Ducati 2015 World Première

A live streaming feed provided the perfect platform for the Ducati 2015 World Première event, a presentation of the latest bikes in the 2015 range held in Milan on the eve of EICMA 2014. New products, innovative technology and ambitious plans for the future have made Ducati more upbeat and confident than ever. The new range features true ‘dream bikes’, the offspring of Ducati’s renowned engineering brilliance and creativity, ready to thrill the fans who’ll be flocking to the 72nd edition of the EICMA World Motorcycle Fair at the International Milan Trade Fair in Rho, open to the public from 6 to 9 November.

The press conference provided Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, with a perfect opportunity to take stock of both the market and Ducati, and unveil the soon-to-be-released bike range. Despite the difficulties of the complicated, challenging international scenario, 2014 saw Ducati – a part of the Audi Group since 2012 – continue the positive growth trend of the last few years.

The new 2015 bikes clearly demonstrate the application of excellence across the entire Ducati range, an excellence characterised by unique, inimitable Italian style and design that is sure to win acclaim on emerging markets too.

For Ducati, 2015 is a milestone”, stated Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding during the presentation press conference, “as Ducati enthusiasts will be able to choose from a range more technologically advanced and innovatively designed than ever. A sports bike, the 1299 Panigale, that promises to set a whole new on-track standard thanks to raw power and sophisticated electronics, and a new all-round Multistrada 1200 that combines sports handling and performance with smoothness and low fuel consumption at a whole new level. With ‘The Land of Joy’, the Scrambler brand will be providing dealerships with a breath of fresh air and high spirits, offering a bike with a never-before-seen mix of motorcycling modernity and heritage”.

Following the launch of the Ducati Scrambler last month at Intermot, this new Ducati brand and its four innovative, high-appeal versions provided the perfect curtain-raiser at the Elfo Puccini Theatre in Milan, the venue for the Ducati 2015 World Première of the new 2015 models. Afterwards it was the turn of two completely new bikes soon to be presented at EICMA 2014, the 1299 Panigale and new Multistrada 1200, plus three other new versions (Panigale RDiavel Titanium and Monster Stripes) and an array of new accessory and apparel products.

The 2015 Ducati Superbike family presents a major new player in the category: the 1299 Panigale. The latest arrival at the Bologna-based firm, with its 1285 cm3 Superquadro engine, raises the standards once again in terms of performance for supersports bikes on the international market. Thanks to an incredible torque of 144.6 Nm at 8,750 rpm, a dry weight of 166.5 kg, a maximum power of 205 hp at 10,500 rpm and a record-breaking power-to-weight ratio that puts its ahead of all competing road bikes, the 1299 Panigale is now the new benchmark for ultra-high performance bikes.

The new electronic package, specifically designed for the 1299 Panigale and incorporated in the three different Riding Modes, boosts performance even higher. Thanks to the presence of the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), riders can count on Cornering ABS, along with Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and, on the S version, the Öhlins Smart EC, an event-based suspension control system. Moreover, the 1299 Panigale features, for the first time on a road-legal Ducati Superbike, the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS), now usable for down-changing too: this sharpens track performance even further while making the bike easier to use on a daily basis. On the 1299 Panigale, Ducati Traction Control (DTC)Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Engine Brake Control (EBC) are all optimised thanks to an automatic tyre size and final drive ratio calibration system.

It’s also a World Première for the new generation of Multistrada 1200 bikes, featuring the latest Ducati Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine. In what is a first for the motorcycle industry, the DVT engine features a variable valve timing system with independent control of both the intake and exhaust camshafts. This optimises engine performance throughout the power range in all riding conditions, ensuring maximum power at high revs, smooth power delivery, punchy low-rpm torque and low fuel consumption in full compliance with the latest Euro 4 regulations.

Completely new, the Multistrada 1200 is technologically cutting-edge thanks also to the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) which dynamically measures roll, yaw and pitch angles as well as their rates of change, thus ensuring performance and safety standards that are unprecedented on a motorcycle. The presence of the IMU leads to substantial improvements in the operation of the ABS system, making it a ‘Cornering’ system capable of controlling braking even on bends where wheel lock could otherwise cause skidding with the bike leaned-over. The IMU platform also enables control of the Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL) housed in the Multistrada 1200’s full LED headlamp, a system in which an additional LED illuminates the inside of the bend to enhance night-time visibility. Moreover, the IMU allows the introduction of Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC): this detects and corrects any front wheel lift to ensure maximum acceleration and grip in complete safety.

All models now feature Electronic Cruise Control, which the rider can set as desired using controls incorporated in the switchgear on the left handlebar. On the S version a Bluetooth module is included as standard: via the Ducati Multimedia System, this allows the bike to be connected to a smartphone for easy multimedia control of key functions (e.g. receiving incoming calls, notification of text messages, or playing music) via the handlebar controls and colour TFT dashboard. Thanks to an iOS/Android app, the Bluetooth connection lets riders use bike data to activate other functions which enhance, extend or let them share their everyday riding or touring experiences via interaction with the ducati.com website and social networks.

For 2015, Ducati also wanted to take the exclusiveness concept that forms the backbone of the Diavel project and raise it to a whole new level. Titanium, carbon, craftsmanship, finishing touches of outstanding quality, a near-manic attention to detail, dedicated design, a limited edition of just 500 bikes: these are the core features of the latest addition to the Diavel family, the Diavel Titanium.

The Ducati 2015 World Première also saw an appearance by the two official MotoGP 2015 flag bearers, Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone, just ahead of their last race of the MotoGP 2014 season in Valencia on Sunday 9 November. After achieving pole position in Japan, taking numerous podium places and significantly cutting end-of-race gaps, the 2014 season can be seen as a highly positive one that augers well for 2015. In the coming year the team, headed by Luigi Dall’Igna, will be competing in MotoGP – a championship that remains central to Ducati’s strategy – with an all-new bike that is the result of this season’s incessant work and investment.

In addition to the new bikes presented by Ducati, 2015 also promises a host of new accessories, special parts and a new apparel collection, which includes both high-grade technical clothing items and the eye-catching apparel and accessory collection dedicated to the Scrambler world; the latter was presented at the W.P. Store showroom in Milan with a special event that saw press, public and enthusiasts flock to the highly original, fun-packed Scrambler Ducati “Land of Joy”.

A New Era For Yamaha – 2015 EICMA

The last year has been an extremely exciting time for Yamaha, with the successful launch of many new models such as the MT-09, MT-07, and MT- 125, as well as the outstanding second generation YZF-R125 and the 3-wheel Tricity.

These new-for-2014 models have struck a chord with riders all over Europe, and their outstanding sales success – together with a strong performance in many national ‘machine of the year’ awards – further reinforces Yamaha’s commitment to developing models that add a new and exciting dimension to the world of motorcycling.

Since 2014, Yamaha Motor Group has been united under a new brand slogan Revs Your Heart that embodies our desire to create motorcycles and scooters that exceed expectations on many levels. If 2014 was the year that Yamaha came back, then 2015 is the year that Yamaha is going to show the way ahead, and the company has chosen the prestigious EICMA show in Milan to introduce one of the most eagerly awaited models for many years.

Developed using the most advanced engine, chassis and electronic control technologies derived from the M1, the all-new YZF-R1 is much more than a high performance motorcycle. It is a statement of intent that shows the world that Yamaha is once again ready to challenge the future and take the lead.

2015 Motorcycles

All-new YZF-R1

The name remains the same, but everything else has changed on this next generation superbike. Powered by a 200PS inline 998cc 4-cylinder crossplane engine developed using M1-derived technology, the all-new YZF-R1 is a track-focused motorcycle that has been created without restriction or compromise.

Its short wheelbase Deltabox aluminium/magnesium chassis features cast magnesium wheels and sophisticated suspension systems for the ultimate track performance, while the all-new bodywork – available in Race Blu and Vivid Red – features ‘hidden’ LED headlights and a central air intake that underline the bike’s race-bred M1 DNA.

Most significantly, the next generation R1 is equipped with YZR-M1 derived advanced electronic control technology that enables the racer or track rider to realize their true potential. With its 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the rider gets controllability over traction, slides, front wheel lift, braking and launches, allowing them to take their track performance to the next level.

Special Edition YZF-R1M

Manufactured in limited quantities and available only through distributors, the track-only Special Edition YZF-R1M features lightweight carbon bodywork finished in Silver Blu Carbon, and offers an even higher level of equipment than the R1. Its Communication Control Unit with GPS enables riders and teams to analyse lap times and other running data on an Android-based tablet – and the R1M’s Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) delivers ultimate handling.

MT-09 Tracer

For 2015 Yamaha introduce the much-anticipated MT-09 Tracer, an action tourer equipped with a sharp looking cowling as well as a larger fuel tank and luggage fittings on the rear frame. Featuring an adjustable riding position and

equipped with ABS, the Tracer combines strong triple cylinder performance with serious long distance potential. Available in Lava Red, Matt Grey and Race Blu, this long-range version of the MT-09 adds another dimension to the MT family, which – in just 12 months – has established a reputation for excitement, value and versatility.

YZF-R3

Announced on October 16th, the YZF-R3 will be on public display for the first time at EICMA. Aimed at newer riders as well as those who are trading up from a 125cc model, this compact and agile supersport model fits perfectly into the range between the YZF-R125 and the YZF-R6, and offers A2 licence holders the chance to experience R-series style and technology.

Its powerful new 320cc twin cylinder engine and lightweight chassis benefit from the most advanced technology in the class. With an aggressive dual headlight fairing as well as 10-spoke cast wheels – and offered in Race Blu and Midnight Black – this bike has pure R-series DNA.

WR250F

Launched for the 2014 model year, the YZ250F has proved to be one of the most competitive bikes in the 250cc 4-stroke MX category, with major wins in the USA, Europe and Australia. EICMA sees the first public viewing of the new WR250F enduro that has been developed using the winning YZ250F as the starting point.

Front and rear suspension settings have been revised to suit enduro use, and the WR250F is equipped with a new 6-speed gearbox and durable clutch – as well as a new ECU and electric start. With its innovative ‘reverse’ engine layout and ultra-compact Competition Blue bodywork, this high-tech enduro model delivers winning engine performance with outstanding agility.

YARD BUILT

Yamaha’s Yard Built platform prepares to wrap up a hugely successful year of collaborations with the world’s coolest custom bike builders by revealing three stunning new concepts at the EICMA show.

Paying tribute to the iconic Yamaha racers of the seventies, the Yard Built XV950 ‘Boltage’ is a Café Racer dream. Inspired by their previous ‘Jericho’ creation, a beautiful custom based on a 1983 Yamaha TR1 and reminiscent of the TZ750 Yamaha Racers of the past.

The Yard Built KEDO SR400 ‘Stallion’ traces its pedigree back to the super slick seventies, inspired by an era where superstars like Steve McQueen became heroes, playing it fast and loose.

Pulling up alongside the ‘Stallion’ and shouting for attention comes KEDO’s second Yard Built SR400, developed at the same time – the ‘Bronco’. The ‘Bronco’ gets a tougher look, sitting up on 18inch tracker tyres and also sporting several KEDO parts.

2015 Scooters

Strongest and most diverse range ever

Yamaha enter 2015 with one of the strongest and most diverse scooter ranges in the company’s history, with a total of more than 20 models covering the Sport, New Mobility, Urban, 50cc and Electric segments.

Our flagship TMAX model – once again Europe’s best selling maxi scooter – benefits from a series of important stylistic and technical improvements for the new year. For 2015 Yamaha will launch two new versions of this iconic sport model, both of them equipped with a totally redesigned front end that includes an all-new cowling, as well as – for the first time on a Yamaha scooter – upside down front forks and a refined keyless system. The standard TMAX together with the special edition IRON MAX will be revealed at EICMA.

In the Sport category Yamaha have once again been working closely with Italian specialists MOMODesign to create the new X-MAX 250 MOMODESIGN and X-MAX 125 MOMODESIGN. With their unique fusion of European premium finishing and Japanese technology, these fashionable supermodels bring a touch of design and glamour to everyday commuting.

New Knox Meta-Sys is lighter and stronger

Launched in 2012 and featuring all-new dual-compound hybrid technology, a unique four-plate structure, the Knox Meta-Sys back protector set new standards of protection and flexibility. Updated and improved for 2015, the new Meta-Sys offers more protection, less weight and is fully certified to the highest level of the latest CE standard.

The Meta-Sys is constructed using a ’hard’ polypropylene outer shell to dissipate impact, combined with a lightweight Nitrex inner layer for superior energy absorption and protection against multiple impacts. It exceeds Level 2 of the tough new EN 1621-2:2014 back protector standard; the mean transmitted force is less than 6kN in each of the 10 tests. In fact some tests showed just 3kN. The Meta-Sys offers the same level of protection in extreme temperatures, ranging from -20 to +40C, something that few other protectors achieve.

This increased protection hasn’t come at the expense of weight; the 2015 Meta-Sys weighs just 1.08kg. Lighter than most full carbon motorcycle helmets.

Constructed in four sections that move independently, the Meta-Sys allows unrestricted movement and flexibility. It automatically lengthens and shortens as the rider bends and straightens, for complete coverage and comfort, and comes in three torso lengths for optimum fit.

The Meta-Sys is available from all authorised Knox retailers at £129.99 (RRP including VAT). See it on the Knox stand at Motorcycle Live this November, (3C10).

For more information contact Knox: +44 1900 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com

Notes

EN 1621-2:2014 assesses the performance of protective devices by measuring the force transmitted through it when impacted by a falling mass of 5kg. Protectors subjected to the test are deemed to conform to the standard if the average transmitted force of 10 tests is less than 18 kN for Level 1 protectors and 9 kN for Level 2.

All Knox back protectors have a 5 year service life. This means the materials used in the products will not naturally degrade over this time span. This excludes accident damage, general wear and tear, exposure to extreme conditions or substances that may cause adverse effects (petrol, oil, etc).

Meta-Sys Additional features

Air induction system for ventilation / Multi adjustment system on the waist for a tailored fit / Extra side adjustment straps give a more secure fit against the spine / Quick release soft shoulder straps can cross over for increased comfort / Optional Knox CE Approved Chest protector

KEiS X900 Heated Outer Gloves – wherever, whenever

Updated for the 2014/15 winter season, X900 Dual Control Heated Outer Gloves from KEiS now include the option to power their heated panels from rechargeable battery packs, which tuck away neatly into pockets in each cuff. This means that heat is on tap wherever you are, whenever you need it – riding, skiing or fishing.

The Dual-Power X900 gloves can also be powered direct from the bike’s battery.

Like the full range of KEiS heated clothing, X900 gloves feature Micro Alloy-Fibre Technology, which provides reliable and even heat, whilst still allowing easy movement and feel; crucial for delicate operation of the controls during winter riding conditions. The heat is controlled by a button on the back of each glove, so the rider can tailor the temperature whilst on the move.

A waterproof, breathable textile shell and genuine leather palm reinforcement tops off the specification.

The X900s come with a fused supply lead for connection direct to a 12-volt vehicle battery. A ‘cigarette lighter’ adaptor is also available for vehicles fitted with a power socket, and current draw is just 1.0 amps, so they won’t put undue stress on the bike’s battery and charging system.

KEiS X900 Dual Control Heated Outer Gloves are available in unisex sizes XS-XXL, at £130- including VAT, and come complete with all required wiring and instructions. Optional KEiS X900 Battery Packs and Charger sell for £70-. For further info and details of the complete KEiS range, call 01256 704909 or visit: www.keisapparel.co.uk

Notes: KEiS has enjoyed an average annual growth of 30% since 2011 and is now the UK’s best-selling brand of heated clothing.

Kushitani: Suzuka 8-Hour Suit Available

Riders can own the same type of Kushitani one-piece leather race suit used to take victory in this year’s Suzuka 8 Hours motorcycle endurance event.

Takumi Takahashi was using the Kushitani Innovation suit when he took his second ever victory at the prestigious event in July as part of the MuSASHi RT HARC-PRO Honda team when he partnered with 2013 8 Hour winner, Leon Haslam, and the recently crowned World Supersport champion, Michael van der Mark.

The Innovation suit is a premier, GP-spec suit from the historic Japanese company and boasts a 1.5mm cowhide construction made from a breed of cows unique to Kushitani. Starting from £1649, the high specification leather race suit from Hamamatsu, Japan, is fully customisable in terms of sizing, colours and detailing. Riders can even choose an exact replica of what Takumi used when piloting his Fireblade to victory.

As Japanese ‘off the peg’ sizing differs radically to European sizing, Kushitani offers riders two options in order to get a suit that fits them perfectly; ‘Easy Order’ and ‘Full Custom Order’.

‘Easy Order’ represents 95% of the Japanese factory’s sales and is extremely simple way to get what is largely a bespoke suit. A downloadable pack is available from the website that contains a sizing chart, colour pallete and instructions on how to accurately get the 19 measurements required for a perfectly fitting suit. To get the fit as exact as possible, the level of detail goes as deep as stating the make and model of back protector used and what other personal preferences are wanted, such as ‘tight’ or ‘loose’ fit.

These details can either be emailed or posted back to Kushitani UK before it is sent to the factory in Japan, to be compared to the dimensions of a ‘stock’ suit. The customer then receives a CAD drawing of the actual suit in their colours and other requested details (name, badges, etc.) with a final quote of the delivered price. At this point the potential customer can approve the suit, change the design or cancel the order.

The ‘Full Custom Order’ option adds on from ‘Easy Order’, but in this case every panel is made specifically for the customers size.

Takumi was also using the range-topping Kushitani GPR-6 (£189.99) that were developed in MotoGP and the Suzuki 8-Hours. The GPR-6 glove gets its name from having six layers of outer protection and is the highest specification glove from Kushitani, focusing on maximum protection and comfort for riders who seek to get the most from their machines.

Dark Side MT Tour at Motorcycle Live

The popular ‘Dark Side MT Tour’ will add one more stop to its 2014 schedule when it visits Motorcycle Live from 22nd – 30th November.

Following a hectic five city UK tour during the summer of 2014 the popular MT Tour has added one final venue to its schedule for the year, as it is now confirmed as a new feature at this year’s Motorcycle Live at the NEC.

The MT Tour has already provided an opportunity for riders across the country to experience the new range of Yamaha MT bikes and discover their ‘Dark Side’ by trying out an MT for themselves. The summer events included stunt shows, an Extreme Wheelie machine and even a new rider MT experience with both an MT-125 and restricted A2 compliant MT-07 machine available with fully trained instructors.

The appearance of the MT Tour at Motorcycle Live adds yet another new dimension to this year’s premier event and confirms why the NEC remains a must visit destination for every serious rider.

The giant MT Tour truck will take centre stage for the MT Tour display with its Dark Side branding and collection of MT clothing and accessories. Sited inside Hall 3 right next to the Yamaha stand, the MT Tour truck will have many of the accessorised MT Tour bikes on show, along with the Dave Coates MT-09 stunt bike which comes to the event straight from its last show.

But the most popular attraction is certain to be the fleet of MT-09, MT-09 Street Rally and MT-07 demo bikes that will be available for riders to enjoy in an escorted test ride. Bookings for the test rides can only be made on the MT Tour truck on the actual day so riders should make their way to the Yamaha stand on arrival and secure a slot as places are limited.

Riders can find details of the additional MT Tour dates at Motorcycle Live and requirements for booking test rides by visiting:

http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/experience/mt-tour/index.aspx

With new 2015 MT models and colours on display on the Yamaha stand next to the MT Tour truck Motorcycle Live will be another new chapter in the MT story. And following the huge number of awards the MT range has received this year the MT demo bikes are certain to be a popular addition to the line-up at Motorcycle Live this year.

The 2014 Motorcycle Live event runs from Saturday 22nd Nov to Sunday 30th November 2014. Doors open at 10.00 each day. For full details of the event visit:

http://www.motorcyclelive.co.uk/

Some restrictions apply to riders wishing to book a test ride and riders must present a full valid motorcycle driving licence. See website for full terms and conditions

Pirelli DIABLO ROSSO™ II is chosen by MV Agusta as original equipment for the new Brutale 800 RR

The supersport tyre from the Italian brand does the double equipping the latest models presented by the Schiranna company, in 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 and 200/50 ZR17 rear sizes

Confirming itself as the best choice for high-performance and the most exclusive motorcycles recently launched on the market, the DIABLO ROSSO™II continues its domination.
In fact the supersport tyre of the Pirelli range has been chosen by MV Agusta to equip the new Brutale 800 RR (120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear sizes) and the Brutale Dragster 800 RR (120/70 ZR17 front and 200/50 ZR17 rear).

In particular, the 200/50 ZR17 rear equipping the new Brutale Dragster 800 RR has been specially developed by Pirelli for this MV Agusta model.

DIABLO™ is the family of high performance motorcycle tyres from Pirelli. The DIABLO™ trademark was born in 2002, making its first entry into the supersport segment and then extending the range up to the present in many other market sectors. DIABLO™ can therefore boast over 10 years of history, experience, technology and victories both on track and in comparative tests produced by the leading motorcycle magazines.

DIABLO ROSSO™II is the supersport tyre for road use of the Rosso Generation. As a result of technologies developed by Pirelli in over ten years of participation in the FIM Superbike World Championship, DIABLO ROSSO™II brings to new horizons the sporty attributes of the Rosso Generation for road use. Developed for naked and supersport motorcycles that require high performance and crucially, riding safety in all conditions, from winding country roads to city traffic, on dry as well as wet surfaces.

DIABLO ROSSO™II adopts some of the cutting edge technologies from Pirelli:

• The EPT (Enhanced Patch Technology), a technology developed by Pirelli in the Superbike World Championship, it optimizes the contact patch for improved adhesion of the tyre to the asphalt, giving excellent grip
• The ICS (Ideal Contour Shaping), is the technology that enhances the grip and the power delivery of modern motorcycles perfectly shaping the profile of the tyre for unprecedented results in terms of stability and safety while leaning
• FGD (Functional Groove Design) contributes to improve the wear regularity and to further increase the contact surface with an improved sea/land ratio that increases the agility of riding and the transmission of the power to the ground.

The structure of DIABLO ROSSO™II has been designed to maximize the contact area at any angle and at all speeds, to support the tread and to gain sporty grip combined with excellent stability. All this was achieved with the EPT technology that ensures a more uniform distribution of stress and pressure over the entire contact area.
The profiles designed with the ICS technology, provide support in lean and confidence while exiting corners at full throttle.
Structure and profiles have been designed to allow the front and the rear tyres to work in sync with a balanced behaviour.
The 0° steel belt under the tread optimizes the shape and elasticity of the tyre thus ensuring the rider progressive feedback through the corner, a homogeneous behaviour and optimal ‘bump’ absorption. With the support of the compounds, the zero-degree steel belt ensures maximum braking stability.

Regarding the compounds, DIABLO ROSSO™II applies the Bi-Compound concept to the rear tyre optimizing mileage and grip. In the central area there are polymers that improve the hysteresis to provide a faster warm-up and high traction in straight acceleration.

On the external zone, the slick area contains a High Dispersion Carbon Black compound that provides an excellent grip at full lean and with any riding style.
Both compounds warm up quickly and reach the optimal temperature of use in a very short time, letting the rider feel confidence and grip from the very beginning. Finally, the compound of the front tyre provides regular wear combined with stability.

The tread pattern design of the DIABLO ROSSO™II uses the FGD technology: the grooves are positioned exactly where needed, leaving the slick area on the shoulders and at the centre to ensure high mileage and grip at lean.

DIABLO ROSSO™II is exclusively personalisable thanks to special adhesive labels that can be created on the Pirelli website and applied on both sides of the front and rear tyres. Each tyre creates an identity with which each rider may tell his story and his passion for two wheels.

Buzz Off with Grip Buddies

Grip Buddies are a neat solution to the problem of ‘buzzing’ handlebars. Many riders experience a tingling sensation in their hands and fingers during a ride, which alongside being uncomfortable and unpleasant, can affect concentration and control.

Grip Buddies are made from neoprene, which helps to absorb vibration from the bars. They measure just 3.8mm thick, enough to provide a barrier against the buzzing without adding too much width to the grips.

Unlike some slip-on foam grips, the neoprene doesn’t absorb water, and Grip Buddies also feature a ‘Super Sharkskin’ textured outer layer, which is designed to stay grippy when wet. They’re also fully compatible with heated grips; the low profile design allowing heat to pass through quickly.

Quick and easy to fit, using a strong, self-adhesive hook-and-eye strip, Grip Buddies go straight on top of both standard and heated grips, and are designed not to ‘creep’ or move during use.

Grip Buddies cost just £25- a set, including VAT, and are currently available for all BMW models, most larger Japanese machines, as well as Triumphs and Harley Davidsons.

Getting it Right at The Dirt Bike Show

The International Dirt Bike Show at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire opens next week on Thursday 30th October and, acting on visitor feedback from last year the organiser has been hard at work getting a few things sorted and new ideas in place for the 2014 event.

First up is the introduction of an Electric Zone to expand the content of the Show, to showcase just what some of the bikes can do, and to let visitors have a go. KTM enduro factory ace Jonny Walker will be getting charged up, putting the all-new KTM Freeride E through its paces in a series of demonstrations on the Friday of the show. Video footage of Jonny racing around a disused power station with street trials phenomenon and Freeride E ambassador Danny MacAskill, will also show just what the high-powered electric motor can achieve. In hall three, visitors can watch Oset ‘Pro’ trials riders proving that size isn’t everything when it comes to battery-powered fun and agility, and then the younger members of the family can head out to hall five and have an electric trials try-out for themselves on both the Oset and Mecatecno bikes.

The popularity of last year’s Show, particularly over the weekend, caused something of a bottleneck out at the front. A better queuing system, with designated access points for advance tickets, etc., and plenty more ticket booths will be installed this time to speed up entry and get you fast-tracking into the Stoneleigh halls. Then once inside, to help you plan your day and navigate your way around the five halls, you can pick up a free copy of the official Show Guide which will include a layout of the halls together with an exhibitor listing. Floor plans will also be dotted around the Show and can also be accessed via the Show App which is free to download at www.dirtbikeshow.co.uk.

There will be non-stop action and entertainment throughout the four days of the Show, and to ensure you don’t miss out, activity timetables will be located in the foyer and in the halls. There will also be frequent and clear PA announcements, the International Dirt Bike Show girls will have timetables and both the Show website and App will prove useful as they will be constantly updated from the Show with the latest news and developments – before they happen!

Getting-it-right is important to the Show organiser and the overwhelming feedback was for the MiniBike racing to be bigger and better and it promises to be just that! A bigger track will loop into the centre of hall five, there will be more spectator viewing, there will be post-race results, there’ll be live timing screens to keep you up to speed with lap times and positions and, a trade area adjacent to the track will sell minibike-related goods.

Remember that money saving advance tickets are still on sale and will continue to be available right up until midnight on Sunday 26th October 2014, just as we wave goodbye to British summertime. Visit www.dirtbikeshow.co.uk and follow the BUY TICKETS link.

Motobike Superstars Ride to Regent Street

World champions to launch major motorbike festival at the country’s biggest free motor show

A trio of true legends from the world of Grand Prix motorcycle racing – Freddie Spencer, Wayne Gardner and Christian Sarron – will be adding some motor sporting sparkle to the forthcoming Regent Street Motor Show.

All three former World Champions will be on Regent Street to announce the creation of a major new European classic and racing motorcycle festival. Full details will be disclosed to the media and fans alike in the heart of London’s West End on Saturday, 1 November.

There will also be a display of some of the bikes that took them to racing glory as well as a chance for autograph hunters and ‘selfie’ snappers.

The forthcoming event, which has been inspired by hugely popular classic race meetings such as the Silverstone Classic and the Goodwood Revival, will take place in Spain in 2015.

“To have three such special ambassadors at the official launch in Regent Street is certain to be a major draw for all bikers and bike racing fans,” said Nick Wigley, CEO of Goose Communications, the company that organises the Silverstone Classic, the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run and the Regent Street Motor Show.

Now in its fifth year, the Regent Street Motor Show is a unique showcase of motoring from the veteran and Edwardian eras to the modern day.

This ‘mile of automotive style’ sees the famous street closed to traffic from Piccadilly Circus to Oxford Circus for the day, so that enthusiasts, shoppers, London residents and tourists can pore over a huge variety of mouth-watering machinery embracing everything from motoring’s pioneers to the latest supercars. Last year it attracted more than 400,000 visitors.

Held the day before the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, many of the veteran cars will be on parade hoping to take top honours in the EFG International Concours d’Elegance.

They will be joined by other historic, classic and modern cars showing just how far the automobile has come since the days when every ‘horseless carriage’ had to be preceded by a man with a red flag.

This year, as well as cars and bikes from motoring’s past, there will be modern performance cars, family cars, eco cars and racing cars. Among the manufacturers who have signed up for the show are BMW, Infiniti, Morgan, Tesla and Renault.

SCORPION™ Trail II, the new enduro street tyre from Pirelli that opens up a new path for adventure

Specially designed for the latest generation adventure touring and enduro street motorcycles, SCORPION ™ Trail II offers the best features offered by an off road product and those guaranteed by a sport touring tyre

SCORPION™ Trail II is the new ‘enduro street’ tyre from Pirelli, a direct successor of SCORPION™ Trail.

The new SCORPION™ Trail II is the synthesis of the meeting of two worlds: the field of off road competition and the road trip. Designed for the most demanding motorcyclists, it features key points of excellence; high mileageconsistency of performance for it’s entire tyre life and top notch wet behaviour.

SCORPION™ Trail II is the new Pirelli tyre specifically designed to meet the most demanding expectations of this market, with an aggressive tread pattern supported by strong technological innovations, giving good stability even at high speed, traction on dirt, handling, comfort and grip in all riding conditions.

The word SCORPION™ recalls immediately the range of Pirelli products intended for use in off-road competitions not only in the two-wheel world but also on four wheels. The products in the SCORPION™ line are present in offroad car racing competitions, in the Enduro and Cross Country Rally World Championships and in the Motocross World Championship in which the range of off-road Pirelli tyres has been the undisputed leader for over 30 years with 62 world titles gained. The enduro street market remains a segment where motorcyclists’ expectations are always high and where motorcycle manufacturers continue to invest in launching new uprated products every year.

Who is it aimed at?

Suitable for the lastest generation adventure touring and enduro street motorycles able to tackle even long journeys and excursions, with light off-road sections, the new SCORPION™ Trail II is a tyre with good road performance, yet capable of tackling  unpaved surfaces. It is designed for motorcycles such as the Ducati Multistrada, Aprilia Caponord, BMW R 1200 GS, Triumph Tiger, KTM 1190 Adventure, Honda Crosstourer, Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré, Kawasaki Versys and Suzuki V-Strom, models which are increasingly being purchased by riders strictly for use on the road but which, if necessary, may also face stretches of dirt and light off-road.

The enduro street segment

The enduro segment was born during the 80’s when BMW with its GS models began winning the most prestigious African rallies with motorcycles equipped with a 21″ front tyre. Gradually these bikes reached the road in long distance raids, and thus the evolution of use reached a parallel evolution of the size of the tyres they mounted: the rear wheels became larger, while the front shrank to 19″.

The revolution in the development of the segment arrived in 2000 when Ducati introduced in the market the new Multistrada, a bike made to take on winding mountain roads and for competitions such as Pikes Peak. As a privileged partner of Ducati and for the Multistrada, Pirelli created the SCORPION™ Sync, the first ‘knobbly’ looking street sport tyre in 120/70-17 and 180/55-17 sizes. Now, a decade later, Pirelli will once again be the leader of a revolution in this segment, thanks to the introduction of the SCORPION™ Trail range in the rear dual-compound 190/55-17 size that marked the dawn of a new generation of street enduro machines such as the new Ducati Multistrada 1200.

In recent years the enduro street segment has become one of the most important in the PTW market and Pirelli decided to develop tyres with more road performance, but with an off road look, with particular attention to the handling in different road conditions.

The tread pattern

The innovative tread pattern of SCORPION™ Trail II is the result of this famous Off road line enriched with the experience gained by Pirelli with the development of ANGEL™ GT, considered the reference tyre in the Sport Touring segment. The tread pattern of SCORPION™ Trail II therefore has an aggressive look typical of an off-road tyre, behind which there are class performances combining the features of an enduro product with those of a sport touring one.

The side grooves of the new SCORPION™ Trail II have been designed to ensure optimal drainage in case of rain, while the layout and “binary open” shape of the central ones not only contribute to the drainage of water but also ensure better traction, greater stability and more regular wear.

The compounds

Pirelli was the first company to introduce the bi-compound solution in some rear sizes of enduro street tyres with the SCORPION™ Trail. Today, the Italian tyre company is able to apply this technology to all of the rear tyres in the SCORPION™ Trail II range.

Compared to its predecessor, the new tyre has a wider central section which retains a compound developed for high mileage without compromising cornering performance, and especially developed to offer excellent wet behaviour.

The side compound was designed to optimize the balance between performance on dry and wet roads.

The profiles

The profiles of SCORPION™ Trail II are derived directly from those used for ANGEL™ GT, the winner of important sport touring tyre comparatives made by the most prestigious international magazines.

Thanks to a shorter, wider, contact patch area, the profile helps to reduce and level the wear of the tread, thus ensuring greater mileage. Still with the application of new profiles it has been possible to increase the handling which remains unchanged throughout the whole life of the product.

All of these factors benefit traction and give better machine control.

The structure

Thanks to the structure developed to enable the central and lateral compounds work optimally, the new SCORPION™ Trail II ensures high performance, even at full load or with heavier motorcycles. This provides improved wet performance than its predecessor and an incredible versatility, making it comfortable even for long trips and on winding roads and in case of adverse weather conditions.

The personalization

The new SCORPION™ Trail II has a dedicated area on the side to apply a custom label with a wide range of customization options to choose from in terms of fonts, colours, banners, logos and tracks. For more information: www.pirelli.com/personalise
