2022 KTM 890 Duke R – The Super Scalpel Gets a Sharp New Look

The KTM 890 DUKE R slices into the new model year with the all-new Atlantic Blue base colour lifted directly from its big brother, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R.

Having been around since 2020, the KTM 890 DUKE R has proven itself to be the undisputed champion in the middleweight segment. Boasting an impressive 121 HP and 99 Nm of torque, it represents as a serious option for race-centric riders looking for agility, punch, and poise.

The KTM 890 DUKE R is dubbed THE SUPER SCALPEL on account of its lightning-fast steering geometry. Thanks to the load-bearing design of its tubular steel chassis and adjustable WP APEX suspension, it remains a no-compromise middleweight naked bike, equally at home on twisty mountain passes as it is on the racetrack, delivering more power, more torque, and more intense asphalt-carving agility than any other parallel twin in the segment.

While its forward momentum and agility are exemplary, the KTM 890 DUKE R also excels when slowing down. Front monoblock Brembo Stylema calipers grabbing meaty 320 mm discs on the front, along with an adjustable Brembo MCS master cylinder, mean that THE SUPER SCALPEL stops as quickly and precisely as it attacks apexes. A set of sticky Michelin Power Cup 2 tyres provides reliable grip on all asphalt surfaces in all weather conditions.

In terms of electronic wizardry, the KTM 890 DUKE R makes use of Cornering ABS and Cornering MTC (motorcycle traction control) with a 6D lean angle sensor that not only detects the side-to-side (roll) and forwards and backward (pitch) movements of the bike, but also the rotation of the bike on its vertical axis (yaw). This translates into comprehensive traction control management, accomplished by the use of a wheel slip control sensor and a pitch angle control sensor.

A selection of ride modes—namely RAIN, STREET, SPORT, and optional TRACK mode—ensure full rider customisation, nine levels of adjustable traction control slip, anti-wheelie on/off, and the additional throttle control setting.

The biggest difference is obvious: the KTM 890 DUKE R now features a premium hue of matt paint. Called ‘Atlantic Blue’, the color is reminiscent of the palate used on the KTM RC16 GP racer and recently the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, adding to THE SUPER SCALPEL’s READY TO RACE demeanor. Typical of all KTM ‘R’ models, the signature orange frame continues to provide the perfect contrast of colors while strengthening the READY TO RACE presence.

With its new look to match its performance and character, the KTM 890 DUKE R once again promises to be a track-ready machine you’ll want to ride every day.

As always, a full range of specially created KTM PowerParts has been developed to personalize and further intensify your ride. A range of KTM PowerWear ensures the rider gets the most out of themself and boosts their READY TO RACE performance.

The 2022 KTM 890 DUKE R will arrive on authorized KTM dealer floors from February 2022 onwards. For more information, visit ktm.com.

KTM Bolsters New KTM 390 Adventure

KTM bolsters new KTM 390 adventure with more free-roaming spirit for adventurers of all demands.

Receiving selected key upgrades in its 2022 trim, the KTM 390 ADVENTURE is here to let every biker go out and adventure even more. No matter the rockiness of the mountain pass, the length of the wilderness trail or the demands of daily mileage, the new KTM 390 ADVENTURE is a highly capable and exhilarating exploration companion every step of the way.

Setting the benchmark in the smaller cylinder segment for outstanding power-to-weight, technology, and riding agility, the KTM 390 ADVENTURE is getting a fresh look and some key upgrades for 2022 that bring it closer than ever before to the full range of larger-displacement KTM ADVENTURE machines.

Further enhancing its potential to take riders to places far beyond the ordinary paths, the 2022 model’s extensive list of electronic features has been amplified with the addition of STREET and OFFROAD modes for Traction Control. Selecting OFFROAD from STREET will give the KTM a degree of rear wheel slip to enable even easier use of the bike in loose or wet terrain.

The KTM 390 ADVENTURE can be taken and pushed to the extreme and – if the conditions momentarily get the better of the rider – the OFFROAD TC will remain activated in the event of a brief stall or fall. The additional Traction Control capabilities mean it’s easier to get even more exploratory, allowing the KTM 390 ADVENTURE to consolidate its spot as the segment leader in terms of technology and electronic features.

Allowing riders to reach new extremes, KTM has given the 2022 KTM 390 ADVENTURE a set of even more robust cast wheels. The construction of the components is based around five spokes instead of six and this configuration permits increased stiffness and resistance for the rims.

For 2022, the visual identity of the KTM 390 ADVENTURE is bringing it even closer to the race-winning machines in the dunes and deserts around the globe. Available in two distinct color versions, both options highlight the sharp lines of KTM’s ultra-versatile adventurer.

Curious and skilled riders can also find all their requirements and juice at the throttle of the 2022 KTM 390 ADVENTURE. To prove the point, KTM enlisted the help of multi-time Baja winner Quinn Cody and world traveler Paolo Cattaneo to provide the ultimate verdict from their own weekend adventure here.

Enviable power is provided by the state-of-the-art, single cylinder, 4-stroke Euro5 motor hitting 43 hp and 37 Nm of torque. Additionally, the frame is based on the knowledge collected from millions of race kilometers for the right blend of flex, stability and control in straight line performance.

The bike’s famed agility is combined with the carefully considered ergonomics that place the rider right in the heart of the bike’s movements. The 2022 KTM 390 ADVENTURE can be steered like an offroader as much as it can flip into cruise for longer highway stretches, and the new look through the colors and graphics mean that the aesthetic is as sharp as the attributes.

KTM 390 ADVENTURE – HIGHLIGHTS
// Enhanced electronics as standard & OFFROAD TC for added adventuring potential
// Stronger and more resistant wheels for tougher riding
// 43 hp and 37 Nm of torque through the latest Euro5 crafted engine
// Segment-leading electronics incl. lean-angle sensitive ABS and TC

Expand Your Hunting Ground On The 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT

As one of the torquiest motorcycles in the segment, one could argue that the 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT doesn’t move across the earth – it simply spins the ground beneath it to help you reach your destination…

In a segment that necessitates comfort and the ability to cover ground effortlessly, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT rewrites the rulebook. Designed to offer riders a unique Grand Touring experience, but engineered to be a true Sports bike underneath the touring parts, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT covers ground unlike any Sports Tourer on the market.

Thanks to its EURO 5 rated, 175 HP, 141 Nm KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R-derived, 1,301 cc V-twin engine, this is the class leader when it comes to punching a hole in the atmosphere or hauling in the horizon. But it’s not only forward momentum where the long-distance BEAST is true to its namesake.

The WP APEX semi-active suspension on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT works with a specific logic. The design approach to preload adjustability of the rear shock has been geared for the long-distance tourer and is very intuitive. The logic allows riders to set the suspension up according to four different real-life riding situations, namely: RIDER, RIDER & PILLION, RIDER & LUGGAGE, or RIDER, PILLION & LUGGAGE. On top of that, an anti-dive function is fitted as standard.

A new 7 inch-TFT display allows for quick and easy ride adjustment on the fly, thanks to a newly designed layout striking the perfect balance between information and style. The set-up is completed by the new robust switchgear that not only feels premium but also allows for intuitive interaction between the rider and the dash itself.

The wheels on the 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT have been lifted from the latest KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R. These boast a weight saving of 1 kg of unsprung mass over the old set of rims; this not only improves the overall handling but also sports a more aggressive wheel design.

These all-new lightweight wheels are wrapped in new rubber, namely Continental ContiSportAttack 4. The ContiSportAttack 4 boasts a sportier and a more stable riding experience, delivering on the demand for a sportier tire to match the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT’s versatile abilities.

The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT will also debut an all-new navigation system called Turn-by-turn PLUS that will further enhance the touring experience. TBT+ will be available via KTMconnect. This allows navigation instructions to be projected directly on the new 7-inch TFT display, helping riders navigate more effectively. Turn-by-turn PLUS (TBT+) will be launched on the 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT, with roll-outs to other models in the near future.

Powered by SYGIC®, TBT+ can also operate offline, allowing riders to plan their journey and adventure from remote locations, with the NAVIGATION feature using industry-standard mapping to guide riders to their destination of choice. There’s also an advanced search feature, and a diverse range of POIs (including gas stations, restaurants, rest stops), while the system lets you select one of your pre-saved destinations directly from the TFT dash. All the above features can be accessed directly from the new 7-inch TFT dash, while the rider no longer needs to remove their phone from the jacket pocket, making it more convenient and efficient for those quick on-the-fly changes.

The new system also allows for waypoints to be skipped without prompting a turnaround. The system will merely recalculate and find the next available route to get you back on track. Also, the last 10 destinations searched are automatically saved and available directly on the dashboard.

2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT – HIGHLIGHTS
// Updated, EURO 5 LC8 V-twin
// 23-litre tank
// Lightweight wheels saving nearly 1 kg of unsprung mass
// All-new 7” TFT dashboard
// Turn-by-turn PLUS Navigation (TBT+)
// New handlebar switches

2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke R and 1290 Super Duke R Evo

2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke R and KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo – The Beast, Evolved.

The ever-popular KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R roars into 2022 with a new brace of colorways and brings second generation WP APEX semi-active suspension along for the ride with a new EVO derivative.

KTM’s flagship street motorcycle underwent its most radical re-invention in 2020, boasting a number of tweaks and engineering improvements. The 2020 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R underwent dramatic weight savings with a reworked LC8 engine. The electronics package has also been updated, making THE BEAST one of the most technologically advanced naked motorcycles in the segment.

For the model year 2022, KTM has launched a new incarnation of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R that delivers exactly what riders asked for.

Dubbed the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO and drawing on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R’s already legendary status among riders, the EVO brings more tech to the fore, adding 2nd generation WP APEX semi-active suspension from WP.

With new Semi-Active Technology (SAT), the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO retains its class-leading hyper-naked ferocity but gains an even wider range of usability. This allows THE BEAST to go from a comfortable rocket on poor road surfaces to a hardened track-ready apex-splitting weapon – at a simple click of a switch.

Three different damping modes – COMFORT, STREET, SPORT – are available as standard.

In addition, the spring preload of the rear suspension can be set via the TFT menu to up to 20 mm in 10 steps, depending on the requirements of the rider. In this case, the adjustability setting ranges from 0 per cent to 100 per cent , in 10 per cent or 2mm increments.

In addition to the standard suspension settings, the optional SUSPENSION PRO package offers three more damping modes, namely TRACK, ADVANCED, and AUTO.

– TRACK provides the stiffest available setting developed internally by KTM test riders to provide the ideal setting for track days and specifically for faster race tracks where you need additional support under hard braking.
– ADVANCED allows the rider to select the level of damping for the fork and shock on a scale from 1 to 8. This suits more technical riders who are looking for the smallest marginal gains and want to fine-tune and tailor their suspension settings for their riding styles.
– AUTO is the most intelligent of the trio and is capable of detecting different riding styles and automatically adapting the suspension damping, being softer and more comfortable when cruising through the city, and harder and more focused when riding aggressively on a fast mountain pass. This auto adjustment between modes happens almost instantly without any interference in the ride.

SUSPENSION PRO also offers three automatic preload auto-leveling settings – LOW, STANDARD, and HIGH. In this instance, the suspension is able to adjust the preload automatically in accordance with the weight of the rider and recreate three defined geometries:
– AUTO-STANDARD: neutral and balanced geometry.
– AUTO-LOW: relaxed, less aggressive, more comfortable geometry, with a lower seat height.
– AUTO-HIGH: aggressive, agile track attack geometry, with a more loaded front end.

Another optional feature on SUSPENSION PRO is an anti-diving setting that keeps the front-end high under hard braking. As with most electronic functions, it can of course be switched off if desired.

The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO continue to feature the RAIN, STREET, SPORT, and optional TRACK and PERFORMANCE ride modes, affording riders improved feedback about what the engine is doing, with less intrusive traction control and anti-wheelie mitigation. Selecting any of the above settings can be performed on the fly.

Throttle response is given a further boost with the addition of a new quick-turn throttle twist grip, reduced by 7 degrees to 65 degrees. KTM R&D developed this solution not only to offer a faster and more responsive throttle, but also to reduce the rider wrist angle as well as the elbow drop at full throttle.

In terms of looks, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO retain an aggressive street presence but introduce two new colorways. A familiar blue and orange livery is flanked by an all-new silver and orange, which complement the aggressive and hard-hitting appeal of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R. The signature KTM orange frame – reserved only for KTM ‘R’ models – and hot orange wheels give a visible warning to competitors: this BEAST is ready to attack.

A full range of specially created KTM PowerParts has been developed to personalize and further intensify your ride. A dedicated range of KTM PowerWear ensures the rider can give everything they’ve got and boosts their READY TO RACE performance.

The 2022 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R EVO will arrive on authorized KTM dealer floors from January 2022 onwards. For more information, visit ktm.com.

KTM’s New Generation Of WP Apex Semi Active Suspension Smooths The Way

‘Better’ and ‘easier’ are two words that will capture the interest of any rider. KTM has forged the most technically advanced semi-active technology (SAT) suspension for select flagship models: the new, innovative system, produced in collaboration with WP Suspension and specialists like Bosch, is another example of how KTM’s elite STREET bikes are able to pull away from the competition. The software and hardware offer peerless variable damping so that handling can be more sensitive, reactive, and customisable.

‘Easier’: Long gone are the days where a tape measure, tools, or even a visit to a specialised suspension workshop were necessary to maximise the feeling and setting of a bike. Through KTM’s large and well-designed TFT displays, semi-active technology (SAT) can be selected and modified with a few simple touches of a button. Riders can alter the height, response and general behavior to suit any road condition and the changes are outlined with useful graphics that demonstrate the effect of each mode and option. It’s another mark of KTM’s STREET development principles and versatility that the whole process is both a cinch for beginners and detailed enough for the most grizzled veteran.

KTM’s latest SAT offers three damping modes – COMFORT, STREET, and SPORT – with defined levels of compression and rebound depending on how and where the KTM will be ridden. The spring preload on the rear shock can be tweaked through 10 steps, from 0-100%.

Buying the optional SUSPENSION PRO pack opens the possibilities even wider with three further configurations: TRACK, AUTO, and ADVANCED, on a KTM that begs for some smooth asphalt throttle-abuse. There is also OFFROAD (instead of TRACK) for a machine like the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S. The sophistication of the system means that the SAT will use the fantastically fast readings of the 6D lean angle sensor, the suspension control unit, and various other sensors to react instantly and smoothly to the rider’s demands in AUTO. ADVANCED allows the rider to flick through 8 levels of front and rear damping on the TFT.

SUSPENSION PRO provides three preload auto-leveling settings which are LOW, STANDARD, and HIGH. The suspension will consider the weight of the rider, a pillion, and any baggage, and then self-adjust. It will also conveniently recreate three defined geometries. STANDARD is neutral and balanced. LOW is less aggressive and relaxed. HIGH is more aggressive, loading the front for an ‘attack’ setting and even more agility.

The technology’s ability to make its own calculations and adjustments is one prominently cool facet of the new SAT. It can all be done on the move and while in the saddle. Another feature made available by SUSPENSION PRO is the anti-dive functionality. It keeps the front end high for stability and improves pillion comfort under braking. Once riders have felt and tasted SAT, it’s hard to go back.

‘Better’: KTM has achieved these SAT parameters due to new magnetic valves, new programming, and refinement of the 6D sensor and stroke sensors, and the very latest version of WP Suspension’s 48mm front fork and hydraulic rear shock. The combination of this technology brings sensitive real-time readings from the road or path directly to the heart of the suspension control unit and the bike re-aligns instantaneously, depends on what the rider wants from their KTM.

Focusing on the hardware in particular, the WP APEX SAT fork boasts more ‘conventional’ damping but still with all the advantages of the range offered by an electric valve. This has been made possible thanks to the new design that permits faster relay of signals and the deployment of more efficient pulse-width modulation sensors. The WP APEX SAT shock spans 140 to 200 mm of travel depending on the KTM model and has an oil/gas body construction. Another new sensor optimises the self-preload adjustment, which is key in the setting and regulation of the sag and balance geometry.

The most recent generation of KTM’s SAT development has allowed the brand to again set the benchmark for standard specs on the motorcycle market. KTM has been able to revitalize the enticing bond between the invigorating sensation of power, torque, and handling on two wheels with cutting-edge sophistication and control. ‘Easier’? ‘Better’? KTM won’t stop here, with Naked November already on the horizon, look out for two new models that will be unleashed. These new creations will combine the brute power of the V-twin with the very latest technology.

KTM’s LC8 continues to drive the next generation

The never-ending tap of torque: KTM’s LC8 continues to drive the next generation

KTM’s versatile and peerless LC8 engine platform is a technical marvel. The V-twin powerplant remains the sole motor of its type on the motorcycle market to equip Naked Bikes, Sport Tourers, and Travel machines. Entering the third decade of the century, the LC8 still provides the best torque in the naked bike segment, awesome low to mid-range punch, and unrivalled fuel efficiency. The LC8 instils that distinctive KTM character through power delivery that both exhilarates and reassures riders.

Few people knew that KTM were throttling something special on the dyno back in the factory’s R&D department towards the end of the last century. In 2003 they finally took away the covers and unveiled the very first KTM 950 ADVENTURE with the growling V-twin LC8 as the vibrant force at its center.

Two years on, mass production of the distinctive KTM 990 SUPER DUKE cemented the LC8’s stature and since then it has been mined, refined, improved, and re-invented. It initially provided the rasping performance for the KTM RC8 and then the expansive output needed for the superlative KTM SUPER ADVENTUREs and the gut-wrenching torque and fun of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKEs. A bike labelled THE BEAST simply must have rhythm and thunder in its soul.

The LC8 is perhaps best known for its 1301cc 75-degree V-twin inside the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, where luckily advances with electronics mean that cornering motorcycle traction control (Cornering MTC) and anti-wheelie can help tame some of the 140 Nm of torque. The hype is not only about the LC8’s current 180 hp and eye-watering top speed. It’s about the reams of bottom-end grunt that gives each KTM STREET and ADVENTURE model such a strong identity. The LC8 allows KTMs of a certain breed to be completely READY TO RACE but the practicality – and synergy with KTM’s latest generations of ride modes and aids – permit a range of character: from docile dependability to long-range reliability thanks to 15,000 km service intervals. The LC8 can breathe fire on the track or pull anyone up the side of a mountain, scaling all manner of obstacles on the way.

2021 saw a significant chapter in the evolution of the LC8 as the engine was converted to meet Euro5 emissions regulations. KTM engineers were fully convinced by the potential of the technology and their own R&D skill to re-invent the LC8 for a fresh era and to maintain the unique READY TO RACE brutality. The development came through dedicated work with valve and exhaust system efficiency as the LC8 shape-shifted once more. To also shed over 1.5 kg of weight at the same time further enforced the engine’s position as one of the lightest and fiercest motors in any motorcycle dealership. The newest form of the LC8’s architecture included thinner engine cases, new pistons for even better longevity, a new oil line, twin spark ignition and titanium inlet values, new air intakes and more, all helping to trim kilos and retain key power figures.

The result? Naked bike riders can profit from the improved handling, stability, and output, while also knowing a small twist of the throttle would both drop jaws and open minds. Sports Tourers and Adventurers have the same thrilling access to power, performance, and weight, as well as the reassurance that the bike would be able to take them wherever and whenever without qualm.

Versatility was also paramount. In recent long-term tests conducted by the factory, with almost double service intervals accumulated – touching 30,000km – the LC8 of a KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S spent nearly 40 per cent of this period running at under 3,500 rpm. This means that the LC8’s torque and efficiency in the low rev range was essential for nearly half of the total distance covered. The total usability and generosity of the LC8 was also highlighted by the fact that just 1 per cent of the test distance was spent above 6,500 rpm. KTM therefore remain steadfast in their conviction of the V-twin architecture and its benefits. No matter the road, pass, or trail, whatever the conditions, whatever the demands, the LC8 is primed for the challenge.

Looking ahead, and to future incarnations of the KTM SUPER DUKEs and SUPER ADVENTUREs, the LC8 will be the envy of everyone on the tarmac or the trail for a long while to come.

Adriaan Sinke, Head of Motorcycle Product Management: “As we come up to almost twenty years of the LC8 we felt it’s important to highlight how important and just how impressive this piece of engineering has been for both our R&D and of course some of the flagship bikes in our portfolio. Our goal was to have one of the lightest but most powerful V-twins on the market and the fact that we’ve been able to turn to the LC8’s basic outline again and again, flip it around and still push it to new limits is testament to its brilliance. Riders are mostly using all that amazing low-end torque that the LC8 generates: that’s another strong asset and such a mark of KTM’s DNA. We’re looking forward to bringing riders and KTM petrolheads many more visions of how we can use the LC8 in the years ahead.”

Now move as fast as the LC8 and discover other KTM technical innovations by revving your way right HERE.

KTM’S ‘Naked November’ Throws Off The Covers On Thrilling New Models

Setting the benchmark when it comes to introducing ground-breaking technology across its product portfolio, KTM has been setting and breaking records in both the sales front and in its rapid rate of new model releases. With a clear focus on some key innovative technological features, KTM’s Naked November will be highlighted by the introduction of a selection of thrilling new motorcycles.

KTM never rests on its laurels and the goal is to make riding safer, faster. For this KTM is continuously developing groundbreaking technology and rider aids, but without disconnecting the riders from their machine. KTM acknowledges that each rider is different and that’s why each KTM machine offers a multitude of personalisation and customisation options.

The first sensations of twisting a KTM throttle – those first moments when it’s impossible to suppress that massive grin – must be matched with the technology and innovation. The goal is to ensure that the thrill of riding a KTM is linked with all-around rider reward. To this end, KTM bikes ‘stretch the envelope’ to breaking point when it comes to the latest software and hardware on the motorcycle market.

For almost 20 years the ferocious and versatile KTM LC8 motor has been propelling the most iconic KTM machines. From the Dakar Rally-winning machines of the early 2000s to the segment-leading Travel and Naked models in KTM’s updated line-up, the iconic V-Twin engine has left a big mark in the motorcycle industry. The powerhouse engine continues to thrive and will now be at the heart of a selection of brand-new creations and fresh incarnations of THE BEAST.

To help keep this brute power to the ground in all conditions, KTM has been working on evolving its technology. This allows even the average rider to tame THE BEAST. One of the recent technological developments is the second generation of WP APEX Semi-Active suspension: the introduction of the new SAT allows for more flexibility while riding. Riders are able to tailor their setup, whether it being for the long unbeaten road that lies ahead or thrashing out lap times on the race track.

To learn more about the above technology and all the revolutionary features that KTM has to offer, stay tuned for the release of the KTM Tech Guide; a comprehensive and educational platform that will be launched on ktm.com on November 9. Leading the charge within the KTM Tech Guide will be the legendary LC8, the driving force behind so many flagship models at KTM.

The release will be followed with an in-depth look at what makes the second generation of WP APEX Semi-Active suspension a must-have on November 11.

At KTM we don’t like to tease, but with ‘Naked November’ around the corner we wanted to get your engines revving, with new models lining up behind closed doors, which are about to burst wide open. When?

Coming on November 16:
Two incarnations of THE BEAST are about to take centre stage, which all have the attributes of the complete Naked bike. Popular demand, sophistication and better performance means we’re ready to let something more out of the cage.

Arriving on November 23:
All powerful and practical and KTM-style; for some this 2022 model will be the definition of how KTM blurs the segments of the motorcycle industry.

Keep that helmet in your hands, your new ride is about to be unleashed!

Taking place between September 22 – 25, 2021, the fourth edition of the European KTM ADVENTURE RALLY sees 150 orange bleeders push their personal limits while riding close to 700 km over epic trails in the mountains of central Greece.

// 150 participants and KTM staff attended this fourth edition of KTM’s community event
// Participants completed close to 700 km over three days of offroad riding in Greece
// The event welcomed self-navigating adventurers riding alongside guided group riders
// From gravel roads to enduro-style trails, attendees lived a pure READY TO RACE experience

Back to action following its postponement last year, the fourth edition of the European KTM ADVENTURE RALLY provided 150 KTM riders, KTM ambassadors and KTM staff coming from over 20 countries with a READY TO RACE community event that included breath-taking rides in some of the most epic and challenging terrain Greece has to offer.

Rolling out from the event’s basecamp in the beachside town of Nafpaktos, participants were treated with three long and challenging days of riding in changing mountainous terrain. The first day of offroad riding saw attendees head toward the historic destination of Delphi through a series of mountain peaks and valleys. For the second day of riding, participants had to cross the Corinth Canal as they headed towards Kalavryta.

On their way back to Nafpaktos, riders were provided with the option to climb a rocky and extreme uphill section of a few hundred metres. Challenging as it was, this section quickly became the source of many epic stories with participants trying out their skills on their way to the top. Heading towards the north for offroad day three, participants ventured through a network of forest roads towards the village of Ano Chora.

Guiding the groups of orange bleeders were KTM R&D Street Test Manager and four-time Baja 1000 winner, Quinn Cody, together with six-time Enduro World Champion Giovanni Sala among other KTM ambassadors and KTM staff from Mattighofen, Austria.

The 2022 KTM RC Range Brings KTM Race DNA To The Street

KTM RC 390

The KTM RC range has been a staple Supersport model in the KTM lineup for a number of years, filling the Sportsbike gap in the KTM lineup. Now boasting Grand Prix-inspired design, a true race-derived chassis, and high-end electronics previously unseen in the small displacement Supersport segment, the new generation RC range charges out of pitlane with real-world, race-winning intentions.

The most immediately obvious update across the board is the Grand Prix-inspired styling, which sees almost every panel being redesigned, boasting race-inspired lines and two new colourways that clearly define the sporty character of these motorcycles.

KTM RC 125

This redesign has also been purposely done to increase the overall size of the RC range, not only to give it a striking visual presence but also to optimise aerodynamics due to higher top speeds, thanks in part to a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) design process.

This new design has also optimized wind and weather protection, with enhanced heat management by using a combination of inner and outer body panels to direct airflow away from the rider.

The rear bodywork has been reduced as much as possible for a more aggressive profile, but also to show off as much of the redesigned steel trellis subframe as possible.

As true sports bikes, special care has been taken in improving overall ergonomics. The knee area is now ergonomically developed to allow for easier, more fluid rider movement, being as narrow as possible with the largest possible contact area.

KTM RC 390

An all-new two-part cockpit and windscreen holder makes use of a cast aluminum upper area and a lower composite part that secures the headlight, while a larger fuel tank has been added for improved day-to-day riding, comfort, and fuel range.

The new bodywork is easily removable, with a reduced number of screws being used as well as a redesigned mounting system. This makes swapping out the street-legal bodywork for race-ready panels more practical. However, the most notable updates to the KTM RC range can be found underneath the new bodywork.

The 2022 KTM RC range was developed with a focus on weight saving, with extensive savings made throughout the chassis. An all-new wheel design accounts for a 3.4 kg unsprung weight saving over the previous generation, while the new ByBre braking system saves an impressive 960 grams. The frame too, has gone under the knife with a 1.5 kg saving.

KTM RC 125

The suspension has also undergone a major refresh, with adjustable open cartridge WP APEX upside-down front forks up front, which feature 30 clicks of compression adjustment on the left, and 30 clicks for rebound on the right.

The range topping KTM RC 390 is fitted with a WP APEX rear shock absorber which offers pre-load adjustment and five clicks rebound settings.

The KTM RC 125 features WP APEX open cartridge front fork with a completely new sportier factory setting, and a new WP APEX shock absorber with split piston functionality.

Every model in the KTM RC range is powered by a EURO5 state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine with twin overhead camshafts, four valves, and electronic fuel injection. For 2022, the KTM RC range delivers more torque compared to previous models thanks to a new airbox design. The KTM RC 390 has also received a new engine mapping for increased torque and overall rideability.

From an electronic standpoint, the new generation KTM RC range sets the benchmark for the small displacement Supersport segment, with the KTM RC 390 boasting a selection of rider aids usually only available on bigger motorcycles, namely SUPERMOTO ABS, Lean angle sensitive Cornering ABS and Cornering MTC, and the optional Quickshifter+.

KTM MY RIDE can now also be added to the KTM RC 125 and KTM RC 390, thanks to new TFT colour display that allows riders to access important information at a glance, with the added flexibility of being able to tailor the display to show what they want to see. The display also automatically adapts its brightness to ambient light.

As a package, the 2022 KTM RC lineup promises to bring more READY TO RACE to the realm of Supersport with real, race-bred ability and technology to match.

The new generation KTM RC range will be available in dealers March 2022.

The Hyper-focused KTM RC 8C Rockets Off The Line In Under 5 Minutes

Pre-orders for KTM’s latest and exclusive track machine went live online at 16:00 CEST on 22 July 2021. By 16:04:32, they were all sold.

It took a mere 4 minutes and 32 seconds for all 100 ultra-exclusive KTM RC 8C track bikes to sell out via KTM’s digital sales platform, with 25 of those buyers opting to take delivery of their machines at an equally exclusive handover event at Jerez.

The KTM RC 8C is an exciting entrant into the supersport segment, drawing inspiration directly from KTM’s track racing efforts in a bid to offer exclusive Grand Prix-type performance in a user-friendly package.

Co-engineered in close partnership with Krämer Motorcycles, the KTM RC 8C is built using high end, high performance racing componentry, but makes use of a LC8c production engine – as used in the KTM 890 DUKE R – to ensure easier maintenance and parts availability. The idea was to create a track-based motorcycle capable of pumping out the highest levels of performance and handling, without needing overly sophisticated electronics or unobtainable tools in the pits.

25 out of 100 lucky customers were also able to book a very exclusive and private KTM RC 8C Track Experience that will take place at Jerez from October 7-9, where they’ll get to ride alongside Red Bull KTM Factory Racing test riders Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio.

No doubt, the quick-fire and rapid orders meant a few KTM fans missed out, but KTM has created an online waiting list, which will allow interested buyers the chance to get their hands on a KTM RC 8C should any previous reservation be canceled.

Extreme Hyperfocus – The Track-Only KTM RC 8C Is Ready To Race

Rolling out of pit lane and directly onto the starting grid, the KTM RC 8C is a limited production track-only motorcycle built to satisfy the apex-slaying needs of orange-bleeding track warriors. Dedicated to putting in fast lap times with unmatched hyper-focused precision, the KTM RC 8C is undeniably, READY TO RACE!

The KTM RC 8C is a purpose-built, lightweight racing prototype which uses the familiar LC8c engine from the KTM 890 DUKE R in a bespoke, track-ready chassis, bristling with high-end racing componentry. In essence, the KTM RC 8C allows customers the opportunity to own a machine that is as close to a Factory race bike as possible – without the drawbacks of needing a specialist race team to maintain it.

Engineered to be 100% ready for the track, the KTM RC 8C is a completely hand-built machine, powered by a high-torque production engine to allow for easy maintenance.

Under the lightweight, KTM RC16-inspired carbon Kevlar reinforced GRP bodywork lies a 128 Hp, 889 cc LC8c, DOHC, 8 valve parallel twin, bolted into a dedicated 25CrMo4 steel tubular frame, augmented by a selection of WP Pro Components at either end.

Upfront, a hand built 43 mm WP APEX PRO 7543 closed cartridge fork made from high quality, lightweight material is used. Developed with the experience gained from KTM Factory Racing efforts across a number of international championships, the suspension is assembled in the same department which builds and maintains the suspension of the KTM RC16, it guarantees the best performance for race-oriented motorcyclists and professional racers. The fork also boasts zero hydraulic stroke limitation, meaning riders can continually control the damping properties.

A WP APEX PRO 7746 shock with preload adjuster takes charge of matter at the rear, and can be easily adjusted to suit all riders, and almost any situation by means of separate high and low-speed compression and rebound settings.

Being a focused track-only motorcycle, every detail is dedicated to race craft. From the quick-release tank and body panels, to the lightweight Dymag wheels and Pirelli SC1 race slicks, the KTM RC 8C makes its intentions known.

Maximum braking performance is taken care of by Brembo race-spec equipment, with Brembo Stylema front brake calipers grabbing 290 mm fully floating brake disks with aluminum rotors fastened by titanium screws, and for the rear a Brembo two piston caliper with a 230 mm fully floating disk mounted directly on the hub.

The KTM RC 8C is also fitted with a Brembo 19RCS CORSA CORTA radial master cylinder, which features a host of innovations, with many of the technical solutions adopted drawn directly from the master cylinders used in MotoGP™. The most significant being that riders are able to tailor the “bite point” exactly where they want it, with an easily accessible selector on the top of the master cylinder itself.

Ensuring data is collected and collated, the KTM RC 8C makes use of the AIM MXS 1.2 RACE dashboard and data logger with integrated GPS function. All information is displayed via a 5“ TFT display with integrated data recording, which is continually logged and can be analyzed in AIM Race Studio.

In summary:
// Limited to only 100 units worldwide
// Hand built exclusively for track use
// 128 Hp, 140 kg dry weight, near 1:1 power/weight ratio
// Dedicated racing exhaust with Akrapovič titanium muffler
// Dedicated air box and racing air filter
// Bespoke frame made with 25CrMo4 steel tubular
// WP APEX PRO components fork and rear shock
// Race-spec Brembo brake components

The exclusive KTM RC 8C will be available for pre-order from the 22 July at 16:00 CEST.

Alongside the KTM RC 8C itself, customers also have the opportunity to join the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing test team at a one-off customer event. Limited to only 25 customers, the exclusive event will give you a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride with the likes of Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio, as they give you tips during a full day at Circuito de Jerez. All those opting for the KTM RC 8C race track experience, will additionally receive the KTM RC 8C race track package.

This package includes:
// Extra set of Dymag wheels (Front and Rear)
// Extras set of front and rear brake discs
// Front and rear paddock stands
// Tire warmers
// KTM pit mat

With a basecamp set in the beachside city of Nafpaktos, Adventure riders will be spoiled for choice when it comes to riding terrain. Each of the three daily routes will head into a different direction, looping back to basecamp at the end of each day. From sweeping dusty roads to endless mountain tops, the 2021 edition of KTM’s flagship community event will allow participants to explore the full potential of their KTM machines.

Participants can join one of the riding groups guided by KTM staff to explore the many offroad trails through the mountains and valleys of mainland Greece. Riders can also try their skills exploring the hidden paths of that region at their own pace by taking the self-navigating option.

The KTM ADVENTURE RALLY presents a great opportunity for riders of various skill levels to pack their panniers and hit the road with a group of likeminded ‘orange bleeders’ who relish exploring the great outdoors off the beaten track. Organized by KTM, this event will additionally allow participants to get a real taste of the growing global Adventure community and ride alongside KTM staff and VIP guests.

A very limited number of registrations for the upcoming European KTM ADVENTURE RALLY has become available on ktm.com

KTM Fan Stand Returns To MotoGP At Silverstone

Silverstone is READY TO RACE again in 2021, with MotoGP being held across the weekend of 27th-29th August. It will be two years since fans saw, heard, felt and smelt the unique experience of the pinnacle of motorcycle racing at the Northamptonshire track, and KTM will be there to welcome fans in a special KTM Fan Stand for those that bleed Orange!

KTM will return to Copse A, with a KTM Fan Stand full of fans of the winning Austrian marque. With the KTM Factory Racing Team leading the Moto2™ and Moto3™ championships at the time of writing, and having a race winning package in MotoGP™, there will be no shortage of opportunities to be right at the heart of the action. You’ll see all the action, from the tension at the start to the celebrations at the finish at a prime spot on the circuit. And with a giant screen available you won’t miss a millisecond of action. It’s covered, too, so if someone forgets to book the weather then you’ll stay dry throughout.

All KTM Fan Stand ticket holders will be able to collect their complimentary KTM Fan Package on Sunday morning at the circuit. The KTM Fan Package comprises a specially designed KTM T-shirt, cap, face mask, ear plugs and a draw string bag to keep it all in. Don the lot ahead of the racing and show your support for your favourite riders – be it Pedro Acosta, Remy Gardner or the very dynamic duo in the top class of Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder.

We’ve waiting a long time for MotoGP™ to return and for KTM to reopen the Fan Stand, so make sure you don’t miss out on the most exciting weekend of the year – and your KTM Fan Package – by booking your tickets by visiting the Silverstone website today!
