Ventura Set Up The Scrambler

Praised for being easy to ride, compact and lightweight, and with lots of low to mid-range power, Ducati’s Scrambler range has potential for a weekend away, as well as cruising the high street.
With a compact seat and no secure strapping points, the Scrambler offers little concession to carrying luggage; its stripped-down retro look doesn’t lend itself to bulky, hard cases either. Discreet, lightweight and easy to fit, the Ventura Bike Pack System offers the ideal solution.
The Ventura system combines the best features of hard and soft luggage: a sturdy rack to hold the load securely, plus a range of  lightweight, soft and semi-soft bags that are easy to handle off the bike and can be stashed away when not in use. It adds no extra width to the bike, is much lighter than hard cases and won’t affect the machine’s handling or performance.
The Pack’s unique ‘slide on, ride off’ fitment eliminates the need for unreliable and potentially damaging straps/bungee cords and doesn’t use a fiddly lock and key system, so it’s quick and easy to detach and reattach. When riding solo, the pack sits over the pillion seat keeping the weight closer to the bike’s centre of gravity, for a stable ride. When carrying a passenger simply flip the bag round, so it sits on the rack.
When the journey ends, and for daily/commuting use, both Pack and Rack can be removed in seconds, leaving only the discrete L-Brackets behind. The rider then has the option of fitting a pillion Grab Handle or a Sport Rack, for transporting small loads.
A complete system for the Scrambler, including L-Brackets, Pack Rack and 47-litre Mistral I Pack (as pictured), costs £307- including VAT. Call 01256 704909 or visit www.ventura-bike.co.uk for a full fitment list, and to view the rack and pack options.

New Peugeot Metropolis Blue-Line

New for summer 2015, the Blue-Line is a special edition of the Peugeot Metropolis 3-wheel scooter.

Its distinctive two-tone bodywork is inspired by the latest automotive colour trends and is enhanced by machined black wheels with blue detailing and a dual-texture sport seat, highlighted with blue stitching. The Blue-Line also gets a low-profile smoked sport windscreen and black engine casing.

Power is supplied by Peugeot’s new 400i Low Friction Engine, which is quiet, smooth and delivers excellent fuel economy. The two front wheels tilt when cornering, so the Metropolis corners and steers like a motorcycle, but with three tyres gripping the road, it is reassuringly stable, whatever the conditions. Riders can lock the Metropolis upright at the push of a button, for improved stability in slow-moving/stationary traffic, at the petrol pumps and for ease when pushing it into a parking space.

Synchro Braking links the twin 200mm front disc brakes and 240mm rear for powerful and controlled stopping. Tyre pressure monitors, with a real time display in the dashboard, are included as standard.

Other technical features include an electronic key-less ignition that is recognised within 1.5 m of the Metropolis and an electric parking brake, operated by a switch located in the centre of the handlebars. Bright daytime LED running lights feature between the front wheels.

Twin storage bays located beneath the seat and boot can be independently opened remotely using buttons on the dashboard and there is a 12-volt power socket in the glove box. The multi-position windscreen can be adjusted without tools.

The Peugeot Metropolis Blue-Line is an A2 category motorcycle but can be ridden on a car licence by drivers who passed their test before 19 January 2013. It sells for £7199- on the road and is covered by a two year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty. For details visit peugeotscooters.co.uk

Bikes, blazers, beards and banter give a two-fingered salute to prostate cancer

For the second year in a row, Triumph, the UK’s leading large-capacity motorcycle manufacturer, will once again partner with The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) for its global programme of fundraising rideouts. Taking place in over 400 cities around the world, groups of riders, on all makes and models, will dress dapper and tour the town – all in the name of prostate cancer.

A global phenomenon founded by a group of Australian friends in 2012, the DGR aims to offset the downbeat perception often linked to motorcyclists, while raising money for a hugely worthwhile cause. It’s all about scramblers, café racers, classic-styled bikes and bobbers, as well as the charming chaps and chapesses that own them. What’s important is having a great ride, conveying our class and raising awareness of a disease that kills one gentlemen every hour somewhere in the world.

Mark Hawwa, founder of the DGR, comments: “I wanted to bring together the classic custom scene with some simple criteria – dress like a gentleman, wear open-face lids so we can smile at each other politely and ride a bike with appropriate character.

“Our first focus was on fun, but we also wanted to break the stereotypes that society associates with men on bikes. Since our first event in 2013, we’ve raised a huge amount for prostate cancer charities and now host annual rideouts in 38 countries across the globe.”

“This year, we’re hoping for an even bigger and better event – something the ongoing support of Triumph Motorcycles will help us to achieve. Triumph is the perfect partner for us, not only because they are an authentic iconic motorcycle brand, but they are approachable, accessible and completely committed to enjoying the ride.”

Director of sales and marketing for Triumph, Paul Stroud, commented: “The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a fantastic activity for us to support, based on riding bikes with friends and enjoying the camaraderie that this brings. Raising money for such a worthwhile cause, on a global basis, only adds to the reasons why we were so keen to be involved.”

Registration for this year’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is open now. For further information or to book your place, please visit www.triumph.co.uk or www.gentlemansride.com

Multistrada 1200 S D|air arrives at UK Ducati dealerships

The new 2015 Multistrada 1200 S D|air is now available to order from Ducati dealers throughout the UK.

The new Multistrada 1200 S D|air is a milestone in terms of technological innovation and riding enjoyment complementing the other ‘as-standard’ bike safety features. The intelligent vehicle-integrated system is wireless-connected to the Dainese-made Ducati Apparel D|air airbag jacket. The Multistrada D|air system analyses the data, inflating the jacket airbags (rider and passenger) in just 45 milliseconds, considerably reducing the risk of impact-related injuries. The Multistrada 1200 S D|air has TÜV SÜD certification issued by the authoritative German body responsible for wearable airbag standards.

The Multistrada 1200 S D|air was recently awarded the prestigious Professor Ferdinand Porsche award for technological innovation by the Vienna University of Technology. This is the first time a motorcycle has won the sought-after award, which celebrates engineering excellence in the European automotive industry.

The D|air system adds to a motorcycle that already brims with electronic technology. For example, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) dynamically measures roll and pitch angles as well as the acceleration on three axis; with this information, the Bosch IMU enables Cornering ABS, Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL) Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and interacts with the semi-active Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) Evolution control system featured on the Multistrada 1200 S. The bike also features the first motorcycle engine with variable timing of both the intake and exhaust camshafts, named Ducati Testastretta DVT, Desmodromic Variable Timing.

The 2015 version of the Multistrada 1200 S D|air is available from dealers with an RRP of £16,190 and is offered with Ducati TriOptions finance from £195 per month.

Triumph Scrambler Featured in Jurassic World Raises a Record Breaking £28,000

Last weekend, 2 August, the global charity auction of an iconic Triumph Scrambler ridden by action hero Chris Pratt in Jurassic World closed after ten days and 90 bids.

The bespoke bike, which was featured racing alongside Raptors in this summer’s blockbuster is a one-off piece of movie history and raised $43,752 or £28,000 in aid of those battling Prostate Cancer, via Triumph’s official charity partner The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.

The bike’s new owner joins a very exclusive club as just 3 bikes were made for the filming of Jurassic World, with the other 2 owned by Chris Pratt and Triumph.

The Scrambler is based on the brand’s iconic Bonneville model, combining classic off-road influences with the Hinckley firm’s signature twin cylinder, 865cc engine. Triumph is a long-standing partner to Hollywood films, and superstars from Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando and more recently Bradley Cooper, George Clooney and Ryan Reynolds.

Ducatisumisura, the new Ducati website for personalised motorcycle suit

Customise a Ducati suit by modifying its colours and adding logos and texts with just one click. The new website Ducatisumisura (www.ducatisumisura.com) is online. The site of the iconic Bologna motorcycle manufacturer dedicated to the ‘SuMisura’ (i.e. custom made) project was born in collaboration with Dainese to satisfy requests for personalising Ducati suits.

Ducatisumisura.com offers the possibility to create an online sketch of one’s perfect suit: the website has all the instructions to fine-tune the suit and a configurator that lets the user personalize the chosen model. Once the sketch is complete it can be printed, saved and sent to a trusted dealership that will order the suit created by the client.

At Ducatisumisura.com four models of suits can be chosen from: Ducati Corse C2 Racing suit, D|air® racing Ducati Corse Racing suit, Ducati Corse Lady Racing suit and the Ducati Corse C2 Two-piece suit.

For those who don’t wear standard sizes, they can find the “custom made” section on the new website where they can make an appointment with a Ducati dealer who will take their measurements and finalise all aspects of the suit.

A summer with the Ducati Scrambler T-shirts and travel bags

There’s a world to explore as well as the Ducati Scrambler way of life in the new Ducati brand’s collection of T-shirts, travel bags and knapsacks. The collection of outdoor and casual T-shirts is ideal for the summer season

There are nine different Ducati Scrambler T-shirts in the collection for men; colour schemes range from high contrasts to solid colours, from melange grey to yellow and optical white. There are three different T-shirts for women in ivory, optical white and black. Two of the women’s T-shirt models are made in viscose while the third is in malfilé cotton. Each T-shirt in the women’s collection has designs both on the front and the back, printed with water-based dyes or plastisol, sometimes even with glitter.

Summer road trips by bike lack a certain something if the right bag – a faithful companion on all the best road trips – is missing. The Ducati Scrambler travel accessories collection includes a wide range of bags such as the Messenger as well as saddle bags and tank bags.

The waterproof bags come in either brown or dark green in colour to underline their outdoor character, but the Ducati Scrambler travel bags are above all practical. The set of Urban Enduro watertight saddle bags made with a plastic tarpaulin material, is resistant, versatile and ideal for daily motorcycle use. The set of Classic saddle bags in eco leather and fabric is more vintage in style while the Full Throttle side panniers are made of thermoformed plastic, minimalist in style but not in capacity. Then there’s the tarpaulin Urban Enduro bag which can be fitted to the passenger seat. Last but not least is the magnetic Urban Enduro tank bag which is easy to install thanks to magnets on its underside and it’s safe to use even in the rain as it is a waterproof accessory with a ten litre capacity – the same as a briefcase.

No trip is complete without the new Utah picnic rug made of 100% cotton with a tartan design. Conceived for those who want to live close to nature, the Utah rug is yellow and black, purposefully designed to be reminiscent of the Ducati Scrambler. Furthermore it’s extremely light, compact and easy to carry. When taking to the road with Ducati Scrambler apparel and travel accessories, the trip immediately gains a certain sense of adventure and fun as well as full comfort.

Ducati Scrambler apparel and accessories are available at the Scrambler Camps and from all Ducati dealers, as well as through the Ducati Scrambler website (http://scramblerducati.com/en/apparel) or at the online shop section (http://shop.ducati.com/gb/scrambler.html).

ENGINE ASSEMBLY LINE

This is the area of the plant where the legendary twin cylinder engines are assembled by hand, one by one. Here a unique powerplant was born and made history with its exclusive architecture that marked the history of Moto Guzzi and the motorcycling world.

MOTORCYCLE ASSEMBLY LINE

Here is where the Moto Guzzi bikes take shape. Here the finished twin cylinder meets the motorcycle that will accompany it for the rest of its life. On the line visitors will be able to follow, step after step, operation after operation, the birth of that jewel of technology and fine Italian manufacturing that each Moto Guzzi has represented for more than 90 years.

The Ducati Scrambler is back in town

The Land of Joy is back in Bologna once again to add some fun to the Ducati Scrambler’s first birthday. This time, the thousand-plus Ducati employees were greeted by an authentic circus with music, entertainment and an actual merry-go-round with, in place of the horses, the four versions of the Ducati Scrambler.

A year after it was unveiled in a world exclusive for the staff, the new Ducati Scrambler brand decided to celebrate the first year of the new bike together with everyone who works at the Bologna base. The mood is even more festive thanks to the record-breaking figures recorded: 9000 Ducati Scramblers were sold throughout the world during the first six months of 2015.

The Ducati Scrambler’s first birthday party took place on 24 July within the Bologna plant, right in front of the main entrance where staff were welcomed by the distinctive yellow container standing on a large green lawn that was fenced off by 80 bales of straw and featured all the signs of a real circus atmosphere.

The guests of honour at the party, in addition to the Icon, Classic, Full Throttle and Urban Enduro versions, were the eight most representative Ducati Scrambler specials. Designed by Radikal Chopper, Mr. Martini, Deus, Officine Mermaid, Holographic Hammer, Fred Krugger and Vibrazioni Art Design, they were there to welcome the staff who enjoyed challenging each other at the punchball, playing darts or simply taking in the exhilarating atmosphere of the Land of Joy. There was also the opportunity for some tasty street food thanks to the presence of the stylish “Furgoncino” street food van from Pesaro.

Pirelli PHANTOM™ Sportscomp original equipment of the new Yamaha XSR700

The legendary tyre from the PHANTOM™ Pirelli line has been chosen to equip the new twin-cylinder Sport Heritage bike from the tuning fork company in 120/70 R17 TL 58V front and 180/55 R17 TL 73V rear sizes

Starting from August, PHANTOM™ Sportscomp it is also available in the same sizes, with (W) speed index to respond to the trend of customization and personalization of motorcycles

Milan (Italy), 24 July 2015 – The legendary Pirelli PHANTOM™ Sportscomp was chosen by Yamaha as original equipment tyres for the XSR700, the new twin-cylinder Sport Heritage bike from the three tuning forks company, in 120/70 R17 front and 180/55 R17 rear sizes.

Chosen due to the characteristics of excellence offered by the PHANTOM™ Sportscomp that, as the new Yamaha XSR700, is a perfect mix of vintage looks and contemporary technology.

Among the strengths of this tyre we may include the easy handling and changes in direction, the stable and predictable behaviour under acceleration and braking, the high capacity of power transmission to the ground and the regular wear combined to excellent mileage.

In addition to the set 120/70 R17 TL 58V front and 180/55 R17 TL 73V rear as original equipment of the Yamaha XSR700, the Sportscomp range is available in 100/90 – 18 front and 150/70 R17 rear sizes and, starting from August, in the same sizes supplied to the Yamaha XSR700 but with (W) speed index that allows its use for customization and personalisation in the classic/vintage style of all sport and naked bikes requiring a speed index in brackets.

PHANTOM™ brand is one of the motorcycle longest and most successful range of Pirelli. Launched in the late 70s, at the time it was dedicated to the big supersport and high performance bikes. Throughout the course of the ‘80 the PHANTOM™ range played the role as standard-bearer of the Pirelli production in all motorcycle applications on the road, extending from the Supertouring segment, to the Supersport up to the “Sportscomp”.
This product was a radical innovation in the history of the Pirelli tyres for motorcycles, bringing the maximum speed limit from 230 to 240 kph and allowing performance levels truly superior compared to the technologies in use in 1985.

With the new millennium Pirelli has radically revised the PHANTOM™ Sportscomp, adding to the sporty pedigree of the Sportscomp the charm and timeless style, thereby creating a Sport Classic line within the Supersport segment.

In line with the Sport Classic philosophy, PHANTOM™ Sportscomp combines the historical tread pattern design of the PHANTOM™ line with the modern technology of the latest high performance tyres.

At a structure level PHANTOM™ Sportscomp uses a steel belt disposed at zero degrees of inclination with respect to the running direction of the tyre. Such a structural element, associated with one or more radial carcass plies of light and durable rayon, guarantees handling and grip even at high speeds. The result is high stability, uniformity in terms of contact area, and being able to optimize the contact patch at the different lean angles on the road.

To better suit the modern needs of road riding, Pirelli has adopted development philosophies which aim to obtain a more “rounded” profile for both front and rear tyres, compared to the more “flat” one of the previous generations tyres. Moreover, thanks to the combined design of the front and rear tyre profiles, PHANTOM™ Sportscomp helps corner approach, holding a line, potential for greater acceleration on corner exit and an improved precision.

As regards the tread pattern, the PHANTOM™ Sportscomp presents a wavy longitudinal groove on both front and rear tyres which promotes fast water drainage, providing confident grip in wet conditions. The tyre has a sportier image with the characteristic “semi-slick” design.

Finally, the compounds used have a high silica percentage which ensures grip in the wet and especially a fast warm up, with a confidence inspiring grip factor on cold or wet tarmac

Ducati UK announce best ever first half sales results

Ducati UK continues to set records with year to date sales in the UK up 36% versus 2014 at nearly 2,200 motorcycles – the best ever first half sales for the company in the UK. The second quarter was also a best ever, up 50% at over 1500 sales and June itself was confirmed as the best month for sales in the history of Ducati in the UK with more than 550 registrations.

Sales records continue to topple in 2015 with March and May being the second and third best sales months ever in the UK and follow an unprecedented level of new model introductions. First to arrive this year was the new Scrambler family, followed quickly by the new 1299 Panigale and the all-new Multistrada 1200 DVT. The limited edition Diavel Titanium and Monster Stripe versions have also contributed to this result.

Tim Maccabee, Managing Director, explained “it’s very pleasing to see our Dealerships deliver such strong results, following on from a record breaking year in 2014. Top selling family so far this year has been the Scrambler which we have seen attract new customers to our brand but has also had widespread interest even outside of the Motorcycle world. Second best-selling family has been the Panigale with over 500 sales including the completely new 1299 models which have attracted excellent comments from press and customers alike. The all-new Multistrada is third best seller, even though we only received the bike in volume from May and we continue to deliver bikes to satisfy customer demand on both this, and the Scrambler families.”

New XSR700 Evolves Yamaha ‘Faster Sons’ Promise

The Faster Sons Philosophy

Yamaha’s Sport Heritage bike building philosophy continues to move forward and evolve. Sharing its strong belief in respecting the iconic styles and designs of Yamaha motorcycles of the past, whilst intending to push the boundaries of motorcycle technology to create amazing bikes with real character that never compromise on riding ability. Yamaha called this new philosophy ‘Faster Sons’, a name that tips its hat in respect to the bikes that came before, whilst also showing pride in the faster sons of today and tomorrow, because above all, we love to ride.

To give tangible proof of this philosophy Yamaha chose to work with legendary Los Angeles based Japanese bike builder Shinya Kimura. Kimura’s shared vision of the Faster Sons philosophy led to a collaboration to produce the ‘Faster Son’, a tangible, real world concept motorcycle that embodied both Yamaha and Kimura’s belief in blending retro style with modern technology.

Design Inspiration

Building on the success of this collaboration, Yamaha is now launching the first production motorcycle that lives and breathes the Faster Sons philosophy. The all-new XSR700 takes its place as the latest model to join the Sport Heritage range, a casual, retro styled street bike that pays tribute to the iconic Yamaha XS650, a pure masterpiece of Yamaha simplistic design that still inspires today.

Underneath the super cool styling beats the heart of Yamaha’s latest technologies, the XSR700 delivers on the promise of the collaboration between Yamaha and Kimura with its perfect mix of timeless style, modern technology and emotional riding experience.

The XSR700 is a feast for the senses; its style is enhanced with a number of high quality parts to complete its look. Riders can enjoy an authentic retro feeling with the two-texture leather seat unit sitting on an easily customizable bolt on rear sub-frame. An old school style headlight and fastening stay sets it off at the front, and an aluminium tank unit reminds the rider they’re sitting on a Faster Sons machine. With a wet weight of just 186kg the XSR700 is the first of its kind, a modern day entry-level icon to style up the riding life of both new and experienced riders.

A period style speedometer sits between the wide tapered back handlebars, which offer a casual & upright riding position for its rider and a trick mesh cover on the side keeps all the high tech electronics under wraps. Use of quality metal materials such as aluminium on several components, including the front fender stay and radiator cover also work to complement the overall retro feel. A short stubby rear muffler provides the right soundtrack and Pirelli Phantom tyres front and rear not only look the part with an authentic pattern, but also do the job to keep the rider connected to the road.

The Ride

It’s not just in looks where the XSR700 delivers; the beating heart of the machine is Yamaha’s class leading 700cc inline 2-cylinder engine. Having powered several of Yamaha’s latest class leading motorcycles to huge success across Europe, the 700cc power plant was a natural choice for the XSR700. Built on the special ‘crossplane philosophy’ the perky motor kicks out a linear, deep torque for not just outstanding acceleration, but smiles in every gear. The uneven firing interval and 270-degree crank ensures a strong sensation of acceleration and outstanding traction, while maintaining continuous smooth & exciting power delivery till high rpm.

Power is of course nothing without control and the XSR700 excels in the handling department with a compact, lightweight chassis for remarkable agility and rideability and a short 530mm swing arm for further control. This combination of engine and chassis ensures the XSR700 is not just the perfect ride for new motorcyclists with the added benefit of ABS as standard, but also a massive dose of fun for more experienced riders.

This combination of engine and chassis ensures the XSR700 is not just the perfect ride for new motorcyclists but also a massive dose of fun for more experienced riders.

The rear suspension is a clever link-type Monocross system featuring a horizontal shock mounted directly to the engine’s crankcase, not only saving space to keep a clean look at the rear but also improving chassis performance.

The modern technology complementing the retro style continues with lightweight 10-spoke aluminium wheels and stopping power courtesy of 282mm wavy discs and 4-pot calipers at the front.

The XSR700 is the first bike of its kind to hit the market from Yamaha that truly delivers the complete Sport Heritage lifestyle, combining everything that is cool and inspiring from the old school custom motorcycle scene with all the latest technology to ensure maximum riding fun.

Accessories

Giving riders the opportunity to express their individual personal touch on the bike is one of the most important values for Yamaha’s Sport Heritage range motorcycles. The XSR700 follows this vision to offer maximum personalization possibilities for every rider, so very wide range of XSR700 accessories are available from the genuine options catalogue. This ensures owners can take the look of their ride even further and take advantage of the easily customizable nature of the bike to personalize their machines. In addition, several globally famous professional custom builders who fell in love with XSR700 concept have been already tasked to work on producing “Yard Built” custom bolt on parts, which will be introduced later this year.

Apparel

To make sure riders can fully immerse themselves in the scene, Yamaha is also creating a full ‘Faster Sons’ apparel range. The range will include super cool leather riding jackets, Sport Heritage gloves and helmets and a host of other items of clothing perfect for both a Sunday morning ride out for coffee or a summer trip to the mecca of custom bike scenes, the Wheels & Waves festival in Biarritz, France.

Guy Martin and Triumph attempt to bring the record back home

Triumph Motorcycles confirms new land speed record attempt in August 2015

  • TT legend and adrenaline junkie Guy Martin confirmed as pilot for the Triumph world record attempt
  • The Triumph Rocket III Streamliner is powered by two 2.3 litre Triumph Rocket III engines, producing 1,000 bhp
  • Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) world record attempt to take place at the Bonneville Speedway, Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah – 23-27 August 2015

Triumph, the iconic British motorbike brand, has confirmed its intention to break the motorcycle land speed record at the salt flats of Bonneville, USA, in August 2015. While the current record stands at 376.363 mph, the Triumph team is aiming to surpass that over the measured mile.

Piloting the purpose built 1,000 bhp Triumph Rocket Streamliner, will be Isle of Man TT racer, truck mechanic and TV presenter Guy Martin. Well known for his love of speed, Guy is relishing the prospect of bringing the land speed record back to Triumph – and the UK – after an absence of 45 years.

Triumph has a long legacy of smashing the land speed record and held the title of ‘World’s Fastest Motorcycle’ from 1955 to 1970 with the exception of a brief 33 day period. The record-breaking Triumph Streamliners which included: Devil’s Arrow, Texas Cee-gar, Dudek Streamliner and Gyronaut X1, the former achieving a top speed of 245.667 mph (395.28 km/h). Today’s bar, held by Rocky Robinson since 2010 riding the Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner, sits at 376.363 mph (605.697 km/h).

The 2015 Triumph Rocket Streamliner features a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction with two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines producing a combined 1,000 bhp at 9,000 rpm. The motorcycle is 25.5 feet long, 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. Powered by methanol fuel, the bike is competing in the Division C (streamlined motorcycle) category.

The iconic Bonneville name was conceived following Johnny Allen’s land-speed record runs at the Salt Flats in September 1955, when he reached the record breaking speed of 193.72 mph. The first T120 Bonneville model was unveiled at the Earls Court Bike Show and went on sale in 1959.

With final testing scheduled at the Bonneville Salt Flats in mid-July, the record attempt will take place 23-27 August 2015.
