Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and RSV4 RR

The Aprilia RSV4 has always set the bar in terms of sportiness and performance, the best example of just what can be accomplished when drawing on the valuable experience of a winning Racing Department like that of Aprilia which, in its brief history, has earned 54 world titles, seven of which in the World SBK championship. Skills honed on the track and transferred to the production range, to provide everyone with the same excitement offered by Aprilia Racing motorbikes.

Unmistakeable in its design lucidity and applied technology, the RSV4 is conceived around a 65° V4 engine never before seen on a factory sport bike, and a frame which is the heir to a dynasty that has won 18 titles and 143 Grand Prix races in the 250 GP class, enhanced by the latest applied electronics systems to manage the engine and the bike’s dynamic performance. This is a true vocation of Aprilia, the first manufacturer to adopt the Ride-By-Wire multimap accelerator as standard, but above all the first to patent the APRC dynamic control system, with the exclusive features of self-calibration and wheelie control, in the spirit of maximum effectiveness at the service of ultimate performance. The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory adds to the exclusive range of electronic equipment with semi-active suspension, developed in collaboration with Öhlins and able to offer both feeling and performance for track riders as well as comfort and usability for riders on the road.

Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory
The RSV4 project has always pursued a stated goal: to be the absolute best and fastest uncompromising superbike, the closest to Aprilia racing bikes in terms of performance and effectiveness. A premium product at the top of its category, dedicated to extremely demanding customers who want top shelf performance and refined technical equipment, provided thanks in part to the use of prestigious materials such as aluminium, titanium and carbon.

The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory boasts exceptional performance combined with a racing frame and suspension and a series of first-rate electronic controls, added to which is the semi-active suspension.

In line with the exclusivity of this model, the Aprilia Style Centre has worked hard to make the RSV4 1100 Factory unique and recognisable even in its colours and attention to detail. The colour combinations aim to enhance the exclusive nature of prestigious materials such as carbon (utilised on the front mudguard, the side panels, the exhaust terminal guard, the aerodynamic appendages, and the new front tank cover), in contrast with the titanium finish of the street-legal Akrapovic exhaust tailpipe, the same colour as the forged aluminium wheels. For the graphics of the superstructure, an attractive total matte black look enhances all the beauty of the sculpture-like twin-spar frame and swingarm made of aluminium. Given the incredible performance achieved by the RSV4 1100 Factory, Aprilia adds aerodynamic winglets to the fairing for the first time on a factory superbike, thanks to developments made by Aprilia Racing on the RS-GP prototype from which they are derived. Their particular shape, designed in the wind tunnel, and the angle at which they are mounted exploit the downforce of the channelled air, allowing the winglets to increase stability at high speeds, which helps reduce the tendency to wheelie out of the corner, while also increasing stability during hard braking.

Chassis: greater track feeling and efficiency thanks to semi-active suspension
Aprilia always said it would never use semi-active suspension until the stopwatch demonstrated an improvement in terms of lap times. That time has come. After two years of development in close contact with Öhlins technicians and thanks also to experience gained with the Tuono V4 1100 Factory, which already adopts it, semi-active suspension now features on the top of the range RSV4 model, or rather the RSV4 1100 Factory. The Smart EC 2.0 system by Öhlins is fine tuned for the RSV4 thanks to intense development work by the Swedish and Italian technicians, who spent a great deal of time at the toughest, most testing tracks such as Imola and Mugello (but also on the road), before the stopwatch, the only judge when it comes to improvements made to the extraordinary RSV4 project, finally confirmed that the primary goal had been achieved, riding feel and performance both improved, and quantified on average by a lap speed half a second faster than the previous version of the RSV4 1100 Factory, equipped with the same Öhlins suspension, but with mechanical operation. In reality, the Öhlins suspension of the previous generation of Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and the semi-active system are very different, also on the inside, the hydraulics fully revised so as to allow the system to work as efficiently as possible and achieve the project goals set out by Aprilia.

The control unit that governs the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension has access to all the bike’s electronic systems, meaning it is able to recognise all riding phases and therefore adapt calibration of the fork, shock absorber and steering damper hydraulics thanks to the development of an algorithm, fruit of the collaboration between Öhlins and Aprilia. As a result, this suspension better supports the rider through every riding phase on track, also offering greater feeling with the front wheel, a characteristic that was already at a high level with all previous RSV4 models. In addition, its increased ability to mirror any asphalt unevenness makes for greater ease of use and riding pleasure on the road.

The particular technology of the Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension system allows simple and even customised calibration of the fork and shock absorbers with two operating modes: semi-active mode and manual mode, both of which can be selected using the buttons on the handlebar. 3 maps adjust the suspension in different ways and select the semi-active contribution. A1, A2 and A3. The first, developed for use with slick tyres, particularly suits circuits with a very smooth surface; the second, for use with compound tyres and at tracks with uneven asphalt; the third is dedicated to the road, characterised by freer hydraulics that better absorb imperfections in the road surface. In manual mode, on the other hand, the 3 maps (M1, M2 and M3) provide as many predefined calibration types without semi-active assistance, in the same way as mechanical suspension systems operate. Both in the semi-active and manual mode, the user still has the possibility, within the three aforementioned logic maps, to fine tune suspension calibration based on personal taste and riding style, of particular advantage to more expert and demanding riders. The Öhlins steering damper is now also managed electronically by the Smart EC 2.0 system and can be customised to best adjust the calibration depending on that of the fork and shock absorber. The OBTi (Objective Based Tuning Interface), visible on the 4.3 inch colour TFT dashboard of the Aprilia Tuono RSV41100 , makes for intuitive setting operations. The OBTi operating logic is based on the goals the rider wants to achieve during each riding phase: for example, greater support during braking if one wants more controlled descent of the NIX fork, or greater support in acceleration if one wants greater support from the TTX shock absorber when the throttle is fully opened. There is also the possibility for manual adjustment of the shock and fork spring pre-load.

Aprilia is known as one of the best chassis manufacturers in the world and the RSV4 represents the synthesis of the technical prowess Aprilia has acquired in top level world championships. A particularity which is still exclusive to the RSV4 RR and Factory (and which has always been a characteristics of the previous generations) is the exceptional range of possible adjustments that the standard equipment chassis is able to provide. In fact, the Aprilia RSV4 is the only superbike that allows the rider to adjust the engine position in the frame, the headstock angle, the swingarm pivot and rear end height, in addition to fully adjustable suspension of course. Just like a real racing bike.

The braking system remains unaltered, already top of line with the previous version and comprising a pair of Brembo Stylema® callipers, lightweight, efficient and equipped with pads with a high-performance friction coefficient. The brake callipers can be combined with the pair of carbon air ducts (similar to those used by Aprilia Racing on the RS-GP), which let you control the operating temperature, ensuring the same exceptional braking performance even in the most extreme use. The kerb weight of the RSV4 1100 Factory with a full tank is 199 kg, thanks also to the adoption of the Akrapovic titanium exhaust tailpipe and the ultra light lithium battery.

Record performance for the Aprilia 1100 V4
The level of performance offered by the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory is the very best a sports rider could hope for, and is combined with the character and inimitable sound of the V4 from Noale. No other engine of this kind can boast a ten-year-long history of wins. A platform capable of satisfying the needs of the most advanced sport rider and also an exceptional base around which to develop a racing bike. This is the world’s first full scale production motorcycle with a narrow high performance V4 engine, the most revolutionary and powerful engine ever built by Aprilia. An engine that is unique and unmistakeable due to its use of “total” electronics, its extremely compact size and its lightness, to which the magnesium external housings, oil sump and cylinder head covers all contribute. The narrow V architecture has made it possible to make an engine that is extremely compact lengthways which helps to centralise weights and to have an extremely high performance chassis. The timing system uses very particular kinematics: the chain camshaft drives only the intake camshaft which in turn drives the exhaust camshaft via a gear. This allows for extremely compact heads, to the advantage of the frame layout which, on the RSV4, is as compact as that of a Grand Prix bike. the crankcase is monobloc with integrated aluminium cylinder liners to ensure maximum rigidity and consistent performance. The countershaft dampens vibrations.

RSV4 1100 Factory engine displacement is achieved thanks to pistons with 81 mm bore and 52.3 mm stroke; The compression ratio is 13.6:1. The wet sump lubrication system uses an oil pump, the payload of which is able to control the temperature of the piston, thanks to the use of a double oil jet. With respect to the one litre version that equips the Aprilia RSV4 RR, the timing system boasts optimised intake valve timing, while the primary drive now counts on a longer ratio for fifth and sixth gear. The electronic injection system now uses a throttle valve support with a more aerodynamic profile in order to improve fluid-dynamic permeability. The Magneti Marelli 7SM ECU has a specific mapping with limiter management set at 13,600 rpm. This brings maximum power to 217 HP at 13,200 rpm, setting the bar in the category; maximum torque also benefits from these changes, obtaining a clear increase of more than 10% across the entire curve with respect to the 1000 cc engine and reaching a maximum value of 122 Nm at 11,000 rpm. This is a very important value that makes the RSV4 1100 Factory not only more effective in acceleration even at low speeds on track, but also more thrilling to ride on the road. Lastly, the exhaust system with specific Factory layout includes the  street-legal Akrapovic titanium exhaust tailpipe as standard, significantly lighter than the unit that equips the Aprilia RSV4 RR. Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory also benefits from specific calibration of the APRC electronic controls.

APRC: APRC: from Aprilia, the cutting-edge in electronics
Aprilia RSV4 1000 RR and RSV4 1100 Factory are fitted with an exceptional dynamic controls package designed and patented by Aprilia. Each of the two models benefits from specific calibration of all controls in line with the different performance levels the two bikes can boast. APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) is the well known dynamic control package derived directly from winning World Superbike technology, one of the most complete and refined currently available on the market. The particular positioning and orientation of the inertial platform that governs the operation of the system allows for optimum possibilities of detecting the bike’s dynamic conditions and, consequently, more effective electronic control strategies.

The fourth evolution of Aprilia APRC is perfectly integrated with the electronic fine tuning guaranteed by the full Ride-by-Wire throttle control which is completely built-in and requires no other components for electronic throttle valve management. This provides clear benefits in terms of weight (compared to a traditional system, the savings can be quantified at 590 grams).

The APRC, which comes as standard on the Aprilia RSV4 RR and RSV4 1100 Factory, includes:

  • ATC: Aprilia Traction Control, adjustable on the fly (without having to release the throttle) to 8 settings thanks to a practical joystick, boasts high performance operating logic.
  • AWC: Aprilia Wheelie Control, the wheelie control system that can be adjusted to 3 levels, has extremely precise operating strategies. Wheelie control can be adjusted on the fly without closing the throttle, like the ATC, thanks to the practical left side electric block.
  • ALC: Aprilia Launch Control, for use on the track only, with 3 settings, uses highly effective operating strategies.
  • AQS: Aprilia Quick Shift, the electronic gearbox that allows shifting without closing the throttle and without using the clutch, also equipped with the downshift function, to allow clutchless downshifting. Its open-throttle downshifting feature is exclusive.
  • APL: Aprilia Pit Limiter, the system that lets you select and limit the top speed allowed in pit lane at the track or simply to make it easier to comply with posted speed limits on the road.
  • ACC: Aprilia Cruise Control. Electronic management has allowed cruise control to be introduced, very convenient on longer trips because it lets you maintain the set speed without touching the throttle.

In addition to the fourth generation APRC system, RSV4 RR and Factory come as standard with advanced multimap Cornering ABS, developed in collaboration with Bosch to guarantee not only extreme safety on the road, but also the best possible performance at the circuit. With its remarkably contained weight and dimensions, the 9.1 MP system is able to optimize braking and ABS intervention through the corners, thanks to a specific algorithm that constantly monitors various parameters such as lateral acceleration, the pressure applied to the front brake lever, and the lean, pitch and yaw angle, modulating the braking action in order to better guarantee the ratio between deceleration and stability. The ABS system works in unison with the Aprilia RLM (Rear Liftup Mitigation) system that limits the lift of the rear wheel during more abrupt braking. Cornering ABS, fine tuned in accordance with Aprilia’s specific indications, is adjustable to 3 levels of sensibility. Each of the three Cornering ABS maps can be combined with any of the three engine maps (Sport, Track, Race), allowing riders with different experience and skill levels to find the best possible combination for their style. The three maps are “full power” and differ in the way they unleash the power of the Aprilia V4, in its two configurations, onto the asphalt, as well as the percentage of engine brake dedicated to each.

The colour TFT instrumentation is a true digital computer with exceptional display features. The two selectable screen pages (Road and Race, both with night and day backlighting) correspond to as many represented indexes. Available as an accessory for both the RSV4 RR and the RSV4 1100 Factory is Aprilia MIA, the Aprilia multimedia platform that allows the rider to connect a smartphone to the vehicle via Bluetooth, introducing a true corner by corner electronic settings calibration system for the first time, with data that can be subsequently downloaded to a laptop (or displayed directly on the smartphone) for analysis, just as is done at the races. Aprilia MIA is characterised by a new connection protocol that reduces smartphone battery consumption to a minimum, in addition to providing a wide range of already mapped circuit in which you can manage the electronic settings corner by corner, as well as user acquisition and timing of a new circuit that is not in the list Aprilia has provided. Aprilia MIA also includes the infotainment system, introduced by Aprilia for the first time on the RSV4, to manage voice commands and incoming/outgoing telephone calls on a smartphone. These activities are also displayed and managed by the digital instrumentation.

Aprilia RSV4 RR
Aprilia RSV4 RR represents a top shelf technical platform, ready to provide the rider with a “race replica” performance and feeling. In order to support the most demanding riders, one of the available accessories Aprilia offers is the Track kit, a package of prestigious parts that work together to improve many aspects of the RSV4 RR such as its weight, handling, aerodynamics and, last but not least, its appearance. The MY 20 version of the RSV4 RR has not undergone any technical changes with respect to the previous version.

The inimitable character and performance of the 1.0 litre Aprilia V4
The primary and unique characteristics of this 999.6 cc Italian technological gem, those that led to the creation of the best superbike of all time, are shared with the 1077 cc engine that powers the Factory version.

Power and maximum torque are respectively 201 HP at 13,000 rpm and 115 Nm at 10,500 rpm, bar-setting values that are joined by the one-of-a-kind sound, a true soundtrack offered by all Aprilia V4 engines. Like the Factory 1100 cc V4, the RR’s 1000 cc also boasts ultra lightweight pistons fitted with segments that reduce the blow-by effect in order to combine high performance and reliability. There is also a honing treatment for the connecting rod heads that contributes to reducing friction. The valve return springs also guarantee reliability during heavier work loads, while the valves benefit from optimised timing. The gearbox has a linear sensor that guarantees impeccable shifting operation, while the RSV4 RR exhaust system with double lambda probe features a silencer with integrated valve.

Chassis: Just like a real racing bike
Aprilia RSV4 perfectly represents the Aprilia tradition of packaging state of the art chassis architectures, thanks to the know-how acquired during high level international competition. The frame, with exceptional adjustment possibilities, and the swingarm both exploit pressed and cast elements that are welded to one another. The ratio between torsional stiffness and flexibility is one of the secrets behind the RSV4 chassis architecture’s success. It is the same structure that equips the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory, although the latter boasts a different steering geometry.

The chassis architecture of the RSV4 RR is completed by a Sachs suspension trio comprising a fork with 43 mm stanchions, a shock absorber with separate “piggy back”, and a steering damper, the first two fully adjustable in terms of all their hydraulic functions and spring pre-load (the shock absorber also has a centre-to-centre length adjustment that allows the height of the rear end to be changed).

On the RSV4 RR, Aprilia offers a pair of cast aluminium wheels and a Brembo braking system that is top of line in this category: the front relies on a pair of new 5 mm thick steel discs with a diameter of 330 mm, gripped by the monobloc M50 callipers fitted with high friction coefficient brake pads.

Versions and colours
The Aprilia RSV4 RR is available in two attractive colour schemes with a black or grey base (Rivazza grey and Arrabbiata black) and with red wheel rims.

The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory is the exclusive version that comes as standard with Öhlins semi-active suspension, lightweight aluminium forged rims and the titanium Akrapovic exhaust tailpipe. It stands out for its new dedicated Atomico Racer graphics which highlight and enhance the use of precious technical materials such as carbon, thanks to the contrast with the total black matte paint, also adding the tricolour graphics seen on the RS-GP that competes in the MotoGP world championship. Aprilia RSV4 RR and RF

The result of an extraordinary and winning project, the RSV4 was born out of Aprilia’s successful racing experience and sets the bar in terms of sportiness and performance

It is the fastest RSV4 ever, thanks to theÖhlins suspension systems, the braking system and the APRC electronic controls package that includes cornering abs and the downshifter. The 201 HP engine combines with a seven-time world superbike champion chassis architecture

News: the RR makes its debut in two new attractive graphic designs

Aprilia RSV4 is the natural evolution of an innovative project, capable in just a few years of dominating World SBK, earning seven world titles in six years and winning in its début in the FIM Superstock Cup, the championship dedicated to bikes that are closely derived from their factory versions. Unanimously acclaimed by critics and sought after by bikers from every corner of the globe, the RSV4 has always been the undisputed segment representative, the reference point for sportiness and performance, the best example of what can be achieved by exploiting the valuable experience of a victorious Racing Department like Aprilia’s which, in its brief history has taken 54 championship titles. Skills honed on the track and transferred to the factory product to provide everyone with the same excitement that the motorbikes prepared by Aprilia Racing do.

Unmistakeable in its design lucidity and applied technology, the RSV4 is conceived around a 65° V4 engine never before seen on a factory sport bike, a frame which is the heir to a dynasty that has won 18 titles and 143 Grand Prix races in the 250 GP class, enhanced by the most modern applied electronics systems to manage the engine and the bike’s dynamic performance. This is a true vocation of Aprilia, which was the first manufacturer to adopt the Ride-By-Wire multimap accelerator as standard equipment, but above all the first to patent the APRC dynamic control system, with the exclusive features of self-calibration and wheelie control, in the spirit of maximum effectiveness at the service of top performance.

The primary goal in creating the RSV4 was the same one that has set this model apart from its birth in 2009: to be the absolute best uncompromising superbike, the one that comes the closest to the current Aprilia racing bikes in terms of performance and effectiveness. Thanks to the experience acquired in the most selective speed championships such as WSBK and MotoGP, Aprilia is able to transfer technologies to their factory products like the full Ride-by-wire throttle and the dynamic controls package, APRC.

The fastest superbike in the segment

The primary goal followed during development of the Aprilia RSV4 (in both available versions, RSV4 RR and RSV4 RF) is, as always, only one: to be the fastest superbike in the segment. In order to achieve it, Aprilia drew from the best Aprilia Racing technology, carrying out continuous fine-tuning to the already exceptional RSV4 in many aspects, such as engine, electronics, suspension and brakes.

APRC: APRC: from Aprilia, the cutting-edge in electronics

Aprilia RSV4 RR and RF are fitted with an exceptional dynamic controls package designed and patented by Aprilia. APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) is the well known dynamic control suite derived directly from the winning technology in world Superbike, one of the most complete and refined currently available on the market. The particular positioning and orientation of the inertial platform that governs the operation of the system allows for improved possibilities of detecting the bike’s dynamic conditions and, consequently, more effective electronic control strategies.

The fourth evolution of Aprilia’s APRC is perfectly integrated with the electronic fine tuning guaranteed by the full Ride-by-Wire throttle control which is completely built-in and requires no other components for electronic throttle valve management. This provides clear benefits in terms of weight (compared to a traditional system, the savings can be quantified at 590 grams).

APRC, which comes as standard equipment on the Aprilia RSV4 RR and RF, includes:

  • ATC: Aprilia Traction Controladjustable on the fly (without having to release the throttle) to 8 settings thanks to a practical joystick, boasts high performance operating logic.

In addition to the fourth generation APRC system, RSV4 RR and RF come from the factory standard with advanced multimap Cornering ABS, developed in collaboration with Bosch to guarantee not only extreme safety on the road, but also the best possible performance at the circuit. The 9.1 MP system, with truly contained weight and dimensions, is able to optimize braking and the ABS intervention in corners, thanks to a specific algorithm that constantly monitors various parameters such as lateral acceleration, the pressure applied to the front brake lever, the lean, pitch and yaw angle, modulating the braking action in order to better guarantee the ratio between deceleration and stability. The ABS system works in unison with the Aprilia RLM (Rear Liftup Mitigation) system that limits the lift of the rear wheel during more abrupt braking. Cornering ABS, fine tuned in accordance with Aprilia’s specific indications, is adjustable to 3 levels of sensibility and can be switched off. Each of the three Cornering ABS maps can be combined with any of the three engine maps (Sport, Track, Race), allowing riders with different experience and skill levels to find the best possible combination for their style. The three maps are “full power” and differ in the way they unload the 201 HP of which the Aprilia V4 is capable onto the asphalt, in addition to the percentage of engine brake dedicated to them.

The colour TFT instrumentation is a true digital computer with exceptional display features. The two selectable screen pages (Road and Race, both with night and day backlighting) correspond to as many represented indexes. Standard equipment for the RSV4 RF (and optional for the RSV4 RR), is V4-MP, the Aprilia multimedia platform that lets you connect your smartphone to the vehicle via Bluetooth, introducing for the first time a true corner by corner electronic settings calibration system with data that can subsequently be downloaded to your laptop (or displayed directly on the smartphone) for analysis, just like they do at the races. V4-MP is characterised by a new connection protocol that reduces smartphone battery consumption to a minimum, in addition to providing a wide range of circuits already mapped in which you can manage the electronic settings corner by corner, as well as user acquisition of a new circuit that is not in the list Aprilia has provided. V4-MP also includes the infotainment system, introduced by Aprilia for the first time on the RSV4, to manage voice commands and incoming/outgoing telephone calls with your smartphone. These activities are also displayed and managed by the digital instrumentation.

The inimitable character and performance of the Aprilia V4

The primary and unique characteristics of this gem of Italian technology, the ones that led to the creation of the best superbike of all times, remain unchanged. This is the world’s first full scale production motorcycle with a high performance narrow V4 engine, the most revolutionary and powerful engine ever built by Aprilia. An engine that has been made unmistakeable because of the use of “total” electronics, because of its extremely compact size and light weight. Power and maximum torque, respectively 201 HP at 13,000 rpm and 115 Nm at 10,500 rpm, remain at bar-setting values and are joined by the one-of-a-kind grown that has always been the true soundtrack Aprilia V4 engines have always offered. In order to combine high performance and reliability, extremely lightweight pistons were selected with brand new segments that reduce the blow-by effect. There is also a honing treatment for the connecting rod heads that contributes to reducing friction. The valve return springs also guarantee reliability during heavier work loads, while the valves benefit from optimised timing. Last, but not least, the powerplant boasts an exhaust system with a silencer fitted with double lambda probe and integrated valve, while the gearbox has a linear sensor that guarantees impeccable shifting operation.

Chassis: Just like a real racing bike

Aprilia is known as one of the best chassis manufacturers in the world and the RSV4 represents the synthesis of the technical prowess Aprilia has acquired in top level world championships. A particularity which is still exclusive to the RSV4 RR and RF (and which has always been a characteristics of the previous generation RSV4 models) is the exceptional possibility of adjustments that the standard equipment chassis is able to offer. In fact, the Aprilia is the only superbike that allows the rider to adjust the engine position in the frame, the headstock angle, the swingarm pivot and the rear end height, naturally in addition to the fully adjustable suspension. Just like a real racing bike.

The RF version of the RSV4 offers sophisticated suspension systems with fine adjustments both in hydraulics and spring preload, higher performance and more than 800 grams lighter than the previous versions: the fork is a latest generation Öhlins NIX unit, as is the TTX shock absorber; the latter is operated by dedicated progressive linkage that increases the reaction time of the shock absorber itself. There is also an adjustable steering damper, also supplied by Öhlins. On the RSV4 range, Aprilia offers a Brembo braking system that is the absolute top of the line in this category: the front relies on a pair of new 5 mm thick steel discs with a diameter of 330 mm, gripped by the monobloc M50 callipers fitted with high friction coefficient brake pads.

Versions and colours

Aprilia RSV4 RR represents a top shelf technical platform, ready to provide the rider with a “race replica” performance and feeling. The RSV4 RR incorporates all the electronic, engine and brake features introduced on the sibling RSV4 RF. As standard equipment it also has features which were once exclusive to the Factory version, such as magnesium external housings, oil sump and head covers and a wide range of chassis adjustments. Aprilia RSV4 RR is available in two attractive new colour schemes, both matte, on a black and grey base (Rivazza grey and Arrabbiata black) with red wheel rims.

Aprilia RSV4 RF is the exclusive version that comes standard with latest generation Öhlins suspension systems and lightweight aluminium forged rims. It stands out for its dedicated “Superpole” graphics which combine colours where black and red dominate.

Aprilia Racing Factory Works

The factory works project makes a special, high performance range of bikes available, created on the extraordinary RSV4 base, sold and supported directly by Aprilia Racing, the factory bike that has won 54 world titles. The new FW-GP is fully loaded with technology developed in MotoGP

The history of the Aprilia RSV4 is one of the most sporting and victorious ever for a single model in the factory derivative category. From 2009 to the present, this extraordinary Italian V4 has collected seven world titles in the World Superbike championship, sealed further – in the 2015 season – by the FIM CUP Superstock 1000 Rider and Manufacturer titles. This is an extraordinary racing career that stems from the technical leadership of the factory model, reconfirmed constantly by its multiple wins in comparative tests organized by the most authoritative international motorcycle periodicals.

Aprilia Racing – the Piaggio Group’s most advanced development, innovation and experimentation platform – launched the “Factory Works” programme last year to make the same technology developed for the world champion bike available to anyone who wants to compete in top level factory derivative championships or for those who simply want to have an RSV4 with optimised performance for track use. The programme includes the realization of RSV4 “Factory Works” bikes developed in compliance with the Superstock and Superbike championship regulations in the different countries, with various levels of chassis, electronics and engine modifications. In 2017, this extraordinary project will reach a new peak, introducing an even more powerful version of the RSV4, called the FW-GP, fitted with the V4 with bore taken to 81 mm and pneumatic valve timing, a configuration similar to the one that Aprilia raced officially in the 2015 MotoGP world championship. Therefore, Aprilia Racing is the first to make all the technology developed in MotoGP available, accompanied by a complete range of exclusive services, before, during and after sale, that aim not only to make this experience truly unique and unrepeatable, but also to allow the customer to take maximum advantage of the RSV4 FW-GP’s full potential.

Romano Albesiano, Aprilia Racing Technical Manager comments on the new and extraordinary initiative: “Aprilia Racing has always competed in the most selective world speed championships, like MotoGP, in order to acquire experience and to develop technologies that we can also apply to the factory product. The RSV4 is the best example of the close collaboration between the racing world and production. With the Factory Works programme, Aprilia Racing now offers something more, something truly unique – the chance to own a true racing bike. Different levels of sophistication are available: it starts with an RSV4 optimised for the track, moving on to the SSTK version (exactly like the bike that dominated the 2015 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup) all the way to a true Superbike. For 2017 we decided to push farther, making an extreme RSV4 configuration available, fitted with an engine that has pneumatic valve timing. With the FW-GP, Aprilia Racing provides its customers, not only with the technology developed in MotoGP, but also with special treatment in terms of information, support and fine-tuning of the bike before, during and after the purchase, just like the riders have who race with Aprilia Racing, in order to allow them to take maximum advantage of this exceptional bike’s full potential.”

Aprilia Shiver 900

The naked bike from Noale grows in displacement with a new Euro 4 twin-cylinder capable of more than 95 HP and 90 NM of torque

New performance combined with an absolutely top shelf frame for a rideability that raises the bar to new heights in the naked sport bike segment

An intuitive, powerful, agile and technological bike is born in the best aprilia tradition, dedicated to absolute riding pleasure

Also available in the limited 35 KW power version for riders with an A2 driver’s license

As always, Aprilia makes refined mechanics and an excellent chassis structure the winning values on its new bike. The new Aprilia Shiver 900 evolves the original project of a bike that, from its first appearance on the scene in 2007, marked a turning point as the first factory bike fitted with Ride-by-wire technology to manage engine throttle valve electronics. A technological first from Aprilia derived directly from the racing world, the Aprilia Cube, in fact, was the first MotoGP bike to use this technology in 2002 and since then all of the global manufacturers have followed suit.

The Aprilia Shiver 900 increases in performance, thanks to the new 900 V-twin engine, capable of increasing, not only the power, but more importantly, the maximum torque delivered at any rpm at top levels for its category. More power and more character that translate into great riding satisfaction without sacrificing the ease and comfort that have always been characteristics of the Aprilia Shiver. It stems from a bike that has made fledgling and expert riders alike fall in love, thanks to its chassis architecture that, in the best Aprilia tradition, draws on the know-how of a manufacturer that has won 54 world titles in its brief history and that currently has bikes in premier competitions like MotoGP and Superbike.

The new superstructures – side covers on the fuel tank, side panels, tail fairing, front mudguard – that profoundly revamp the aesthetics make the new naked sport bike from Noale stand out at a glance.

The new twin cylinder also stands out for its aggressive features that highlight its distinctly sporty character: the wheel rims, the frame, the shock absorber spring and the cylinder head covers are now painted red.

The instrument cluster is completely new and is now made up of an ultra-modern TFT technology display to ensure that the information is perfectly legible. The large, 4.3” screen (the same one used on the new Aprilia RSV4 and Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 versions) allows all the on board information to be clear and highly legible at all times, thanks in part to its capacity of adapting the background and font colours based on the conditions detected by the light sensor.

Connectivity with your smartphone, provided as an accessory with the AMP kit, also provides you with all the data related to incoming/current calls on the screen, as well as information related to the use of an intercom or any audio files that you may be playing.

For the first time, the easy to ride, powerful and technologically advanced Aprilia Shiver 900 now has an advanced traction control system that increases safety while taking riding pleasure to maximum levels. From city riding to more flowing routes, from mountain passes to touring itineraries, even long range, Shiver 900 invites you to fasten your helmet and set off in search of the best sensations on two wheels.

A new engine, new power

The new Euro 4 engine grows to 900 cc from the 750 cc on the first version. This increase was achieved thanks to the increased stroke that means the power at the shaft exceeds the threshold of 95 HP and, more importantly, significantly increases torque at medium rpms, all to the advantage of pick up power during acceleration and coming out of corners. The 90 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm that are consequently obtained guarantee pure fun in the saddle.

Aprilia Shiver 900 is an easy bike to ride even for new bikers, accompanying them in their personal evolution of experience in the saddle. This is why there is also a version available with power limited to 35 KW that can be ridden by A2 class license holders.

The new powerplant maintains the 90 degree angle between the two cylinders, as well as a timing system with four valves per cylinder, dual overhead cam and liquid cooling. On the other hand, it now has a more efficient lubrication circuit and the new Marelli 7SM ECU.

The new Shiver 900 receives the full benefits of Aprilia’s extensive experience in electronic control systems and riding support for which the Aprilia RSV4 – the supersport bike that has won seven World SBK titles (three rider and four manufacturer) in its racing version and that is consistently at the top of its category in the street version – is an unrivalled example.

Out of this experience and from this Aprilia technological first, the Shiver 900 features an advanced traction control system that guarantees maximum safety, but also pure brilliant riding enjoyment thanks to the dual control that acts on both ignition and on the motorized throttle valves, making its intervention smooth and easy to manage.

The Ride-by-wire feature, that made its début as standard equipment for a factory bike on none other than the first Shiver version, also changes and evolves. On this latest version, the system becomes lighter thanks to a reduction in weight of more than half a kilo.

The exhaust pipes, one of the characterizing aesthetic elements of the Aprilia Shiver with their placement under the saddle to give the side view of the bike an extremely clean look, have been redesigned. They maintain the original position, but the end of the silencer is shorter and directed upward. The exhaust flow is now directed downward and to the side in order to prevent interference with the passenger and to guarantee greater comfort.

A chassis architecture worthy of the Aprilia tradition

The performance provided by the new engine is perfectly matched to an ultra-fine chassis architecture, easy to ride and intuitive, but at the same time incredibly high performance that, in the best Aprilia tradition, is simply unrivalled in the category. In fact, the mixed steel trellis/aluminium plates frame provides standard-setting stiffness, defines an extremely compact bike and ensures that it is capable of catering to fledgling riders with no problem, as well as enhancing the riding skills of more expert and discerning bikers. This makes flowing routes a favourite playground for the Shiver 900.

The Shiver 900 structure takes advantage of all the proverbial Aprilia know-how where frames are concerned and draws from the on-track experience gained in the Supermoto competitions where Aprilia boasts no less than seven World Titles. The trellis upper part in steel tubing is connected to wide spread aluminium lateral plates using special, high-resistance bolts. The combination formed by these elements forms an extremely stiff and lightweight frame, an extremely rational and excellent solution for reining in all the horses of the new Aprilia V90.

The contained longitudinal development of the engine has led to obtaining an agile bike, a feature that also benefits from the choice to position the shock absorber laterally. Thanks to this solution, space was created for the exhaust manifolds that have a shape and volume calibrated to perfection in order to get the best performance from the engine. This has allowed for an optimum exhaust manifold layout, without having a significant impact on the length of the bike and without thermally stressing a fundamental riding element like the shock absorber.

The aluminium alloy swingarm with stiffening truss boasts stiffness values at the top of its category and it is sized to withstand the asymmetrical stress due to the lateral positioning of the shock absorber.

Aprilia Shiver 900 adopts a new 41 mm stanchions Kayaba fork, almost a half kilo lighter than the one mounted on the first version, adjustable in hydraulic rebound damping and spring preload, with chill cast feet to support the radial callipers. The 120 mm travel lets you smoothly tackle urban and mountain routes. The two steering yoke plates are made of forged aluminium.

The rear shock absorber, mounted on the side, is pivoted directly to the swingarm, following the cantilever layout and it is adjustable in spring preload and hydraulic rebound. Rear wheel travel is 130 mm.

The sporty, three-spoked wheel rims are also new, inspired by the standard Aprilia Tuono V4 wheels and contributors to containing the weight, reducing the front by 0.9 kg and the rear by 1.3 kg. This leads to a drastic reduction of the gyroscopic effect and therefore greater agility for the bike, improved suspension functionality thanks to the reduction of unsprung masses and quicker acceleration. The new wheel rims are shod with 120/70 tyres on the front and 180/55 on the rear.

The braking system, equipped with two-channel ABS, implements radial callipers to highlight the sportiness of the project and 320 mm discs on the front. On the rear, a 240 mm disc is gripped by a single-piston calliper.

Both the front and rear systems have metal braided brake lines derived from the aeronautic sector, which eliminate the annoying buffering effect of conventional lines and guarantee maximum braking precision.

Aprilia Dorsoduro 900

The fun bike from Aprilia evolves with the sole objective of providing maximum riding fun. More performance from the revamped twin-cylinder engine, a tighter ride and better handling from the refined chassis architecture and the best available technology

Aprilia Dorsoduro is the fun bike par excellence. Born out of an ingenious intuition by Aprilia, it was built with the sole objective of providing the most possible road riding fun, drawing from the best characteristics of sport bikes and the best characteristics of supermotards. The result is a bike with advanced technical solutions, agile and with performance at the top of its category. A truly special bike, achieved not only thanks to Aprilia’s skills in packaging particularly efficient chassis architectures combined with high performance powerplants, but also thanks to collaboration with the Aprilia Racing Department, capable of earning a total of 54 world titles in the most difficult and selective competitions where they have participated, 7 of which in the world Supermoto championship.

Dorsoduro 900 is born out of Aprilia’s solid tradition in this motorcycle segment and it is a true thrill generator. The exclusivity is also due to its original and innovative technical choices, like the mixed steel trellis/aluminium plates frame with excellent handling and tight cornering characteristics. The 90° V-twin engine puts a smile on the rider’s face every time the throttle is twisted, thanks to the new characteristics of maximum torque and power that amplify its personality. The fine electronic management that includes, besides the Ride-by-wire multimap accelerator, traction control and ABS, complete the technical equipment on the Dorsoduro 900.

The design: the balancing point between form and function

The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 project places riding fun at the centre of its focus: for this reason, the superstructures are reduced to the minimum indispensable, as anything that is not essential for performance and maximum riding pleasure has been foregone. The technical elements, on the other hand, play a fundamental role, becoming a fundamental part of the design. It is not just the hand guards on the handlebar and the number plate on the front that highlight the close bond with the racing world. The shape of the centre area, the one that most involves the rider during sporty riding, also highlight the design created to achieve optimized and compact dimensions that allow the rider to find the right feeling straight away. Aprilia engineers achieved this result by designing a long and flat saddle, clearly derived from the sports world, capable of ensuring the most effective riding position at all times and allowing plenty of room for longitudinal movement. The tail is one of the most representative aesthetic aspects of the Dorsoduro: sleek and slender, it also houses the double exhaust, a solution that allows for excellent proportional symmetry and weight distribution.

Better performance from the revamped V-twin engine

Starting from the 750 cc 90° V-twin engine base, well-known and popular because of its character and reliability, Aprilia developed a new 900 cc unit with the goal of obtaining more torque and response at low and medium rpms for a thrilling riding experience. The Aprilia V-twin was therefore revisited in numerous details to achieve this purpose. The new engine capacity was obtained by increasing the stroke from 56.4 mm to 67.4 mm and leaving the bore unchanged (92 mm). By so doing, maximum power now peaks at 95.2 HP at 8,750 rpm, but more important is the maximum torque value that goes from 8.4 kgm (82 Nm) at 4,500 rpm on the 750 cc V-twin to 9.17 kgm (90 Nm) at 6,500 rpm on the new 900 cc V-twin, a value that is truly at the top of its category. It should be noted that, despite the fact that maximum torque peak for the new 900 cc V-twin is reached a higher rpms, the torque curve is actually flatter and always higher than the 750 cc predecessor. This change allowed the acceleration response to be increased, all to the advantage of a fun ride, without limiting in any way whatsoever the proverbial reliability of the powerplant, that in any case, now benefits from a new internal lubrication circuit capable of limiting power loss due to churning and lubrication consumption. The exhaust system, fitted with a double oxygen sensor, contributes to bringing the engine to within the limits established by the Euro 4 pollution standard. Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 is also available in a limited-power 35 kW version, ideal for newly licensed riders.

New electronic management

Electronic engine management is now handled by the new and more powerful Marelli 7SM ECU that dialogues with the new full Ride-by-wire electronic accelerator system, completely built into the throttle grip. This system allows even more accurate management of the fuel/air mixture and the injection throttle valve opening based on numerous parameters including engine speed, gearbox position, air flow (in quantity and speed), throttle grip and temperature, with great benefits in terms of smooth riding without opening/closing jerks, containment of harmful emissions and fuel consumption. The engine is, therefore, always able to distribute the ideal torque and provide the best acceleration, all to the advantage of a satisfying and fun ride. The system also allows a weight reduction of 550 grams compared to the previous Ride-by-wire that equipped the Dorsoduro 750. The sophisticated electronic management also provides the possibility of changing the engine mapping, radically changing the character of how the power it is capable of developing is unloaded onto the ground. The Sport setting provides an immediate and aggressive throttle response; the Touring logic provides a smoother response, ideal for touring and daily use, whereas the Rain map is ideal in the event of difficult weather conditions or on slippery road surfaces. Dorsoduro 900 introduces a new Aprilia traction control system with sensitivity adjustable to three levels (it can also be disabled) to limit rear wheel spin by acting on ignition and the injection throttle valves. The Dorsoduro 900’s Aprilia Traction Control system is combined with a Continental two-channel ABS system that can also be disabled, with developed calibration in order not to take anything away from the sporty ride. The new electrical system places the engine control and management systems in communication with the new colour TFT digital instrumentation. The compact unit with a 4.3-inch screen contains a wealth of information that is always highly legible thanks to its capacity of adapting the background and font colours based on the conditions detected by the light sensor. One of the optional features is the AMP installation kit, the Aprilia multimedia platform that connects a smartphone to the vehicle to provide an exceptional quantity of information useful for the ride: the new instrumentation lets you view all the data related to incoming/current calls on the screen, as well as information related to the use of an intercom or any audio files that you may be playing.

Chassis architecture: better handling and control

All Aprilia bikes have always been considered a point of reference for their excellent chassis architecture. The Dorsoduro 900 chassis provides high characteristics of efficiency, balance, a tight ride and precision even in extreme track riding, but at the same time it is easy and intuitive for daily use. These qualities are the merit of the particular layout of its various elements.

The frame takes advantage of the know-how Aprilia has developed in racing competitions, drawing deeply from the experience gained on the mixed structures used in the Supermoto world championship. The trellis upper part in steel tubing (now painted red, like the saddle support frame) is combined with wide spread aluminium lateral plates using special, high-resistance bolts. The result is an extremely rigid and lightweight structure, the best solution for taking full advantage of the revamped capacity of the 900 cc V-twin, with an aesthetic impact that communicates light weight, extremely high technical content and Italian style. Another strongly distinctive technical feature is the lateral and inclined positioning of the shock absorber, a unit that is adjustable in spring preload and hydraulic rebound. This solution has created precious space for an optimum exhaust manifold layout, without having an impact on the length of the bike and without stressing the shock absorber thermally. The aluminium swingarm is sized to withstand the asymmetrical stress due to the lateral positioning of the shock absorber and it boasts the torsional stiffness and elasticity characteristics indispensable for precision at rest and the ride feeling in transitory stages.

On the Dorsoduro 900 a new Kayaba fork makes its début (combined with forged aluminium steering yoke plates), 450 grams lighter, adjustable in hydraulic rebound damping and spring preload and better capable of withstanding the stress of sport riding and absorbing bumps on the road surface, providing control in aggressive riding and greater comfort for those more relaxed rides. The overall improved performance of both the Dorsoduro 900 suspension systems is also due to the new pair of three-split-spoke wheels, more than 2 kg lighter than those that equipped the Dorsoduro 750. Reducing the gyroscopic effect increases handling and acceleration, as well as providing benefits for suspension performance because of the reduction of unsprung masses.

The Dorsoduro 900’s top shelf chassis structure is completed by a sport-derived braking system. The front end relies on radial 4-piston callipers and a pair of 320 mm steel floating discs, lightweight and capable of guaranteeing reduced braking distances and excellent modulability. The 240 mm rear disc is gripped by a single-piston calliper. Both the front and rear systems have metal braided brake lines derived from the aeronautic sector, which eliminate the annoying buffering effect of conventional lines and guarantee precision and resistance to force.

New Aprilia RSV4 RR And RF

Aprilia RSV4 evolves radically to continue being the best superbike ever the result of an extraordinary and winning project, born out of Aprilia’s successful racing experience

More than one second per lap faster than before, thanks to the new öhlins suspension systems, the new braking system and the new APRC electronic controls package that includes cornering abs and the downshifter. The 201 hp euro 4 engine combines with a seven-time World Superbike champion chassis architecture

This is a true vocation of Aprilia, which was the first manufacturer to adopt the Ride-By-Wire multimap accelerator as standard equipment, but above all the first to patent the APRC dynamic control system, with the exclusive features of self-calibration and wheelie control, the system that now reaches new levels of effectiveness at the service of top performance.

The primary goal in creating the new RSV4 was the same one that has set this model apart from its birth in 2009: to be the absolute best uncompromising superbike, the one that comes the closest to the current Aprilia racing bikes in terms of performance and effectiveness. Thanks to the experience acquired in the most selective speed championships such as WSBK and MotoGP, Aprilia is able to transfer technologies to their factory products like the new full Ride-by-wire throttle and the dynamic controls package, APRC, further advanced.

More than one second faster than before

The primary goal followed during development of the new Aprilia RSV4 (in both available versions, RSV4 RR and RSV4 RF) is, as always, only one: to be the fastest superbike in the segment. In order to achieve it, Aprilia drew from the best Aprilia Racing technology, refining the already exceptional RSV4 in many aspects, such as electronics, suspension and brakes. Thanks in part to the work done on the powerplant, now compliant with the Euro 4 regulation, without sacrificing anything in terms of power and range of use, the new RSV4 is one second faster than the previous version on average.

The new APRC: from Aprilia, the cutting-edge in electronics

The Aprilia RSV4 RR and RF make perfect what was already top shelf in the previous versions thanks to a significant improvement to its already exceptional dynamic controls package designed and patented by Aprilia. APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) is the well known dynamic control suite derived directly from the winning technology in world Superbike, the most complete and refined of those currently available on the market. This progress was possible mainly thanks to the repositioning of the inertial platform that governs the operation, improving accurate detection of the dynamic conditions of the bike, resulting in more efficient electronic control strategies.

The fourth evolution of Aprilia APRC fits in perfectly with the fine electronic management of the new full Ride-by-Wire throttle that has allowed all superfluous throttle body electronic management components to be eliminated, thereby saving 590 grams.

APRC, which comes as standard equipment on the Aprilia RSV4 RR and RF, includes:

  • New ATC: Aprilia Traction Control, adjustable on the fly, (without having to release the throttle) to 8 settings thanks to a practical joystick, now has even more fine tuned and higher performance operating logic.
  • New AWC: Aprilia Wheelie Control, adjustable to 3 levels, has new, much more precise operating strategies thanks to the repositioning of the inertial platform. Wheelie control can now be adjusted on the fly without closing the throttle, like the ATC, thanks to the new and more practical left side electric block.
  • New ALC: Aprilia Launch Control, for use on the track only, with 3 settings, uses even more effective new operating strategies.
  • New AQS: Aprilia Quick Shift, the electronic gearbox that allows shifting without closing the throttle and without using the clutch, now with the downshift function as well, to allow clutchless downshifting. Its open-throttle downshifting feature is exclusive.
  • New APL: Aprilia Pit Limiter, the system that lets you select and limit the top speed allowed in pit lane at the track or simply to make it easier to comply with posted speed limits on the road.
  • New ACC: Aprilia Cruise Control. The new electronic management has allows an advanced cruise control system to be introduced, very convenient on longer trips because it lets you maintain the set speed without touching the throttle.

The new ABS system works in unison with the Aprilia RLM (Rear Liftup Mitigation) system that limits the lift of the rear wheel during more abrupt braking. Cornering ABS, fine tuned in accordance with Aprilia’s specific indications, is adjustable to 3 levels of sensibility and can be switched off. Each of the three Cornering ABS maps can be combined with any of the three new engine maps (Sport, Track, Race), allowing riders with different experience and skill levels to find the best possible combination for their style. The three maps are “full power” and differ in the way they unload the 201 HP of which the Aprilia V4 is capable onto the asphalt, in addition to the percentage of engine brake dedicated to them.

The total revamping of the RSV4’s electronics management is completed by the new colour TFT instrumentation, a true digital computer with exceptional display options. The two selectable screen pages (Road and Race, both with night and day backlighting) correspond to as many represented indexes. Standard equipment for the RSV4 RF (and optional for the RSV4 RR), there is a new version of the V4-MP, the Aprilia multimedia platform that lets you connect your smartphone to the vehicle via Bluetooth, introducing for the first time a true corner by corner electronic settings calibration system with data that can subsequently be downloaded to your laptop (or displayed directly on the smartphone) for analysis, just like they do at the races. The new V4-MP adds a new connection protocol that reduces smartphone battery consumption to a minimum, in addition to providing a larger range of circuits already mapped in which you can manage the electronic settings corner by corner, as well as user acquisition of a new circuit that is not in the list Aprilia has provided. V4-MP also includes the infotainment system, introduced by Aprilia for the first time on the new RSV4, to manage voice commands and incoming/outgoing telephone calls with your smartphone. These activities are also displayed and managed by the digital instrumentation.

Euro 4 engine, the same exceptional performance

The primary and unique characteristics of this gem of Italian technology, the ones that led to the creation of the best superbike of all times, remain unchanged. This is the world’s first full scale production motorcycle with a high performance narrow V4 engine, the most revolutionary and powerful engine ever built by Aprilia. An engine that has been made unmistakeable because of the use of “total” electronics, because of its extremely compact size and light weight. The changes implemented in this evolution of the Italian V4 not only resulted in achieving the goals of Euro 4 approval, but also increasing overall reliability and performance, without sacrificing power and maximum torque (which remain respectively at 201 HP at 13,000 rpm and 115 Nm at 10,500 rpm), and not even that inimitable sound that has always been a true soundtrack of the Aprilia V4 engines. The powerplant earns a new exhaust system with a silencer that has a double oxygen sensor and a built in valve. The engine ECU is new, with superior calculating capacity able to manage the rise in maximum revs, now 300 rpm higher. Therefore, the engine now boasts an increased extension capacity and it was also for this reason that the variable timing intake ducts were eliminated, no longer deemed necessary. This decision contributed to reducing the weight of the fuel system parts by 500 grams. In order to increase performance and reliability, new and lighter pistons were introduced with brand new segments that reduce the blow-by effect. Furthermore, a honing treatment was added for the connecting rod heads, further reducing friction. The valve recall springs are also new in order to guarantee reliability during the heaviest operating loads, whereas the valves have benefited from optimized timing, capable of increasing performance and reliability. Last, but not least, the gearbox now has a linear sensor that guarantees impeccable gearshift operation.

The chassis: new brakes and suspension

Aprilia is known as one of the best chassis manufacturers in the world and the RSV4 represents the synthesis of the technical prowess Aprilia has acquired in top level world championships. A particularity which is still exclusive to the RSV4 RR and RF (and which has always been a characteristic of the previous generation RSV4 models) is the exceptional possibility of adjustments that the standard equipment chassis is able to offer. In fact, the Aprilia is the only superbike that allows the rider to adjust the engine position in the frame, the headstock angle, the swingarm pivot and the rear end height, naturally in addition to the fully adjustable suspension. Just like a real racing bike.

The RF version of the RSV4 earns new and more sophisticated suspension systems with fine adjustments both in hydraulics and spring preload: the fork is a latest generation Öhlins NIX unit, as is the TTX shock absorber; the latter is operated by new progressive linkage that increases the reaction time of the shock absorber itself. There is also an adjustable steering damper, also supplied by Öhlins. On the new RSV4, Aprilia introduces important changes in the Brembo braking system: the front relies on a pair of new 5 mm thick steel discs with diameter increased to 330 mm, gripped by the monobloc M50 callipers fitted with new superior friction coefficient brake pads.

Versions and colours

Aprilia RSV4 RR represents a top shelf technical platform, ready to provide the rider with a “race replica” performance and feeling. The RSV4 RR incorporates all the electronic, engine and brake innovations introduced on the RSV4 RF. As standard equipment, it also has features which were once exclusive to the Factory version, such as magnesium external housings, oil sump and head covers and a wide range of chassis adjustments. Aprilia RSV4 RR is available in two new attractive colour schemes, both matt, on a black and grey base (grigio Bucine and nero Ascari) with red wheel rims.

Aprilia RSV4 RF is the exclusive version that uses new Öhlins suspension systems and lightweight aluminium forged rims as standard equipment. It stands out for the dedicated graphic that maintains the evocative name of the previous “Superpole” version, but it has a different graphic pattern.

Rich range of accessories

Aprilia has designed and developed a wide range of accessories so you can personalise your RSV4 RR and RF. High quality selected items to increase performance, make them more attractive or more comfortable.

Slip-on exhaust: made by Akrapovic, this item has a carbon silencer and is approved for street use.

Complete racing exhaust: this is an exhaust system complete with headers made by Akrapovic. the muffler is in carbon.

Öhlins TTX shock absorbers (standard equipment on the RSV4 RF): the TTX line is the most prestigious of the products offered by Öhlins (top and bottom attachments are in billet aluminium). They allow full and fine adjustment in all shock absorbing functions. They can be fitted with linear sensors to install telemetry.

Öhlins steering damper (standard equipment on the RSV4 RF): the fine adjustment of this item’s hydraulics provides a front end that is always solid during the most violent acceleration.

New – Aprilia RS 125

Symbol of Aprilia’s sport dna, RS 125has been profoundly revamped to celebrate twenty-five years of success at Intermot.

Aprilia RS 125 is still the point of reference for sport bikes dedicated to younger riders, a concentrate of content and style, ready for the best performance on the road and on the track

Born out of racing, aggressive, capable of expressing dynamic character and light weight in a personal and recognisable style, RS 125 MY2017 highlights Aprilia’s passion for sport with a concentrate of technological refinements worthy of a true Superbike. Exclusive ergonomics of a true super sport bike, sleek fairing, aluminium frame, a generous engine and the best components and technical features in a look that is now even closer to that of the RSV4 superbike.

An adult look for young passion

The Aprilia RS 125’s new look takes its inspiration from the shapes and colours of its multiple title winning older sister, the RSV4 that is a protagonist in World SBK, an aggressive and original look that is highlighted by the triple headlight, a trademark of the “big sister”. The sleek fairing enhances the exclusive aluminium frame, an entirely racing-inspired refinement that no competitor can claim. A winning solution that Aprilia takes from its experience on the track to reduce weight and bulk and give the vehicle textbook agility and handling. The tapering lines of the slender tail fairing seem to melt away into nothing, joined together with the LED taillight that, in the spirit of road safety, guarantees outstanding lighting power.

The new RS 125 version is available in two liveries: Silver Speed and Black Speed. Both with a sporty orientation, they are also characterized by the graphics with the dominating “a” on a red background which is the emblem of the Aprilia machines that compete on racetracks all over the world. The graphics on the fuel tank recall the Italian red, white and green as a reminder of the RS 125’s exclusivity, the only small sport bike to be designed, developed and built in Italy.

The latest version of the Aprilia RS 125 also boasts the largest storage compartment in its segment, a space that can hold a 6” tablet. A practical USB port can also be mounted to conveniently recharge your smartphone or any other compatible device.

Unique ergonomics, benchmark chassis

The general ergonomics of the Aprilia RS 125 are designed for the track. No other 125 can convey a racing character like the eighth-litre from Noale. The riding position on the RS 125 is unique: the semi-handlebars, forward-mounted lower than the steering yoke and the set-back footpegs, along with the saddle-fuel tank assembly, ensure a true super sport riding position without compromise.

Developed on the basis of Aprilia’s experience on the track, the spectacular perimeter frame consists of die cast aluminium spars with crossed reinforcement ribs. It is a lightweight structure, capable of providing high torsional rigidity in order to guarantee top performance on the road and on the track.

The solid upside-down fork and the rear suspension with racing-derived monoshock secured to the asymmetrical swingarm ensure performance, top level safety and comfort. The split 6-spoke design of the wheels emphasizes the purposeful character of the RS 125. A configuration that is once again merit of racing experience that ensures light weight and speed going into corners. The braking system uses a four-piston radial calliper on the front wheel, assisted by Bosch single-channel ABS, that grips a 300 mm diameter steel disc. The rear mounts a single-piston calliper that grips a 220 mm disc and has a tone wheel to guarantee anti roll over protection. Maximum performance and safety at every braking point. The license plate mount and turn indicators can be easily removed for track use.

Racing instrumentation

Compact and ultra-lightweight, the new instrument cluster provides all the functions of true racing instrumentation: from the analogue Rev. counter to the multifunction digital display with handlebar controls for the speedometer, trip master, battery voltage, time and stopwatch with memory for 20 laps, cooling circuit temperature indicator and fuel reserve indicator, OBD warning light and ABS fault warning light. The AMP ECU that enables connectivity between the bike and your smartphone is also available as an accessory.

Motor

The beating heart of the Aprilia RS 125 is a modern and technological 125 cc single-cylinder, 4-Stroke, 4-Valve electronic injection engine with liquid cooling: reliable on the road and powerful on the track, it has particularly refined technologies such as double overhead camshaft timing (DOHC). With ultra-modern conception and design, lightweight and compact, it has allowed development of a refined chassis. Its power, optimally calibrated, guarantees responsiveness even at low revs. Vibrations are reduced to the minimum by a balancing countershaft. Euro 4 approved, it guarantees environmentally-friendly top performance.

The 2017 MY RS 125 is installation-ready for Quick Shift, the innovative gear shifting system that Aprilia has used and perfected on tracks all over the world. Just like with its big sister, the RSV4, the electronic system manages torque interruption for the engaged gear change, how far the throttle is open and the engine revs, allowing the rider to upshift while holding the throttle open and without using the clutch.

The exhaust, which is unmistakably racing inspired, is completely integrated within the lower part of the fairing. A solution with a strong aesthetic impact that effects the dynamic performance of the vehicle, based on the centralisation of the masses.

Aprilia RS, a unique sports history

20 world titles including Rider and Manufacturer championships and unsurpassed commercial success over time, the Aprilia RS 125 is the symbol of the sports DNA of the Manufacturer from Noale. It made its début in ’92 as the first example of combined content that was to become the true essence of Aprilia, that constant exchange of knowledge between the track and the road that infects both the sport and commercial spirit. The first world title for the manufacturer from Veneto came precisely in the 125 class with Alessandro Gramigni in 1992. The most recent – of the twenty earned – came in 2011, brought home to Noale by Nico Terol. In between were two decades of near absolute domination in the segment which clinched the title as the most victorious European racing team in Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing.

Skully HUD Helmet: The future of rider and vehicle technology

The Piaggio Group, via its Aprilia brand, has announced a collaboration with Skully, the American company pioneering the development of helmets with Heads-up Display technology (HUD).  This is in order to develop new and highly sophisticated forms of rider-vehicle interaction for V4-MP, the Aprilia RSV4 and Tuono 1100-specific iteration of PMP (Piaggio Multimedia Platform), which is already available for several models in the Group’s motorcycle and scooter brands.

These combined technologies will mean the multitude of information available through the PMP system will be visible on the Skully helmet visor, in addition to the features already offered by the helmet itself. The system allows the rider to travel in improved safety, having all kinds of useful information available without having to take his or her hands off the handlebar.

The helmet replaces the vehicle instrument cluster, providing an exceptional amount of clear information that can be matched and recalled with voice command, shown on a transparent displayed positioned on an area of the visor that does not interfere with visibility. The wide angle rear camera constitutes a fundamental supplement to the bike’s original mirrors, providing a wide view and clear images without distracting the rider’s focus on the road, while the Piaggio multimedia platform, connected to the helmet via Bluetooth, takes care of providing all the necessary travel and vehicle indications.

Further Information about Piaggio Multimedia Platform

Piaggio Multimedia Platform connects your smartphone to your vehicle

In 2012 the Piaggio Group was the first manufacturer in the world to create a system which allowed the vehicle to be connected to a smartphone (and consequently to the web), thereby transforming it into an additional tool capable of providing an exceptional amount of added information compared to what is already provided by the factory instrumentation. The link between the vehicle and the internet is called PMP (Piaggio Multimedia Platform), which is already available for several models in the Group’s motorcycle and scooter brand ranges, making travel safer and more convenient. This is a window to the future which lays the foundation for a new way of looking at communication on two wheels. Once the free app has been downloaded, the Bluetooth pairing of the smartphone to the vehicle allows the various nearest authorised service centre, automatically setting navigation to reach it. PMP stores all the travel information and allows it to be studied in depth at a later time on your computer and it also contains the operating and service manual options to be viewed and easily modified to the rider’s preference: speedometer, rev counter, but also instantaneous engine power and torque, lean angle, longitudinal acceleration, instant and average fuel consumption, average speed and battery voltage are just some of the features that can be accessed. PMP increases rider and passenger safety: the tyre status monitoring feature uses the vehicle and smartphone sensors in synergy to monitor tyre wear and inflation, while the general analysis feature allows the vehicle status to be monitored, indicating the most appropriate action to take in the event of a fault, as well as the for your vehicle.

Further Information about Skully

Founded in 2013 in California’s Silicon Valley, Skully recently introduced the AR-1, the first motorbike helmet fitted with the highly advanced heads-up display (HUD) technology, until now available exclusively to military pilots. The information from the 180° rear view camera, the navigator and the weather information service is projected directly onto the helmet visor, providing clear enormous advantages in terms of safety and riding freedom

Piaggio Group At EICMA 2014

Less than 48 hours after Aprilia’s triumph, breaking the bank in the 2014 WSBK championship with a thrilling finale on the Qatar circuit to take both the Rider title with Sylvain Guintoli and the Manufacturer title with the RSV4s, the Piaggio Group is at the opening of the EICMA 2014 show with a range of extraordinary new products in the bike world.

In fact, the Aprilia and Moto Guzzi brands are key players at the most important global event for the motorcycle industry, one being the emblem of cutting-edge technology and sportiness, the other a symbol of elegance and Italian motorcycling tradition.

Aprilia, with 54 World Championships under its belt to make it one of the most victorious brands in the world, expands its range of bikes powered by the exclusive V4 engine. This is a unique powerplant that has marked Aprilia’s domination in WSBK whilst providing street bikers with unique performance.

Moto Guzzi, firmly rooted in its values as an Italian brand, takes on new challenges and explores new market segments. Built around the impressive 1400 engine, powerful and attractive bikes are born to place the eagle from Mandello on the cutting-edge of technology and style.

EICMA 2014 is also a chance for the Piaggio Group to show the results of their continuing propensity for research aimed at developing new forms of mobility. Out of this unique heritage of style and technology, today a new vehicle is introduced, a completely new project intended to meet the most evolved needs and the most advanced mobility trends, exploring new and advanced forms for better integration between user and mechanical vehicle, and between the vehicle and the environment.

Aprilia RSV4 RR

This is the new generation of the Aprilia RSV4, winner of 7 world championship titles in 5 years of WSBK. It has a new fairing design and a new 65° V4 engine with more than 200 HP. The chassis has also been revamped. The aPRC electronic control systems package now has even more advanced logic, representing the absolute best any rider could desire.

Aprilia Tuono V4 1100

Aprilia’s supernaked has been completely revamped, becoming not only powerful and fast but first and foremost more fun and easier to use on the road. Available in two versions (RR and Factory), it mounts the exclusive 65° V4 which has now been increased in engine capacity to 1100 cc, with 175 HP and 120 Nm of torque. Latest generation electronics, Race ABS and a revamped chassis make the Tuono V4 110 the most advanced and efficient sport naked in the world.

V4-MP Multimedia Platform

Available for the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 and the Aprilia RSV4 RR is a further evolution of the Multimedia Platform that allows you to connect your smartphone to your bike and program the electronic controls turn by turn on the circuit for an even more efficient and effective ride. The data can be recorded and the rider’s performance can be graphically displayed to help improve lap times.

Skully HUD Helmet

Thanks to collaboration between the Piaggio Group and Skully (an American Heads-up display helmet manufacturer) complete integration will be possible between the functions of the Piaggio Multimedia Platform and the most advanced heads-up display technology. To manage all the information that the PMP can provide – even using voice commands with the helmet on – without ever taking your hands off the handlebars.

Moto Guzzi Eldorado

Moto Guzzi Eldorado is the modern and luxurious interpretation of the unforgettable850 that made its fortune in the States in the late ’60s. A powerful 1400 V-twin engine, cruise control, 16” spoked wheels, fuel tank with chromium sides, oversize saddle, rear mudguard with gem-shaped taillight, bullhorn handlebar, passenger grab handle: details that make a difference.

Moto Guzzi Audace

Ostentatious, muscular and fierce, the new Moto Guzzi Audace can be picked out immediately by its front end, thanks to its circular headlight unit and carbon mudguard. The drag handlebar is also new which, thanks in part to the forward position of the footpegs and the different seating level, creates a more stretched out and more dominating riding position. The 1400 cc “Made in Mandello” 90° V-twin has a new exhaust system and is now even more lively at high revs.

Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring S.E.

The California 1400 Touring will be available in 2015 in the new S.E. version. Characterised by a new two-tone graphic, this version, which has a built-in passenger backrest and grab handle, emphasises the virtual continuity with the Guzzi heritage. The California is an open invitation to travel, thanks in part to its large 35 litre capacity side panniers, cruise control and the vibration dampening action of the elastic-kinematic mounting system for its 1400 cc engine.

Piaggio Electric Bike Project

Electric Bike Project goes beyond the concept of a pedal-assisted bicycle. It is a means of transportation that interprets the most progressive mobility demands. The heart is a 250W-350W electric power unit designed entirely by Piaggio. The anti-theft security system is exceptional, as well as the reliability of the on board systems and the lithium ion battery. And with the new Piaggio Multimedia Platform the opportunities for user/vehicle and vehicle/environment interaction multiply exponentially.

New Aprilia Tuono V4 1100

Tuono V4 1100 is the latest and most spectacular evolution of a sport naked dynasty, born in 2002 out of Aprilia’s intuition to strip down and fit a handlebar on their flagship superbike (which at the time was the V-twin RSV mille), thereby combining all the advantages of a chassis par excellence with the fun of sitting up and dynamic riding. The patriarch of the new “supernaked” category was called the Tuono 1000 R, the first ultra high performance naked. Aprilia Tuono has therefore always been a high handlebar superbike, unbeatable on the track and loads of fun on the road. It was out of this tradition that a completely new Tuono was born in 2011, a direct emanation from the unbeatable Aprilia RSV4 introduced in 2009 and World SBK dominator. It was an epic change: Tuono V4 R immediately made a place for itself as the highest performance, most technological and sophisticated naked sport bike ever manufactured, the most adrenaline pumping, fierce and effective naked ever seen, an excellence for the most purist of thrill seeking enthusiasts thanks to the V4 engine capable of 167 HP and the exceptional aPRC electronic controls package, still unrivalled in terms of effectiveness and technology. But the evolution did not stop here. In 2013 an even more refined and powerful version was introduced: Tuono V4 R ABS which offered the new features which had already been successfully introduced on the second generation RSV4, such as the higher performance engine (170 HP), the revamped and recalibrated aPRC system and a Race ABS system capable of withstanding even the extreme stress of the track.

The know-how acquired in years of victorious competition at top levels and the experience of the Tuono history now allow Aprilia to exceed limits which had previously seemed insurmountable: introducing the new Tuono V4 1100, an exclusive thrill generator and fun in its purest state. New 175 HP engine with a powerful maximum torque of 120 Nm, revamped chassis setup to achieve better agility, fine tuned aPRC, new look, the possibility of connecting your smartphone to the vehicle through the PMP platform and two distinctly outfitted versions (Factory and RR) that have the same, strictly Aprilia character in common.

Two versions, the same spirit

Tuono V4 becomes a family of motorbikes made up of two distinctly outfitted models. Tuono V4 1100 RR represents an exceptional thrill machine and it is the true heir to the previous Aprilia V4 naked, acclaimed by critics as the most effective and fastest bike in its segment. In addition to this model there is now a version with exclusive standard equipment: Tuono V4 1100 Factory, dedicated to an extremely demanding public, this bike is equipped with components which are largely derived directly from the new Aprilia RSV4 RF superbike.

The new Aprilia naked range, heir to a family of motorbikes which has been voted over time as one of the most fun, adrenaline pumping and efficient bikes ever, thus achieves absolute performance levels and sophistication, but now these bikes are also more comfortable, safe and fun to ride on the road. In addition to receiving many of the important upgrades which were just introduced on the new RSV4, Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR and Tuono V4 1100 Factory also add a new look thanks to the more protective top fairing and the better aerodynamic penetration coefficient. The relative headlight unit changes as well, a whole 1.5 kg lighter, fitted with a LED technology parking light and a more modern shape which better integrates with the overall design of the bike without betraying the typical language of the Aprilia V4 characterised by three headlights. Tuono V4 1100 Factory stands out for its new rail fairing, derived from the RSV4’s, a true benchmark in sport motorbike design. The saddle has been made more comfortable, even with respect to its fairing-clad sister, thanks to the new foam production procedure which prevents the crystallisation phenomenon – and therefore the hardening – of the foam itself. You can still naturally ride two-up by mounting the dedicated saddle portion. Thanks to the 15 mm lower seating position and the new, narrower handlebar, the on board ergonomics of both the Tuono V4 1100 versions change, becoming decidedly more comfortable.

World champion chassis

Simply incomparable, now more than ever. There is no other naked bike as sporty and effective as the Tuono V4 1100; its close derivation from the seven times World SBK champion is clear when you look at the beautiful double rail frame made from pressed and cast brushed aluminium elements, a structure that boasts unrivalled balance between torsional stiffness and flexibility; the new 65° V4 engine is set inside it in all of its purity and uniqueness, just like a precious stone set in a ring. In order to make the Tuono V4 1100 more agile on the road, without losing its legendary fierceness on the track, the headstock angle was changed from 25.1° to 24.7° and the trail went from 107.4 mm to 99.7 mm. These sleeker chassis dimensions combine with the 6 mm longer aluminium swingarm, the various suspension setups and the consequent adjustment of the electronic controls, including the wheelie control feature, to obtain a rock solid chassis at high speeds but more agile in direction changes.

Tuono V4 1100 RR is fitted with a high quality suspension: the upside-down Sachs fork with 43 mm stanchions has separate “one by one” hydraulic adjustments in compression and rebound as well as spring preload adjustment on both stanchions. The Sachs shock absorber with built-in piggy back allows the hydraulics to be adjusted in rebound and compression, as well as spring preload adjustment. The new standard calibration on both units is functional to the increased performance of the V4 engine and the revamped chassis dimensions and it also takes into consideration use of the bike on the road without any prejudice to the possibility of personalisation in order to obtain maximum accuracy and precision in true racing style riding.

The more refined Factory version of the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 comes with par excellence standard equipment unique in its category, borrowed from the king of superbike, the Aprilia RSV4 RF. The suspension section is made up of a trio of Öhlins elements (fork, rear shock absorber and steering damper) characterised by ultra fine tuning possibilities and a base setup that has been calibrated to give the rider maximum performance feedback in sport riding.

The braking system on the new Tuono V4 1100 range has a pair of refined Brembo monobloc M432 callipers on the front which mounts pads with the best possible friction coefficient that grip lightweight aluminium flanged discs (for Tuono V4 1100 Factory). The wheel rims are the same for both models: their lightweight quality contributes to a maximum reduction of the gyroscopic effect, all to the advantage of great handling. Tuono V4 1100 Factory is shod with the sportier Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa, with a wider 200/55 on the rear, in any case approved for street use and available for the Tuono V4 RR as well.

The top of the line in electronic controls

The Tuono V4 1100 range has received all the upgrades to the already exceptional aPRC system that was first seen on the RSV4 RR and RSV4 RF.

As everyone knows, aPRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) is the patented control systems package derived directly from the winning technology in the world Superbike championship, the most complete and refined of any on the market, which provides tyre circumference self-calibration features and wheelie control. The third generation of aPRC, standard equipment on the new Tuono V4 1100 units, fully integrates with the fine full Ride-by-Wire multimap electronic management of the revamped V4 engine. As always, the Tuono V4 benefits from a specifically developed calibration, but it has been evolved even further in order to provide maximum thrills on the road and maximum performance on the track.

The Tuono V4 1100 RR and Tuono V4 1100 Factory aPRC includes:

  • aTC: Aprilia Traction Control, adjustable on the fly (without having to release the throttle) to 8 settings thanks to a practical joystick on the left side of the handlebar, now has even more fine tuned and higher performance operating logic. The percentage of slippage allowed also differs depending on the speed in the turn: the system’s performance is smoother and guarantees high support in long sweepers at high speeds without penalising grip coming out of slow turns;
  • aWC: Aprilia Wheelie Control, with 3 selectable settings, has been recalibrated to be even more sporty in map 1, whilst still guaranteeing a slight lift in quick acceleration and subsequent smoother descent of the front wheel to the tarmac;
  • aLC: Aprilia Launch Control, the assisted starting system for use on the track only with 3 settings;
  • aQS: Aprilia Quick Shift electronic gearbox for ultra-fast shifting without closing the throttle or using the clutch.

In addition to the third generation aPRC, the Tuono V4 1100 range is fitted with the highly advanced Race ABS system, developed in collaboration with Bosch to guarantee maximum safety on the road, without sacrificing any performance on the track. The 9MP system, which weighs in at just 2 kg, uses an actuation strategy called RLM (Rear wheel Lift-up Mitigation) that, as the name suggests, mitigates rear wheel lift in more abrupt braking situations; it can also be disengaged and it is adjustable to three levels easily by accessing the control menu on the instrument cluster.

  • Level 1: this is dedicated to track use but is also approved for street use. It acts on both wheels to guarantee the best possible performance, even in the most intense braking conditions at any speed. It takes nothing away from the pleasure and performance of “extreme” riding. With this strategy RLM is disabled.
  • Level 2: this is dedicated to sport riding on the road, acts on both wheels and is combined with the RLM tip over system which engages progressively based on the vehicle speed.
  • Level 3: this is dedicated to riding on surfaces with poor grip, acts on both wheels and is combined with the RLM tip over system.

Each of the three Race ABS maps can be combined with any one of the three engine maps (Track, Sport, Road) to allow riders with varying experience and skill levels to find the best possible combination.

Higher performance than the V4

The primary goal of the changes made to the already extraordinary Aprilia Tuono V4 engine was to increase torque, especially at medium-low revs in order to increase effectiveness and riding pleasure on the road. To achieve this goal the engine capacity was increased to a full 1077 cc thanks to the new cylinder bore which was taken from 78 to 81 mm. This increase in displacement also resulted in higher top performance: the power peak went from 170 to 175 HP and places the Tuono V4 1100 range at the top of its segment (already at 8,000 rpm almost 20 HP more than before are available). This makes the new sport naked from Noale a complete weapon for thrills and effectiveness with superlative torque values that dominate on the road and uncompromising top performance to dominate on the track.

The Tuono V4 1100 is the only naked powered by a 65° V4 engine° with unique characteristics. The narrow V architecture made it possible to build an engine with incredibly reduced longitudinal bulk which favours centring the weight and creating a compact chassis. As in previous models, the monobloc crankcase with integrated aluminium cylinder liners ensures maximum rigidity and consistent performance. The upper half of the engine case is now made with a new shell fusion and has been lightened and reinforced; it also now has an optimised ventilation system in order to reduce power loss due to air pressure inside the engine crankcase. Also, the crankshaft now has connecting rod pins reduced to 36 mm in diameter, the pistons are new and the Pankl connecting rods are lighter by a total of 400 grams.

The other technical particulars which made this engine so popular have remained unchanged, such as the removable gearbox and the innovative timing system kinematics: the chain camshaft drives only the intake camshaft which in turn drives the exhaust camshaft via a single gear. This solution allows for extremely compact heads especially in the area beneath the frame spars, much narrower than would otherwise be possible. A countershaft dampens vibrations even more than in a 90° V engine.

Full Ride by Wire technology eliminates any direct connection between the throttle grip and the throttle valves, which are entirely controlled by a latest generation Marelli control unit that also controls the ignition and the four injectors. Each bank is fuelled by two throttle bodies managed by a dedicated servo unit. This means that the aperture of the throttle valves and consequently the quantity of fuel injected can be controlled independently. This solution opens up practically infinite possibilities for power delivery control.

The new and powerful engine ECO now allows the three maps to be more easily managed, each one of which corresponds to a different engine power output and now also to a dedicated engine brake management map. The two classic engine management maps, Track and Sport, are now joined by a Road map which is full power instead of the previous generation Tuono V4’s limited power map. All three maps are more manageable and less aggressive than the previous version, allowing a better relationship between the opening of the throttle and the torque sent to the wheels. This is a solution that provides further advantages, such as reducing rear tyre wear and better management of the significant power that the new Aprilia V4 is capable of developing.

Versions and colours

The new Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 range includes two models distinguished by different technical equipment and different colour schemes: Tuono V4 1100 RR is available in two attractive colour schemes, grigio Portimao and Donington blu, whereas the Superpole graphic of the Tuono V4 1100 Factory has that decidedly non-conformist spirit so typical of the Aprilia stylistic tradition that demands bright and very distinctive colours.

In the rich accessories catalogue dedicated to the Aprilia Tuono V4 100 you can now find a highly advanced version of the Piaggio Multimedia Platform which transforms your smartphone into a semi-professional tool with exceptional information capacity. As you know, Piaggio Multimedia Platform is the innovative multimedia platform offered exclusively by the Piaggio Group which allows you to connect your vehicle to your smartphone and consequently to the web. With this exceptional application your smartphone becomes an actual sophisticated on board multifunctional computer and the link between the vehicle and the Internet. This is a window to the future which lays the foundation for a new way of looking at communication on two wheels. Thanks to a further development of this fascinating system fine tuned by Aprilia, communication between the bike and smartphone now becomes active: from your smartphone you can change the settings on your Tuono V4, as well as receive tips in real time on how to improve your performance on the track in complete safety.

Some of the more prominent features of V4-MP are:

  • Active electronic setup: this is as close as you can get to the “corner-by-corner” electronic management used in racing. Using the GPS feature of your smartphone, the system recognises the position of the bike at any given time on the track and automatically changes the electronic adjustments (traction control, anti-wheelie, engine mapping, etc.), accessing a database of parameters recommended by Aprilia Racing. In any case you can set the electronic controls up according to your own preferences, turn by turn. This allows you to increase safety and effectiveness on the track, adjusting the control parameters at every point on the circuit and without distractions.
  • Immersive virtual telemetry: your smartphone records the data from the engine and, using a sophisticated and realistic engine graphic, illustrates user performance. The lap reference is indicated by the “ghost” bike image and the performance relative to it can be downloaded to a database which collects all the laps made by Aprilia customers on each circuit.
  • Adaptive race assistant: this feature provides tips in real time to safely achieve your best lap on the track with your Tuono V4. Thanks to Aprilia Racing Department simulation technology, you can establish the ideal lap for each track, considering the various grip and rider skill levels. The application compares rider performance in real time and assists by immediately indicating the need to brake or the possibility of opening up the throttle.Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR: Technical Specifications[Tuono V4 1100 Factory data in brackets]

New Aprilia RSV4 RR

Out of racing triumphs, where Aprilia is world SBK champion, the new RSV4 RR is born, an extraordinary evolution of theRSV4 unique and victorious project capable of redefining supersport bike frontiers

The exceptional qualities of a racing chassis, further fine-tuned, combine with a new engine that has more than 200 hp of maximum power: greater performance, lighter weight, more effective on the track and new riding pleasure on the road, with the best possible technology provided by the advanced aPRC and race abs electronic controls

Aprilia RSV4 evolves radically to continue being the best superbike ever and, thanks to the new v4-mp app now telemetry is introduced.

The new Aprilia RSV4 RR is the natural evolution of a revolutionary project which has successfully dominated World SBK, with 7 world titles won in 6 years, establishing itself as the best superbike of all times. Aprilia RSV4 is a global reference point for sportiness and performance, the best example of what can be achieved by exploiting the valuable experience of a victorious Racing Department like Aprilia’s which, in its brief history has taken 54 championship titles. Skills honed on the track and transferred to the factory product to give advanced users the same excitement as the motorbikes prepared by Aprilia Racing for global competitions.

Unrivalled for its brilliant design and applied technology, the Aprilia RSV4 was conceived around a 65° V4 engine that had never before been seen on a factory sport bike, a frame which is the heir to a dynasty that won 18 titles and 143 Grand Prix races in the 250 GP class, enhanced by the most modern electronics systems applied to managing the engine and the bike dynamics. A genuine vocation of Aprilia which led it to be the first manufacturer to adopt Ride-by-wire as standard equipment, the multimap power output system, but above all the first to patent the aPRC dynamic controls platform with the exclusive self-calibration and wheelie control features.

The goal of the efforts made at Noale to create the new RSV4 RR was the same one that has set the RSV4 apart from the very first version in 2009: to be the absolute best uncompromising superbike, the street bike that comes the closest to being a real racing bike in terms of performance and effectiveness. Aprilia RSV4 RR is equipped with all the electronic and technical refinements that a rider could want, with the possibility of making a further and definitive upgrade by choosing the “Race Pack”, which includes exclusive aluminium forged rims and professional Öhlins suspension. To celebrate the arrival of the new king of superbikes, Aprilia is also offering a limited edition version – the RSV4 RF – characterised by a dedicated livery and elements of the Race Pack included as standard equipment.

A new era

Aprilia RSV4 RR represents the most important and profound advancement ever made on this extraordinary model. A development that even involved the design. The style of the new RSV4 is the result of the perfect combination of form and function. The careful design led to the creation of the most compact full size sport bike on the market, where technical elements such as the impeccable aluminium double rail frame contribute to emphasising its racing vocation.

The front end has been completely redesigned: now there is a new, more protective top fairing, created after a careful wind tunnel aerodynamics study, which provides better protection from the wind for riders of any height. This choice has a positive impact not only on the track when the rider is seeking protection to achieve maximum speed, but also on the road where greater comfort is provided thanks to the lower air pressure on the body and helmet. The characteristic triple headlight is also new, now with a more modern shape and an LED parking light. The mirrors are new, also the subject of a wind tunnel study, which combine excellent aerodynamic penetration with improved visibility and built in LED turn indicators.

The engine

In terms of quantity and quality of the operations, the unrivalled Aprilia V4 has every right to consider itself a radically new unit: if there were any doubts, they are quickly dispelled by the more than 16 additional HP and the 1.5 kg less than its predecessor. This is one of the Aprilia RSV4 RR elements that is most closely derived from the racing world and the one on which the Aprilia Racing Department was able to work the most with the factory production.

An engine that has become unmistakeable because of the use of “total” electronics, because of its extremely compact size and exceptional light weight.

The main goals of the new V4 project were clear: increase power across the board, exceeding the threshold of 200 HP maximum peak and at the same time increase the already generous torque at all engine speeds. To achieve them work was done on decreasing internal friction, improving combustion efficiency and fluid-dynamic efficiency as well as on increasing the maximum rotation speed. The Noale engineers redesigned almost all of the internal and external elements.

Starting from the top, the 65° V4 has a new air box with filtering elements perpendicular to the air flow, studied with sophisticated CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) systems in order to minimise load losses and maximum pressure in the intake ducts. The upper injectors are new, whereas the variable setting intake ducts were redesigned to the benefit of an even wider range of management in terms of their travel. As with previous models, each bank has a dedicated servo unit actuating the two throttle bodies of that bank only. This means that the aperture of the throttle valves and consequently the quantity of fuel injected can be controlled independently. This is a never before used solution in a production bike that opens up practically infinite possibilities for power delivery control and works hand in hand with the aPRC system.

In order to improve the fluid dynamic performance, the heads were redesigned with intake and output ducts that have new geometries and contouring on the ends machined by a numerically controlled tool. The combustion chambers are no longer obtained through a fusion process but by a finer mechanical process which is also numerically controlled. In order to improve reliability and precision under extreme loads the height of the valve seat seals was increased and the relative lubrication reservoir was modified. The heads now have a triple layer of gaskets. The timing system confirms the innovative mixed chain and gear kinematics of the Aprilia V4 (with the chain camshaft driving only the intake camshaft, which in turn drives the exhaust camshaft via a gear) which allows for extremely compact heads especially in the area beneath the frame spars, much narrower than would otherwise be possible. In order to increase the maximum rotation speed a painstaking study was conducted on lightening the parts in motion of the elements included in the heads. All four valves are now in precious and lightweight titanium (the intake valves are oversized at 33 mm); the valve springs are completely new, the intake valve springs are made with oval section wire whereas the relative tappets and caps were lightened. The camshafts have a brand new profile and were lightened by a whole 500 grams. Moving downward, the crankshaft now has connecting rod pins reduced to 36 mm in diameter, while the Pankl connecting rods are lighter by a total of 400 grams.

The lubrication system has also been redesigned. A brand new oil sump ensures increased draught no matter what position the engine is in (for example in the most extreme leans or in maximum acceleration/deceleration conditions) despite the oil level being decreased in order to decrease friction. The “rose pipe” is also new (oil pump intake line), now equipped with a new overpressure valve and thinner mesh filter. The piston cooling oil nozzles were also replaced and the gearbox now has a valve regulated direct hydraulic lubrication circuit. The latter uses lightened primary drive gears and takes advantage of new ratios which have been optimised to fully exploit the increased engine power. The entire exhaust system has also been completely redesigned with revamped electronic valve management, now equipped with two oxygen sensors (one per bank), while a new, more powerful ECU contributes to more precise management of the engine in the area of maximum rotation achievable.

Chassis architecture

Aprilia is known as one of the best chassis manufacturers in the world and the RSV4 RR represents the synthesis of the technical prowess Aprilia has acquired in top level world championships. A particularity which is still exclusive to the RSV4 RR (and which has always been a characteristic of the previous generation RSV4 models) is the exceptional – and exclusive – possibility of adjustments that the standard equipment chassis is able to offer. In fact, the new Aprilia is the only superbike that allows the rider to adjust the engine position in the frame, the headstock angle, the swingarm pivot and the rear end height, naturally in addition to the fully adjustable suspension. Just like a real racing bike.

The highly sought after and winning structure of the Aprilia RSV4 frame has remained substantially unchanged and uses elements in pressed and cast aluminium capable of guaranteeing exceptional performance, thanks in part to the perfectly balanced torsional rigidity and flexibility values. Optimally centralised masses are just one of the RSV4 chassis strengths. To achieve this result nothing was neglected. The swingarm the same construction technology as the frame but it has been lengthened 14 mm to guarantee better traction and to decrease the tendency for wheelies during the violent acceleration that the new extraordinary characteristics of the powerplant allow. Precisely because of the V4’s significant power increase the chassis and weight distribution configuration have been revamped: the engine is mounted in the lowest possible position allowed by its adjustment range within the frame, whereas the fully adjustable suspension has been fine tuned to guarantee maximum control in extreme riding.

Advanced aPRC

Aprilia RSV4 RR perfects what was already top shelf in the previous versions thanks to a significant improvement to its already exceptional dynamic controls package designed and patented by Aprilia. aPRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) is the well-known control systems package derived directly from the winning technology in the World Superbike championship, the most complete of its kind available on the market today.

On the RSV4 RR, aPRC has been further developed to adjust even better to the new engine and chassis characteristics in order to meet the specific needs of the pleasure or professional rider. The new aPRC system integrates even better with the full Ride-by-Wire multimap precision electronic management of the Aprilia V4.

aPRC, which comes as standard equipment on the Aprilia RSV4 RR, includes:

  • aTC: Aprilia Traction Control, adjustable on the fly (without having to release the throttle) to 8 settings thanks to a practical joystick on the left side of the handlebar, with extremely fine tuned operating logic;
  • aWC: Aprilia Wheelie Control, adjustable to three settings, has been recalibrated for maximum performance at level 1 (the least restrictive setting);
  • aLC: Aprilia Launch Control, the assisted starting system for use on the track only with 3 settings;
  • aQS: Aprilia Quick Shift electronic gearbox for ultra-fast shifting without closing the throttle or using the clutch.

In addition to the second generation aPRC system, RSV4 RR comes from the factory standard with the highly advanced “Race ABS” antilock braking system, designed and developed by Aprilia in collaboration with Bosch to guarantee not only extreme safety on the road, but also the best possible performance on the track. The 9MP ABS unit is top of the line in currently available refinements and technology: the system, which weighs only 2 kg, can be disengaged and is adjustable to 3 settings by easily accessing the control menu on the sophisticated instrument cluster:

  • Level 1: this is dedicated to track use (but it is also approved for street use) and acts on both wheels to guarantee the best possible performance, even in the most intense braking conditions at any speed. It takes nothing away from the pleasure and performance of “extreme” riding.
  • Level 2: this is dedicated to sport riding on the road, acts on both wheels and is combined with an advanced tip over system (RLM – Rear Lift-up Mitigation) which engages progressively based on the vehicle speed.
  • Level 3: this is dedicated to riding on surfaces with poor grip, acts on both wheels and is combined with the tip over system.

Each of the 3 setting levels for Race ABS can be combined with any one of the 3 new engine maps to allow riders with varying experience and skill levels to find the best possible combination.

The new and powerful engine ECU now allows the three maps to be more easily managed, each one of which corresponds to a different engine power output and now also to a dedicated engine brake management map. The two classic engine management logics Track and Sport are now joined by the new Race map, the most extreme and suited for professional use of the bike on the track with engine braking control reduced to a minimum in order to support more abrupt braking. All three maps are more manageable and less aggressive than the previous version, therefore allowing perfect correlation between throttle control and the torque sent to the wheels. This reduces rear tyre wear and makes it possible to better manage the power that the Aprilia V4 is able to develop.

Versions and colours

Aprilia RSV4 RR represents a top shelf technical platform, ready to provide the rider with a “race replica” performance and feeling. As standard equipment it also has all of those features which only the Factory version RSV4 had previously, such as magnesium external housings, oil sump and head covers, a wide range of chassis adjustments and the variable setting intake ducts. Aprilia RSV4 RR is available in two attractive colour schemes, both matte, on a black and grey base (Bucine gray and black Ascari) and a “Race Pack” is also available that includes lightweight forged aluminium wheel rims and more sophisticated Öhlins suspension (shock absorbers, fork and steering damper).

To celebrate the arrival of the new RSV4, Aprilia is also offering a limited edition of 500 numbered units called the RSV4 RF, which comes standard with the Race Pack, as well as a dedicated graphic called “Superpole”.

Telemetry arrives with V4-MP

In the rich accessories catalogue dedicated to the Aprilia RSV4 RR you can now find a highly advanced version of the Aprilia Multimedia Platform which transforms your smartphone into a semi-professional tool with exceptional information capacity. As you know, AMP is the innovative multimedia platform offered exclusively by the Piaggio Group which allows you to connect your vehicle to your smartphone and consequently to the web. With this exceptional application your smartphone becomes an actual sophisticated on board multifunctional computer and the link between the vehicle and the Internet. This is a window to the future which lays the foundation for a new way of looking at communication on two wheels. Thanks to a further development of this fascinating system fine tuned by Aprilia, communication between the bike and smartphone now becomes active: from your smartphone you can change the settings on your RSV4, as well as receive tips in real time on how to improve your performance on the track in complete safety.

  • Adaptive race assistant: this feature provides tips in real time to safely achieve your best lap on the track with your RSV4. Thanks to Aprilia Racing Department simulation technology, you can establish the ideal lap for each track, considering the various grip and rider skill levels. The application compares rider performance in real time and assists by immediately indicating the need to brake or the possibility of opening up the throttle.
