Diavel V4: more grunt and style thanks to Ducati Performance accessories

The Diavel V4, star of the sixth episode of the Ducati World Première 2023, shows itself dressed in the Style, Sport and Touring packages.

Three proposals designed to enhance the different souls of the Ducati muscle cruiser.

With its refined style and muscular and elegant lines, the new Ducati Diavel V4 is in fact the perfect synthesis between a maxi sport naked and a muscle cruiser, as powerful in its design as it is effective and comfortable to ride, capable of winning over riders with its agilitỳ and manoeuvrability, but also for its marked aptitude for medium range touring thanks to its great comfort for rider and passenger.

The Sport package includes a selection of accessories designed to enhance the powerful and muscular character of the Diavel V4. The billet aluminium tank cap retains its original appearance over time thanks to high-quality anodising and is equipped with an anti-tampering system with a key bearing the Ducati shield to guarantee the perfect combination of security, functionality and style.

The carbon fibre of the front mudguard and tank cover, together with the street-legal exhaust cover that completes the equipment, are details that enhance the contemporary elegance of this muscle cruiser. The Diavel V4 is then further enhanced by the Style package, consisting of carbon fibre rear mudguard and a series of Ducati by Rizoma accessories such as levers, mirrors, brake and clutch fluid reservoir covers and oil filler cap in billet aluminium.

Finally, the gritty red- or black-coloured front brake calipers are of great impact. Created in collaboration with Brembo, they retain the braking characteristics of the standard ones but are finished with a special paint that is resistant to high temperatures. Character, quality and care for design come together in the ideal accessory to make the bike even more iconic.

The Touring package, on the other hand, is dedicated to Ducatisti who want to savour the taste of the journey in the saddle of the Diavel V4. A set of heated grips, pair of semi-rigid side bags and rear passenger backrest maximise comfort, leaving rider and passenger free to enjoy every curve and every sight throughout the journey. In particular, the side cases mount on integrated attachments, preserving the aesthetics and stylistic cleanliness of the Diavel, and can become waterproof by applying the appropriate cover.

The forged aluminium wheels, characterised by an ultra-modern design and an elegant and refined finish, enhance both the aesthetics and the dynamics of the Diavel V4. The forging process gives lightness and agility to sculptural and muscular forms. The dimensions correspond to the standard ones, i.e. 3.50 “x17” and 8.00 “x17”.

The entire range of accessories is available on Ducati.com, where through the “Configurator” section it will be possible for all Ducatisti to choose their favourite accessories to make their Diavel V4 unique and share them with their nearest dealer.

Triumph Motorcycles’ TE-1 Wins “Electric Motorbike of The Year”

Triumph Motorcycles’ TE-1 Wins “Electric Motorbike of The Year” AT GQ Car Awards.

Triumph Motorcycles’ prototype TE-1 has won the “Electric Motorbike of the Year” award at the 2023 GQ Car Awards.

Paul Henderson, one of the judges said: “With a 0–60mph time of 3.6 seconds, top speed of 135mph, a 100-mile range on a single charge, and a 0-to-80 per cent charge time of just 20 minutes, Triumph’s first fully electric prototype has exceeded all expectations to set new standards in the sector. Triumph says they have no plans to put the TE-1 into production, but the technological advances, battery development and electronic breakthroughs will all feature in the British motorcycle brand’s next gen (or should that be first gen) production EV. In other words, the best is yet to come.”

Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer at Triumph Motorcycles, said: “We are delighted to have our efforts in developing an exciting, high performance electric motorcycle recognised at the GQ Car Awards. There are significant challenges in bringing electric motorcycles to the mass market, but the TE-1 is a crucial step towards Triumph’s development and understanding of electric vehicle technology.” The bike is a product of a unique collaboration between Triumph Motorcycles, Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd, and WMG at the University of Warwick – and was funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles through Innovate UK. It was set up to serve as an educational tool to allow Triumph to research into potential future electric motorcycles. TE-1 underwent four phases in its two-year development, reaching completion in July 2022.

With a throttle action and torque delivery map directly engineered from a Speed Triple 1200 RS, the track testing and dynamic rider assessments of the TE-1 prototype demonstrator deliver a level of handling that matches Triumph’s current triple cylinder internal combustion sports performance motorcycles.

Daytona 200 champion racer Brandon Paasch participated in the final testing phase, both in engine performance evaluation and also with the final set-up of the prototype through track testing. “The throttle response on the TE-1 is kind of incredible, it’s very torquey and when you first touch the throttle it’s instant power, which is obviously what I love as a motorcycle racer – I love when it’s super-torquey and picks up right away, so for me it was a really great experience” said Brandon. “I got to peg this thing all the way from zero to 100% throttle and it’s unbelievably quick, it pulls like crazy.”

BMW Motorrad presents the R 18 IRON ANNIE

R 18 custom bike from BMW partner VTR Motorrad AG & VTR Customs in aviation style.

The old “Aunt Ju” Junkers Ju 52, the legendary three-engine commercial and transport aircraft from the 1930s, is still familiar to many people. The Ju 52 with the aircraft registration D-AQUI in the Lufthansa colour scheme grey-black from 1936 became particularly well known worldwide. During its time in the USA from 1970 to 1984 under the American aircraft registration N52JU, it was christened “IRON ANNIE” for short by its then owner Martin Caidin.

It was precisely this aircraft that inspired a customer of BMW partner VTR Motorrad AG & VTR Customs in Schmerikon, Switzerland, to create a very special customized version of the BMW R 18 – the R 18 “IRON ANNIE”. Years before, the architect had already had an individual R nineT built entirely according to his ideas at VTR Customs and this time, too, aviation style elements from aircraft construction were to be used.

For example, the dial of the speedometer integrated into the tank, which is intended to be reminiscent of old cockpit instruments, or access panels with quick-release fasteners, as found on many aircraft. And of course, it was imperative to borrow from the Ju 52’s characteristic corrugated aluminium planking. At the same time, the seat was to be reminiscent of a riding saddle and, of course, only the “IRON ANNIE” colour scheme in grey and black was to be used for the paintwork.

A BMW R 18 First Edition served as the starting point for the customizing project. First the engine was removed and painted black. All chrome parts were painted black and the fork stanchions also received a black coating in the form of a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coat.

The cockpit trim was pulled back as narrow and flat as possible to emphasise the streamlined shape. The 7 cm shorter fork and a height-adjustable Wilbers shock absorber emphasise the crouched stance of the motorcycle. “To make the bike look smaller and give it a more filigree appearance between the wheels, we had large 18 and 21 inch wheels made by Kineo,” adds Daniel Weidmann, Owner & Managing Director of VTR Motorrad & VTR Customs.

As a further technical treat, racing-style HC3 pumps from Magura were fitted in place of the standard R 18 brake and clutch fittings. The dial of the customized speedometer also received a hand specially made by watchmaker Zeitzone Zurich.

“One of the big challenges with the R 18 IRON ANNIE was the replica cooling fins in the area of the rear silencers. Shaping these parts into parallel and beautiful radii and at the same time still fastening them harmoniously took a number of attempts,” says Daniel Weidmann about the aluminium sheet metal work. This consumed countless hours of work, as the fuel tank, the tail with the suggested tail fin of an aeroplane, the side panels and the cockpit were artfully hand-formed from aluminium sheet. Reminiscences of traditional metal aircraft construction are also provided by the numerous lens-head rivets.

“What almost pained us a little when we saw all the handmade, bright aluminium sheets shimmering and shining was that they would have to be painted. However, we are extremely satisfied with the result because the R 18 IRON ANNIE differs even more clearly from our well-known SPITFIRE, which is also designed in aviation style,” Daniel Weidmann continues.

The R 18 IRON ANNIE will receive road approval and is sure to turn quite a few heads in its new home on Lake Geneva. It will remain a unique model as promised to the customer.

BMW R 18 IRON ANNIE by VTR Customs specifications:

  • Base: BMW R 18 First Edition.
  • Sheet metal parts: Fuel tank, rear, side panels, cockpit, mudguard, Aluminium handmade by VTR Customs.
  • Fork: shortened and DLC-coated stanchions.
  • Suspension strut: Wilbers, height adjustable.
  • Wheels: Kineo front 3.5 x 21″, rear 6 x18″.

London Motorcycle Show Welcomes Thousands Of Fans

Devitt Insurance MCN London Motorcycle Show Welcomes Thousands Of Fans.

This weekend, 32,399 motorcycle fans, an increase on last year, descended on the Capital to celebrate the very best of two wheels at the Devitt Insurance MCN London Motorcycle Show. Alongside 15 of the world’s leading manufacturers showcasing the latest in new metal, visitors were treated to an explosion of noise, with the world’s first indoor Supersprint taking over the centre of the Show.

London’s Docklands came alive with the sights and sounds of two wheels over the weekend for the annual Devitt Insurance MCN London Motorcycle Show. Often seen as the event to kick-start the riding season, the Show had a fresh look for 2023, welcoming Devitt Insurance as the title sponsor and introducing a brand new live-action show with the world’s first indoor Supersprint. The three-day event saw 32,399 visitors pass through the doors, an increase compared to the 2022 show.

Taking over the centre of the Show, the Supersprint saw a host of iconic machinery, including Barry Sheene’s World-Championship winning Suzuki, Peter Hickman’s 2023 British Superbike, Honda’s MotoGP-derived RC213V-S, the BMW F900 R Cup bikes and the Triumph Scrambler’s from the James Bond film ‘No Time To Die’ roar down the strip in a high-speed explosion of noise. Leading the way in each race were Isle of Man TT legends Peter Hickman and John McGuinness, who also spent time catching up with visitors and signing autographs.

One of the major attractions was the latest ‘new metal’ from 15 of the world’s leading manufacturers. BMW, BSA, CCM, Ducati, Harley Davidson, Indian, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco, Norton, Royal Enfield, Segway, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha were in attendance, showcasing some stunning machines, including the UK debut of several bikes such as the KTM 790 Adventure and 890 Adventure, Kymco AK 550 Premium and the first-ever Segway electric scooters.

BMW Motorrad UK National Marketing and PR Manager Scott Grimsdall said, “The London Motorcycle Show is always a great way to kick off the year, and particularly encouraging to talk to so many riders new to motorcycling. The new Supersprint show added another level of excitement, particularly for some of our keen F 900 R Cup racers.”

With London being the ideal location for electric machines, many manufacturers used the Show to exhibit their revolutionary bikes, including Kawasaki’s Ninja EV, BMW CE04 and the Sur-Ron range. Yamaha also gave visitors a chance to experience electric power with the Neo Scooter Experience.

There was plenty on offer for race fans, with the Manx Grand Prix starting their centenary celebrations at the Show. Alongside a collection of race machines, stars such as Lee Johnston, Dominic Herbertson, Stephen Smith, and McGuinness were around to spend time with visitors and tell tales from the incredible Isle of Man.

For those eager to explore the world, the Adventure Zone sponsored by Caberg proved a popular spot, with the stage hosting an array of talks from some of the most intrepid explorers of recent years, including Austin Vince, Elspeth Beard and Vanessa Ruck. Visitors were also able to grab a bargain from many of the industry’s leading brands, with Roadskin Owner Nicky Wilson saying, “It’s been a phenomenal show for us, by far the best show we’ve ever had at the Excel. We’ve sold out completely of several Roadskin lines, which we didn’t anticipate, and we have been fully rushed off our feet all weekend!”

On Saturday, Silverstone Auctions gave visitors the opportunity to secure some incredibly rare machines, with just under 150 motorcycles going under the hammer, with a sale rate of 80%. Everything from pre-war machines to modern classics were up for sale, with over £850,000 in sales being generated. Highlights included a 1995 Ducati Senna 1 916cc (sold for £38,250), a 1982 Kawasaki Z1000J2 998cc (sold for £16,875) and a 1994 Ducati 888 Corse 926cc (sold for £47,250).

Speaking after a successful first title sponsorship of the show, Tom Warsop, Marketing Director of Devitt Insurance, said: “We’ve had a great show talking to so many fully engaged bikers from all over the country about their machines and situations. We’ve brought a selection of diverse exhibits that generated massive attention, including the first showing of the CAKE electric model, one-off customs, our Devitt Flat Track racers and our supported Paul Milbourn land speed record machine. The Supersprint has been really exciting for visitors, and the whole event has had a real buzz about it!”

Hickman’s 2022 Isle Of Man TT-winning BMW Kick Starts Bonhams Stafford Sale

A Reigning Isle of Man TT Champion Motorcycle Offered for First Time at Auction.

Bonhams : The Spring Stafford Sale – The International Classic MotorCycle Show

The reigning Isle of Man TT Champion motorcycle will cross an auction block for the very first time when the Gas Monkey BMW by FHO Racing, 2022 BMW M 1000 RR Superbike, ridden to victory by Peter Hickman in last year’s Superbike and Senior TT Race is offered in Bonhams Spring Stafford Sale on 22-23 April. It has an estimate of £80,000-100,000.

The champion motorcycle is offered exactly as it crossed the finish line of the world’s largest road race finale, the blue riband Senior TT, 16.9 seconds ahead of nearest rival Dean Harrison’s Kawasaki, complete with its original race winning fairing, speckled with flies from the gruelling 228-mile race.

The motorcycle is a one-off version of the BMW M 1000 RR Superbike, run last season by the Lincolnshire-based team, which has been campaigning BMW Motorrad’s first M model since it was introduced in 2021. Loosely based on the production superbike, this TT machine is the full-factory version designed specifically for the TT Superbike and Senior races’ challenging 37.73-mile mountain road course.

The Superbike’s bespoke specification includes a strengthened blank braced frame direct from BMW, BMW factory Type 7.1 engine, Brembo discs and calipers, Öhlins forks and damper and the Dunlop tyres used for the Senior TT race. The machine still has its ‘Parc Fermé’ band on the top yoke and its ‘warhorse’ Senior TT winning fairing – in immediate post-race condition.

Gas Monkey Garage by FHO Racing

Dave Hancock, Bonhams Motorcycle Consultant, said: “This is a very special motorcycle. It’s survived 12 laps over two races of the world’s most challenging and infamous road circuits – more than 450 miles at an average speed of more than 130mph. It’s the closest you’d get to buying an active racing machine – an absolute rarity.”

With his Superbike and Senior TT victories last June, Hickman became the fourth rider in TT history to win four races in a week – bringing his tally of wins to date on the island to nine. The result also won him the coveted Joey Dunlop TT Championship with 111 points. He was also the outright fastest lap record holder of the event – therefore the fastest man on the Isle of Man – having clocked an average speed of 133.461 mph on this machine in the Superbike TT.

The machine is being offered direct from the FHO Racing BMW team. Founded in 2021 by team owner and principal Faye Ho, the British Superbike team made its successful debut in TT racing last year.

Gas Monkey Garage by FHO Racing

James Stensel, Head of Bonhams Motorcycles UK, said: “Never before has a ‘current’ TT-winning motorcycle been offered for sale at a public auction and Bonhams is especially proud to have been entrusted with finding a new custodian collector for Peter Hickman’s 2022 Isle of Man Superbike and Senior TT-winning Gas Monkey BMW by FHO Racing, 2022 M 1000 RR Superbike. This is a truly exceptional opportunity to acquire an important piece of motorcycling history.”

The historic motorcycle will be previewed on the Bonhams stand at the 17-19 February MCN London show in advance of it going under the hammer in Stafford in April.

The Bonhams Spring Stafford Sale will once again offer collector motorcycles from veterans to cutting-edge contemporary machines. One of the other many racing highlights of the sale is an incredibly rare Works Honda Racing Motorcycle, a 1963 Honda 250cc CR72 (Estimate £120,000 – 150,000). Ridden throughout Rhodesia in the 1960’s by six-times world Champion Jim Redman along with fellow countryman and Grand Prix racer Bruce Beale, it has more recently been campaigned by him in classic events including Imatra and Essen, following a comprehensive 30-year restoration.

Quick Fit Tank Bag for Ducati DesertX

High quality, clip-on / ride-off tank bag from SW-Motech for Ducati’s new DesertX adventure bike.

Compact and quick to attach and remove with the proven PRO Tank Ring system, the SW-Motech PRO Micro Tank Bag is the perfect partner for Ducati’s new DesertX.

Surprisingly spacious for its size, the PRO Micro is expandable from 3-5 litres and offers a handy spot to stash essentials like a smartphone, credit cards, change for tolls, documents and more, keeping pockets free and everything easily accessible.

The tough ballistic fabric and laminated EVA shell help the Micro keep its distinctive shape and the contents well-protected. It has a water resistant interior coating and comes with a separate rain cover for serious downpours.

Mesh compartments keep smaller items inside separated, and the large flap and glove-friendly zip pulls make access quick and easy – the zips feature a padlock loop for added security. A military-inspired MOLLE attachment system allows optional smartphone and tablet mounts to be securely fitted to the top.

Attaching and removing the Micro tank bag from the DesertX couldn’t be easier, thanks to SW-Motech’s proven PRO tank ring system. A magnetic guide, developed by Fidlock, steers the bag into position on the tank ring; the locking mechanism then clicks it firmly into place, for a fuss-free fit every time – it can even be done one-handed.

The pre-assembled top ring guide rail also allows for ergonomic adjustment of the Micro, so riders can tailor the bag’s position. SW-Motech have adapted their tank ring to suit the DesertX’s off-centre fuel filler cap, so it carries the Micro centrally and keeps the filler cap free too – the bike can be refuelled with the bag in place.

The SW-Motech PRO Micro Tank Bag retails at £112.96 including VAT and comes complete with the PRO top ring and rain cover. The PRO Tank Ring for the Ducati DesertX sells for £51.84 including VAT. Once fitted it can be used with other PRO Tank Bags.

Goodwood 75: a bumper year of celebrations ahead

History and heritage
Goodwood is proud to announce ‘Goodwood 75’, a year of celebrations across its motorsport events and venues in 2023. As well as paying tribute to the incredible history and heritage of motorsport at Goodwood, the Goodwood 75 festivities will embrace the future of motorsport, something which Goodwood has continuously championed throughout the years.

The overarching celebration is that of the Motor Circuit, which reaches its 75th anniversary in 2023. It was Squadron Leader Tony Gaze – an Australian fighter pilot who was based at RAF Westhampnett during the Second World War – who first suggested to the 9th Duke of Richmond that the airfield’s perimeter track would make an excellent race circuit. Officially opened on 18 September 1948 by the Duke and Duchess in their Bristol 400, the very first meeting was attended by 15,000 spectators, who gathered to watch the 85 drivers including Stirling Moss, who won his first ever race that day, sparking a life-long association with Goodwood.

Between 1948 and 1966 – the years celebrated by the Goodwood Revival – the Circuit hosted World Champions Jack Brabham, Jim Clark, Juan Manuel Fangio, Giuseppe Farina, Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill, Phil Hill, Denny Hulme, Jochen Rindt, Jackie Stewart and John Surtees along with a host of other stars, as Goodwood established itself as the spiritual home of British motorsport. Following the cessation of racing in 1966, some of the biggest and best-known racing teams, including Brabham, Eagle, Honda, McLaren, Toleman and Tyrrell, continued to test their cars at Goodwood.

In the early 1990s, the Earl of March (now the 11th Duke of Richmond) began looking into the possibility of reopening the Circuit. Staging an event on private roads in Goodwood Park proved slightly easier, and in 1993, the very first Festival of Speed took place. The two-day event welcomed an estimated 25,000 spectators who watched nearly 100 cars and motorcycles in action on the Hill. Competitors and attendees included Tony Brooks and Roy Salvadori who went up together in an Aston Martin DBS3, George Harrison in his Rocket sports car, Nick Mason in his V16 BRM, Gordon Murray in a McLaren F1, and John Surtees, who was an event patron and organised the motorcycle entry.

In 1998, the dream of reopening the Motor Circuit became a reality, and 50 years to the day since his grandparents had opened the track on 18 September 1948 in their Bristol 400, the Earl of March opened the inaugural Revival meeting in an identical car. 1998 also saw the launch of the Goodwood Road Racing Club – a club which today boasts over 25,000 Members and Fellows, who number among the greatest supporters and advocates of Goodwood motorsport.

In its 75 year-motorsport history, Goodwood has seen some remarkable feats of engineering and derring do: from the trailblazing drivers who raced here in the early years and the cars that tested on the Circuit; to the scintillating record-breaking run from the McMurtry Spéirling at the 2022 Festival of Speed and the pioneering use of synthetic fuels at the Revival.

2023 Celebrations

Motor Circuit
Open year-round, visitors to the Goodwood Motor Circuit will see a series of nods to the 75th anniversary. There will be a number of photo moments across the Circuit from Spring 2023, where visitors will be able to take a photo as part of our #Goodwood75 campaign and create their very own moment in history.

As the Circuit continues to evolve, we will launch our new Driving Simulator Room in spring, featuring 4 Exsim VR5 Simulators that use D Box actuator technology and custom-developed motion profiles, which allow users to take to the track for the ultimate simulator racing experience.

On Sunday 4 June, the Circuit will host the ‘75th Sunday’ Breakfast Club with a specially-curated grid of cars from the last 75 years, showcasing a unique variety of models from 1948 to 2023. Expect everything from post-war classics to the latest and greatest Supercars.

The 75th anniversary of the Circuit and 25th anniversary of the first Goodwood Revival fall on Monday 18 September 2023.

80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport
Kicking off the motorsport action in 2023, the 80th Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport (15-16 April) will honour those who made their names at the Motor Circuit with the likes of the Moss Trophy, Salvadori Cup and Tony Gaze Trophy. Honouring ‘Mr Goodwood’ himself, the Moss Trophy will see closed-cockpit GT cars and prototypes compete in the spirit of the RAC TT races of 1958-1962, while the ‘Godfather of Goodwood’ will be honoured with the Tony Gaze Trophy for GT cars that raced between 1948 and 1954.

Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard
Goodwood 75 will be the theme of the 2023 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard (13-16 July). A dedicated Goodwood 75 hillclimb batch will showcase cars and bikes from our 75-year history including The Racing Years (1948-1966), The Testing Years (post-1966), 30 Years of the Festival of Speed (1993-2023), Racing Returns (1998-2023) and The Next 75 Years.

Goodwood Revival
Celebrating the Motor Circuit’s heyday as ever, the Revival (8-10 September) will see a wonderful gathering of cars that originally competed in 1948. We have looked to our motorsport heritage when choosing our honoured driver, Carroll Shelby, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2023. Shelby took part in what is arguably the most dramatic race Goodwood has ever seen – the 1959 RAC Tourist Trophy, when Stirling Moss took over Shelby and Jack Fairman’s Aston Martin DBR1/300 after his own car caught fire in the pits, fighting back through the field to win the race and the World Sportscar Championship for Aston Martin. Lotus, which itself celebrates 75 years in 2023, will be the honoured marque at the Goodwood Revival, with a fabulous line-up of cars overseen by company founder Colin Chapman.

Goodwood Road Racing Club
In addition to an action-packed schedule of events, the Goodwood Road Racing Club will celebrate its silver jubilee with a series of photo moments for its founder members at the Festival of Speed and Revival.

Get involved – #Goodwood75
As well as attending the line-up of headline events throughout the year, fans and customers can submit their memories of Goodwood by using the hashtag #Goodwood75, which will be collated and shared on Goodwood’s social media channels and website. A special timeline detailing key moments and achievements will also be available to view at goodwood.com in the coming weeks.

Retail collection
Fans and customers will be able to take advantage of an exclusive Goodwood 75 capsule collection which launches in May and will be available from the Goodwood Shop and at shop.goodwood.com.

Speaking about the momentous year ahead, The Duke of Richmond, founder of the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to celebrate 75 years since my grandfather opened our wonderful Motor Circuit back in 1948. Today Goodwood motorsport is celebrated and cherished by millions around the world, which the whole Goodwood team are immensely proud of. We have a very special year planned for 2023 and I can’t wait to celebrate with our fans as we reflect on our history but also look ahead to the next 75 years, and beyond. I’d like to thank everyone who has been so enthusiastic and supportive and so much look forward to welcoming everyone during this special year.”

Pirelli’s 2023 motorcycle racing season is underway in the name of technological innovation

Pirelli is ready for the motorcycle challenges of its motorsport season which will kick off next week in Australia, with the first round of the FIM Superbike World Championship. For 2023, innovation and technology remain the cornerstones of the Bicocca company’s commitment to racing.

Giorgio Barbier, Pirelli Motorcycle Racing Director:
“This year we will be busy in several disciplines. Development activities will focus on the Superbike World Championship where, for the first time ever, we will introduce a front solution in the soft SC0 compound in the premier class. At the same time, we will continue to work on the extra soft SCQ rear, which has officially become part of the DIABLO Superbike range and is therefore now on sale on the market. As for the other classes, in WorldSSP we will add to the 120/70 front size, used up to now, the new larger 125/70 front size that is already available in the Superbike class, while in WorldSSP300 we will introduce, starting from the Misano round, a new benchmark set that uses renewable materials in the tyres. The goal always remains the same: to improve our tyres year after year, to then pour this know-how into road products.”

NEWS AND TARGETS FOR 2023

Competition has been part of Pirelli’s DNA for over 115 years and today there are over 100 two-wheeled championships, at international and national level, in which the Milanese company participates every year. There are several new highlights for 2023, especially within the FIM Superbike World Championship:

  • Introduction of a front SC0 soft compound

After expanding the DIABLO Superbike range in past seasons with the introduction of rear solutions in softer compounds (SCX in 2020 and SCQ in 2022), Pirelli has decided to complete the development by working on a front soft SC0 compound that is capable to balance the very high level of grip offered by the soft solutions on the rear axle. This new front solution will be offered to riders starting from the first European races and this year it will be subject to constant development in order to make it a standard solution for 2024.

  • Inclusion into the DIABLO™ Superbike range of the SCQ rear

The SCQ rear solution was made available to Superbike class riders last season. This extra soft compound has been designed to offer the highest level of grip for short distance and therefore for use mainly in qualifying. In 2022, in some cases, it was also possible to use it to cover the 10 laps of the Superpole Race as well as in some local championships. Accepting requests from customers, riders and promoters of national championships, Pirelli has decided to include it in the DIABLO™ Superbike range that is regularly on sale. Therefore, from this year it will be available to all championships, professional riders and amateurs who want to use it. At the same time, in the Superbike World Championship, Pirelli will continue to develop this product so that it guarantees greater mileage and can cover the 10 laps of the Superpole Race on all circuits.

  • New 125/70 front for WorldSSP

In the Supersport class, Pirelli will introduce the new larger size 125/70, already supplied to Superbike riders, in addition to the current 120/70 size. This will also offer WorldSSP riders a better front-to-rear axle balance.

  • New benchmark set for WorldSSP300

Starting from the fifth round, the Pirelli Emilia-Romagna round at Misano, the riders of the Supersport 300 World Championship will use a new set of DIABLO Superbike tyres, in the front SC1 and rear SC2 compounds, which uses a percentage of renewable materials to replace those of fossil origin. However, since the first round, compared to past seasons, the riders will no longer use the SC1 rear compound but the SC2.

WORLDSBK: PLATFORM OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION SINCE 20 YEARS

Pirelli’s technical partnership with the FIM Superbike World Championship represented the first example of a single tyre supply in the history of top motorsport competitions and, twenty years later, proved to have been a winning choice, as followed by other two and four wheel championships. Pirelli’s strong commitment in this championship is not only justified by the important results in terms of media visibility and brand awareness growth but above all from a technological point of view. For Pirelli two-wheel competitions represent an open-air laboratory for developing and testing, with some of the best riders, their tyres, the same ones that are then put on the market and made available to all motorcyclists around the world. Since 2004, when the Pirelli single tyre supply began in the top production bike derived championship, the Milanese company’s approach has been to remain faithful to the philosophy of the Superbike World Championship by deciding not to supply prototype solutions but normal standard tyres. And, while always remaining faithful to this philosophy over the years, Pirelli has continued to make technological innovation its workhorse by dictating, from time to time, the new parameters of the racing tyres used all over the world: first, in 2013, with the historic transition from 16.5-inch to the new 17-inch tyres, and then, starting from 2018, with the adoption of new larger sizes.

PIRELLI IN MORE THAN 100 COMPETITIONS

Faithful to the strong sporting spirit that has always characterised it as a company, this year Pirelli will participate, in some cases as sole supplier and in others in an open competition between tyre manufacturers, in over 100 of the most important international and national motorcycling competitions, both on track and off road. Among those on asphalt, in addition to the FIM Superbike World Championship, also the FIM Endurance World Championship and, at national level, the British Superbike, Italian Speed Championship (CIV), German IDM Championship and French Superbike Championship, to name just a few. The commitment in off-road competitions has also been confirmed, primarily in the FIM Motocross World Championship in which the Italian tyre company boasts a palmarès of 79 world titles and of which it will be an official tyre supplier until 2025. Then there is the FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) and AMA Supercross, as well as numerous national motocross competitions. Pirelli participates in all these championships using standard tyres, DIABLO Superbike and DIABLO Supercorsa for track and SCORPION MX in off-road competitions, all regularly on sale on the market and available to all motorcyclists

Protect Your Machine Like Never Before With All-New R&G Pro Radiator Guard

Having been protecting motorcyclists for over two decades, R&G has become synonymous with world-leading crash protection and styling accessories.

Now, the Hampshire-based brand is excited to unveil the next level in protection with its Pro range, beginning with all-new Pro Radiator Guards, Oil Cooler Guards and Downpipe Grilles.

Utilising its vast experience in racing paddocks across the globe, R&G has revamped its popular Radiator Guard range to offer motorcyclists the ultimate level of protection. These new Pro Radiator Guards are bigger, stronger and lighter, ensuring the delicate and expensive radiator remains protected from stones or debris flicked up by the front wheel.

The new Pro range features a striking geometric ‘hexa’ design that has been specifically created to maximise protection without restricting airflow or the performance of the machine. Each guard is laser-cut from a single piece of premium-grade lightweight aluminium to ensure it offers an unbeatable strength-to-weight ratio. Dunlop expands trail tyre offering with Trailmax Raid

Dunlop has revealed its new 50/50 trail tyre, Trailmax Raid. Designed for 50% on-road and 50% off-road use, the new offering is the latest addition to the brand’s strong presence in the adventure and trail segment.

Developed as a true 50/50 tyre, Trailmax Raid combines expertise and technology from Dunlop’s extensive adventure riding and touring range with that from its off-road sector. It is suitable for a wide range of bikes from mid-size dual sports to large adventure bikes, offering off-road ability and predictability paired with superb wet weather capability and long-distance touring performance.

The new tyre sits in Dunlop’s trail range alongside Trailmax Meridian, which has become a highly popular tyre for adventure touring since its release three years ago. Trailmax Meridian offers off-road capability for occasional use, whereas Trailmax Raid is designed specifically for riders who demand more regular off-road performance.

Trailmax Raid’s design was inspired by Dunlop’s D908 RR, a purely off-road rally raid tyre characterised by the pronounced blocks on its tread, which are now a key part of Trailmax Raid’s profile.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “We are excited to launch Trailmax Raid, which further strengthens our trail offering. By combining our expertise and technologies from the off-road, adventure touring and sports touring segments, we have created a true 50/50 tyre that exceeds for a wide range of bikes in varied conditions.

“Furthermore, Trailmax Raid gives riders particularly reassuring performance on wet roads, unlocking even more versatility than they might expect from a tyre that also delivers excellent off-road braking and traction.”

Trailmax Raid will be available in three front sizes covering 19 and 21-inch fitments, and six rear sizes for 17 and 18-inch wheels. Initial sizes will be available from 1 March, with the remainder being released during Q2 2023.
