Venhill Upgrade Tracer 700 Controls

Upgrade the brake lines and control cables on the Yamaha Tracer 700 with these new kits from British manufacturer Venhill.

A direct swap for the factory-fitted versions, the Venhill Featherlight-specification throttle and clutch cables offer improved performance and durability, yet require less maintenance than the original equipment. Made in the UK using marine-grade stainless steel inner wire that runs through a teflon liner for minimum friction and light action, feel and control are enhanced, while pressure on the hands is reduced, especially in stop start traffic and during long rides.

Each cable is ‘bird-caged’ – a special process applied to the end of the inner cable wire, which allows solder to penetrate the weave of the cable, making the bond with the nipple much stronger. The teflon lining also removes the need for lubrication.

Venhill Powerhose Plus braided brake lines feature a DuPont® Teflon® core, which is resistant to heat, softening, expansion and loss of shape, delivering more efficient fluid flow to the callipers, and increased braking force compared to the originals. Stainless steel braid is wrapped around the core, to prevent further pressure expansion. All Venhill braided brake hoses exceed American DOT and German TUV requirements, and, for further peace of mind, every hose that leaves their UK factory is pressure tested to 1500psi.

Upgrade Harley-Davidson Cables with Venhill

Harley-Davidson owners can now fit Venhill’s high quality cables to their ride, following the introduction of replacement throttle and clutch cable kits to their catalogue. 

All kits are universal, supplied with cables that are unfinished at one end, so that they can be cut to length.

All of the connections are designed to fasten securely without the need for soldering, so these are proper DIY kits for ‘home mechanics’, made to the high standard expected from Venhill.

The Dual Throttle and Idle cable kits [pictured below] come in both push-fit and threaded versions, to suit a wide range of models. Extra long – at 1350 mm / 53 inches – they allow for bikes fitted with high handlebars, and come with either 90° or 75° bends, in a choice of black or braided steel outers. The black cables have longitudinal conduit (not coiled) which won’t pinch on bends, so they won’t restrict cable movement.

The Clutch cable [pictured above] is also made extra long – at 2080 mm / 82 inches – and comes in black or braided steel finishes to match the throttle. Like all Venhill cables, they’re designed to deliver improved performance and durability, along with smoother action.

Magura Retro 225 levers

Magura’s Retro 225 master cylinder and lever replacement kits are traditionally styled and compact all-in-one units, for a simple fit where space is limited.

They are ideal for bike builders wishing to replace the hydraulic clutch and/or braking systems increasingly used on modern machines with something more in keeping with the stripped-down theme of special/custom builds.

The 225 brake kit comes complete with a polished lever, a black painted housing and a 22 mm clamp, which will fit most standard motorcycle bars. Quick-release Brake Coupling From Venhill

British braking specialists Venhill have developed a quick-release dry coupling for their Powerhose Plus braided brake lines.

Fitting a quick-release coupling allows riders to separate and reconnect a brake line without brake fluid leaking out or air getting in to the system. QR couplings are particularly useful for endurance racing, when callipers and/or master cylinders need to be replaced quickly and easily, without the need to bleed the system.

The male 1/8th BSP thread on the coupling fits directly onto the swivel nuts on Venhill’s Powerhose Plus hydraulic brake and clutch lines. It holds the hydraulic hose together securely with bayonet locking, yet can be separated in seconds by hand, without any tools. Venhill Powerhose Plus lines are available in a wide choice of modular lengths, so replacing original lines with a QR set-up is straightforward.

New Magura HC3 Master Cylinder with Hard Core Technology

Developed for racing and high performance road bikes, the new HC3 Master Cylinder features Magura’s patented Hard Core Technology (HCT), which reduces internal friction and improves brake performance and feel.

Not only can HC3 be used with most hydraulic motorcycle braking systems, it is also compatible with ABS systems: a slotted piston and stationary primary piston seal provide faster pressure balance in the event of ‘ABS kickback’.

The 90° full-radial design, where the push-rod and cylinder sit at a right angle to the handlebar, gives more direct feeling for improved control and feedback. Meanwhile the three-way adjustable lever ratio mimics the effect of using a piston size 1mm below or above the selected hydraulic ratio; simply remove and reposition the lever support bolt for a softer or harder pressure point.

The lever blade folds in the event of an accident, reducing the risk of damage to the master cylinder and increasing the possibility of being able to operate the brake normally after a fall.

Advanced X-Ring technology prevents the introduction of air through secondary seal ingress, which is a common problem on racing motorcycles.

Supplied with an external reservoir and mounting bracket – both clamp and bolts are titanium, for reduced weight – the HC3 it takes up minimum space on the bars. There is a smoked glass window to allow instant checking of fluid level and condition.

Cruz Tools Torx For Hogs

Cruz Tools now offer a folding Hex/Torx key set, containing the most commonly found sizes on Harley Davidson motorcycles.

There are six keys in total, all forged from heat treated nickel alloy, in hex sizes 5/32″, 3/16″, 5/16″ and the star-shaped Torx sizes T25, T27 and T40.

They fold out from a compact unit with a tough handle that allows multiple angles of use.

Venhill race kit for Triumph Daytona 675R

Venhill now offer racing brake lines and a fast action twistgrip conversion for the 2011-’12 model Triumph Daytona 675R.

Providing a choice of ‘standard’ and ‘fast’ settings, the 888 Twistgrip conversion is supplied with two rotors, allowing the rider to select the ideal set-up for the conditions. The rotors can be changed without the need to remove the throttle housing from the bar, keeping things quick and simple. In ‘fast’ mode throttle action is typically 45% quicker than the ‘standard’ setting. Twistgrips sell for £105.02 including VAT and cables.

The matching braided brake hoses run direct from the master cylinder to the Brembo callipers on either side of the front wheel. Manufactured in Venhill’s UK factory, close to Box Hill, using a DuPont Teflon core reinforced with stainless steel braid, every brake line is tested to 1500psi before leaving the factory. FRANDO brake calliper and disc for Yamaha R6

New from FRANDO, a replacement 4-piston brake calliper and floating front brake disc suitable for models of Yamaha’s popular YZF-R6 supersport 600 from 2005-2010.

A relatively new name to UK motorcyclists, FRANDO has manufactured a range of specialist braking components, including discs, callipers and master cylinders, since the 1990′s. The factory operates the ISO/TS16949 international quality management system for automotive suppliers, to ensure consistency throughout the design, development and manufacture of its products.

The calliper body is CNC machined from forged aluminium alloy, with a pitch of 108mm. The four 32mm pistons are made from titanium, which is light, durable and offers excellent heat dissipation, and the brake pads are sintered, for durability and wet weather performance. The calliper body is secured with alloy steel screws. Total weight is 1050g. Retail price is £415- including VAT.

A matching 300mm diameter floating disc is also available. Its outer is 5mm thick Japanese stainless 420 steel, with an aluminium 7075 inner, chosen for its high strength-to-density ratio. The buttons that connect the inner and outer are produced from Japanese galvanized iron SU304 and carry a 2-year worldwide warranty. Retail price is £187- including Vat.
