In the SP version, each size has its own structure, fine-tuned for optimum performance in combination with the width of the specific profile for that size, the proportions of the compound and the arrangement of the tread pattern. Additionally, the structure of the SP is optimised for street use, so also for long distances in a straight line on motorways.

Compounds

DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4 is available in three compounds for both the front and rear:

  • SC1 – Front: maximum feeling / Rear: top performance with high temperatures and not very abrasive asphalt
  • SC2 – Front: maximum stability and consistency / Rear: consistent performance and ideal for low temperatures or extremely abrasive asphalt
  • SC3 – The race-for-fun choice for extended track sessions, but not intended for professional racing use

DIABLO Supercorsa SC V4 range

DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4 is dual compound both at the front and the rear.

Front:

  • The first DIABLO Supercorsa tyre to adopt two compounds at the front.
  • Layout with a central and base compound paired with a second compound on the tyre shoulders.
  • The base compound, which covers the entire profile of the tyre and emerges coming into contact with the asphalt at the central section, is full-silica and extremely versatile, providing thermal stability and ensures consistent performance in both cold and hot temperatures.
  • The compound of the shoulders is the same one used in the SC3 racing version, in 100% carbon black formulation, and it is capable of ensuring outstanding handling and maximum grip even at full lean.

Rear:

  • Compared with the front, this has a softer central compound and a wider side, but still maintaining the same base compound of the front in support of the two compounds in contact with the asphalt.
  • The central compound is 100% carbon black and optimised to work effectively in a broad range of temperatures because it provides grip and quick heating in various conditions. Additionally, it ensures stability at high speeds and resistance.
  • The compound used on the shoulders is the same as the one used on the front, so SC3, for maximum power coming out of corners.
  • The base compound, which is beneath the two compounds that are in contact with the asphalt, has a 100% Carbon Black formulation and was designed to work in the best possible way with the other two compounds, providing thermal stability and a better feeling for the rider.

DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4

BEST-SELLER PEDIGREE: MORE THAN 3.5 MILLION TYRES SOLD

The Diablo Supercorsa is a success story not only on the technological side, but also in terms of sales. In fact, since its début in 2007,  more than 3.5 million DIABLO Supercorsa tyres have been sold all over the world, making this product one of the most successful motorcycle tyres in Pirelli history. A success which, with this fourth generation, Pirelli will continue to build on, equipping the most prestigious supersport and naked bikes that will be introduced to the market in 2023 and the years to come with DIABLO Supercorsa SP and, with DIABLO Supercorsa SC, offering riders and track enthusiasts a racing tyre that embodies the most cutting-edge technologies.

MISSION RACING AND SPORT RANGE REVAMPING ACCOMPLISHED

With DIABLO Supercorsa V4, Pirelli concluded the revamping process of the fourth generation of the DIABLO racing and sport range which began in 2021 with DIABLO ROSSO IV and continued in 2022 with DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa. Therefore, the Pirelli range is now made up of two DIABLO SUPERBIKE racing products – the competition slick par excellence, and DIABLO SUPERCORSA SC V4, the treaded tyre for the track – and of supersport and sport tyres primarily for street use, beginning with the new DIABLO Supercorsa SP V4, the most extreme of the street tyres also suitable for the track, as well as the DIABLO ROSSO IV CORSA, the most focused version of the DIABLO ROSSO IV. Each of these tyres are covered by patents developed by Pirelli in the World Superbike Championship and the difference between these five products lies substantially in the type of use, whether street or track, in performance on dry and wet asphalt, and in the mileage that each one is able to provide.

The new KAROO 4 enhances the know-how of the two-wheel focused brand to reach a new level of performance in the maxi enduro segment. Available from March 2022, it will replace the current KAROO 3.

Successor of the award-winning KAROO 3, KAROO 4 represents the latest generation of the METZELER product family: a knobbly tyre intended for the equipment of adventure and maxi enduro motorcycles, designed for on/off use.

The new KAROO 4 enhances even the most cutting edge, latest medium and large displacement enduro motorcycles that travel both on asphalt and off-road, working in tune with the most advanced rider aid systems. KAROO 4 is a highly versatile product that gives, compared to its predecessor KAROO 3, a significant improvement in off-road and on-road wet performance, even when fully loaded.

Who is KAROO 4 designed for?
METZELER KAROO 4 is the ideal choice for:

  • Owners of adventure motorcycles, riders who use their motorcycles for journeys 50% on-road 50% off-road, looking for experiences without limits. They seek reliability and performance in different weather conditions, stability even at full load and mileage.
  • Motorcyclists who want to test their skills and their bike’s capabilities, they value off-road performance in a tyre.
  • Owners of ‘scrambler’ style machines, who require an aggressive knobbly look without sacrificing on-road performance, with particular reference to handling and safety in the wet.

The benefits of KAROO 4
The main benefits of KAROO 4 are:

  • Exemplary off-road traction, thanks to the patented tread design.
  • Significant on-road handling even at full load, thanks to the profile featuring METZELER MRC[1] technology that improves line holding despite the ‘knobs’.
  • Extreme abrasion, cut and tearing resistance, thanks to the carbon black based compounds and footprint area optimisation.
  • Top wet performance and integration with rider aids. The combination of the technologies featured in KAROO 4 allows riders to safely manage different weather conditions and road surfaces, including in case of emergency braking.

THE TYRE IN DETAIL
The tread pattern
KAROO 4 features a revolutionary patented tread design, which raises the tyre’s all-round performance levels on both asphalt and on different types of off-road terrain.

As for the onroad performance, METZELER engineers worked to improve in particular the overall handling and wet behaviour, developing a knobbly pattern that allows you to safely tackle certain lean angles even in wet conditions. In the off-road field, KAROO 4 increases the performance level especially on very soft surfaces, such as sand, mud and clay.

The KAROO 4 tread pattern features these main characteristics:
– Patented design DETRATEC™, composed of central spoon-shaped knobs, which are separated from the side knobs by a wavy longitudinal groove. The combination of these three elements has a dual function: at first it traps the terrain between the knobs to generate lateral thrust and secondly, it releases it thanks to self-cleaning properties.

– Multi-pitch design. The groups of knobs are repeated with an irregular cadence to mitigate the impact of the tread against the asphalt and improve rolling smoothness;

– Optimised footprint area that includes a greater number of knobs in the contact patch, compared to KAROO 3, to improve road handling and integration with electronic rider aids;

Patented DYMATEC technology, a design methodology that preserve the functional geometries of the knobs and the tyre performance over time. In details, this technology features variable groove wall angles depending on their position along the tread band to maximise tread pattern solidity and wear uniformity.

The tread compound
The front tyre of KAROO 4 is a single compound. The radial sizes feature a carbon black compound with extreme resistance to abrasion, a direct evolution of what was used for KAROO 3. For cross-ply sizes, the engineers of the METZELER brand developed a new compound with the aim of reaching a wider operating range and greater adhesion to surfaces.

The rear radial sizes are bi-compound:

The central compound is 100% carbon black, with remarkable abrasion resistance;

The shoulder compound has an 80% carbon black and 20% silica formulation, to ensure thermal stability even under stress.

The profile

KAROO 4 adopt the METZELER MRC[2] technology, which features different profiles from the central band to the shoulder area. This increases ease of handling, improves traction and stability, even under full load. In the rear sizes, with a shorter and wider contact area compared to its predecessor, the profile of the KAROO 4 helps to reduce and even out tread wear for greater mileage.

The structure

KAROO 4 features lighter construction schemes than its predecessor. In particular radial sizes, thanks to the use of the zero-degree steel belt with INTERACT variable tension technology, guarantee a gradual riding response and a solid feeling of control.

DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa with Pirelli 150th anniversary logo
Formed in Milan on 28 January 1872, the company began its business with diversified rubber products, making the first tyre for bicycles in 1890. Always passionate about competition, Pirelli participated in the first motorcycle races in 1897 and today continues with the role of sole supplier to the Superbike World Championship, a collaboration that started in 2004, as well as being the most successful brand in MXGP. Today Pirelli is the only tyre company focused exclusively on the consumer world, with products and services for cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

Who is DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa designed for?
DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa is the ideal choice for:

  • Motorcyclists who love a dynamic riding style on winding roads and mountain passes, who want a tyre to match the sporty performance of their motorcycle;
  • Motorcyclists who are passionate about tuning, who look for performance upgrades and take care of the bike set-up and aesthetics. These riders seek the optimal set-up of their motorcycle according to the type of use, also through the upgrade to high-performance equipment. They also recognise the lightning-shaped tread design, here interrupted, as the iconic symbol representing DIABLO ROSSO sporty performance.

The benefits of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa:
The main benefits of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa are:

  • Higher grip in dry conditions, thanks to a slicker tread design that guarantees a larger footprint area alongside the use of innovative compounds that increase mechanical grip levels;
  • Enhanced hi-performance handling and precise feedback. The innovative technologies applied to the carcass make DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa able to adhere to the micro-roughness of the asphalt, ensuring precise feedback and a feeling of control;
  • Performance consistency over multiple riding sessions, made possible by the characteristics of the tread pattern, where the intended repetition of the grooves offers high resistance to stress, and, by the new arrangement of the compounds, ensures optimal thermal balance.

THE TYRE IN DETAILS
Tread Pattern
The tread design of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa features a calculated repetition of the central grooves and a slicker shoulder area, for a void/fill ratio 25%[1] lower than DIABLO ROSSO IV.

In the central area, the group of longitudinal grooves assures directional stability and water evacuation. Their orientation follows the wear waves and enables an even wear, while their position increase the structural stability of the tyre to give performance consistency over multiple riding sessions.

In the intermediate area, linear grooves of different lengths are positioned using a scheme that balances compound flexibility and water evacuation. DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa features a large slick area on the shoulders, able to offer high levels of grip, precision and stability at maximum lean angles.

Compounds
The front tyre is divided into three areas using two different compounds:

  • The central band has a Full Silica compound that occupies around 45% of the section width and is present in the contact area used up to 25 degrees of lean angle;
  • The side areas have a softer compound, also Full Silica, thanks to the use of innovative resins that offer excellent grip and improve the front tyre feedback.

The rear tyre also has a bi-compound scheme for excellent road performance and works in harmony with the front:

  • The central Full Silica compound allows for a quick warm-up and excellent chemical grip on different surface conditions;
  • The shoulder compound is 100% Carbon Black and derives directly from the compounds of DIABLO Supercorsa SC used in racing competitions. This compound is able to offer support at full lean and traction during acceleration managing the torque generated by the latest generation superbikes.

Profiles
Pirelli exploits all the know-how acquired in the fastest production-derived motorcycle championship. The profiles of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa are therefore race-derived and are characterised by a multi radius design that improves the tyre’s handling.

The central area has a sharper profile to facilitate immediate lean and rapid change of direction. In the lateral areas, on the other hand, the profile curvature is less accentuated in order to increase the contact area and ensure maximum traction when cornering. Front and rear tyres follow a similar profile design, thus ensuring a perfectly balanced and neutral behaviour of the set.

Structure
With DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa Pirelli uses a racing-derived structure with zero-degree steel belt, which manages to adapt perfectly to different levels of stress without compromising comfort and work optimally with the most advanced electronic control systems. The stiff cord technology features structural cords that are more rigid and at the same time distributed with less density (-20%) compared to a standard sport tyre[2]. This scheme leaves more room for the rubber compound, which improves riding feeling and precision thanks to its damping properties, thus transmitting to the rider, a safety feeling and control of the motorcycle.

The range

The DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa range includes the following sizes.

Front

Tourance Next 2 And Karoo 4 Complete Metzeler On/off Tyre Range

Available from January 2022, METZELER TOURANCE NEXT 2 enhances the know-how of the two-wheel focused brand to reach a new level of performance in the adventure segment.

The new KAROO 4, is a tyre designed to equip adventure and maxi enduro motorcycles, thanks to a mix of cutting-edge technologies and processes, taking riders to the boundaries of adventouring

New sizes dedicated to adventure bikes enlarge the range of supersports tyres SPORTEC M9 RR and sport touring tyres ROADTEC 01 SE

The two-wheel focused brand strengthens the METZELER range dedicated to the on/off segment with the introduction of brand new products, to offer adventure enthusiasts a bespoke tyre for any need. The new TOURANCE Next 2, fourth generation of the TOURANCE family, and KAROO 4 tyres represent the main news by METZELER for the on/off segment, both specifically developed for the latest generation of adventure and maxi enduro bikes.

Who is TOURANCE Next 2 designed for?
TOURANCE Next 2 guarantees a new level of performance in the adventure segment and it was developed for riders riding their motorcycles both for long journeys and out-of-town excursions, alone or with a passenger, who are looking for top performance combined with riding comfort and durability.

Features and benefits of TOURANCE Next 2
The main benefits of TOURANCE Next 2 are:

  • Accurate control at any lean angle, leading to an agile and neutral behaviour of the motorcycle thanks to the radial structure with zero degrees steel belt and INTERACT technology;
  • Top response in wet and braking conditions. The innovative formulation of the compounds with liquid polymers and their arrangement, which uses METZELER HYPERBASE technology, make TOURANCE Next 2 the new reference tyre in terms of braking and wet performance, guaranteeing  braking distances 1.5m shorter than its predecessor TOURANCE Next[1];
  • Immediate and lasting performance. The evolution of the legendary TOURANCE Next has been enhanced by new compounds and the METZELER DYMATEC technology applied to the tread pattern. This involves a particular design methodology to preserve the functional geometries of the grooves and consequently the tyre performance over time;
  • Comfort and safety even when fully loaded. The combination of tread pattern, structures and adaptive compounds make the motorcycle extremely comfortable and manageable, regardless of the presence of a passenger or luggage.

THE TYRE IN DETAIL

Tread pattern

TOURANCE Next 2 features tread pattern  traits of the pi – πwhich in addition to being distinctive of the  METZELER brand, also has a specific functional reason.

The longitudinal grooves in the central part of the tread, which make up the upper part of the pi, are interrupted by other grooves in order to ensure greater stability of the compound and consequently a uniform wear. Likewise, these grooves improve lateral thrust for high-end off-road performance.

The patented DYMATEC technology has been applied to the tread pattern, which involves a design methodology specifically designed to preserve the functional geometries of the compound blocks and consequently tyre performance over time. Thanks to DYMATEC, Dynamic Mould Angle Technology, the position of the groove along the tread width, and consequently the different lean angle in which it is involved, determines the specific angle of its the walls, in order to better manage the dynamic stresses typical of on/off riding and ensure maximum wear uniformity.

Another important feature of the front tyre is the irregular repetition of the tread pattern (Multi-Pitch Knob Layout), a technology that places blocks of compound of different sizes in contact with the asphalt, to ensure smooth rolling and a high acoustic comfort level.

Tread Compound

On the front, METZELER introduces an innovative high-silica compound (85%) containing functionalized polymers (SBR) which enhance its wet grip characteristics and stability, allowing a reduction of the braking distance by more than 10%[2] and full stability under different load conditions.

As for the TOURANCE Next 2 rear sizes, the central strip replicates the same compound as the front, while the shoulder areas are full-silica and formulated for wet performance and grip while leaning. Some sizes feature the arrangement of the tread compounds according to the Cap&Base scheme, while others use the patented Hyperbase formula.

According to the Cap&Base scheme, the shoulder areas in soft compound, which ensure grip when cornering, are layered on a harder compound base that ensures consistency in performance and thermal balance.

With the Hyperbase scheme, both shoulder areas and the central compound strip are supported by a base formulated with a specific full-carbon-black compound, oriented towards dynamic and thermal stability.
