BikeTrac Celebrate a Decade of Success With New 0% Finance Offer

BikeTrac, the leading and longest established dedicated motorcycle tracking company has announced a new 0% finance offer as part of its 10 year birthday celebrations.

Launched in 2009 by a group of motorcycle enthusiasts working in automotive technology, BikeTrac was the first truly dedicated tracking system for motorcycles, with its feature-rich technology proven still ten years on thanks to a recovery rate still above 90%.

Celebrating this important milestone, the Silverstone-based company has announced a unique 0% finance offer, making it now even easier for riders to protect their machines with what has become renowned as one of the most effective security solutions available.

BikeTrac’s Bill Taylor commented, “When we launched in 2009, tracking technology was seen as somewhat of a luxury and more of a gadget. Ten years on and we are extremely pleased to see such wide adoption of the technology thanks to the great products on the market not only from ourselves, but our competitors too. The statistics speak for themselves, with BikeTrac responsible for recovering over 1000 machines with a value of over £9m.

“While general adoption of tracking is far greater now, the price point of the technology can still be considered as a barrier, and so we are absolutely delighted to be able to offer a 0% finance offer via participating dealers, making it the easiest it’s ever been to protect your pride and joy”.

Being rolled out across BikeTrac’s dealer network, customers will be able to spread the cost of the unit, fitment and subscription over the 0% finance offer, for 12 months. Monthly payments can be as little as £39.

Officially rolling-out across participating BikeTrac dealers this month, customers can find their nearest dealer by visiting the dealer finder area at www.biketrac.co.uk, while also able to select from the authorised list of mobile installers too.

BikeTrac celebrate a decade

BikeTrac, the leading and longest established dedicated UK motorcycle tracking company is celebrating 10 years in the market this December, acknowledging the milestone by bringing a new 0% finance option for dealers to utilise and a subscription commission programme too.

Having launched the 0% offer at the recent Motorcycle Live event at the NEC in Birmingham, the BikeTrac team now aim to make tracking more accessible to customers, while potentially making the sales process easier for its dealers without losing out on margin.

BikeTrac’s Bill Taylor, explained, “When we began in 2009, tracking technology was seen as a luxury and often a difficult sale for dealers. While public perception has changed dramatically thanks to the many high profile success stories, the cost of the technology can still seem prohibitive to some. With this new finance offer, we’re confident that by spreading the unit cost, fitment and subscription with no interest, dealers will be able to close the sale much easier.”

On top of the new finance product, BikeTrac is also delighted to announce a new subscription commission initiative for dealers and installers, launching in the spring of 2020.

Taylor continued, “The process for this new programme is very simple, effectively rewarding dealers for customer subscriptions taken out on new units that have been supplied and fitted by them, as well as subsequent subscription renewals too. We’ve developed a very simple automated system for us to record valid subscriptions against dealer accounts, effectively rewarding dealers for years to come after the initial sale.”

With plans to launch the dealer login area next spring, participating dealers will be able to check the credits in their account, withdraw or offset against new stock, offering another revenue stream from BikeTrac.

As BikeTrac enters its second decade, the team based at Silverstone in Northamptonshire is proud to have played their part in the fight against bike theft, now responsible for more than 1000 + recoveries, totalling over £9m worth of machines recovered. On top of this, the team has launched the innovative HARD Security range, as well a unique rider Medical Kit too.

BikeTrac have open points across the UK for dealers and installers and welcome the opportunity to speak with any interested parties.

For further information, interested dealers should contact Bill Taylor on 01327 317980 or email bill@biketrac.co.uk.

KOVIX Motorcycle Security Beats Bike Thieves

Bike thieves attempting to steal a scooter in Hull were foiled thanks to a KOVIX alarmed chain lock, which resisted attacks from three different heavy duty cutting tools.

Starting with a blow torch, the thieves tried to breach the cast steel lock casing. When that failed, they took an angle grinder to one of the 10mm chain links, without success. Finally they resorted to bolt-croppers, but these merely dented the chain link, without making a serious impression.

Incredibly the 120db alarm still worked after the onslaught and the owner was so impressed that he returned to the shop where he purchased the lock to buy a replacement.

The Metropolitan Police advise riders to use two or more security devices to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of bike theft and, by combining a deafening alarm siren with a high specification lock & chain, the KOVIX KCL10-150 is a formidable double-act.

Its 1.5M long hexagonal chain has 10 mm diameter hardened steel links, which are highly resistant to cutting and sawing, and the lock mechanism has a stainless steel case and key barrel, with a hardened steel lock pin, so it is equally tough and durable. The 120db alarm has shock and movement sensors and is powered by a long-life lithium battery.

KOVIX design and manufacture a wide range of intelligent security products in their own factory, giving them total control over specification and quality. Prices start at just £19.99 for a mini disc lock; the 1.5M alarmed chain lock is £124.99 including vat. Piaggio Group And TRACKER Network UK Work To Help Customers Beat Winter Bike Thieves

Long dark nights present new opportunities for bike thieves, with thefts spiking in the winter months. Piaggio & C. S.p.A. (Piaggio Group) and its Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi retailers across the UK are helping buyers of all Piaggio Group products, including the Vespa GTS 300, Piaggio Beverly 300, Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 and Aprilia’s range of 125cc models protect their purchase with access to vehicle tracking units from the UK’s leading stolen vehicle recovery expert (SVR), TRACKER.

By partnering with TRACKER, Piaggio Group customers will benefit from the peace of mind that comes with its proven VHF technology. In combination with traditional security precautions, TRACKER contributes significantly to a robust defence against theft and ensures a greater chance of recovery should an owner become the victim of unscrupulous criminal activity.

A Piaggio customer in Esher, Surrey, recently learned first-hand of how effective the TRACKER device is when his Piaggio Beverly 300 was stolen from his driveway one evening. It was only when he received an alert from TRACKER that he realised his bike, worth over £5,000, was missing.

Commenting on the theft, the customer said: “I received a text from TRACKER to alert me to some unusual movement of my Piaggio scooter, which I thought was on my driveway. I opened the curtain only to discover that it was gone. I immediately called the police and TRACKER, and within one hour my bike was located half a mile away from my house. Although some of the modifications and accessories had been stolen from the bike, I was able to take it home with me that night. If I hadn’t had a TRACKER device fitted, there is no doubt that I would never have seen the bike again.”

Clive Wain, Head of Police Liaison at TRACKER, comments: “Unfortunately, bike theft escalates in autumn and winter, which means owners need to be extra vigilant. Our partnership with Piaggio and Vespa means new owners benefit from TRACKER’s stolen vehicle recovery systems. A tracking device won’t stop a scooter from being stolen, but it significantly increases the chances of police finding and recovering it.”

TRACKER’s technology allows a signal to be transmitted, received & tracked regardless of location.

Simon Greenacre, Marketing Communications Coordinator for Piaggio in the UK, said, “Hearing about a stolen motorcycle or scooter is always unpleasant news but, in this case, our partnership with TRACKER has demonstrated that it is possible to fight back against thieves and get a positive result. This example of how TRACKER’s leading technology can offer peace of mind and protection for our customers is important because working together is a key strategy in defeating the criminals.”

BikeTrac-Celebrates-1000-Recoveries

We are delighted  to announce reaching a significant milestone off the back of a busy summer of recoveries, having now recovered more than 1000 customer’s machines since launch.

Entering the motorcycle market in 2009, we have strived to become one of the most highly regarded automotive tracking products, thanks to our dedicated approach to motorcycle security with the development of proven multi-tier technology.

Benefitting from GPS, GPRS, GSM and RF, BikeTrac the first unit to offer such technology in a dedicated motorcycle device, allowing our team to not only track down stolen motorcycles and  scooters, but be able to assist in proactive recoveries, where only Radio Frequency (RF) could offer detailed location information.

Sales Director,  Bill Taylor explained, “When we began developing our system, we knew that we had to make sure our tech worked specifically for motorcycles. At the time, others offered GPS, GPRS and GSM, but RF was something that other devices didn’t. This was crucial in our minds because it allowed us to work closer with the authorities to prove we know where the stolen bike is; it’s a big reason why we’ve hit the magic 1000.”

With BikeTrac’s RF function deployed, the location of any stolen bike is much more precise, enabling those on scene to obtain a search warrant much easier, be it a block of garages, lock-up or even sometimes inside a dwelling.

While our milestone is recorded over the last nine years, motorcycle theft still shows no signs of slowing, with our team recording their busiest ever August, with over 29 bikes reunited with their owners; sadly not a statistic that can be said for machines that aren’t equipped.

On top of security, we also offer other useful functions, from downloadable and shareable routes, to service reminders, live battery voltage information and even a ‘bike down’ feature, should a motorcycle have a topple over. On top of this, current subscribers also benefit from ‘BikeTrac Advantage’, giving customers discounts from chosen partners, ranging from track days to earplugs, to cleaning products.

All of BikeTrac’s functions and benefits can be accessed online, with a dedicated App also available too.

BikeTrac has a recommended retail price of £299 with subscription starting from £9.99 per month, plus fitment, with 1, 2 & 3 year options too – Click Here

Honda Motorcycles UK has joined forces with Datatool in the first partnership of its kind to offer tracking equipment fitted free-of-charge to riders of every single on-road Honda motorcycle. Available on purchases from Monday 2nd July 2018*, the initiative is part of Honda’s ongoing commitment to advance motorcycle safety and security.

New Honda Motorcycle customers will have the option of receiving Datatool’s innovative Thatcham-approved tracking solution – TrakKING Adventure system, supplied and fitted at no extra cost by Honda dealerships. Once activated, the TrakKING Adventure software allows riders to record and review their routes with friends online and via the free iOS or Android smartphone apps.

This mapping technology and the tracking capability covers the whole of Western Europe, allowing Honda owners to take their bikes abroad with complete peace of mind.

The UK’s top-selling motorcycle brand, Honda has thrown its support behind the recently-announced MCIA Secured** initiative and is keen to highlight the role that manufacturers can play in ensuring riders have access to the tools which will keep them and their bikes safe.

As well as being Thatcham Quality Assured, TrakKING Adventure is also accredited as a Police ‘Secured by Design’ product, which means it meets the high standards set by police forces around the UK to reduce and prevent crime.

Neil Fletcher, Head of Motorcycles at Honda UK, said: “This ground-breaking safety and security initiative is a long-term Honda commitment to ensuring peace of mind for riders of Honda’s on-road range.

“Fitting a tracking device such as TrakKING Adventure is a significant deterrent, looked on favourably by insurance companies and can lead to around 90% of bikes being returned to their owner if they are unfortunate enough to be stolen. For riders, dealers and insurers, it’s a win-win scenario, speeding up the process of getting back on the road and ensuring customers retain their Honda motorcycle.”

Dave Plummer, Datatool Brand Manager at Scorpion Automotive, commented: “Tracking technology is increasingly important for riders looking to protect their motorcycle or scooter, particularly within urban areas. It’s an incredibly positive step from Honda UK to commit to providing our TrakKING Adventure hardware to its customers free-of-charge. We’re keen to work together to develop the product to meet the needs of Honda riders throughout the UK.”

Tony Campbell, CEO at The MCIA, added: “Following the announcement of the MCIA Secured scheme due to be rolled out over the coming months, it is great news to see Honda take this important step in fighting Motorcycle & Scooter Theft which has become a growing problem in recent years. The MCIA Secured programme has been introduced to make it clear to customers which anti-theft security is fitted as standard to New Motorcycles and Scooters and at the same time encourage manufacturers to invest more in security for the customer. The MCIA and Industry has been working tirelessly hard with Government and Authority to tackle the problem of Theft and therefore we are extremely pleased to see Honda introduce TrakKING as a standard fit security item on all new Honda’s”.

Datatool TrakKING Adventure is available on all new Honda scooters and motorcycles sold after Monday, 2nd July 2018. Honda dealers are also offering discounted purchase and installation prices for existing owners, typically £349 fitted. Monthly subscription costs come in at less than £10 per month, with the option to pay for the year upfront.

Suzuki proud to be sole manufacturer fitting MASTER security kits to 125cc machines

Suzuki is proud to be the only manufacturer fitting the industry-standard, Datatag MASTER security scheme kits to its 125cc machinery, including the brand new GSX-R125 and GSX-S125.

The GSX-R125 and GSX-S125 join the Burgman 125, VanVan 125, and Address 110 in Suzuki’s 125cc-and-below range, with the Japanese brand setting itself apart from its competitors as the only major manufacturer fitting MASTER security kits to bikes in this sector of the market.

The MASTER security scheme is already proven to greatly reduce the risk of motorcycle theft, thanks to the tagging and marking of major components, making the identification of stolen motorcycles much easier. Featuring state of the art technology, the scheme includes new ‘stealth’ UV etching, Datatag transponders, and Datadot technology, as well as registration on a secure, Police-approved database.

Suzuki GB marketing manager, Rob Cooper, commented, “The reduction of bike theft is something that we at Suzuki are heavily committed to and want to help achieve. Bike theft is a big factor in people leaving motorcycling for good, when owners simply don’t replace their stolen machine. We want to help owners and riders of all of our models be safer and protect their pride and joy, whether that’s a GSX-R1000, V-Strom 650, or a smaller capacity model, such as the new GSX-R125 and GSX-S125. A machine’s capacity will make no difference to an opportunist thief, so it makes no difference to us; we want to help protect all of our bikes and customers, and we’re very proud to be the only major manufacturer taking this approach.”

Simple Scooter Security from Vespa

A handlebar lock is a simple, yet highly effective, security system, which is always available, wherever you go, because it is permanently attached to the scooter.

One end of the armour-plated cable is fixed to a bracket beneath the seat and the other can be locked to the handlebar in a few seconds, preventing the scooter from being ridden or wheeled away.

When not in use, it is fixed neatly between the footrest and seat, so it doesn’t occupy space in the compartment under the seat or in the top box.

Unlike traditional chain locks, which are secured through the wheels, the handlebar lock is much cleaner to use too.

A 1.0 metre extension cable is also available, should the rider wish to secure the scooter to a lamp post, railings or another anchor point.

Two versions are offered in sizes to fit most current models from Vespa and Piaggio.

Retail prices for the standard handlebar lock start at £47.99 including VAT.

The luxury handlebar lock offers the highest level of security and comes with an STS locking system, anti-drill coating, 7 mm hardened steel (carbo-nitride) joints, stainless steel internal cable and anti-leverage mounting bracket. Prices start at £126.99.

The 1.0m extension cable sells for £45.99. All prices include VAT.

Datatool S4 Red Series Alarm Safety Recall

Scorpion Automotive Ltd, owner of the Datatool brand has today announced an important Safety Recall on the Datatool S4 Red series alarm.

As part of the ongoing product evaluation, it has become apparent that a limited number of Datatool S4 Red alarm, also sold as the Triumph Approved Accessory Alarm system, may suffer operational issues which ultimately lead to the motorcycle becoming immobilised.

In light of the safety implications and potential for customer dissatisfaction, Scorpion Automotive have decided to undertake a recall campaign to replace all affected units free of charge.

This safety recall is being monitored by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) who are the government agency responsible for these matters.

Investigation has shown that this is not normally an issue that suddenly becomes apparent, early symptoms include the alarm becoming difficult to disarm, the alarm making unexpected bleeps when arming / disarming or the alarm LED glowing faintly when the alarm is disarmed.

Customers are asked to check the alarm serial number as detailed on their installation certificate or on the underside of the alarm itself and refer to the following identification procedure. If an alarm system has been replaced previously under warranty please make sure to check the serial number of the later alarm.

Any owners with potentially affected alarms should visit www.datatool.co.uk/service to verify if their alarm is included in this campaign and if applicable to provide their details to Datatool in order for arrangements to be made for the alarm to be replaced.

It is important to note that Datatool are recommending to customers that if their alarm is already exhibiting any of the symptoms detailed above that they do not ride their motorcycle.

For those owners without internet access you can identify an affected alarm using the process below:

How to Identify An Affected Unit:

Step 1 – Identify the serial number

The serial number consists of two 8 digit numbers separated by a hyphen e.g. 02000140-31150001

The first 8 digit number before the hyphen indicates the alarm product code, in the above example 02000140. The second 8 digit code after the hyphen is the production sequence number, in the above example 31150001.

The Datatool S4 Red product code is 02000140, the Triumph branded alarm product code is 02000240.

Please note: No other alarm systems are included in this recall campaign.

Step 2 – Identify the year of production

The 3rd and 4th digits of the production sequence number after the hyphen indicate the year of production.

Example: 02000140-31150001 would be an alarm manufactured in 2015

Only certain alarms produced between 2013 and 2016 are subject to replacement so if your alarm has anything other than 13, 14, 15 or 16 as the 3rd and 4th digits this recall campaign does not apply.

Step 3 – Identify the week of production

The first two digits of the production sequence number identify the week of production.

Example: 02000140-31150001 would be an alarm manufactured in week 31 of 2015

The applicable production ranges are;

2013 – week 13 to 50

2014 – all alarms applicable, week 01 to 51

2015 – all alarms applicable, week 01 to 51

2016 – week 01 to 08

Customers who require further information should email service@datatool.co.uk or call 01257 249928 during office hours.

Secure your ’64!

Your shiny new 64 plate bike is ready, you can’t wait to ride it and the local thief can’t wait to steal it…It’s tucked up in your garage looking lovely but how soundly will you sleep tonight?

The likelihood is that your new bike only has a limited level of security as standard. It’s probably security marked with the industry approved ‘MASTER Scheme’ and it possibly has a transponder key immobiliser which may or may not be Thatcham approved. Many new bikes either don’t have immobilisers or even if they do, they are not approved to the industry recognised Thatcham standard. You can check your bike on the Thatcham approval list at: http://www.thatcham.org/files/pdf/compliance.pdf

It’s time to assess your new motorcycle. Check through its security measures and start planning a layered approach to your bike’s security. From the simple things like ensuring you always use a visible deterrent such as the Datatool Croc Lock  and investing in an aftermarket Datatool Alarm or TrakKING GPS/GSM tracking system will definitely help that first night’s sleep!

Your local Datatool dealer will be able to advise on the best options to compliment any original equipment security and install the upgrades for you. Ask the dealer you purchased your bike from if they can fit it at the first service, if your nerves will allow you to wait that long… Make sure you let your insurance company know what you fit as it could also reduce your annual premium.

The Datatool TrakKING GPS/GSM system offers the very latest in security technology, constantly monitoring a motorcycle or scooter for unauthorised movement. Owners are initially alerted by SMS text message whilst Datatool’s 24/7/365 staffed call centre works with the Police for a swift recovery. With a recommended retail price of just £179 + installation, Datatool TrakKING provides owners of all ages and capacities of bikes or scooters the opportunity to benefit from the latest generation theft protection.

The S4 ‘Red’ is the market leading Thatcham Category 1 alarm/immobiliser from Datatool. This ground breaking super Thatcham Approved category 1 system boasts a combined state-of-the-art alarm and immobiliser system. It’s designed to fit in even the most awkward of spaces emitting a high power siren in the event of an attack. The unit has a customer selectable PIN even if the remote is lost. It’s designed to save your battery in winter months and features an audible early warning of a flat battery.

If your bike isn’t covered by the MASTER Scheme, you’ll need to look at one of the aftermarket Datatag Tagging kits. These are an easy DIY fit by you or can be installed by your dealer. Again, your first service would be a great opportunity to get this fitted.

Don’t forget to invest £29.99 in a Croc Lock –  an easy to use, highly visible theft deterrent for all scooters and motorcycles. Croc Lock works by locking the front brake lever to the handlebar, preventing the vehicle from being pushed or ridden away. Croc Lock is more visible than a disc lock, easier to install and impossible to forget!

Suzuki Announce Datatag Scheme Used Machines

Following the resounding success of the industry-backed Master Security Scheme in association with Datatag, Suzuki GB has announced the launch of its own Datatag scheme for used Suzuki models too.

Launched in 2013, the Master Scheme utilises the proven security technology developed by Datatag, bringing it to virtually every new motorcycle sold as standard in the UK. Since its introduction the impact of the scheme has been felt with only 403 machines reported as stolen, out of the 52,687 fitted with the system, effectively making an equipped machine four times less likely to be stolen when compared against figures for unmarked bikes.

Suzuki GB’s Paul de Lusignan, commented, “The impact of the Master Scheme has been felt right across the industry, from manufacturers to insurers and of course most importantly, with customers. While we are very proud to be part of this initiative for new bikes, we wanted to make sure that all of our customers have this chance of extra protection. Thanks to great cooperation between Datatag and our dealer network, we can now offer this to all Suzuki owners at a subsidised cost of just £55 including fitment.”

To arrange fitment of Datatag to your Suzuki, please contact your local authorised Suzuki dealer.

More about Datatag:

Datatag utilises state of the art identification technologies to permanently mark and protect your Suzuki. Datatag makes your motorcycle or scooter identifiable to the Police in such a way that is virtually impossible for a thief to defeat, therefore the risk involved in stealing this marked machine becomes high to the criminals who tend to avoid stealing in the first place.

Datatag has made a major impact on reducing theft and the Crown Prosecution Service has a 100% successful prosecution rate when evidence has been supplied by Datatag.
