Celebrating 10 Years of Triumph and The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride

Celebrating 10 Years Of Triumph And The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride With The Launch of a Stunning New Bonneville T120 Black DGR Limited Edition.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) unites hundreds of thousands of classic and vintage style motorcycle fans all over the world to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. Founded in Sydney Australia in 2012, the DGR was created by Mark Hawwa as a wonderful new way to bring together motorcycle enthusiasts, focused on a common cause for good. Growing year on year, today the DGR spans the world with more than 90,000 riders taking to the streets in more than 800 cities, with more than $37m USD raised for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health to date.

Triumph became the official motorcycle partner of the DGR from 2014, bringing a commitment to increase awareness, grow participation and ultimately increase fundraising in support of this worthy cause.  Everyone involved at Triumph is proud to have played a key role, in collaboration with Mark Hawwa and his team, in growing this incredible community. From providing financial support and resources that have helped to raise the profile of the DGR globally, to rewarding its participants, sharing the passion and drive that has made the DGR the world’s largest on-road charity motorcycling event.

One of Triumph’s most significant contributions has been in growing awareness and motivating fundraisers around the world, by providing motorcycles from Triumph’s Modern Classic range as rewards for the top fundraisers. In previous years this has included unique motorcycles, such as a one-of-a-kind Triumph Thruxton RS DGR Edition and a custom ‘1959 Legends’ Triumph Bonneville T120 and matching Gibson Les Paul Standard guitar, awarded to the 2022 ride’s highest fundraiser as part of a collaboration between Triumph and Gibson.

2023 marks the 10th year of this incredible partnership and represents a huge milestone for Triumph and the DGR.  To celebrate this landmark anniversary and help make the 2023 DGR event the biggest and most successful to date, Triumph have created 250 exclusive new Bonneville T120 Black Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride Limited Edition motorcycles.

Designed with a stylish DGR metallic black and white paint scheme, featuring official DGR branding with a custom logo on the tank and side panels, gold detailing and distinctive brown seat, each one comes with a numbered certificate, signed by DGR founder Mark Hawwa and Triumph CEO Nick Bloor – with edition 001 being presented to the highest fundraised for the 2023 ride.

Additionally in our 10th year, we are thrilled to strengthen our relationship further by becoming an official clothing partner of the DGR, with an all-new limited edition range of lifestyle clothing to celebrate the DGR, created to raise additional funds for men’s health.

The entire Triumph community, from our network of dealers and fans across the world, to our staff, designers and engineers are committed to continue to grow the reach and impact of the DGR in support of this incredible cause for good.

Together we will make 2023 the biggest and most successful DGR yet.

DGR founder Mark Hawwa
“If anyone had said 10 years ago that we’d be celebrating a decade of partnership with Triumph Motorcycles, I would have laughed. That first year of signing with Triumph has always been a highlight for me. It felt exciting, and that excitement still carries on every year. Triumph has become like a family to me and to The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. They are passionate about getting classic styled bikes out for a ride and using the machines we love to make a positive impact for our cause. That excitement and passion has now been brought together in a product that speaks to our journey together. We are beyond proud to release the Bonneville T120 Black Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride Limited Edition motorcycle, to celebrate what we have achieved together, and to continue doing more of what we love.”

TRIUMPH Chief Commercial Officer Paul Stroud
“We are delighted to be celebrating the 10th-year anniversary of our unique relationship with the DGR, which is an incredibly important partnership for Triumph and the thousands of Triumph DGR fans across the world. From the beginning it was clear that the DGR and Triumph was a perfect fit, with a shared passion for motorcycles, style and riding for the people you love, something that is much more than sponsorship. Everyone involved over the last decade of the DGR, from the Triumph and DGR teams, to our dealers, the army of DGR organisers and ride hosts, and the legions of riders who passionately support this wonderful event and cause should be justifiably proud of the impact their efforts have had. With the launch of the new DGR edition of our Bonneville T120 Black our ambition is to mark this wonderful occasion with something truly special, that for me epitomises the spirit of the DGR and delivers a new way to delight riders and celebrate this incredible cause.

THE BONNEVILLE T120 BLACK – TIMELESS, CAPABLE, BEAUTIFUL
Significantly updated in 2021, the definitive British motorcycle icon takes its torque-rich 1200cc twin performance, sophisticated set up and beautiful Bonneville DNA to an all-new level, setting a new benchmark for timeless character and easy riding capability. With a significantly enhanced handling set-up, courtesy of a major 7kg weight saving over the previous generation, new lightweight aluminium wheel rims and new higher specification Brembo brakes, plus new rider technology, including cruise control and enhanced riding modes and an even more responsive throttle, the Bonneville legend continues.

Engine and performance
The engine of the T120 Black is Triumph’s signature 1200cc, high-torque British twin, which has been developed for an even better riding experience. The latest-generation T120’s engine mass has been reduced significantly through the use of a lighter crankshaft. Together with an optimised clutch and balancer shafts this has also reduced inertia, which provides the new generation with a notably more immediate and responsive throttle. The T120 has been specifically tuned to deliver high torque, from low down in the rev range all the way through the mid-range, giving exhilarating performance throughout.  The 1200 twin engine delivers 105 Nm of peak torque at a very low 3500 rpm and its power peaks 80 PS at 6,550 rpm. With its sensitively designed liquid cooling system, the engine exceeds EURO 5 requirements, giving lower emissions than the previous generation and excellent fuel economy.

The T120 Black comes with a very high service interval of 10,000 miles or 16,000 kilometres helping to keep the ongoing cost of ownership low.

Handling
The trademark confidence-inspiring ride of the T120 has been enhanced with a 7kg weight saving over the previous generation. The aluminium wheel rims (18’’ X 2.75’’ on the front and 17’’ X 4.25’’ on the rear) give a major reduction in unsprung weight and inertia, making the new T120 more agile and manoeuvrable when riding, and also when you’re moving the bike around at standstill.

The braking system has high specification Brembo front brakes, with a twin disc set-up and 2 piston sliding calipers giving excellent stopping power and improved feel. Safety and control have also been maximised thanks to Triumph’s latest generation ABS and switchable traction control.

The combination of weight saving, new wheels and higher specification brake set-up makes the latest-generation T120 the best handling Bonneville T120 ever.

Rider Technology
The Bonneville T120 Black comes high specification technology, with cruise control fitted as standard along with enhanced riding modes.

The cruise control is set via a dedicated button on the handlebar, making it extremely user friendly for the rider as well as the selection of the riding modes. The rider can select between the Rain and Road riding modes, which will adapt the behaviour of the bike to the riding conditions.

Other high spec rider focussed technology fitted as standard include a torque-assist clutch, which reduces rider fatigue in heavy traffic or on longer journeys, an engine immobiliser incorporated into the key, a handy under-seat USB charging socket and internal wiring ready to plug in the accessory fit heated grips.

The headlight incorporates a distinctive LED daytime running light, where market legislation permits, which makes it easier for the bike to seen by other road users.

Style
The unmistakeable Bonneville silhouette is enhanced by touches that blend the T120’s iconic style with Triumph’s latest premium features.

The twin clock set-up has a premium 3D dial face with Bonneville branding and traditional typeface and colours.  The multi-functional digital display provides the rider with all necessary information, such as riding mode settings, cruise control status, gear position indicator and much more, and it is all controlled through the intuitive and easily accessible scroll button mounted on the handlebar.

The iconic sculpted Bonneville tank with knee pads carries a 3-bar heritage chromed metal badge, adding a distinctive styling touch to the already unmistakeable T120 design.

The mean and moody Bonneville T120 Black features a host of premium blacked-out styling details and components, including wheel rims, grab rail, engine covers, mirrors, headlamp bezel, indicators, and exhaust.

And more than 100 genuine Triumph accessories are available for the T120 range, enabling riders to personalise their motorcycles.

Honda Six – Recreating A Masterpiece

New book tells the story of a motorcycle legend reborn

One of the greatest engineering journeys in motorcycle Grand Prix history is told in George Beale’s much-awaited coffee table book ‘Honda Six – Recreating a Masterpiece’.

The Honda Six was a wildly successful race bike built by Honda in the Sixties, equipped with a 250-cc inline-six making 65 horsepower, capable of revving to almost 20,000 rpm. It was quick enough to propel rider Mike Hailwood to three world championships on Honda Six machinery ….250cc in 1966 and then the double 250cc and 350cc in 1967 when the RC174 was introduced.
George Beale is a world-renowned specialist in classic motorcycles. He was the owner biggest private European racing team 1978—81; Vice Chairman Motorcycle Racing Sponsors Association 1977—80; British Team manager AGV Nations cup series 1979—80; consigned the highest priced Brough Superior SS 100 sold at auction Worldwide – £425.500.

Video of the Honda Six built by George in action:

The book contains interviews with key figures from the story like Jim Redman, who made history by riding the first Honda Six, Stuart Graham who partnered Mike Hailwood on the Six and features company founder Soichiro Honda’s obsession to conquer the two-stroke threat posed by Yamaha.

That dream was ultimately delivered by Hailwood and the book features a gallery and overview of his significant role in the engineering masterpiece.

PACEMAKER, BELFAST, 9/7/2017: Guy Martin on the 297cc RC174 Honda 6 at Castle Combe Grand National where he rode the bike in a Mike Hailwood tribute lap.

Also featured are interviews with some of the biggest names in racing across the generations, like Guy Martin, John McGuinness, Stuart Graham and Michael Rutter, who have joined the privileged riders’ club since the rebirth of the Six.

The book documents the fascinating 25-year project by George to build 10 replicas of what is universally acknowledged as the greatest racing machine ever created, the 297 RC174 Honda Six.

This luxurious 236-page book, containing almost 300 photographs, tells the story of how the Honda Motor Company authorised George to recreate the iconic six-cylinder marvel using an original machine from Japan to draw and re-cast the complex power unit and chassis, culminating in the most elite classic motorcycle owners’ list in the world.

George Beale demonstrates the Honda Six replica aided by Japanese collector
Terry Murayama, whose original 297 was used in the project.

The book charts the evolution of Honda racing machines over their sensational nine-year journey from novices to all-conquering world champions before their withdrawal from the sport after their golden era.

And on the back of this compelling history, George describes his amazing quest to produce the ultimate classic replica.

The foreword is written by Gerald Davison former Director of the Honda International Racing Corporation whose close relationship with both the company founder and lead designer spans these two fascinating periods in the company’s racing history.

The beautiful lines of replica No:1 captured in front of the unmistakable Dunlop Bridge backdrop at Donington Park.

To order a copy of the book:

Copies of this must-have collector’s item, at £70 including UK postage and packaging, are available from Charterhouse Auctioneers and Valuers from Monday, April 3.

Suzuki launches Service Activated Warranty

Suzuki has launched a new Service Activated Warranty, which extends a motorcycle’s warranty period after the initial three years through regular servicing at authorised Suzuki dealerships.

The Service Activated Warranty is offered once the motorcycle reaches the end of its manufacturer warranty period of three years, and is booked in for its next scheduled service within the Suzuki Dealer network. This warranty then stays in place until the next qualifying service. It is then simply renewed again, up to a maximum vehicle age of seven years or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The Service Activated Warranty is offered to customers completely free of charge.

All major components are covered, and should the machine be sold between services and within the seven-year qualifying period, the warranty will simply be transferred to the new owner.

The Service Activity Warranty can also be enjoyed by owners of secondhand machines, even if any original warranty has expired and if there is a gap in the service history. Providing the new owner has their motorcycle serviced at a Suzuki dealership and goes through a Suzuki Motorcycle Health Check in the first instance, it will benefit from a fresh, one-year warranty.

For these customers, the Service Activated Warranty will begin 30 days from the date the authorised Suzuki Dealer service has been completed.

Denis Houston, Director Aftersales at Suzuki GB, said, “At Suzuki, customer experience and retention are paramount, the launch of Service Activated Warranty will certainly enhance this for the future, ensuring our customers get the best levels of service, fitment of genuine parts and avail of the expertise within our dealer network rather than going to a non-franchised repairer once their manufacturer warranty expires. Offering Service Activated Warranty is free of charge to owners, is unique, and we are very proud to offer this as a strong message in support of our customers.”

Ago’s British track career documented in new book

Celebrating the great Giacomo Agostini, winner of 122 motorcycling Grands Prix on his way to 15 world titles, Agostini: On the British Circuits by The Classic MotorCycle editor James Robinson, is a stunning collection of period photographs which captures him in action on racetracks in Britain.

Collated using images from the world-leading Mortons Archive, incorporating the Nick Nicholls collection, this book focuses not on Agostini’s worldwide GP achievements, but looks instead at what happened when he came to the British circuits and raced – not only the TT and Ulster GPs, but the circuits up and down the country.

From the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s, Agostini, or ‘Ago’ to motorcyclists worldwide, was the poster boy of two-wheeled sport, his winning combination of bravery, skill, and style on the machine, coupled with film star good looks off it, leading to huge fame.

Ago and the MV were unassailable for years on end, but arguably the Italian’s greatest achievements came when he fled the comfy nest of the MV camp to sign for Yamaha.

Critics and doubters were quickly silenced as he claimed two world titles for the Japanese firm, including its (and Japan’s) first blue riband 500cc title.

British race fans flocked to see the great man in action when visiting the circuits and he generally didn’t disappoint, racking up wins across the country.

Agostini: On the British Circuits is available to order for £9.99 via www.mortonsbooks.co.uk.

Hailwood’s 1960 Grand Prix Ducati In Bumper Stafford Sale

Mike’s Bike On Start Line At Bonhams – Hailwood’s 1960 Grand Prix Ducati In Bumper Stafford Sale.

A rare 1960 Ducati works racing motorcycle – newly identified as the actual motorcycle campaigned by future Motorcycling World Champion Mike ‘The Bike’ Hailwood, is one of the stars of Bonhams’ bumper Spring Stafford Sale on 22-23 April.

The 1960 Ducati 125cc Desmodromic ‘Barcone’ Grand Prix Racing Motorcycle, estimate £95,000-120,000, was one of only four such machines produced for that year’s racing season. The quartet featured the final evolution of chief engineer Fabio Taglioni’s famous desmodronic (positive closure) valve technology introduced in the late 1950s. The resulting higher revs and increased power afforded many victories in period for the Mercedes-Benz’s successful racing SLRs and for Ducati, which still uses the system today.

The ex-Mike Hailwood 1960 Ducati 125cc Desmodromic ‘Barcone’ Grand Prix Racing Motorcycle,
estimate £95,000-120,000

This machine, the very first Barcone single ‘D1’, was acquired direct from the Ducati factory by Mike’s father, Stan, who was then Ducati’s distributor in the UK. The Barcone, or Barge, was distinguished by a boat-like crankcase with a narrow, finless sump and an integral six-speed gearbox, the cylinder still inclined forward. Hailwood’s Écurie Sportive team installed a taller fuel tank and thickly padded seat, and he immediately won nine 125 races with the bike, with further victories later in the season, including at Oulton Park, becoming winner of that year’s British 125cc Championship.

After Mike had signed with Honda, the Ducati was sold in 1961 and passed through various well-known collectors until acquired in the 1980s by the late Captain Ivan Forshaw, the renowned Lagonda and Aston Martin specialist. Also a motorcycle enthusiast, Captain Forshaw and his son Richard amassed the collection of British speedway motorcycles sold by Bonhams last year.

The Ducati was bought as a works racing motorcycle, but its full provenance was unknown until it was recently identified as Mike Hailwood’s machine by Ducati authority Ian Falloon. It is offered in ‘as found’ condition.

Ben Walker, Global Head of Bonhams Motorcycles, said: “This extraordinary discovery is fantastic news. The Ducati offers its successful buyer the unrepeatable opportunity to carefully preserve and conserve a significant piece of the legendary Mike Hailwood’s history.”

The Ducati will take its place on the Bonhams start line at Stafford with a host of racing motorcycles, ridden by some of the most respected riders, from every era and a range of disciplines, including:

The ex-Jim Redman MBE, works, 1963 Honda 247cc CR72 Racing Motorcycle,
estimate £120,000-150,000

The ex-Jim Redman MBE, works, 1963 Honda 247cc CR72 Racing Motorcycle, estimate £120,000-150,000. Ridden throughout Rhodesia in the 1960s by six-times world Champion Jim Redman along with fellow countryman and Grand Prix racer Bruce Beale, it has more recently been campaigned by him in classic events including Imatra and Essen, following a comprehensive 30-year restoration. Accompanied by a letter of confirmation from Jim Redman.

The ex-Peter Hickman, FHO Racing, Isle of Man Superbike TT and Senior TT-winning, 2022 BMW M1000RR Superbike, estimate £80,000-100,000

The ex-Peter Hickman, FHO Racing, Isle of Man Superbike TT and Senior TT-winning, 2022 BMW M1000RR Superbike, estimate £80,000-100,000. Carrying Peter Hickman to victory in last year’s Isle of Man Superbike and Senior TT Race, this is the first reigning Isle of Man TT Champion motorcycle to cross an auction block. The motorcycle is offered exactly as it crossed the finish line of the world’s largest road race finale, the blue riband Senior TT, complete with its original race winning fairing, speckled with flies from the gruelling 228-mile race.

The Dave Degens collection

The Dave Degens Collection

Endurance racer and leading bespoke motorcycle builder, Dave Degens is credited with popularising the Triton Triumph/Norton hybrid of the 1960s, building his own versions under the name Dresda. This collection of 11 motorcycles is led by the 1965 Barcelona 24 Hours-winning, 1965 Dresda Triton 650cc Racing Motorcycle, £20,000 – £30,000. Hand-built by Dave, it was raced to victory by him and Rex Butcher in the 1965 endurance race, against the combined might of the rival factory teams and is considered as the machine that started the Dresda legend.

The New Ducati Scrambler on Tour in UK Ducati Dealerships

Next Gen Freedom: the new Ducati Scrambler on tour in UK Ducati dealerships.

The Next Gen Freedom Ducati Scrambler arrives on tour at Ducati Stores. From 29 March until 5 May it will be possible to see the new Ducati Scrambler range, presented as the seventh episode of Ducati World Première 2023, live. Icon, Full Throttle and Nightshift will be the protagonists of a 16-stop tour that will touch a selection of UK dealers after their debut at Motorcycle Live last November. The bikes will be on display and demo rides can be booked on site.

The new Ducati Scrambler is the perfect choice for those who want a motorcycle with a unique and recognisable style, dynamic and fun, accessible and safe for everyday use. A motorbike designed for those who seek freedom and wish to share their style and way of being with others.

The second generation confirms the simplicity and authenticity that have always represented essential values for all Ducati Scrambler enthusiasts. Air-cooled Desmodue twin-cylinder engine, trellis frame, wide handlebars, low centre of gravity and riding fun are enhanced by advanced electronics and a more modern styling.

The result of this recipe are three Ducati Scrambler models: Icon, Full Throttle and Nightshift. Three motorbikes with different styling, united by a relaxed riding position and low weight, to offer enthusiasts of all experience and abilities great riding pleasure, both in the city and on out-of-town trips.

The customisation concept, which has always been a distinguishing feature of the Ducati Scrambler, goes even further with this second generation thanks to the new Icon tank. The coloured portion is a cover that can be replaced, as can the mudguards, wheel tags and small front headlight covers. Thus the look of the Ducati Scrambler can be adapted to all tastes with great ease. In fact, the three standard colours (’62 Yellow, Thrilling Black and Ducati Red) are joined by a further six, available as accessory kits, to dress up the new Ducati Scrambler Icon in nine different liveries.

A GIVI For Every Personality

GIVI’s latest full face helmets, the 50.8 and 50.9, feature a wide range of graphics and colours.

Safety, comfort and style are within reach for every motorcyclist thanks to GIVI and its new models. With ECE 22-06 approval, the 50.8 and 50.9 offer users all the protection they need on their journeys, whatever their style. Since its launch last year, the Italian brand’s graphics team hasn’t stopped working, and can therefore offer numerous options for those who prefer the classic style as well as those who are open to riding with striking and different designs.

GIVI, the transalpine firm specializing in motorbike and motorcyclist equipment, has been designing and producing top level, innovative, comfortable and highly safe helmets for more than 20 years. An example of its constant evolution in these two decades of work are its latest full-face models, the 50.8 and 50.9, two sport touring helmets, which feature a technopolymer shell in three sizes, micrometric closure and ECE 22-06 homologation, the most recent and demanding to date. One of their main features, and a strong point for users, is the good ventilation offered by both models, with three air intakes (two on the upper part and one on the chin) and two rear extractors. And with the incorporation of retractable sunglasses to avoid glare from the sun, safety and comfort are more than guaranteed.

What’s more, GIVI has unveiled different graphics and plain colours, so there’s an option for every personality, which accommodates all users in the market.

CLASSIC AND ELEGANT
The graphics which often work best are the simplest, like those which use a solid colour throughout the helmet – a versatile and restrained option that is still the main choice of many motorcyclists. For them, GIVI has the 50.9 Solid Color in black, available in sizes XS to XXL for £186.90, and the 50.8 Solid Color in white, available in the same sizes for £158.90.

A SPORTY TOUCH
Here is another classic, but in this case much more eye-catching. With geometric lines and powerful colours, the racing style graphics are still a favourite for a large part of the market. And the Italian brand has developed different designs and colour combinations for these two helmets precisely for that reason. For a start, the 50.8 is available in the versions RACER (black, grey and fluorescent yellow), in sizes XS to XXL; BRAVE (black, grey and red), in the same sizes; BRAVE LADY (black, grey and pink), from XS to L; and the newest model, the MACH1, which presents a combination of white, black, red and different shades of blue (available from size XS to XXL. All of them can be acquired for £167.90.

Then the GIVI 50.9 helmet is available in the ATOMIC and ATOMIC LADYversions. The former also combines the colours white, black, red and blue and is available in sizes XS to XXL, for £193.90. The women’s version plays with grey, silver, black and pink and is available in sizes XS to L.

DARING DESIGNS
The latest 50.9 graphic, one of the main new features for 2023, is especially designed for riders who enjoy catching the attention of those they pass on the street. It’s also a perfect fit for those who venture out of the traditional and more usual designs, preferring a new and groundbreaking colour combination. This new design comes under the name ENIGMA, which features daring prints, geometric lines and with the colours black, grey, fuchsia pink and light blue, results in an original, different and fun model. It’s available for £193.90, in sizes XS to XXL.

These, and many more GIVI items, provide a boost for motorcycle trips and make any journey on two wheels a more comfortable experience. For more information about this product or any other accessories for your motorcycle visit www.givi.co.uk or call 01327 706220.

Weise Drift Laminated Urban Jacket

AA-rated, laminated textile riding jacket with detachable hood.

Combining the look and feel of high street fashion with the protection from impacts and the elements expected from a premium motorcycle jacket, the new Weise Drift is a smart choice for urban rides and city commutes.

Free from branding, bright colours and graphics, the Drift looks equally at home on the high street as it does on the open road, and thanks to a waterproof and breathable membrane laminated to the outer shell, it offers maximum weather protection too.

This not only stops rain getting in – whilst letting perspiration out – the laminated construction also prevents waterlogging, keeping the Drift light and flexible.

A removable 100gsm quilted thermal liner insulates on colder days and there’s a handy detachable hood for use off the bike.

For peace of mind on the road, the Drift is AA-rated for protection and comes with CE-approved armour at shoulders and elbows, plus a back protector as standard. Reflective piping across the back increases visibility in low light.

There are two outer pockets, a handy one inside that is ideal for a smartphone, and a zipped pocket on the left cuff that’s perfect for stashing a bike key / fob, or a bank card for quick and easy fuel stops.

The Drift retails at £199.99 including VAT and comes in sizes S-5XL in Black.
