Finetwork FIM JuniorGP World Championship readies for 25th season to kick-off at Estoril

The 2022 season is ready to ignite as the next generation of Champions takes to the track this weekend.

A new season, new possibilities, and a land of opportunities. Celebrating 25 years of providing the future stars of World Championship action, the 2022 Finetwork FIM JuniorGP™ World Championship fires up this weekend at the Circuito do Estoril, Portugal. In what is one of the most anticipated seasons, there’ll be a fresh feel at the front of all classes as ever, as reigning Champions move on and fast rookies graduate to all classes. Starting this weekend in Portugal and finishing in Spain at the end of October, the 25th season is a mouth-watering prospect.

JuniorGP
Starting with JuniorGP™, there’s plenty of familiar names in the class for 2022. The top four, including reigning Champion Daniel Holgado, all move on from the class and onto the next stage of their careers, meaning the highest placed returnee to the class is Spaniard David Salvador (Laglisse Academy). Two podiums in 2021 left him fifth overall and still chasing a first win. Colombia’s David Alonso (Aspar Junior Team) is the next-best returnee to the class, with the 2020 Hawkers European Talent Cup winner targeting a first win in the class for himself and likewise for his country after two podiums in 2021. The third-best rider who remains in the category from 2021 is Syarifuddin Azman (SIC Racing), the Malaysian being the only race winner on the 2022 grid, whilst all three have FIM Moto3™ World Championship experience under their belt.

Whilst there’re familiar names at the front, a new guard will look to take charge, as bright prospects graduate from the Hawkers ETC. 2021 runner-up Adrian Cruces (Cuna de Campeones) moves up, as do Xabi Zurutuza (Angeluss MTA Team) and Alvaro Carpe (STV – MT Helmet – MSI), all of which were race winners in 2021. Carpe will join from Round 3 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya due to the minimum age limit. Jacob Roulstone (Aspar Junior Team) likewise graduates, the Australian also a race winner in the Hawkers ETC class of 2021; his sole win came at Estoril before he finished with two podiums. In total, there’ll be 17 nationalities on the grid in 2022, of which three will enjoy their first representation. Soma Görbe (Artbox), Torrin Collins (AGR Team) and Facundo Llambias (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0) will fly the flag for Hungary, Canada and Uruguay respectively.

Moto2
The duel in the Moto2™ European Championship will again be fierce as plenty of 2021 protagonists return. German rider Lukas Tulovic (Liqui Moly Intact JuniorGP Team) is one of the biggest names back in the class, as he hopes for a first win in his Moto2™ ECh career after a good few podiums. Xavi Cardelus (Promoracing) also goes in search of a first victory, but there’s plenty of opposition to fend off. Double Moto2™ ECh runner-up and multiple race winner Héctor Garzó (MV Agusta Forward Junior Team) is back, as Tommaso Marcon (MMR) and Marco Tapia (Easyrace Team) also join the class to bring some serious competition. The fight for the Stock crown will also, as ever, be a great race within a race.

ETC
The Hawkers ETC is another class which features some familiar faces, with reigning Champion Maximo Martinez (Team Laglisse Honda) back in action for another season. With three wins last year and finishing four of the last five races on the podium, the 14-year-old will aim to make more history in 2022. The next-best returning rider is Brian Uriarte (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0), with fourth overall last year and one victory. 2021 podium finishers Joel Esteban (Aspar Junior Team) and Alberto Ferrández (Finetwork Mir Junior Team) are back, as is Irish hopeful Casey O’Gorman (VisionTrack Racing Team), the reigning Honda British Talent Cup winner. His teammate is Johnny Garness, who is back in Hawkers ETC after race wins in the BTC at the start of 2022. In all, 21 nationalities from six continents make for a packed field once more in the Hawkers ETC.

The Sunday race schedule for the opening round of JuniorGP™ is as follows:

11:00 – Hawkers ETC Race 1: 16 laps
12:00 – Moto2™ ECh Race 1: 18 laps
13:00 – JuniorGP™: 17 laps

Ducati and Audi together in Sardinia with DesertX and RS Q e-tron

Ducati and Audi together in Sardinia with DesertX and RS Q e-tron for a special event.

The most highly anticipated motorcycle of 2022 and the most surprising rally prototype met in Sardinia for a special event organized in partnership by Ducati and Audi. The new Ducati DesertX and the Audi RS Q e-tron took centre-stage in the first test reserved for the international media, which could also count on the presence of Danilo Petrucci, winner of a stage of the Dakar 2022, and the official Audi drivers/co-drivers Emil Bergkvist, Stéphane Peterhansel, Edouard Boulanger, Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz.

To celebrate this event, the Centro Stile Ducati has created an exclusive livery for the DesertX inspired by that of the RS Q e-tron. This special bike was ridden by Petrucci, who put on a show together with the Sainz/Cruz pairing on a technical off-road track.

Andrea Ferraresi, Centro Stile Ducati Director: “When we saw the RS Q e-tron for the first time, we couldn’t help but imagine it in action among the dunes and rocks together with the DesertX. This event gave us the opportunity to do so and so we decided to create an exclusive livery, inspired by the colours and graphics of the Audi prototype. Seeing cars and motorcycles together off-road is truly a great show. The collaboration between the two brands and between their respective Design Centers is strong and important“.

The DesertX is the model with which the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer enters the mid-displacement enduro segment. The bike is designed to tackle the most demanding off-road and for this reason it is equipped with a 21″ front wheel, 18″ rear wheel, long suspension travel and ample ground clearance. Powered by the 11° Testastretta engine , DesertX guarantees a comfortable, easy and safe ride on every type of journey thanks to the attention paid to ergonomics, careful aerodynamic study and advanced technological equipment.
The safety and performance of the new Ducati model are also guaranteed by the electronic systems, which represent the state of the art in terms of riding assistance. There are 6 Riding Modes available on DesertX (two of which are intended for off-road use: Enduro and Rally), and they work in combination with the 4 Power Modes that modify the power and responsiveness of the engine.

The RS Q e-tron is Audi’s rally prototype to tackle the desert and embodies the purest efficiency. The innovative electric drive with high voltage batteries and energy converter  pushes the limits of what is possible. The RS Q e-tron made its debut in the 2022 Dakar Rally last January and impressed with four stage victories, while in March it achieved his first overall victory at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. Audi factory driver driver Carlos Sainz underlined the importance of the model for the motorsport program of the German manufacturer: “What Audi has achieved with this concept is technically unique and a real benefit for us drivers. The event in Sardinia was great to communicate the benefits of the electric drive. All the media were impressed throughout”.

Sainz, Petrucci and all the Audi drivers were greeted enthusiastically by the press during this event which confirmed the great bond and constant collaboration between Ducati and Audi.

The new DesertX, which since its presentation has met with remarkable success, will be available in all European dealerships in the Ducati network from the end of May. The new model is also available in a 35kW depowered version for A2 license holders.

The time has come for bikers to make their wildest travel dreams come true.

Norton Motorcycles Purchases 55 Classic Motorcycles To Start Heritage Collection

Norton Motorcycles has purchased 55 classic Norton bikes to start its heritage collection.

The collection, which spans from 1916 to 1992, boasts some of the rarest Norton bikes and sidecars ever produced including models such as Model 1 ‘Big four’, the company founder James “Pa” Norton’s favourite bike, and a rare speedway from 1930.

1921 Model 1

A 1968 Norton Atlas Police motorcycle used for Royal Family escorts, which previously rode alongside the Queen, the Queen Mother and Prince Charles is another notable bike that has been acquired.

Norton bought the bikes from single collector, Ian Loram, who has amassed the unique collection since his first classic purchase in the late 90’s.

A small selection of bikes will initially take pride of place in the reception area of the recently opened Norton HQ in Solihull, with bike fans likely to be able to get a glimpse of them in person later in the year.

1929 CJ350

“It is highly unusual for any major manufacturer to have the chance to purchase such a large, high quality, collection that represents the history of your brand, all in one go,” said Robert Hentschel, CEO of Norton Motorcycles.

“When the opportunity arose through Ian, we jumped at the chance to buy the collection and bring 55 classic motorcycles home.

“Norton has a near 125-year history that is unrivalled in the motorcycle world – and one we want to celebrate now and in the future. While it’s a hugely exciting time for us looking ahead with the recent opening of a new factory, an exciting product road map and the £100 million investment from TVS, it’s vital that we continue to celebrate the great products of our past because they will impact and steer our future.”

1929 JE350

Ian Loram added: “I started collecting Norton Motorcycles in the late 90’s and would take every approach to not miss an opportunity to buy a rare Norton on sale. So many of the bikes hold a very special memory but it’s now a collection for the headquarters to enjoy.

“James “Pa” Norton always strived to innovate and having my facility tour during the handover of the collection, I was filled with a wonderful sense that Pa would be very proud of what is being done in his name.”

1930 DT Speedway

Seven rare Norton’s to get excited about

  1. The newly purchased line-up contains the 1921 Model 1. This was a favourite of Norton founder, James “Pa” Norton, who rode a 633cc Big Four combination 3,000 miles across Africa in 1921.
  2. Just one of 53 built by Norton for speedway racing, the 1930 DT with a 500cc twin port and ¾ gallon fuel tank. Norton loaned several DT’s to established riders. This precise model was loaned to Oliver Langton for speedway racing.
  3. The road-going version 1990 Norton F1 Rotary, based on the RCW588 racing motorcycle.
  4. Adding to the collection includes the 1929 CJ350 designed by Walter Moore, which saw under 200 models produced.
  5. Norton’s historic DNA is renowned for featherbed frames, used on numerous models by Norton for close to 20 years. The collection features British racing motorcycles, such as the 1950 Norton Manx on a featherbed frame and style modification for racing.
  6. With only six remaining in the world, the extremely rare saddle tank racing styled 1929 JE350.
  7. A fully restored 500cc 1938 Clubman International.

2023 KX250 increases available power while decreasing lap times

A competition reference machine, the Kawasaki KX250 is a pivotal bike in the Kawasaki range appealing to youth, intermediate, national and full class MX2 riders; each with their own special wants and needs. For 2023, the Kawasaki engineers have absorbed feedback from AMA Supercross, the MX2 class in the MXGP paddock and, closer to home, the All-Japan Motocross Championship. And the distillation of all that feedback has produced a machine that will ably answer the needs of its diverse customer base.

Chief among many changes are those in the engine group. Within the cylinder head a narrower pitch for the intake valves (37 mm to 35.5 mm), coupled with increased clearance at the valve seats, delivers increased cylinder-filling efficiency and improved combustion for increased peak performance. And to accurately fill that cylinder, the downdraft style intake duct is straighter plus the upstream injector is repositioned from above to below the duct.  These changes further contribute to increased cylinder-filling efficiency which adds to peak performance. In terms of the valves themselves, they are smaller (ø32 mm to ø31 mm) contributing to cylinder-head/valve-seat reliability while enabling the tighter valve pitch while the piston crown is revised to match the valve size and pitch changes.

Aside from the greater engine performance due to these new efficiencies a longer exhaust header pipe (457 mm to 557 mm) offers increased low-mid range torque while the Akashi engineers also ensured that advanced ignition timing matches the engine changes. In terms of power feeling, a new magneto rotor with an increased moment of inertia (9.5 kg·cm2 to 10.0 kg·cm2) contributes to a more racer-friendly power delivery.

In terms of gears, ratios three, four, five and six remain the same but a longer first gear is introduced thanks to feedback from AMA Supercross and the second gear is also modified to make a smoother transition between first and third.

All Japan Motocross Championship experience resulted in changes to the front fork internals to deliver firmer compression damping that contributes to increased off-road performance without sacrificing ride comfort. While the fork spring rate itself is unchanged, a revised oil height contributes to optimised overall spring characteristics. The rear suspension now features firmer compression damping contributing to increased off-road performance without sacrificing ride comfort.

Other chassis upgrades include the adoption of a wider rear tyre for 2023 in the form of Dunlop’s MX33 110/90-19 to compared to the 100/90-19 used last year while the footpegs are 5 mm wider (front-to-rear) and positioned 3 mm rearward to offer excellent grip, superb feel making it easier to weight the pegs plus they are lighter too.

Wise tuners will tell you that gradual refinement and upgrades that integrate seamlessly are often the route to racing success and that is just the route that Kawasaki takes for its quarter litre race class machine. Useable power, considered engine and chassis upgrades plus genuine podium potential, it’s got to be the new 2023 KX250 from Kawasaki.

Prices and availability will be confirmed soon.

Kawasaki unveils 2023 off road range

Covering the widest spectrum of off-road sport and fun riding, the 2023 Kawasaki off-road motorcycle range has just been announced. Catering for the needs of professional podium chasers, committed enduro riders, enthusiastic weekend competitors and those just starting on two-wheels, the range is certainly comprehensive.

KX65

Entry level and first championship riders will enjoy the KLX110R and KX65 respectively with the four-stroke KLX employing a 4-speed transmission with automatic clutch for stall-free shifting, it is the ideal machine to learn the craft of off-road riding on while the two-stroke KX65 is the stuff of legends, having won more races and championships than any proud father has had time to put up trophy shelves.

KX85

Further up the capacity scale – and sticking with the two-stroke theme – are the small and large wheel KX85 machines. They are liquid-cooled and feature Kawasaki’s Uni-Trak suspension while benefiting from constant refinement keeping them competitive and reliable. And that reliability and durability is something that Kawasaki owners report back on often. No use being fast one day and in the garage with a stripped down, unreliable bike the next weekend. It’s consistency that wins Championships.

KX450

At the top end of the range is the mighty KX450, the most powerful production MX machine Kawasaki has ever manufactured. Created to dominate in the upper echelons of off-road sport, the mighty KX450 continues to carve a fearsome reputation heading up an impressive range of off-road machines.

In terms of enduro style machines, the successful KX450X and KX250X feature boldly in the new season range both ready to attack Hare & Hound style events plus organised enduro events that allow such machines to compete.

A new off-road season is always something to welcome and Kawasaki dealers across Europe are looking forward to answering the riding needs of a diverse audience. The green team is ready for the good times ahead in 2023 and prepared to do anything it takes to help Kawasaki riders achieve the success they deserve.

Prices and availability will be confirmed soon.

Brandon Paasch was honoured with a commemorative plaque on Triumph’s Avenue of Legends at its global HQ and Factory Visitor Experience, Hinckley, UK, to celebrate his fantastic Daytona 200 win.

On 12th March 2022 Brandon Paasch made Triumph history by taking an outstanding win at the Daytona 200 on board the Street Triple 765 RS for the TOBC Triumph racing team. The
incredible race culminated in a thrilling victory as he drafted the competition out of the very last corner to win by just .007 seconds.

This victory represented the very first Daytona 200 win for the Street Triple 765, and once again proved the performance and reliability credentials of Triumph’s class leading sports performance middleweight, which, combined with Brandon’s outstanding skills, contributed to writing another chapter of Triumph’s iconic Daytona racing history.

This milestone is now immortalised on Triumph’s Avenue of Legends, which can be walked by every visitor to the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience.

Brandon Paasch – 2022 Daytona 200 Winner: “I am super pumped to have won the Daytona 200 for a second time, back-to-back. It’s very special for me as it’s a very short list of legendary riders who have accomplished that. Now I am aiming to become the only rider to do it three times in a row. I am very thankful to Triumph for accepting me into their Avenue of Legends. I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done for me these past two years, and I hope to have a long lasting relationship with the Triumph brand.”

Steve Sargent – Triumph Chief Product Officer: “The Avenue of Legends is a mark of respect to those inspirational people who have pushed the boundaries to help make Triumph the brand it is today, and we are delighted to welcome Brandon Paasch to that exclusive group. Trio of LS2 Challenger Helmet graphics

Developed with LS2’s MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 riders, the Challenger Carbon combines the latest race technology with first class safety and practicality for road riding.

There are three new colour options for 2022;

  1. One of two new ‘Alloy’ graphics combines Solid Carbon, luxurious titanium/chrome overlays and splashes of orange, that are striking in their own right, but would also complement colours found on many bikes.
  2. The sporty White/Blue/Red ‘Alloy’ option looks the part with a wide variety of motorcycles using that colour combination.
  3. ‘Fold’ – the third new graphic – will definitely draw attention, with its eye-catching Hi-Vis Yellow highlights.

In all colour options, the Challenger C’s 100% high-grade wide weave carbon fibre shell offers high penetration resistance and energy dispersion, yet weighs just 1350 grams. As you’d expect, it’s both ACU Gold and ECE 22.05 certified for track and road use.

The shell comes in three outer sizes, for the smallest, lightest possible helmet in each fitment range, and has a long-oval shape to follow the natural contour of the head.

A quick-release, wide aperture visor comes with a Pinlock Max Vision Anti Fog System as standard and there’s a flip-down internal sun visor too.

Dynamic Flow-through Ventilation keeps the wearer cool and comfortable, while the breathable, hypoallergenic liner comes with Emergency Release System cheek pads.

The LS2 Challenger Carbon is available in sizes XXS – 3XL and retails at £329.99 for the new graphics. Prices start at £299.99 for the ‘Solid’ Carbon option.

It comes complete with High Quality Bag, Pinlock Max Vision, Tinted Visor, Reflective Stickers and an Air Bag Support.

Stafford Bike Show Takes Podium Position With World Exclusives!

THOUSANDS OF showgoers, including a Hollywood star, were out in the post-lockdown sunshine at the Stafford County Showground over the weekend of April 23 – 24 to celebrate all things motorbikes… and there was plenty to celebrate.

The International Classic MotorCycle Show always has loads to see and do, and this year was no different as the crowds packed in to see bikes, club stands, trade stands, world exclusives, book launches, live trails, firing-up area, Bonhams’ auction, the competition hall… and more special guests than you could shake a stick at!

Perhaps the most notable display was the world exclusive Mike Hailwood exhibit, featuring never-before-seen family memorabilia of the former champion. Guests were able to view these heirlooms, from his 1978 TT winner’s Dunlop cap through to his George Medal, awarded when Mike rescued Clay Regazzoni from his burning BRM at the South African Formula 1 GP. Talking of awards and winners, the class of 1978, which consisted of Alex George, Ian Richards, Phil Read and Chas Mortimer, were on stage across the weekend giving first-hand accounts of their racing careers and inside stories into the motorbike racing scene.

The Bonhams Auction was particularly nail biting with a very special ex-Reg Barton, Dick Knight, 1929 Brough Superior 996cc SS100 Alpine Grand Sport Sprint Special which sold for a staggering £220,000! And showgoers might also have even seen an A-list celebrity or two. Jason Momoa, best known as DC superhero Aquaman, was also there. Being a keen motorcycle enthusiast, Jason perused the show and examined the lots in the Bonhams Auction.

Event organiser Nick Mowbray said: “It was a brilliant weekend! We have received marvellous feedback from visitors and traders alike. The addition of the Hailwood display and the ‘Class of 78’ added something very special to a tried-and-tested format.”

NEW SW-Motech Variable Bar Backs

Dial-in day-long comfort with SW-Motech’s new Variable Bar Backs, which allow handlebars to be set to seven different positions in seconds.

Bringing welcome relief from ‘one size fits all’ riding positions, Bar Backs allow handlebars to be pulled back or moved forwards by up to 35 mm – in 5 mm increments – so riders of different shapes and sizes can find their most comfortable position.

They also enable riders to adjust the bars to suit sport, touring and off-road riding.

Unlike fixed ‘up and overs’ or risers, the adjustment allows fine tuning of the upper body position, reducing aches and pains in the back, shoulders and wrist – particularly problematic on longer journeys.

Bar backs also come with a choice of 25, 28 or 30mm of rise for added comfort.

There’s no need to remove and remount the bars, or the Bar Backs themselves, to adjust: simply loosen the allen-key fixing, slide the handlebars to the required position and retighten to secure. Each 5mm increment is engraved into the side, so positioning can be clearly seen.

Their clever design means even the maximum amount of movement won’t affect steering or overstretch cables and hoses – or require the buying and fitting of replacements.

CNC-milled from high-strength aluminium alloy and anodized in a choice of Black, Silver and Anthracite finishes, they fit pretty much any bike with regular handlebar clamps and are available for 22, 28 and 32 mm diameter bars.

SW-Motech Variable Bar Backs retail at £146.88 per pair including VAT.

MV Agusta Releases Second Streetwear Capsule Collection, “Logo Level 2”

The latest drop features the brand’s logo as the leading design theme, with new colours and a special tribute to MV Agusta’s all-times hero and motorcycling legend Giacomo Agostini.

After the successful launch of Logo Level 1 last July, MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. announces the release of the second drop of its branded streetwear apparel collection, Logo Level 2. As with the first capsule collection, the theme of this release revolves around the iconic MV Agusta logo, with new colours and the addition of a special tribute to Giacomo Agostini, the 15-times World Champion motorcycling legend. LL2 aims to appeal to a wide, streetwise and discerning audience of younger-generation bikers and non-bikers. The collection will be found on MV Agusta’s official online store https://mvagusta.store/pages/collection-logo-level-2 and at street-fashion garment stores around the world.

Hoodies, T-shirts and long-sleeves tops proudly sport the MV Agusta logo, while the quilted jacket captures the attention thanks to its diamond pattern evoking the world of racing and the glam embroideries on both the front and the back – without doubt the star of the collection.

This second capsule also includes a street-feel track-suit, featuring the “extended version” of the logo, with it’s oversize fit and its beyond-cool colour scheme.

Freshest in the LL2 drop is the velvet outfit dedicated MV Agusta’s riding hero, Giacomo Agostini. With its giant AGO on the back and the brand logo on the front, the vintage feel of this look is nicely offset by a very contemporary cut.

All the items in the collection are made in Italy and handcrafted with the same passion and attention to detail that mark the great MV Agusta tradition.

Total Terrain Domination: Introducing The 2023 KTM Enduro Range

The 2023 KTM Enduro model range tears onto the trails with decades of championship-winning experience at the helm, bringing together a fresh and dynamic combination of race-bred performance, rider-focused ergonomics, and cutting-edge technology.

KTM has dominated Enduro competition for a number of decades, with the newest iteration of the 2023 KTM EXC and EXC-F models set to continue the trend. Boasting an updated design, orange-coated Chromoly steel frame, race-proven WP XPLOR suspension at each end, and real READY TO RACE credentials, the 2023 KTM Enduro range is the one to beat.

Offering the most extensive READY TO RACE competition Enduro lineup on the market, starting with the enduro underdog KTM 150 EXC 2-Stroke and topping out with the class-leading power KTM 500 EXC-F 4-Stroke, the 2023 KTM Enduro range caters to all riders and terrains.

New for 2023, an all-new graphic design and white, purple and orange colour scheme come together into a seamlessly blended palette. This colour scheme was specifically chosen by the designers to pay homage to the early ‘90s enduro models, setting the 2023 KTM Enduro range apart from anything else on the trails.

The looks are further emphasised with the use of a race-inspired orange-coated Chromoly steel frame. Not only does this echo the styling on full-factory race machines but provides the perfect backbone to set off the 2023 graphics pack.

In terms of engines, the 2-Stroke model range once again takes its place and is the leader in the paddock, making use of KTM’s patented Transfer Port Injection (TPI) technology. Not only has this ensured fewer emissions and fuel consumption but provides smooth and strong power delivery from the bottom right through to the top end of the rev-range.

The 4-Stroke model range provides the most concise offering of models, starting with the KTM 250 EXC-F and KTM 350 EXC-F and topping out with the powerhouses KTM 450 EXC-F and KTM 500 EXC-F. All models in the 4-Stroke range benefit from class-winning engines, engineered to deliver massive torque down low with class-leading power delivery at higher RPMs.

These are flanked by the ever-popular KTM EXC SIX DAYS range, which offers a special tribute to the upcoming 2022 FIM International Six Days Enduro in France, combining the very latest in innovation with an extensive list of race-derived parts as standard.

Every motorcycle in the range gets fully adjustable WP XPLOR suspension as standard, with the advantage of a Progressive Damping System (PDS) on the rear. The PDS layout – a staple across KTM EXC and EXC-F models, offers lower maintenance due to fewer moving parts, but provides more ground clearance, with less chance of hooking up when climbing logs or rocks.

As always, and thanks to KTM’s global network of dealers, the availability of support and parts needed to compete at the highest level are easily accessible, with the added availability of dedicated KTM PowerWear and KTM PowerParts designed to allow for the highest levels of performance, protection, and mobility for all offroad riders and racers.

The 2023 KTM Enduro range is derived from years at the top level of offroad racing and brings together a dynamic combination of race-bred performance, ergonomics and technology ready to tackle any terrain.

2023 KTM EXC and EXC-F models will be landing at dealer floors from May 2022, with full details available here.

Motorcycle Delivery Van That Failed To Deliver

Motorcycle delivery van that failed to deliver for its designers for sale with Silverstone auctions on may 14th.

“Probably the most interesting bike I’ve ever dealt with, I love it.” Mark Bryan, Silverstone Auctions

Mark Bryan of Silverstone Auctions on the By Van, a short-lived experiment in deliveries

Featured on American Pickers, the cult reality TV show, this Turner By-Van was launched by the Turner Manufacturing Company in the late 1940s under the new “Light Delivery Vehicles” banner as an alternative to a van for smaller businesses and sole traders. It is now for sale with ‘No Reserve’ at Silverstone Auctions on May14th at The Devitt MCN Festival of Motorcycling.

Mark Bryan of Silverstone Auctions says: “The engine turns with compression but will need restoring or recommissioning. But as it is being auctioned at ‘No Reserve’ it could provide one of the biggest surprises in the sale. Probably the most interesting bike I’ve ever dealt with, I love it”

The machine is powered by a Turner Tiger 168cc two-stroke engine driving the front wheel via a two-speed gearbox. But not every idea is commercially viable and this one joined many other clever ideas in the dustbin of automotive history, making it today one of the most collectible of motorcycling items.

1950 Turner By-Van 168cc – No Reserve – 20 recorded miles
Sold at a price of £120 in the 1950s with a claimed 30mph, it never really took off and subsequently production ceased with only a handful produced. This example appears to have never been registered and shows just 20 recorded miles. It has been in the same family ownership for the last 40 years and is in original and unrestored condition.

The American Pickers show follows antique and collectible ‘pickers’ Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, who travel around the United States and abroad, now and then, to buy or “pick” various items for resale, for clients, or for their personal collections. This very rare By-Van was featured on an episode of the show where Mike and Frank on the hunt here in the UK, tried to buy it.

More auction news can be found on our dedicated page here: https://superbike-news.co.uk/category/industry-news/auctions/ For more information on Silverstone Auctions head to the official website: silverstoneauctions.com/
