Zero Motorcycles introduce limited edition SR/F Quickstrike package

Zero Motorcycles, the worldwide leader in electric motorcycles and powertrains, has launched the extremely limited Quickstrike package for its SR/F electric motorcycle. In the rarest release quantities ever seen from the electric motorcycle manufacturer, only 100 of these numbered sets will be released globally. Zero has upped the ante in the body aesthetic stakes by equipping these already head-turning bikes with race-inspired components and parts.

“When Zero launched the transformational SR/F, the entire market shifted,” said Chris Metcalfe, VP of Marketing at Zero Motorcycles. “The significance of a single motorcycle all of sudden validating an entire category of powersports is unheard of, so we wanted to make a custom package that was just as special as the bikes it was made for.”

The inspiration for this special release was born from the performance of the company’s factory-backed effort up the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, one of the most exclusive and dangerous motorsports events in the world.

The face of the Quickstrike SR/F is unmistakable, thanks to the Oya carbon fibre front mudguard and black aluminium fly screen, which are complemented by smoked lense LED indicators front and rear. Completing the look is an Oya carbon rear fender, along with Barracuda mirrors and lever guards. The Italian company also provides its aluminium swingarm spools, allowing easy use of a rear paddock stand. UK buyers will also receive a special Quickstrike bike cover.

The retail price of the Quickstrike package is £999. They are available for order at Zero Motorcycles’ 18-strong UK dealer network.

Each Bag is made from 100% waterproof, PU-coated 75d Polyester, with specially sealed double seams. The material is ultralight – so doesn’t add weight or bulk – yet is tough and built to last.

Getting items in and out is easy thanks to a large main opening and a reinforced roll closure system, with side-release clips. The bags’ blue colour makes finding things inside easy too.

Z900 Powers Into 2022 Season

One of Kawasaki’s most outstanding success stories of the recent past, the Z900 is set to power its way into 2022 and earn a place in the hearts of yet more naked bike category fans.

A hit since the day of its introduction, the Z900 has gradually evolved to meet the needs of discerning riders but never at the cost of the core, elemental riding experience that only a Kawasaki Z can deliver.

The Z900 now boasts a number of rider aids and additional features that enhance the overall riding and ownership experience. From a rider view perspective, the Z900 comes equipped with a colour TFT meter display that has earned high praise for its clarity. Plus integrated into the meter is a Bluetooth chip allowing he rider to synch their smart phone with their motorcycle using the useful Rideology App from Kawasaki that relates a variety of machine and status aspects to the screen of the riders’ phone.

Also aiding the rider, the Z900 has handlebar switch selectable power modes offering a choice of Full Power or Low Power allowing riders to set the power delivery to suit preference and conditions.

KTRC, Kawasaki’s advanced traction control system, is also standard providing both enhanced sport riding performance and the peace of mind to negotiate low-traction surfaces with confidence. The three rider selectable modes offer progressively greater levels of intervention to suit the riding situation and rider preference.

And usefully combining the two, the Z900 incorporates selectable Riding Modes as standard linking KTRC and Power Mode to allow riders the facility to set traction control and power delivery to suit a given riding situation. Riders can choose from three settings (Sport, Road, Rain) or a manual setting (Rider).

Benefitting – like all models in the 2022 Z family – from Kawasaki’s unique Sugomi design philosophy creating a balance between visual styling and under-skin engineering, the Z900 will be available in early November and will come in three colours:

  • Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black (Standard £9,299, Performance Edition £10,199)
  • Pearl Robotic White/Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray (Standard £9,399, Performance Edition £10,299)
  • Candy Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black (Standard £9,399, Performance Edition £10,299)

Classic Suzuki Sunday finally returns to the Super Sausage Café

After a year’s sabbatical following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Classic Suzuki Sunday is set to return the Super Sausage Café on 19 September.

Previous years’ events have seen packed crowds at the biker-friendly café off the A5 near Towcester, as Suzuki – through its popular Vintage Parts Programme – and Team Classic Suzuki display a range of 1970s, 80s, and 90s road and racing machinery.

Displayed at this year’s event will be the Team Classic Suzuki Katana endurance racer, which John Reynolds and Pete Boast raced to victory at Oschersleben. Sticking with the Katana theme, the outfit’s project Katana, based on world superbike underpinnings, will also feature.

Added exotica comes courtesy of a factory RGV250 racer from the 1997 Japanese championship, as ridden by Noriyasu Numata in its orange Rizla Suzuki livery.

Suzuki GB will also show off the GSX-R1100 and Bandit 600 rebuilt by apprentices on its Apprenticeship Programme, plus an RGV250 and the 1985 GSX-R750F restored at Motorcycle Live in 2015, as part of the model’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Aftersales marketing co-ordinator, Tim Davies, said,“We are so incredibly happy that we’re able to put this event on again. It’s not far from Suzuki HQ and feels something like a home event, and after the year we had in 2020 we’re really excited to get back to the Super Sausage Café and bring our vintage fleet along with us. As well as the bikes we’re bringing, however, we are always keen to see what other people bring to the event, from GSX-Rs to GTs and everything in between. Traditionally there has always been a fantastic turnout, and being an outdoor event we’re hoping to see the bike park filled again this year.”

The Super Sausage Café can be found off the A5, between Towcester and Potterspury, Northampton, NN12 7QD.

Brand new Katana fuel tanks now in stock on Suzuki Vintage Parts Programme

Brand new, genuine Katana fuel tanks are now in stock and available on Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme, after the Japanese firm remanufactured a limited run.

With an RRP of £746.76 including VAT, the brand new fuel tanks fit GSX1100SD and GSX1000SZ Katanas and are finished in the glorious silver and adorned with the same red Suzuki lettering.

Suzuki GB aftersales co-ordinator Tim Davies, said, “We’re really excited to have these new Katana fuel tanks in stock, in the UK, and that the factory have been able to reproduce this limited run. No one needs me to point out how iconic the Katana is and how they’re still so sought after, and we see so many restorations or custom builds based on the bike. Of course, over time, bikes left to stand can suffer from all sorts of problems with stale fuel or water and moisture in the tank, so being able to replace it completely for a brand new, genuine item is a great thing to be able to do for a bike that is 40-years-old.”

Designed by Hans A. Muth and Target Design, the Katana was like nothing before it. It was a radical departure from current motorcycling fashion and was a sales success for Suzuki.

Other parts still available for the Katana include centre stands, brake and clutch levers, clock surrounds, sprocket covers, con-rods, pistons, and piston rings, an array of gaskets, valves, cotters, seals, and springs, and even the carburettor intakes pipe rubbers.

The new fuel tanks and other parts on the Vintage Parts Programme can be ordered through authorised Suzuki dealers.

Super Soco Becomes First Electric PTW Brand in the UK to Surpass 1000 Sales in Single Year

Super Soco has become the first-ever electric motorcycle and scooter brand in the UK to sell over 1000 units in a single year, showing that there is an increasing desire for zero emission urban transport that is convenient, reliable and safe.
The company, which specialises in small-capacity, zero-emission electric machines for urban use, surpassed the record-breaking figure at the end of August. It has sold 1028 machines in 2021 so far to strengthen its position as the UK’s fastest-growing and best-selling electric powered two-wheeler (e-PTW) brand.
The achievement comes on the back of a strong 18 months for both Super Soco and electric motorcycle sales overall. This has been driven partly by consumers seeking a safer way to travel during the pandemic, coupled with an increase in environmental awareness and the desire for zero emission urban transport that is both properly legislated, and which – thanks to removable batteries – doesn’t rely on the existing public charging infrastructure.
In 2020, MCIA figures showed that e-PTW registrations were 51.2% up on the previous year, while Super Soco’s own sales have increased by a huge 478% in 2021. The brand is leading the charge in the electric category, accounting for an impressive 26.78% of all e-PTW registrations for the year-to-date. Its 125cc-equivalent CPx maxi scooter is the UK’s best-selling electric machine, with 698 units registered so far this year, while its TC Max café-racer style motorcycle has enjoyed a 70% increase in sales compared to 2020.
MCIA statistics also show that Super Soco – which was only launched in the UK in 2017 – is ranked as the 17th best-selling powered two-wheeler brand overall, beating well-established petrol-powered giants such as Aprilia and Husqvarna. With the Department for Transport banning the sale of all new petrol motorcycles from 2035, the increasing appearance of electric marques in the best-selling list could signify that the gradual shift to e-PTWs is already underway.
With five 100% electric models in the Super Soco line-up, ranging from the entry-level 50cc-equivalent twist and go CUx scooter and TSx motorcycle to the 125cc-equivalent CPx maxi scooter and TC and TC Max motorcycles, there’s something for every urban commuter’s needs. Each model features easily removable batteries that can be charged from a domestic three-pin plug within 3-4 hours.
Prices range from £2,249 to £4,249 inclusive of 20% discount via the UK Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Funding (OZEF) grant. For more information on Super Soco or to find your nearest dealer, visit www.supersoco.co.uk
Richard Jordan, CEO of Super Soco UK
“We are obviously very pleased as a company to have reached this sales milestone after four years of hard work to establish the brand in the UK, but more than that, we are really excited about what it means for the electric industry as a whole. No electric powered-two wheeler brand has ever sold this many units in a single year before and it really goes to prove that the shift from petrol to electric is beginning to take hold. Our particular focus is of course on urban mobility and the fact that Super Soco offers an efficient, affordable, convenient and zero emission way of travelling in towns and cities right now, without major safety concerns or the worry that public infrastructure doesn’t support it. It’s a no-brainer for environmentally-aware commuters and we’re happy that the message is now translating into real life situations”

Silverstone Auctions Return To The NEC Classic Motor Show For Their Tenth Year

Silverstone Auctions return to the NEC Classic Motor Show for their tenth year and introduce a dedicated motorcycle sale for the show.

Silverstone Auctions are returning to The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, for their tenth year as the official auction partner for the popular motoring event. Taking place on the weekend of the 12th – 14th November, a dedicated motorcycle sale will take place on Friday 12th, followed by their classic car and automobilia sales on the Saturday and Sunday (13th – 14th).

The motorcycle sale is a new addition for the 2021 event at the NEC, this follows the introduction of the motorcycle department within Silverstone Auctions earlier this year – which has already seen a successful sales rate of over 70%. A number of historic and collectable motorcycles are already confirmed for the auction, including this 1950 Vincent Series ‘C’ Rapide. With matching-numbers, this Series ‘C’ Rapide has a known history from new and still remains in outstanding condition. This bike had a lengthy feature in Classic Bike 2013 which is included within the history file. Ready to grace any serious collection, it is sensibly guided at £35,000 – £45,000.

Another bike confirmed in the catalogue is this 1939 Brough Superior SS80 with Alpine ‘Petrol Tube’ Sidecar. This outstanding and desirable example is possibly the most complete and original Brough Superior Combination ever to be offered at auction. This distinctive motorcycle has a known history from day one and is a true rarity which is rarely seen on the open market. Estimated at £50,000 – £60,000.

Mark Bryan, motorcyclist specialist for Silverstone Auctions added “We already have a number of unrepeatable examples for our debut motorcycle sale at the NEC. Bikes play a huge part in the wider event so it is fitting that we can now offer clients an opportunity to sell (and buy) at this classic event. If you are interested in submitting your bike, you can join the catalogue next to some truly superb examples with great provenance.”

Well-presented and crossing the block on the 12th is this 1921 Triumph Model H 550cc. This bike has been in the same family ownership since 1968 and has had an older restoration which has aged really well. With correct numbers, it is a great Banbury Run machine and is complete with its old RF60 Buff Logbook. Silverstone Auctions have sensibly guided this bike at £10,000 – £12,000.

This garage find 1978 Harley-Davidson SX125 (pic top of the page) has covered just 712 miles from new! Built by Harley’s former Italian subsidiary, Aermacchi, it is remarkably original and unrestored – having been with the same owner until the start of this year. From the last year of production, this is a rare bike and is estimated at £4,000 – £5,000.

If you are interested in submitting your classic car, collector motorcycle or piece of automobilia, the auction house are inviting you to join their already fabulous lot list for the sale. To talk to a member of their expert team, you can email enquiries@silverstoneauctions.com or contact them on 01926 691141. 9 collectable motorcycles hiding in the shadows

The flagship or halo classic and modern-classic motorcycles that hog the headlines in the media and garner most of the attention at auctions – not to mention fill the daydreams of bikers around the UK – are wonderful, two-wheeled creations but for those in the know there are some fantastic motorbikes that live in their shadows and deserve a moment in the spotlight.

In fact, some experts in the bike trade believe the overlooked motorcycles hiding in the shadows could be a better buy than the usual suspects – namely breakthrough bikes, such as the early crop of Japanese or Italian sports mopeds which will always have a special meaning to older, typical classic bike buyers, or, for their era, eye-opening 250s, or big flagship machines they could not afford back in the day.

Mark Bryan of Silverstone Auctions believes there are great bikes out there waiting to be discovered by a wider audience. “Sometimes unfathomably and unpredictably, particular bikes become collectable or desirable, and that can draw attention away from actually very good or interesting machines which live in the shadow of their bigger siblings,” Bryan told Hagerty.

It’s an undercard of bikes which were seen as second-string contenders back in the day, and remained there for decades – but are now beginning to pique the interest of those in the know while classic heavyweight collector motorcycles slug it out at the top of the market.

They’re almost exclusively Japanese and Italian machines, their motorcycle engineering and marketing nous recognising the range-extension and revenue value of creating a race dominator, and then introducing smaller or more affordable versions that looked the part, and sometimes even proved to be better bikes.

Mark Redfern of Somerset Classic Motorcycles agrees. “There are some cracking bikes out there which have lived in the shadows of their more illustrious siblings but are now coming into their own.

“The Kawasaki Z650, for instance. This was always the Cinderella bike in the range after the Z900s and then the Z1000. Prices are still quite low for the bike you get – very low compared to their bigger brothers – and they look good and ride well. They are just starting to get the recognition they deserve so now would be a good time to get one.”

Bryan of Silverstone Auctions homes in on smaller versions of ’80s and ’90s race rockets. “The ultimate for me is the Ducati 748, the baby brother of the 916. Then there’s the Honda NC30, the 400cc version of the 750cc RC30. They exploited the success and desirability of their bigger, faster and far more expensive relatives, but are fantastic bikes in their own right.

“All the Japanese manufacturers produced 600cc versions of the bigger 750 or 900cc models, sometimes for marketing or licence restriction purposes, sometimes inadvertently producing machines which proved to be far more ride-able and usable than the range-toppers.”

Japanese home market bikes were quite often smaller versions of the bigger US or European models, Honda even producing the screaming near-20,000rpm CBR250RR, the “baby Fireblade”. Mark Redfern concludes: “Overall, I would say that middleweights are more popular now because they are often lighter on the road and lighter on the wallet. Back in the day a difference of 20 bhp was a lot and people wanted all the power they could get. Now, as classics, that difference in power is marginal given the way they’re used.”

So what are the bikes the experts believe are living in the shadows of their brighter star siblings and deserve to have the dust sheet lifted, kick-stand raised and engine cranked into life for miles and smiles of riding? Here are their picks.

Photo: Bonhams

Suzuki GT550.

Price range: £2000 for restoration to £9000 for originals in excellent condition or fully restored.

The 50bhp GT550 (1972-1977) never really sold in the UK as people saved a little harder and bought the 70bhp GT750 instead. They lived in a bit of a no-man’s-land below the flagship and above the GT380 triple, yet these are great bikes and actually very rare – because nobody bought them back then. Values have already rocketed so they are no longer a bargain but they are now coming out of the shadows, and less pricey than the 750. Prices: £2000 for complete restoration to £9000 for originals in excellent condition, or fully restored.

Kawasaki Z650.

Price range: £1250 for restoration; £2750 for fair examples; £5000 for originals in excellent condition or fully restored.

Case in point about smaller versions of flagships being subjectively better: the 64bhp Z650 (1976-1983) was far less of a handful to ride than the Z900 – its power not overwhelming its chassis – even though it was amongst the most powerful bhp per cc machines out there. It looked a bit like the bigger Z, and some versions could actually challenge Suzuki’s GS750 when it came to performance. Cinderella may be on her way to the collector’s ball…

Honda NC30

Price range: £2500 for restoration; £4000 for fair examples; £10000 for originals in excellent condition or fully restored.

In 1991 a Honda NC30 would have set its original buyer back by £6600, now it’s anything between £2500 for a messed-with ex-trackday weapon to £10k for a mint example. You’ll find good usable examples for around £4000. What’s the appeal? It’s a smaller version of the legendary 750 RC30, one that looks the part, sounds the part with a 14,500rpm 59bhp V4, and goes the part too. However, it does mean a good number of NC30s have seen tracks whether in competitive racing or for trackdays. Dealers and owners caution that some parts like the exhaust are almost extinct, but there’s a hardcore of collectors who recognise the future value of these bikes. Now might be the moment to snap one up.

Suzuki GS550

Price range: £500 for restoration; £2000 for fair examples; £4000 for originals in excellent condition or restored.

In a range of Suzuki GS bikes that spawned 600, 750 and 1000cc sports bikes and race winners, as well as landmark regular road bikes, the 49bhp, GS550 (1977-1984) has been comparatively anonymous. Never really noted for its looks, and last into the 550 market, these bikes have not yet taken off in price as much as the GT550s but they are seen by in-the-know classic-heads as a great middleweight bike that represents good value for money.

Ducati 748

Price range: £3500 for restoration; £5000 for fair examples; £8000 for originals in excellent condition or restored.

Sometime less is more and in the case of Italy’s Ducati, it has a history of building 900-ish-cc machines and then making even better 750cc spin-offs. While the Ducati 916 was the basis for a race machine that conquered the competition on track, the 90bhp 748 (1995-2002) was considered by road riders who’d experienced both to be the better bike, feeling smaller and more sporty because of its freer-revving engine. But here’s the kicker: it currently tends to sell today for way less than its original £10,350 retail price. Maintenance history is crucial, though.

Honda CG125

Price range: £500 for restoration; £1200 for fair examples; £2500 for originals in excellent condition or restored.

Whoa. Where did that one come from? Honda’s seemingly indestructible and timeless CG125 (1975-2004) has always been, well, just there, existing. But the collector market switches on to practical and unexceptional machines often when somebody spots that there’s actually fewer around, in this case because CG125s have become a customisers’ favourite. Sitting in the shadow of the CB125 “sport” version, ’70s and ’80s CGs are increasing in value, use-ables at around £1,200, exceptional originals sneaking towards £2,500.

BMW R65

Price range: £800 for restoration; £2500 for fair examples; £4500 for originals in excellent condition or restored.

After a few engine improvements in early life, the BMW R65 (1978-1992) evolved into a great bike – following the trend, here, of smaller machines actually being more satisfying. BMW 750, 800, 900 and 1000cc machines of the ’80s shared very similar chassis, but the 45bhp R65 and its unfortunately insipid R45 spinoff, had a smaller frame. But the R65 always lived in the shadow of its “bahnstormer” touring and “sports touring” bike relatives. R65s are getting scarce because they too are customisers’ favourites, delivering a light and agile ride that really involves the rider.

Honda CB500-4

Price range: £4000 for restoration; £6000 for fair examples; £10,000 for originals in excellent condition or restored.

Sitting in the shadow of perhaps the most desirable Japanese classic, the Honda CB750-4, the significance of the CB500-4 (1971-74) is sometimes lost, not because it’s a bad bike, but because the 75bhp 750 is so comparatively immense in stature. Equal condition CB500s – once basket cases have been eliminated – are generally around two-thirds the price of CB750s. But the 50bhp CB500, generally 20% less mass part-for-part than the 750, is a better ride. In our view and the eyes of the experts, that makes it an intelligent acquisition.

Kawasaki GPz 550

Price range: £500 for restoration; £2500 for fair examples; £5000 for originals in excellent condition or restored.

The GPz 750 was the fastest accelerating production 750 back in 1982. Follow that. The 54bhp GPz 550 (1981-1985) had its work cut out. Like many 1980s bikes, its looks, today, are less than elegant. But elegance is relative, and we all see beauty differently, and ugly-beautiful classics have their place. The 550 was lauded as being a great all-rounder on twisty roads or motorways, but isn’t out there in huge numbers. But if you cared for bikes back in the ’80s, you may have noticed how many couriers chose to smoke around on these. That’s the indication of a good bike. A bit of an investment sleeper.

The 2022 KTM 450 SMR is The Ultimate Supermoto Racer

Razor sharp on the asphalt, and now with added aesthetic to match, the 2022 KTM 450 SMR is KTM’s definitive expression of Supermoto. Whether for hunting for the checkered flag or shaving seconds off a lap-time, this is the best choice…if you can catch it.

The 2022 KTM 450 SMR is the clenched fist that delivers KTM’s swift and powerful punch in the Supermoto world. A segment benchmark for handling and power, in its updated for 2022 trim this new machine gets even closer to the KTM racing family thanks to its special orange frame, blue seat and racing graphics.

The championship-winning engine from KTM’s motocross and supercross machines has been adjusted and modified for optimum Supermoto use. The motor weighs just 27 kg but growls with torque and bites hard with 63 hp. The power curve is both explored and exploited by the Pankl Racing Systems 5-speed gearbox that benefits from a sensor which permits specific engine maps for each gear. A 44 mm Keihin throttle is key to the sensitive and confidence-inspiring way to summon the most of the KTM 450 SMR powerplant.

Unrivalled handling comes through a special chromium molybdenum steel frame, fabricated by robotic laser-welding for the utmost precision and quality and the meld of perfect torsion and flex characteristics. The 16 mm offset geometry brings a natural and attackable sensation through the CNC-machined triple clamps with a three-way adjustable handlebar.

Supermoto is about living on the limits of adhesion. To make the most of this thrilling vibe, KTM has equipped the bike with a long list of premium quality parts. To that end WP Suspension XACT technology helps the 2022 KTM 450 SMR both stick and slide as the forces of physics drive through the Supermoto 16.5″ /17″ ALPINA light, spoked tubeless wheels and Bridgestone slick tyres. Ultimate braking performance is achieved with a premium Brembo 4-piston radial caliper and master cylinder set-up with 310 mm and 220 mm front and rear discs.

For 2022, the KTM 450 SMR introduces a frame finishing coated in racing orange to further reinforce the proximity to the race winning machines of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing stars. The updated frame aligns perfectly with the new blue seat cover and the fresh colors in the graphics to emphasise visually the close link to KTM’s Factory machinery.

2022 KTM 450 SMR – HIGHLIGHTS
// Ultra-light chromoly steel frame with new finishing coated in racing orange
// Upgraded aesthetics with racing graphics and factory blue seat
// Advanced four-stroke 450cc powerplant with 63 hp weighing 27 kg

Kawasaki Z650 energized for 2022 with World Champion seal of approval

Running under the tagline Energize from its launch, the twin-cylinder, water-cooled Z650 is a key mid-capacity model for Kawasaki. In a market that demands performance, an energizing ride and real owner and machine engagement, the Z650 excels.

Appealing to a wide range of potential riders, the Z650 is A2 licence category compliant, inspiring confidence in not just those relatively new to two wheels but even seasoned riders; in fact the Z650 is the machine that six time World Superbike champion, Jonathan Rea, recently chose to ride for his basic training in advance of taking his road motorcycle test.

Equipped as standard with LED lighting and a low emission Euro5 compliant engine, the styling and technical features of the Z650 automatically denote this as a strong member of the iconic Z family. Sugomi design is an equal marriage of styling and engineering manifesting itself in the sharp chin spoiler, muscular radiator shrouds and aggressive angular lines of the machine which also benefits from a narrow profile that inspires rider confidence.

Technically the Z650 utilises a highly praised colour TFT meter panel that not only conveys information clearly but also has an integrated Bluetooth chip allowing riders to pair their motorcycle with their smartphone using Kawasaki’s Rideology App to access an array of machine data and other information.

As rewarding for those climbing the capacity ladder as those that have been riding for many years – and even multiple World Champions – the Z650 will be available in early October in three editions, Standard, Performance and new for 2022, Urban, which comes equipped with a top box. The 2022 Z650 will be available in three colour options:

  • Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black (Standard – £6,949, Urban – £7,169, Performance – £8,449)
  • Candy Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black (Standard – £7,049, Urban – £7,269, Performance – £8,549)
  • Pearl Robotic White/Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray (Standard – £7,049, Urban – £7,269, Performance – £8,549)

XENA Motorcycle Security Products

The increasing theft rates have made motorbike security locks a need of time without which motorbikes are extremely prone to thefts. The market is flooded with cheap & unreliable locks that can easily be bypassed in a minute. Therefore, we are trying out a number of Xena Security items during a motorcycle test. The look at the Xena XX14 bluetooth disc lock, XSU series stainless steel locks, steel chain, chain adaptor and ground anchor.

The first & most important part of the package is the Xena XX14 bluetooth disc lock. The Xena disc lock series is available in several configurations and the XX14 is the second most heavy-duty lock that is compatible mostly with bigger bikes (we have previously tested the bigger brother XX15). The stainless-steel mono-bloc has a built-in beefy 14 mm carbide-reinforced pin which is then operated by a key. Once locked, and turned on via the app the sensitive motion & shock sensor inside the lock are delicate enough to sound the alarm even if someone slightly moves the bike. Having already setup the XX15 on my phone it was easy to setup the XX14 (you can have more than one item setup) but if first time it can initially be a bit fiddly to setup. In our previous test of the XX15 once I figured out that the Xena has to be locked and in position on the disc to enable the bluetooth all was good. You can of course still use the lock as a standard disc lock without bluetooth or the alarm. The 120dB sound alarm is pretty loud to scare away the thief and to alert the people around the bike. The alarm & battery settings can be configured via the mobile app and the Lithium cell can be replaced easily using the key. The Xena XX14 is not only compatible with several motorbikes but it will also pass the test of time thanks to its corrosion-resistant body & the pin.

The Xena XX14 disc lock provides excellent security, but there’s always room for improvement and that is where the chain adaptor and the chain itself come into play. The Xena chain adaptor and the chain are sold as separate accessory items with the XX14 lock, and they are a great choice if you want to firmly secure your motorbike. The chain adaptor might look a bit thin from a distance, but it is quite resistant against attacks from a wedge or even a heavy-duty plier. Note, the chain adaptor isn’t compatible with the XX15 but I’m sure they will bring a larger one out.

Once the chain adaptor is firmly in place, it is then time to hook it to Xena’s hardened steel chains (with the paddock). Xena steel chains are available in different configurations and all of them work just fine, though, a thicker chain would be a better choice if you want extra protection. Moreover, all the Xena chains are corrosion resistant and covered with a nylon sleeve just so they don’t rattle & corrode as much as they do without a sleeve.

The final step to secure your bike by a chain is to use either a lock or a ground anchor and thankfully Xena has got both the products for you. Xena’s XSU series stainless steel locks have got the strength and the ability to firmly lock up a chain wrapped around a motorbike. Both the lock and the chrome shackle are hardened to make them more resistant to fractures. Available in three different configurations, the Xena locks are designed and made to go perfectly well with Xena steel chains (and disc lock with chain adaptor) which make these locks a must-buy in conjunction with Xena steel chains.

A padlock is a necessary item to secure a motorbike outside a garage (in conjunction with padlock and chain) a ground anchor is a better choice when it comes to securing a motorbike in a garage, driveway or on patio in our case. The XGA ground anchor by Xena is made just for this purpose and it can be installed very easily using just a 20mm drill bit (which you will need to buy separately if like me you only had a 12mm). The nearly 2kg heavy anchor can safely be driven over when flat and its single bolt holds to the ground securely. With a pulling strength of over 3-tonnes, the XGA ground anchor will secure any motorbike effortlessly.

Overall, Xena motorbike security products are made for each other and therefore can be used easily with one another. The availability of such a diverse range of options makes it easier to secure a motorbike at any place that ultimately provides peace of mind to the owner and allows him to fully delve into his tasks without thinking time & again about the safety of his prized motorbike.

My only slight niggle is if your going to buy the full package different coloured key covers for each item or something to indicate which key belongs to which item as the keys are pretty much identical. For example I had the XX15, XX14 disc locks and padlock on a bike, it got very confusing with which key went which product in the end I scratched into the plastic the identity of each item.

This isn’t a niggl but more advice the chain is really heavy so if you plan to take it with you on a ride bare that in mind.

The XX14 Bluetooth Alarmed Disk Lock, Chain, Ground Anchor and Padlock were supplied to us by Motohaus.com. The XX14 Bluetooth Alarmed Disk Lock retails for £100 – including VAT. To purchase visit www.motohaus.com

The All New Royal Enfield Classic 350 – A Legend Reborn

Royal Enfield has been a symbol of resilience, purposeful longevity, and authenticity since 1901. It has preserved the legacy of building simple, harmonious motorcycles by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, to create pure motorcycling experiences. In its 120th year, Royal Enfield re-envisions its iconic motorcycle, the Classic, with the launch of the All-New Royal Enfield Classic 350 in its home Indian market today  – a timeless motorcycle reimagined to meet modern aspirations.

The all-new Classic 350 adds yet another new chapter to Royal Enfield’s legacy of building authentic post-war era British motorcycles that are loved by enthusiasts around the world. The design inspiration of the Classic range can be dated all the way back to 1948 with the groundbreaking Royal Enfield Model G2, the first to have swinging arm rear suspension on a full production motorcycle. As dependable as it was beautiful, the Model G2 served as a strong design inspiration for the hugely popular Classic 500 launched in 2008. The Classic 500 went on to help redefine the middleweight motorcycling space and was an integral part of the revival of Royal Enfield, up until the production of the dependable UCE 500 engine was stopped in 2020. Over a span of 12 years, more than 3 million Classic 500 were produced, building an incredible legacy of its own – and now, the new Classic 350 is all set to take up the mantle and further build upon the legend.

Speaking about the legacy of the Classic, and commenting on the launch of the all-new Royal Enfield Classic 350, Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors Ltd. said, “The Classic launched in 2008, was a modern and capable motorcycle that symbolized the timeless post-war styling from the heydays of the British motorcycle industry. It’s captivating design language and simplicity coupled with dependability, catapulted the Classic to global popularity, and it went on to redefine the middleweight (250-750cc) motorcycle segment.

We’ve paid great attention to every aspect of the motorcycle, right from its stunning look, to the perfection in parts and the touchpoints, to its impeccable riding performance. The engine is super smooth, intuitively responsive and engaging, and has that gorgeous growl on acceleration. The all-new chassis lends enormous confidence while riding, with surefooted handling and agile braking. The motorcycle feels in control and well-mannered around tight corners. The motorcycle is, without a doubt, class-leading, and feels incredibly refined and enjoyable to ride

Through our history, we have been consistent in our pursuit to build timeless, beautiful motorcycles that are great fun to ride, and the new Classic 350 does just that. The all-new Classic 350 combines this quintessential, retro design with a modern and refined ride experience. We are confident that the all-new Classic 350 will once again redefine the mid-size motorcycle space globally”

Powered by the modern 349cc air-oil cooled single cylinder engine, launched recently on the Meteor 350, the all-new Classic 350 brings in a new level of comfort, smoothness and refinement to the ride experience. The Classic 350 generates 20.2 bhp of power at 6100rpm and a torque of 27Nm at 4000rpm, resulting in a strong low-end grunt and super smooth linear power delivery across the band. With the primary balancer shaft that cuts down the vibrations, the reborn Classic 350 feels smooth and well-mannered on road. The gear shifting is crisp, smooth and relaxed, thanks to the optimized 5-speed gearbox that ensures strong in-city acceleration, as well as a relaxed ride at cruising speed. Much to the joy of Royal Enfield enthusiasts, the new Classic 350 retains the unmistakable thump of the exhaust note.

Designed and developed by teams of designers and engineers based at Royal Enfield’s two state-of-the-art technology centres, in India and the UK – the Classic 350 is a product of true collaboration across continents. The all-new chassis is built for superior comfort and maneuverability – designed to be stiffer, the chassis encourages more confidence at higher cornering speeds, and feels planted and stable on straight roads. The front and rear suspension has been extensively developed for more comfortable saddle time. With better ride ergonomics and more confident braking, the Classic feels agile and responsive – further enhancing the riding experience.

All new variants of the Classic 350 – coming to the European market – will be equipped with dual channel ABS and rear disc brakes. For more comfortable hours on the saddle, the new Classic has new, wider seats with soft-foam cushion padding – including a pillion seat as standard for all new model variants. With brand new handlebars, the riding position has been subtly tweaked to further improve comfort whilst maintaining that familiar Classic feeling. Bringing in the modern touch is the new digi-analog instrument cluster that houses an LCD info panel. A USB charging point will be mounted below the handlebar for the convenience of quick charging on the go.

The new Classic 350 will be available with a wide array of Genuine Motorcycle Accessories, designed and developed to complement its versatility as well as to enhance comfort, utility and style. The suite of new accessories for Classic 350 is purpose-driven and includes a range of bespoke options that have been designed for specific themes that allow the rider to enhance the form and function of the motorcycle as per their preference. Royal Enfield’s motorcycle accessories come with a comprehensive 3-year warranty and are designed, developed and certified alongside the motorcycle. For further individual self-expression, a selection of riding gear, including helmets, t-shirts, and lifestyle accessories have been designed inspired by the Classic 350.

The new Classic 350 is set to be unveiled for the first time on European soil at this year’s EICMA in Milan, this November. Building on the phenomenal European success of the Meteor 350, the Classic 350 further strengthens Royal Enfield’s product offering to the mid-sized segment – delivering yet more appealing and accessible options for riders of all age and experience.

Triumph Motorcycles Launches Ride Out To Help Out Campaign

Triumph Motorcycles is launching ‘Ride Out to Help Out’, a campaign to encourage the biking community to visit and nominate small businesses up and down the country that have faced months of closure and uncertainty during the pandemic.

The campaign, which kicks off on 6 September, will celebrate the ride out destinations at the heart of the motorcycling community, from cafés and chip shops, to pubs and ice cream vans. They all provide a great excuse for a ride out and by nominating a venue, or riding out to one, all riders can help these fantastic independent businesses to get back on their feet.

To launch the campaign, Triumph dealers and some of the brand’s ambassadors including Victoria Pendleton, George North, Maria Costello MBE and George Clarke have been nominating their favourite spots for a ride out.

Below is a sample of the venues nominated so far – the full list is available to view on the Triumph website here.

  • Koti Autotalli, Oxfordshire
  • Oily Rag, Gloucestershire
  • Woodchester Mansion, Gloucestershire
  • East Coast Gelato, Hunstanton
  • Baffle Haus, Pontypool
  • Bike Shed, London
  • Ryka’s Café, Surrey (we nominated Ryka’s Café)
  • Super Sausage Café, Northamptonshire

There is no limit to the number of locations that can be involved in the campaign, and now Triumph is looking for the community to nominate their own favourite spots.

Riders can put forward their best-loved locations in two ways. Firstly, by visiting the Triumph nomination page at www.rideouttohelpout.com to register the venue. Alternatively, riders can simply share their favourite destination on social media using the hashtag #RideOutToHelpOut.

All the businesses nominated to take part in the campaign will be promoted via the Triumph website and social media channels.

Devron Boulton, Triumph UK & Ireland General Manager, said: “The last 18 months have affected us all in many ways. Now we’re able to ride freely with friends again, the Ride Out to Help Out campaign is a fantastic way of encouraging more bikers from further afield to visit the hidden gems that have been nominated. It’s time to grab our helmets and show our support.”

The website will remain live into 2022 to allow riders to saddle up, discover and share places to ride in their surrounding areas and across the UK.

Updated ADVance Guards for BMW 1250 GS Adventure

Machineart has updated its ADVance Guard handguards for the BMW R1250 GS Adventure, so they’re now even tougher and lighter than before, yet can still be quickly adapted to suit weather and riding conditions.

ADVance Guard V2 is based on the original versatile and unique design, but with a new and improved frame material – a super tough Nylon composite that’s even stronger than the previous generation aluminum frame, yet significantly lighter.

The Guards feature patented multi-functional adjustability, so can be adapted to suit weather and riding conditions in seconds, without the need for any tools.

They consist of three main components:

  1. A wide composite Safety Frame with an open airflow front;
  2. An Insert that fills the open front when snapped in;
  3. A Sliding Shield that is adjustable up and down, to control airflow

Used without the Insert or Shield attached, the open centre allows cooling air flow over the hands on warmer days.

In lower temperatures, in rain or snow – or if the rider wants further protection from debris – the snap-in Insert instantly fills the open front, offering extra coverage for the hands.

Should the rider need even more protection, the Sliding Shield can be raised to give additional coverage; fully extending to 142mm.

However the rider chooses to set ADVance Guards, the wide Nylon Composite safety frame provides protection for hands, brake and clutch levers during a drop, and shields against impact with branches and other obstacles.

Quick and easy to fit, the Guards attach to the bar end and handlebar with lightweight and robust mounts that are specifically shaped to clear control cables. Each pair comes with everything needed to fit and full instructions.

Machineart ADVance Guard V2 retail at £219- per pair including VAT. They’re currently available for the BMW R1250 GS Adventure, R1200 GS LC Adventure, R1200/1250 GS, F650/700/800/Adventure and the R1200R LC, with fitments for other popular adventure models available and more due to be added soon.

BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY

As a completely new concept between bicycle and motorbike, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY taps into fresh possibilities for the innovative, urban mobility of the future. It is one of five different concept vehicles that the BMW Group will use at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich to showcase its vision of individual mobility in and around the urban setting.

Under the common umbrella of electric mobility, digitalisation and sustainability, these five pioneering concepts form a versatile and sustainably conceived mobility mix on two and four wheels that comprehensively addresses a highly diverse range of mobility needs.

BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY and BMW i Vision AMBY.
AMBY stands for “Adaptive Mobility”. The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY and the BMW i Vision AMBY (see BMW i Vision AMBY press release) interpret the fundamental idea of adaptive urban mobility on two wheels based on differing facets. Both vehicles are electrically powered with three speed levels for different types of road. The drive allows up to 25 km/h on cycle paths, up to 45 km/h on inner-city roads and up to a top speed of 60 km/h on multi-lane roads and out of town. A helmet, insurance licence plates and the relevant driving licence are required to be able to travel at higher speeds, however. While the BMW i Vision AMBY as a high-speed pedelec requires constant pedalling in order to gain assistance from the electric drive, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY is accelerated using the throttle grip and has footrests instead of pedals, as is typical of a motorcycle.

The modes available to the rider are stored in the app on the smartphone that connects to the respective AMBY vision vehicle.

Manual selection of the speed level is conceivable, as is detection of the road by means of geofencing technology, thereby allowing automatic adjustment of the top speed. As there is currently no legal basis for such a vehicle with a modular speed concept, the idea behind the AMBY vision vehicles is to prompt legislation that will enable this kind of set-up. In this way, the BMW Group is demonstrating that it will continue to be involved in providing mobility options in big cities in the future and offers innovative solutions.

New stimuli for emotional mobility on two wheels.
“The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY takes us into new territory. For us, the focus is on user behaviour – the question is: how will customers want to get around in the future? What will they expect their vehicle to be capable of? This was precisely the starting point of our deliberations. Our aim was to develop an extremely emotional vehicle for smart mobility in and around the city that offered maximum freedom. The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY really does enable our customers to experience urban life in a whole new way, cover distances more flexibly and “break free” of the city from time to time, too. At the same time, BMW Motorrad is consistently pursuing its electromobility strategy for urban conurbations. It’s a fascinating introduction to the world of BMW Motorrad that also promises maximum riding pleasure,” explains Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design BMW Motorrad.

The design – the DNA of BMW Motorrad.
The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY defies all existing categories: visually akin to the world of bicycles, it is a motorbike at heart. Its slender proportions promise ruggedness and adventure, while its design suggests clear echoes of the expressive style and layout of an BMW Enduro motorbike. With chunky treads on both the 26-inch front wheel, which has a thinner tyre, and the 24-inch rear wheel with its more rounded tyre, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY clearly shows that it is both willing and able to go anywhere. The firmly integrated seat with a height of 830 mm is just as typical a motorbike feature as the fixed footrests.

The seat also acts as a design element over the flat, rising upper frame section, creating a striking flyline. This produces a completely new, fresh look for BMW Motorrad – a link between the e-bike and motorbike world.
The large energy storage unit and drive unit form a dark graphic block at the centre of the frame.

The large-dimensioned bicycle fork on the front wheel features protectors and gives the entire front section a more massive, powerful look. A small headlight with the U-shaped BMW Motorrad light signature is a clear reference to the roots of the concept, as is the double LED element as a tail light. Another BMW Motorrad feature is that the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY is accelerated from the handlebars, as is customary on a motorbike.
With a total weight of just 65 kg, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY is significantly lighter than other motorbikes, ensuring it offers excellent manoeuvrability and agility.

Colour and material concept featuring depth and unexpected details.
As compared to a conventional combustion engine, the concept of the electric drive in the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY means there is little in the way of visible mechanics.
For this reason, its technical heart is deliberately disguised and showcased in a striking machine-like style. This accentuates the highly elaborated colour and material concept, which goes well beyond the traditional dark underlying colour scheme and use of white highlights.

In its use of materials, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY cross-references two other concept vehicles that will also see their world premiere at the IAA Mobility 2021: The BMW i Vision Circular and the BMW i Vision AMBY. The trim material used on the energy storage unit – known as “floating grey polymers” – is also used in the bumper of the BMW i Vision Circular. It consists of recycled plastic and can itself be fed back into the material cycle at the end of the product lifecycle. Meanwhile the material used for the seat is also to be found in the saddle of the BMW i Vision AMBY and in the tyres of the BMW i Vision Circular. Based on recycled plastic granulate and sporting a fascinating terrazzo look, it demonstrates how several materials can be given a second life with a new form and function.

Asymmetrical design of the sides of the vehicle.
In keeping with the unexpected, self-assured character of the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY, its two sides have deliberately been designed distinctively. On both sides, the white “AMBY” lettering catches the eye above the light-coloured drive unit, making a striking statement as a stylised graphic on the trim of the energy storage unit. While the lettering on the left gains additional visual depth from a colourfully shimmering, iridescent drop shadow, the inscription on the right appears deliberately without a drop shadow. Below the energy storage unit there are two iridescent elements that add a further accentuation.

On the right-hand side of the vehicle, three small turquoise blue tubes visibly emerge from the silhouette, clearly alluding to the electric heart of the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY. Next to this is a quote by Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad: „Electro-mobility will be very significant for the future of motorcycling. We foresee a slew of upcoming products with a focus on electric propulsion, particularly in the field of urban mobility. And I’m not only thinking of classic scooters here, but also of alternative modern, emotional products. Electro-mobility on two wheels needs to be really fun and adventurous and BMW is committed to developing corresponding products.”

On closer inspection, the interplay between the technoid pixel font with the classic serif font reflects a great attention to detail at several points: together these bridge the gap between the past and the future – just like the vision vehicle itself. The coordinates on the right are a reference to the BMW Motorrad Design Studio in Munich, where the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY came into being. On the opposite side, the letters “AMBY” also appear in Morse code, but with dashes visualising the dots. In their perfect interplay, all these carefully conceived details create a unique graphic and a highly contemporary sense of style.

The smartphone as the key.
The specially developed app enables the user to activate the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY for riding, read in their stored driving licence classes and make use of the appropriate insurance cover on an on-demand basis as required. In this way, the app performs the classic key function while also making use of the customary identification options provided by the smartphone such as Face ID. Basic functions and status queries (e.g. current charge status) are available as in the BMW App. Further developments and adjustments to the software can be provided to customers at any time via over-the-air updates.
The smartphone shown in the vision vehicle charges inductively on the magnetic holder in the rider’s lower field of vision. These connectivity options would also allow anti-theft protection and the freely programmable immobiliser to be offered as basic functions.
And the answer to the question “Where is my BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY?” would be just a click away on the smartphone, too.

Geofencing as a key technology.
Instead of choosing the riding mode yourself, geofencing technology combined with the detailed HERE map service could provide the required parameters for automatically adjusting speed levels (25/45/60 km/h) and the matching insurance cover. This technology enables the vehicle to detect the type of road, cycle path or slow-traffic area currently being used so that the maximum permitted speed can be automatically adjusted. In this way, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY would transform from a vehicle similar to an S-pedelec to something that is more motorcycle-inspired. The user cannot override the mode. The required licence plate takes the form of an innovative display surface, so the mode selected at any given time can be easily recognised and read by other road users.

Additional technological innovations are conceivable for the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY, too: an optimised ABS system could further increase safety, as could an automatic high beam or brake light assistant, as well as daytime running lights. A tyre pressure monitoring system such as the one already available as an optional extra in BMW Group motorcycles is also conceivable. Finally, potential safety features could also include a distance radar with a range of up to 140 m to provide a visual and acoustic warning in the app when there is a vehicle approaching from behind.

The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY shows one possible manifestation of what the modern, urban mobility of tomorrow might look like. It is intended as a blueprint to drive forward conversations about future-oriented travel in cities.

Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Piaggio Sign Swappable Battery Agreement

Following the signing of the Letter of Intent on March 1, HONDA Motor Co., KTM F&E GmbH, Ltd., PIAGGIO Group (PIA.MI) and YAMAHA Motor Co., Ltd., have officially signed the agreement for the creation of the Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium (SBMC).

Committed to the promotion of the widespread use of light electric vehicles, such as mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles in the transport sector and to the more sustainable life-cycle management of batteries in the context of international climate policies, the founding members of the Consortium believe that the availability of a commonly developed swappable battery systems is key to the development of low-voltage electromobility.

The underlying aim of the Consortium is to find solutions to the concerns customers may have regarding the future of electromobility, such as the range, the charging time and infrastructure, and costs. This will be achieved in accordance with four primary goals:

  1. Develop common technical specifications of the swappable battery systems
  2. Confirm common usage of the battery systems
  3. Make, and promote, the Consortium’s common specifications as a standard within European and International standardization bodies
  4. Expand the use of the Consortium’s common specification to global level

By working closely with interested stakeholders and National, European and International standardization bodies, the founding members of the Consortium will be involved in the creation of international technical standards. Indeed, the availability of charging stations varies between countries and there is still limited information for end users. Therefore, with this Consortium, HONDA, KTM, PIAGGIO and YAMAHA aim at
engaging the decision makers for the development and deployment of charging infrastructure to promote the increase of light electric vehicles.

The four founding members encourage all interested stakeholders to join the cooperation to enrich the Consortium’s expertise in order to ensure a large diffusion of standard swappable batteries in the future. Parties who are interested to join the SBMC can contact one of the founding members for further information.

Yoshishige Nomura, Chief Officer, Motorcycle Operations, Honda Motor Co., Ltd.:  Honda believes that the widespread adoption of electric motorcycles can play an important part in realising a more sustainable society. For that purpose, we need to solve several challenges such as extending the range, shortening the charging time and lowering the vehicle and infrastructure costs to enhance convenience for customers. In the Consortium we have created, the founding members from the motorcycle industry and other stakeholders will work together towards standardizing swappable batteries, their charging systems and surrounding infrastructure to create the environment for their use. Our final goal is to ensure that motorcycles will continue to be chosen as a useful method of transportation in future mobility

Stefan Pierer, CEO PIERER Mobility AG: “The signing of this Consortium agreement is a key step in ensuring that PIERER Mobility AG, can continue to move forward, deliver innovation at pace, and advance its clear strategic vision for electric powered two-wheelers. Together with our partners, we will work to deliver a swappable battery system for low-voltage vehicles (48V) up to 11kW capacity, based on international technical standards. We very much look forward to ensuring that powered two-wheeler vehicles maintain their role in the future of both urban and non-urban mobility

Michele Colaninno, Chief of strategy and product of Piaggio Group: “Urban mobility is going through a delicate moment of transition towards electrification. Thanks to our Consortium, representing four major global players, motorbikes will continue to play a key role in the urban context. Swappable batteries give the right answer to speed up the recharging time of vehicles offering an additional valuable choice for users. Urban mobility is part of the Piaggio DNA and history: our aim is to bring all our technological know-how and attitude for innovation to the Consortium.”

Takuya Kinoshita, Senior Executive Officer, Chief General Manager of Land Mobility Business Operations, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.: “The Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium in Europe is finally ready to get to work. I hope that this first step forward will be a beacon that draws like-minded parties to our mission and leads to transformative changes for the future. We at Yamaha Motor are confident that through this initiative, we can help unify the differing technical specs and standards and contribute to maximizing the merits of electric power for customers around the world.”

Ventura Supercharge Touring

Praised for its comfort, poise and of course performance, Kawasaki’s Z H2 SE is more than capable of munching miles.

The supercharged super naked is lacking in one crucial area though: carrying capability, so Ventura have added the Kawasaki to its Evo Luggage system fitment list.

Originally developed for sportsbike riders, who wanted luggage that was light, stable and wouldn’t upset handling, Ventura has proved ideal for carrying kit on naked street bikes with minimalist rear-ends, like the H2 SE.

Carrying a passenger (left) Riding Solo (right)

Ventura’s Evo System is made up of just three elements:

  1. Discreet L-Brackets – tailor made for the Z H2 and which attach to existing mounts;
  2. An Evo Rack – offering a stable and secure platform for the luggage;
  3. The Evo Pack – which simply slides on and clips in place.

Unlike soft luggage, the Pack won’t move around – even when riding hard – thanks to the ‘sleeve-fitting’ system. It is quick and easy to remove and remount the Pack too.

When riding solo, the Pack is carried directly behind the rider and close to the bike’s centre of gravity, helping to keep the motorcycle well balanced. When a passenger is on board, it can be re-positioned behind the pillion seat in seconds.

Both options carry the load well clear of the Z H2’s rear wheel and unlike panniers there’s no extra width added to the bike – leaving the rider free to filter and enabling easy access to tight parking spots.

When luggage isn’t needed, the Pack and Rack can be removed in seconds, leaving only the L-brackets in place and the Z H2’s clean lines uncluttered. There’s also the option to replace the Rack with a Grab Handle.

Packs come in various sizes, from the handy 12-litre Evo-12 to the massive 60-litre Evo-60 Jet Stream. Each one is made from water-resistant and durable laminated ballistic fabric, with wide openings for quick and easy access to contents and aerodynamic shaping to cheat the wind.

A typical system for the H2 SE – consisting of the L-Brackets, Evo Rack and an Evo-22 Jet Stream Pack – retails at £418.50 including VAT.
