Indian Motorcycle Introduces 2020 Roadmaster Elite

, America’s First Motorcycle Company, today announced the return of the Roadmaster Elite. As Indian Motorcycle’s premier touring machine, the 2020 Roadmaster Elite takes craftsmanship to a whole new level and delivers a truly one-of-a-kind touring experience. Powered by the Thunder Stroke 116 engine, the 2020 model pairs modern touring amenities with iconic Indian Motorcycle styling.

Each and every Roadmaster Elite undergoes a meticulous paint process that takes more than 30 hours to complete and is finished by hand. The new Thunder Black Vivid Crystal over Gunmetal Flake paint with off-set red pinstripes and exclusive red elite badging with matching push-rod tubes delivers a new, meaner and sportier look. The 19-inch precision machined wheel under the valanced front fender adds to this look, while still maintaining a classic aesthetic.

While a custom-inspired paint scheme means riders will be seen, an upgraded 600-watt PowerBand Audio Plus system means riders will be heard. The PowerBand Audio Plus system delivers exceptional sound and clarity from high-output fairing, trunk, and saddlebag speakers that are 50 percent louder than the stock audio system offered on the 2020 Roadmaster and Roadmaster Dark Horse. The PowerBand Audio Plus system features an enhanced nine-band dynamic equalizer that auto-adjusts specific frequencies to the optimal level at different vehicle speeds to compensate for road, wind, and engine noise to deliver crystal clear sound quality in every riding condition.

“The Roadmaster itself delivers the ultimate touring experience, but the Roadmaster Elite takes that experience to an even higher level, designed specifically for riders who pay attention to each and every detail,” said Reid Wilson, Vice President for Indian Motorcycle. “Whether riding around town or across the country, the Roadmaster Elite is a statement maker – packed with all the modern touring amenities riders would ever need or want, with an aesthetic that is captivating.”

As Indian Motorcycle’s most powerful air-cooled engine, the Thunder Stroke 116 (1890cc) features a new high-flow cylinder head that delivers class-leading performance with 168 Nm of torque. Additionally, three selectable ride modes, including Tour, Standard and Sport, allow riders to adjust the bike’s throttle response to fit their riding preferences. The throttle map for each ride mode was designed with a specific application in mind, resulting in one motorcycle with three distinct personalities.

Further enhancing the ride is the Indian Motorcycle Ride Command system – the largest, fastest, most customizable infotainment system on two wheels. The seven-inch, glove-compatible touchscreen features turn-by-turn navigation*, customisable rider information screens, Bluetooth® compatibility, and pairs with the Indian Motorcycle Ride Command mobile app for remote accessibility to key vehicle information. Riders can also plan a ride route with up to 100 points on the Ride Command website and wirelessly transfer it to the bike via Bluetooth.

As standard equipment, the 2020 Roadmaster Elite packs premium touring amenities riders have come to expect from an Indian Roadmaster, including a tank-mounted analogue fuel and volt meters, rear cylinder deactivation and full Pathfinder LED lighting with driving lights. With a genuine leather two-up touring seat with individual heating for both the rider and passenger, passenger armrests, heated handgrips, and a power-adjustable flare windscreen, the Roadmaster Elite delivers unmatched comfort and an unparalleled riding experience. Standard amenities include, ABS, keyless ignition, weatherproof and remote-locking saddlebags, a spacious trunk that fits two full face helmets, and over 140 litres of storage space.

‘Hasty Flaming Buffalo’ By Luuc Muis Revealed At Bigtwin Bikeshow

Indian Motorcycle Benelux revealed the winning ‘Project Scout Bobber’ contest build at the Bigtwin Bikeshow and Expo earlier this month. ‘Hasty Flaming Buffalo’, by Dutch designer Luuc Muis of LM Creations, is a beautifully elegant blend of modern technology and the classic lines of a 1910 Indian board-track racer.

Open to amateur and professional builders from across the region, the Indian Motorcycle Custom Contest: ‘Project Scout Bobber’ saw three finalists chosen by a professional jury put forward to a public Facebook vote. Luuc’s design proved so popular that he became the clear leader with over 54% of the votes and won the opportunity to create his unique vision.

Luuc’s design for ‘Hasty Flaming Buffalo’ draws on the rich and successful history of Indian Motorcycle racing, particularly the board track racers of the early 1900s. With their innovative designs, Indian Motorcycle had a big technological advantage at the Motordromes, the timber board tracks appearing all over America at the time, and riders like Jake de Rosier became household names for their feats on these risky circuits.

“As an industrial product designer, this contest was something I had to enter. I wanted to explore the idea that, if over 100 years of motorcycling, materials and techniques had developed but visual design hadn’t, what would that look like,” says Luuc. “To be told that my design had won, and I now had the opportunity to explore the concept fully was both really exciting but also quite intimidating, especially with the short deadline to complete the build.”

Announced as the winner in the middle of June, Luuc had just 20 weeks to turn his design into reality for the November 1st unveiling, the opening day of the BigTwin Expo. With just the engine and axles retained from the original Scout Bobber, completing the build alongside working his normal day job meant many late nights to stay on schedule.

Blending his 2D design with a 3D scan of the Scout Bobber engine to refine his frame design, Luuc constructed the frame from aluminium tubing and parts machined in aluminium by Scheffers Engineering in Norway. The gorgeous handmade tank also forms part of the frame and houses the airbox and electronic components to achieve the clean minimalist look inspired by the early Indian Motorcycle board track racers.

Luuc was able to attract great partners to the project and Hasty Flaming Buffalo benefits from exceptional bespoke parts including:

• Bespoke exhaust system by Akrapovic
• CeraCarbon Racing full carbon forks with diamond cut ceramic tubes
• One-off wheel rims by JSR Service
• Moto-Master Brakes and Brembo calipers
• Bespoke seat by Old Dutch Leatherworks
• One-off air filter by DNA Performance Filters
• Mini indicators and rear light/brake light supplied by Kellermans

“When we first saw the entries for this contest, we knew that the jury was going to have a very hard time choosing just three finalists to go to the public vote,” says Lynda Provoost, Marketing Manager Indian Motorcycle Benelux. “The creativity that went into all of the entries was outstanding, and I think you can see from Luuc’s winning build that the Benelux is a force to be reckoned with in the world of custom motorcycles. To take a Scout Bobber and transform it to such a high standard into beautiful tribute to the heritage of Indian Motorcycle and the early riders of motorcycle sport has exceeded our hopes for this contest.”</strong

‘Hasty Flaming Buffalo’ will make its next public appearances at Custombike in Bad Salzuflen (December 5-7), the Autosalon in Belgium (January 10-19) and Motorbeurs Utrecht in the Netherlands (February 20-23).

Indian Motorcycle Pushes American V-Twins Forward With The All-New 2020 Challenger

The bar for American motorcycles has officially been elevated. Indian Motorcycle, America’s First Motorcycle Company, has dramatically redefined the American bagger with its introduction of the 2020 Indian Challenger – a striking combination of American muscle, next-level technology, and premium comfort to deliver a truly unmatched riding experience.

Designed for the most knowledgeable and discerning riders, Indian designers stopped at nothing to ensure that the Challenger out-classed its competition and delivered the highest performing, fully loaded bagger on the market.

“The Indian Challenger delivers a new level of performance for riders who understand that the seemingly small details make a huge difference,” said Reid Wilson, Vice President of Indian Motorcycle. “Our mindset was to leave no stone unturned and deliver a bagger that exceeds the standards in categories like power, handling, comfort, and technology.”

It starts with the all-new Indian PowerPlus engine, Indian’s first liquid-cooled large displacement motor (1769 cc/108 cubic-inch, 60-degree V-twin) that packs a best-in-class 122 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque. The new powertrain also features a six-speed transmission with true overdrive, assist clutch to reduce clutch effort, and hydraulic valve lash adjusters and camshaft chain tensioners for a low maintenance, reliable powerplant. The PowerPlus’ overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder deliver incredible V-twin performance and power. Riders can customise the bike’s throttle mapping by selecting one of three ride modes, including Rain, Standard and Sport – resulting in one motorcycle with three distinct performance personalities. Each ride mode has been engineered with its own distinct traction control setting to align with each mode’s specific throttle mapping.

The Challenger features all the premium touring amenities riders expect from Indian Motorcycle, including electronic cruise control, full LED lighting, a long-haul seat, ABS, keyless ignition, and weatherproof saddlebags with over 68 litres of storage space. In addition, a modern and aggressively styled chassis-mounted fairing sits over the Challenger’s inverted front suspension. This, combined with the bike’s lightweight cast aluminium frame and hydraulically adjustable FOX® rear shock, delivers unrivalled handling and rock-solid stability.

Race-spec radially-mounted Brembo® brakes provide superior stopping power, and new performance touring Metzeler® Cruisetec® tyres offer supreme traction. Challenger’s chassis-mounted fairing features an adjustable windscreen with nearly three inches of travel and adjustable air vents – delivering unprecedented rider protection from all elements. With menacing LED running lights, a central headlamp, and a redesigned and modernised Indian Motorcycle headdress adorning its front fender, the Challenger presents an unmistakable profile day and night.

A true state-of-the-art bagger, the Challenger Limited and Challenger Dark Horse are equipped with Indian Motorcycle’s intuitive Smart Lean Technology™, keeping riders confidently grounded by utilising a Bosch IMU to add cornering pre-control to the dynamic traction control and ABS, as well as Drag Torque Control. These models also feature Indian RideCommand, the largest, most-customisable touchscreen infotainment system on two wheels. The Challenger’s seven-inch Ride Command system features, key vehicle information, Bluetooth® and USB mobile pairing, and an all-new quad-core processor for faster response.

For its inaugural year, the Challenger lineup is accompanied by a variety of Indian Motorcycle Authentic Accessories that allow riders to upgrade their ride based on their preferences. With the Indian Challenger Rogue Collection, riders can and add premium blacked-out styling with a gloss black mid-rise handlebar, a tinted curved windshield and gloss black front highway bars.

For an added measure of comfort over longer hauls there’s the Indian Challenger Tour Collection, including a 406mm (16-inch) windshield, quick release passenger sissy bar, passenger backrest and passenger floorboards, an extended reach seat, rider backrest pad, infinite highway pegs and pinnacle heel shifter. Riders can also upgrade the Indian Challenger’s audio experience with the PowerBand Audio Plus system, which delivers exceptional sound and clarity from high-output fairing and saddlebag speakers that are 50% louder than the Challenger’s stock audio system.

With its modern, aggressive look, and a seemingly unlimited array of performance, comfort and technological features, the Indian Challenger stands alone as the ultimate bagger.

“While we are grounded in our iconic history, we are focused and driven to break new ground and establish a higher standard for riders; and the Challenger is a testament to that,” said Steve Menneto, President of Indian Motorcycle. “The amount of technology and level of detail packed into this bike is incredible, and it’s something we’re extremely proud of.”

Indian Motorcycle Delivers Most Powerful Engine In Its Class

Indian Motorcycle Delivers Most Powerful Engine In Its Class With New PowerPlus – A New Level Of V-Twin Performance From America’s First Motorcycle Company.

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, raised the bar for American motorcycles today with the announcement of its most powerful engine to date, the PowerPlus. The all-new 1769 cc (108 ci), liquid-cooled V-twin delivers a class-leading 121 horsepower (90.1 kW) and 178 Nm of torque and establishes a dramatically new standard for American V-twin performance.

The PowerPlus will serve as the heart of the new Indian Challenger, an all-new, fixed-fairing bagger that utilises Indian Motorcycle’s state-of-the-art technology to become the highest-performing American V-twin ever developed. The new engine’s name is a nod to Indian Motorcycle’s iconic history, paying homage to the Indian PowerPlus motorcycle produced from 1916 to 1924.

“We challenge our engineers with the notion that anything less than best-in-class design and performance will simply not get it done, and it’s clear with this new engine that they have delivered on that high standard,” said Steve Menneto, Indian Motorcycle President. “Countless hours were spent in design, development and testing to ensure this is the best liquid-cooled V-twin ever developed, and I could not be prouder of our team and this incredible motor.”

The PowerPlus adopts several design and performance features from the liquid-cooled 1133 cc Indian Scout engine, including an overhead camshaft design utilising four valves per cylinder. But comparisons end there. The PowerPlus was developed with a big-piston, big-torque mindset with an end game of maximum power delivery across the entire curve.

The all-new powertrain features a six-speed transmission with true overdrive, assist clutch to reduce clutch effort, and three ride modes that allow riders to tailor throttle mapping to their riding preferences. Advanced technology also includes hydraulic valve lash adjusters and hydraulic camshaft chain tensioners for ease of maintenance and reliability.

The PowerPlus was tested, refined and proven by one of the industry’s most rigorous development and testing programs, accumulating over one million miles of simulated testing, including state-of-the-art dyno testing, and more than 250,000 on-road miles.

“You simply cannot deliver the ultimate bagger without an engine that stands head and shoulders above anything else in its class, and that was the motivation behind the PowerPlus,” said John Callahan, Indian Motorcycle Vice President, Engineering. “We developed the most sophisticated V-twin powerplant in the industry, and then we spent month after month, hour upon hour, putting it through the most intense paces to ensure it could take whatever we threw at it. The end result is something truly special.”

Indian Motorcycle PowerPlus Engine Specifications:

• Engine Displacement: 1769 cc (108 ci)
• Power: 120.6 hp / 90.1 kW  at 5,500 RPM

Indian Motorcycle honours Scout’s 100 year legacy in 2020

Indian Motorcycle honours Scout’s 100 year legacy in 2020 with Scout Bobber Twenty & Limited Edition Scout 100th Anniversary models.

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, today announced its 2020 Scout lineup, highlighted by two new models that pay homage to the 100-year legacy of the iconic Indian Scout – the Scout Bobber Twenty and the limited edition Scout 100th Anniversary. Also for 2020, Indian Motorcycle is introducing a selection of new Scout touring accessories, including a colour-matched Quick Release Fairing with a two-inch Windshield and weather resistant Semi-Rigid Quick Release Saddlebags.

“The Indian Scout has stood the test of time as one of the most influential, iconic and recognisable motorcycles in the world,” said Reid Wilson, Vice President for Indian Motorcycle. “100 years is an incredibly special milestone, and it made perfect sense to honour Scout’s history and legacy with these two heritage-inspired 2020 models.”

In 1919, Indian Motorcycle announced the world’s first Scout motorcycle with the 1920 model year Scout. In celebration of the Scout’s 100th birthday, Indian Motorcycle has created a premium and collectible Scout 100th Anniversary model, limited to 750 produced globally. The special anniversary edition takes styling cues from the original Scout, highlighted by its striking paint scheme of Indian Motorcycle Red with Anniversary Gold trim, and colour-matched Scout 100th Anniversary badge. The bike’s finishing touches include a Desert Tan Genuine Leather Solo Saddle Seat, Black Wire Wheels, Beach Bars, Luggage Rack and chrome finishes to complete the heritage-inspired throwback styling.

The ‘Twenty’ in Scout Bobber Twenty also pays homage to the original 1920 Scout, as do several of the bike’s unique features, including wire wheels and a floating saddle. The 2020 Scout Bobber Twenty delivers a meaner, ‘old school’ bobber style, with improved ergonomics. Scout Bobber Twenty features an old-school mix of chrome and blacked-out finishes, 10-inch Ape Hanger Handlebars, and comes in three colours, all equipped with ABS: Thunder Black, Sagebrush Smoke and Burnished Metallic.

In addition to the two new heritage-inspired Scout models, the 2020 Scout lineup also includes the return of Scout, Scout Sixty and Scout Bobber. All 2020 Scouts receive key feature upgrades, including floating rotors, new calipers and master cylinders for improved braking performance. All Scout Bobbers will receive new Pirelli MT60RS tyres, while the 2020 Scout features a Sport Seat and passenger pegs.

2020 Scout models with ABS will be available in several new colours. The Indian Scout Sixty is available in Thunder Black, Burgundy Metallic and Pearl White over Titanium Metallic. The Indian Scout is available in Thunder Black, White Smoke, Deepwater Metallic, Metallic Jade over Thunder Black and Indian Motorcycle Red over Ivory Cream with Gold Pinstripe. The Indian Scout Bobber is available in Thunder Black, Thunder Black Smoke, Deepwater Metallic, Bronze Smoke and White Smoke.

For riders looking to tour on their Scout, Indian Motorcycle is introducing a handful of new accessories that will help the trip last longer. A brand new, colour-matched Quick Release Fairing with a two-inch Windshield is available for all model years of Scout and Scout Sixty and comes with the option to change to either a five-inch or seven-inch Windshield. To complete the touring package, riders can add the Solo Luggage Rack (available in chrome and now in gloss black) and a Solo Rack Bag. In winter 2019, riders can add the brand new Semi-Rigid Quick Release Saddlebags. With additional Indian Motorcycle accessories, a rider can customise their Scout Bobber with a Rider Comfort Seat, or add some more aggressive style to Scout and Scout Sixty with Bar End Mirrors, Smoked turn signal Lenses, Tinted Windshields, and varying handlebars and foot controls to achieve the perfect fit for the rider and passenger.

Arriving at dealerships this year, riders can learn more or test ride by visiting a local Indian Motorcycle dealership.

FTR 1200 sets UK speed records and makes World Wheelie Championship debut

Indian Motorcycle, officially entered the World Wheelie Championships at the weekend, with experienced American protagonist, Cecil ‘Bubba’ Myers, also setting two UK production bike speed records on the FTR1200’s debut.

A tentative first outing at the Straightliners-run event that sees an eclectic mix of machines enter, including turbo charged machines that reach over 210mph on the back wheel, Bubba’s FTR 1200S was simply a production machine with the rear number plate hanger removed.

With a limited number of runs, due to other commitments for Bubba on his regular turbo-charged machine, the 2018 world champion completed his fastest 1 Mile Wheelie at 131.137mph on the FTR1200S, before going on to set two UK speed records in the process, recording a speed of 145.543mph to set the ‘Flying Start ¼ mile’ record and 145.613mph to secure the ‘Standing Start Mile’ record too – both in the production V-Twin up to 1350cc category.

Talking about the weekend, Bubba Myers, commented, “This has been a really positive introduction to the FTR. The bike was pretty much standard compared to everything else out there this weekend, so to set the speeds I did shows how much potential there is. The balance of the bike is really good, but I was most impressed by the engine; Its torque is really impressive and within just a couple of passes I was super comfortable with it. We’re pleased to begin the FTR’s story with some records in the bag too. A big thanks to Indian Motorcycle Company for the support, I hope we’re back next year.”

Brittney Olsen debuts 1928 Indian Chief racer at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Brittney Olsen, champion American antique motorcycle racer and founder of 20th Century Racing, debuted her recently completed 1928 Indian Chief Class A Board Track Racer at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, bringing her love for the history of early American motorcycle racing to the international crowd. Held in the beautiful English parkland surrounding Goodwood House, the event is one of the most anticipated motorsport festivals on the international calendar and celebrates all aspects of the sport from two wheels to four, from the earliest racing machines to the very latest.

“I am beyond thrilled and honoured to be among the international racers to be invited to Goodwood,” says Brittney. “I have never been to the United Kingdom, or Europe as a matter of fact, so I’m excited and humbled that my very first time travelling overseas is by invitation to such a prestigious, world-class motorsport event. If you had told me back in 2012 that I would be invited to ship over my early 20th Century race bikes to participate in the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb I wouldn’t have believed you and most likely replied ‘Maybe In my wildest dreams!’”

Inspired to become a racer at just three years of age after meeting three-times NHRA World Champion drag racer Shirley Muldowney, Brittney has racked up an extensive racing career since starting out in ATV racing at just 11, competing in drag racing at 14 and moving into motorcycle racing at 23. Career victories include three AMA-sanctioned Class A wins at the Sturgis Half Mile, winning the Class A race at the Black Hills Half Mile and becoming the very first champion of the inaugural Sons of Speed event during the 2017 Daytona Bike Week.

Born and raised in South Dakota, Brittney says she had a deep appreciation for Indian Motorcycle early in life because of the local Sturgis Motorcycle Races and Rally, founded back in 1938 by local Indian Motorcycle dealer, J.C. “Pappy” Hoel.

“That’s where I first learned about their extensive racing past and, to me, Indian Motorcycle symbolises the history of motorcycling racing in my state. The Indian Motorcycle brand represents a golden era of the American Industrial Revolution, a means to travel anywhere, anytime and to go faster than the man next to you at any given moment.”

At the age of 19, the fact that old Indians racers were rare and had numerous speed and racing records ignited a passion for learning more and digging deeper into the history of motorcycle racing and the Indian Motorcycle brand.

“It takes a great appreciation of this motorcycle history to have the enthusiasm and passion to build and race old Indians. Historically a legendary racing powerhouse dating back to the early 1900s, Indian’s rivalry with Harley is older than Chevy vs. Ford and the fact that it continues on the roads and at race tracks across the world makes it a lasting legacy.”

Building antique racing machines with her husband, fellow racer and renowned antique motorcycle restorer Matt Olsen, Brittney founded 20th Century Racing in 2012 to preserve the history of early American motorcycle racing by inspiring others through their builds and racing.

“When I first began my journey building and racing old American board track racers, information and parts for the bikes were very limited and there were only two events for us to race our antique bikes, one in America and one in Germany. Now there are over eight races in America for early Class A race bikes.”

“Initially when I first started racing motorcycles, I did not race an Indian. However, I did train under fourteen-times board track class champion and master antique Indian Motorcycle builder Jim Wall aboard “FEEBEE,” his 1928 Indian Chief board track racer. Since he was the man to beat at the races, I asked if he would coach me on these old bikes. He not only coached me to my first win, he infected me with the Indian race virus and sold me my first Indian race bike, ‘The Spirit of Sturgis’ a 1938 Indian Sport Scout. The machine came in a couple of boxes with no instructions. Luckily, between my husband, myself and with the support of Jim Wall and Indian Motorcycle Sturgis, 20th Century Racing had built our first ever Indian Motorcycle race bike in 2015. The following year in 2016, Jim allowed me to race his Indian board tracker at the Sturgis Half Mile races. Never before had I experienced the sheer, raw power to overtake a racer on the track, effortlessly.”

It didn’t take long before 20th Century Racing put out the word that they were looking for parts to build a Chief of their own to race. They found out that building a 1928 Indian Chief would take a lot of time and research, buying and collecting parts from all over the world, mostly Australia, and require actually making many of the parts needed.

As the pile of parts started to grow the project really kicked into gear in October 2018 when Brittney became the first female builder invited to the Born Free Show, a two-day custom motorcycle show in Southern California. Creating the Class A racer required a full-time effort over eight months with help from family and friends.

“We hand-built the frame from an original 1924 Indian Scout frame and had a set of custom cylinders, heads and the gas tank newly cast for us in Australia. We requested the head to be un-machined so we could machine our own combustion chamber for better performance. Everything from the bars to the seat are hand-made.”

“To represent my team 20th Century Racing, Indian Motorcycles, American Motorcycle Racing History and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally at one of the world’s largest and most respected motorsports festivals as an invited American Racer really is a dream come true. To be given the honour of going up the prestigious Goodwood hill climb on a 1928 Indian Chief Class A Racer that we hand-built from the ground up is certainly the cherry on top of a vanilla ice cream cone.”

After appearing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Brittney Olsen takes the Indian Chief back to South Dakota for its international racing debut at the Spirit of Sturgis Vintage Motorcycle Festival, a revival of the bygone eras of American motorcycle racing at the Historical Sturgis Half Mile on August 5th, 2019.

Over 300 Motorcycles Attend First Official French IMRG Rally

Indian Motorcycle created a spectacle in Auvergne region over the weekend with the launch of its first event specifically dedicated to members of the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group (IMRG). Just six years since relaunching the brand, more than 300 machines and no less than 500 people travelled from all over France and Europe to share their passion for America’s first motorcycle company at the IMRG village at the Indian Saloon in Riom.
The program of events included: a visit to the Baster museum, riding the fabulous roads of Puy de Dôme, and a parade on the mythical Circuit de Charade.

Pierre Audoin – Indian Motorcycle France, Manager:
“Mission accomplished! We are very proud to have successfully launched this event alongside Thierry Foucher. Up to now, the IMRG meetings have been integrated into existing events; in the past we have collaborated with the Dax Motor’s & Blues festival and Punta Bagna de Valloire, which allowed us to grow the gathering to give it more resonance and impact each year. This year, we had to step up and create an annual and unmissable event dedicated solely to our clients and IMRG members, it’s always an important moment of sharing and communication. We had a very enjoyable ride and discussion with them about the common passion that drives us around Indian Motorcycle every day. It helps us better understand their expectations. It’s a first, and I think it has made an impact that will set an obvious sequence. Thank you sincerely to Thierry Foucher and his team for their involvement and their professionalism, as well as the Indian Saloon, the Baster Museum and the Circuit de Charade. The appointment is set for 2020!”

Event Details
Friday was dedicated to welcoming participants with an opening night. This inaugural cocktail invited the 500 participants to the Indian Saloon, famous for its decor dedicated to custom culture, and particularly Indian Motorcycle, and included a performance by American singer, Gilda Solve.

On Saturday, participants took the road on their Chiefs, Scouts, Roadmasters and other Indian Motorcycle models to trace the tourist routes from the Puy de Dôme and the Puy de Sancy massif before gathering at an award ceremony for the regional Club with the most representation over the weekend.

The Baster museum opened its doors for the occasion with bikes from Indian Motorcycle dating back to 1930 and worth over 300,000 euros. For Sunday morning, the event moved on to the mythical Circuit de Charade in the Auvergne Volcanoes park. This sinuous route, with very pronounced elevation changes, had its heyday in the 70s with F1 and Motorcycle Grand Prix and, for the inaugural IMRG celebration, hosted more than 300 bikes from Indian Motorcycle for the giant parade.

The goal was to break the world record for the number of Indian Motorcycle models in a parade. The United States previously held this record with 274 motorcycles. After a grid formation of all participants, 323 motorcycles were counted. World record beaten!
Following this record count, the motorcycles set of on the parade for two laps of the 4.2km circuit lead by the official America Indian Motorcycle Truck.

Indian Motorcycle unleashes V-Twin-powered fine art with its FTR 1200 Artist Series tank covers

In a dynamic, creative display of artisanship, Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, today announced a collaboration with five renowned artists on a limited-edition line of tank covers for Indian’s all-new FTR 1200. Only 100 tank covers for each design will be produced, with the five unique designs to be unveiled on June 13 at Wheels & Waves in Biarritz, France.

Indian Motorcycle curated a lineup of artists with extremely distinct styles from street graffiti to modern abstract, in order to appeal to a wider range of consumer preferences. The artistic tank covers will allow FTR 1200 owners to instantly transform their bike into a piece of mobile fine art, while also increasing their personal connection to the FTR 1200.

The five artists include:

  • Steve Caballero: A legendary skateboarding icon and original member of the famed “Bones Brigade,” Cab has forged his legacy by turning pools and half pipes into canvases for his skate artistry. Over the years, he has become well-known for his extraordinary “low-brow,” hot-rod-culture-inspired original artwork. His designs are now highly sought after by brands and collectors across the skate and art industries.
  • D*Face: D*Face (a.k.a. Dean Stockton) is a leading figure in Urban Contemporary Art, inaugurating his career on the streets more than 15 years ago. He originally entered the scene by hand-drawing stickers and posters, adhering them all over London and beyond for the unsuspecting public to discover. His work has since evolved, from fine art gallery shows to full-scale outdoor mural installations that transform urban landscapes and high-rise buildings into massive works of art.
  • Adam Turman: A home-grown visionary from Indian Motorcycle’s very own backyard of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Turman is known best for large-scale, vivid and dynamic wall-mural installations throughout the Midwest. He began his art career by creating gig posters for local bands, taking inspiration from the bold, graphic style of 1980s comics and heavy metal art. Turman’s keen ability to marry his bold, vivid artistic visions with strategic-marketing objectives has made him one of the Midwest region’s most sought-after commercial artists.
  • ThankYouX: ThankYouX (a.k.a. Ryan Wilson) began his artistic journey on the streets of Los Angeles spray painting stencils in homage to Andy Warhol. While these signature stencils were his initial calling card, they were only scratching the surface of his multi-faceted artistic identity. As his level of notoriety expanded, the nature of his expression evolved to modern abstract designs that stand in contrast to the more conventional graffiti-inspired street-art paradigm. His unique brand of street art has captured attention and earned acclaim around the world.
  • RISK: A true “O.G.” in the world of graffiti, RISK began his career as a founding member of the WCA (West Coast Artists) graffiti crew. RISK was one of the first graffiti writers in Southern California to paint freight trains and pioneered the use of billboards and freeway overpasses as artistic canvases. Over several decades his career has transitioned from the streets to museums, galleries and clothing lines. Risk is an innovative contemporary artist who now incorporates everything from advanced: “colour theory” to “neon” in his body of work.

The FTR 1200 stands as Indian Motorcycle’s most-customisable platform to date, featuring four distinct accessory collections, designed to modify the bike’s overall look and feel based on the unique tastes and styles of different riders. With its fuel tank located beneath the seat, the FTR 1200 airbox sits directly over the motor where fuel tanks more commonly reside. This allows for tank covers that are easy to remove and interchange, making the process of customisation and personalisation even more efficient for riders.

“Art and motorcycles share a common thread of self-expression, and for motorcycles, customisation is where self-expression truly comes to life,” said Reid Wilson, Senior Director of Marketing and Product for Indian Motorcycles. “The FTR 1200 and its diverse accessory collections, were purposefully designed to enable a rider’s desire for self-expression, and the Artist Series serves that same purpose in a highly artistic fashion.”

An episodic content series, scheduled to debut shortly after Wheels & Waves, will showcase each of the five artists, their design process, and their unique airbox cover designs. Final designs and detailed product information will be available after the unveiling at Wheels & Waves on June 13.

For those buying a five-day ticket in advance, Indian Motorcycle will automatically enter them into a prize draw for a chance to win the all-new FTR 1200. The draw will take place on Saturday night at the main stage of the village. Advance tickets can now be bought online from: wheels-and-waves.com

FTR 1200 Hooligan racers revealed at Bike Shed Show

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, revealed two FTR 1200 race machines at the Bike Shed London Show over the weekend. Prepared for Hooligan racing by S&S Cycle, the FTR 1200 Hooligans will make their race debut in the hands of Krazy Horse teammates, Lee ‘KP’ Kirkpatrick and Leah Tokelove for the second round of the European Hooligan Championship during Wheels & Waves in June.

“The standard FTR 1200 is an awesome looking street bike with excellent handling and plenty of power,” says Grant Bester, Vice President and General Manager for Indian Motorcycle EMEA. “For racing on dirt ovals, the work by S&S Cycle turns the stock street bike into an awesome Hooligan race package and I can’t wait to see them hit the track at Wheels & Waves.”

Lee ‘KP’ Kirkpatrick (#152) commented, “I’ve been looking forward to riding an FTR 1200 ever since I first laid eyes on one. So, when Indian Motorcycle asked if I’d be up for racing an S&S prepared FTR 1200 hooligan bike in Europe you can probably guess what my answer was. It’s insane; not just how good it looks, the engineering work that’s gone into them and to be given the chance to race one, it’s such an honour. I’m looking forward to getting some testing time on the bike, working with Indian and S&S Cycle on the development.”

Leah Tokelove (#37) is equally excited, “Imagine my elation when I got asked if I would like to race one,” she says. “That feeling was next level. After seeing the bike for the first time in its Hooligan form, I’m just blown away by the level of detail and consideration that has gone into transforming this street bike into a racing bike. All of the parts used are of the highest quality and everything has been considered; the craftsmanship is unreal. S&S have done a fantastic job of developing the Hooligan racer from the original FTR 1200, their involvement has enabled Indian to project their Hooligan team to a whole new level, so thanks to S&S Cycle for their support. I am one very happy Hooligan with Pigtails – Let’s go racing!”

S&S Cycle has played an integral part in the development and success of the FTR750 race program and applied that level of race winning perfection to the recently launched FTR 1200. Beyond the more visible changes such as the number plate, removal of the front brakes and the S&S 2-into-2 exhaust system, modifications have been made to the riding position, clearance, suspension and handling with special race parts designed, or selected, by S&S Cycle. Headline figures are a weight reduction of over 25kg, and a wheelbase shortened from 157cm to 148cm.

To improve clearance for the extreme lean angles of flat track racing, the oil cooler, battery, starter solenoid and voltage regulator have been moved from their stock position behind the front wheel and allow the use of -2 degree neck cups in the S&S billet triple-clamps. This sharpens the handling through a steeper rake and shorter wheelbase and the handling can be further tuned with the 8mm of movement in the adjustable offsets of the S&S triple clamps.

For stiffer, race-ready suspension, the Hooligans feature fully-adjustable inverted cartridge front forks and a FOX FTR 1200 race monoshock, with remote reservoir, specifically designed for flat track racing. Matched to the rear shock is a new, shorter S&S swingarm for better handling and feel. With the new swingarm 25mm shorter, the rear wheel could touch the standard underseat fuel tank, so a smaller, aluminium fuel cell has been designed.

To attack the ovals, the rider is given a more commanding position with wider Pro Series Protaper bars which are brought closer to the rider with new risers to get the elbows up. New frame spars reposition the footpegs for better clearance and the new sub-frame, housing a smaller and lighter Lithium Ion battery, features a carbon fibre race seat tail unit.

Completing the race package are 19” Roland Sands Design wheels wearing Dunlop DT3 flat track race tyres and a 520 race chain running on the standard front sprocket and custom Vortex rear sprocket.

Randy Mamola To Race IndianxWorkhorse Sprint Racer

Built by Brice Hennebert of Workhorse Speedshop to honour the Indian Scout’s 100th anniversary, ‘Appaloosa’ is named after the famous breed of horse. Brice explains, “I wanted a name that could link Workhorse, Indian Motorcycle and speed. As soon as I discovered that the American horse breed Appaloosa was one of the world’s fastest horses, I knew I had the name for an American sprint bike built by Workhorse. After putting so much into this build, I’m excited to see the reaction to it and I can’t wait to see Randy blast it down the racetrack.”

Randy Mamola says, “I’ve always been a big fan of Indian Motorcycle and I’m really looking forward to racing this amazing creation. It’s great to be part of this project, especially during the Scout’s 100th anniversary. With the Sultans of Sprint being such a unique series, it’s going to be a lot of fun soaking up the atmosphere, meeting the crowds and putting on a show for them.”

Outfitted with a bespoke racing suit created by Alpinestars, inspired by the racing suits they provide for the Indian Wrecking Crew, Randy will be competing in the Factory Class under race number #19 to celebrate 1919, the year the original Indian Scout was first revealed. In the Factory Class, motorcycles must be four-stroke (air or water cooled) with no limit regarding the engine capacity providing that the tuned bike does not exceed a power-to-weight ratio limit of 0.65bhp/kg.

‘Appaloosa’ is the culmination of over 700 hours of design and fabrication by Workhorse and has been supported with technical expertise and premium components from project partners Akrapovič, Beringer Brakes, MOTOREX, Öhlins, and Vibrant Performance.

After completely stripping the Scout Bobber, Brice cut and narrowed the original fuel tank, retaining the side profile, to create a cover for a new aluminium fuel cell which holds just 2.5 litres for sprint racing. With the fuel cell in place, work focussed on the riding position, a critical element for quick starts. A new sub-frame was fabricated to better support the rider under hard acceleration and combines with lower clip-on handlebars and drag-style foot controls to tilt the rider forward and keep weight over the front wheel.

To further enhance traction when the flag drops, Brice designed and welded an extended aluminium swingarm. With parts CNC machined from his drawings by Beringer Brakes, the swingarm is mated to advanced, fully adjustable suspension technology from Öhlins. Matching the STX 36 piggyback rear shock absorbers, Öhlins also supplied Retro 43 front forks and a steering damper to ensure the best possible grip and stability enabling the full performance of the bike to be utilised.

With a rolling chassis and elements of the streamlined fairing starting to take shape, Brice took Appaloosa to Akrapovič where a bespoke titanium exhaust system was created for maximum power and the best possible sound. Without making any internal modifications, engine power has been increased to 130hp with a combination of the Akrapovič exhaust, a racing ECU, Power Commander, direct intake, Nitrous Oxide Injection system and MOTOREX oil. To get the power to the tarmac, the original belt drive has been converted to chain drive and a quickshifter ensures swift and precise gear changes.

Bringing the rapid racer to a controlled stop is the complete 4D Aerotec braking system from Beringer Brakes. The 4D system features two Ø230mm discs per caliper for increased power over standard single discs as well as reduced inertia to aid acceleration. Beringer Brakes also supplied the handlebar controls and buttons as well as CNC machining many of the parts designed by Brice.

Using hosing supplied by Vibrant Performance the cooling system has been simplified for weight reduction and for a cleaner look around the engine. Additional components from Vibrant such as welded dash connectors, fuel and water tank caps and heat protection hoses add finishing touches to Appaloosa.

As well as competing in the Sultans of Sprint championship, Indian Motorcycle also plans to have the bike on static display in the UK at The Bike Shed (24 – 26 May) and during Wheels & Waves in France (12 – 16 June).

Q&A with Brice Hennebert of Workhorse Speed Shop

With work well under way turning a Scout Bobber into a sprint racer, we caught up with Brice at Workhorse Speed Shop to find out more about him and what inspired his passion for building one-off motorcycles.

Q: You grew up surrounded by your father’s bikes, what is your earliest memory of motorcycles?
A: “I think that was my neighbour in front of my parent’s house trying to start an old off-road 2-stroke for hours and hours, kicking and shouting bad words at it. I think I was 5.”

Q: At what age did you start working on motorcycles and when did you build your first custom?
A: “At the age of 15 years old. My dad gave me a dead Yamaha DT MX50 that had been crashed into a tractor. I did the all engine refurbishing with my dad, finding front forks and wheels on swap meets, etc. In the end, my first moped was sort of customised. Actually, my first true custom was a BMX modified with a sidecar made from an apple box and a Godier Genoud fairing.”

Q: You trained as a graphic designer, were you riding and working on bikes during this time?
A: “At this time, I was living in Brussels, so I only used a bicycle. Then I had a CB750 but nothing really serious. I came back to motorcycles a few years later, about 10 years ago maybe.”

Brice is transforming this Scout Bobber into a full-blooded sprint racer

Q: When did you decide to make your passion your official business?
A: “When the second person arrived to ask for a build. I started to think ‘mmm, maybe I can do this full time’, but it took another 5 years to be able to stop any other side jobs.”

Q: How did the idea come about, was it sudden or had you always wanted to do it?
A: “It was progressive. At first, I discovered, through the work of the Wrench Monkees, that you can do café racers and that kind of build from Japanese rides. In my dad’s and friend’s minds, café racers were European bikes or die. It really had to be old-school British or Italian for them. Then, I built something from my CB750 with a Rickman tank and seat that had been laying in my dad’s workshop for years. When a friend asked me to do something similar, I started thinking ‘hell, this could be the best job on earth’. I decided to fight like a devil for the next 7 years to get to the top-level of builders and I still have many things to learn.”

Q: How does it feel to have returned to the workshop of your childhood as a professional motorcycle builder?
A: “That was a really good feeling, kind of a shelter, far from the city and all the stuff about big cities. For my dad, it was also really cool because my job was born from his passion. The first two years of Workhorse were in that workshop, but now I have moved on to a new place which is better on both the technical side and for the business as Workhorse evolves.”

Q: For you, what makes a really good build? What impresses and inspires you when you see a custom motorcycle?
A: “A sense of proportion, subtle references from all around the motorsport world, efficiency, skilled build process, racing, no plastic, no ‘BS’ and honesty. I’m pushing my own limits every time, so the people I reference are changing all the time and I feed myself from many other areas than just motorcycles.”

Q: What are your favourite tools or equipment in the workshop?
A: “I think that’s the bead roller and my TIG welder for sure.”

Welding the new one-off swingarm for the Indian Scout Bobber

Q: Which biking events are you most looking forward to this year?
A: “For me, the best indication of what’s happening in Europe is the Bike Shed in London, but I will be part of the Reunion in Monza, Wheels & Waves, Cafe Racer festival, Glemseck 101 and few others.”

Q: What is the best memory or experience you’ve had on a motorcycle?
A: “My dad bought 14 Urals with sidecars from Russia and sold 13 of them to friends and family. We took five of them on a long trip through the countryside roads all the way to Corsica. I would have been about 11 years old. Five of us travelled in the sidecars, including my mum and sister and even the dog. Although we spent a lot of time doing repairs, as we had a lot of trouble with the engines breaking down because they were old and tired, it is the very best memory for me.”

Q: Outside of motorcycles, what do you do for fun, what other hobbies do you have?
A: “Cars, fabrication techniques, design, drinking beer and spending quality time with friends in my Village.”

Q: We can’t reveal too much about the Scout Bobber racer you are building yet, but what are you working on right now?
A: “Today I did the swing arm welding; it wasn’t a piece of cake but I’m quite happy with the result. The project is well advanced and, so far, I am fulfilling all my objectives and deadlines in terms of the fabrication. So that’s quite cool.”

Indian Motorcycle appoint new dealer for northeastern Netherlands

Indian Motorcycle extends the coverage of their retail network by welcoming Lowlands Biker Store to deliver the premium motorcycle experience to riders in the northeastern region.

Based in Zwolle, 100km east of Amsterdam, Lowlands Biker Store brings the full Indian Motorcycle offering to the region with motorcycle sales, service and the extensive apparel and accessory lineups.

Roy Bowring, dealer development manager for Indian Motorcycle BENELUX, explains, “To improve the accessibility of Indian Motorcycle in the Netherlands we were looking for a new dealer in the region of Zwolle. And while we investigated several options in the area, there was only one choice. I believe that Lowlands Biker Store has the perfect combination of an enormous passion for V-twin motorcycles and the business experience to succeed. Although Lowlands Biker Store is relatively new within the motorcycle sector, co-owner and manager Marco Berghorst has been working for several decades in the customisation of American motorcycles. In short, they are a great addition to our dealer network.”

With a long-standing love for American motorcycles, Lowlands Biker Store sees a great future with Indian Motorcycle and having already completed many custom projects, they are also looking forward to helping riders add the personal touch to their motorcycles.

“From a young age we were already big fans of American V-twin motorcycles,” says Marco Berghorst, owner of Lowlands Biker Store. “That is why we keep a close eye on all the trends and models and were surprised a few years ago by Indian Motorcycle. The brand, style and history totally fit with our passion. We see a lot of potential for another brand within the ‘American way of life’. We have every confidence in the development of Indian Motorcycle and believe it will become a big success in Europe. We are proud to be part of this journey.”

Opening in Zwolle on March 1, Lowlands Biker Store becomes the eighth Indian Motorcycle outlet in the Netherlands and is part of the ongoing project to enhance the retail network to support continued growth in international markets.

Indian Motorcycle has announced the range-topping 2019 FTR 1200 S Race Replica will be launched exclusively with an Akrapovič exhaust at a significant saving over aftermarket purchase.

“The overwhelmingly positive response we’ve received for the FTR 1200 S with the Akrapovič exhaust has shown what a dynamic combination they are,” says Grant Bester, Vice President and General Manager for Indian Motorcycle EMEA. “It’s this great feedback which inspired us to give more value to the first owners of the FTR 1200 S Race Replica by including the exhaust at a very special price.”

Limited to the first year’s production of the FTR 1200 S in Race Replica paint, the offer includes the Akrapovič low-mount exhaust in titanium and stainless construction with a protective black matte carbon fibre heat shield.
