SV650X and TT-winning GSX-R1000 headline Suzuki display at MCN London Show

Suzuki ’s new SV650X will headline the Japanese manufacturer’s lineup at this year’s MCN London show – which takes place from 16-18 February at the ExCeL in London’s Royal Victoria Dock – alongside Michael Dunlop’s Senior TT-winning GSX-R1000.

The SV650X uses the same punchy, 645cc v-twin as the standard SV650, but comes with café-racer-inspired styling and a sportier ride, thanks to its clip-on handlebars, tuck-roll seat, and new, preload-adjustable front forks. It also gets a new headlight cowling, and comes with an RRP of just £5,999.

Also commanding attention at the show will the GSX-R1000 that won the Senior TT on the Isle of Man last year, in the hands of Michael Dunlop. The new GSX-R1000 – which benefits from technology taken directly from Suzuki’s GSX-RR MotoGP machine – set the world alight in 2017, and also won the MotoAmerica Superbike championship and Australian Superbike series, and was a race-winner in the British Superbike and Superstock championships.

The GSX-R1000 that will be campaigned by Buildbase Suzuki’s Richard Cooper and Bradley Ray in the 2018 British Superbike championship will also be on display, with both riders present on the Suzuki stand over the course of the show.

The GSX-R125 and GSX-S125, GSX-S750, GSX-S1000, GSX-S1000F, GSX250R, and SV650 will also feature in Suzuki’s display, alongside three models from Suzuki’s adventure range; the V-Strom 1000X GT, V-Strom 650X GT, and V-Strom 250, while the Burgman 650 and Burgman 400 will represent Suzuki’s luxury maxi-scooter lineup.

The MCN London motorcycle show takes place from 16-18 February, with doors opening at 10am on Friday 16, and 9am on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18. For ticket information, click here.

Suzuki confirms pricing for new SV650X

Suzuki has confirmed pricing for the new SV650X, with the cafe racer-inspired, V-twin middleweight coming with a launch price of £5,999 when it arrives in dealerships in early 2018.

Unveiled at Eicma, ‘neo-retro’ styling sees the SV650X get a new bikini fairing, tinted screen, and tuck-roll seat, while clip-on handlebars add to the look and give a sportier rider compared to the one-piece handlebars of the standard machine.

Performance comes from Suzuki’s renowned, punchy, and characterful V-twin engine, while handling is improved with new, preload adjustable front forks, which appear across the SV range for 2018.

Suzuki SV650X revealed at Eicma

Suzuki SV650X revealed at Eicma 1Suzuki has revealed its new SV650X for 2018, pulling the wraps off the café racer-inspired V-twin middleweight today at Eicma, in Milan, Italy.

Taking design cues from the SV650 Rally Concept – which the Japanese firm showcased at the Osaka Motor Show in 2016 – the SV650X follows the same concept with a design that pays homage to the tarmac rally cars of the 1970s. The ‘neo-retro’ styling sees the SV650X get a new bikini fairing and tinted screen, clip-on handlebars, and a tuck-roll seat.

The SV650X utilises the same punchy V-twin engine as the standard SV650, and gets Suzuki’s low-rpm assist and easy-start system. There are also new, preload adjustable front forks, which will feature across the SV range for 2018.

Suzuki GB marketing manager, Rob Cooper, said, “The SV650 is a hugely popular machine in the middleweight sector of the market, and it has been ever since the launch of the original in 1999. Thanks to its characterful and punchy V-twin engine and capable chassis, it combines a fun, sporty ride with affordability and practicality. The SV650X builds on that proven platform and brings retro styling to the range, with clip-on handlebars that not only add to the look, but create an even sportier feel. Preload adjustable forks will further enhance performance, with riders able to adjust to suit their own riding style and use, and that will apply across the SV range for 2018.”

The new SV650X will be on display at Motorcycle Live, which takes place from 18-26 November at the NEC in Birmingham, alongside the rest of Suzuki’s 2018 model range, including the award-winning GSX-R1000R and new GSX-S125 and GSX-R125 machines.

Suzuki to unveil SV650X at Tokyo Motor Show next month

Suzuki Motor Corporation will unveil the SV650X at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show – which takes place from 27 October to 5 November – an evolution of the SV650 Rally concept shown at last year’s event.

The original concept was designed to pay homage to the tarmac rally cars and bikes of the 1970s. ‘Neo-retro’ design sees the SV650X get a newly-styled bikini fairing and tinted screen, fog lamps, clip-on handlebars, with a tuck-roll – already available as a genuine accessory on the SV650 – completing the look.

The Japanese firm is currently assessing market reaction and customer feedback before confirming production plans.
Suzuki GB general manager, Paul de Lusignan, commented, “The SV650 Rally concept generated a lot of interest at last year’s show, with retro-styled machines proving very popular among riders. The SV650X is an evolution of that concept, and shows how that would translate to a production machine. Currently we cannot confirm a production schedule. We will first assess reactions to the SV650X before finalising plans.”

Suzuki will confirm it’s 2018 model plans before the end of the year.
