GIVI Dives into the World of Electric Motorbikes

The Italian firm offers a wide range of products to meet the needs of any electric motorbike user, whatever their style.

The world is increasingly turning towards a sustainable, environmentally friendly and electric future. And the two-wheeled sector is no exception. GIVI has joined this new mobility trend that believes in a responsible lifestyle, offering storage solutions for all types of scooters and electric motorbikes, to make life easier for all riders who choose to reduce their emissions, whatever their means of travel.

GIVI, the transalpine firm of motorbike and motorcyclist equipment, is constantly working to offer solutions to two-wheeled users. In this case, they have focussed on those who choose to be environmentally friendly. Having listened to their specific needs, it has put together a complete range of modern accessories that transform and enhance electric mobility through the relentless pursuit of aesthetics, performance and innovation.

Electrifying urban style
The area where electric mobility has made the biggest inroads is the urban environment. More and more people are opting for electric scooters to get around town. For this reason, GIVI has made a selection of products to equip the main models on the market.

To add load capacity to electric scooters, GIVI has a multitude of top cases. Of these, the B32 BOLD stands out – a top case with a 32-litre capacity, equivalent to a modular helmet, which features a MONOLOCK® system and universal attachment system, which allows it to be mounted on almost any motorbike.

The transalpine firm also has a wide range of different helmets to suit the most urban tastes. One of this year’s new products, the X.25, is perfectly suited to the needs of everyday city riders. It’s a jet helmet with premium features such as the smoked inner visor and its ventilation system. An electric adventure
For all enduro enthusiasts with an electric motorbike, GIVI has a series of accessories in its catalogue to meet their needs. Such as the GRT719 backpack, with a 3-litre capacity and integrated hydration bag. This bag is specially designed for offroad use. There it boasts details such as a perfect adherence to the rider’s body, a chest strap with integrated whistle and a quick release strap to facilitate the removal of the backpack from the shoulders.

The transalpine firm also has a helmet specifically designed for these styles, the 60.1. It’s made with the latest technology, the best materials and has meets the new European homologation ECE 22R06 standards. Its interior is made of hypoallergenic, removable and washable fabric. What’s more, it has an adjustable visor, a “Double D” strap closure, which provides greater safety, and front and upper air intakes and in the chin guard, together with a rear extractor.

Electrify your route
Motorbike touring enthusiasts who have embraced electric mobility can count on GIVI to offer a wide range of products to meet their specific needs. Like its new top case, the Riviera E46, made of thermoformed plastic using a system of embossed moulds, which makes it more rigid, without renouncing the clean, rounded lines that favour aerodynamics. In addition, it has a high level of waterproofing that has been assessed in numerous tests.

For all touring users GIVI has a wide range of modular helmets, including one of this year’s new models: the X.21. It incorporates aventilation system consisting of 2 air intakes and a rear extractor, as well as a micrometric strap, lift-up chin guard, windshield, removable nose guard and removable and washable interior. In terms of safety, it has been certified with a double P/J homologation in accordance with the ECE 22R06 standard.

Speed makes no noise
GIVI has always paid attention to the needs of the most sporty motorcyclists in order to satisfy them through the constant search for aesthetics, high performance and innovation in their accessories. An example of this is their top of the range helmet, the 50.9, which is approved according to the ECE 22-06 standard, the most recent and the most demanding to date. Correct air circulation is guaranteed thanks to its three front air intakes and two rear extractors. What’s more, the interior is completely removable and washable and is made of hypoallergenic fabric.

To meet the needs of load capacity without having to add anything to the electric sports bike, GIVI has a large selection of reinforced soft bags to suit all tastes. Without a doubt, the one with sportiest style is the ST606, a backpack with a thermoformed lid and capacity of 22 litres. It’s specifically designed to be used on sports bikes, offering perfect stability even at high speeds. It doesn’t end there: it’s made with side zips covered with reflective materials to deflect air and prevent it from opening unexpectedly.

Café racer style and electric innovation
For motorbike enthusiasts with a unique and timeless style, GIVI accessories are also suitable for electric models. This is the case with the 10.7, a demi-jet helmet with a compact size that allows it to be stowed in the small spaces under the saddle. It also has has a lightness – it weighs less than one kilogram – which makes it stand out. Its standard features include a strap with micrometric closure, removable interior and pads and a ventilation system with rear extractor, something unusual in this type of helmet and a feature which sets it apart from the competition.

A practical and different option to increase the load capacity on a classic motorbike is a tank bag. In the GIVI catalogue you can find a model specifically designed for these motorbikes, the CRM103, which is fixed by 4 removable magnets that attach to the tank, together with 4 additional straps.

These, and many more GIVI items, provide a boost for motorcycle trips and make any journey on two wheels a more comfortable experience. For more information about this product or any other accessories for your motorcycle visit www.givi.co.uk or call 01327 706220.

GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 to hit the hill at Goodwood Festival of Speed

MotoGP™ will rip around one of the largest and most prestigious annual motorsport ‘meets’ from July 13th to 16th with a hefty presence at the ‘Festival of Speed’ near the southern coast of England, and GASGAS have never turned down the chance to get lively with a throttle. For star rider Pol Espargaro the event will mean a ‘reunion’ with the #44 GASGAS RC16.

GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 will join some of their paddock peers to parade up the famous Goodwood hill and meet fans of what is expected to be an attendance well over 200,000 from Thursday to Sunday. Tickets have flown as quickly as the wide 2023 display of cars, bikes and other legendary motorsport icons once did around racetracks across the world.

The 30th running of the Festival of Speed comes only a couple of weeks before MotoGP emerges from a summer break and with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone – another track as historic as they come – during the first weekend of August. To mark the occasion and for the special celebration of Grand Prix, GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 will run the GASGAS RC16s along the Goodwood climb and with Pol Espargaro making his long-awaited return to the saddle on Thursday and Friday and then star rookie, Augusto Fernandez, donning the leathers on Saturday and Sunday.

Consolidates Off-Road Range

The latest 10TEN e-bike – MXE-3L.
For over five years, the 10TEN brand has been making an impact on the UK’s off-road scene.

Popular for being competitively-priced and fun, while incorporating high-spec and stylish features backed up with a solid reputation for reliability, 10TEN’s Pit, Dirt and Supermoto-style machines have developed a healthy following of dirt riding enthusiasts.

The range was boosted towards the end of last year when two fully-electric models joined the line-up, taking its number to a total of 13 machines, offering models suitable for youth and adult riders of all ages and abilities.

From the outset, the core models of the 10TEN lineup were the youth 50R and 90R MX and 90R Supermoto, sitting alongside the 125R Pit bike, in two sizes, the 140R in Dirt and Supermoto guises, and the 250R that bridges the gap from Pit to full size motocross bike.

The 250RX motocross bike joined 10TEN towards the end of 2019, increasing the appeal of the marque to young minibike riders through to adult racers. The 250RX provides a larger frame to accommodate its 21” and 18” wheels, a gripper seat, aluminium silencer, and USD forks with adjustable rebound fitted as standard.

Next up from 10TEN was a venture into the rapidly-expanding electric bike market with the user (and wallet) friendly 10TENMX-E. This was quickly followed by the launch of a great-value youth quad, the 10TEN 110 RXR.

10TEN continued to develop its range towards the end of 2022, when two electric bikes in the form of the MX-E3 and MX-E3L were unveiled. The MX-E3 has 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels, making it ideal for use by adults and teenagers, either on the track or out on the trail. It boasts a high-power, 72v battery with a motor providing 3kw, a peak power of 12kw, and a 4-speed transmission. A modern chassis with a long-movement suspension package and sleek, modern styling keeps it up to date.

The MXE-3L is a full-size adult bike, perfect for all types of off-road conditions. It has 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels and also features a high-power 72v battery and a motor providing 3kw with a peak power of 12kw, with the addition of a 4-speed transmission. It is fitted with 48mm front forks offering 260mm of travel and a fully adjustable rear shock offering a similar amount of rear wheel travel.

The brand-new helmet features two brand-new patented technologies and integrated active brake lights for ‘Intelligent Visibility’.

Designed without the need for Bluetooth or wires, the innovative LED system offers active brake lights as standard with industry-leading tech that uses an inbuilt triaxial accelerometer to activate the red LED’s on the rear of the helmet when braking. There are white LEDs located on the front of the helmet for active rider visibility to oncoming traffic.

When the unit is turned on, there are a total of three modes to choose from:

  1. White LEDs on front and red LEDs on back constantly on – smart brake lights flash when braking.

A Motorcycle From The BBC TV Series ‘Father Brown’ is For Sale

A motorcycle from the BBC TV series ‘Father Brown’ is for sale with Silverstone Auctions.

Shuttleworth Motorcycle Sale July 30th

Once in a while an object from a TV series arrives on the auction market and creates a stir – that is exactly what is happening with this great 1954 BSA A10 Golden Flash featured in the BBC Father Brown episode ‘Wheels of Wrath’ starring Mark Williams. The TV series was loosely based on the Father Brown short stories by G. K. Chesterton.

1954 BSA A10 Golden Flash 646cc – £3,000 – £4,000

The Gold Flash was the first bike produced within the new BSA A10 model range and was in production from 1950 to 1963. Painted in gold for the USA market, hence the name, and black for the UK. It was capable of over 100mph and managed the standing quarter-mile in under 16 seconds.

Set in the 1950s, Father Brown’s character was a Roman Catholic priest based in the fictional village of Kembleford in the Cotswolds, who used his distinctive skills to solve various crimes.

In the episode ‘Wheels of Wrath’ a motorbike gang, the Ton Up’s arrive in Kembleford and one of the gang, Roger Norton, seems to be on a pilgrimage, lighting a candle in St Mary’s. When he is killed by barbed wire strung across the road Father Brown investigates, wishing to know why Roger Norton had lit a candle in church. With sergeant Goodfellow’s help he discovers that Turner and Norton were involved in the death of a young girl.

The bike is a charming reminder of a gentler time when skulduggery was something a village priest might become involved in solving. Presented in mostly original condition with great patina.

This motorcycle along with over 100 other bikes coming up for sale at Silverstone Auctions Shuttleworth Sale on 30th July, can be viewed online at www.silverstoneauctions.com . Here interested parties can also register to bid be it online, on the telephone, via a commission bid or live in the room on the day. The Auction takes place at Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Bedfordshire, SG18 9EP on Sunday 30th July, with a viewing day on Saturday 29th July. This promises to be a great event with visitors to the auction able to explore the estates working aeronautical and automotive collection as well as its Regency Swiss Garden and grounds.

Ventura Evo Luggage for Honda Hornet 750

Hassle-free carrying capability for Honda’s new generation Hornet

Kiwi motorcycle luggage experts, Ventura, have added Honda’s new CB750 Hornet to their Bike Pack System fitment list. Lightweight, simple to fit and use, the system adds serious carrying capability to the highly-rated roadster.

Perfect for street bikes like the new CB750, Ventura’s Evo System doesn’t need unsightly and bulky racks like hard-luggage. Simply attach the tailor-made L-Brackets to existing subframe mounting points, slot on the Evo Rack and it’s ready for a Pack.

Packs use a sleeve-fitting system so they just slide on and clip in place – much less hassle than traditional soft bags. The rack and sleeve system also means the load won’t shift while riding. The Pack can either be carried over the pillion seat, or behind it when a passenger is on-board.

Made from water-resistant and durable laminated ballistic fabric, Packs have wide openings, glove-friendly zip-pulls and other practical features. They also come in a range of sizes – from a 12-litre day bag to a 60-litre tour pack. All the Packs are designed to have minimal impact on airflow.

The system pictured is an ideal weekend-away set up, featuring the 22-litre Evo-22 Jet-Stream Pack. Priced at £478.85 Including VAT, the kit comes with everything needed – Evo Pack, Evo Rack, Hornet-specific L-Brackets and fitting instructions.

Bought separately, the L-Brackets cost £172.95 and the Evo Rack is £96.95.

Yamaha Celebrates 25th Anniversary of the Revolutionary R1

Yamaha Motor Europe is proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ground-breaking R1 with dedicated activities planned at the Yamaha Racing Experience (YRE).

This year the YRE will be held at the legendary Mugello Circuit in Italy on the 21st and 22nd of July and will bring together some of Yamaha’s biggest stars and enthusiasts to honour the remarkable legacy of the iconic machine.

Since its launch, the Yamaha R1 has redefined standards of performance and innovation in the industry. Its 25-year journey of evolution is a testament to Yamaha’s dedication to engineering excellence, which cemented the R1 as an icon of speed, power, and cutting-edge technology that revolutionised the sports bike market.

Making its grand entrance in 1998, at the core of the R1 was an innovative, compact, and lightweight 998cc, liquid-cooled, 20-valve, double overhead camshaft, four-cylinder engine which featured a five-valve-per-cylinder head with redesigned valve sizes to boost torque and improved porting.

However, the real game-changer came from Project Leader Kunihiko Miwa’s ingenious decision to create the world’s first vertically stacked gearbox in a production motorcycle, which resulted in a lighter, shorter engine that allowed for a longer swing arm, enhancing traction while maintaining a conventional sports bike wheelbase.

In addition to its innovative powertrain, the 1998 R1 introduced an all-new aluminium Deltabox II chassis, a heavily braced alloy swingarm, a Yamaha Monoshock shock absorber, and upside-down 41mm fully adjustable front forks developed in collaboration with Öhlins.

This Grand Prix-inspired compact chassis and suspension setup offered unrivalled handling and manoeuvrability, setting a new benchmark for modern sports bikes, with the R1 producing an astonishing 150PS while weighing only 177 kg.

The R1’s racing success was equally remarkable. At the prestigious Isle of Man TT, the bike made history in 1999 when David Jefferies stormed to the TT Formula One victory, in the process setting a record 121,235 mph lap, before going on to win the Senior race and the Production TT, confirming the R1’s racing pedigree to the world.

As Yamaha continued to refine and improve the R1, the 2000 model was launched with revisions to over 250 parts, including engine and chassis enhancements, more aerodynamic bodywork, and a new titanium muffler.

Two years later, in 2002, Yamaha introduced the next generation of R1, led by Project Leader Yoshikazu Koike, which showcased a groundbreaking vacuum-controlled fuel injection system that provided refined power output and a new Deltabox III frame which was lighter and yet 30% stronger in torsional rigidity.

The year 2004 marked the arrival of the fourth generation R1 featuring new engine with larger bore and shorter stroke and closed-deck cylinder design, as well as fracture-split (FS) connecting rods, RAM-air intake, new under-seat exhausts, revised chassis geometry and a sharpened body design. For the first time a production motorcycle was achieving the 1:1 power to weight ratio, thanks to the 180PS delivered by the completely new power train.

The R1 that was unveiled in 2007 boasted Yamaha’s innovative YCC-T ride-by-wire throttle system and electronically controlled variable air intake funnels (YCC-I). Project Leader Makato Shimamoto also introduced a new four-valve design motor, slipper clutch,  an improved Deltabox frame as well as improved brakes and suspension.

Building on its legacy, Yamaha launched the next generation R1 in 2009, featuring a ground-breaking crossplane crankshaft engine, directly derived from Yamaha’s MotoGP M1. This unique design reduced inertia forces and delivered a more linear throttle connection.  Next to that, Development Leader Toyoshi Nishida introduced twin fuel injectors, a new lightweight aluminium Deltabox frame, cast magnesium subframe and cutting-edge electronics.

This model set the standard for handling and performance in the world of racing in 2009, highlighted by the incredible performance of American Ben Spies in WorldSBK, with the rookie recording 14 wins in 28 races to claim the 2009 title.

Reinforcing the competitiveness of the R1 that year, the YART Yamaha EWC team was crowned Endurance World Champions, while Leon Camier won 19 out of 26 races on his way to lifting the British Superbike Championship, and Katsuyuki Nakasuga clinched his first Japanese Superbike Championship title.

Constantly looking to innovate, the 2012 R1 incorporated a traction control system that adjusted ignition timing, fuel delivery, and throttle opening to maintain optimal traction, enhancing drivability and fuel consumption.

To mark another ground-breaking step, the 2015 R1 was launched with a powerful 200PS engine and was the first production motorcycle equipped with a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and electronic support systems – developed and proven in MotoGP. With a dry weight of 179 kg and a host of racing features the 2015 R1 has been a sensation. Project Chief Hideki Fujiwara also introduced the top-of-the-line, limited edition R1M which featured electronically controlled suspension, a lightweight carbon-fibre cowl, and an onboard data logger to cater to the needs of serious racing and track day devotees.

The 2018 R1 model offered riders an even more extensive array of sophisticated electronics, and the addition of a Quick Shift System (QSS) with a blipper function for clutchless up and downshifting took the R1 and R1M’s performance on the street and track to the next level. The R1’s handling performance was refined with more progressive mapping on the Lift Control System as well as revised suspension settings – and the Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension on the R1M featured a revised interface for a more intuitive set-up.

For 2020, the R1 featured a CP4 engine  with new cylinder head, camshafts and injection system – while the extensive electronic rider aids were refined to ensure even higher levels of controllability. A new EBM (Engine Brake Management) enabled the rider to select one of three different engine braking forces to match riding conditions – and the new Brake Control (BC) system gave added confidence and control when cornering. With revised damping valves and a reduced spring rate, the R1’s 43mm KYB forks provided increased feedback for a more natural handling feeling. And for improved chassis performance and reduced lap times the R1M was equipped with a new rear shock and uprated Öhlins ERS NPX gas pressurised forks.

Over recent years, the R1 and R1M have continued to evolve and remain a dominant force on the racing scene, with Pata Yamaha Prometeon Official WorldSBK Team’s Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Andrea Locatelli leading the charge in the FIM Superbike World Championship. The highlight of which was Razgatlıoğlu’s 2021 WorldSBK Championship winning season that saw the Turkish rider rack up 13 race wins and 16 further podiums on his way to the title, while Italian Locatelli has grown from strength-to-strength on the R1 and has 11 podiums to his name so far.

On top of this, the R1 has demonstrated its prowess all over the world, with the Yamaha Factory Racing Team winning the historic Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race four times in a row between 2015-2018, plus Cameron Beaubier (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020) and Jake Gagne (2021, 2022) securing seven of the last eight AMA Superbike titles.

In 2021, Nakasuga would lift an incredible tenth Japanese Superbike Championship, with Tommy Hill (2011), Josh Brookes (2015), Tarran Mackenzie (2021), and Bradley Ray (2022) all being crowned British Superbike Champions on the R1.

As the legacy of the R1 continues to grow, Yamaha remains committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation with the introduction of the R1 GYTR. GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) is Yamaha’s in-house specialist racing component division that has been developing performance enhancing technology for over 40 years. Designed specifically for track-day riders and racers who recognise Yamaha’s winning performance and premium quality, the 2023 R1 GYTR is faster and more precise than ever. Manufactured to comply with FIM Stock 1000 regulations, this high-specification machine provides individuals and teams with the ultimate canvas to create their own unique superbike. The R1 GYTR is equipped with over 25 GYTR race specification components including an Akrapovic race exhaust system,  racing ECU, wiring harness, GYTR chassis parts, drive system and complete race cowling in primer white – plus much more. The R1 GYTR is available exclusively from GYTR PRO SHOPS.

To mark such a momentous anniversary, the Yamaha Racing Experience at Mugello will host the celebration activities for the R1, with the Tuscany circuit, renowned for its fast and challenging track layout that makes it a favourite among riders and fans alike, providing the perfect setting to honour such an incredible machine. Usually the event is exclusive to R1M customers, however the 2023 YRE will be open for the first time to R1 owners to mark this momentous occasion, with two different options available to them to attend.

There are 25 spots available to R1 owners for the whole two days program, where they can enjoy the full Yamaha Racing Experience along with the R1M customers – which includes track sessions on both days, the ability to get advises from Yamaha racing technicians to give their bikes the optimum setup, exclusive tours of the Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK pit box, and much more. Click here to learn more and register for the two-day whole YRE experience.

There is also an option for R1 owners to attend just on Saturday, where they can register for up to two track sessions for free and still enjoy the event atmosphere, and go behind the scenes in the Pata Yamaha Prometeon garage. For more information on this option and to register to attend just on Saturday, click here.

Venhill Clutch Cable Upgrade for Tiger 800

Small-cost/big-gain upgrade for Triumph’s popular middleweight adventure bike.

British motorcycle control specialists Venhill have developed a Featherlight Clutch Cable kit for the Triumph Tiger 800 range. This low cost and easy-to-fit upgrade brings instant benefits to the popular middleweight adventurer.

Offering the specification of a large dual-sport bike in an easy-to-handle package, the Tiger 800 delivers serious touring and overlanding potential. Venhill’s new kit helps owners ride even further, improving clutch control and also reducing fatigue and discomfort in the hand and arm.

Developed and made by Venhill in their UK factory, Featherlight Kits use the latest cable technology and materials for improved performance and durability, as well as a smoother, lighter clutch action.

Each cable has high quality marine-grade stainless steel inner wire to eliminate stretch and is ‘Bird-caged’ – allowing solder to penetrate the weave of the cable, making the bond with the nipple much stronger – reducing the risk of breakage.

A PTFE ‘teflon’ liner minimises friction, and removes the need for regular lubrication. This is then wrapped in a stainless steel braid and covered with a hardened PA6 Nylon jacket, to protect the inner from damage and corrosion.

The new cable kits retail at just £25.32 inc VAT and are a direct replacement for the original, for quick and easy fitting. They include adjustment at lever end for fine-tuning the bite point.

Fitments are available for all Triumph Tiger 800, XC, XCa, XCX, XR, XRt and XRx models from MY2010-2020.

Riders and fans of Harley-Davidson made their way to Budapest from across the globe, travelling across Europe but also from the USA, Australia, South Africa and Singapore. Visitors were also treated to free tours of up to 300km, hosted by local experts, taking them far beyond Budapest to some of northern Hungary’s most scenic locations.

One of the highlights for both visitors and locals was an extensive entertainment schedule, which included more than 50 bands across five stages. International acts such as Airbourne and Wolfmother from Australia, Larkin Poe from USA, fan favourite The Picture Books from Germany, and UK rock band The Darkness took to the arena stages, with Glenn Hughes Performing Classic Deep Purple bringing the show to a close on Sunday night. A clear Hungarian flavour was also added to the entertainment line-up with iconic bands such as EDDA Művek and Pokolgép also headlining.

VIPs in attendance included Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson, overseeing a prize draw alongside Karen Davidson and Bill Davidson, 4thgeneration grandchildren of company co-founder William A. Davidson. A limited edition 120th Anniversary Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic was awarded to a UK winner.

As well as a wide variety of creative custom motorcycles on show in various locations around the festival, Friday saw a customer ride-in Custom Bike Show, supported by Metzeler tyres, and featuring more than 80 bikes, brought especially to Budapest to compete, from eight different countries. The ultimate winner was Marco Sonnino from Italy.

The company was also delighted to announce the location for next year’s 30th edition H.O.G. Rally, a free event open to all riders, which will take place in Senigallia, Italy from June 6-9, 2024. The outstanding location is less than two hours from Bologna and features iconic renaissance architecture, a stunning coastline and is surrounded by rolling hills and winding roads, making it a perfect location to plan a tour to in 2024.

Kolja Rebstock, Regional Vice-President for Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “This was a truly incredible festival which epitomised Harley-Davidson as a truly magnetic brand and lifestyle that reaches far beyond motorcycles. On behalf of Harley-Davidson EMEA, I would like to thank the event organisers ‘SportMarketing Agency Kft’, the city of Budapest and of course the people of Hungary for embracing the festival’s combination of motorcycle, music and entertainment by making riders from all over the world welcome. We will head to Austria for our next large scale event on 5-10th September to welcome riders in celebrating 25 years of European Bike Week.”
