Stefano Manzi Joins Soomer For at Dynavolt Triumph For 2022

Dynavolt Triumph are pleased to confirm that Moto2™ regular Stefano Manzi will join Hannes Soomer to complete the team line-up in the 2022 World Supersport Championship.

Stefano is an experienced rider. His career started back in 2007 and he went through many victories and categories until he made his leap into the World Championship in 2015 in Moto3™. Two years later he made his debut in Moto2™ with the Sky Racing Team VR46 and since then the intermediate class has been his field.

The 22-year-old from Rimini now moves across to the World Supersport category for a new challenge in 2022 with the UK based official factory Dynavolt Triumph team, great opportunity for both sides to grow together sharing their experience in racing.

Stefano Manzi: “I am really happy to be part of this Team and part of the project to bring Triumph back to the World Championship. Now I am focused on my winter training to be 100% ready for the beginning of the season. I cannot wait to be back on track and on my new bike.”

VR46 Riders Academy Sporting Director, Alessio Salucci “The whole VR46 Riders Academy is beyond pleased with the agreement reached with the Dynavolt Triumph team. It’s a great chance for Stefano to be part of this project supported by such a highly experienced manufacturer as Triumph. World Supersport is a very competitive category and I am sure that he’ll be able to make a great job together with his new team.”

Dynavolt Triumph Team Manager, Simon Buckmaster: “We’re really pleased to sign Stefano Manzi from the VR46 Academy to ride with the Dynavolt Triumph team in our return to World Supersport this year. He is an exciting prospect with good performance level in his seasons in Moto2™. He had a top six finish towards the end of last year so he’s on good form. He did a couple of wild cards in World SSP so understands the Pirelli tyres and of course, understands the Triumph engine well. I won’t say he is going to surprise a few because a lot of people think he is going to be a good front runner and that is what we want, challenging for race wins and the title. We can’t wait to get started testing in March with Stefano and of course with Hannes.”

Dynavolt Triumph will now begin their preparations for the 2022 season which is set to get underway at Aragon, Spain on 8/9/10 April.

Ducati MotoE bike takes to the track for the first time on the Misano circuit

The Ducati MotoE bike took to the track for the first time at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, right where the agreement with Dorna Sports was announced in October.

In fact, starting from the 2023 season, the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer will be the sole supplier of motorcycles for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup, the electric class of the MotoGP™ World Championship.

The electric motorcycle prototype, code-named “V21L”, is the result of the joint work of the Ducati Corse team and the Ducati R&D engineers, led by Roberto Canè, Ducati eMobility Director, and was taken out on track by Michele Pirro, professional rider and Ducati test rider since 2013, who evaluated the technical characteristics and potential of Ducati’s first electric motorcycle.

Roberto Canè, Ducati eMobility Director:  “We are experiencing a truly extraordinary moment. I find it hard to believe it is reality and still not a dream! The first electric Ducati on the track is exceptional not only for its uniqueness but also for the type of undertaking: challenging both for its performance objectives and for its extremely short timescales. Precisely for this reason, the work of the whole team dedicated to the project has been incredible and today’s result repays us for the efforts made in recent months. We are certainly not finished yet; indeed, we know that the road ahead is still very long, but in the meantime, we have laid a first important ‘brick’.”

Michele Pirro, Ducati test rider:  “Testing the MotoE prototype on the circuit was a great thrill, because it marks the beginning of an important chapter in Ducati history. The bike is light and already has a good balance. Furthermore, the throttle connection in the first opening phase and the ergonomics are very similar to those of a MotoGP bike. If it weren’t for the silence and for the fact that in this test, we decided to limit the power output to just 70% of performance, I could easily have imagined that I was riding my bike.”

The most important challenges in the development of an electric racing motorcycle remain related to the size, weight and range of the batteries. Ducati’s goal is to make electric motorcycles that are high-performance and characterized by their lightness available to all FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup participants. The focus of the project are, in addition to better performance, the containment of weight and the consistency of power delivery during the race, obtained thanks to the attention in the development of a cooling system suitable for the objective.

Ducati’s experience in the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup will be a fundamental support for product R&D. The goal is to create, as soon as the technology allows it, a Ducati electric vehicle for road use that is sporty, light, exciting and able to satisfy all enthusiasts.

Pirelli Present the first 10 and 12 inch NHS Range Plus a new Wet Solution

The new sizes of DIABLO Superbike and DIABLO Rain in 10 inch have been selected as the exclusive equipment of the FIM MiniGP World Series.

Pirelli announces numerous innovations in the racing range, enriching it with new products and expanding the choice of sizes and compounds. Pirelli has always been at the forefront of research and technological development in the racing environment thanks to decades of commitment in the FIM Superbike World Championship.

In addition to the new products for motorcycles with seventeen-inch rims, Pirelli presents its first NHS competition range dedicated to small motorcycles with ten and twelve-inch wheels, including MiniGP, pitbike, minimotard and scooters. The new range includes both the DIABLO Superbike slick solutions and the DIABLO Rain grooved solutions to be used in wet conditions.

Thanks to the partnership with FIM, Dorna Sports S.L. and Ohvale, Pirelli is the Sole Supplier of tyres for the FIM MiniGP World Series, a project created to unify national, regional and continental MiniGP competitions around the world, with the aim of creating a launch platform for young riders ready to improve their skills. Starting from the FIM MiniGP World Series Final of the 2021 season, to be held this November in Valencia, the young riders will compete on Ohvale GP-0 160 machines equipped exclusively with DIABLO Superbike tyres in SC1 compound in the sizes 100 / 80-10 front and 120 / 80-10 rear.

For some time now, Pirelli has been involved in worldwide activities that support the growth of young riders, realizing for many fresh talents the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on the international racing scene thanks to the assignment of wildcards for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. Another example of this commitment is the technical sponsorship and tyre supply to the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup, the single-brand championship conceived to give riders around the world from twelve years of age the chance to race in a professional setting with a turnkey package.

Here is the summary of the main Pirelli Racing news for 2022:

DIABLO SUPERBIKE

  • New sizes in soft compound SC1, specifically developed for racing and training activities of MiniGP, pitbikes, minimotards and scooters equipped with ten and twelve inch rims:
  • 100/80 – 10 NHS TL   FRONT   SC1
  • 120/80 – 10 NHS TL   REAR      SC1
  • 100/90 – 12 NHS TL   FRONT   SC1
  • 120/80 – 12 NHS TL   REAR      SC1
  • Updated solution in super soft compound SCX, available in the rear sizes 200/65 R 17 for the Superbike class and 190/60 R 17 for the Supersport class;
  • New size 140/70 R 17 available in SC2 compound, developed specifically to amplify the offer dedicated to the Supersport 300 class;

DIABLO WET

  • New rear size 200/60 R 17, for both Superbike and Supersport classes, that substitutes the previous 190/60 R 17 and that aligns with the DIABLO Rain sizes. This evolution is intended to minimise the changes necessary to the set-up of the bike in the event of a sudden tyre change between slick, intermediate or wet solutions.

DIABLO RAIN

  • New solutions, specifically developed for racing and training activities of MiniGP, pitbikes, minimotards and scooters equipped with ten and twelve inch rims:
  • 100/80 – 10 NHS TL   FRONT   SCR1
  • 120/80 – 10 NHS TL   REAR      SCR1
  • 100/90 – 12 NHS TL   FRONT   SCR1
  • 120/80 – 12 NHS TL   REAR      SCR1
  • Rear size 200/60 R 17, that substitutes the 190/60 R 17 size in the Supersport class;
  • SCR1 range applied to the whole range, improved in versatility to give riders high performance in a wide range of operating conditions.

DIABLO SUPERBIKE

The DIABLO Superbike tyres are the pinnacle of the DIABLO range and are NHS slick tyres (“Not for Highway Service”), in other words intended exclusively for track use and dedicated to professional and amateur riders, as well as track day riders seeking to get the most from their circuit riding. Available in various compounds, they are capable of tackling the different types of asphalt and weather conditions that can be found on circuits all over the world. The DIABLO Superbiketyres are the ultimate in Pirelli’s technological expression applied to the world of street-legal race bikes. Their history and development are closely connected to  those of the FIM World Superbike Championship where they are now used in all classes, from Supersport 300 to Superbike, as is the case in the national championships, both those where Pirelli is the sole supplier and the ones with open tyre manufacturer competition.

DIABLO Superbike 10” and 12”

The most important news regarding the Pirelli product family dedicated to racing applications is the arrival of the DIABLO Superbike sizes in 10 and 12 inches. The new sizes of DIABLO Superbike takes the decades-long experience gained by Pirelli in the racing field to the world of small-wheeled motorcycles. DIABLO Superbike was developed as an extremely versatile product suitable to riders of any level, from amateurs to professionals, that uses their ‘small motorcycle’ for racing activities or training; the performance offered by this product are the benchmark within this category and reflects the commitment that Pirelli dedicates to the development of its racing range.

Thanks to the soft SC1 compoundused across the range, DIABLO Superbike is able to offer versatility in terms of operating conditions, such as temperature and asphalt, and type of application, from training sessions to club and professional racing.

The cross-ply structure of DIABLO Superbike 10 and 12 inch range has been specifically developed by Pirelli engineers to suit the characteristics of the target vehicles that the product is intended for, to facilitate quick change in direction and maintain reference performance in a wide range of operating conditions.

The profile has also been developed to obtain the best performance from the 10 and 12 inch motorcycles in racing conditions. Compared to the grooved DIABLO ROSSO Scooter SC, the front and rear profiles of DIABLO Superbike tyres have a double-radius profile that guarantees easy handling and a feeling of control while cornering, thanks to the greater contact area between the tyre and the asphalt.

DIABLO Superbike 17”
During the 2021 season, Pirelli has perfected and updated the new version of the DIABLO SUPERBIKE in SCX compound, a rear super soft tyre in between the qualifying compound and the renowned SC0 solution. Now available in the 200/65 R 17 tyres for the Superbike class and 190/60 R 17 for the Supersport class, this solution has been extremely appreciated by the riders of the FIM World Superbike Championship that have unanimously selected it for several races during the season.

In 2022 Pirelli also introduce the new rear size 140/70 R 17 in medium compound SC2, which next to the current SC1 solution, represents the new tyre range dedicated to riders of the Supersport 300 class. This compound is the ideal choice in case of particularly low temperatures or an abrasive tarmac, or for riders who are looking for a higher mileage.

Thanks to different rear options now available, from 2022 riders and teams in the Supersport 300 categories will be able to make a choice on the rear tyre compound to be used in the race or during training, in order to better adapt to different operating conditions.

DIABLO WET
DIABLO Wet represents the intermediate solution between slick and DIABLO Rain tyres, intended for use in case of intermediate weather conditions, such as drying asphalt/ a dry line. DIABLO Wet has a tread pattern with a lower number of grooves compared to DIABLO Rain and a compound with a high silica content that allows for chemical grip even on wet asphalt.

The 2022 range includes the arrival of the new rear size 200/60 R 17, intended for the Superbike class as well as the Supersport class, where it replaces the previous size 190/60 R 17. The passage of DIABLO Wet to a larger size represents an excellent advantage for teams and riders that, in the event of uncertain or variable weather conditions before a race, could swap between DIABLO Wet and DIABLO Rain tyres without having to change the bike set up.

DIABLO RAIN

In case of rain conditions, Pirelli has worked to improve the performance of the 200/60 ZR 17 rear tyre, the reference size for the Superbike class and from 2022 also for the Supersport class, replacing the previous 190/60 R 17 size.

DIABLO RAIN has a design with a different orientation between the grooves in the central area, which allow for a more homogeneous wear and greater stability of the tread, and those on the shoulder, which improve water evacuation and, consequently, the grip during full lean and corner exit.

All the sizes of the new DIABLO Rain range are SCR1, a compound with a high silica content that has been constantly improved over the years thanks to the work carried out by Pirelli on the circuits of international and national championships around the world. The development of this compound has been particularly oriented to increase its performance and versatility, so that riders can obtain with a single solution the best performance possible, regardless of the different operating conditions that may be encountered during the racing season.

The DIABLO Rain range also includes the new sizes dedicated to competitions on scooters, pitbikes, minimotards and MiniGPs with ten and twelve inch wheels.

Plenty to fight for as the Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship reaches its climax

Masters Superbike, Sept 25/26th 2021, Mondello Park. Richie Ryan turn 4, winner of Superbike race one.

The Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship heads for the Mondello Park National Track this Saturday and Sunday, October 9th & 10th with ten of the twelve title fights still to be settled. Never in the history of the championship has so much been up for grabs on the final weekend of the season.

The shortened 2021 Masters Superbike Championship campaign comes to a close this weekend following a five event season condensed into just seventeen weeks. The shorter season has produced a more unpredictable outcome than normal, with just two titles secured so far. The Supersport crown has been lifted by Offaly’s Kevin Keyes while Corkman Stephen Tobin has retained his Moto 400 crown.

Despite a season where he was pushed harder than ever before the September Masters saw Kilkenny’s Richie Ryan emerge as the favourite to secure an unprecedented fourth successive Superbike title. Mechanical issues and crashes for all of the front runners have allowed Ryan to overcome his own non-finishes to build a healthy lead heading into the final triple header. Dubliner Thomas O’Grady has emerged as Ryan’s closest challenger and one slip up from Ryan could allow O’Grady the chance to make a claim for the title. In the Superbike Cup a three way battle between Kerry riders Dean O’Grady and Evan O’Grady and Cavan’s Shane Connolly, will more than likely go down to the final race on Sunday afternoon before it is decided.

While Kevin Keyes has secured the top spot in Supersport and Limerick man Andrew Murphy is almost secure in second, the Supersport Cup is yet to be finalised. Both Jamie Collins and Scott McCrory have been battling near the front of the overall grid all season and are now the only two left standing in the battle for Cup honours. With Keyes likely to miss the event, due to an injury sustained at Donnington Park’s BSB round last weekend, the way could be open for one of the Cup racers to join the exclusive list of Cup riders who have won a Supersport race outright.

The most interesting fight over the weekend could be the Supertwins shoot out. With an extra race being added this weekend to make up for the one not run in September, Kevin Baker from County Clare and North Dublin’s Michael Sweeney will have a busy weekend as they fight over the top spot in the faster Twins class. The top two have won all of the races this season and currently are separated by just five points. Darragh Crean will make the trip from Kerry with a healthy Production Twins points lead over season long rival, veteran Dubliner Terry Bradley. Bradley will have to beat Crean in Saturday’s race one to take the championship battle through to Sunday’s final day.

The Principal Insurance Pre-Injection class has two former champions still in with a chance of regaining the crown, but it will be Tipperary’s Ian Prendergast who will start as the strong favourite. Prendergast holds a large lead over Darryl Sharkey with the Cavan man needing his rival to have a particularly poor weekend if he is not to pick up the six points he needs to take the title.

Also up for grabs this weekend are the DM Groundworks and FJS Plant Junior titles with a very real chance that Masters history could be made in Moto1. Aoife Griffin is all set to become the first female Masters Champion and all she has to do is finish race one to claim that accolade. In the faster Junior Supersport class Reece Coyne is aiming to add this trophy to the Junior Cup one that he won in 2019 and will need to simply finish in the top three in race one to do so. Also set to be decided over the weekend is the destination of the Classic Superbike Championship and the Sidecar  title.

Three Championship rounds will be run for each class over the two days of the Masters finale apart from Twins. Following Saturday morning qualifying. racing gets underway in the afternoon beginning with the additional rescheduled Twins race. All classes will race at least once on Saturday with  the final two rounds of the season on Sunday. Tickets for both days can be purchased from the Masters Superbike Championship web site, www.masterssuperbike.ie.

In the last two years Moto2™ graduates have gone on to take podiums and victories in their first seasons in the premier MotoGP class: 2019 Moto2™ World Champion Alex Marquez taking a pair of second places in 2020, and title rival Brad Binder with a victory also in 2020 and more recently in Austria 2021. Jorge Martin took his first Moto2™ victory in 2020, followed a year later with his maiden MotoGP™ win and a further two podiums in 2021. These incredible results go to prove how Moto2™ has become the natural springboard for MotoGP™ that Dorna envisaged.

Redefining the category, records have also fallen across the board. As well as 14 different race winners since 2019 there have been lap records set at 34 events, including records which have been broken and re-broken year-on-year, and the first ever 300+km/h top speed for a Moto2™ machine. The record stands at 301.8km/h at Phillip Island, Australia.

Reflecting these great successes, the wonderful feedback and partnerships we have had with the riders and their teams, and the incredible response from Triumph fans across the world, we have decided in partnership with Dorna, along with the continuing support of Externpro, to extend our relationship and sign a new contract for another three years of racing.

Steve Sargent, Triumph Motorcycles Chief Product Officer
”Moto2 has been the perfect environment to showcase, and prove the reliability and performance advantages of, our triple engines, where we have seen the top 20 qualifying times consistently come within a second of each other. Not only has it raised our profile and credibility on the world stage, for me the success of Moto2 has also been an incredible catalyst, reigniting the passion for racing within Triumph motorcycles. I am delighted to have played a part in this landmark activity for Triumph and excited to see the extension to another 3 seasons. We are committed to delivering further improvements to the performance of the engines, which we are sure will be appreciated by both the riders and the teams.

Carlos Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports Managing Director, said:
“Our first years together have been a wonderful success and I’d like to thank Triumph for their help and hard work over these first three years – especially during the pandemic. The FIM, IRTA and Dorna are happy with the results this project has shown and it’s validated the consistency of the steps between Moto3™, Moto2™ and MotoGP™. Overall, we are pleased with the partnership and we look forward to three more exciting years together.”

Triumph Motorcycles Showcases Racing Heritage

Triumph Motorcycles showcases racing heritage and pays tribute to celebrated rider Craig Jones with memorial lap.

With Triumph Motorcycles firmly back in the paddock for the British Supersport Championship with the Dynavolt Triumph Team, round 5 at Donington circuit was a fitting occasion to demonstrate a series of activities.  A memorial lap took place, attributed to acclaimed rider Craig Jones, along with a unique display of heritage racing motorcycles and the opportunity for Triumph owners to ride their bikes on a lap of the 1.9mile Midlands circuit.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the return of the Valmoto Triumph 600 Daytona to the track. Last publicly ridden by Craig Jones in the 2004 Championship where Jones delivered some incredible performances, including a victorious win on the ‘last corner, last lap, last race’ back in 2004 at Donington Circuit before he sadly passed away in 2008.

2011 BSB Champion and friend of Craig Jones, Tommy Hill rode the #18 bike, kindly loaned from Dick Shepherd and the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience, to pay tribute to Jones and celebrate the famous victory.

Tommy was joined on track by fellow rider Scott Smart who followed closely on another celebrated motorcycle: 2012 Triumph 675 Daytona #1, previously ridden by Glen Richards for Smiths Racing, the British Supersport Champion in 2012.

The significance of the story warmed hearts around the circuit and brought Craig Jones’ family members, racing managers, and commentator Fred Clarke to the circuit to honour the moment.

Custodian of the motorcycle, Dick Shepherd said: “With such significant history it’s been great to be able to carry on the memories back here at Donington. It’s lovely to see everyone come together and share this special moment, from across the circuit.”

If you missed the action, these bikes alongside another 11 from the Triumph Daytona bloodline feature in a current exhibition at the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience. This is free to enter and open Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00am to 4:30pm.

For more information on the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience visit the website here.

A special motorcycle as a tribute to Troy Bayliss

A special motorcycle as a tribute to Troy Bayliss: the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary.

21 has been a magic number for Ducati ever since Troy Bayliss sculpted it with his victories in motorcycling history. Precisely in 2021, twenty years after winning the 2001 Superbike World Championship, Ducati is paying homage to the legendary career of the Australian rider by dedicating to him a special motorcycle, produced in a numbered series, which celebrates the first of the three World SBK titles won by Bayliss: the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary.

The bond between Bayliss and Ducati Corse in the Superbike World Championship is one of the most fascinating stories in the motorsport universe. The results of this beautiful adventure are 52 victories, 94 podiums and three world titles (2001, 2006 and 2008) won with three different bikes: the twin-cylinder 996 R, the 999 R and the 1098 R. Troy Bayliss is the only motorcycle racer in history capable of winning in MotoGP and World Superbike in the same season (2006) and his achievements in the race have indelibly imprinted the Australian’s name in the hearts of all Ducatisti. Now the winning chemistry between Ducati and “Baylisstic” is rekindled with the creation of this celebratory motorcycle, the name of which was chosen directly by the rider, who also actively contributed to the creation of the graphic concept.

Made starting from the base of the Panigale V2, the “Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary” version is characterized by its special livery , whose graphics are inspired by that of the 996 R which in the 2001 season powered Bayliss to the conquest of his first world title, revisiting its colours and cuts. Ducati red is the main colour of the bike, and it joins green and white in a tribute to the Italian spirit of the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer, while the iconic #21, Troy Bayliss’ race number, and the Shell logo, which visually strengthen the link with the racing bike, stand out on the sides and front. Troy’s autograph is reproduced on the fuel tank, while the billet aluminium triple clamp shows the name of the bike and the progressive numbering of this unique model.

To make the motorcycle even more effective in track riding, Ducati has chosen to equip the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary with Öhlins components . The NX30 front fork and TTX36 rear shock absorber guarantee maximum smoothness and are designed to achieve the best performance on the circuit, with a set-up that makes the bike more precise and offers the rider greater feeling and greater support in all riding phases. The steering damper, thanks to the adjustments it is equipped with, allows you to customize its calibration by adapting it to riding style and the characteristics of the track.

Compared to the standard version, the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is also 3 kg lighter, thanks to the adoption of a lithium-ion battery and the choice of the single-seater configuration that explicitly recalls the look of the racing bike (passenger seat and footrests are available in the equipment supplied).

The equipment is completed by the sport grips, the silencer outlet cover in carbon fibre and titanium and the rider seat made by combining two different technical materials with double red stitching. Troy’s number 21 is embroidered in white on the saddle and, together with the green and red bands, makes up the Italian flag. The motorcycle is also equipped with self-cleaning brake and clutch pumps with smoke grey oil tanks.

The Panigale V2 is the super-mid of Ducati sports bikes and represents the entry model to the Panigale family. It is powered by the 955 cc Superquadro twin-cylinder unit (Euro 5 compliant), with a maximum power of 155 hp at 10,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The chassis is based on the monocoque frame, while the elegant and sporty design is inspired by that of the Panigale V4.

The electronic package, dedicated to active safety and vehicle dynamics control, includes the “cornering” function applied to Bosch ABS, the electronic quick shift that also works when downshifting and traction, engine brake and wheelie controls (Ducati Quick Shift, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control). All the controls are integrated into the three Riding Modes (Race, Sport and Street) that can be modified using the 4.3″ colour TFT dashboard with graphics and interface designed to make menu navigation and settings adjustment intuitive, as well as immediate identification of the selected Riding Mode.

The bike was officially presented by Ducati in a special episode of the Ducati World Première (here the link to see it ) made at the Ducati Museum, on the track and at Troy’s home in Australia. Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali, Ducati Corse Team Manager Davide Tardozzi, who was alongside Bayliss throughout his career in Ducati, Director of the Centro Stile Ducati Andrea Ferraresi and Ducati Head of Product Communications Giulio Fabbri all contributed to the presentation of the characteristics of the bike and the storytelling of the incredible relationship between Ducati and Bayliss. Troy himself took part in this video, sharing with Ducatisti his most indelible memories and emotions experienced on the bike.

The World Superbike universe will also pay tribute to Bayliss’s career during Round 5 of the season, scheduled for the weekend at the Assen track. On Friday 23 July at 13.00, the Australian champion will be the protagonist of a virtual press conference at the Paddock Show together with Ducati Corse Sporting Director Paolo Ciabatti, in which the most important stages of the victory of Troy’s first title, won on the Dutch circuit, will be remembered. On Sunday 25 July at 12.05, after the SuperPole Race, the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary will complete a lap of honour on the track, ridden by Aruba.it Racing – Ducati factory rider Michael Ruben Rinaldi, who competes in WorldSBK with the same number as Bayliss.

The twentieth anniversary of Troy Bayliss winning his first title with Ducati is being celebrated in Borgo Panigale with a temporary exhibition in the Ducati Museum entitled “Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion” which exhibits the bikes with which Troy was able to write some memorable chapters in the history of motorcycle racing. The exhibition can be visited until 19 September 2021 (here more information on visits to the Ducati Museum).

The Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary will be available in UK dealers starting from October 2021 at a dealer price of £17,995

Extreme Hyperfocus – The Track-Only KTM RC 8C Is Ready To Race

Rolling out of pit lane and directly onto the starting grid, the KTM RC 8C is a limited production track-only motorcycle built to satisfy the apex-slaying needs of orange-bleeding track warriors. Dedicated to putting in fast lap times with unmatched hyper-focused precision, the KTM RC 8C is undeniably, READY TO RACE!

The KTM RC 8C is a purpose-built, lightweight racing prototype which uses the familiar LC8c engine from the KTM 890 DUKE R in a bespoke, track-ready chassis, bristling with high-end racing componentry. In essence, the KTM RC 8C allows customers the opportunity to own a machine that is as close to a Factory race bike as possible – without the drawbacks of needing a specialist race team to maintain it.

Engineered to be 100% ready for the track, the KTM RC 8C is a completely hand-built machine, powered by a high-torque production engine to allow for easy maintenance.

Under the lightweight, KTM RC16-inspired carbon Kevlar reinforced GRP bodywork lies a 128 Hp, 889 cc LC8c, DOHC, 8 valve parallel twin, bolted into a dedicated 25CrMo4 steel tubular frame, augmented by a selection of WP Pro Components at either end.

Upfront, a hand built 43 mm WP APEX PRO 7543 closed cartridge fork made from high quality, lightweight material is used. Developed with the experience gained from KTM Factory Racing efforts across a number of international championships, the suspension is assembled in the same department which builds and maintains the suspension of the KTM RC16, it guarantees the best performance for race-oriented motorcyclists and professional racers. The fork also boasts zero hydraulic stroke limitation, meaning riders can continually control the damping properties.

A WP APEX PRO 7746 shock with preload adjuster takes charge of matter at the rear, and can be easily adjusted to suit all riders, and almost any situation by means of separate high and low-speed compression and rebound settings.

Being a focused track-only motorcycle, every detail is dedicated to race craft. From the quick-release tank and body panels, to the lightweight Dymag wheels and Pirelli SC1 race slicks, the KTM RC 8C makes its intentions known.

Maximum braking performance is taken care of by Brembo race-spec equipment, with Brembo Stylema front brake calipers grabbing 290 mm fully floating brake disks with aluminum rotors fastened by titanium screws, and for the rear a Brembo two piston caliper with a 230 mm fully floating disk mounted directly on the hub.

The KTM RC 8C is also fitted with a Brembo 19RCS CORSA CORTA radial master cylinder, which features a host of innovations, with many of the technical solutions adopted drawn directly from the master cylinders used in MotoGP™. The most significant being that riders are able to tailor the “bite point” exactly where they want it, with an easily accessible selector on the top of the master cylinder itself.

Ensuring data is collected and collated, the KTM RC 8C makes use of the AIM MXS 1.2 RACE dashboard and data logger with integrated GPS function. All information is displayed via a 5“ TFT display with integrated data recording, which is continually logged and can be analyzed in AIM Race Studio.

In summary:
// Limited to only 100 units worldwide
// Hand built exclusively for track use
// 128 Hp, 140 kg dry weight, near 1:1 power/weight ratio
// Dedicated racing exhaust with Akrapovič titanium muffler
// Dedicated air box and racing air filter
// Bespoke frame made with 25CrMo4 steel tubular
// WP APEX PRO components fork and rear shock
// Race-spec Brembo brake components
// Ultra-light aluminum Dymag wheels

The exclusive KTM RC 8C will be available for pre-order from the 22 July at 16:00 CEST.

Alongside the KTM RC 8C itself, customers also have the opportunity to join the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing test team at a one-off customer event. Limited to only 25 customers, the exclusive event will give you a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride with the likes of Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio, as they give you tips during a full day at Circuito de Jerez. All those opting for the KTM RC 8C race track experience, will additionally receive the KTM RC 8C race track package.

This package includes:
// Extra set of Dymag wheels (Front and Rear)
// Extras set of front and rear brake discs
// Front and rear paddock stands
// Tire warmers
// KTM pit mat

A Production Ducati Panigale V4 S takes first place in an Italian race

A production Panigale V4 S took first place in an Italian race setting also new racetrack lap record during qualifying

Great success for Ducati which, in collaboration with the Italian rider/Youtuber Luca Salvadori, brought a stock Panigale V4 S, equipped only with a Ducati Performance racing exhaust system, Pirelli slick tires and racing brake pads to triumph in the Cremona round of the MotoEstate Trophy, one of the best known amateur trophy in Italy.

During the weekend of 29-30 May Salvadori also conquered pole position, setting the new record of the Cremona circuit (1’31’945) and the best lap in the race, closing a perfect weekend. The success conquered by Salvadori once again confirms the competitiveness of the Panigale V4 project.

Luca raced with the ABS (the Panigale V4 is the only bike in the world to have a “Cornering Only Front Racing” setup of the ABS) and electronic suspension, proving that it is possible to be competitive in this type of competition with a production bike.

The “Open Class” of the Trophy was chosen to compete against very elaborate bikes, in fact Luca’s main opponent, Fabrizio Perotti a really popular and fast Italian rider, raced on a full Superbike Spec Aprilia RSV4, demonstrating the high level of competitiveness of the Ducati Panigale V4 S road bike.

A Temporary Exhibition at the Ducati Museum for Troy Bayliss

A temporary exhibition at the Ducati Museum for 20 years since Troy Bayliss’s first world title.

The Ducati Museum has finally reopened to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. One week after the resumption of the visits for the public, Ducati also inaugurates a temporary exhibition “Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion” dedicated to Troy Bayliss, three-time World Superbike champion with Ducati.

It is precisely to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that first world title in the 2001 Superbike championship, that Ducati has set up a temporary exhibition in the Ducati Museum with new and exclusive content for its fans near and far.

The date of 21 May, chosen for the reopening of the Ducati Museum, is not accidental. As Ducatisti and all motorcycle racing fans will certainly remember, on 21 May 2000 a still virtually unknown Troy Bayliss accomplished a feat that turned him overnight into a motorcycling legend in the hearts and memories of all Ducati and Superbike fans: his amazing quadruple overtaking move at the Monza circuit.

That day Troy was taking part in the race as a replacement rider for Carl Fogarty who had been injured at Philip Island and, after this epic feat, Ducati decided to let him finish the championship on the factory 996R. That year he finished sixth (243 points, 2 wins and 7 podiums), but he earned his place as factory rider in the Ducati Infostrada team. He won his first WSBK title in 2001, stepping onto the podium 15 times.

All those who can visit the Museum will have the opportunity to admire  the bikes with which the Australian champion has written some of the most amazing chapters in the annals of motorcycle racing:

  • 996 Factory 2000 – his Ducati World SBK debut and used at Monza in the famous quadruple overtake.
  • 996 Factory 2001 Testastretta – his first world title with the livery used at Imola in 2001.
  • 998 Factory Testastretta 2002 – protagonist of the breath-taking duel with Edwards at Imola.
  • 999 Factory 2006 “Superman” – Ducati’s 250th victory in SBK, and Troy’s second title.
  • 999 Factory 2007 – used in the photo-finish against James Toseland at Assen.
  • 1098 R Factory 2008 – his last title won at Magny-Cours.

For all those who cannot yet come to the Ducati Museum, an in-depth study dedicated to Troy Bayliss’s career is planned during the “Ducati Museum Online Journey, the online tours of the Ducati Museum that allow you to retrace the history of the company via a PC, tablet or Smart TV.

The temporary exhibition “Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion” will remain at the Ducati Museum until 19 September 2021, with the sole exception of the days between 1-4 July, when the bikes will be exhibited in Modena at the 2021 edition of Motor Valley Fest.

The opening of the temporary show in honour of Troy Bayliss is also a way to wish to the Australian champion a speedy recovery and send him a big virtual hug after the bicycle accident occurred last May 14.

The ‘RC30 Forever’ replacement parts scheme comes to Europe

Honda will be bringing the ‘RC30 Forever’ genuine replacement parts scheme to Europe following its successful introduction in Japan last year.

Honda started the ‘RC30 Forever’ programme after meetings with well-established RC30 owners’ clubs in Japan and Europe, during which the owners expressed their strong desire to keep these iconic bikes on the road and in the best condition by using genuine Honda spare parts. The key focus of the programme is keeping these owners riding safely and with confidence.

Under the scheme, Honda produces approximately 150 genuine replacement parts for the RC30 that cover the engine, chassis, bodywork and electronics. These have been chosen based on owners’ requests and the experience of experts within Honda’s R&D and manufacturing facilities.

Parts will be available to order through dealerships across Europe from May* 2021.

Background to the ‘RC30 Forever’ scheme
At the beginning of the ‘RC30 Forever’ project, an investigation through the RC30 archives undertaken in 2017 revealed that none of the original wooden models or moulds for the RC30 had been retained. It was clear that the original drawings would be needed to move the project forward.  Like all motorcycles produced at the time, the manufacture of the RC30 was based on 2D hand-drawn wireframe blueprints, from which models and moulds were created. Compared with modern methods of 3D computer modelling and digital drawings, these blueprints contain far fewer specific details, which complicated the reproduction of the new parts.

The blueprints available were digitised, enlarged to a 1:1 scale and compared with existing parts borrowed from the remaining RC30s within the Honda family and owners’ clubs to ensure their accuracy. Despite this, there were still clear and obvious gaps in the detailed information needed to produce the quality of parts required for the scheme. To ensure the parts met these very high standards, it was vital to involve the original team members, many of whom were in their 60s, to share their knowhow, passion and experience when the project team re-created the new wooden models and moulds from scratch.

It is this combination of tangible elements like new digitised drawings and available parts, with longstanding unquantifiable factors like the experience of returning members of the Honda family, that ultimately led to the successful creation of the scheme in Japan.

The legendary RC30 was first revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1987, making its way to Europe in 1988. Limited to approximately 5,000 units worldwide, it was created to comply with the homologation rules required to compete in the newly formed World Superbike Championship.

Hand-built in the Hamamatsu factory, the RC30 was powered by a liquid-cooled 748cc 90° V4 and featured cutting edge race technology of the time – an approach unheard of hitherto. Honda’s development engineers made maximum use of exotic materials like carbon fibre, Kevlar and magnesium throughout the bike. The engine featured titanium connecting rods and a slipper clutch, that worked together with the tall race machine-style gearing. Wheels and brakes featured quick release mountings and the suspension was fully adjustable front and back. The bike prominently featured an unmistakable single-sided Pro-arm swingarm designed to help with rapid rear wheel changes during races.

The legacy of the RC30 was cemented when it won the World Superbike Championship in both 1988 and 1989 with Fred Merkel. It also notched up victories in multiple national and international races, including wins on the Isle of Man in the hands of celebrated riders like Joey Dunlop, Carl Fogarty, Steve Hislop and Philip McCallen.
