The Speedshop roars into action for a series of adventures on BBC Two

The series will see former Special Forces operator Titch Cormack face a range of challenges.

The Speedshop has been a fantastic experience for the whole team – taking on projects and journeys that not only tested our mechanical skills, but pushed us into situations well outside our comfort zone. I’m immensely proud of what we achieved and lives we’ve changed over the last year. — Titch Cormack

Following a successful pilot, The Speedshop returns for 6×60 episodes with former Special Forces operator Titch Cormack designing and building bespoke motorbikes and cars from his “souped-up man-cave” on Poole’s picturesque waterfront.

This series sees Titch face a range of challenges. He’ll bring new life to broken and battered machines working alongside his two real-life friends – Billy, a mechanic and ex-Tank Regiment Commander who suffered life-changing injuries in an Afghanistan bomb attack, and engineering expert John, a former Staff Sergeant from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

The gang open the series by creating an adapted motorcycle sidecar for ex-Special Forces soldier Toby, who is paralysed from the neck down having been shot in Afghanistan. Despite needing a mechanical ventilator to breathe, he is determined to experience the joy of being back on a bike.

Later episodes see the crew explore further afield as they take on a Moroccan desert expedition with a veterans’ charity and devise an inventive solution enabling them to trek hundreds of miles across the stunning snowscapes of Iceland – on bikes!

Titch also pays tribute to the man who inspired his military career, his late grandad, Corporal William Cormack. The personal project sees him aim to ride a custom-built machine to the French beach where his grandfather landed during D-Day so he can pay tribute to the soldiers who fought so bravely during the Second World War.

Titch Cormack says: “The Speedshop has been a fantastic experience for the whole team – taking on projects and journeys that not only tested our mechanical skills, but pushed us into situations well outside our comfort zone. I’m immensely proud of what we achieved and lives we’ve changed over the last year.”

Clare Mottershead, BBC Commissioning Editor, says: “Titch and his team have infectious chemistry and a never-give-up attitude when it comes to taking on challenging builds and adventures. We’re delighted to be bringing such authentic new talent to our audiences.”

Grant Wardrop, Executive Producer from GW Productions, says: “The Speedshop has grown from humble beginnings (my kitchen table!) to something far bigger than we could have hoped for. The real-life friendships, the humour and the team’s adventurous exploits have taken the series beyond engineering and we hope straight into the hearts of BBC viewers.”

New Yamaha NEO’s electric scooter

The new generation NEO’s is Yamaha’s first “50cc equivalent” electric scooter to be launched in the European market, and has been developed to satisfy the requirements of a wide range of customers in an ever changing world.

Featuring a compact body with simple, universal and attractive styling, this new ultra-quiet zero emission model has a fresh and contemporary look that conveys its easy-to-ride character.

Yamaha developed the world’s first production eBike with the invention of the Power Assist System in the early 1990s, and since then over 7 million Yamaha eBike drive units have been sold. The new NEO’s is equipped with the latest generation Yamaha Integrated Power Unit (YIPU) that has been developed using the extensive knowledge gained by the company over the last three decades.

Powered by a removable 50.4V/19.2Ah lithium-ion battery, a hub-mounted brushless electric motor with direct drive gives quick and controllable acceleration – and the universal riding position makes this new electric scooter ideal for riders of any size and experience. Smart, simple, economical and reliable, the new NEO’s is an ideal choice for anyone who is looking for an affordable next generation electric scooter for daily commuting and general urban mobility.

Easy, quiet and accessible urban mobility for everyone
For many decades, Yamaha has been one of the most successful and respected manufacturers within Europe’s significant 50cc scooter market. Starting from the 1990s, the company has produced some of the industry’s most successful models under the Yamaha and MBK brands – including real icons like the BW’s, the Aerox and both the 2-stroke and 4-stroke versions of the NEO’s.

In parallel to its core internal combustion engine business, Yamaha has been devoting substantial research and development into electrically powered scooters for over 30 years and in 1991 the company displayed the Frog – its first electric scooter – at the Tokyo Motor Show. Since then, Yamaha has continuously worked on electric scooter development and has launched several electric models in various Asian Countries.

For 2022, the new generation electric NEO’s is Yamaha’s first “50cc equivalent” mass-produced electric scooter to be released in the European market and this affordable new zero-emissions model is ready to play its part in the transformation of urban mobility in European towns and cities.

Pure, sporty and with universal styling
The NEO’s has always been known for its simple, universal yet attractive styling and the new electric model comes with smart new bodywork with an upright style and minimal front and rear overhang to give this new scooter a distinctive character of its own.

The compact body features soft, rounded forms that enhance the relaxed feel and convey the easy-to-ride character of this ultra-quiet zero-emissions scooter. Surrounded by white rings that give a fresh, understated and contemporary look, the new full LED twin-eye headlights are inspired by the iconic face of the original NEO’s.

In addition to its aesthetically pleasing design, the NEO’s comes with practical touches that underline its role as a daily urban commuter. Not only do the rubber mouldings applied to the outline of the interior give the NEO’s a stylish external appearance, they also help to protect against minor knocks and scuffs, as well as covering various fasteners to give a sleeker finish.

The NEO’s is available in two simple and effective colours that perfectly capture its understated yet strong character: Milky White and Midnight Black. In both cases, a dedicated Aqua colour – intended to become the signature of Yamaha EV – is used as an accent on the battery cover and as the colour for the 3D NEO’s logos.

Yamaha Integrated Power Unit (YIPU) – smooth, quiet and efficient
The new NEO’s is driven by the latest generation Yamaha Integrated Power Unit (YIPU) that has been developed using the extensive knowledge gained by the company during the development of pioneering electric scooters including the Passol and EC-03 over the last three decades.

At the heart of this compact direct drive wheel hub is a newly developed air-cooled brushless electric motor that delivers high levels of torque for smooth running, strong acceleration and extremely quiet operation. A key feature of this second generation YIPU is its highly efficient gearless design that significantly reduces transmission power losses typically associated with gears and drive belts. Another significant advantage of Yamaha’s direct drive design is that it virtually eliminates mechanical noise for extremely quiet running to give a relaxing and enjoyable ride – and with fewer moving parts, running costs are kept to a minimum.

The innovative YIPU design doubles up as the rear wheel hub and incorporates the rear braking system and the unit is mounted directly to the rear wheel rim. A single sided swingarm contains the Motor Control Unit (MCU) that governs power output and the rear wheel rim can be easily removed for tyre replacement by the removal of five bolts.

Smart, simple, economical and reliable, the new NEO’s is an ideal choice for anyone who is looking for an affordable next generation zero-emissions scooter for daily commuting and general urban mobility.

Removable Yamaha lithium-ion battery
Weighing just 8 kg and located below the seat in the centre of the chassis is a 50.4V/19.2Ah lithium-ion battery that provides a high power output to the rear wheel. Developed and produced in-house by Yamaha, this high energy density battery gives a range of approximately 37 km on full charge when tested in WMTC Class 1 in STD mode and has a battery temperature of 25°C.

Supplied with one battery as standard equipment, the NEO’s is equipped with the connector and housing for an optional second battery that can extend the range to approximately 68 km.

Charging can be carried out with the battery fitted to the NEO’s or when removed for convenient indoor charging. The NEO’s is supplied with a purpose built portable battery charger designed to be plugged into a domestic socket and takes approximately 8 hours to reach full charge.

Intelligent battery and motor performance
The new NEO’s is designed to achieve optimum running efficiency in different riding conditions and is equipped with a Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) as well as a Motor Control Unit (MCU) that are designed to extract the full performance from the 50.4V/19.2Ah lithium-ion battery and the direct drive electric motor.

The VCU/MCU control when and how each battery is used. If the battery is running low, the power output will be automatically limited – indicated by the turtle icon on the dashboard. When an optional second battery is fitted, the system will switch to the second battery, either when reaching standstill during typical urban stop-and-go riding or automatically during a longer ride without stops.

Quick and controllable acceleration
The combination of a highly efficient direct drive hub-mounted electric motor and Yamaha’s high energy density 50.4V/19.2Ah lithium-ion battery deliver plenty of torque at all throttle openings for instant performance, together with outstanding standing start and roll-on acceleration. With its clutchless and gearless transmission giving smooth performance, the easy-to-ride NEO’s is an extremely efficient scooter that is ideally suited to the stop-start urban riding environment.

Yamaha has taken extra care over the controllability of the NEO’s throttle. The throttle response is carefully engineered to give the rider precise control from a standstill, as well as smooth power delivery in slow-riding conditions – without unexpected acceleration, delay or on-off reaction typical of some electric scooters.

Selectable ride modes for various riding conditions
NEO’s riders can choose from two different ride modes depending on conditions and individual preferences and it’s easy to change modes on the fly using the switch on the right handlebar. STD mode delivers the highest power output of 2.06kW @ 40 km/h and is designed for general use on average roads.

ECO mode is aimed at reducing battery consumption and is best suited to longer rides where achieving maximum range is desirable. In ECO mode, the maximum power is reduced to 1.58kW at 30 km/h and top speed is limited to 35 km/h – while power output is reduced across the entire speed range to extend battery life for a range of approximately 38.5km* on full charge.

*Yamaha research. This range changes by place, riding style and battery degradation.

Smooth, easy and quiet urban mobility
With many cities restricting or even banning combustion engines, the move towards zero-emission vehicles is gathering momentum and the launch of the affordable and accessible new NEO’s gives everyone the opportunity to benefit from smooth and quiet urban transportation.

It’s not just the absence of a combustion engine with its intake and exhaust noise that makes the NEO’s so quiet. The use of Yamaha’s innovative, direct drive hub-mounted brushless electric motor eliminates the mechanical noise associated with gears, belt drives and chains, making it exceptionally quiet.

Yamaha’s test figures show that the electric NEO’s measured 55dB from seven metres away, compared to 71dB for its combustion equivalent – making it one of the quietest vehicles on the road.

Connectivity via Yamaha’s MyRide smartphone app
NEO’s riders can stay connected when riding the new generation NEO’s by downloading Yamaha’s free MyRide app to their smartphone and pairing it with the Communication Control Unit (CCU) on the scooter by simply using a QR code or VIN number. The connected LCD instruments feature icons that display real-time notifications of incoming calls and messages from the user’s smartphone, ensuring that every NEO’s user can keep in touch with friends, family and work colleagues.

NEO’s riders can also share their riding experiences with other Yamaha MyRide users, as well as export journey information and link up with other MyRiders to view photos, compare routes and check out new places to go.

In addition to enabling connectivity, MyRide also gives the NEO’s rider access to technical and running information such as speed, acceleration, vehicle battery status, route tracking and more. The MyRide app will display charging status and the user will be able to see the charge level of the main battery and the optional second battery. A parking locator makes it easy to find the scooter and a malfunction alert lets the user know about any technical issues that may need attention.

By ensuring that every NEO’s rider can stay connected, MyRide makes this new electric scooter the ideal urban mobility solution for everyone, whether they’ve ridden a scooter before or are first time riders.

Compact and easy to read LCD instrument panel – Smart Key keyless system
In addition to the speedometer, odometer and trip and clock functions, the compact-new LCD instrumentation displays charge levels of both the main and second optional battery, as well as STD or ECO riding mode indicators and icons for smartphone app connection, missed calls and email notifications.

Charging status can be seen on the battery itself or on the meter when charging the battery and a charger connected indicator is also featured. Other features include a turtle icon for when power output is restricted, a smart key check light and a ready to ride “RUN” indicator.

The NEO’s is all about convenience and ease of use and its keyless Smart Key system enables the rider to operate the scooter simply by carrying the Smart Key in their pocket.

Comfortable, enjoyable and easy to use
Featuring a natural and upright riding position with a 795 mm seat height and a spacious footboard area, the NEO’s is designed to provide comfortable and relaxed ergonomics for a wide range of riders of varying physiques. By locating the battery under the seat rather than beneath the footboards, Yamaha’s design team have ensured that the new NEO’s has a large foot space, giving riders – large or small – the freedom to adopt the seating position that best suits them.

Generous seat cushioning together with the carefully designed handlebar/seat/footboard triangle creates an ergonomically efficient layout that ensures optimum riding comfort together with easy leg reach to the ground for confident starting and stopping.

Newly designed high-strength chassis
Yamaha’s designers have developed an all-new chassis for the electric NEO’s that consists of a high-strength frame that is designed to accommodate the fitment of various accessories including luggage, an apron, a smartphone holder and more. New KYB forks feature tough nickel plated inner tubes for increased corrosion resistance, while the NEO’s durable specification makes it the ideal package for urban commuters who want a simple, reliable and easy form of transport.

Newly designed cast wheels and special low-resistance tyres

Featuring an attractive ten-spoke design and finished in glossy solid black, the lightweight 13-inch diameter front wheel is fitted with a 110 wide tyre for lightweight steering and cornering stability.

At the rear, the NEO’s is equipped with a newly designed low-pressure die cast rim that is bolted directly to the direct drive electric motor and the whole rear unit is supported by a single-sided swing arm. For good traction and cornering stability, a 130 wide tyre is fitted.

Both the front and rear tyres have been specially developed for the new NEO’s and feature a low rolling resistance design and compound that helps to reduce battery power usage for optimum performance and range.

Underseat storage
With one battery fitted, the NEO’s underseat storage compartment can accommodate a jet helmet – and even with a second optional battery fitted for extended range, there’s still space for carrying a rainsuit or other small items.

Triumph Triple Trophy #PoweredByTriumph returns for the 2022 Moto2 season

2022 custom-liveried Street Triple RS prize unveiled in Qatar as a new points structure celebrates the close competition in Moto2™

The Qatar Grand Prix marked start of the fourth Moto2™ season powered by Triumph’s 765cc triple and also kicked off the 2022 Triumph Triple Trophy, with a renewed points structure introduced this season.

Now entering its third year, the Triumph Triple Trophy awarded a custom-liveried Street Triple RS to Marco Bezzecchi in 2020 and to Raul Fernandez in 2021, both of whom have successfully used Moto2™ as a springboard to now graduate to MotoGP™. The 2022 Street Triple RS that will be awarded to this year’s winner was presented by Carlos Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports Managing Director, and Steve Sargent, Triumph Motorcycles Chief Product Officer, in Qatar.

The Triumph Triple Trophy recognises that there are more success stories during a GP weekend than simply the race victory, and the updated scoring is designed to reflect the incredible close nature of the competition in Moto2™. In both previous years, it wasn’t the World Champion who won the Triumph Triple Trophy, and the changes for 2022 are designed to deepen this search for all standout performances.

For 2022, the points structure has been revised as follows:
7 points – Best race progression from start to finish: 7 points for the rider or riders making up the most positions from race start to chequered flag
6 points – Pole position: 6 points for the rider who qualifies on pole
5 points – Fastest race lap: 5 points for the fastest rider/riders in case of an equal fastest lap

Best race progression rewards the rider who had a great Sunday performance and who finished the race highest relative to their starting position.

At the opening round at Losail International Circuit, it was Celestino Vietti (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) who took the early lead courtesy of a dominant show with pole position and fastest lap.

The winner – the rider who has achieved the greatest number of points throughout the season – will be awarded a Triumph Street Triple RS motorcycle which is powered by the 765cc triple engine from which the Moto2™ powerplant is derived.

Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer: “The Moto2 World Championship is incredibly close and in 2021 the category was redefined again with a total of 16 lap records falling, beating many of those already set using Triumph 765cc power. The 2022 season looks set to follow suit with some modifications to the engine helping to improve performance, as demonstrated by lap records being smashed in pre-season testing. To highlight the closeness and intensity of racing the Triumph Triple Trophy scoring has been changed this year to reward the rider who makes the biggest improvement from their qualifying performance to their final position in the race. This will help to highlight some great performances from riders who may not be at the front and will really show how competitive Moto2 is throughout the whole field. I am really looking forward to see which riders bring their A-Game to the track on a Sunday and I am sure the winner of the Triumph Triple Trophy will thoroughly deserve their one-off special Street Triple RS.”

Carlos Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports Managing Director: “We’re very happy to join Triumph in celebrating the close competition in Moto2. The Triumph Triple Trophy is a great way to reward riders who have put in an impressive Sunday, and the Street Triple RS is an impressive prize. We couldn’t be happier with the way Moto2 has evolved over the last few seasons with Triumph powering the class. The collaboration has created fantastic racing in Moto2, and I don’t think riders who progress to MotoGP have ever been better prepared to make the step. We look forward to many more seasons of high calibre racing with Triumph!”

The Triumph Moto2™ 765cc race engine is a development of the class-leading Street Triple RS 765cc road motorcycle and produces more than 140PS and the same visceral soundtrack. The top-spec Street Triple RS variant is as perfectly suited to the track as it is the road.

Michelin to remain sole tyre supplier to the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup

The iconic French brand will continue as tyre supplier to MotoE™ until at least 2024.

Dorna Sports is pleased to confirm that Michelin will remain the sole, official tyre supplier to the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup until at least 2024, extending a partnership that has bred success and close competition since it began – both on-track and off.

Michelin has been a partner of MotoE™ since its inception in 2019, playing a vital role in the creation of the Cup’s identity as a fast, ultra-competitive motorcycle series racing alongside the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship. Michelin’s racing DNA is already showcased to perfection by the company’s ongoing tenure as sole tyre supplier to the MotoGP™ class, which began in 2016, and their commitment to quality and competition has continued shining through in MotoE™ since the series began.

Michelin’s commitment to MotoE™ goes beyond competition, with the company achieving increased and ever-increasing sustainability in their MotoE™ tyres, including the use of recycled and bio-sourced materials. The front tyres are composed of 33% sustainable resources and the rear tyres 40%, including materials such as lemon and orange peel, pine resin, sunflower oil, worn car and truck tyres, and scrap steel.

This seamless intersection between sustainability and performance makes Michelin the perfect match for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup. This new agreement until 2024 strengthens the partnership between Dorna and Michelin yet further, maintaining the iconic tyre brand’s presence across MotoGP™, MotoE™ and the MotoGP™ eSport Championship, of which it was also a founding partner.

Maria Esperanza Gaspar Aguilon, Michelin Senior Vice President Business Line 2 Wheels Worldwide: “Michelin is investing significantly in all the forms of motorsport that place the emphasis on sustainability and forward-looking technologies. Such series include the FIM MotoE World Cup. For three years now, it has provided Michelin with an invaluable laboratory for the development of tyres that contain a high proportion of bio-sourced, recycled and regenerated sustainable materials. We are delighted today to be extending our commitment to MotoE and to see the trust its players have in Michelin. For us, MotoE serves as a first-class opportunity to work hand in hand not only with Dorna Sports, but also with the teams and riders to take our innovations forward for the benefit of all Michelin road tyres in the future.”

Marc Saurina, Senior Director of Commercial Partnerships at Dorna Sports: “We’re very proud to confirm that Michelin will continue as the tyre supplier for MotoE. Since the Cup began, the close competition has been a calling card for the series and Michelin is a cornerstone of that, with exceptional performance. Their proven commitment to increased sustainability is also vital to MotoE, and a perfect fit for the Cup. Racing is one of the best laboratories to develop new technologies and solutions, and we’re very proud that Michelin has committed to MotoE as the perfect place to develop, test and assess what will likely become the tyre technology of the future for millions of vehicles.”

Oil hits $130 – Chancellor Must Cut Fuel Duty

The following is a press release from Howard Cox, Founder of the FairFuelUK Campaign:

Today every MP has received the following emailed letter on behalf of UK’s drivers as Brent crude oil hits $130 a barrel

Drivers are Crying Out for a Fuel Duty Cut Now & for the Treasury to Urgently Implement PumpWatch

Dear MP

Please support more than 2000+ drivers in your constituency, who have signed up to back FairFuelUK’s call to the Chancellor for an urgent cut in Fuel Duty of at least 5p per litre.
Will you also support Robert Halfon’s EDM call for an independent pump pricing monitoring body to stop the serial fleecing of drivers at the pumps.

FairFuelUK also backs the Road Haulage Association’s call for an essential user rebate of 15p per litre.

All three of these requests of you, to support, are vital to alleviate the increasing pain in ALL our costs of living. When implemented, they will slow inflation, keep businesses viable, secure jobs and protect the economy, without reducing income to the Exchequer

Record Pump Prices are Hurting 37m Drivers and the Economy

We are reliably informed petrol and diesel prices are to rocket even further by 10p to 20p per litre this coming week.

The extra VAT generated in the last year and the coming months because of the record prices at the pumps is more than enough to give drivers some respite, and cut Fuel Duty by 5p. This would bring pump prices in line with the average of Europe and make businesses more competitive and viable in a post Covid recovery phase.

Germany prices diesel 10p, France 7p, Italy 8p, Ireland 15p, Spain 29p, Slovakia 31p, USA 76p, Netherlands 8p ALL less than the UK, mainly due to these countries recognising that this fuel type drives the economy.

Even considering exchange rate changes since 2014 when the dollar price for a barrel of Brent Oil was similar to current prices, diesel and petrol are 10p to 14p per litre HIGHER NOW than necessary. For the driver of the average family car that is an eye watering £7.70 more than is both honest and fair.

Road Haulage Costs are Crippling
A fighting fit resilient road freight and logistics sector is essential too, not only to keep Britain moving, but to help build back better as we return to normality following the pandemic. Without your support through the introduction of an essential user rebate, we run the very real risk that as hauliers continue to be hit with sky high diesel prices during a cost-of-living crisis, the industry’s economic future will become ever more uncertain.

With over half of the cost of a litre of diesel accounted for by tax, we firmly believe that action should be taken to back UK hauliers and keep consumer prices under control through the introduction of an essential user rebate of 15p per litre. This step would mirror an approach taken by many other European nations including Spain, France and Italy which has proved successful.

PumpWatch
For over a decade of campaigning for FairFuelUK, I have witnessed the insidious unchecked fleecing of UK drivers. Our nation’s commercial, community, social heartbeat and our right of travel choice have been so relentlessly demonised and ruthlessly exploited, it has become an institutionalised commercial and fiscal fixation to implement a tsunami of anti-driver policies. And it seems, there are more to come.

The exploitation of drivers is running even more rampant, with businesses shameless without any compunction using the Ukrainian Conflict to line their pockets. THIS HAS TO STOP!

In Drumchapel, Glasgow, a BP garage (see image below) has just hiked diesel from 159.9p to 173.9p per litre. What is the basis for that increase and why yet again are diesel drivers being exploited more than petrol users?

There has to be transparency in the way petrol and diesel prices are reached as ‘global market commodity costs and exchange rates ‘legitimately’ fluctuate.

Why is the Treasury, and they know full well, not acting to check uncontrolled profiteering is damaging the economy, hitting the already highest taxed drivers in the world, and fuelling inflation?

Surely the lack of any monetary help for drivers, is not down to the £2bn gargantuan pile of extra VAT the Treasury has relished due to a fortunate high cost of filling up.

If gas, electricity, water and telecoms get price protection bodies, why shouldn’t motorists have one too? We need ‘PumpWatch’ now, to ensure pricing fairness for both consumers and hardworking fuel retailers too. Most of the profiteering is at wholesale level not by small independent retailers, who are also victims of the greedy fuel supply chain.

It really is time, the Government recognise that reducing the cost of living, should be their prime focus. Cutting Fuel Duty by at least 5p per litre, before pump prices become increasingly more un-affordable and even more debilitating for your constituents, it is the morally and fiscally, right thing to do.

Please will you call on the Treasury to cut Fuel Duty and implement PumpWatch immediately.

Weise layers for all seasons

Weise® has added two new Base Layer options to its range, helping riders stay comfortable through all four seasons: an insulated Thermal Top and Pants for the colder months and a lightweight set for Spring and Summer.

A key part of any motorcyclist’s wardrobe, an effective base layer helps to regulate the body’s temperature, wicking away moisture from perspiration and making it easier to get into and out of riding gear.

Designed for the colder months, the Thermal Top and Pants have a luxurious fleece lining to help insulate, while still retaining breathability. The soft-touch fabric has flat-finished seams, so it won’t rub and chafe, and has a light stretch for mobility on and off the bike. Both are available in sizes S-3XL and retail at £34.99 for the Top and £34.99 for the Pants (including VAT).

The Base Layer Set comprises a long sleeve top and trousers, both of which offer excellent moisture management and have light insulation to keep the wearer comfy from late Spring through to early Autumn. New dates for Henry Cole’s TV treasure hunt

History fans will really dig a brand new five-part series starting on ITV4 from 14 March – Henry Cole’s Great British Treasure Hunt.

Best known for Shed & Buried, Find It Fix It Flog It and The Motorbike Show, Henry will be taking a short break from digging around in sheds in a new quest to unearth ancient artefacts buried beneath Britain’s green and pleasant land.

Joining him will be five dedicated teams of the UK’s top metal detectorists, who have been given a unique opportunity to investigate some of the country’s finest historical sites, getting 48 hours to go where no detectorist has gone before.

Their finds will be assessed and scored by expert judges. Archaeologist Dr Susheela Burford (the show’s Finds Liaison Officer) will evaluate the historical interest and significance of each item, then award a number of points, from five for the most interesting, down to one for the least.

To add some extra excitement, auctioneer and independent valuer Adam Partridge then takes a look and hands out a bonus point for the find with the highest monetary value.

Scores accumulate across the five episodes, shown over successive evenings from Monday to Friday, and whichever duo has the highest at the end of the week wins the prestigious GBTH trophy – and the satisfaction of being judged the best amongst their detectorist peers!

Henry said: “I’m used to unearthing motoring ‘treasure’ in sheds and barns, but literally digging deeper into UK history has opened up a whole new world to me and I’ve met some really amazing people along the way.”

Henry and the detectorist duos start their search at Ardington House in Oxfordshire – built between 1719 and 1721 – before heading off around the country to another location for each following episode. These include the building rumoured to be the Greene Knight’s Castle in the Arthurian story of Sir Gawain and the Greene Knight and one of the world’s most prestigious schools.

Episode one of Henry Cole’s Great British Treasure Hunt will air on ITV4 at 8pm on 14th of March 2022, then daily until Friday 18th March.

Further details can be found on the ITV Hub at www.itv.com/hub/itv4

The Ducati E-Bikes range is updated for 2022

The Ducati E-Bikes range is updated for 2022 and extends into the e-road segment with the new Futa.

The eighth episode of the Ducati World Première 2022 web series was dedicated by the Bologna-based manufacturer to the presentation of the Ducati powered by Thok E-Bikes family.

For the 2022 season, the big news is the Futa: the first Ducati racing bicycle with pedal assistance, which will also be available in a Limited Edition. The Ducati E-Bikes range is also updated with an evolution of the MIG-S and the presentation of the TK-01RR Limited Edition.

Giorgio Favaretto, Head of Ducati E-Bikes business –  “The Ducati E-Bikes project was born in 2019 and immediately set itself the goal of offering pedal-assist bicycles with which to live unique and memorable experiences. The updates to existing models and the presentation of the new Ducati Futa give a further push in this direction, making up an even more complete and higher-performance range of E-Bikes for 2022. In particular, the inclusion of the Futa allows us to welcome new enthusiasts of this world into our family”.

The Ducati MIG-S  is an agile, high-performance and fun All Mountain, born to tackle any trail and ensure maximum fun in any condition. For 2022, the electric mountain bike is renewed in its aesthetics with a brand-new sporty livery which, as in all models in the range, was designed by Aldo Drudi in collaboration with the Centro Stile Ducati. The MIG-S also takes an important evolutionary step from a technical point of view by welcoming the more high-performance Shimano EP8 engine together with updated components.

The new Shimano EP8 drive unit represents a benchmark for the category. It is an exceptionally light engine (2.6 kg in weight), capable of delivering up to 85 Nm of torque with a maximum servo assistance ratio of 400%. In this engine the torque is always delivered with fluidity and naturalness to ensure excellent control of the vehicle. Thanks to the Shimano E-tube Project App, it is also possible at any time to adapt the character of the motor to your needs even via your smartphone wirelessly, by adjusting maximum torque and assistance timing.

The Ducati MIG-S can explore any path, ensuring excellent handling for the rider. The handling of this e-mtb is made possible by the high-level components it is equipped with.
The new suspensions (RockShox 35 RC fork and RockShox SuperDeluxe shock absorber) are adjustable and have a travel of 150 mm at the front and 140 mm at the rear, ideal for tackling any type of path in safety. The 12-speed SRAM transmission is even more precise and reliable, while the brakes are the powerful 4-piston SRAM Guide T with 203 mm discs. The 29″ front and 27.5″ rear THOK e-plus wheels are equipped with Pirelli Scorpion Enduro S tyres at the front and Pirelli Scorpion EMTB-S at the rear to offer maximum grip and traction on the most demanding stretches and at higher speeds. The 630 Wh Shimano battery is positioned externally, under the downtube, ensuring an extremely low centre of gravity and maximizing stability.

In 2022 the range expands also with the presentation of the new Ducati TK-01RR Limited Edition, an even more exclusive version of the Ducati e-enduro with which to tackle off-road challenges. This limited edition is a concentrate of technology that confirms the key features of the TK-01RR version, but is enriched with more advanced components, with the aim of further improving performance, especially in difficult downhill sections.

The Öhlins DH38 dual-plate motorcycle-style air fork (180 mm travel) and the Öhlins TTX spring shock absorber (170 mm travel) ensure incredible control of the vehicle downhill, while still maintaining great efficiency on uphill stretches. The 11-speed Shimano Di2 XT rear electronic shifter always provides fast and precise shifting, while the Magura MT7 brakes with 220 mm discs at the front and 203 mm at the rear are also of motorcycle derivation and are among the most powerful available on the market.
The differentiated format Crankbrothers Synthesis wheels (29″ front, 27.5″ rear) with variable thickness carbon rims help to further improve riding precision, guaranteeing an excellent weight / strength ratio. The set-up is completed by a Renthal carbon handlebar, a Fizik saddle with a special integrated tool holder, and finally a carbon battery cover and skid plate.

The most important Ducati powered by Thok news for 2022 is called Ducati Futa. The name derives from the Futa Pass, the road that crosses the Italian Apennines connecting Bologna to Florence, well-known and much-appreciated by many Ducatisti. The Ducati Futa is a performing e-road, for those who want to train, have fun and pedal to their maximum even over long distances and when covering the most demanding climbs. A light E-Bike that embodies the Ducati spirit by focusing on design, innovation and fun in a perfect combination of comfort and performance.

The carbon fibre monocoque frame features a sport endurance geometry, but with technical choices oriented to aerodynamics and speed. The compact rear triangle, with lowered seat-stays, makes the E-Bike comfortable, while generating less aerodynamic drag. The rear frame is stiff laterally, precisely by virtue of the choice of stays positioning and favours a better transmission of power to the wheel, as well as increasing the responsiveness of the bike. Top tube, downtube, seat post and fork blades are expertly profiled, and their reliefs are highlighted by the play of colours of the livery, which sees grey and black as the main colours with accents in Ducati Red.

The engine, located on the rear hub, is the FSA System HM 1.0 with 250W and 42Nm of torque which boasts a fluid and natural delivery in all conditions and is among the lightest and most compact in its category (3.98 kg). This engine is equipped with 5 assistance levels that can be selected via the Garmin control on the handlebar, which allow you to manage the desired level of support. The FSA app, available for iOS and Android devices, allows the rider to view statistics, system status, remaining battery life and charge status quickly and intuitively. Through the app it is also possible to download any software updates and communicate with FSA service centres around the world.

Thanks to its low weight (12.4 kg in M size) and to an almost imperceptible engine resistance, exceeding 25Km/h*, the Ducati Futa is always responsive and fast on flat stretches. The standard FSA K-Force WE group set features an exceptionally smooth and fast 2×12-speed wireless electronic shifting, powerful 160mm disc brakes with adjustable UD carbon interchangeable levers and crankset with pedal arms in carbon.
The Vision AGX30 wheels with carbon rims are fitted with 35 mm Pirelli Cinturato Velo TLR tyres, which guarantee smoothness, comfort and grip, combined with considerable strength. The 250 Wh FSA battery is integrated in the downtube and an optional 250 Wh range extender is available to cover even longer distances.

The new Futa will also be available in a Limited Edition: available only in 50 numbered units, created for those looking for an e-road with even more sophisticated standard equipment that makes the bike even lighter (12.2 kg).

The Futa Limited Edition has an exclusive livery inspired by Ducati Corse racing universe. This special model maintains the features of the Futa, but integrates them with top-of-the-range components to offer maximum riding comfort and top performance in any situation. Standing out among these components are the Campagnolo Super Record EPS electromechanical groupset, a benchmark model in terms of performance built with quality materials such as carbon, titanium and ceramic bearings, the Vision Metron 40 SL wheels with carbon rims, at the top for weight-aerodynamics ratio and the highly aerodynamic Vision Metron carbon fibre handlebar with integrated stem and cables.
The Ducati Futa Limited Edition is equipped as standard with the 250 Wh range extender and Garmin Edge Explorer GPS bike computer with customized handlebar mount, which provides dedicated maps and functions for road cycling.

The models that make up the new Ducati E-Bikes powered by Thok range can be ordered from the Ducati dealer network** and online at ebike.ducati.com.

Yamaha Motor Switches ON

The start of new era in electric mobility
Eric de Seynes – Yamaha Motor Europe’s President & CEO – announces today the company’s entry into the world of electric personal mobility. “The concept of mobility has continuously evolved over the years, and consequently our cities and infrastructures have adapted to these changes. However, one thing that has remained the same over the decades is the universal desire and need for personal mobility that gives a real sense of freedom.”

Yamaha is focused on delivering creative and innovative new solutions to support the evolving needs of its customers – and in the première of Switch ON, Yamaha reveals details of its future electric models and how they have been developed to satisfy the requirements of a wide range of customers in an ever changing world.

Two new electric Yamaha scooters
In the next few weeks Yamaha will launch the all-new NEO’s – a smart, accessible and high quality “50cc-equivalent” electric scooter that was first displayed at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show as the E02 prototype. This will be followed by Yamaha’s first “125cc-equivalent” scooter that will showcase the company’s very latest engineering and technology. Derived from the E01 prototype – also displayed at Tokyo – this yet to be named model will be the protagonist in a Proof of Concept activity that Yamaha will set up in a major European city with a scooter sharing partner.

30 years’ experience in eBike drive units
Yamaha has a long and distinguished track record in electric vehicle development that goes back to the early 1990s when the company created the first Power Assist System (PAS) which formed the basis of the world’s first production eBike. Since then Yamaha has been at the forefront in the development of lightweight and compact electric drive units for eBikes, with approximately 7 million produced in three decades.

In recent years the demand for eBikes has grown exponentially, with more than 5 million sold in Europe in 2021 – many equipped with Yamaha drive units – therefore the company has made the decision to expand its production capacity and start producing drive units in Europe. While remaining totally committed to developing cutting-edge drive unit systems for the company’s many OEM bicycle manufacturers, Yamaha is about to launch three new ‘own brand’ eBikes in the All Mountain, Gravel and Urban segments. Full details will be revealed during the summer, and these new Yamaha eBikes will start to be available before the end of 2022 through Yamaha’s Powered Two Wheeler network, with the target to complete the European Distributor set-up in 2023.

The moped is back
But this is just the beginning, and to underline the company’s future potential in every class of electric urban mobility, Yamaha presents the B01 – a new hybrid prototype that intelligently combines eBike S-Pedelec functionality with moped performance and all urban terrain ability. Currently a concept model created by Yamaha Motor Europe in association with long-term partners Fantic Motor and Motori Minarelli, B01 will evolve into a production machine that will further expand Yamaha’s electric mobility range.

Eric de Seynes concluded, stating that “Yamaha is excited to expand its personal mobility range and open a whole new chapter in the history of the company. Backed up by Yamaha’s world-class engineering capabilities and supported by a professional dealer network, the introduction of these new electric products and related services will inspire a new generation of customers.”

Akrapovič Launches Protection for the BMW R 1250 GS

Akrapovič has increased its product range by offering titanium protection bars for the first time to the market with this new range aimed at providing an extra line of defence to the BMW R 1250 GS.

Using its extensive knowledge and expertise from decades of experience in the field of lightweight titanium technology, Akrapovič has created upper and lower protection bar sets – exclusively designed from scratch – for the BMW R 1250 GS. They are constructed from sandblasted titanium tubes, which have the same mechanical properties as steel bars, but are approximately 40% lighter than stainless steel. They offer high strength, and they are lightweight and corrosion resistant at the same time. These bars are precision TIG welded, equipped with laser-cut and finely machined 8 mm flanges to provide a perfect fit and strength. The highly stable construction is partly fixed to the chassis to distribute any impact through the bars.

Designed to integrate with the bike’s existing components, Akrapovič has conducted numerous tests and deformation analyses to obtain the optimum protection from this product. Constructed to exacting specifications with the Akrapovič attention to detail, these upper and lower bar sets have no restriction on the lean angle and meet ABE type approval. All four parts weigh just 6.26 kg, making them one of the lightest protection bar sets on the market for the BMW R 1250 GS.

The bars are finished with an engraved Akrapovič logo, with the word Titanium prominently displayed to emphasize the use of this material in their construction. The Upper Protection Bar Set (Titanium) and Lower Protection Bar Set (Titanium) can be bought together or separately. They are compatible with the 2019-2022 BMW R 1250 GS, with only the lower bar set available for the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure. The bars have been designed to give customers not only a high standard of protection for their cherished motorcycles, but also to offer the possibility of attaching extra bags and fog lights or spotlights from other manufacturers to the bar.

TUCANORAK: The perfect partner for Tucano Urbano’s leg cover

Introducing the TUCANORAK: The first rain jacket designed to be worn alongside the Termoscud® leg cover from Tucano Urbano, to provide ultimate protection against rain and cold.

Tucano Urbano has been crafting smart urban innovations for the past 21 years, starting with the first-ever Termoscud® leg cover introduced in 1999. Since then, Tucano Urbano has been a brand synonymous with rainwear and weather protection for scooter riders, and now, the Milanese brand launches the new TUCANORAK; a waterproof anorak-inspired jacket with a Termoscud®-ready system to prevent any water infiltration between the leg cover and the body of the rider.

In just three simple steps, any rider can become ready to take on a downpour; first, lift the front pocket of the TUCANORAK jacket, then slide the Termoscud® bib under the pocket, and finally, close the pocket over the bib. Water will simply run off the jacket pocket and over the leg cover, ensuring it doesn’t reach the rider’s body.

The TUCANORAK is constructed with a breathable, lightweight polyamide, which is windproof and has a high water column resistance with taped seams. There is a double waterproof flap covering the central zip and collar, and meets the requirements for rain protection fabrics (PPE Rainwear Category 1) in accordance with EN 343:2019.

The back of the jacket features reflective inserts for added visibility in poor conditions, and there’s a polyester mesh lining for breathability. To ensure the jacket doesn’t flap, it is designed with a long, fitted shape to wrap around the hips and pelvis, and comes with elastic waist and cuff adjusters. For when riders aren’t wearing their helmet off the bike, there’s an ergonomic hood which folds into the neck.

The TUCANORAK is available in four sizes; XS-S, M-L, XL-2XL and 3XL-4XL, with RRP £59.99.

For enhanced protection against cold weather, the Termoscud® leg cover is also compatible with Tucano Urbano’s TERMOWARM heated leg pad; simply place the heated leg pad into the top Termoscud® compartment pocket and switch it on for added warmth.

The TERMOWARM is made with extremely tough Oxford polyamide, and to ensure heat is reflected towards the rider’s legs, there’s an inner aluminium foil to deflect heat on the top, and the rear side is constructed with Aero 3D mesh to spread the heat uniformly. Powered by a power bank with minimum capacity of 5000mAh 5V/2A (not supplied), the heating duration is around 1.5hours based on 5000mAh power.

The TERMOWARM has an RRP of £49.99.

Conceptualized and designed to showcase Royal Enfield’s rich and storied legacy, the motorcycles present a unique opportunity for global enthusiasts to own a piece of motorcycling history. With a limited production run of only 120 units allocated to the European market – 60 Continental GT 650 and 60 Interceptor INT 650 – these motorcycles are true collector’s items. The Limited Edition Motorcycles will be available to buy on a first-come-first-serve basis via the Flash Sale that will go live on Monday 7th March at 5:30pm GMT.

The globally successful 650 Twin motorcycles – the Interceptor and the Continental GT – have received immense love from riding enthusiasts across the world and in the process have also raked in numerous, coveted global automotive awards. Inspired by the

legendary Royal Enfield Interceptor 750 and Continental GT 250 of the 1960’s, these motorcycles have been instrumental in the brand’s global expansion and success over the last few years. The significance and relevance of the Interceptor INT and the Continental GT 650, both in Royal Enfield’s glorious past, and modern history, made them an obvious choice for the anniversary edition.

The 120th Year anniversary edition Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have been designed and handcrafted by the company’s teams across the UK and India. The unique, rich black-chrome tank colour scheme has been developed in-house using Royal Enfield’s industry-leading chroming technology at the company’s original 1950’s manufacturing factory in Thiruvottiyur, Chennai – India.

To complement the black chrome tanks, both the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 will feature, for the first time, completely blacked out components with the engine, silencer and other elements in an array of black colour schemes. The motorcycles will also come equipped with a range of Genuine Motorcycle Accessories such as flyscreens, engine guards, heel guards, touring and bar end mirrors amongst others in a black disguise to complement the overall design.

In celebration of the brand’s renown for finishes by hand, the 120th Year Anniversary edition motorcycles will feature a very unique, handcrafted, die-cast brass tank badge. These exquisite looking brass badges have been made in collaboration with the ‘Sirpi Senthil’ family who are multi-generational artisans from the temple town of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. Particularly specialized in making the elegant brass effigies for the most revered temples in India for centuries, this is the first time that these artisans have collaborated with any automotive brand. The motorcycles will also be finished with the legendary Royal Enfield hand-painted pinstripes.

To make each motorcycle even more exclusive, the tank top badge will feature its own unique serial number indicating that it is 1 of 60 unique motorcycles in Europe. Additionally, the motorcycles will also adorn a side panel decal that is a tribute to Royal Enfield’s 120 years.

Speaking on the launch, Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors Ltd. said, “Few brands can celebrate the kind of legacy and history that Royal Enfield has enjoyed over the last century and there was simply no better way of celebrating this milestone than sharing a piece of it with our consumers around the world in the form of the 120th Anniversary Edition 650 Twin motorcycles. Both the Interceptor and the Continental GT enjoy huge global success just as they did in the 1960’s, and truly represent our heritage of making simple and enjoyable motorcycles”

Seeking sheds with star quality

Popular automotive restoration TV show Shed and Buried is on a nationwide search for more of the UK’s most interesting sheds, filled with vintage vehicles and motoring memorabilia ripe for rescuing.

Motorcycle fanatic Henry Cole and his best friend, engineering genius Sam Lovegrove, are heading back out on the road as they continue their quest to discover hidden treasure buried in the nation’s sheds, garages, barns and outhouses.

Their hunt for all things car, motorbike, tractor, boat – or any iteration of mechanical curiosity – is just the starting point for the spanner-wielding double act, as they fulfil their need to buy, fix up and sell, with the hope of making a potentially ‘tidy’ profit.

If you, or someone you know, also has a passion for all things automotive and owns a fantastic shed, garage or lock-up that you think may fit the bill for Henry and Sam to come and have a rummage in, then it could feature on the upcoming TV series.

All filming will be strictly adhering to the latest government guidelines, in response to the ongoing coronavirus situation, and every care will be taken to ensure that the location of properties will not be unnecessarily revealed.
