BMW Motorrad crowns its 100th anniversary with the strongest sales result

BMW Motorrad crowns its 100th anniversary with the strongest sales result in the company’s history.

In its anniversary year, BMW Motorrad delivered 209,257 motorcycles and scooters to customers, 3.1% more than in the previous year and the highest sales volume in the company’s history. The regions of Europe, Asia and Latin America in particular made a significant contribution to BMW Motorrad’s record sales volume with record sales figures. Germany and North America also contributed to the record result with strong sales. The convincing product portfolio with successful offerings that characterise their respective segments and the market launch of popular new models such as the
high-powered BMW M 1000 R or the touring enduro icon BMW R 1300 GS were strong arguments for the successful performance in 2023.

Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad: “I would like to thank our customers all over the world for the great trust they have placed in us again in 2023. With a record result in our anniversary year, BMW Motorrad remains the world’s number one in the premium motorcycle and scooter segment and once again demonstrates the brand’s successful strategic orientation. Our market leadership in numerous segments is based on innovation leadership, our highly attractive product range and our strong brand. Based on these three main success factors, BMW Motorrad is ideally positioned and I am very confident about the year 2024.”

Solid sales in Europe with record growth in Eastern Europe.
With 116,012 (+ 4.7 %) motorcycles and scooters sold, Europe as a whole remained by far the strongest sales region for BMW Motorrad. Germany remained the strongest individual market with 24,176 units (+ 0.2 %), followed by France (21,668 units / + 2.1 %), Italy (16,179 units / + 3.3 %) and Spain (12,716 units / + 1.7 %). Eastern Europe also contributed to BMW Motorrad’s very pleasing overall European performance with sales of 6,000 units, a record increase of 105.4 % and more than double the previous year’s figure.

China, India, Brazil and Mexico made a significant contribution to this success.
In other regions, several countries ended the year with record sales. In Asia (47,061 units / + 1.6 %), both China (15,832 units / + 2.8 %) and India (8,768 units / + 20.4 %) achieved their best results to date. Brazil, with record sales of 14,106 vehicles (+ 8.1 %), and Mexico (7,088 units / + 6.8 %) also made a significant contribution to BMW Motorrad’s record result.

The R 1250 GS and GS Adventure, along with the highly successful new R 1300 GS, lead the way.
The boxer models R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure also delivered their customary strong performance, with sales of around 56,000 units. Together with the new R 1300 GS (4,528 units), which has been on sale since autumn 2023, the three GS models once again made a significant contribution to BMW Motorrad’s record sales of 60,535 units (+1.62%).

Sporty four-cylinder models with undiminished dynamism.
The fascination with performance and riding dynamics also resulted in a positive sales trend for the sporty four-cylinder models from BMW Motorrad. With 11,442 units sold
(+ 13.9%), the S 1000 RR underlined its top position and market leadership in the supersport bike segment, while the M 1000 R hyper roadster exceeded all expectations with 3,655 units delivered to customers. Together with the S 1000 R, the S 1000 XR and the exclusive M 1000 RR, 25,194 units (+ 7.5 %) of the high-performance four-cylinder models were delivered to customers worldwide.

BMW Motorrad also achieved top performance in the mid-range segment and in the BMW Motorrad segment of up to 500 cc.
With a total of 62,834 units sold (+ 3.2 %), the F series with two-cylinder engines and the G models with single-cylinder engines also made a significant contribution to
BMW Motorrad’s record result. The F 750 GS, which is particularly popular with new customers, was a particular highlight, with 11,064 units sold (+ 15.6 %).

Clear market leadership for the CE 04 and strong performance of BMW Motorrad’s Urban Mobility range.
With a share of around 70 % in the global market for all-electric motorcycles and scooters with an output of more than 11 kW, the CE 04 has secured itself the undisputed market leadership. With 7,177 units delivered, the expressive electric scooter exceeded the previous year’s deliveries by 44 %. Supplemented by the two successful scooters
C 400 GT and C 400 X, the Urban Mobility segment of BMW Motorrad achieved a sales volume of 20,460 units, which corresponds to an increase of 17.9 % compared to the previous year.

Optimistic outlook for 2024.
Stephan Reiff, Head of Sales and Brand: “The sales record in our anniversary year is both an honour and an obligation. With numerous new, innovative models and products for our customers, we at BMW Motorrad will do everything in our power to build on this record year in 2024 and further consolidate our leading position in the premium segment. Our new GS models in particular will play an important role here. This year, our customers and fans can once again look forward to numerous world premieres, highlights, events and emotionally charged motorcycles offers.”

My first ever ‘proper’ motorcycle leather jacket was an RST jacket, when I was 17 years old, that I subsequently wore on every ride after purchase. I loved that jacket, and still do…

Motorcycle Highlights to See at The Grandes Marques du Monde à Paris’ Sale

Bonhams|Cars will present over 30 impressive motorcycles at the ‘Grandes Marques du Monde à Paris’ Sale on February 1, 2024. The sale marks the motorcycle department’s return to the Grand Palais Éphémère, located in the historic heart of Paris on the Champ-de-Mars, following last year’s highly successful sale of the Dr. Peter and Ulrike Bühner Collection – one of the most important private collections of pioneer motorcycles in Europe.

This year’s sale will also showcase a striking selection, featuring an array of Italian Grand Prix machines from the 1950s and 60s. Highlights include:

1958 Moto Morini 250cc Bialbero Grand Prix Racing Motorcycle estimated at €120,000 – €160,000

A 1958 Moto Morini 250cc Bialbero Grand Prix Racing Motorcycle, estimated at €120,000 – €160,000. Originally built in 1957, Moto Morini’s first effort in Grand Prix racing’s 250 class was based on the successful 175cc Rebello sports roadster and featured chain drive to twin overhead camshafts. This Morini Bialbero features a delightful patina – all too rare among former racers, most of which have been restored – and is in original condition.

1956 CM 250cc Production Racing Motorcycle estimated at €20,000 – €30,000

A 1956 CM 250cc Production Racing Motorcycle, estimated at €20,000 – €30,000. This ultra-rare Italian racing motorcycle is believed to have been ridden by Nello Pagani, Celeste Cavaciuti and Gianemilio Marchesani, the latter achieving two fifth places, one seventh and one third place in the Italian championship with it. With its current setup, complete with lights, this machine participated in the Milan-Taranto long-distance road race.

c.1950 Rota 500cc Racing Motorcycle estimated at €22,000 – €28,000

A c.1950 Rota 500cc Racing Motorcycle estimated at €22,000 – €28,000. One of the most obscure and rare and Italian motorcycle manufacturers, Moto Rota is said to have built no more than 15 machines. This unique 500cc machine includes unitary construction of the engine and gearbox, a telescopic front fork, and swinging-arm rear suspension.

1953 Mondial 125cc Bialbero Racing Motorcycle estimated at €50,000 – €70,000

A 1953 Mondial 125cc Bialbero Racing Motorcycle estimated at €50,000 – €70,000. Formerly part of the Enrico Bernardi Museum collection, this unusual Mondial bialbero has chain drive to the twin overhead camshafts rather than the customary shaft-and-bevels or train-of-gears arrangements. The machine has been restored by Oreste Daddario, a former owner and founder of the Mondial Owner’s Club.

1957 Parilla 250cc Bialbero Racing Motorcycle estimated at €40,000 – €60,000

A 1957 Parilla 250cc Bialbero Racing Motorcycle estimated at €40,000 – €60,000. Making its debut on 1st October 1946, the Parilla could claim to be Italy’s first new racing motorcycle since the war’s end. A 350 ‘double-knocker’ was introduced in 1950 and the bialbero Parillas gave a good account of themselves in the Italian long-distance races of the day as well as at Grand Prix level. Development of the single-cylinder 250 continued into the later 1950s. This restored Parilla 250 Bialbero was discovered in the USA and purchased there from its enthusiast owner.

The Bonhams Motorcycle Department are pleased to present another outstanding selection of motorcycles at the Le Grand Palais Éphémère especially given how rare and unusual it is to have such a wide selection of Italian grand prix motorcycles consigned. The sale follows hot on the heels of the Motorcycles Online – The January Sale, running from 12–22 January and will then be followed up by the forthcoming spring sale at The International Classic MotorCycle Show in Stafford on 20-21 April, one of the early headline lots for which is a genuine 1949 Vincent-HRD 998cc Black Lightning.

Metzeler ROADTEC 02: two tyres in one

Metzeler ROADTEC 02: two tyres in one thanks to the tread that adapts to the motorcyclist’s riding style.

The new Metzeler ROADTEC 02 tyre, now available to the public, introduces a new technology that allows you to benefit from the behaviour of two different tyres in a single tyre. The Adaptive Tread Design adapts the geometry of the grooves based on the motorcyclist’s riding style, thus varying the surface in contact with the asphalt and consequently the behaviour of the tyre, from Sport-Touring to Supersport. Almost a new category of tyre, the “Super-Sport Touring”, allows a much wider range of performance depending on the riding style.

When the motorcyclist has a touring riding style, or in wet conditions, the long grooves of the tread pattern favor the evacuation of water and the correct mobility of the tread compound, helping to offer quick warm-up, comfort and grip. In other words, the qualities and behaviour typical of a Sport-Touring tyre.

However, when a sportier riding style is preferred – in dry conditions, greater load transfers and lateral thrusts cause part of the grooves to close, thus increasing the compactness and stability of the tread band. This allows you to make the most of the grip qualities of the compound, improving riding precision and modifying its behaviour, to become close to that of a supersport tyre.

The front and rear tyres have been designed with the same tread pattern to ensure the same adaptive behaviour on both axles.

The tread pattern of the new ROADTEC 02 tyre, compared to its predecessor ROADTEC 01 SE, increases the full/empty land/sea ratio, thus increasing the footprint and making it more uniform as the lean angle varies, so as to guarantee a smoother and more precise ride. Furthermore, a smaller presence of grooves leads to fewer interruptions on the tread band, to the benefit of acoustic comfort (less road noise).

The rear tyres are dual-compound to combine stability at high speeds with grip when leaning also on wet surfaces, the latter also achieved thanks to the new generation of 100% silica-based compounds, both for the front and rear, which optimise the chemical grip on wet roads.

ROADTEC 02 will make its official debut at the MBE Motor Bike Expo, scheduled from 19 to 21 January in Verona, where the new tyre will be among the protagonists of the Metzeler exhibition area set up in booth 19 of pavilion 4.

Metzeler ROADTEC 02 tyres are available in the following sizes:

Royal Enfield Debuts The Shotgun 650

Royal Enfield debuts the Shotgun 650 a motorcycle inspired by custom, for custom.

After a spectacular debut of a very special limited edition motorcycle at Motoverse 2023 – the Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition – Royal Enfield today debuted the production version of the Shotgun 650. A stunning, one-of-its-kind custom inspired motorcycle, the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will be available in four unique colourways Stencil White, Plasma Blue, Green Drill and Sheetmetal Grey.

Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director & CEO of Eicher Motors Ltd., says “The Shotgun 650 is inspired by the work of our custom community and our years of work with them. It is a retro-futuristic interpretation of what a factory custom motorcycle with thoroughbred Royal Enfield DNA would look like. A shape-shifting machine that defies categorization, both in form and in spirit, the Shotgun 650 is something absolutely new and different. It is super fun to ride with confidence inspiring ride ergonomics and handles well in downtown city streets, through twisties and powers through straight highways. The Shotgun 650 is our attempt to bring niche and newer categories of motorcycles to growing enthusiasts of self-expression”.

Built on Royal Enfield’s globally proven 650-Twin platform, the Shotgun 650 is a tribute to the culture of customisation and a new chapter in design for Royal Enfield with an exciting vision of the future. With its retro-futuristic design the Shotgun 650 pays homage to its precursor, the SG650 Concept – showcased at EICMA 2021- and celebrates creativity, as a blank canvas for customization and personalisation for thousands of riders across the world.

Commenting about the ‘heart’ of the new motorcycle, its engine, B Govindarajan, CEO – Royal Enfield, says, “The Shotgun 650 is a very unique motorcycle within our portfolio, but at its heart is the same Royal Enfield pure motorcycling DNA. The 648cc parallel twin engine that powers this machine is a characterful and versatile platform that is capable of adapting to any kind of riding form and format. On the new mould-breaking Shotgun 650, this engine fuels an extremely engaging and joyful ride with power for real world usage, strong mid-ranges and with ample torque across the board. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed creating and riding the Shotgun 650, and are super happy to present this to the world of motorcycle expressionists”

In the true spirit of customization, the new Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is a motorcycle defined by its rider. Its all new bodywork and stance is a blank canvas, defying traditional categorisation of motorcycling and taking on a personality of its rider. Its modular design enables it to switch between three modes—from single seater to double seater to luggage-carrying tourer, with ease. With the twist of a key, the pillion seat pops off, offering ultimate flexibility. For those seeking an engaging and aggressive ride, or for those looking for a more chilled out experience, the Shotgun 650 effortlessly obliges with its upright and confident riding position that encourages both, and adapts to the rider’s mood and style of riding.

Speaking about the design and development journey of the Shotgun 650, Mark Wells, Chief of Design, said, “The story of Royal Enfield is one of customization. Our customers have been taking our motorcycles and personalising them for decades. Looking to that rich creative culture for inspiration, we unleashed our designers to ideate in that same spirit of unfettered imagination. The resulting design is both fresh and respectful of our heritage and a future vision of what a custom Royal Enfield could look like years down the road.”

With the globally award-winning 650 Twin platform at its core, the Shotgun 650 is loaded with a double barrel of fun. It is ergonomically optimised, with mid-set foot position, a low 795mm seat height and an intuitive handlebar position that give the rider a commanding sense of presence and control, while the floating single seat is both retro and modern at the same time. The Shotgun’s specially tuned suspension with 43mm dia. separate function big piston Showa forks on the front, twin tube 5-step preload adjust RSU at the back, 1465mm wheelbase and a low centre of gravity come together to make riding in traffic, on highways and down twisty back roads equally fun, without compromising on comfort. Wide 18” front and 17” rear tubeless tyres, combined with 320mm and 300mm disc brakes, ensure a steady grip, keeping you engaged and in control at all speeds.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 blends retro-futuristic design with modern features. An LED headlamp fitted in a gorgeous custom, neo-modern nacelle stays true to the neo-retro fusion aesthetic while offering improved visibility. The motorcycle has a digi-analogue instrument cluster, which comes equipped with the Tripper navigation system and is designed to deliver all the information you need as you head out. It also features a USB charging port to keep your devices charged on the go.

Continuing the concept of customization and personalization, a diverse range of 31 Genuine Motorcycle Accessories for the Shotgun 650, have been designed to further highlight the custom aesthetic, bar end mirrors, a sculpted solo seat and contrast-cut billet rims are available.

Top motocross brands choose Dunlop Geomax MX34 as standard fitment

Dunlop’s next-generation soft-mid MX tire, the Geomax MX34, has been selected by three prominent motocross manufacturers as the standard original equipment tire on their factory edition bikes. Following their selection of Geomax MX33 last year, the latest Geomax range has been chosen by KTM, GasGas and Husqvarna, solidifying Dunlop’s continued partnership with manufacturers competing at the highest level of motocross competition.

Geomax MX34 has been fitted on the KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition, the GasGas MC 450F Factory Edition, and Husqvarna FC 450 Rockstar Edition, which share the same chassis design and unmissable team graphics as the bikes used by their respective factory race teams in the fiercely competitive AMA Supercross Championship, which got underway earlier this month.

The factory edition bikes have been enhanced with new refinements and game-changing technologies compared to their predecessors, aiming to elevate performance to an even higher level and bring riders as close to the pro level as possible, all the while supported by Dunlop’s championship-winning tire.

Dunlop Geomax MX34 ensures improved cornering performance and front and rear slide control versus Geomax MX33, providing the straight-line stability and corner control that is crucial for riders to perform at their best in the Supercross competition. The new rear pattern allows riders to accelerate confidently on soft, mud and intermediate tracks, contributing to race-winning lap times. Adding to that is the next-generation Progressive Cornering Block Technology (PCBT), which facilitates superior absorption and improved ground contact for optimal traction and performance.

Miguel Morais, Original Equipment Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle EMEA: “We are thrilled that the Geomax MX34 tire has been chosen as the original fitment for factory edition bikes from three top manufacturers: KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas. We are delighted to offer riders and teams a tire that provides stability and confidence across a range of conditions, empowering them to give their all on the track throughout 2024.”

The majority of the riders competing in the 2024 AMA Supercross Championship have chosen the Dunlop Geomax range, continuing to confirm Dunlop as the preferred tire option among the best riders. Meanwhile, Dunlop is looking to continue the streak of winning every AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross title since 2010 in the new season.

As the FIM Motocross World Championship, starting in Argentina on 10th March, approaches, anticipation builds for the Geomax MX34 to continue its strong performance on the global motocross stage.

Triumph Reveals New Daytona 660

Triumph has revealed an all-new triple powered middleweight sports bike for 2024. The Daytona 660 delivers thrilling sports performance, a dynamic ride and the highest quality, capability and specification in its class.

Featuring a significant evolution of Triumph’s distinctive and unique 660cc triple engine, now with 95PS peak power and 69Nm of peak torque, the Daytona 660 provides a smooth, responsive and linear delivery with the perfect combination of low-down torque, mid-range and top-end power. As well as delivering 17% more power and 9% more torque than the Trident, the Daytona 660 also has a brand-new exhaust, creating an unmistakeable sports soundtrack.

The Daytona 660’s perfectly balanced chassis and intuitive, agile sports handling is combined with all-day riding comfort, thanks to high specification equipment including Showa upside down big piston 41mm forks and Showa preload adjustable monoshock RSU.  The radial four piston brakes with twin 310mm discs and braided brake lines are paired with Michelin’s new Power 6 tyres.

Combined with an 810mm seat height, narrow stand-over and optimised bar and footpeg position, the Daytona 660 delivers an exciting and confidence-inspiring ride.

Ensuring riders always feel in complete control, the Daytona 660 is equipped with rider-focused technology including three riding modes (Sport, Road and Rain) which optimise throttle response and traction control settings for the conditions, plus there’s a new Emergency Deceleration Warning system that activates the hazard lights to alert other road users during heavy braking.

The unmistakeable Daytona design DNA has been reimagined with fresh attitude for an aggressive new stance and clean lines. Distinctive twin LED headlights incorporate a central air intake and the minimal bodywork emphasises the athletic profile, ending in a contoured LED tail light. There are three striking colour options available, all featuring a bold ‘660’ race-inspired graphic.

As Triumph customers would expect, the Daytona has more than 30 Genuine Triumph Accessories to tailor performance, comfort, style and practicality, including an A2 licence kit, with a dedicated throttle twist grip and an engine tune that limits power to 35kW.

A 10,000-mile service interval, two-year unlimited mileage warranty and Triumph’s strong residual values contribute to securing a competitive cost of ownership, the lowest in the class.

Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer said: “The 660 has all the attitude and agility you’d expect from the Daytona name, and brings with it the thrilling, useable, real world performance and all-day comfort that riders today are looking for. We are excited by the impact the Daytona 660 is going to have on the growing middleweight sports world.”

THRILLING SPORTS PERFORMANCE
The perfect combination of low-down torque, thrilling top-end and unrivalled character, the Daytona’s triple delivers 95PS at 11,250rpm with a hair-raising 12,650rpm redline. More than 80 percent of its 69Nm of peak torque is available from just 3,125rpm delivering responsive  sporty and fully usable performance. By blending low-down torque and the tractability of a twin with the free-revving top end performance of an inline four, the engine has a unique triple soundtrack, further enhanced by the new exhaust which features 3 into 1 headers and a compact underslung silencer with stainless steel finisher.

Power is delivered effortlessly through a slick six-speed gearbox and Triumph’s Torque Assist clutch ensures a progressive, light lever action with a span optimised clutch lever for better reach. The clutch design also improves rear wheel control under hard deceleration for smooth, confident corner entry. Triumph’s Shift Assist is available as an accessory fit for fast and effortless clutch-less up and down shifts and even easier riding in town.

For riders starting their Daytona ride with an A2 licence, an accessory fit conversion kit enables compliance with a replacement throttle grip and unique engine tune, that can be easily fitted, or reverted to standard, by a Triumph dealer.

AGILE, DYNAMIC RIDE
The new Daytona 660 benefits from years of race-winning chassis development, and with its lightweight sports frame, top quality Showa 41mm upside down, big-piston front forks and a Showa rear suspension unit, it delivers an easy and agile ride. The rear suspension also features remote preload adjustment for quick set-up alterations.

Lightweight five-spoked cast aluminium wheels keep rotating mass low for even more responsive handling and enhanced suspension performance and Michelin’s new high-specification Power 6 tyres are fitted as standard to deliver confident road handling in wet and dry conditions. With twin four-piston radial calipers paired to lightweight 310mm discs and fed by braided lines, plus a Continental ABS modulator, the Daytona 660 has excellent stopping power and braking feel too.

RIDER-FOCUSED TECHNOLOGY
The Daytona 660 features technology that enhances the riding experience and safety.

The ride-by-wire throttle delivers a crisp and precise throttle response and also allows for three riding modes; Sport, Road and Rain. Each mode offers a different throttle response and level of traction control intervention, with Sport mode providing the most reactive throttle response for full-on road rides or track sessions. The traction control system can also be turned off using the instrument menu for riders who prefer complete freedom from electronic intervention.

The multi-functional instruments feature a colour TFT screen integrated into a white-on-black LCD display. Compact, and with an uncluttered design, all the rider information is clearly displayed and is easy to read in different light conditions. This neat unit is compatible with the accessory fit My Triumph Connectivity System that enables turn-by-turn navigation plus phone and music interaction. All functions are clearly displayed on the TFT screen and controlled via the switchgear for ease of use while riding.

CONTROL & COMFORT
With racy clip-on bars positioned above the top yoke and pegs placed for the optimum balance of comfort and cornering clearance, the Daytona 660’s natural riding position is perfectly judged to give the feedback needed for dynamic sports riding with space and comfort necessary for long days in the saddle. At lower speeds, the Daytona’s perfectly-weighted controls and light steering give superb control in urban environments.

Split rider and pillion seats, with a rider seat height of 810mm and a narrow stand-over make the Daytona 660 manageable for riders of all sizes, and an accessory low seat is also available, lowering the seat height by 25mm to just 785mm.

MAKE THE DAYTONA 660 YOUR OWN
There are over 30 Genuine Triumph Accessories available, all engineered alongside the motorcycle, tested to the same high standards, and carrying the same two-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Riders looking for an even more distinctive race paddock style can choose a colour-coded seat cowl as well as a range of beautifully engineered billet-machined parts including an oil filler cap, pre-drilled for lock-wiring, paddock stand bobbins, bar end finishers and a rear brake reservoir.

The My Triumph Connectivity System allows easy and intuitive phone and music operation plus turn-by-turn navigation and is available as an accessory on the Daytona 660. Triumph Shift Assist can also be added, providing clutch-less, full-throttle upshifting and seamless downshifting with auto-blip.

Other additions include heated grips, an under-seat USB socket and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). A tank bag and tail pack are also available, adding 20 litres of stylish carrying capacity.

New security accessories, subject to availability by market, include the Triumph Protect+ alarm system, and Triumph Track+ tracker with 24/7 monitoring as well as comprehensive range of locks.

ON THE ROAD
The Daytona 660 will start from £8,595 OTR. Customers can find out more

NEW – ‘Bike Club’ with Carl Fogarty MBE

SEVEN times motorcycle racing world champion and TV’s ‘King of the Jungle’ Carl ‘Foggy’ Fogarty MBE is the star of new docu-reality series Bike Club.

Series one of the show streams exclusively on new freemium platform MeeTV in the New Year – with the pilot episode out now, and one new episode of Bike Club streaming every week.

In the 13-part series, with bite-sized episodes lasting 10-15-minutes each, the iconic British motorcycle racer and his wife Michaela open the door to their family home in Blackburn, Lancashire.

Thanks to the show, for the first time ever, Britain’s 1.3 million registered motorbikers can get a unique retrospective insight into the UK’s dynamic motorcycle culture.

Pictured: Carl ‘Foggy’ Fogarty MBE and his wife Michaela are the stars of MeeTV’s brand new series, Bike Club

‘Foggy’ is one of the most successful and loved motorbike racers of all time and a national sporting treasure. Following a turbo-charged career in the 1990s which saw him win 59 races in 12 seasons and carve himself a seat at motorsport’s top table, he went on to win ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ in 2014 and become a household name.

Bike Club spotlights key members of the biking fraternity, including Mark Wilsmore, owner of the world-famous Ace Café in North West London, a transport café since 1938 and an iconic hangout for bikers, rockers and petrolheads. Also in the series, Brazilian pro rider Sabrina Paiuta attempts to get her European race licence and clocks up death-defying speeds on the Brands Hatch motor racing circuit in Kent.

Left, film-maker Mat E Smith, founder & CEO of MeeTV, with ‘Foggy’ and his wife Michaela at their Lancashire home

The show is one of the first productions by MeeTV, a new and free indie streaming platform showcasing emerging and curated talent.

“Bike Club lifts the lid on the UK’s coolest counterculture without relying on the posing and posturing usually associated with the scene,” said film-maker Mat E Smith. “While I travel the UK under the premise of fixing up my own bike, biking royalty Carl and for the first time on-screen, his wife Michaela, share what life is like after surviving one of the most dangerous sports in the world.”

The first series of Bike Club sees ‘Foggy’ sharing his prized motorbike collection, which includes a fun three wheeled tuk-tuk and his first ever motorcycle given for his 10th birthday that was recently restored by the British Motorcycle Museum; as well as him taking to the beer pumps at his local pub pulling a pint of his own locally made ‘Foggy Gold’ ale. In one of the episodes, ‘Foggy’ fondly recounts how he was brought up around motorbikes thanks to his dad George, who’s now in his eighties, and road raced at the Isle of Man TT in the 1970s.

Foggy’s wife Michaela confessed: “I wasn’t sure about opening up our lives at first but this is exactly how our lives are and I’m really proud of that,” with Carl adding: “The result of Bike Club is that you see me and Michaela as we are with each other every day – bickering and bantering. Welcome to the mad world of the ‘Foggy’ household!”

Pictured: Bike Club film-maker Mat E Smith interviewing Mark Wilsmore, owner of the legendary Ace Café in North West London

Mark Wilsmore, who turned the Ace Café into a British icon, said: “The world of the combustion engine is today at a crossroads and in a hundred years people will look back at Bike Club and the Ace Café and they will recognise the problems and the community, it will still exist. They will know us, the conversations at The Ace, the laughter in garages, workshops, and at the roadside, the shared experiences of riders from all walks of life. Mat has captured the stories, camaraderie and the soul of motorcycling today. He wants everyone to know who’s behind the helmet and jacket, shining a light on the excitement that keeps us together, unveiling and celebrating the bonds that unite our diverse community.”

MeeTV founder & CEO Mat E Smith’s approach to film-making produces a uniquely intimate and light-hearted view of the British motorcycle scene.

“Carl and Michaela are usually very private people so when MeeTV asked about filming them, we all had to sit down and think about it,” said Neil Bramwell, Foggy’s manager. “Mat captures them perfectly as a couple and shows how they are together and you can see the same with everyone in the series. Capturing people and life today as a document for tomorrow is very clever and the mundane of a normal day is made up of lovely moments. If Mat stopped filming and staged all his shots like most production companies do, he wouldn’t get the light in everyone’s life that makes us all want to get out of bed every day.”

MeeTV’s Bike Club takes a unique retrospective look at the UK’s dynamic motorcycle culture

MeeTV showcases high-quality, user-generated content at no cost to viewers or creators.

The independent streaming platform has an impressive library of original films and productions where uniqueness and individuality are celebrated, and creators are encouraged to “think outside the box”.

MeeTV prioritises quality over quantity, selecting content through rigorous content moderation to ensure a safe and respectful online experience. It also has innovative features to foster direct engagement and collaboration between viewers and content producers.

Other shows now streaming on MeeTV include World’s Forgotten Temples with Paulo Bonini, who’s known as ‘Mr B’.  ‘Mr B’ is a Londoner and an English-speaking presenter for Cambodia’s biggest news outlet, The Khmer Times, and this real-life explorer is filmed as he goes in search of abandoned ancient temples hidden across Southeast Asia.

The Verge TS Ultra is the world’s first motorcycle with the sense of sight

Verge Motorcycles: “The Verge TS Ultra is the world’s first motorcycle with the sense of sight”

Verge Motorcycles has upgraded its flagship model with both hardware and software that make motorcycling safer than before. All Verge TS Ultra motorcycles now feature cameras and radars that use artificial intelligence and machine learning. New displays guarantee the rider a clear and informative overall view.

Electric superbike manufacturer Verge Motorcycles has announced that it has updated the hardware and software of its flagship TS Ultra model. The motorcycle now has six cameras and high-resolution front and rear radars. The upgraded Verge TS Ultra replaces the previous version, and customers who have already placed an order will automatically receive their bike with the new features.

In November, the company unveiled its Starmatter software and intelligence platform with four different elements: automatic over-the-air updates (OTA), sensor technology, artificial intelligence and a Human-Machine-Interface (HMI). This package has now been completed with the advanced machine vision announced today, Starmatter Vision. With new functionalities, Verge is the first motorcycle manufacturer in the world to bring these advanced safety features to motorcycling. Besides the standard features, such as traction control and ABS brakes, Verge’s bikes have a low centre of gravity, which enhances the control of the bike making the riding experience safer.

“Verge is making riding even smarter and safer, for example by improving the rider’s ability to observe the environment and the functions of the bike with the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The TS Ultra’s new cameras combined with the software update announced today make it the world’s first motorcycle equipped with the sense of sight, advising the rider and acting as a ‘whisperer’ while riding,” describes Verge CTO Marko Lehtimäki.

Autonomous driving has been a feature in the automotive industry for years already, but in motorcycling it is not a realistic or achievable goal in the same way. Riding a two-wheeler also comes with various restrictions and practical challenges that can cause safety risks. In addition, the helmet reduces visibility and dampens the sounds of the surrounding traffic. Verge believes that the solution can be found in technology and wants to promote not only riding comfort but also safety by utilising new innovations. With the updated hardware and software, the bike analyses the environment and notifies the rider, for example, of a vehicle approaching from behind or if it changes lane.

Renewed display technology revolutionises the way the rider interacts with the bike
The Verge TS Ultra now also features updated displays. The display on top of the tank is larger than before, which makes it easier to use. The new Starmatter Dash display and user interface that was unveiled today revolutionises the way the rider interacts with the bike. The new dash makes managing essential functions easier and more intuitive, it informs and warns of potential hazards, and it displays the image from the rear view camera when the rider uses the turn signal, for example.

“Verge is developing the world’s most advanced electric superbikes that focus on the riding experience. We do not want to compromise on that. Starmatter Dash provides a visual and intuitive interface, which gives the rider a clear real-time view of the bike’s features and status at a glance,” says Mark Laukkanen, VP of User Experience at Verge Motorcycles.

Renewed Verge TS Ultra and Starmatter Vision can be seen for the first time at CES in Las Vegas January 9–12, 2024.

Suzuki announces GSX-S1000GX+

Suzuki has announced a GSX-S1000GX+, a pannier-equipped version of its new-for-2024 GSX-S1000GX which comes with an OTR price of £15,599, just £1,100 over the GSX-S1000GX.

For customers looking for the added carrying capacity the GX+ offers, it represents a saving of £175 over the individual cost of the panniers and fitting. Moreover, including the genuine accessory panniers as part of the standard specification and price means even better value for customers buying on finance, too.

Two colour-coded, 36-litre panniers provide plenty of storage space, with each pannier capable of accepting a full-face helmet.

The panniers represent additional practicality for a machine built with all-day distance and riding comfort in mind. Topping the spec sheet is semi-active suspension from Showa, which has an automatic rear preload setting or three selectable options for solo riding, a rider and pillion, or rider and luggage. Riders can also select from soft, medium, and hard damping settings.

Cruise control features alongside seven traction control settings, encompassed within which is a roll torque control that uses a six-axis IMU to govern available power output when the bike is at lean. The IMU from Bosch also enables cornering ABS. There are three selectable power modes, and a bi-directional quickshifter.

All the information for which is displayed on a 6.5” colour TFT screen, with smartphone connectivity via the free Suzuki mySPIN app.

152PS and 106Nm of torque are provided by Suzuki’s revered, superbike-derived, 999cc inline four-cylinder engine, which is housed in a twin-spar aluminium frame.

Restored + Exclusive 60th Anniversary Bonus Film Featuring Rita Tushingham & The Leather Boys back at the Ace.

2024 is the 60th anniversary of the release in 1964 of the film “The Leather Boys” and, though it’s been a long time coming, it is now back in stock to include with exclusive bonus film featuring Rita Tushingham and The Leather Boys Back at the Ace.

The cafe played a leading role in this Sidney J. Furie film, which stars Rita Tushingham, Colin Campbell & Dudley Sutton, utilising many of the cafe’s patrons as film ‘extras’.

Shooting numerous scenes at the Ace Cafe, Furie, eager to achieve realism, took advice from the local riders. “You’d never find an Ace boy wearing them jeans” he was told one morning.

Furie’s direction, coupled with strong performances combine to make “The Leather Boys” one of the great British films of the sixties.
