Smart Jacket – MotoGP protection for the road from Dainese

Designed with the flexibility to be worn over or under any outfit and without needing to be connected to the motorcycle, Dainese’s Smart Jacket combines all the power of the latest generation of D-Air® – Dainese’s Airbag System – into the convenience of a vest.

With no need for a back protector, the Smart Jacket can be folded when not in use to be stored in a backpack or even a top box. However, this doesn’t mean riders aren’t protected, with the system offering the equivalent protection as seven back protectors and the Smart Jacket being constructed from abrasion resistant material.

The Dainese D-air® airbag system protects the motorcycle rider’s back and vital parts with its ‘Shield’, the patented airbag with microfilaments that ensure high shock absorption capacity without the need for hardshell protective gear. Its special structure and microfilaments guarantee uniform, controlled inflation, offering the same level of protection over every inch of the jacket. Dainese’s D-air® system is the only certified motorcycle airbag protection that doesn’t use hardshell protection on the torso (EN 1621-4 Lev. 2) or back (EN 1621-4 CB Lev. 1).

Rain or shine, the Smart Jacket has riders covered – with ventilation for warmer days and a totally waterproof electronic system for any sudden downpours.

The brain inside the Smart Jacket senses and analyses everything that goes on around the motorcycle rider. It uses its sensors to monitor and process data 1,000 times a second, the complex Dainese-developed algorithm ensures that the Smart Jacket only deploys when needed – in the event of lowsides, highsides, rear-end collisions and in the event of a collision with a stationary vehicle.

The intelligence behind the Dainese D-air® in the Smart Jacket is the result of data gathered in more than 25 years of tests and use on the road and track by both everyday and professional motorcycle riders throughout the world.

With a battery life of up to 26 hours continuous use and a shipping mode, activated using the D-Air® app – which doesn’t require a subscription – the Smart Jacket can go everywhere.

The Smart Jacket can be serviced and repaired in the UK in Dainese’s service centres.

The Smart Jacket in black is available in both Men’s and Women’s fit options and in sizes XS – XXL. It has an RRP of £649.95. The Smart Jacket Hi-Vis has an RRP of £729.95 and is available in sizes XS-4XL

Design Your Duke Contest – Hosted By Rok Bagoroš

Flex your creative muscles and #GETDUKED!

KTM is proud to announce the DESIGN YOUR DUKE CONTEST – a Pan-European READY TO RACE challenge to find the best KTM DUKE design amongst all Orange Bleeders. The project is supported by Vectary – an online 3D modeling software – which allows entrants to see their creations come to life in a virtual environment.

DUKE RIDERS STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

Embracing the colorful KTM DUKE community, KTM offers a chance to rewrite the rulebook with a 100 % original design! The DESIGN YOUR DUKE CONTEST challenges European Orange Bleeders to flex their creative muscles by designing their very own, one-of-a-kind sticker kit to be applied on a KTM 125 DUKE, KTM 390 DUKE, KTM 890 DUKE, KTM 890 DUKE GP or KTM 890 DUKE R.

By following 4 easy steps to enter the contest, everyone with a tablet, laptop, or smartphone can start to create a READY TO RACE sticker kit design and make it come to life using Vectary 3D software.

The rightful owner of the DUKE DESIGNER podium will be chosen by Rok Bagoroš and KTM by the end of June, with the winner taking home a brand-new KTM DUKE, handed over in the hometown of the DUKE family – Mattighofen.

“DUKE riders want to stand out of the crowd, not only with the bike itself but also with the design. As individualization is important, we want to give the DUKE riders the opportunity to rewrite the rulebook with a 100% original one-of-a-kind design – done by themselves! We can’t wait to see the results!” Rok Bagoroš, KTM Factory Stunt Rider and DUKE Ambassador.

The competition takes place from April 21st to June 21st, 2022, with the winner announced on July 21st, 2022.

FROM 2D TO 3D – HOW A DESIGN COMES TO LIVE

A central landing page hosts all the information, rules, design templates, and the central software to render your very own design onto a 3D KTM DUKE model.

To create a unique experience, Vectary have tailored their proprietary 3D Studio App for the KTM DESIGN YOUR DUKE CONTEST as the central design interface to make every DUKE design a personalized experience. The 3D Studio App can be operated intuitively to view the 3D model from all sides and angles. Once happy with the result, entrants can finalize their entry into the contest simply by exporting pictures from the 3D Studio App and posting them on Instagram using the hashtag #DESIGNYOURDUKECONTEST.

“Collaborating with KTM on this project is a creative meeting of the minds. We are opening up the possibilities for design and customization by allowing the motorcycling community to view their creations on a very easily accessible 3D platform. This way, they can focus less on the technical know-how and more energy towards the creative process.” Michal Koor, Vectary CEO

New Yamaha XSR125 Legacy: Ride Through Time

Yamaha Sport Heritage goes from strength to strength

Since the introduction of the first Yamaha Sport Heritage models the segment has proved to be a great success with riders of all ages and experience who appreciate the special way these machines blend authentic style and individual character with modern technology and sports performance.

The XSR brand has quickly established itself as the definitive line for riders who appreciate iconic motorcycles with real character and genuine charm. Yet at the same time as paying tribute to some of Yamaha’s most iconic models from a previous era, the latest XSR700 and XSR900 are also engineered to deliver high levels of engine, chassis and braking performance – giving their riders the very best of both worlds.

Growing popularity
The increasing popularity of Yamaha Sport Heritage models has been stimulated by the influential custom movement – and in particular by the company’s Yard Built programme that has encouraged and facilitated the construction of many special projects by some of Europe’s most creative bike builders. Since its inception the Yard Built project has seen the creation of more than 60 exclusive, one-off specials based on production Sport Heritage models, and Yamaha will continue to invest in the Yard Built scene for 2022 and beyond.

The Yard Built movement has shown how a stock Yamaha production model is the ideal canvas to be transformed into everything from a flat tracker or scrambler through to a café racer. Influenced by some of Yamaha’s most iconic designs from the 60s, 70s and 80s – and equipped with timeless features including spoked wheels, historic colours and quality components – these Yard Built Yamahas have reinvigorated the custom scene and have strengthened the Faster Sons community.

Blending heritage design with contemporary technology in its own unique way, the Faster Sons philosophy is inspiring many riders to personalize their own machines and create something very special that reflects their own personal lifestyle – while at the same time adding an exciting new dimension to the world of motorcycling. Some of these retro design elements – such as spoked wheels – are now a standard feature on the new XSR125 Legacy, underlining how this stylish motorcycle takes the very best from the past and mixes it with the latest design and technology.

New XSR125 Legacy: Capturing the spirit of motorcycling
Yamaha has always been committed to building characterful motorcycles for the widest range of riders. Since July 1955 the needs and desires of the rider have always been the main focus of attention when developing new models. It is this customer-centric philosophy that has enabled the company to create iconic and game-changing models that have helped to change the face of motorcycling over the past seven decades.

The company’s mission can be summed up by the Japanese word ‘Kando’: That is to create deeply satisfying products that inspire the heart and spirit – and the new XSR125 Legacy is a perfect example of Kando in action.

Developed from the extremely successful XSR125 that was launched in 2021, the XSR125 Legacy features the same 125cc VVA engine and chassis architecture. However, the XSR125 Legacy benefits from a number of stylistic changes that transform the character of the motorcycle to give it a unique neo-retro look with a truly individual feel.

These refinements give the new model a distinctive silhouette and individual character that reinforce its links with classic Yamahas from the past while underlining the ethos of the Sport Heritage brand: “Inspired by the past, built for the future”. The XSR125 Legacy is indeed built to be a part of the future for every rider – beginner, experienced or returning – who appreciates timeless style and is looking for up-to-the-minute engine and chassis technology that delivers a quality ride.

Lightweight spoked wheels
The XSR125 Legacy is equipped with a range of model-specific features that work together harmoniously to create a machine with a special character that is sure to be appreciated by the many riders who love timeless style. The lightweight spoked wheels are reminiscent of the designs used on Yamaha’s pioneering racing machines from the 1960s and 1970s and are fundamental to giving this new Sport Heritage bike an authentic look and feel.

Gold-coloured rims
The XSR125 Legacy’s classic spoked wheels are equipped with beautifully finished gold-coloured alloy rims that underline the bike’s excellent build quality and reinforce its strong connection with some of Yamaha’s iconic models from the past.

Set against the all-black bodywork and chassis, the combination of spoked wheels and gold rims gives this 125cc neo-retro a truly individual character and timeless look that perfectly captures the spirit of the Faster Sons philosophy.

Dedicated colours and graphics
New graphics have been developed to echo the look of the larger capacity XSR models and reinforce the close family ties of the Sport Heritage line. Gold and silver pinstripes highlight the classic shape of the rounded fuel tank, while the minimalist gold coloured graphic on the sidepanels complements the gold-coloured rims.

The tank, sidepanels and fenders are finished in Historic Black, while the black coloured Deltabox frame, swingarm, upside-down forks and engine covers give a stylish and understated look that perfectly matches the character of this new 125cc motorcycle.

High performance Metzeler Karoo tyres
The XSR125 Legacy’s new spoked wheels are fitted with high performance Metzeler Karoo tyres that are designed to bring out the fun performance of this lightweight Faster Sons model. Their block pattern perfectly complements this new Sport Heritage bike and underlines its ability to deliver an exhilarating ride in a range of situations.

2-piece aluminium muffler cover
XSR Sport Heritage models are famed for their attention to detail and the use of quality components, and the new XSR125 Legacy is no exception. As well as a range of beautifully crafted aluminium brackets and fittings, this lightweight Faster Sons bike is equipped with a 2-piece aluminium muffler cover that reinforces its sporty specification.

Distinctive XSR silhouette
Seen from the side there’s no mistaking the XSR125 Legacy’s bloodline with its strong horizontal flow. The special combination of spoked wheels and upright riding position, as well as its fully exposed mechanical structure and naked good looks are sure to be appreciated by every rider – new or experienced – who knows exactly what they want from their motorcycle.

Class leading 125cc 11kW engine
The XSR125 Legacy is driven by one of the most appreciated and successful engines in the 125cc category. This potent and reliable 125cc 4-valve liquid cooled single cylinder Euro5 compliant powerplant is the same design as used in the MT-125 Hyper Naked and the R-125 Supersport. Producing a full 11kW – the maximum allowable in the A1 license class – this highly acclaimed engine is a strong all round performer.

One of the key technological features is Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system that enables the engine to deliver strong torque at lower engine speeds together with excellent performance at higher speeds. This makes the XSR125 Legacy a great performer in a variety of situations, from fast highway riding through to slower speed back road trips – and the ample torque output also ensures lively acceleration.

37mm upside-down front forks
Featuring a black finish that perfectly matches the bike’s black frame and engine, the XSR125 Legacy’s 37mm upside-down forks form part of a first class specification that is even more impressive considering that this 125cc neo-retro is available at such an affordable price. Whether riding through mountain bends, navigating urban traffic or heading off for a weekend tour, these front forks are built to give confident roadholding together with precision handling.

Strong and lightweight Deltabox frame
First developed for the company’s Grand Prix race bikes, Yamaha’s legendary Deltabox frame ensures precision cornering and confidence-inspiring straight line stability that enable the rider to enjoy the full potential of the best-in-class 11kW engine. With a compact 1.330mm wheelbase and accessible 815mm seat height, XSR riders can expect agile handling together with relaxed ergonomics that make this bike eminently suitable for a wide range of riders – whether starting out, experienced or returning to two-wheels.

Stylish LED lighting
Another example of how the XSR125 Legacy successfully blends timeless retro style with modern technology is the high tech lighting. Featuring a classic circular outer shell with LED position lamp, the main LED headlamp produces a powerful beam for excellent night time visibility – while the compact LED taillight emphasizes the light and elegant profile of the slim and sporty rear end.

“Dunlop has been a wonderful partner with us since we started MotoAmerica in 2015,” said MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey. “This will be our third three-year agreement with Dunlop and that shows the confidence we have in each other going forward. Dunlop uses our series to develop product that ultimately gets passed down to consumers and the tires they provide for our racers continue to get better. With improvement in grip, feel, and durability, lap times drop, our riders get faster and everyone in the series benefits. We’re looking forward to the coming season of racing and our continued relationship with Dunlop.”

“Racing is very important to Dunlop and racing in the MotoAmerica series has proven to be beneficial to the development of our high-performance tires,” said Dunlop Senior Vice President Mike Buckley. “Our design and service teams are passionate about what they do at MotoAmerica races and ultimately what we learn at the track is passed on to the high-performance tires we make for our customers, many of whom are racing fans. We’ve had a great relationship with MotoAmerica since they took over the series in 2015 and we’re happy to be able to continue that for at least another three years. The 2022 season is already off to a great start, and we’re thrilled to be a big part of it.”

Riders for Health has long used Yamaha motorcycles to provide these vital services, making the organisation a natural fit for this partnership as Yamaha looks to live by its ethos of contributing to society and bringing value to people’s lives.

The 20th BMW Motorrad Days on 2 & 3 July in Berlin.

The 20th edition of the BMW Motorrad Days will take place on 2 & 3 July 2022 at the exhibition grounds in Berlin.

Directly after the Pure&Crafted Festival (1 July), the world’s largest BMW Motorrad meeting will attract the international fan community to the German capital for the first time.

“We believe Berlin is the perfect place for the BMW Motorrad Days. As an international city offering a rich cultural experience, a wide range of excursions in the surrounding area and a unique lifestyle, the capital of Germany has everything it takes to make the BMW Motorrad Days even more diverse and attractive,” says Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad. The heart of international BMW motorcycle production has been beating in Berlin for 53 years at the Berlin plant. And almost every BMW motorcycle has Berlin air in its tyres.

In addition to new products, spectacular stunts, test ride opportunities and ride-aways, there will also be a great deal more in store for visitors. Motorcycle fans from all over the world have already noted the event in their calendars as a must-attend event. Visitors from distant countries such as the USA, Japan or Australia, sports, touring and enduro riders, customizing freaks or motorsports enthusiasts will all find their personal highlight at the BMW Motorrad Days. Be it during the day in the extensive grounds between old and new motorbikes or in the evening with live music.

The Streetbike Stunt Show, the Trial Show and the FMX Show push the limits of riding physics. The great tradition of steep wall riders, on the other hand, is revived in the Original Motodrom, the oldest still travelling steep wall in the world. Here, Donald Ganslmeier and his team thunder over the wooden boards on historical motorcycles in breathtaking style. Motorcycle customizing fans are fully catered for in the Wheels Area.

In addition to the large number of test rides on offer featuring the entire product range, you can of course also discover the charming surroundings of Berlin and Brandenburg by motorcycle. Visitors can explore the countryside by taking part in test ride specials and guided enduro tours with local guides. Aspiring motorcyclists who have no driving licence yet can try themselves out on a BMW motorcycle. Enduro taster training sessions will also be available.

Another highlight are the plant tours at the BMW Motorrad plant, which now offer insights into international motorcycle manufacturing for the first time as part of the BMW Motorrad Days.

The extensive trade show and exhibition area reflects the full diversity of BMW Motorrad. In addition to the entire BMW Motorrad product portfolio, visitors can also expect one or two surprises. Around 50 exhibitors will be on site to advise potential customers and to present new ideas and innovative BMW Motorrad related accessories.

Young guests are excellently catered for as well: In the Kids Area there are lots of exciting games and a specially designed Kids Bike Course – an exciting and action-packed weekend is guaranteed.

A new item on the programme is the General Store known from the Pure&Crafted Festival with numerous other exhibitors from the lifestyle sector as well as “The House of Machines” bar featuring the Marshall Live Music Stage.

Everyone dreaming of faraway lands can watch one of the travelogues in the cinema, while motorsport enthusiasts can look forward to seeing the stars of the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team.

The BMW Motorrad Days have long been considered a traditional event and have a permanent place in every biker’s calendar. Justin Bieber X Vespa

What happens when two pop icons get together?

A unique project born to celebrate the spirit of freedom and the passion for style and design through an explosive mix of creativity that brings together coolness, pop culture and contemporary flair

Vespa has always spurred the imagination of artists, stylists and designers around the globe. Over the recent years, big names including Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior and Sean Wotherspoon have coupled their authentic creativity with the unmistakable style of Vespa, developing exclusive brand collections.

This year it is time for an unexpected and exciting collaboration at top levels of the global pop culture: Justin Bieber, an internationally acclaimed music star with millions of fans all over the world, joins up efforts with Vespa to unveil JUSTIN BIEBER X VESPA, a new exclusive Vespa model personally ideated and designed by the singer.

Bieber’s passion for Vespa is well known: “The first time I rode a Vespa was somewhere in Europe, probably either London or Paris. I just remember seeing a Vespa and being like ‘I want to ride one of those’. And I had such a great time, just the wind flying through my hair, the freedom. It was fun”, – comments Justin Bieber.

Glamorous and timeless, the new Vespa designed by Justin Bieber reflects his creativity, always on whenever he dreams up something unique destined to become pure inspiration.

I love Vespa, and to partner with such a classic brand is so cool. Being able to express myself, whether it’s through art, music, visuals, or aesthetics, being able to create something from nothing – it’s a part of me. Ultimately the goal in creating and designing is always to put your own unique spin on things“, said Justin Bieber.

Monochrome is the underlying style feature that distinguishes the new Vespa signed by Bieber.

White color, selected by the singer, passes through all elements of the new Vespa Sprint: from the saddle to the grips to the spokes of the rims. The brand logo and the flames drawn on the body of the vehicle are also tone on tone white; that is the spin the singer wanted to put on the design to embody the creative drive, vibrancy and vigor – the values shared by both Bieber and Vespa.

JUSTIN BIEBER X VESPA is rolled out with classic 50, 125 and 150cc engines, capacities that have made Vespa history, now revamped in full respect of the most recent environmental regulations. The fresh, youthful geometry of the vehicle makes up a light yet protective body while the handlebar, with its unmistakable evocative rectangular headlight, supports an extremely modern full color multifunctional TFT display, in sync with all smartphone functions. The Full-Led lights and the spectacular 12” wheel rims are supreme results of blending style and technology.

An exclusive limited edition is complemented by an equally irresistible accessories collection. A bag, a pair of gloves and a total white helmet with an utter “Justin spin”, the flames, will make the Vespa experience even cooler!

Pre-booking is set to launch on 20th April 2022 to satisfy all Vespa lovers who want to reserve for themselves the first eagerly awaited model units.

An icon that needs no introduction, Kawasaki has been at the forefront of the motorcycle manufacturing industry for decades. Both sneakers are capped off with electroplated lace tips, shoe jewelry and heel pieces, as well as co-branded sock liners. Each pair then comes packaged in a custom box with a printed graphic of the latest Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, filled with tissue paper bearing a printed Kawasaki motorcycle sketch.

AWARD WINNING FILMMAKER EXPLORES 12 COUNTRIES ON TWO WHEELS

Following a cancer diagnosis, award-winning filmmaker Peter Starr found the key to his long-term healthy survival was “living a purposeful life”. Much of his world was centred around motorcycling so he constructed the next part of his life to redefining and reinventing his motorcycling passion by planning to ride in 12 countries where he had never been before, or at least had never ridden a motorcycle there.

Now the renowned film-maker shares those stories in a brilliant publication Motorcycle Traveler.

Starr’s first adventure was to Taiwan in 2011, then further on and off-road trips followed to Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Finland, Poland, Ecuador, Canada, Scotland, Wales/Isle of Man, Romania and Thailand. Being a film maker, he also had considerable experience with a still camera, something that is immediately obvious from the quality of photographs contained in this coffee table large format book.

In this publication, Starr has communicated the marvels and curiosities that await a motorcycle tourist. Beautifully illustrated with photographs that are a fitting compendium to the fluency of the manuscript, in many ways this is a fitting follow-up to Starr’s previous book Taking It To The Limit20 Years of Making Motorcycle Movies, and hopefully the harbinger of many more books to come from the author.

Motorcycle Traveler is accompanied with a free DVD showing clips from many of Starr’s most popular films. The book, with 50 signed copies available, costs £45 and is available from www.mortonsbooks.co.uk
