The Ducati Scrambler goes Special at Motor Bike Expo

From 23 to 25 January, Ducati Scrambler will have a surprise in store for the public at the Verona Motor Bike Expo: a world exclusive presentation of the first three Ducati Scrambler specials. These first creations are just a starting point for further joint projects in the future, the aim being to highlight the Ducati Scrambler’s versatility and infinite customisation potential. Right from the day of its unveiling, 30 September 2014 at Intermot in Cologne, the Ducati Scrambler was all over the internet and within just a few hours we’d received numerous customisation proposals from enthusiasts all over the world. The bikes on display at the Motor Bike Expo are the first completed customisations.

Ducati Scrambler is a universe characterised by freedom of expression, sharing and passion. That’s one more reason for entrusting the first three Ducati Scrambler customisations to three Italian excellences in this particular field. Three friends of the Ducati Scrambler team, three craftsmen specialised in hand-crafted work who personalise iconic motorcycles throughout the world.

The three customisers were given a clear brief: each one of them was free to interpret one of the three versions of the Ducati Scrambler according to their own personal style. Deus Ex Machina from Milan put forward their idea for the Full Throttle; Officine Mermaid from Milan interpreted the Urban Enduro in their own special way, while Mr. Martini from Verona created their very own Classic. So, three original bikes, conscientiously prepared down to the very last detail, have been produced, underlining the superlative standards of Italian workmanship in the specials field and the vast potential this bike has for customisation.

Filippo Bassoli – MD of Deus Italy: “We’d been waiting for the Ducati Scrambler for some time: in 2010 we did some drift riding with bikes on the Harold Park horse-race track in Sydney together with our friends from Ducati and back then we promised that a Deus creation would be made by developing one of their models. And today we’ve maintained that promise thanks to the Ducati Scrambler: we finally found a bike made with evident vintage inspiration but with the DNA and technical features of a real motorcycle. These characteristics allowed Emanuele and Peter to follow their instincts, particularly after getting their hands on the bike and dismantling it to reveal a fantastic frame. Our project started from there, the result of free and innovative ideas where the main focus is on the aluminium bodywork, with a single-piece tail, number-plate support and a headlight inspired by speedway bikes. An asymmetric mudguard completes the project, together with lots of little details such as the positioning of the conic filter within the frame, the disc brake and, of course, the dedicated exhaust. The name however comes from Carby, creative director of Deus Australia, who was in Milan at the time; he saw the project when it was almost complete and fell in love with it, naming it Hondo Grattan, after the horse that won everything on the Harold Park race-track. Who knows, in the not-too-distant future, perhaps our bike will end up on that track too.”

Nicola Martini – Customiser at Mr. Martini: “I decided to take part in the project because I was fascinated by the idea of working with this Italian brand and in particular by the opportunity of working with the young, dynamic and easygoing Scrambler team. Thanks to the bike’s versatility, I decided to revolutionise the basic concept, from Ducati Scrambler to Café Racer. The style is reminiscent of American rather than British design, owing partly to the fact that the roots of the original Ducati Scrambler project date from the seventies. Although the style is that of a Café Racer, this bike has a combination of elements that make it unique; In fact, details such as the high exhaust and knobby tyres retain a decidedly Ducati Scrambler flavour. This fusion gave our bike its name: S.C.R. – Scrambler Café Racer. We’ve changed the nose fairing, the tail-piece, the whole of the exhaust, the foot-peg and handlebar mountings and the rear suspension unit and have, of course, given the bike a new colour. The Scrambler Café Racer is in ‘total black’ including the saddle, undertail and timing belt covers.”

Dario Mastroianni – Customiser at Officine Mermaid: “We decided to customise the Ducati Scrambler because we immediately earmarked it as a uniquely convertible Italian bike. We’ve infused it with our unmistakeable Officine Mermaid style, with a kind of rough-and-ready look that’s spartan and basic. We named it using the English word Scratch, to convey the idea of it being scraped or damaged. This can be seen straight away from the fuel tank, which we stripped of paint and treated by hand – a procedure we use only on our most exclusive bikes. The metal mudguards have been left rough (a bit like us) and then hand-brushed at the workshop. We’ve left only what is essential on the bike – anything that wasn’t necessary has been eliminated. Even the exhaust, for example, while derived from the original, has been reduced to a minimum. For the front we’ve chosen a traditional stanchion fork with a wide 21” wheel and an 18” wheel at the back, while the saddle and handlebars are made of vintage green leather with a decidedly Western style. Our Scratch has a main rally-style headlight and a smaller lateral spotlight.”

The world of Ducati Scrambler customisation is accessible to all thanks to a huge range of accessories that can be used to make the bike both original and highly personal. No less than six different versions will be at the Ducati Scrambler stand at the Verona Motor Bike Expo, each with unmistakable Ducati Performance ‘ingredients’: but the potential goes much further. For example chrome-plated fuel tank side-panels are available in black, matt, camouflage and even in carbon fibre. There are various options for the front mudguard and the high number-plate support, tank bags, canvas and waterproof bags, low and high slip-on Termignoni exhausts, headlight rims and mesh covers, dashboard rims, vintage handlebars and mirrors as well as spoked wheels, four versions of saddle and low-slung tapered handlebars.

The Ducati Scrambler Icon, available in yellow and red, is joined by three other versions – Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic – which interpret the spirit of the Ducati Scrambler in different stylistic and functional ways. The Urban Enduro, with its Wild Green colour scheme is aimed at those who love the enduro style and are ready to switch from road to off-road in an instant; the Full Throttle is for the rider who’s fascinated by the flat track racing world and has a penchant for pushing things to the limit while the Classic is for those who love the details and style of the ’70s but don’t want to forgo the riding pleasure and comfort of a contemporary bike.

A record year for Ducati UK and its dealers in 2014

Ducati Motor Holdings recently announced record sales for 2014 with Ducati UK and its dealer network contributing significantly to this overall result.

For Ducati UK it was a record breaking year in many ways. The UK subsidiary achieved 2742 registrations – a 17% increase on the previous year with a small increase in market share. This result was accomplished with consistently high sales throughout the year registering ten year highs in every quarter with March being Ducati UK’s biggest single sales month on record.

These results could not have been achieved without a strong dealer network that provided the highest number of net dealer registrations. Amongst the 32 strong dealer network there was also the highest ever proportion achieving more than 100 units.

These exceptional results by Ducati UK and its dealer network were achieved with an incredible model line-up that included the award winning 899 Panigale. The 899 was the best-selling model in the range and narrowly missed out on being the best-selling supersports bike over 500cc in 2014. UK sales were also buoyed by the introduction of new models such as the Diavel, Monster 821 and Monster 1200 whilst maintaining healthy sales of the Multistrada and the bigger capacity 1199 Panigale.

2014 also saw a significant increase in the number of Ducati models sold on finance as Ducati UK continued to offer affordability through the Ducati TriOptions scheme. Thanks to the brand’s high residual values, Ducati was able to offer low monthly payments across the range and this continues into 2015 with the Scrambler available at £95 per month and the top-selling 899 Panigale at £149 per month.

Tim Maccabee was delighted with the UK performance in 2014 and commented:

“The Motorcycle Market has been tough over the last few years but at Ducati UK we’ve been steadily improving our market position. I think customers appreciate the advances we’ve made, not only in product technology and desirability but also in the associated services such as finance packages and extended service intervals. Our dealer network are also going from strength to strength and join us in looking forward to an even stronger 2015 with the introduction of the new Ducati Scrambler and all new Multistrada and 1299 Panigale which are packed with state-of-the-art technology and features.”

Another record year for Ducati with 45,100 bikes sold in 2014

In 2014 Ducati Motor Holding spa achieved a new sales record by delivering 45,100 bikes to customers, 2% more than in 2013, marking the fifth consecutive year of growth.

This increase also stemmed from the introduction of new products that, despite market uncertainty, made a clear contribution to what has been an outstanding result for Ducati. More specifically, with the introduction of the new Monster 1200 and Monster 821, Monster family sales rose by 31%, with 16,409 new bikes sold. The Superbike family, thanks to the widespread introduction of the 899 Panigale, which scored a +74% sales success with 5,806 bikes delivered to customers, enjoyed an overall growth of 12%, with a total of 9,788 bikes sold in 2014.

North American sales performance was in line with that of 2013, with Mexico experiencing 8% growth. The U.S. continues to be Ducati’s top market, with 8,804 units delivered to customers. Despite difficult market conditions, sales in South America increased considerably, especially in Brazil (+ 74%, 1,174 bikes sold); this was achieved thanks to considerable expansion of the dealership network in that country and the market introduction of the full model range with local CKD production.

In Europe sales slowed a little (-3% with 19,743 bikes), mostly due to challenging conditions on several markets. However, while sales in Italy fell short of those attained the previous year (-14% with 4,284 bikes), other European countries were almost stable, with the UK actually experiencing significant double-digit growth (+16% with 2,742 bikes).

Double-digit growth was also seen in Asia, where Ducati achieved an all-time sales record (+11% with 5,787 bikes). Performance was particularly strong in Thailand (+22% with 3,057 units) and China where sales volumes, with respect to 2013, almost doubled (+97%).

Ducati also succeeded in boosting sales in Australia (+13% with 2,132 bikes) and strengthening its performance in Japan (+1% with 2,558 units)

Production Of The Ducati Scrambler Starts In Bologna

The legendary yellow container has returned to Ducati. Just six months have gone by since the Ducati Scrambler project was first presented to Ducati employees and the Borgo Panigale plant is now, once again, the focus of attention: this time to celebrate the start of production of the new bike, 40 years after the last Ducati Scrambler rolled off the line back in the ‘70s.

For Ducati, the Ducati Scrambler means the birth of a new brand, a new approach to the motorcycling world that looks beyond performance and technology to encompass freedom of expression, fun and shared positivity. To celebrate this new world and the arrival of the first bike, the area at the end of the Ducati Scrambler assembly line hosted the “Land of Joy”, with its green lawn, music, street food (provided by Foodly Street) and, naturally, the yellow container.

Celebrating the production launch of a new bike with employees is a consolidated tradition at Ducati: but with the Ducati Scrambler the event has an even deeper meaning as it fully reflects that “Land of Joy” spirit which characterises the new brand.

In addition to the team that followed its development, the technicians and the workers, the first bike off the line was also greeted by Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, together with Silvano Fini, Manager of the Borgo Panigale plant.

“This first bike is particularly meaningful to us,” commented Claudio Domenicali. “With its ‘Land of Joy’ theme, the Ducati Scrambler brand will be bringing a breath of fresh air and fun to dealerships and will provide a great product that combines modernity with heritage in a way never before seen in the motorcycle industry, a fact that fills us with enormous satisfaction and pride.”

The start of Ducati Scrambler production was also the perfect occasion to release the names of the two winners of the competition announced last 9 June: its purpose was to find, within the company, two protagonists for the new advertising campaign, the new “Franco and Elvira”, the two Ducati employees who starred in the Ducati Scrambler ad campaign of the ’70s. The new faces will, then, be those of Stefano Rendina and Federica Forlani, chosen directly by the employees and destined to symbolise the freshness, originality and joy of this latest Ducati brand.

The Ducati Scrambler will be in dealerships at the end of January in its Icon version.

EICMA 2014 visitors award the Ducati Scrambler “Most Beautiful Bike of Show”

The Ducati Scrambler is the most beautiful bike of the 2014 EICMA show. This decision was made by 43% of more than 10,000 fans who took part in the competition organized every year by Italian magazine “Motociclismo”. The result came from a survey among visitors with a form to be filled out either directly at the show or on its web site. The Ducati Scrambler was the most popular choice, both at the show and online, and has won with almost three times the votes of the second place bike which took 15%.

The prize giving took place at the Motociclismo stand, as the show came to a close, and was attended by Pierfrancesco Caliari, (General Director of Confindustria ANCMA – EICMA), Piero Bacchetti (President of Edisport Editoriale srl and Motociclismo Managing Director), Marco Riccardi (Motociclismo Chief Editor), Andrea Ferraresi (Ducati Design Centre Director) and Julien Clement (Ducati Scrambler Designer). The prize for “Most Beautiful Bike of Show” was the final act after an intense week of exhibitions and events that saw an increase in visitors of approximately 25% compared to 2013, a clear indication of recovery for an important, leading sector such as motorcycles, which is particularly suffering during the current economic crisis.

During the Milan show, the Ducati Scrambler stand was visited by tens of thousands of fans who were able to experience first-hand the joyful and laid-back atmosphere, characterised by the now legendary yellow containers and green lawn, alive with bikes, music and fun. The Ducati Scrambler is, in fact, not just a new motorcycle but a brand that will flank Ducati, and that aims to transmit the joy of bike riding to every generation of biker, with a range for all ages customers, leaving room for creativity and personal freedom of expression.

The extraordinary ease of use of the Ducati Scrambler is down to the skilled balance between its extremely contained weight, just 170 kg dry, an 800 cm³ air-cooled twin cylinder engine equipped with surprising torque even at low speeds and offering 75 hp, a seat height of just 790 mm (that can be further reduced to 770 mm) that allows full control of the bike and a riding position that, thanks to the high and wide handlebar, is particularly comfortable and relaxed.

The Ducati Scrambler is available in four versions: Icon, yellow and red; Urban Enduro, characterised by its “Wild Green” colour, for those who love dirt biking and are always ready for any kind of road; Full Throttle, for fans of “flat track” racing; Classic, for those who love details and 1970s style but don’t want to compromise when it comes to the riding enjoyment and comfort offered by a contemporary bike. Thanks to the wide range of available accessories, each Ducat Scrambler can be personalised even more, allowing fans to express their own creativity. During the Milan show, visitors were also able to appreciate the new Ducati Scrambler apparel collection, which presents numerous ways to experience the Scrambler world to the full. Ducati Scrambler is a new universe, ready to be discovered and explored.

The Ducati Scrambler will be in Ducati Delearships starting from the end of January 2015.

Ducati 2015 World Première

A live streaming feed provided the perfect platform for the Ducati 2015 World Première event, a presentation of the latest bikes in the 2015 range held in Milan on the eve of EICMA 2014. New products, innovative technology and ambitious plans for the future have made Ducati more upbeat and confident than ever. The new range features true ‘dream bikes’, the offspring of Ducati’s renowned engineering brilliance and creativity, ready to thrill the fans who’ll be flocking to the 72nd edition of the EICMA World Motorcycle Fair at the International Milan Trade Fair in Rho, open to the public from 6 to 9 November.

The press conference provided Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, with a perfect opportunity to take stock of both the market and Ducati, and unveil the soon-to-be-released bike range. Despite the difficulties of the complicated, challenging international scenario, 2014 saw Ducati – a part of the Audi Group since 2012 – continue the positive growth trend of the last few years.

The new 2015 bikes clearly demonstrate the application of excellence across the entire Ducati range, an excellence characterised by unique, inimitable Italian style and design that is sure to win acclaim on emerging markets too.

For Ducati, 2015 is a milestone”, stated Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding during the presentation press conference, “as Ducati enthusiasts will be able to choose from a range more technologically advanced and innovatively designed than ever. A sports bike, the 1299 Panigale, that promises to set a whole new on-track standard thanks to raw power and sophisticated electronics, and a new all-round Multistrada 1200 that combines sports handling and performance with smoothness and low fuel consumption at a whole new level. With ‘The Land of Joy’, the Scrambler brand will be providing dealerships with a breath of fresh air and high spirits, offering a bike with a never-before-seen mix of motorcycling modernity and heritage”.

Following the launch of the Ducati Scrambler last month at Intermot, this new Ducati brand and its four innovative, high-appeal versions provided the perfect curtain-raiser at the Elfo Puccini Theatre in Milan, the venue for the Ducati 2015 World Première of the new 2015 models. Afterwards it was the turn of two completely new bikes soon to be presented at EICMA 2014, the 1299 Panigale and new Multistrada 1200, plus three other new versions (Panigale RDiavel Titanium and Monster Stripes) and an array of new accessory and apparel products.

The 2015 Ducati Superbike family presents a major new player in the category: the 1299 Panigale. The latest arrival at the Bologna-based firm, with its 1285 cm3 Superquadro engine, raises the standards once again in terms of performance for supersports bikes on the international market. Thanks to an incredible torque of 144.6 Nm at 8,750 rpm, a dry weight of 166.5 kg, a maximum power of 205 hp at 10,500 rpm and a record-breaking power-to-weight ratio that puts its ahead of all competing road bikes, the 1299 Panigale is now the new benchmark for ultra-high performance bikes.

The new electronic package, specifically designed for the 1299 Panigale and incorporated in the three different Riding Modes, boosts performance even higher. Thanks to the presence of the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), riders can count on Cornering ABS, along with Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and, on the S version, the Öhlins Smart EC, an event-based suspension control system. Moreover, the 1299 Panigale features, for the first time on a road-legal Ducati Superbike, the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS), now usable for down-changing too: this sharpens track performance even further while making the bike easier to use on a daily basis. On the 1299 Panigale, Ducati Traction Control (DTC)Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Engine Brake Control (EBC) are all optimised thanks to an automatic tyre size and final drive ratio calibration system.

It’s also a World Première for the new generation of Multistrada 1200 bikes, featuring the latest Ducati Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine. In what is a first for the motorcycle industry, the DVT engine features a variable valve timing system with independent control of both the intake and exhaust camshafts. This optimises engine performance throughout the power range in all riding conditions, ensuring maximum power at high revs, smooth power delivery, punchy low-rpm torque and low fuel consumption in full compliance with the latest Euro 4 regulations.

Completely new, the Multistrada 1200 is technologically cutting-edge thanks also to the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which dynamically measures roll, yaw and pitch angles as well as their rates of change, thus ensuring performance and safety standards that are unprecedented on a motorcycle. The presence of the IMU leads to substantial improvements in the operation of the ABS system, making it a ‘Cornering’ system capable of controlling braking even on bends where wheel lock could otherwise cause skidding with the bike leaned-over. The IMU platform also enables control of the Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL) housed in the Multistrada 1200’s full LED headlamp, a system in which an additional LED illuminates the inside of the bend to enhance night-time visibility. Moreover, the IMU allows the introduction of Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC): this detects and corrects any front wheel lift to ensure maximum acceleration and grip in complete safety.

All models now feature Electronic Cruise Control, which the rider can set as desired using controls incorporated in the switchgear on the left handlebar. On the S version a Bluetooth module is included as standard: via the Ducati Multimedia System, this allows the bike to be connected to a smartphone for easy multimedia control of key functions (e.g. receiving incoming calls, notification of text messages, or playing music) via the handlebar controls and colour TFT dashboard. Thanks to an iOS/Android app, the Bluetooth connection lets riders use bike data to activate other functions which enhance, extend or let them share their everyday riding or touring experiences via interaction with the ducati.com website and social networks.

For 2015, Ducati also wanted to take the exclusiveness concept that forms the backbone of the Diavel project and raise it to a whole new level. Titanium, carbon, craftsmanship, finishing touches of outstanding quality, a near-manic attention to detail, dedicated design, a limited edition of just 500 bikes: these are the core features of the latest addition to the Diavel family, the Diavel Titanium.

The Ducati 2015 World Première also saw an appearance by the two official MotoGP 2015 flag bearers, Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone, just ahead of their last race of the MotoGP 2014 season in Valencia on Sunday 9 November. After achieving pole position in Japan, taking numerous podium places and significantly cutting end-of-race gaps, the 2014 season can be seen as a highly positive one that augers well for 2015. In the coming year the team, headed by Luigi Dall’Igna, will be competing in MotoGP – a championship that remains central to Ducati’s strategy – with an all-new bike that is the result of this season’s incessant work and investment.

In addition to the new bikes presented by Ducati, 2015 also promises a host of new accessories, special parts and a new apparel collection, which includes both high-grade technical clothing items and the eye-catching apparel and accessory collection dedicated to the Scrambler world; the latter was presented at the W.P. Store showroom in Milan with a special event that saw press, public and enthusiasts flock to the highly original, fun-packed Scrambler Ducati “Land of Joy”.

The Ducati Scrambler sends the internet haywire

The world of Ducati Scrambler has already generated significant interest among fans. On Tuesday 30 September, the day the new Ducati brand was officially presented to the public at Intermot, fans took the scramblerducati.com website by storm to such an extent that they literally sent it haywire. The site went offline for a few minutes before becoming visible once again to the numerous visitors who connected from all over the world to see the four versions of the Ducati Scrambler unveiled for the first time ever at the Cologne motorshow.

The Icon, Full Throttle, Urban Enduro and Classic Ducati Scramblers captured the attention of the large audience attending Intermot press conference, as well as the fans online. The four versions of the Ducati Scrambler have been developed from the concept of maximum personal expression and complete customisation and within a few hours of the motorcycle’s unveiling, numerous interpretations of the Ducati Scrambler had already appeared on the internet.

The Ducati Scrambler has even seduced The Dandy Warhols. The popular rock band from Portland were able to admire the Ducati Scrambler in a special preview and were keen to play an active role in the Ducati Scrambler project with the song “I am free”, which is the soundtrack of the Ducati Scrambler launch video shown in a world preview at Intermot in Cologne. The video is available at http://vimeo.com/107578971.

As well as the Cologne event, Ducati Scrambler is present at the Audi stand at the “Mondial de l’Automobile”, the international car show in Paris. After featuring at the Volkswagen Group Night on 1 October in the run-up to the official opening of the event, it will be on show in the French auto show until 19 October.

There is however much more to the Ducati Scrambler – a world full of fun, sharing and personal expression: over the next few weeks an extensive collection of apparel and accessories will be presented.

Ducati Presents The Ducati Scrambler Brand In Cologne

At the end of the first day of Intermot 2014 – the International Motorcycle Fair being held in Cologne (Germany) from 30 September to 6 October –Ducati finally unveiled one of the most eagerly awaited new bikes to go on show there; the Ducati Scrambler brand immediately became the focus of media and public attention, and the undisputed star of this key German fair.

Re-proposing the yellow containers that characterised the original, highly creative launch phase, Ducati set up a Ducati Scrambler brand-dedicated space in the exhibition area of its Intermot 2014 stand. This symbolic opening-up of a “new world” at the end of the press-dedicated day involved both public and media in an original presentation that was fully in keeping with the language and style of this exciting new concept.

“This year Intermot is especially meaningful for Ducati”, stated Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, during the press conference. “Ducati continues to grow steadily as it has done for several years now. The last 12 months confirm this positive trend with a growth over 5% compared to the previous ones, a new sales record. I’m also particularly proud to be celebrating, here at Intermot, Ducati’s historic win in the German Superbike Championship where the performance of the 1199 Panigale R has allowed us to take both the Constructors and Riders title – thanks to the prowess of Xavi Fores and Max Neukirchner.”

“Presenting the new Ducati Scrambler brand means for us opening the doors to an entirely new, fascinating, and absolutely contemporary world”, said Cristiano Silei, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Ducati Motor Holding, during the unveiling of the new bikes. “We have reinterpreted an iconic motorcycle, part of our history for more than 50 years, in a fully modern way, designing and building the Ducati Scrambler as if we’d never stopped making it. The four bikes of the Ducati Scrambler family represent starting points on a path to personalisation that will make every single Ducati Scrambler a unique, free-spirited bike as individual as the person riding it.”

The waiting is finally over. The Ducati Scrambler is finally out of the yellow container that has so jealously guarded it over the last few months and is now – after the previews granted to employees and Ducatisti at World Ducati Week 2014 – officially ready. This is more than just a new bike: it’s a whole new world, one that expresses itself via a range of options and versions that provide a starting point for satisfying the different needs and wants of individual motorcyclists.

The Ducati Scrambler is a contemporary bike that expresses the pure essence of motorcycling. Tried and tested materials such as the aluminium of the rear swingarm and engine covers and the steel of the teardrop tank and frame are combined with new-generation components such as front and rear LED lighting and LCD instruments.

Wide handlebars and a long seat provide a comfortable, relaxed riding position and, together with the low weight, low centre of gravity and slightly knobby tyres, ensure pure riding fun whatever the situation.

“Post-heritage” design gives a contemporary take on the iconic bike built by Ducati back in the 60s and 70s. This Ducati Scrambler, though, is no retro bike: it is, rather, intended to be just how the legendary Bologna-built motorcycle would be today if Ducati had never stopped building it.

The Icon version, in yellow and red, is joined by three others – Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic – each offering its own style and performance-related interpretation of the Scrambler spirit. The Urban Enduro, with its “Wild Green” paintjob, is for enduro style enthusiasts and ready to switch from city streets to country backroads in an instant. The Full Throttle is for riders enthralled by the flat-track racing world who have a penchant for pushing things to the limit. And the Classic is for devotees to details and a 1970s look who want the uncompromising riding pleasure and comfort of a modern-day bike.

The headlamp, together with the tank, forms a key part of the Ducati Scrambler look. Rounded, classically designed yet extremely modern (i.e. post-heritage) it features a glass parabola and an ultra-modern LED light guide around the rim that acts as a side light.

Seat and tank have been carefully designed to give the Ducati Scrambler appealing proportions. A compact bike, the Ducati Scrambler instils confidence from the very moment you set eyes on it. It’s been sized to make it accessible to all motorcyclists while the long seat maximises comfort and can also accommodate a passenger comfortably.

An oil and air-cooled L-twin two-valve 803 cc engine powers the Ducati Scrambler; it has an 88 mm bore, a 66 mm stroke and has been redesigned to give smooth acceleration throughout the rev range.

Moreover, thanks to a vast range of apparel and bike accessories, to be presented in November, the Ducati Scrambler offers a virtually unlimited range of exclusive personalisation and lifestyle options.

The Ducati Scrambler name has much in common with the verb to scramble – mixing up, blending, letting the imagination run free, sharing with others. The Ducati Scrambler is the two-wheeled alter ego of those who ride it, a cultural movement in and of itself. It’s free-spirited, positive and anti-conformist, open to encounters with other philosophies and styles. Ducati Scrambler isn’t just a bike, it’s a world.

The Ducati Scrambler will be in Ducati Dealerships starting form the end of January 2015 and the first of the four versions to become available will be the Icon.

Ducati discloses new details on the Scrambler via the internet in an original, fun video

It was 1962 when Ducati produced the first Scrambler, specially designed to respond to the needs of the American market. An unquestionably original bike, it was publicized using colour images that were distinctly unconventional for the time. The Scrambler arrived in Italy a few years later, in 1968, and was an immediate success.

It was then that Ducati came up with the idea of using some of its own employees in the advertising campaign. The outcome was an iconic shot showing the now-famous “Franco and Elvira” astride this classic Ducati bike. At the time he was working at Ducati as a test rider and she – easily as beautiful as any professional model – was working in administration.

These two icons, then, just had to be the leading characters in a 3-episode web series made using stop-motion animation. The videos – the plasticine protagonists of which were hand-made by three talented nineteen-years-olds from Bologna – tell an imaginative story of how the Scrambler Ducati ended up in the present day.

Franco, a man from 2078, is catapulted by a time machine back to the Woodstock festival of August 1969 where he meets and falls in love with both Scrambler Ducati and Elvira. They joyously elope on the bike, yet before the two can even kiss the time machine hurls them forwards to the present day, to 2014. Franco and Elvira find themselves directly in front of the fabulous “yellow container” – first visited by Ducati employees and then the enthusiasts who flocked to WDW 2014 – from which they exit astride the new Scrambler Ducati.

The third and last video of the series, just released on http://vimeo.com/102457898 and the Scrambler Ducati Facebook page, brings the web series to a close and innovatively reveals the lines of this latest Bologna-built bike.

The three “Franco & Elvira Story” videos include all the key aspects of the inspired marketing campaign Ducati has put together to promote the new Scrambler. Firstly, there is the involvement of employees (just as the original Franco and Elvira were), the first to see the prototype of the new bike. Then there is the subsequent development of the idea, as seen in the “Land of Joy” area at WDW2014, which hosted the “yellow container” to give Ducatisti an exclusive sneak preview of the Scrambler Ducati. Lastly, there is Franco’s moustache – a “must-have” at the WDW Scrambler Beach Party on 18 July – which is set to become the light-hearted symbol of the new bike. Franco and Elvira thus bring the Scrambler into the present day and remain, almost fifty years on, the bike’s leading promoters.

Yet the new Scrambler is no replica of its predecessor but, rather, a contemporary reinterpretation of it. This is no vintage motorcycle: it is, instead, truly modern, intended to be just how the legendary bike would be today if Ducati had never stopped building it.

For the time being, then, enthusiasts can enjoy the animated imagery and excellent artistry of this last video, but they won’t have to wait much longer to get a look at the real thing! The Scrambler Ducati, in fact, will be officially presented on 30September during Intermot 2014 (the international motorcycle fair held in Cologne, Germany), ready for its subsequent arrival at Ducati Stores all over the world early in 2015.

In the meantime, fans can keep up to speed with all the latest Scrambler developments by going to http://www.scramblerducati.com/ or the Scrambler Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/scramblerducati and share the content through #scramblerducati or #scrambleryouare.

Ducati riders thrill the WDW2014 public with the Drag Race by Tudor

It’s been yet another day of gusto, shows and thrills for the thousands of Ducatisti who, since Friday 18 July, have peacefully invaded the Romagna Riviera and the “Marco Simonceli” Misano World Circuit to launch WDW2014, the fabulous bi-annual rally that brings together everyone from the worldwide Ducati Community.

The Misano paddock is packed with motorcycles and Ducatisti who have come to the Riviera from 56 countries and 5 continents, all sharing the same passion for Bologna-built Ducati motorcycles.

The event is now getting ready for the last of the three days and WDW2014 is lined up to be a huge success, with attendance likely to exceed the 65,000 of the previous edition, clear confirmation of the brand’s strong appeal and the loyalty and fervour of its fans.

In addition to the numerous activities in the event programme, today’s highlight was the Drag Race by Tudor which brought the track day to an end and saw Ducati Riders (MotoGP and SBK) and legendary names from international competition battle it out on powerful Ducati Diavel Carbon motorcycles. A unique, head-to-head showdown, made up of simple yet thrilling ingredients to quench the fans’ burning thirst for speed.

Following yesterday’s first round heats, which saw the Superbike official test rider Matteo Baiocco and the ex Superbike rider Regis Laconi clinch a place in the finals, today the stopwatch declared the absolute winner. As expected, the competition came alive as soon as the riders involved in the Diavel Drag Race by Tudor were out of the pits. Troy Bayliss, Pierfrancesco Chili, Andrea Dovizioso, Carl Fogarty, Davide Giugliano, Yonny Hernandez, Andrea Iannone, Michele Pirro and Manuel Poggiali held nothing back and gave it their all to put on a stunning show for the crowds in the paddocks and grandstands at Misano.

The qualifying heats were followed by the final round in which Laconi and Baiocco produced a thrilling clash that saw Laconi winning the duel against the Italian, stopping the clock at a time of 6”681 to score a photo-finish victory. Andrea Dovizioso, who signed the renewal contract with Ducati Team for a further two years, won the fight for the third position against Michele Pirro, the Ducati MotoGP test rider.

After the intense day on the track, thousands of Ducatisti stayed around to enjoy the tasty “Rustida”, an awesome barbecue over 200 metres long organised on the track by the lifeguards who work along the Riviera. After this welcome break to refuel with food, it was time for the sensational Racetrack Show. The circuit provided a perfect stage for the terrific stunt riders show and a ride-past of motorcycling legends, past and present. To end the evening there was a late-night firework display, closing out the day in a crescendo of colour and sound.

The grand finale is set for Sunday July 20 with thousands more enthusiasts expected to arrive from all over the world, plenty of on-track events, great shows, partying, fun and above all, genuine Ducati passion of the sort that only real Ducatisti know how to express and share at events like these.

World Ducati Week 2014: a resounding success

The eighth edition of World Ducati Week, the international, bi-annual Ducati gathering that attracts countless enthusiasts from the global Ducati community, has been an outstanding success, able to thrill the tens of thousands of motorcyclists who filled the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 July in a sign of loyalty, passion and love for Ducati and the legendary bikes built in Borgo Panigale, Bologna, Italy.

Their passion is best illustrated by the figures: some 65,000 people attended this 3-day edition, equalling the record set back in 2012 when WDW was a 4-day event. Participants arrived from five continents and 56 different countries. And that’s not all: 60% of attendees at WDW2014 might have been Italian, but it’s the other 40% who confirm Ducati’s truly global appeal. Some Ducatisti had made their way here from the USA, Europe, Australia, Russia and India. Some had travelled from as far away as Brazil, China and Malaysia. Others, amazingly, came from Gabon, Iceland and Nepal, all united by a “Desmo” passion that, in an event of this magnitude, is off the scale.

Three great days, the most intense of which was Saturday 19 July, the day that drew in the biggest crowds. In addition to the wide variety of events, the highlight of the day was the final showdown of the Diavel Drag Race by Tudor which saw Ducati Corse riders (MotoGP and SBK) battle it out on the starting straight of the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit on powerful Ducati Diavel Carbon bikes. Victory was claimed by Regis Laconi (former official Ducati SBK rider), with Matteo Baiocco (current Ducati SBK test rider) the runner-up. Third place went to Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), fourth to Michele Pirro (test rider for Ducati Team in MotoGP). It was an exhilarating competition, placing pros of the highest calibre, past and present, head to head: Troy Bayliss, Carlos Checa, Andrea Iannone, Yonny Hernandez, Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies together with “King” Carl Fogarty and Pierfrancesco Chili.

Immediately after the race, in front of a crowd estimated to be over 10,000 strong, all the riders, plus key management – led by Ducati Motor Holding CEO, Claudio Domenicali, and Audi CEO, Rupert Stadler – saluted the public in an impressive ride-past. Afterwards, this last amazing night on the circuit was brought to a close by a thrilling light and sound show.

The final day of this eighth WDW saw thousands of Ducatisti and their bikes once again flood into the paddock of the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit, all eager to enjoy their last day before heading home in the comforting knowledge that they’ll all be back together again in two years’ time for WDW2016.

As expected, the Scrambler area was a huge success, arousing considerable interest. This gave enthusiasts attending WDW2014 an exclusive opportunity to enjoy a world premiere of the long-awaited Scrambler Ducati. This latest Ducati motorcycle, expected to arrive in stores early in 2015, attracted an uninterrupted procession of onlookers, with some Ducatisti waiting hours under the scorching sun to enter the famous “yellow container” and get a sneak preview (with a strictly no-photos, no-filming protocol) of the prototype.

Yet WDW2014 was much, much more. In addition to numerous events, the paddock area of the “Marco Simoncelli” World Misano Circuit also hosted the Superbike Celebration, a display of the bikes that have made Ducati history in the World Superbike Championship. There were stuntman shows, riding courses, a chance to road test the new Monster 821, autograph sessions with Ducati Corse champions (past and present) plus on-track tests with the fantastic Audi R8 V10 and the new Lamborghini Huracán, not to mention a lot of partying for everyone.

Yet the eighth edition of World Ducati Week was essentially a peaceful, vibrantly coloured “invasion” of both the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit and the entire Romagnola Riviera, with the desmodromic roar of countless Ducati motorcycles providing the soundtrack to an exceptional international event.

These are the “figures” for which this excellent eighth edition of WDW will be remembered:

  • 65,000 people attended the circuit over three days
  • A total of 10,192 laps were made by bikes and cars during WDW2014
  • 72,000 photos were taken by staff photographers

  •  A 200-metre-long BBQ – the famous “Rustida” – was set up in the Misano World Circuit pit lane
  • 60 lifeguards from the Romagnola Riviera and 25 Ducati Managers cooked the piadina and sausages consumed by the WDW2014 public at the “Rustida”
  • 58 different on-track events and shows took place over the three days
  • 18’20” was the time taken by the procession of Ducati bikes to exit the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit and form the “parade” heading for Riccione

  • 7,000 digital contributions were posted on wdwlive.ducati.com during WDW2014
  • The competitors in the Drag Race by Tudor possessed no less than 11 world championship titles (4 WSBK, 2 Superstock, 2 Supersport, 2 World 125 Championships, 1 World 250 Championship) + 4 Italian titles (2 Superstock and 2 Superbike)
  • 50 Monster 821 bikes were ridden by 50 employees during the Racetrack Show
  • Over 700 test rides of the new Monster 821 were completed during WDW2014
  • 118 D.O.C. Presidents from 26 countries attended WDW2014

  • There were 360 minutes of live streaming on the Ducati YouTube channel
  • The tread was taken off 16 Pirelli “Diablo Rosso II” tyres in the burn-out at the end of the Diavel Drag Race by Tudor
  • In 35 hours in the Scrambler area:
    • 4,000 people saw the new Scrambler Ducati
    • 3,500 games of ping-pong and billiards were played
    • 20,000 Scrambler bracelets and 6,000 badges were given away
    • 3,000 false moustaches and 3,000 flower necklaces were distributed at the “Scrambler beach party”
    • 803 limited-edition T-Shirts were sold
    • 20 hours of live music were played by “Recrive”
  • 240 journalists (130 Italian and 110 foreign) were present

WDW2014 enjoyed outstanding support from its Main Partners, TUDOR, Termignoni and TIM, plus many other Official Partners, including top brands such as Pirelli, Bosch, Shell and Canon. There was also a long list of Technical Partners: Arai, Brembo, Cartorama, Dainese, Element Case, Garmin, Gates, Givi and Samauto.

Once again, WDW was able to count on the constructive help of the Town Councils of Misano, Cattolica Riccione and the administration of the Republic of San Marino, who organised essential local logistics and events for Ducatisti arriving from all over the planet. Last but certainly not least, a key role was played by the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit, which has hosted every edition of WDW since the very first

Special preview of new Hypermotard SP colour scheme at WDW2014

Ducati wanted to give all the Ducatisti and enthusiasts attending WDW2014 a special treat with a world-first preview of the new colour scheme for the Hypermotard SP. The SP version, the most extreme in the Hypermotard family, features all the technical characteristics one expects from a Hypermotard and improves on them further to satisfy even the most expert, demanding riders who have a preference for peak performance riding. Moreover, the new racy red-white colour scheme gives the Hypermotard SP a harder-hitting look

Being a thoroughbred sport bike, the Hypermotard SP just had to be unveiled by two exceptional endorsers: three-times world SBK champion Troy Bayliss, who won the 2001, 2006 and 2008 championships on three different Ducati Superbike models, and the 2011 World Superbike Champion Carlos Checa. Today, at the International Village in the “Marco Simoncelli” Misano World Circuit paddocks, they revealed this superb bike in front of a packed WDW audience.

The Hypermotard SP, like all the bikes in the family, features the latest-generation 110 hp Ducati Testastretta 11° 821 cc engine and a trellis frame. The SP model, in pure racing style, features dedicated Riding Modes (Race 110 hp – “HIGH”, Sport 110 hp – “MEDIUM” and Wet 75 hp – “LOW”) taken from the 1199 Panigale and is equipped with increased-travel suspension that gives it a truly supermotard set-up, allowing for thrilling lean angles of up to 47.5°. All safely too, because the Hypermotard SP comes as standard with the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) featuring 3-level ABS and 8-level Ducati Traction Control derived from the 1199 Panigale.

The Hypermotard SP has a pressurized Marzocchi upside-down 50 mm front fork; fully adjustable, this has a travel of 185 mm and ensures outstanding performance plus great handling. The suspension system also mounts a fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock, with built-in “gas” tank, giving a rear wheel travel of 175 mm.

The Hypermotard SP is also equipped with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyre, 120/70 x 17 at the front and a 180/55 x 17 at the rear. It also sports Marchesini 3-spoke forged aluminium wheels, the design of which has also been taken from the 1199 Panigale S, highlighting the decidedly high-performance nature of the SP model even further.

The SP version is completed by other exclusive components: the variable-section handlebars, the carbon fibre front mudguard and engine covers, the front radial pump with adjustable 5-position lever and the seat.

These extraordinary technical specifications help ensure a dry weight of just 171 kg, while the racing-like chassis set-up of the Hypermotard SP is highlighted by the seat height of 890 mm: nevertheless, a 20 mm lower seat is available on request as a Ducati accessory.

The Hypermotard SP with the new colour scheme will be available from dealers in September at the same price as the previous version. A restricted-power version is also available at the same price.

WDW2014 Drag Race confirmed: the Ducati riders are ready for the challenge

As the start of World Ducati Week 2014 approaches, news has it that it is going to be an incredible show no one would want to miss. One of the many initiatives that are being organised for the thousands of fans ready to invade Romagnola’s Riviera district and the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” is the Drag Race, a competition which involves Ducati riders and which has to be the emotional highlight of the show and the real adrenaline booster.

For the very first time, WDW participants will be able to enjoy a double dose of the Drag Race. The eighth edition of the huge Ducati gathering will host the Drag Race on two days, Friday 18 and Saturday 19 July starting at 17:45. The showdown is set to happen along the starting straight of the racetrack, and this time the race is open to current Ducati competition riders as well as International living legends from the world of motorcycle racing who were in some way connected with the successful track record of the red bikes from “Borgo Panigale” in terms of sport competition.

The challenge is on and set for Friday 18 July at 17:45 for the first round of the Drag Race; the final showdown will be held the next day, Saturday 19 July, same time, same place. Ready to enjoy the event within the event, the thousands of spectators expected at World Ducati Week 2014 will turn the appointment in Misano into the most unforgettable and unique show as they watch the emotionally charged challenge.

As is customary, the Drag Race will be organised in collaboration with the Italian Motorcycling Federation (FMI) and is set to be a true battle of speed, going from standstill to the finish line, 400 metres down the straight. After the warm up including the practice sessions and qualifying round, in which each rider will have a single attempt at notching up the best time, things will get serious during head-to-head racing on the 162hp DIAVEL CARBON. Kitted out specially for the occasion in Drag Race livery, higher performance is ensured thanks to the complete set of Termignoni exhausts.

The Drag Race will give the WDW2014 public the chance to watch a unique challenge involving all the official Ducati riders currently taking part in all the international motorcycling sports championships alongside the names that have written motorcycling competition history and of course the history of Ducati.

Ready to compete for a win in the Drag Race will be the entire Ducati MotoGP Team, featuring Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow, together with Ducati MotoGP Factory test rider Michele Pirro, Ducati Superbike Team riders Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies, Ducati’s WSBK test rider Matteo Baiocco, the MotoGP Pramac Team with its official Ducati riders Andrea Iannone and Yonny Hernandez, the Althea Racing Team’s Niccolò Canepa, and Manuel Poggiali, who currently competes for the Barni Racing Team in the Italian Roadrace Championship (CIV). Also competing to win the Drag Race will be a line-up of famous names from the history of international motorcycling competitions and Ducati such as 2001-2006-2008 World Superbike Champion (and authentic idol for the Ducatisti) Troy Bayliss, 2011 World Superbike Champion (and Ducati brand Ambassador) Carlos Checa, much loved former official SBK riders Ruben Xaus and Régis Laconi, hall-of-fame SBK rider “Frankie” Chili, and finally the great Carl Fogarty, a motorcycling myth who has won more Superbike titles than anyone else.

TUDOR, the Swiss manufacturer of sports watches, already one of the main sponsors of this eighth edition of the World Ducati Week, will be the “Official Timing Partner” of the Drag Race, ensuring everything required to proclaim the official winner.

A Ducati supplier for over 20 years, Termignoni will be the technical partner for the much-awaited Drag Race, equipping each Diavel Carbon with a complete racing exhaust. This full exhaust system ends with a carbon fiber muffler with aluminium end-caps, high-tech, ultra-light materials that enhance the looks of the Diavel Carbon while also ensuring increased power even in the lower rpm range, leading to unprecedented levels of racing performance.

Once Saturday’s breathtaking Drag Race final round is over, the winner of this year’s edition will step onto the WDW2014 podium. All  riders will then see off the evening by acknowledging the public in the stands, ready to live out the rest of Saturday night’s big evening show at the World Ducati Week.

WDW2014 visitors will also be able to purchase Termignoni systems for their Ducatis, fitted by the company’s technical assistance service. Born in Bologna, remembered in the hearts of motorcyclists and ready to return in 2015 – The Ducati Scrambler

Ducati gave its Bologna factory employees a surprise treat as they arrived for work on Monday, 9 June, with a private viewing of the prototype Scrambler intended for launch in 2015. Setting a characteristic ambience for the new model, workers arrived to discover music and a beach atmosphere with surfboards, street food and a big yellow container in which they were able view the new model undercover.

Following many years of rumour and speculation around the project, Ducati’s creative internal stunt at the Italian manufacturer’s headquarters stylishly confirms the existence of the Ducati Scrambler with the added promise that it will be available from early 2015 onwards.

Ducati’s decision to announce the arrival of the new model to its employees first, underlines the appreciation it has of its workforce, regarding it as the beating heart of the company. With them, project personnel are creating an entire world around the Scrambler with, as their impromptu beach suggested, a lifestyle of fun, creativity and free expression.

While the new Scrambler is created from the same core values that contributed to an important period of the company’s history during the 60s and 70s, it seems set to reinterpret the original model in an entirely up-to-date way. Confirmation of the Scrambler will undoubtedly delight the thousands of fans who have been dreaming of such a project for many years.

Non-conformist, accessible and essential, the new Ducati Scrambler is said to represent the perfect combination of the traditional and contemporary, while returning to the pure essence of motorcycling – two wheels, wide handlebars, a simple engine and a lot of fun.

As yet no official images have been released and none of the lucky Ducati employees were allowed to take photos inside the big yellow viewing container, but Ducati confirms the new Scrambler will finally break cover this autumn and become available from early 2015 in Ducati Stores worldwide.

Those hungry for more information and who wish to follow the fascinating journey through the development of the project can do so on the dedicated website http://www.scramblerducati.com or gather content via the #scramblerducati hashtag.

Having delivered over 290,000 Monsters since the original concept more than 20 years ago, the essential new model maintains its stylish character using the new chassis and muscular styling of the Monster 1200, designed with premium components fully integrated with Ducati’s latest technologies.

Powered by the latest edition of Ducati’s highly successful 821 Testastretta 11° engine, the highly accessible new Monster combines 112hp and 65.9ft-lb of torque with an impressively lightweight 179.5kg – 395.7lb (dry weight) overall package. This stylish mix of minimalism and performance paves the way back to the original essence of the Monster concept, where less-is-more and made-in-Italy combine to create a motorcycle lifestyle.

High-spec brakes, excellent suspension and stylish componentry merge with Ducati’s best-yet ergonomics to offer the Italian manufacturer’s most attractive mid-range Monster ever. Super comfortable and with an innovative adjustable seat height, the model also combines 8-level traction control, 3-level ABS and 3-level Ride-by-Wire into Ducati’s user-friendly, press-button Riding Modes.

The Monster 821 uses next generation technologies to create an enhanced rider/motorcycle relationship, delivering a high-adrenaline experience while constantly reassuring with the feeling of complete control and ergonomic integration.

Available in UK Ducati Dealerships from July 2014 onwards, the Monster 821 Dark is presented in dark stealth with black frame and black wheels with an SRP of £8,500, while the Monster 821 is dressed in Ducati red with red frame and black wheels or star white silk with red frame and matte red wheels with an SRP of £8700. Both red and white liveries are equipped with colour-matched single-seat covers. The brand new model is also made available to restricted license holders with the specially regulated power versions of 25kw for Switzerland and 35kw for other participating countries.
