THE ORIGINAL SCRAMBLERS & GENESIS FOR TODAY’S SCRAMBLER SCENE
Born from an unparalleled blood line, the new Scrambler 1200 line-up can trace its roots directly back to the original Scrambler scene in the early 1950’s, where Triumph played a pivotal role and set the template for what made a scrambler great.

Building the leading bikes of the day, stripped back with straight-through ‘twin pipes’ fitted high or low sling and chopped off – Triumphs were the original and real desert sleds. These inspired the world’s first production scramblers, with the Bonneville T-120TT, T120C and the TR6’SC’. And these were the bikes that Steve McQueen took to the desert, that Bud Ekins raced and won on, in the dirt, and that competed the most challenging desert races of all time – the Baja 1000. In 2006, with the launch of the very first ‘modern era’ Scrambler, Triumph again delivered the genesis of a new category. This triggered the world of Scramblers we see today and a whole new global fan base, from urban riders to movie stars, all in love with that iconic Triumph scrambler style and timeless silhouette.

TWO BENCHMARK SETTING NEW SCRAMBLER 1200s
Two all-new models comprise the Triumph Scrambler 1200 line-up. The Scrambler 1200 XC, which is built for the road and for real off-road riding fun, and the range-topping Scrambler 1200 XE, which takes the specification to the highest level and its off-road capability and scrambling credentials to the very top of the motorcycling world.

THRILLING PERFORMANCE
Both new Scramblers deliver category leading torque and a dedicated ‘scrambler tune’ courtesy of the latest generation Bonneville High Power 1200cc engine. The charismatic 270° firing interval ensures a smooth, linear power delivery from the slick six-speed gearbox. Evolved specifically for the Scrambler, the 1200 engine provides 90 PS @ 7,400 rpm, which is 12.5% more power than the Bonneville T120 and an incredible 38% more than the 2019 Street Scrambler. Additionally, the Scrambler 1200 power plant is tuned to deliver ‘high torque’ off-road and on, low down and across the mid-range, with peak torque of 110Nm at a low 3,950 rpm. This is also greater that the Street Scrambler by 37.5%. Delivering the Scrambler soundtrack is a beautifully crafted twin high level exhaust system with stainless steel headers and brushed stainless steel silencers for a deep punchy scrambler sound. Just like all the new generation Bonnevilles, the Scrambler 1200 engine delivers leading modern classic capability with ride-by-wire, as well as a sensitively incorporated liquid cooling system for enhanced performance and cleaner, more fuel efficient riding. Both Scrambler 1200 models also feature a high first major service interval of 10,000 miles/16,000 km.

CATEGORY DOMINATING CAPABILITY
Taking the capability to the highest level, the Scrambler 1200s feature a class-leading standard of rider focused technology, including:

  • 2nd generation TFT instruments
Both models feature Triumph’s latest generation full-colour TFT instruments, with a stylish design and two information layout design themes that can be personalised. This includes an all-new feature that allows the rider to update the start-up screen message with their name.
  • Up to 6 riding modes, including ‘Off-Road Pro’
Both models feature Road, Rain, Off-Road, Sport and Rider-configurable riding modes which adjust the throttle response, ABS settings and traction control setting to suit rider preference and riding conditions. On top of these 5 modes, the Scrambler 1200 XE also features the ‘Off-Road Pro’ mode, which delivers our most off-road focused set up for advanced adventure riding and scrambling. Liquid cooling delivers low emissions and fuel efficient riding. High service intervals of 10,000 miles (16,000km) also reduce the Street Twin’s cost of ownership.

EUROPE ONLY

A dealer-fitted A2 licence kit, incorporating APS twist grip and engine tune, will be available for the new Street Twin in applicable markets. This enhances the Street Twin’s accessibility even further, making it a great first choice for new riders.

Higher specification for improved rider control and comfort

The new 2019 Street Twin represents a significant step forward in dynamic handling, exceptional rider and pillion comfort, with a higher level of specification for greater control and an improved ride.

New Brembo 4-piston front brake caliper, featuring premium Brembo branding, provides excellent stopping power, with better bite and feel for greater rider control.

New higher spec cartridge front forks, with 120mm travel, deliver a more comfortable ride.

On top of its higher specification equipment, the new Street Twin has improved rider ergonomics with a more comfortable seat-to-foot riding position, enhancing the overall riding experience. Furthermore, a 10mm increase to the seat foam thickness increases both rider and pillion comfort, improving longer distance rideability.

As a result, the new Street Twin delivers an even better ride with dynamic and intuitive handling set-up for an even more confidence-inspiring and engaging riding experience.

New first-in-class technology

  • The 2019 Street Twin sets a new benchmark for first-in-class technology with:
  • New Road and Rain riding modes, which adjust the throttle map and traction control settings for the optimum riding experience in all conditions
  • New TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) accessory option capability, for greater riding practicality and rider confidence
  • Traction control, which is switchable via the instrument menu and optimises the delivery of the Street Twin’s class-leading torque when traction is compromised
  • ABS for enhanced rider confidence, safety and control
  • Torque-assist clutch bringing a lighter touch and feel to the clutch to make it easier to ride, and ride for longer
  • LED rear light incorporated into the minimal tail set-up with a distinctive rear light pattern and optimal power efficiency
  • Immobiliser fitted as standard, with transponder incorporated into the key, for maximum security
  • USB charging socket located under the seat for the convenient charging of personal electronic devices.

More contemporary custom style

The Street Twin’s stylish custom character has been enhanced further with even more contemporary sophisticated details and touches.

Most noticeable are the beautiful new cast aluminium, multi-spoke wheels with machined detailing – a high quality finishing touch that adds a new dimension to the motorcycle.

The new Street Twin logo, featuring on the new side panel, provides a more contemporary look compared to the previous model.

There is also an upgrade to the instrument styling, with a new bezel complete with high value metallic Bonneville embellisher, plus a new dial face with a premium translucent silver finish and more integrated warning lights.

And there are several other enhanced details across the bike, including:

  • New brushed aluminium headlight brackets
  • New premium foil decal tank badge
  • New seat materials, leather inspired dual-material construction with tactile feel and durable finish
  • New machined headlight detailing

All this comes on top of the Street Twin’s distinctive custom looks and detailing, including:

  • Signature ‘Bonneville’ finned head and header clamps
  • Elegant single throttle body with aluminium finisher
  • Twin upswept brushed stainless-steel silencers

Resurgence of British motorcycle brands drives business for Avon Tyres

Avon Motorcycle Tyres is capitalising on the recent surge of interest in British bike brands, adding OE fitment contracts to its roster and responding to increased demand for premium whitewall tyres.

Despite the motorcycle market hitting a plateau and remaining largely static in the last 12 months, Avon has managed to substantially increase its OE fitment business over the last five years.

A spate of factory fitments to Triumph Motorcycles’ retro-styled modern classic range – including the Bonneville Bobber, Bobber Black models and Thunderbird LT – as well as OE fits on models from Royal Enfield and CCM have driven new business for the Melksham-based tyre brand.

Already the only tyre maker building motorcycle products in the UK today, Avon is also now capitalising on the desire for retro bike style, with classic whitewall products seeing an upsurge in popularity as manufacturers and custom bike builders seek to give their machines the right aesthetics.

Doug Ross, Avon Tyres’ Head of Global Motorcycle Tyre Sales, said: “We now produce more premium whitewall tyres than ever before and that’s testament to the strength of the modern classic market.

“While the motorbike market is largely flat at the moment, we are maintaining our position and, in some areas like OEM relationships, increasing our impact.

“British motorcycle brands have huge cult followings, which provides us with a valuable outlet.”

Avon’s RoadRider rubber is now factory fit for all of Royal Enfield’s 350cc bikes and the new Himalayan model also sits on Avon rubber, while the Cobra tyre is OE fit on the new ‘Spitfire’ Bobber, recently launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by Bolton-based manufacturer, CCM.

Full factory: rider visit prefaces a Triumphant new era

Hinckley is the destination for the pre-event on Wednesday as Triumph play host ahead of their 2019 Moto2™ debut
As the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship prepares to welcome Triumph as the exclusive engine supplier to Moto2™, it was time to get a glimpse of the future at the GoPro British Grand Prix. Heading for Hinckley, British Moto3™ rider John McPhee (CIP – Green Power) was joined by compatriots and intermediate class riders Sam Lowes (Swiss Innovative Investors) and Danny Kent (+Ego Speed Up Racing Team), as well as Luca Marini (Sky Racing Team VR46), Isaac Viñales (Forward Racing Team), Bo Bendsneyder (Tech3 Racing Team) and Joe Roberts (NTS RW Racing GP) for trip to the Triumph factory on Wednesday. After getting a first look at the engine set to power Moto2™, the riders then took some photos alongside the 2019 prototype in the grounds of the factory. To finish the experience and, for some, their look at what 2019 will bring, the visit then also went behind the scenes of the legendary British marque for a tour of the incredible factory and facilities.

Then it was back to the track and time to get in gear for the GoPro British Grand Prix, with a host of events continuing the countdown. First it’s the British Talent Cup Selection Event for 2019, followed by the Day of Champions in aid of the Official Charity of MotoGP™, Two Wheels for Life, on Thursday. Then comes the pre-event Press Conference at 17:00 (GMT +1) on Thursday, before track actions begins on Friday from 9:00 (GMT +1). Don’t miss it!

Sam Lowes: “I’m really happy to be here, obviously being British it’s so nice to be at the factory. For me it’s really impressive the fact that they make many things in house, they build all their bikes by hand here in the factory which is impressive. It was nice to see the engine, we went on the dyno and heard the new bike for next year which is nice and yeah for me, it’s a great feeling, great to be here and yeah looking forward to next year.“For me, being a British rider with a British engine, it’s nice to be part of the first season of Moto2 with the Triumph and I’m really happy and proud of that fact.”
