METZELER CRUISETEC™ tyres chosen as exclusive Original Equipment of the New Indian® Challenger motorcycle

The strong collaboration between the German tyre brand and the legendary U.S. motorcycle manufacturer includes extensive joint development support for this muscular and refined ‘bagger’

The collaboration between METZELER and Indian® Motorcycle has been strengthened with the German tyre brand chosen as a development partner and supplier for the latest and most powerful bagger of the U.S. motorcycle manufacturer. The METZELER CRUISETEC™ tyres were selected, after a long process of joint development between the Research & Development and Testing departments of the two brands, resulting in exclusive original equipment designation for the new 2020 Indian Challenger.

Indian Challenger & Metzeler Cruisetec
CRUISETEC™ tyres, installed with the 130 / 60B19 66H front and 180 / 60R16 80H rear sizes, are equipping all versions of the new Indian Challenger, including the Dark Horse and Limited models.

METZELER has been involved with Indian® Motorcycle since the start of the project, actively participating in the development of the motorcycle by offering its contribution to refining and improving the riding experience.

All this has been possible thanks to the collaborative work between the technicians of METZELER and those of Indian® Motorcycle, who have succeeded in establishing a perfect harmony between the CRUISETEC™ tyres and the new Challenger, ultimately creating an inseparable combination. The new Challenger was developed to fit and perform at its best with CRUISETEC™ tyres.

Indian Challenger & Metzeler Cruisetec

The Indian Challenger dramatically redefines American baggers and represents the highest expression of Indian® Motorcycle technology with its die-cast aluminum frame, radially-mounted Brembo 4-piston caliper brakes, a chassis equipped with inverted front suspension, and mono shock suspension with hydraulic preload. A refined electronics package offers three riding modes and assistance systems with a 6-axis inertial platform and the most powerful engine ever produced by the U.S. company. The all-new liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twin PowerPlus engine is 108 cubic-inches (or 1769cc) and produces122 horsepower and 128 ft-lbs. of torque.

Taming such power can be challenging, but the Indian Challenger found an excellent ally in METZELER CRUISETEC™ tyres. CRUISETEC™ was developed to take advantage of the full performance potential of power cruisers, custom, and tourers thanks to the high level of grip, even in wet conditions. As a result, CRUISETEC™ tires give the bike revolutionary handling in its segment, constant performance for the entire tyre life, and structural characteristics that provide a comfortable, stable ride. Like the Indian Challenger in its segment, CRUISETEC™also presents revolutionary solutions in the tire sector in terms of tread design, compounds, profiles, and carcass.

A winning hand from METZELER: four new tyres for 2020

SPORTEC™ M9 RR, ROADTEC™ 01 SE, RACETEC™ TD Slick and ROADTEC™ Scooter are the new products to join the brand’s range in their relative segments

METZELER, always at the forefront of research and technological innovation, announces that, in 2020, it will broaden its range with four new tyre models.
SPORTEC™ M9 RR, ROADTEC™ 01 SE, RACETEC™ TD Slick and ROADTEC™ Scooter are the new products strengthening the brand’s range in their relative segments.

SPORTEC™ M9 RR is the successor of the multi-award-winning SPORTEC™ M7 RR, still considered a benchmark in the Supersport segment. ROADTEC™ 01 SE represents the evolution of ROADTEC 01, available in radial sizes for owners of naked, supersport and sport-touring bikes who are looking for improved handling and sportier performance. RACETEC™ TD Slick is the new slick tyre for track-day lovers and club racers. Finally, ROADTEC™ Scooter, the chosen heir of the FEELFREE™ family, is designed for urban mobility, commuting and the sport-touring use typical of the ROADTEC™product family.

SPORTEC™ M9 RR – Ride the unexpected
SPORTEC™ M9 RR is without doubt the most keenly awaited release for all supersport riders who have had the chance to appreciate the already excellent experience offered by the SPORTEC™ M7 RR,with SPORTEC™ M9 RR bringing further performance improvements across the board. SPORTEC™ M9 RR, as you may guess from the name, has a strong connection to its predecessor and its roots. The name SPORTEC™ identifies the range of sports road tyres designed for day-to-day use and to guarantee a great riding experience, safety and versatility. RR stands for Road Racing and immediately brings to mind the iconic Isle of Man TT competition, won this year by champion Dean Harrison on METZELER tyres. Road racing competitions bring to mind not only performance but also the typical characteristics associated with use of road bikes, i.e. unpredictable weather and road-surface conditions. This is the concept behind the claim for the new product, “Ride the unexpected”.

SPORTEC™ M9 RR perfectly combines the typical versatility of day-to-day use with the brand’s competitive experience in road racing, building on the important legacy of the SPORTEC™ M7 RR, a tyre that boasts an impressive list of awards and recognitions. This is completed with the most recent technological advances from the German brand’s research and development activity.
One of the most pervasive innovations in motorcycle technology from introduction of the SPORTEC™ M7 RR has been the development of electronic rider-assist technology, supported by sophisticated sensors that offer riders greater security, regardless of the type of motorcycle. In this context, tyres play a fundamental role in allowing the electronics to interpret the true behaviour of the vehicle and calibrate it to offer the best riding experience and optimum performance. The biggest challenge for the METZELER Research and Development Centre was to adapt the dynamic performance of the SPORTEC™ M9 RRto a wide range of motorcycles, allowing electronic rider assistance systems to function properly.

SPORTEC™ M9 RR has been designed for motorcyclists, primarily owners of supersport and naked bikes, with a sporty driving style and who use their bikes almost every day and in all conditions, from the urban jungle to the winding weekend roads, and are looking for improved performance: riders who want a great driving experience and sporty performance even in wet conditions, primarily on the road but with the option to take their bike on the track as well. These riders need a sports tyre that provides precise and reliable feedback while they enjoy their bike’s performance.
The full SPORTEC™ M9 RRrange includes 3 front tyres sizes and 9 rear.

ROADTEC™ 01 SE – The sporty side of touring
Following the success of the multi-award-winning ROADTEC™ 01 since 2015 in the sport-touring tyre segment, METZELER has decided to introduce the new ROADTEC™ 01 SE.
The ROADTEC™ 01 SE radial range completes METZELER’s catalogue, consolidating the strengths of the ROADTEC™ 01—its exceptional performance in wet conditions and high mileage—enhancing sports characteristics in terms of the grip and agility needed by supersport, naked and sport-touring riders.
To meet sports requirements that imply high performance at sharp leaning angles, the tread design for the ROADTEC™ 01 SEbuilds on that of the ROADTEC™ 01, with evolution towards a tyre with a slicker shoulder, optimising drive with a greater surface area in contact with the asphalt.

The front models of the ROADTEC™ 01 SE inherit the latest version of the full-silica compound used for the ROADTEC™ 01 and feature the same tread pattern in the middle section, a key aspect of its exceptional grip on low-friction surfaces. The shoulders are slicker, and the relative structural refinement optimises performance through half and full lean, improving agility and steering stability.

The rear models of the ROADTEC™ 01 SE use a bi-compoundand, as for the front, feature a sportier evolution of the ROADTEC™ 01 tread pattern, aimed at offering greater drive at sharper leaning angles together with comfort and driving pleasure capable of satisfying even the most demanding riders, on long routes and winding roads. ROADTEC™ 01 and ROADTEC™ 01 SE: two products perfect for any adventurer with a sports attitude.

RACETEC™ TD Slick
RACETEC™ TD Slick joins the range of METZELER™ racing slick tyres, dedicated to riders and club racers for competition and training use.
RACETEC™ TD Slick is a slick tyre for the track that is quick and easy to use. It can also be used without tyre warmers and does not require any special bike set-up to offer optimal performance. The key features of the RACETEC™ TD Slick include optimal performance, uniformity of yield even after several sessions, versatility for different track surfaces and operating temperatures, high resistance to abrasion and the option to reverse the direction of rotation of the rear tyres between sessions if the circuit configuration generates more wear on one side.
RACETEC™ TD Slickhas been designed for riders that want the advantages of a slick product but without the need for additional racing equipment (stands, tyre warmers, generators, etc.) or a highly tuned bike set-up and suspension, as are normally needed with slick racing tyres.

RACETEC™ TD Slick is therefore aimed at all riders who do not want to go without slick tyres on the track, at expert riders who want a plug-and-play product for long free sessions, and at club riders who need a tyre with endurance mileage and an excellent quality/price ratio that allows them to focus on improving lap times for the whole race weekend.
The new tyre will be available in four sizes at 17 inches: 120/70 front and 180/55, 190/55 and 200/55 rear.

ROADTEC™ Scooter
ROADTEC™ Scooter is the new tyre developed by METZELER for all types of scooters with wheels from 10 to 16 inches. ROADTEC™ Scooter boasts extreme flexibility and versatility, meets the broadest range of weather, temperature and road-surface conditions, in urban areas and beyond.
The development of the ROADTEC™ Scooter naturally took inspiration from the ROADTEC™ 01, with optimisation of features for scooter use. The full range includes 51 sizes, and ROADTEC™ Scooter will gradually replace the current METZELER catalogue, including FEELFREE™, FEELFREE™ WINTEC and ME 7 TEEN™, with a single product offering optimum performance.
More specifically, ROADTEC™ Scooter, compared to the products it will replace, guarantees greater grip on wet and low-friction surfaces, use under a greater range of temperatures and improved handling.

The tread design of this new tyre is directly based on the ROADTEC™ 01, specifically developed to allow use of a system partially based on siping. The primary benefits of this regard warm-up and comfort, as the siping contributes to the deformability of the tread, and first-class grip on low-friction surfaces, guaranteed by the recognisable ROADTEC 01 groove pattern.
Compared to its predecessors, ROADTEC™ Scooter features a rounder profile to increase the tread contact area, and a more rigid structure to support the profile and improve handling.
Finally, the ROADTEC™ Scooter compounds feature a high percentage of silica for greater control in wet conditions and use at a greater range of temperatures. All ROADTEC™ Scooter rear radial tyres use a bi-compound.

Maxxis to end MXGB partnership

Maxxis has confirmed that it will end its 14-year partnership with the ACU as title-sponsor of the British Motocross Championship from the 2020 season.

Maxxis to end MXGB partnership
Further to a global restructuring of the brand’s marketing and sponsorship activity, Maxxis has confirmed that it will end its 14-year partnership with the ACU as title-sponsor of the British Motocross Championship from the 2020 season.

The long-standing relationship between Maxxis and the ACU has seen the British Motocross Championship become synonymous with the tyre brand and has greatly boosted Maxxis’ brand awareness, as well as serving as a proving ground as the Maxxis range evolved over the years. Maxxis has enjoyed significant media coverage as a result of the partnership, through online coverage and print media, as well as global TV exposure thanks to the investment that Maxxis brought to the Championship.

Due to changing needs following substantial growth over the years, the Maxxis brand marketing activity will now take a more globally-focused approach to its sponsorship strategies and a shift of domestic focus to working with UK teams to rack up successes on the tyres.

Derek McMartin, Maxxis International UK’s Managing Director, said, “Maxxis and MXGB have become so synonymous in their relationship that the championship is often simply referred to colloquially as ‘the Maxxis’, which shows just how important the partnership has been for our brand.”

“We’ve enjoyed an excellent 14-year period working with the ACU as part of the country’s premier off-road series, but all good things must come to an end. As such, we are now taking a more international approach towards our marketing and brand promotion. This began this year with sponsorship of the MXGP series as well as a number of other global events, and the support and sponsorship of internationally recognised riders, including seven-time Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath who also helped us develop the new MX-ST tyre, while Mattia Guadagnini already secured this year’s Junior 125 World Championship using the MX-ST on his Maddii Racing Husqvarna.

“We would like to sincerely thank everyone at the ACU and especially all the clubs and their support staff around the UK for their help and support over the last decade and a half.”

Dunlop launch the Geomax Enduro EN91

Fresh from Colton Haaker winning the World SuperEnduro championship on their Geomax tyres, Dunlop has announced technical details of its latest generation of enduro tyre. The Dunlop Geomax Enduro EN91 builds on the knowledge gained at world championship level to deliver incredibly versatile performance for a wide range of off-road riders.

Enduro racing is characterised by long-distance time trials. The distance covered means a wide variety of terrain will be encountered, so the versatility of the tyre is crucial for success. The Geomax EN91 brings together Dunlop’s vast experience into a package that offers the highest levels of performance and durability, whether for long-distance leisure rides or professional level competition. The EN91 is also road-legal, adding to its wide repertoire.

Innovative tread design, new compound and construction

Replacing the well-proven Dunlop Geomax Enduro D909, the EN91 features a new tread pattern designed to optimise traction in sand and mud. The front tyre features an ingenious shoulder pattern for more nimble handling, reducing rider fatigue. It uses Hex Shape Blocks which have additional edges. This means more grip is generated at varying angles. Tilt Crown Block technology was developed for the rear tyre to help provide higher grip on hard terrain, such as rocks. The tilted blocks improve terrain bite, aid directional stability and increase traction by forcing rocks and dirt to gather around the centre of the crown blocks.

Durability is important for long-distance trials. Dunlop has developed a new compound with increased shearing resistance. However, this durability doesn’t compromise performance. By using a high-performance compound with a race-winning pedigree, Dunlop has also been able to significantly improve the rebound properties of the tyre. This helps maximise grip on rocky terrain. Dunlop’s Casing Tension Control System has been incorporated into the construction design. This gives greater compliance on bumps and improves the feedback to the rider.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Europe stated: “We’ve already had feedback from top riders and teams that the EN91 gives them enhanced performance over a very wide range of terrain. It proves that our objective of widening the versatility of the tyre has been achieved. From soft mud to hard rocks, EN91 has the ground covered.”

The Dunlop Geomax Enduro EN91 complements the Geomax Enduro Soft D907F which is designed for the softest conditions such as sand and wet mud. Available in 90/90-21 Front and 120/90-18 or 140/80-18 rear, the EN91 goes on sale this month across Europe.

Ready to win on a wider range of terrain: Dunlop launch all-new Geomax MX53

Dunlop has introduced Geomax MX53, replacing the MX52 hard-terrain motocross tyre. The MX53 will give riders class-leading performance on a wider range of terrain than its predecessor. The tyre sits between the ‘super-hard’ terrain MX71 and the highly versatile MX33 in Dunlop’s wide Geomax portfolio.

Race winning pedigree
This year has been an incredibly successful season for Dunlop Geomax riders. Cooper Webb (KTM) won the AMA Supercross title in a championship where every 2019 race winner chose Dunlop. Also in North America, Eli Tomac (Kawasaki) matched this feat in the Pro Motocross Championship. In the FIM World MXGP Championships, five of the last nine motos have been won by Dunlop riders, with KTM riders Max Anstie and Glenn Coldenhoff showing scorching form in the closing stages of the season. In the Women’s World Championship, Courtney Duncan dominated on her Kawasaki with Amandine Verstappen also winning the Dutch GP for Yamaha.

“This range of success shows how the Dunlop Geomax range can complement a wide range of different bikes. We are proud that many of these successes were with the standard ‘off the shelf’ Geomax MX33 and this is a tradition we aim to continue with MX53 on the hard-packed circuits. The MX53 development tyres were tuned and proven in these top-level battles during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.” said Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe.

The Dunlop Geomax MX53 features a range of new technologies with the goal of delivering winning performance on a wide range of terrain.

Increased shock absorption & lighter weight: All new construction
The construction of the tyre casing features Dunlop’s Advanced Apex Design. This was one of the secrets to the MX33 success and delivers superior shock absorption, uniform rigidity in the sidewall, and a smoother ride with a firmer feel. Critically, it delivers this without adding weight.

Traction, durability and confidence: Revolutionary tread design
Dunlop’s testing has shown a step forward on the MX52 performance on hard terrain, but even greater gains on intermediate surfaces. This is in part due to the all-new tread design.

On the front tyre, a horseshoe-shaped pattern provides enhanced braking as the claw-like blocks dig into harder terrain. The blocks are 1mm higher than on its predecessor. This would normally affect stability, but Dunlop has added tie bars between the blocks to provide consistent performance and improve durability.

The rear tyre has distinctive staggered paired blocks. This provides traction and improved acceleration – vital for winning the holeshot! The block spacing has been optimised to ensure grip on softer terrain whilst maintaining the performance on firmer, hard-packed surfaces. Luca stated: “This target of more versatile performance is a consistent theme with MX53. We know that conditions can change from lap to lap and even from corner to corner, so we’ve built on our winning MX33 philosophy of providing a wide window of top-level performance.”

For increased rider confidence at all lean angles, Dunlop’s patented Progressive Cornering Block technology allows each block to flex. This gives more biting edges under heavy cornering loads.

New compound – strength and durability
Dunlop’s work on increasing the versatility of MX53 also meant a completely different compound to the MX52 was developed. The advanced compound mix has a high number of molecular polymer particles, resulting in higher strength, meaning more durability by increasing the shear resistance.

Geomax range: more complete than ever
“We can be really proud of all the work and joint development with winning teams and riders from all over the world to create such an amazing product and line-up. Our ultimate objective is to deliver the best tyres for riders who share our passion for motocross and our constant search for improvement. With the addition of the MX53, our Geomax range is now more complete than ever” added Luca.

Dunlop Geomax MX53 is available in 6 front sizes and 11 rear sizes.

Triumph launches Rocket 3 roadster line-up on Avon’s Cobra Chrome tyre

Available in two models, the R and GT, the Rocket 3 boasts a world’s largest production motorcycle engine capacity of 2500cc, which delivers the highest torque of any production motorbike and unparalleled acceleration, while offering a beautifully smooth, responsive and incredibly refined ride.

Avon Tyres, the OE supplier to Triumph Motorcycles, contributed to the end result by developing a new Cobra Chrome tyre especially for the Rocket 3 line-up. Imposing tyre sizes of 150/80 ZR17 at the front and 240/50 ZR16 at the rear add to the roadster’s distinctive muscular presence.

Avon’s Cobra Chrome tyre features exquisite details. Consistent with its name, the edge of the tread is reminiscent of snake skin, and a raised logo in the form of a Cobra head further enhances its aesthetics. Meanwhile, the new tread pattern on the front and rear has been developed for exceptional grip and incredible mileage.

“We are proud to be the tyre of choice for such an iconic brand as Triumph Motorcycles. The Rocket 3 roadster is the pinnacle of motorcycles. To see our Avon Cobra Chrome tyre fitted on both models really is a testimony to the tyre’s performance.” Dominic Clifford, Global Avon Motorcycle Manager

Pirelli presents ANGEL™ GT II, the new tyre that rewrites the rules of the Sport Touring segment

The carcass with innovative variable cord end count and high-silica compounds combined with a new tread pattern design – derived from ‘intermediate’ race tyres – set the benchmark for performance and optimise the effect of the electronic rider aids

ANGEL™ GT II is the new Pirelli Sport Touring tyre, the successor of the highly regarded, award winning ANGEL™ GT and the evolution of the Italian brand’s interpretation of the Gran Turismo concept.Pirelli has designed ANGEL™ GT II with the aim of rewriting the rules of the Sport Touring segment thanks to key features including high mileage, sporty handling and grip combined with fantastic wet conditions behaviour and great confidence and safety to the rider. The carcass with innovative variable cord end count over tyre section and high-silica compounds combined with a new tread pattern design – derived from World Superbike ‘intermediate’ race tyres – set the benchmark for performance and optimise the effect of electronic rider aids.

The Gran Turismo designation generally refers to travelling at speed over a long distance, with safety and comfort. Most importantly GT signifies making the ride able to offer emotions and fun, in other words, giving great riding pleasure.
ANGEL™ GT II development has been focused on consolidating the former ANGEL™ GT’s strengths – already a benchmark for mileage and versatility with different bikes and conditions – enhancing wet performance, riding pleasure and confidence in order to define a new reference point for the Sport Touring tyre segment, in-line with Pirelli DNA and the Gran Turismo concept.

The reason why Pirelli has decided to develop a new product in this tyre segment generates from its relevant and growing market volume and from the competitive scenario where products need to keep pace with the evolving need of motorcyclists and motorcycles.

The technical development of ANGEL™ GT II in terms of profiles, structures, compounds and tread pattern targeted the following main objectives:
• To ensure maximum adherence in all road conditions, linear behaviour in lean transition and consistently support line-holding;
• To couple the sportiness of Pirelli DNA to exceptional performance also in full wet conditions;
• To further raise the bar for tyre lifespan in the segment where its predecessor was already a reference; • To maximise the effect of electronic rider aids.

The new ANGEL™ GT II has been developed to meet the needs of three different motorcyclist groups:

Grand tourers
These riders extensively travel on medium-to-long distances both alone or with pillion passenger and luggage. They ride sport tourers, adventure bikes and the new generation of crossover machines. They demand extended mileage, great stability when heavily loaded, enhanced comfort from dampening, and great safety and confidence, even in the wet.

Smart urbans
These riders use their machines all year long to commute and for urban mobility, with occasional short or medium length free-time trips. They ride super-sport, naked/roadster bikes, sport tourers and the new generation of crossovers. They demand control and braking grip in all conditions including wet and need light handling at low speed. Sometimes they don’t disdain engage in a more dynamic and exciting ride.

Free timers
These riders use their bikes mainly for short week-end trips. They ride mainly super-sport, adventure bikes and the new generation of crossovers. They demand sporty handling, plenty of grip but with extended mileage, performance in the wet and versatility to loading conditions.

With ANGEL™ GT II, Pirelli aims to confirm and expand the brand’s recognition in the Sport Touring tyre segment by complementing the consolidated values of the brand – such as sportiness and sporty handling – with those of performance consistency, reliability and versatility.

ANGEL™ GT II is available in 17 and 19 inch front and 17 rear sizes as below:

The Dunlop TT100 GP Radial

Dunlop will reveal their latest tyre for the growing modern retro and heritage markets at the Classic TT Races, which begins on August 17th on the infamous and challenging Isle of Man mountain circuit.

The Dunlop TT100 GP Radial is Dunlop’s new tyre for one of the fastest growing segments in the European motorcycle market. The retro sports roadster market, which comprises machines as diverse as the BMW R NineT, Yamaha XSR and the Kawasaki Z900RS, has captured the imagination of riders looking to combine state of the art performance with a heritage look.

Many riders in this segment will choose a contemporary design such as Dunlop’s RoadSmart III for touring or the latest SportSmart TT for occasional track riding. However, an increasing number of riders are seeking an authentic look to suit their bike’s image.

The Dunlop TT100GP Radial draws inspiration from one of the company’s greatest racing arenas. Dunlop is the most successful tyre in the history of the Isle of Man TT, with more wins than any other tyre manufacturer in the 2019 races. 50 years ago, it was another landmark year for Dunlop. Malcolm Uphill rode his works Triumph Bonneville to victory with the fastest lap of 100.37mph riding on Dunlop K81 tyres. This was the first time a production tyre had been used to break ‘the ton’ on the 37.7 mile (60.6km) mountain circuit and Dunlop rechristened the K81 as the TT100 to commemorate this achievement. The TT100 has remained in production since, underlining Dunlop’s commitment to providing tyres for classic motorcycle owners.

Modern technology in a familiar style
The Dunlop TT100GP Radial incorporates the look of the TT100, blending the classic tread pattern with technology that can harness the sportsbike-level performance of a modern retro bike.

The tread pattern has had a minor revamp to improve rigidity and improve precision in bends, but the big changes are under the tread. A radial carcass structure gives a great feeling of confidence.

The front tyre has a contemporary construction making the bike easier to handle which is important in the cut and thrust of urban riding. Dunlop has focused on ensuring the new tyre provides the feedback needed at urban speeds.

The rear tyre features Dunlop’s JLB (Jointless belt) construction. This eliminates the belt overlaps resulting in smoother handling and a more stable contact patch with the road. This technology is derived from Dunlop’s latest hypersport tyres, which is appropriate as many of the latest retro sports bikes have the same engines and suspension as their modern-styled equivalents and demand tyre performance to match.

The compound brings modern performance to the retro look of the tread pattern. It features silica which increases compliance at lower temperatures by allowing the compound to key into the road surface, boosting grip and rider confidence. This silica, combined with a contemporary Dunlop polymer, also helps to enhance durability.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe, said: “We’ve wrapped some of Dunlop’s latest innovations in one of our most iconic tread patterns. Whether riders own a classic bike that’s been tuned to give a modern level of performance or a new retro-themed sports bike, the Dunlop TT 100 GP Radial gives them an authentic look with contemporary technology.”

The Dunlop TT100 GP range now comprises two front and four rear sizes. This portfolio caters for over 60 different motorcycle models from 16 different manufacturers.

It is approved for road use, too, making it the ideal fitment for road legal, enduro and trail bikes like the Yamaha WR-F 450 and the Suzuki DR-Z 400.

The MICHELIN Tracker’s strength, performance, versatility and affordable price tag are sure to appeal to a high number of off-road enthusiasts, and the technologies it packs stand to win over the most exacting bikers.

Careful attention has notably been paid to its tread pattern and crown which has been reinforced to shrug off the knocks associated with off-road riding.

The design of the MICHELIN Tracker’s innovative tread pattern ensures outstanding traction and braking performance in even the toughest conditions. The tie bars that connect the blocks provide added protection and upgraded resistance to impact, while the new tyre’s two-ply construction combines reduced weight with superior ride comfort and directional precision.

Last but not least, for extra peace of mind for riders who like to stray off the beaten track, MICHELIN Bib Mousse inserts are available in a choice of four sizes (M15, M18, M22 and M199) for the new MICHELIN Tracker.

Dunlop claim new SportSmart Mk3 ‘tears up the rule book’

Dunlop has revealed the SportSmart Mk3, creating a new position in the Dunlop hypersport range, with the new tyre focusing on dynamic road performance, sitting alongside the recently launched SportsSmart TT which is designed for a mix of road and track use. It is the fifth new hypersport tyre from Dunlop in just two years, underlining Dunlop’s commitment to providing a tyre for every type of sportsbike rider.

The tyre features innovative new technologies with Dunlop claiming that it ‘tears up the rule book’ for hypersport tyres due to its ability to perform at a high level in both wet and dry conditions.

All new compound – don’t let the weather stop the ride
The SportSmart Mk3 features an all-new Multi-Tread (MT) compound, with a trio of compounds in the rear tyre developed to give riders extra confidence in more challenging conditions. This contributes towards a 20% gain in wet grip*, but with similar gains in the dry, proving Dunlop’s claim that the tyre ‘tears up the rule book’ in not compromising performance in the wet by improving dry weather grip.

The MT technology comprises a hard wearing central tread compound providing strong traction which also runs underneath the softer shoulder compound to help stiffen the construction. The MT shoulder compound features Dunlop’s all-new wet grip resin, blended with the latest ‘Hi Silica’ and ‘Fine Carbon’ technologies. This exotic mixture is designed to give a fast warm-up time and allow riders to accurately feel the high cornering potential, even in colder weather.

The increased ratio of silica in the compound helps the tyre gain grip and traction on colder days. It has the added benefit of reducing rolling resistance, which improves tyre mileage. The use of fine carbon, which bonds with the polymers in the compound, speeds up the warm-up time. The fine molecules also bond with the road surface more accurately, which increases the contact area under heavy cornering.

The front tyre features the same wet-grip resin with ‘Hi Silica’ and ‘Fine Carbon’ technologies. This gives confidence and stability under heavy braking as well as allowing the rider to better judge the grip levels when turning at speed.

Dramatic new tread pattern
The dramatic grooved pattern complements the compound technology by boosting wet grip, with no compromise on mileage. By maximising water evacuation but limiting the movement riders would feel on a conventional tread pattern, the SportSmart Mk3 provides exceptional handling in all road conditions, rapid warm-up and even wear for longer lasting performance.

Construction technology
The SportSmart Mk3 brings together acclaimed technologies from other members of Dunlop’s hypersport range. The Dynamic Front Formula builds on the innovation seen on the more track-orientated SportSmart TT, lowering steering effort and optimising turn-in grip. Dunlop’s Carcass Tension Control System (CTCS) controls casing stress distribution. This increases straight-line traction and provides improved feedback with the stability required for a demanding hypersport bike on a challenging road ride.

Dunlop’s Jointless Belt technology (JLB) has been well-proven in the brand’s extensive range of hypersport and sport touring tyres, offering extra casing reinforcement and reducing the tyre expansion at speed. This provides the rider with consistent and predictable feel.

These technologies combine with a new construction shape. Compared to Dunlop’s existing road-orientated hypersport tyre, the SportSmart2 Max, the cross-section of the tyre has a profile that increases the footprint when cornering, but also provides a more consistent contact patch as the tyre wears. This means there is little reduction in performance between a brand new and higher mileage tyre.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe Marketing Manager, stated: “I’m proud of what the Dunlop development team has achieved with SportSmart Mk3. We asked them to tear up the rule book by creating a hypersport tyre that performs at a very high level in the wet and dry. They’ve done it, and as a result we now offer a tyre for every type of hypersport rider ranging from everyday road riders to Isle of Man TT winners.”

The SportSmart Mk3 sits in the Dunlop hypersport range alongside SportSmart TT (50/50 road/track use), D212 GP Racer (Track Day focused) and GP Pro D213 (the ultimate race tyre for championships that mandate road-legal tyres). The existing SportSmart2 Max will be repositioned as a mid-level hypersport tyre.

Dunlop adds endurance-winning expertise to the GP Racer D212 range

Dunlop has announced new Endurance specifications of the highly-regarded GP Racer D212 track tyre. These new variants are aimed at track day riders who demand high levels of durability as well as consistent high performance. The existing GP Racer D212 was a race-winning tyre from its debut. Available in slick and road legal versions, the latter has been used to win Supersport races at the highest National level, including in the French Superbike Championship. Dunlop has now brought their FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) winning expertise by adding a new GP Racer D212 ‘E’ Endurance specification to the range.

Dunlop Motorcycle Europe Product Manager, Dmitri Talboom, explained why the time was right to introduce a new Endurance option: “The track tyre market has broadened into distinct segments. Many serious track day riders and racers are choosing professional racing tyres such as the Dunlop KR slick range and our Isle of Man TT winning D213 GP Pro for bikes with a full race set-up. Amateur racers and regular track-day riders have been praising the user-friendly nature of the GP Racer D212 which is much less sensitive to set-up. By adding an endurance option to the existing GP Racer D212 range, we offer a tyre for every type of track rider”

Dunlop is the most successful tyre company in the history of the EWC and we’ve learnt a lot about durable and consistent compounds in those long-distance races. We’ve taken those learnings from the Bol d’Or and Le Mans 24h to offer a long-lasting track day and club racing tyre.”

The upgraded Endurance (E) version is available in both 190/55R17 and 200/55R17 rear sizes and either as a road legal treaded version and as a slick.

The revised Multi-Tread compound configuration of the “E”-version offers greater durability but still features the revolutionary NTEC system, which allows pressure tuning for optimum performance for race track use.

Dunlop introduce RoadSmart III SP front tyre

SP variant brings additional sport performance to the test-winning RoadSmart III range.

Dunlop has widened its RoadSmart III range by adding an additional sporting variant of the award-winning tyre. The RoadSmart III SP front tyre goes on sale this month to complement the existing SP rear option and is suitable for sport-touring fitments on roadster and crossover models.

The standard RoadSmart III can enhance the handling characteristics of even very heavy touring bikes by boosting agility. In the 2018 Motorrad Sport Touring tyre test, RoadSmart III was the overall winner, with the leading German magazine proclaiming ‘In curves, its handling abilities were top-level’.

Dunlop’s philosophy of designing the right tyre for every type of rider meant there was an opportunity to refine the RoadSmart III for crossover and touring roadsters. The Sport Touring segment is widening, with models at the lightweight end overlapping into the hypersport sector and for bigger touring bikes to cross over towards the road adventure market. This broad scope has prompted Dunlop to ensure that their tyre range is tuned to suit a wide range of models.

At the sportier end of the market, the new Dunlop RoadSmart III SP front tyre (120/70ZR17) matches the existing RoadSmart III SP rear range (180/55ZR17 and 190/55ZR17). These SP variants aim to improve high-speed stability on models that are especially sensitive in this area and don’t require the design elements that help the standard RoadSmart III improve agility when fitted to bigger touring bikes.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe Marketing Manager explained: “The basic construction of the SP front is the same as the test winning standard RoadSmart III front, but it has a section shape and mould profile optimised for sportier bikes. This design is called Dynamic Front Formula (DFF) and combines an intricately balanced combination of mould shape, section profile, casing material properties and assembly processes.

“The aim of the RoadSmart III SP front is to provide owners of roadsters and crossover bikes with the same kind of feel and feedback you get from hypersport tyres. The standard RoadSmart III can make a bike feel lighter, which is ideal on bulkier touring bikes. For spirited riding, the SP’s slightly higher level of resistance to steering inputs can give more confidence and feel.”

To help riders choose the right RoadSmart III combination, Dunlop has included guidance for each model in their 2019 fitment guide. On some models Dunlop recommend using either the standard or the SP versions both front and rear. On other models, Dunlop recommend a mix of RoadSmart III standard and SP.

Dunlop has barely issued the new spottouring tire RoadSmart III…
