Vespa GTS

Vespa GTS goes down in history as one of the world’s best-loved two-wheelers, taking up the baton from the legendary “Vespone”, the name given to those Vespas with a large, strictly steel body. Vespa can transport you around the city with style but it is also ready to travel and even adventure, thanks to increasingly generous engine capacity.

Born in 2003 with the arrival of the Vespa GT 125 and 200, the family of large Vespas evolved from 2005, with the arrival of the GTS 250 version followed by engine capacities of up to 300 cc. 2016 saw the Vespa GTS benefit from the family of i-get engines, offering 125 and 150 cc capacity.

For 2019, the entire Vespa GTS range is further improved, with the introduction of a series of updates that boost performance, comfort and style.

The new Vespa GTS range, so rich in terms of its standard outfitting, now comprises five versions: Vespa GTS, GTS Touring, GTS Super, GTS SuperSport and the brand-new, technological Vespa GTS SuperTech, with colour TFT display that maximises connectivity to a smartphone with the VESPA MIA system.

There are two engine types, the already well-known 125 i-get single-cylinder now flanked by the new 300 hpe (High Performance Engine), fruit of the latest Piaggio Group engine technology research, which focuses on the creation of units that are increasingly advanced and efficient in terms of containing emissions and consumption. Able to deliver power in excess of 23 HP, this is the most powerful engine ever seen on a Vespa.

Design: tradition and modernity

The Vespa GTS has always evolved along the path of tradition, striking a magical balance between tradition and modernity in the lines of its body, made strictly of steel.

The numerous updates made to the design of the new Vespa GTS are no exception, the model standing out from previous versions while also retaining its distinctive characteristics. The front light and rear light set now adopt full LED light technology, a solution that contributes to heightening active safety. The front end features a redesigned shield, at the centre of which is the unmistakeable horn cover, now longer and enhanced with three decorations. Also new are the shape of the handlebars, the chrome-plated crest on the front mudguard, the rear-view mirrors and the grilles along the side of the shield, now featuring a brand-new honeycomb motif.

At the rear, the restyling takes in the side panels that run under the body, while versions powered by a 300 hpe engine stand out for their new engine crankcase cover and newly designed silencer cover.

Legendary comfort, further improved

The perfect ergonomics and natural seat position have always contributed to making every Vespa comfortable, pleasant to ride and accessible to all. The new Vespa GTS further highlights the strong touring vocation that large Vespas have always embodied, offering a new saddle able to ensure greater comfort for both rider and passenger. A result achieved thanks to optimised ergonomics and the use of new materials in the padding and upholstery.

The under-saddle compartment makes optimum use of the available space and can accommodate two Vespa Visor 3.0 demi-jet helmets and more. Also adding to the load capacity of the Vespa GTS is the glove box, inside which there is a USB port, useful for the charging of external devices.

The 300 hpe engine: the most powerful and responsive Vespa of all time

The new Vespa GTS is equipped with the latest evolution of the 300 cc, 4-stroke, 4-valve single-cylinder engine, liquid-cooled and with electronic injection: the fruit of work by the Piaggio Group research and development centre and known as 300 hpe (High Performance Engine), the unit has benefited from numerous interventions aimed at increasing performance and rideability, while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and noise levels.

With respect to the previous version, maximum power reaches a value of 17.5 kW (23.8 HP) at 8250 rpm, which translates into a 12% increase, while maximum torque, equating to 26 Nm at 5250 rpm, is boosted by 18%. Values of reference that come into their own during off-the-line acceleration. These improvements come in addition to a significant reduction in consumption, figures going from 29.4 km/l to 31.2 km/l in the WMTC cycle.

In other words, it is the most powerful engine ever mounted on a Vespa, a result achieved thanks to meticulous work by Piaggio technicians across a large number of components. The main aim of the project was to optimise thermodynamic performance and reduce friction and engine noise, while at the same time increasing performance and general rideability. All without impacting on size or bulk, which remain the same as for the previous unit, at the top of its category.

The cylinder head is born out of a brand-new casting and is characterised by totally redesigned internal components: the ducts have a new geometry and diameter (now greater), as do the intake and exhaust valves, the diameter of which has been increased by 3 mm. The adoption of a new-look piston, particularly in terms of its head shape, has resulted in a highly efficient combustion chamber.

The single camshaft system with overhead valves is all new, rockers equipped with roller tappets rather than sliders for increased fluidity and durability, and a reduction in mechanical loss. The profile of the camshaft has been redesigned to obtain different valve lift profiles, more extreme but also able to reduce the noise generated by the timing: essentially, greater valve lift duration ensures better filling of the combustion chamber, which translates into greater efficiency. As a result, the valve springs have also been altered in terms of load and size.

The introduction of a new high-pressure multi-jet injector has helped to improve combustion. A more generous intake line, equipped with a duct of optimised length, improves the torque delivered at low revs and ensures exceptionally smooth shifting at any speed. The new iridium spark plug ensures greater durability, conditions of use being equal.

The many modifications made to the engine have also boosted the already legendary Vespa GTS reliability, as demonstrated by the significant maintenance intervals, now extended to 10,000 km.

Transmission has also been overhauled, the CVT boasting a more robust belt and new materials designed to reduce friction and noise. All of this is enveloped by a new cover coated with sound absorbing material, for a reduction in mechanical noise, also aided by a new and more rigid clutch drum.

The engine is controlled by a latest-generation Magneti Marelli MIUG4 ECU, which already conforms with the future Euro 5 standard: equipped with greater calculation capacity, it contributes to improving overall engine efficiency and also allows for the engine to be started practically instantaneously, after just two rotations of the crankshaft.

125 i-get engine

All models in the new Vespa GTS range are also available with the 125 four-valve i-get engine with electronic injection and liquid cooling. An engine that tops its category in terms of performance and respect for the environment.

Engines in the i-get family stand out for their adoption of the Piaggio-patented Start & Stop system known as RISS (Regulator Inverter Start & Stop System). The system eliminates the traditional starter, replaced by a brushless “direct mount” electrical device, installed directly on the crankshaft. There are many advantages to this, including quieter starts, reduced weight, greater reliability, and lower fuel consumption. Piaggio’s Start & Stop system automatically switches off the engine 3 to 7 seconds after the vehicle has stopped (depending on whether the engine has reached its correct operating temperature or not). A minimal rotation of the throttle is enough to instantly re-start the engine, absolutely silently, as there is no traditional starter. If the side stand is deployed or the tilt sensor comes into operation, the control unit cuts off the Start & Stop function, that is, the engine turns off and will not re-start automatically.

The 125 i-get engine is accredited with power of 9 kW at 8250 rpm. Translated onto the road, this data makes for a brilliant engine, specifically designed and created with the needs of the user in mind, for optimum riding in built-up, urban environments. Such riding conditions are marked by frequent starts and stops which require elasticity, lively acceleration and a smooth ride. Characteristics ensured by the optimum torque value (11.1 Nm at 6750 rpm), which allows the Vespa GTS to excel when it comes to the standing start and pickup. All with a declared WMTC cycle consumption of 41.6 km/l.

Technology aimed at maximum safety

As is the case for every Vespa produced between 1946 and today, the body of the Vespa GTS is produced strictly in steel and offers unrivalled robustness, as well as unique levels of safety and dynamism. The result is a particularly brilliant ride both in city traffic as well as on country roads: an exhilarating mix of handling and reassuring stability, also thanks to the generous section tyres fitted on 12 inch diameter wheel rims. The double-disc braking system ensures prompt deceleration, even during sports use, with a reserve of modularity to put even neophytes at ease.

The Piaggio Group is the first manufacturer to introduce scooter ASR electronic traction control, once available only on the best motorcycles, which prevents wheelspin. The electronic control package is rounded-off by the ABS anti-braking system. Both are supplied as standard with the Vespa GTS family.

Always connected with VESPA MIA

The VESPA MIA connectivity system allows you to connect your smartphone to the on-board electronic system of the Vespa GTS via Bluetooth, for exclusive functionality that is sure to make the riding experience even more satisfying and fun.

VESPA MIA and the new Vespa App are specifically designed to connect iOS or Android mobile devices to those latest Vespa models equipped with an instrument cluster and TFT display, namely Vespa Elettrica, Vespa Primavera S and Vespa Sprint S, and the brand-new entry to the Vespa GTS range, the SuperTech.

Once a smartphone is connected to the Vespa GTS SuperTech – associating the phone via the dedicated Vespa App, available for download in the App Store or Google Play – the TFT display will show all notifications regarding incoming calls and messages in the centre of the screen. The system also allows for the management of calls, thanks to the practical joystick located on the left-hand control block, and the use of smartphone voice commands when making calls or reproducing music, with the activation of a playlist. To fully appreciate this functionality, Vespa GTS SuperTech proposes a dedicated Jet helmet as an accessory, which is integrated with earphones and a Bluetooth intercom.

The display also serves as a navigation tool, accompanying the rider on a pre-set route set up on the Vespa App, with directions and pictograms.

VESPA MIA is included as standard on the Vespa GTS SuperTech, while the Vespa Multimedia Platform is available as an accessory for other models in the new Vespa GTS range. As well as infotainment and navigational functions, which make use of the instrument panel with TFT display, the app is also an exceptional source of useful information regarding vehicle status, riding parameters and travel statistics, which can be viewed on the smartphone. The VESPA MIA technology optimises Vespa GTS usage whether riding in an urban or non-urban environment, thus enhancing the travel experience.

Versions and colours

The classic version of the Vespa GTS is offered in a Dolomite Grey shade as well as in two new colours, Relax Green and Energy Blue. This base model gives way to the adventurous Vespa GTS Touring, a tribute to the Vespa travelling vocation. Millions of Vespa, equipped for tourism, have long since travelled the world’s roads, giving entire generations the opportunity to get to know each other, by broadening their horizons and encountering different cultures. Vespa GTS Touring stands out for its evocative top fairing, which offers added protection without impacting on its elegance (thanks to its reduced size), and its rear luggage rack that, combined with the spacious under-saddle compartment, guarantees excellent load capacity when embarking on those unforgettable holidays, alone or in two. Available in Vignola Red and the new Wood Green, Vespa GTS Touring also features a refined and elegantly upholstered saddle and a dedicated plate on the back of the shield.

The GTS Super version embodies the typical Vespa values of style, comfort, safety and also outstanding sportiness , taking up the baton from legendary sports models of the past, such as the 1955 Vespa GS 150, the 1965 Vespa 180 SS and the 1985 T5 “Pole Position”. Immediately identifiable by its black rims with diamond-shaped finish and double-upholstered saddle with clasp, it is available in four colours: Innocence White, Polished Black, and Passion Red, as well as the new Summer Yellow.

Vespa GTS SuperSport is the ultimate in Vespa sportiness, boasting a strong character that is emphasised by total black rims and two bold matte colours, namely Titanium Grey and the brand-new Vivid Blue, both enhanced with new dedicated graphics. As with the Super, GTS SuperSport also stands out for its double-upholstered saddle with clasp.

The new Vespa GTS SuperTech represents the top of the Vespa GTS range, the ultimate in sportiness and technology. GTS SuperTech is the first large-bodied Vespa to adopt a fully digital instrument cluster with 4.3″ full colour TFT display. The instrument panel, as well as displaying all the classic information such as speed, total and partial mileage, ambient temperature, and fuel level, works as a display for the VESPA MIA smartphone connectivity system.

Aesthetically, Vespa GTS SuperTech is characterised by wheel rims and horn cover decorations that have a special matte black finish. The yellow painted front shock spring serves as an original element that contrasts with the two available colours of Volcano Black and Matter Grey. Even the seats have a “hi-tech” finish, with double upholstery and two-colour stitching with yellow detailing.

Accessories

In line with Vespa tradition, the new GTS boasts a wide range of accessories with which to personalise the vehicle and increase comfort and functionality.

The top box, which can accommodate a full-face helmet or two jet helmets, is painted to match the chassis and comes complete with a padded back rest to optimise passenger comfort.

The chrome front and rear luggage racks are among the most requested and appreciated accessories and characterise the Vespa personality in a strong and distinct fashion, as well as underscoring its long touring history.

The perimeter guard kit is just one of the chrome accessories and guarantees maximum Vespa protection while making a strong aesthetic impact. For an added touch of elegance, an all-Italian brown real leather seat is available.

Protection on board is guaranteed by the methacrylate impact and splinter resistant windshield and by the high-quality transparent or smoke top fairing with its compact and sporty lines. The leg cover in thermal material is easy to install and offers year-round riding comfort. The set of accessories is completed with an anti-slip, waterproof rubber mat, outdoor and indoor vehicle covers, a mechanical anti-theft system, inner top box bag, luggage straps and a smartphone bracket.

Also available for the Super and SuperSport versions, in addition to the perimeter guards and luggage rack in matte black, are a sports saddle that combines two technical materials and sophisticated aluminium details that enhance the sports look, specifically a top fairing, mudguard crest, rear-view mirrors and a handlebar control component kit, which includes brake levers, hand grips and handlebar tips in billet aluminium.

Vespa Elettrica

It’s not an electric scooter, it’s a Vespa Elettrica, a work of art with the highest technological content, symbolising both our modernity and the years to come.

Vespa Elettrica is the most modern icon of Italian technology. It is synonymous with advanced connectivity and quiet operation, customisation and accessibility, respect for the environment and unique style. Vespa has always embodied these values, now fully expressed in Vespa Elettrica, confirming its status as a brand that has always been ahead of its time.

Vespa Elettrica, with its easy, or rather, natural ride, is the highest expression of Piaggio Group’s research into electric mobility. The group aims to respond to growing environmental concerns, providing technological solutions for an increasingly sustainable and liveable urban habitat.

Always an innovator, Vespa Elettrica continues to evolve: alongside the original version, created for purely urban use and therefore homologated as a moped, with a top speed of 45 km/h, Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h is also available.

VESPA ELETTRICA 70 KM/H: EVEN MORE POWERFUL AND SILENT
Silent, ecological, innovative and today even more powerful: fruit of the Piaggio Group’s experience with the Power Unit and lithium-ion battery, the Vespa Elettrica is now also available in the brand new 70 km/h version.

The higher performance of the Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h, homologated as a motorcycle, is due to a general optimisation of all components: Power Unit, Vehicle Management System and battery pack. The result is a higher top speed with no change to Vespa Elettrica’s typically sharp acceleration and with an almost identical range. In ECO mode, at a top speed of 45 km/h, the Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h provides the same maximum range of up to 100 km, while in Power mode it can travel for up to 70 km.

The battery retains the size and weight of the original version, but has been modified to deliver a higher continuous power output, something also assisted by improvements to the electric motor’s control software. These developments have made it possible to lengthen the final transmission ratio, providing a number of advantages: a higher speed, with the same performance in terms of acceleration and standing start, and also quieter operation, with a lower rpm at the same speed.

Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h stands out for specific stylistic details: the front shock absorber spring is painted red, as are the decorations on the cover of the Power Unit and the ‘Elettrica’ nameplate.

I AM THE POWER
The heart of Vespa Elettrica is a Power Unit capable of delivering continuous power of 3.6 kW and peak power of 4 kW: values that, combined with a torque of over 200 Nm, , provide superior to performance a traditional 50 cc scooter, especially in terms of acceleration and uphill power which benefits from the typical brilliant delivery of electric motors. This results in an agile and enjoyable ride on urban routes in total silence. In fact, Vespa Elettrica is completely silent, helping to make cities less chaotic and more liveable, countering pollution even in terms of noise.

Vespa Elettrica guarantees a maximum range of up to 100 km, a value that does not change significantly on a rural route, thanks to a modern lithium ion battery and an efficient Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), which charges it in the deceleration phases. Charging operations are the simplest thing imaginable: the lithium-ion battery, just like the one in modern smartphones, needs no special precautions. To charge, simply extract the cable from the seat compartment, where the fuel cap is usually located, and plug in to a normal wall outlet or one of the growing number of public charging stations in big cities. The standard time required for a full charge is 4 hours (with voltage of 220 V).

As further confirmation of how extremely easy user-friendly Vespa Elettrica is, the motor and battery pack are completely maintenance-free. The battery provides excellent efficiency for up to 1000 full charging cycles. This translates into a range of between 50,000 and 70,000 km, equivalent to approximately 10 years of operation for a vehicle intended for urban commuting. Even after the thousand charging cycles, the battery still maintains 80% of its capacity and is perfectly usable. Located under the helmet compartment, the compact battery pack does not compromise the functionality of the Vespa Elettrica seat compartment, which can hold a Jet helmet.

The Ride by Wire electronic accelerator controls the power output of Vespa Elettrica’s motor. By pressing the MAP button on the right hand side of the handlebar, , the driver can choose between two driving modes: ECO and Power, in addition to Reverse mode for easier handling of Vespa Elettrica while manoeuvring. ECO mode, intended to save energy, extends battery life; speed is limited to 30 km/h (45 km/h for the motorcycle version) and acceleration is more progressive. However, Power is the basic riding mode which fully exploits the power of the motor.

VESPA ELETTRICA, CONNECTED TO THE WORLD
Vespa Elettrica is not just a silent, ecological and technologically advanced vehicle; It is also, and above all, connected.: The many features offered by a new version of the Vespa Multimedia Platform, the multimedia system that connects a smartphone to the vehicle, can be managed through a man-machine interface incorporating a digital instrument panel with a 4.3 inch colour TFT display, always easy to read thanks to the twilight sensor that adapts the background and colour of the characters to the light conditions (day/night mode) and the four adjustable brightness levels.

The extensive information displayed is arranged in a very impressive and extremely rational graphic diagram. The centre of the screen always contains the main information such as speed, selected riding modes, residual range in km and battery charge level (%), while the ecological riding quality and the level of energy used or recovered during the ride are indicated on either side. But it is using the dedicated Vespa App on your smartphone and connecting it to the vehicle – via Bluetooth – that lets you take full advantage of the capabilities of the TFT display on which all notifications of incoming calls and messages appear, highly visible in the centre.

The system also allows you to use the handlebar buttons to answer calls and to use the smartphone’s voice commands to make calls or play music from your own playlist. To fully enjoy all these features, easily managed through the handy joystick on the right control block, a special dedicated Jet helmet with built-in earphones and Bluetooth intercom is available for Vespa Elettrica as an optional accessory.

Of course, the predisposition for connection to the outside world is not limited to the various Infotainment functions. thanks to the dedicated Vespa App, once connected to Vespa Elettrica, your smartphone becomes an exceptional source of parameters in real time, as well as other useful information on vehicle use, including trip time and distance, battery charge use percentage, statistics on the last 30 trips, push notifications on the battery charge status, number of recharge cycles carried out and much more.

Vespa Elettrica is always unique and customisable
Vespa Elettrica is designed with the same unmistakable lines that have made Vespa an icon of style and elegance around the globe and won the hearts of entire generations of young people.

The body shape, strictly in steel in accordance with the best Vespa tradition, is emphasised by an exclusive dedicated livery: In fact, Vespa Elettrica comes in a special grey finish, around which the customer can choose to tailor many distinctive details. In fact, the profile that runs along the entire perimeter of the shield, the ‘neck tie’ decoration, the edge of the wheel rims, the profile of the ‘Elettrica’ nameplate and the seat trim are available in six colour variants: Azzurro Electrical (standard on Vespa Elettrica), Verde Boreale, Giallo Lampo, Cromo, Nero Profondo and Grigio Fumo.

Vespa Elettrica 70 km/h offers standard finishes in Giallo Lampo and is available in three other colour variants: Azzurro Elettrico, Cromo and Nero Profondo.

Plus, in line with the customised “total look” concept, a special Jet helmet is available exclusively for Vespa Elettrica that matches the vehicle livery and finishes, all in the colour chosen by the customer. This helmet stands out not only for style but also technological content, with built-in Bluetooth earphones so you can use your smartphone and listen to music through the VESPA MIA system.

The front headlight with LED technology and the rear light cluster give an even more distinct personality to Vespa Elettrica, which adopts generous 12″ front and 11″ rear aluminium alloy rims. Comfort benefits from a seat made of a material capable of providing maximum comfort for rider and passenger, as well as perfect ergonomics. The remote control key has a built-in Bike Finder feature (flashes the turn indicators) and a seat compartment opening function, while the inside of the compartment in the leg shield back plate contains a USB socket for charging smartphones or other mobile devices.

All the Vespa accessories
As with every Vespa, Vespa Elettrica can also be customised and made into a unique piece, following the personality of the rider, thanks to a rich range of accessories: The dedicated top box, painted entirely in the same colour as the vehicle and enhanced by the chromed Vespa badge, can hold a full-face helmet. The top box can be finished with a backrest, covered in the same material as the seat. The chromium-plated base where the top box is mounted can also be used as a luggage rack.

Maximum protection is provided by a windshield made of high quality anti-splinter methacrylate, customised with the Vespa logo; the support brackets are made with a chrome finish in line with the other aesthetic details. Vespa Elettrica can also be fitted with a top fairing – available both transparent and smoked – that elegantly rounds off the front design of the vehicle.

The classic chromium front and rear luggage racks are also available for Vespa Elettrica. The front side and rear chrome mudguards elegantly finish the vehicle and protect the bodywork. A hand crafted black leather bag, 100% Made in Italy, which can accommodate a jet helmet with visor can be easily fastened to the rear luggage rack.

The accessories range also includes the special jet Tech helmet dedicated to Vespa Elettrica that combines style and maximum practicality with a built-in bluetooth headset so you can take full advantage of the VESPA MIA system. To go with the helmet, goggles are also available that stand out for the mirrored lenses derived from the world of skiing and other new finishes. The demi-jet Vespa VJ Special Edition Vespa Elettrica helmet is also available, customisable to match the colour of your vehicle.

By working in conjunction with TRACKER, Piaggio Group customers will benefit from the peace of mind that comes with its proven VHF technology. In combination with traditional security precautions, TRACKER contributes significantly to a robust defence against theft and ensures a greater chance of recovery should an owner become the victim of unscrupulous criminal activity. TRACKER’s unique smart technology allows a signal to be transmitted, received and tracked regardless of location.

Mark Knight, Country Manager of Piaggio Limited agent of Piaggio & C. S.p.A., said: “Following the increase in theft and violence involving powered two-wheelers in several UK cities, plus the increase in insurance costs, we have been looking at security products that offer greater peace of mind to motorcycle and scooter owners while helping to reduce insurance costs.

“Piaggio Group settled on TRACKER’s industry-leading product because of the unique technology it employs in its successful tracking and recovering of stolen vehicles. The choice of supplier was paramount for us and TRACKER provides the most up-to-date technology in the marketplace, along with excellent support from installation to customer satisfaction.

“We’re aiming to provide a product and service that reduces our customers’ insurance costs with Lexham, our insurance partner, while offering an additional layer of customer security protection.”

Greig Hilton, Managing Director at TRACKER, added: “Although analysis of our recovery data confirms that London and Greater London remain the hot spots for two-wheeler thieves, opportunist criminals can and do strike anywhere and everywhere across the UK. It’s essential that Vespa and Piaggio owners recognise the importance of good security measures, which will not only project their pride and joy but the financial and emotional loss that comes as a result of theft.

“Our award winning SVR solutions won’t stop a scooter from being stolen, but will significantly increase the chances of police quickly locating and returning that vehicle to the owner, before it’s dismantled and sold on for parts, or sold and shipped abroad. Unlike any other SVR devices, our unique VHF technology can’t be blocked by GPS/GSM signal jammers and crucially, it can locate vehicles hidden anywhere, from the back the of a van to an underground car park or shipping container. We are delighted to be partnering with Piaggio and Lexham. Together we are playing a vital role in helping police close the net on two-wheeler thieves.”

Tony Campbell, CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Association, said: “Following the announcement of the ‘MCIA Secured’ Motorcycle & Scooter Rating Scheme, it is great to see Piaggio reacting so quickly. The industry is very much aware of the constant threat of motorcycle & scooter theft, and the crime which is being committed using these products. The industry accepts it has a role to play in combating this crime as it not only affects the market, it causes harm to our riders and the manufacturers’ customers. With the rising costs of insurance and harm caused, the UK motorcycle industry along with the riders and authorities must now work together to reduce and eventually make bike theft a thing of the past. I congratulate Piaggio on this initiative which I am sure will not only contribute to reassuring their customers but will send out a clear message to criminals to keep their hands off.”

Vespa Go Undercover

A must for any scooter left outdoors, Vespa’s Genuine Outdoor Covers protect against the weather, dust and spray from passing vehicles, bird droppings, harmful UV rays, and unwanted attention, too.

The police and most major insurers advise using a cover whenever the scooter is parked, because this simple precaution prevents criminals identifying whether yours is a model on their ‘shopping list’ and provides another time-consuming obstacle for thieves.

Model-specific for a snug fit and maximum coverage, Vespa Genuine Outdoor Covers are 100% waterproof, to keep the weather out, and breathable, to prevent the build-up of condensation and moisture around the scooter.

The material is resistant to heat, cold and harmful UV rays, so will keep on protecting for seasons to come. A draw-cord at the base secures the cover, preventing flapping and billowing in windy conditions and helping to prevent it being lifted by opportunists.

They also feature reinforced cut-outs through which a chain or D-lock can be passed – a great visible deterrent for thieves and at the same time preventing the cover itself from being removed.

Shaped to allow for a windscreen and top box, they feature a clear window for the number plate. A reflective strip and Vespa logo help the scooter stand out to other road-users.

Genuine Vespa Scooter Covers are available for the GTS and GTS Super, retailing for £77-, and to fit the PX, Primavera and Sprint, at £67- (including VAT). For details on these and the complete range of Vespa official accessories visit www.fowlersparts.co.uk.

Vespa GTS 125 and 150 EURO 4

Piaggio Group motoring technology aims to create increasingly more advanced powerplants in terms of low fuel consumption and emissions. Armed with the most important engine and scooter research and development centre in Europe, and one of the best in the world, Piaggio has developed unique technologies and skills that contribute to the construction of engines today which are in line with the strictest standards in the world.

On Vespa GTS the new family of i-get engines arrives, available in 125 and 150 cc displacements with electronic fuel injection, four valve timing and liquid cooling. These are engines at the top of their respective categories in terms of performance and environmental friendliness.

And the new Piaggio patented Start & Stop system called RISS (Regulator Inverter Start & Stop System) makes its début on the Vespa. This system does away with the traditional starter motor, which is replaced by a brushless “direct mount” electrical unit, in other words, installed directly on the crankshaft. This provides several benefits: extremely quiet start-up, lighter weight and more reliability, less fuel consumption. The Piaggio Start & Stop automatically switches off the engine 3 to 7 seconds after the vehicle stops (depending on whether or not the engine has reached the correct operating temperature). A slight twist of the throttle instantly restarts the engine, in complete silence, given the absence of the traditional starter motor. If the side stand is lowered or if the tilt sensor is activated, the ECU bypasses the Start & Stop function, in other words, the engine switches off and does not restart automatically.

The new i-get powerplants are the result of a design philosophy that sets more advanced quality and reliability levels as its primary objectives. Every aspect of the design was aimed at optimising the efficiency of each individual part in order to contribute to maximising performance. In the initial testing phases alone more than one million kilometres were logged in the intense search for reliability. Each and every one of the components on the new engines, from the exhaust to the internal design of the gearbox cover, all the way to the air filter, has been designed to make the ride smoother, quieter and more comfortable, and to increase the life of the engine.

A large portion of the Piaggio technical work had to do with the maniacal attention to reducing friction through the introduction of bearings on every rotating part, in the timing and in the crank gear geometry, with the cylinder axis shifted to reduce losses due to friction on the piston. The mechanical noise of the new i-get engines is also extremely low thanks to a reduction in play and an optimisation of the materials and shapes.

There are many completely new parts on the family of i-get engines:

– thermodynamics (head, cylinder, piston, rocker timing with rollers); also, all of the parts in motion have been optimised to reduce weight and operating friction.

– the crankshaft, for a clear reduction in vibrations

– starter: no longer the classic gear drive starter motor, but now an electric “direct mount” type “brushless” motor on the crankshaft. The result is the total absence of friction in order to obtain a quiet, durable and reliable starter.

– cooling system, with radiator built into the engine: this reduced the overall weight of the vehicle and the warm-up times (thermal management), with clear benefits in terms of consumption and emissions.

– the gearbox cover, to reduce the noise even more.

– the latest generation double toothed belt to minimise passive losses, once again all to the advantage of consumption and emissions.

– the gearbox setting that improves rideability, performance and consumption.

– the air filter, which improves filtering action to reduce intake noise.

– new built-in engine electronic control unit with the S&S management part (Alternator, S&S Inverter, RISS), entirely developed by Piaggio.

The eighth-litre version is credited with power of 9 kW at 8,250 rpm, whereas the more powerful 150 cc puts out 11 kW at 8,250 rpm. These are numbers that translate into quick engines on the road, specifically designed and built bearing in mind the needs of the rider for daily use in city and metropolitan environments. These are riding conditions characterised by frequent starts and stops which require elasticity, quick acceleration and a smooth ride. These characteristics are ensured by excellent torque (11.1 Nm at 6,750 rpm for the 125 cc and 14 Nm at 6,500 rpm for the 150 cc) which provide Vespa GTS with excellent acceleration both from a stop and in motion.

The new engines also guarantee lengthy service and maintenance intervals. Fluids and filters are changed every 10,000 km and valve clearance only needs to be adjusted every 20,000 km.

Overall fuel consumption benefits from the optimisation of each and every component: mileage on the WMTC cycle reaches 42.4 km/l for the Vespa GTS 125 (41.1 km/l for the GTS 150).

The large Vespa style.

The Vespa GTS evolution has always followed the trend of tradition, maintaining that magical balance between tradition and modernism in the lines of the body, strictly in steelVespa GTS still maintains the distinctive traits that are so characteristic of the large body Vespa, but it also has numerous and important aesthetic updates.

Vespa GTS have a “tie” on the front shield with a modern design, front and rear turn indicators characterised by new clear plastics and a rear light assembly elegantly adorned by a chromium frame which recalls the finish of the crest on the front mudguard. The footboard central tunnel cover is enhanced by the Vespa logo.

Legendary comfort.

Its perfect ergonomics and natural seating have always contributed to making every Vespa comfortable, pleasant to ride and accessible to all. The saddle on the Vespa GTS provides superior comfort thanks to the specific padding and new coveringThe helmet compartment fully exploits the available space and is able to hold two demi-jet Vespa helmets and more. To further increase the cargo capacity of the Vespa GTS, there is a compartment in the leg shield back plate, ideal for keeping smaller objects handy such as glasses, documents and mobile phones, as well as the convenient bag hook on the upper part of the leg shield back plate. On Vespa GTS, you can also count on the convenient and solid support of the rear luggage rack.

Cutting-edge technology.

Now standard on all models in the Vespa GTS range are the remote control to open the saddle and Bike Finder, extremely convenient for finding your Vespa in a crowded car park by making the turn indicators flash.

The USB port is not missing, located in the leg shield back plate compartment, convenient for recharging any external device, while the front turn indicators contain a series of LEDs that act as daylight running lights. The trapezoid-shaped digital instrumentation is characterised by its compact size, but also by the extremely exhaustive information provided, it is made up of a classic speedometer and a small multi-functional digital area surrounded by six service indicator lights. The information provided includes the fuel level, time and two partial odometers.

The new Vespa GTS 125/150 is naturally compatible with the Vespa Multimedia Platform (VMP). When a Smartphone with one of the most common operating systems is connected to the on board electronic system VMP transforms it into a real and sophisticated computer which is capable of providing the rider with various information both on the condition of the vehicle and on the route travelled. This allows the rider to use the Smartphone’s touchscreen to keep constant tabs on all riding parameters and to handle both city traffic and longer trips in complete safety.

One of the many features provided by pairing your smartphone with your Vespa is the parked Vespa finder, certain to be popular with more distracted riders. In fact, the system automatically remembers the vehicle’s last position before the engine was switched off, thereby helping you find your Vespa if you forget where you left it. This can be quite convenient when parking, for example, in an unfamiliar city. You can also store all of your travel data in order to easily analyse your riding style through the numerous parameters acquired in real time during your trip.

New safety features.

The Piaggio Group was the first company in the world to introduce electronic systems on scooters which were once available only on the best motorcycles, such as ASR (available on the GTS 300 version) and ABS, which also equip the GTS 125 and 150. Each wheel has a revolution detection system – a sensor and a tone wheel – which instantly reads the speed and deceleration of the wheel with respect to that of the vehicle. The sensors dialogue with a 2-channel hydraulic control unit which activates the ABS system if one of the two wheels decelerates abruptly with respect to the vehicle, avoiding locking and ensuring stability and efficient braking even on road surfaces with a low friction coefficient.

Technology, the uniqueness of Vespa.

The new Vespa GTS/150 is conceived on the reliable, tried and true technical foundation of the previous series. The body, as has always been the case for Vespa from 1946 to the present, is made strictly in steel and provides incomparable sturdiness, in addition to safety features and truly unique dynamic performance. The result is a particularly brilliant ride both in city traffic and on country roads: a mix of thrilling handling and reassuring stability, partly to the credit of wide tyres mounted on 12 inch diameter rimsThe dual disc braking system ensures ever-ready decelerating power even in sport use, with modularity that puts even beginners at ease.

VESPA GTS ACCESSORIES.

As always in Vespa tradition, the new GTS has a wide range of accessories so you can personalise your vehicle and increase comfort and functionality.

Great attention to functionality and aesthetics.

The top box, large enough for a flip up helmet, is painted to match the body and fitted with a padded backrest to optimise passenger comfort.

The front and rear chromium plated luggage racks are some of the most popular accessories that strongly denote the personality and long standing Vespa traveller tradition.

And speaking of chromium plated accessories, let’s not forget the side kit which guarantees maximum protection for your Vespa and ensures a bold aesthetic personalisation.

On board protection is guaranteed by the windshield in impact resistant, chip resistant methacrylate and the high quality clear top fairing with its compact and sporty lines. The leg cover made of thermal material, easy to install, also guarantees riding comfort in any season of the year. The set of accessories is completed by the mechanical anti-theft systemthe electronic anti-theft system, the top box internal bag, the luggage rack straps, the genuine leather “Made in Italy” saddle and the elegant “Country & Leisure” plaid.

On board technology.

One of the most characteristic and highest technology accessories is the Vespa Multimedia Platform which allows the rider to place his or her smartphone in communication with the Vespa GTS.

Using a dedicated App the Smartphone can display all the vehicle status information (through the on board diagnostics), as well as riding and travel information. This means that VMP technology allows the rider to optimise vehicle use when riding in city and country traffic, enhancing the travel experience.

All Vespa brand accessories and style compliments are available online. In fact, at VESPA.COM, the point of reference for Vespa fans all over the world, the display windows of the Vespa Store are open, a web space that makes all of the Vespa lifestyle collections available to enthusiasts. At Vespa Store the vast range of garments, gift items and accessories, conceived and designed based on the most classic Vespa iconography, is available to anyone who wants to live in Vespa style, dress with informal elegance and surround themselves with high quality items that are reminiscent of timeless shapes.

New Vespa Colors Helmets for Summer

Available in four eye-catching shades – Nuclear Red, Grapes Blu, Apple Green and Sun Yellow – Vespa’s latest helmets add a vibrant splash of colour to summer rides.

Ideal for urban use, the classic jet design allows maximum peripheral vision and is also compact enough to fit inside most under-seat storage compartments, top boxes and side cases.

The ABS shell is tested and approved to the current ECE 22-05 safety standard and reflective edging helps the wearer to stand out in low light conditions.

Secured by a micro-adjustable seatbelt-style strap for a snug and secure fit, the Colors helmets all have a quick-release buckle, so there’s no fiddling around when a destination is reached.

A breathable, hypo-allergenic textile lining helps to keep the wearer comfortable and cool when hustling through busy streets. There are poppers for fitting Vespa’s Three Button Visor plus a goggle retaining strap, which is compatible with the Vespa Vintage Rider Goggles.

The new Vespa Colors Helmets are made in Italy, and each one is finished with a subtle tricolour Italian flag label and white Vespa logo. They come in sizes XS to XL and retail at £99.99.

The compatible Three-Button Visor sells for £27.49 and Vintage Rider Goggles cost £44.16.

Vespa Celebrates Seventy Years With “Vespa Happy Days” From 23rd To 31st May 2016

THE CELEBRATORY “VESPA SETTANTESIMO” SERIES MAKES ITS DÉBUT WITH A BIRTHDAY PRESENT TO BUYERS FROM VESPA.

Vespa is an extraordinary Italian icon that celebrates its 70th birthday from 23 to 31 May with the “Vespa Happy Days” showroom event that invites you to come and see its scooter range first hand. A line of ultra-modern, technological and ecological models, and all unmistakeably connected in terms of stylistic similarities to the first Vespa 98cc that launched a unique and inimitable heritage of worldwide success.

It was the 23rd April in 1946 when Vespa was patented. A short time later it appeared on Italian streets to then invade the rest of the world, bringing different generations and people together in a single passion. The first truly global mobility brand, known and loved all over the world, now celebrates its birthday with the launch of a new, luxurious celebratory series.

From 23rd April to 31st May, at Vespa Retailers across the UK, the new “Vespa Settantesimo” series makes its début. This is an exceptional Vespa collection, inseparably bound to the year of the seventieth anniversary and for this reason, destined to become the object of a cult following and a collector’s item. The quick and agile Vespa Primavera, the GTS flagship and the inimitable PX take on an exclusive colour scheme based on two new Azzurro 70 and Grigio 70 colours, special shades that draw from the best Vespa tradition.

The “Vespa Settantesimo” series is also made truly special by a range of luxurious personalisations that include a brand new and elegant dark brown saddle with the “Vespa Settantesimo” logo, dedicated graphics on the leg shield back plate, contrasting dark wheels and the classic chromium rear luggage rack that carries an elegant bag, colour coded to match the saddle, bearing the seventieth anniversary logo.

Buyers who order their Settantesimo Anniversary Vespa during the Happy Days event will also receive a complimentary colour matched helmet as a gift from Vespa, while Vespa retailers will be offering selected accessories at special anniversary prices.

New Vespa Fibre Helmets

Vespa has added three new open face helmets to its range, ready for summer.

Ideal for urban use, the new helmets feature a demi-jet design for all-round vision on busy streets, and are compact enough to fit in most under-seat storage compartments, top boxes and side cases. Unlike many traditional open-face ‘lids’, they also feature a retractable sun visor.

All three have a glass fibre shell, secured by a micro-adjustable seatbelt-style strap and fastener, with a quick-release system, so there’s no fiddling around when you arrive at your destination.

A breathable, textile lining helps keeps the wearer comfortable and cool when hustling through busy streets. It’s removable and washable, to keep it fresh and clean throughout the riding season.
