Ducati starts production of the Superleggera V4

The first Superleggera V4 has come off the Borgo Panigale production line. 

This is the #001 of the 500 units scheduled in a limited and numbered series; the only motorcycle in the world approved for road use with a frame, swingarm and carbon fibre rims, is finally available. A masterpiece of mechanical engineering, technique and “made in Italy” design, which sets a new benchmark in terms of performance, style and attention to detail.

The exclusivity of the materials and technical solutions adopted on the Superleggera V4 are also reflected in the maximum number of motorcycles envisaged: 500 numbered units accompanied by a certificate of authenticity . The progressive numbering of the motorcycles (XXX/500), coinciding with the chassis number, is shown on the steering head, and on the ignition key.
The first of the lucky owners of this fantastic bike has been invited to Borgo Panigale for a delivery ceremony and, in the next few days, he will personally meet Claudio Domenicali, Ducati CEO, to receive his Superleggera V4 001/500.

The uniqueness of the Superleggera V4 project is underlined by the experiences that Ducati together with Ducati Corse have exclusively reserved for the owners of the motorcycle: the “Superbike Experience” – the possibility for all fans who purchase a Superleggera V4 to be able to try out the Panigale V4 R that takes part in the SBK World Championship on track at Mugello. Even more incredible and exclusive is the opportunity – limited to 30 owners of the Superleggera V4 – to purchase access to the “MotoGP Experience “, thus realizing the dream of every sports motorcycle enthusiast. For the first time it will be possible to ride the Desmosedici GP on the circuit, followed directly by Ducati Corse technicians. Both “Experiences” have been confirmed for 2021.

The attention that completes the purchase experience of the Superleggera V4, also includes the possibility of personalizing the Superleggera V4 leathers with air bags from the “SuMisura Ducati” line, as well as completing the look with a carbon helmet, both dedicated to this motorbike, whose colours and graphics they replicate.

Each motorcycle is equipped with a Racing kit: complete exhaust for Akrapovič racing track use in titanium; open clutch cover in carbon fibre; swingarm cover in carbon fibre with titanium “slider”; headlamp and light replacement kit; license plate holder removal kit; side stand removal kit; mirror replacement aluminium caps from billet; Ducati Data Analyzer + GPS (DDA + GPS); racing fuel cap, brake lever protection, motorcycle cover; front and rear stand and battery charger.

The bike is delivered inside a wooden crate with specially made customization for the transport of this “made in Borgo Panigale” masterpiece.
Finally, all customers receive a sculptural reproduction of the Superleggera V4 in 1:10 scale, modelled in futuristic aerodynamic shapes. A real collector’s item personalized with your motorbike number.

Superleggera V4
The Superleggera V4 is the only motorcycle in the world, approved for road use, with the entire load-bearing structure of the chassis (frame, subframe, swingarm and rims), made of composite material, obtaining, for these components only, a weight saving of 6.7 kg compared to those of the Panigale V4 MY20. To ensure the highest quality and safety standards, these components are 100% controlled by the most sophisticated techniques borrowed from the aerospace industry, such as thermography, ultrasound checks, and tomography.
The specific set-up of the chassis gives an unparalleled deceleration capacity, an extraordinary speed of descent when cornering and a marked tendency of the bike to close the trajectories when exiting corners.

Many components are made of carbon fibre , modelled in advanced aerodynamic shapes. These include the fairing, which reaches efficiency levels higher than those of today’s MotoGP bikes, which are limited in this by the current technical regulations. Thanks to the aerodynamic biplane appendages inspired by Ducati’s 2016 MotoGP bike, the most highly-performing in this field, it is able to guarantee a vertical load of 50 kg of “downforce” at 270 km/h, 20 kg more than that produced by the wings of the Panigale V4 MY20 and V4R. This downforce improves acceleration by counteracting the tendency to wheelie and increases braking stability.

The carbon fairings are embellished with a livery inspired by the Desmosedici GP19, with an alternation of lines and depths between the red colour of the GP19 and the visible carbon that highlight the shapes, the materials and the technical details. The red continues on the coloured sides of the OEM Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres, specifically developed in the construction for the Superleggera V4.

The most powerful and lightest Desmosedici Stradale R engine is hidden under the carbon skin. The 998 cc 90° V4 unit of the Superleggera V4 weighs 2.8 kg less than the 1,103 cc V4 and, thanks to the Akrapovič approved exhaust, produces 224 hp of power in road configuration(EU homologation value), which becomes 234 hp by mounting the titanium Akrapovič exhaust for track use, which is included in the Racing Kit supplied with the bike.
The racing connotation of the engine is emphasized by the use of a dry clutch and by the timing of the Desmodromic system made manually by a specialist who, after checking, confirms the positive result by affixing his signature on the metal plate that embellishes the carbon cover of the rear cylinder bank.

Only on the Superleggera V4, by loading the engine calibration for the racing exhaust, is it possible to enable the display of the “RaceGP” dashboard. Intended for circuit use only, it derives from that of the Desmosedici GP20 dashboard designed on the indications of Andrea Dovizioso.

Thanks to the extensive use of carbon fibre, components made of titanium, magnesium and others from aluminium billet, the Superleggera V4 shows a dry weight of 159 kg on the scale (16 kg less than the Panigale V4), for a power/weight ratio of 1.41 hp/kg. A record value for a homologated sports bike. In track configuration, by mounting the Racing kit supplied with the bike, the power rises to 234 hp and the weight drops to 152.2 kg, with a power/weight ratio of 1.54 hp/kg.

The electronic controls have also been evolved in a purely racing perspective. By default, the operating parameters of these are associated with three reprogrammed Riding Modes with specific names (Race A, Race B and Sport). In addition, for the first time five Riding Modes can be added, customizable with your favourite settings. The rider can monitor lap times through the evolution of the Lap Timer, which now allows you to store the coordinates of the finish line and the split times of five favourite circuits, so as to recall them every time you go out on the track without having to repeat the data logging procedure. By default the system proposes the coordinates of the finish line and intermediates of Laguna Seca, Mugello, Jerez, Sepang and Losail.
Added to this is a latest-generation electronic package that includes EVO 2 strategies for DTC and DQS up/down.

Öhlins lightened suspensions with pressurized fork and lightened billet foot and shock absorber with titanium spring and GP-derived valves are part of the equipment, which improve the absorption of road roughness in the initial compression phase.

The braking system is the best of Brembo production with an MCS radial pump equipped with a remote control for adjusting the distance of the lever and Stylema® R calipers, an exclusive of the Superleggera V4 that allows greater consistency of front brake travel in long runs on the track.

All this translates into a level of performance of absolute importance. Alessandro Valia, official Ducati tester, with Racing Kit and slick tyres, lapped the Mugello circuit in 1m52.45s , less than two seconds away from the time of the Panigale V4R SBK winner with Michele Pirro in CIV 2019.

An example of maximum attention to detail is the aluminium radiator cap machined from billet and the dedicated ignition key with aluminium insert on which the motorcycle number is indicated.

The Superleggera V4 is an extreme machine, devised and designed to achieve maximum performance on the circuit, but at the same time guaranteeing the reliability and ease of use requirements typical of a sports motorcycle homologated for road use. With this motorcycle Ducati pushes the limit even further. The technical competence and knowledge developed and continuously evolved in MotoGP is made available to fans of technique and performance on two wheels.

Ducati presents the new Hypermotard 950 RVE version

Ducati presents the new Hypermotard 950 RVE, which is part of the Borgo Panigale fun-bike family between the entry model Hypermotard 950 and the top of the range Hypermotard 950 SP.

The Hypermotard 950 RVE is characterized by a livery called “Graffiti” that is inspired by street art. The bike builds on the success achieved in 2019, especially on social media, by the Hypermotard 950 Concept presented at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

Wanting to transfer the same manufacturing quality of the concept bike from which it derives to the production motorcycle, it was necessary in the painting phases, to employ highly skilled labour, use very low thickness decals and adopt a particularly long and complex process. The result is comparable to that of an airbrushed bodywork.

Not only graphics, but also a standard equipment upgrade for this new version. The electronic package of the Hypermotard 950 RVE is enhanced by the Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up and Down EVO, which is added to the components already present in the standard version, namely Bosch Cornering ABS with Slide by Brake function (in setting 1), Ducati Traction Control Evo (DTC EVO) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO.

The Hypermotard 950 is the fun-bike par excellence of the Ducati range and is designed to guarantee a high level of fun and control while riding. The aggressive design of the bike, inspired by the motard look, revolves around the twin exhausts under the seat and the smaller superstructures that leave the mechanical components visible, including the trellis rear frame that communicates lightness and essentiality. Ergonomics ensure the rider maximum responsiveness in all conditions. The seat is flat, particularly tapered to ensure wide movement and allows you to touch the ground with ease.

The Hypermotard 950 RVE is powered by the twin-cylinder 937 cc Testastretta 11° engine, which with its 114 hp at 9,000 rpm and 9.8 kgm of torque, of which over 80% is already available at 3,000 rpm, is the perfect engine to offer maximum fun both in sports riding on the track or on roads full of curves and in everyday riding on urban stretches.

At the top of the Hypermotard 950 range is the Hypermotard 950 SP with racing graphics and Öhlins suspension with increased travel, Marchesini forged rims and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up and Down EVO.

The bike will be available in Ducati dealers starting from July.

Fifth edition of the Ducati Scrambler Days of Joy confirmed

The Days of Joy are back, a full immersion in the Ducati Scrambler world between on and off-road riding, cooking classes, outdoor activities and pure relaxation. The appointments for 2020 are on 4 and 11 July with the Ducati Scrambler Experiences in Tuscany and on 6 September with the Riding School of Vairano.

The Ducati Scrambler Experience in Tuscany, scheduled on the weekends of 4-5 and 11-12 July, is ideal for all those who wish to spend two days of riding on and off road in the middle of nature, tasting good food in a relaxed atmosphere. An adventure on the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled in the Sienese hills, with over 200 km on the first day and more than 150 km on the second. This appointment is coordinated in collaboration with the organizing committee of the Eroica® , a historic cycling race, on whose roads part of the route is mapped out.

On September 6, the Ducati Scrambler Riding School also returns to the Vairano Country House, in the Pavia countryside a stone’s throw from Milan. Fun and teaching come together in the Land of Joy riding courses with the Flat Track School, to learn how to drift on dirt ovals in safety, the Off-Road School riding the Desert Sled and the Scrambler Basic Riding School dedicated to aspiring riders.

Relaxation and fun in the countryside are the other strong points of the Days of Joy, which means an American-style outdoor BBQ, chill area with music, deckchairs and umbrellas, table football, the opportunity to try the entire Ducati Scrambler range and the unmissable Cooking Class between pots and stoves to follow an authentic cooking lesson with a famous Chef.

All activities will be regulated by precise safety protocols, respecting the sanitary regulations necessary to make the events safe from every point of view.

The third edition of the Custom Rumble contest has its winner

The Scrambler 1100 FT customized by Italian Marco Graziani of CC Racing Garage is the winning bike of the third edition of Custom Rumble, the contest organized by Scrambler Ducati dedicated exclusively to custom bikes.

The live streaming award ceremony, presented by Scrambler Ducati Ambassador Dominika Grnova, was attended by 16,000 users. The jury of experts, composed by the actor Nicholas Hoult, the riders Chaz Davies and Andrea Dovizioso, the founder of BikeShed Dutch Van Someren and the Italian customizer of Officine Rossopuro Filippo Barbacane, chose the winning custom motorcycle by voting among the five finalists.

The bike customized by Marco Graziani of CC Racing Garage is part of the Bully category, the one dedicated to the Scrambler Ducati 1100, without any restrictions on the type of bike or style. The Italian customizer started from a Scrambler Ducati 1100 Special of which he customized the color, graphics, exhaust and seat. Instead he decided to keep the headlight, the rear and the tank similar to the original as he considers them as the key elements of a Scrambler Ducati.

The Scrambler 1100 FT had received the highest number of votes even during the qualification phase, when almost five thousand users of the Scrambler Ducati community voted on Scramblerducati.com.

As a prize the winner will receive a Beta workbench including the complete tool kit, a valuable and functional tool to continue to transform production bikes into something unique.

Excitement and fun all round in the Ducati Motorola e-Race

The exclusive and spectacular Ducati Motorola e-Race organized on the occasion of the Motor Valley Fest Digital ended with victory for the pro gamer Andrea “AndrewZh” Saveri.

The official Ducati Corse rider, as well as World Champion of the 2019 MotoGP eSport, therefore the favourite at the start, dominated both races conquering the maximum points (20). In second place with 9 points on a par with the third classified was Pramac Racing eSport rider Davide Gallina, “Davidegallina23”, who still placed second thanks to the best performance obtained in qualifying. Finally, with fourth place in the first race and second place at Misano, Michele Pirro ended up on the third step of the podium.

The first of the two scheduled events was held on the Mugello circuit, one of the most spectacular in the whole championship, over a distance of 6 laps in cloudy weather.

An adrenaline-fueled start between the three men on the front row, AndrewZh, Gallina and Bagnaia, saw the latter get the best and take the lead before falling victim to several crashes, the first of which entering the Scarperia curve. This prevented him from fighting for the podium, thus allowing a cautious Danilo Petrucci to conquer third position. It was a tougher race for Michele Pirro, who was also involved in an unexpected off-track excursion, and Andrea Pirillo who finished last.

The second race was at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, one of the main Motor Valley racetracks, where 7 laps were run in sunny weather.

It was an impeccable performance by the champion Andrea Saveri, despite an initial crash, who came first with a gap of almost 30 seconds over the rest of the group. It was a boisterous session for the other players, with several crashes that repeatedly shuffled the cards on the table. The best came right at the very end with Petrucci on the final lap passing and putting in difficulty the pro gamer “Davidegallina23”, who until then had defended second position without any problems. The rider from Terni crashed at turn 4, losing the rear and giving way to Michele Pirro, who in turn had taken advantage of a crash by Gallina to gain a position. Bagnaia and Pirillo had an uphill struggle right from the start and were never involved in the fight for the leading positions.

The virtual competition, organized in collaboration with Pro2Be Esports, was a truly spectacular event complete with a podium ceremony. After a few words from Ducati CEO, Claudio Domenicali, the top three classified riders were rewarded with brand-new high-tech smartphones by Roberto Gomez, Brand and Marketing Director of Motorola, brand of the Lenovo Group, an important partner of Ducati Corse in the MotoGP world championship.

Just as in a real GP, there were also the post-race interviews with the protagonists.

I have to admit that I prefer real races in any case.”

At the end of the races the two pro gamers, Andrea Saveri and Davide Gallina, stayed behind for a Q&A session with all the fans.

Ducati and MT Distribution together for urban mobility

Ducati and MT Distribution, licensee and commercial partner, present a new line of folding e-bikes and electric scooters for urban mobility.

Urban travel is a particularly topical issue and sustainable transport is a growing trend. Ducati is responding to these market needs by presenting seven new products, created in partnership with MT Distribution, an Italian company already present in the sector for over 40 years. The new range will consist of four electric scooters and three folding e-bikes under the Ducati, Ducati Corse and Ducati Scrambler brand. Designed for all those who want to move around the city with style and originality, the entire line will be available for purchase during 2020.

During the development of the products, special attention was paid to the design, curated by the Ducati Design Centre, which also collaborated with Italdesign for the folding e-bikes. The result is an innovative collection with an attractive design.

The scooters that come from the partnership between Ducati and MT Distribution have motors from 250W to 500W while the e-bikes are equipped with 250W motors (the maximum value stipulated by law for this type of vehicle). The first two electric scooters to be presented on the market are called Cross-E and Pro II, which will launch respectively on June 20 and July 6, 2020.

The Ducati Scrambler branded Cross-E scooter mounts so-called “fat” anti-puncture tubeless tyres (size 110/50-6.5”), which are also suitable for stretches of dirt or very uneven roads. The brushless motor provides a continuous power output of 500W and guarantees excellent pick-up both at the start and on uphill sections, without undergoing any slowdown in pace. The 375 Wh battery guarantees an autonomy of up to 30-35 km, maintaining an average speed of 15 km/h. The sturdiness, also visual, of the frame gives maximum stability and riding comfort. The double front headlight allows the use of the vehicle at night with excellent visibility and the management of all the functions, including the 3 riding modes, takes place through the large 3.5” LCD display.

The Pro II, branded by Ducati, instead mounts a 350W continuous brushless motor and a 280 Wh battery, which allows you to cover 25-30 km in full comfort, thanks also to the rear suspension and the 10” puncture-proof tubeless tyres. The safety and ease of use of these vehicles are a fundamental prerogative of the Ducati product line, so the scooter has a double brake (electric front and rear disc) and a large 3.5” LCD display from which to monitor and manage all the settings.

The folding e-bikes, which will be launched on the market in the coming weeks, will have an innovative design and will be equipped with rear lights integrated in the seat post, a battery that is completely hidden in the frame and activation of the lights with twilight sensors. Ducati launches a fundraiser to support the Policlinico di S.Orsola in Bologna

Ducati launches #raceagainstCovid, a fundraiser organized by the Borgo Panigale company in favour of the Policlinico di S.Orsola of Bologna, an excellence of the territory as well as one of the largest hospitals in Italy. In this way, Ducati wishes to contribute to the fight against Covid-19, and it does so with the approach that most distinguishes the company – that of great challenges, forming a team, sharing a goal and looking to the future.

For this reason, Ducati has rallied together its entire family – employees of the Bologna headquarters and its subsidiaries throughout the world, DOC, dealers, suppliers, partners, riders and enthusiasts – to offer concrete support to those who work every day in the front line to protect the health of citizens.

Lungs, heart, circulatory system, kidneys, brain are the preferred targets of the virus. Impairments of lung, cardiac and renal function occur, the risk of thrombosis remains and there may also be neurological residues. To monitor these patients, treat them and follow their rehabilitation, dedicated multidisciplinary areas have been set up with cardiologists, neurologists, nephrologists, pneumologists, physiatrists and infectious disease specialists.
For these patients, even complex rehabilitation programs are proposed that require dedicated personnel and specific equipment such as, for example, telemedicine tools for remote patient control, robots for patient rehabilitation at home, ultrasound, echocardiographs, electro-stimulators of respiratory muscles and instruments that measure their strength and train them, traditional active and passive exercise bicycles (for patients with respiratory problems forced in bed)”

The members of the Ducati Board started off the fundraising collection, followed by many other employees. The amount collected was then doubled by the company, reaching the amount of € 100,000, the starting point of #raceagainstCovid.

Ducati starts its engines again: new motorcycles soon to arrive in dealers

Ducati is set to gradually return to normal, with the steady resumption of production in its Borgo Panigale factory, scheduled to begin on Monday April 27.

In compliance with the regulatory protocol for measures to combat and contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus in the workplace, Ducati temporarily suspended production in its Bologna plant on Friday 13 March to reorganize production schedules. Then came the decree that suspended all non-essential activities and therefore, despite the organization being ready, production did not restart. The gradual improvement in health conditions has allowed the government today to enable companies deemed strategic for the national economy, whose activity is mainly aimed at exports, and for which a prolongation of the suspension would risk losing our country additional market shares, to resume production.

This is a first phase of return, which at the moment will only involve a part of the workers destined for the production lines. Workshop staff will begin first, then engine assembly workers and, from Tuesday 28 April, motorcycle assembly workers. As for employees, the use of smart working will remain mandatory, only those who are not in a position to carry out their work from home will be allowed to access the factory. All resources employed in the commercial, marketing, IT, personnel management, finance, purchasing and logistics areas will therefore be working remotely. The production has been reorganized, going from an eight-hour shift to two seven-hour shifts to allow the minimum number of people to be inside the plant at the same time and thus minimize possible contact. The canteen will be active but with one seat for every four chairs.

The technicians engaged in Research and Development activities who cannot do their work from home were already at work as allowed by the specific ATECO code: therefore the engineers of the engine test rooms, those who carry out motorcycle tests and those who carry out laboratory testing are all present at Borgo Panigale. All designers, project managers, and those in the calculation department will work remotely. This will ensure the deliveries of Ducati motorcycles and the development of new products.

All the rules of conduct in force in Ducati comply with the updated shared protocol of April 24, and for some points they are even more restrictive. For example, inside the company there is an absolute requirement to use masks, regardless of distancing. The entire Ducati protocol is the result of the work of a joint commission between the company and the RSU (unified worker representation body) that was formed on February 23, just two days after the discovery of the first infected person in Italy. Many of the measures inserted are the result of a careful analysis of the protocols used in the Chinese plants of the VW Group, in particular the FAW-VW of Chanchung, where production was suspended only for one week but where strict protection, distancing and sanitizing measures are still in force.

“We are ready to go, we have worked hard over the past few weeks to minimize any risk,” said Claudio Domenicali, Ducati CEO.  “Despite this we will have to be extremely cautious and rigorous. The virus is still in circulation and we must therefore be careful to combat any possible form of transmission. This is the reason why all the people present in the factory will wear masks, we must protect the population from the presence of asymptomatic positives who, although in a very small percentage, are present today and will not be identified by the mandatory temperature test. Serological tests can help but they represent only a snapshot; they should be repeated every day before entry, and this is obviously extremely difficult. This is why masks and distancing are so important. We will obviously adapt the protocols to the evolution of the health situation and to the indications given by the State and the Emilia-Romagna Region. We have been in constant touch with President Bonaccini, whom I thank for the support, with councillor Colla and with commissioner Venturi to prepare us better for this eventuality. The two-wheel market is highly seasonal, and the stop to production in March and April has already had negative effects on sales. The Chinese market is already booming, sales in Korea and Japan are doing well. In Germany, dealers have been open for a week and we already have a major shortage of product. I really believe that this restart can allow us to reduce at least in part the negative effects of the lockdown that we were forced to respect, unfortunately at the worst time. We have a splendid order book: the brand-new Streetfighter V4 just launched has obtained unanimous approval from the specialized press and is the undisputed queen of the category. Unfortunately, production was halted just one month after the start. Then there are also many orders for the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour and for the Panigale V2. We also have the empty warehouses of the Multistrada 950 and Ducati Scrambler 1100 PRO. I am convinced that in this ‘phase two’, the bike will prove to be an extraordinary means of combining fun, passion and the possibility of having a vehicle with which to spend the weekend but also to move around quickly and safely in the city, without any problems of parking or social distancing. I want to thank all Ducati employees who have patiently and collaboratively managed this very anomalous phase and are supporting us in the management of the restart.”

Despite the reopening of the production lines, Ducati confirms that visits to the Museum, Factory and Fisica in Moto continue to be suspended until further notice, in addition to entry into the factory being prohibited for suppliers, dealers, external contracted companies, and external staff in general, unless proven and unavoidably required for the continuity of production activities, product development and general services.

“Ducati Cares”: let’s rev up our emotions again

Ducati looks ahead by launching the “Ducati Cares” program, which allows Ducati Dealers to welcome their Customers and Fans again. The program is mainly focused on Safety, but will also answer to the desire to resume everyday life and being able to experience the emotions and freedom that riding a motorcycle offers.

The “Ducati Cares” program has been created for the worldwide Ducati Dealer network, providing guidelines to be adopted so that the Ducatisti can feel at ease when returning to their local Dealership.

The core of the program consists of a series of actions and precautions that every Ducati Dealer will implement in order to ensure the safety of visitors to the Dealerships. Several measures such as indications on safe distances, disinfectants, masks and other precautions will be implemented and communicated to all Ducatisti both at the Dealership itself and via online channels.

Ducati has exploited the experience gained recently by the company’s internal Task Force, which was set up after the first signs of what would soon become a global pandemic. Through the Task Force Ducati aims at guaranteeing the safety of its employees at the Borgo Panigale Headquarters a well as its subsidiaries around the world. In the past weeks all internal processes were redefined where necessary, such as designated time slots at the Company restaurant, a revised layout of the working environments and at the production lines, defining sanitization procedures, enable smartworking and other precautions to protect all employees. The “Ducati Cares” Program is based on the experience gathered by the Task Force. It will ensure safety and peace of mind for both Customers as well as Dealership employees, representing the Company all over the world.

The ‘Join Ducati’ contest has come to an end. To participate to the special initiative, organized by Ducati to reward the loyalty of its customers, the only necessary requirement was to own at least one Ducati motorcycle.

The 155,000 members of the ‘My Ducati’ program, the reserved area in which customers can manage their garage by accessing all the information on their bikes, update their profile and personal preferences to take part in initiatives of their interest and receive exclusive content, have responded with massive enthusiasm. Participants in the competition uploaded the registration document of each Ducati motorcycle currently owned in the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer’s website area ​dedicated to ‘Join Ducati’.

The Panigale V4 becomes Superleggera: the dream bike is now a reality, and it’s a Ducati

With the Superleggera V4, Ducati fulfils the dream of pushing back the limits of engineering, attention to detail and motorcycle design, with a project that represents the Bolognese company’s greatest masterpiece in terms of engineering, performance and design.

After an exclusive preview for its most passionate and loyal clients, Ducati now officially unveils its new Superleggera V4, the most powerful and technologically advanced motorcycle ever made by the Borgo Panigale manufacturer, produced in a limited edition of just 500 individually numbered bikes.

The Superleggera V4 is the world’s only street-legal motorcycle with the entire load-bearing structure of the chassis (frame, subframe, swingarm and wheels) made from composite material, achieving a 6.7 kg reduction in weight thanks to these components.
To ensure the highest quality and safety standards, these components are 100% tested using the most sophisticated techniques borrowed from the aerospace industry, such as thermography, ultrasound inspections and tomography.
The chassis dimensions have been modified for optimised track use by increasing the length of the swingarm.
The overall result is unparalleled deceleration power, faster leaning down into corners and sharper lines riding out of bends.

The level of performance achieved is extremely high: Alessandro Valia, an official Ducati tester, took the bike, fitted with the racing kit and slick tires, around the Mugello circuit in 1:52:45, less than two seconds from the lap time of the Panigale V4 R SBK, winner of the 2019 Italian Motorspeed Championship (CIV) with Michele Pirro.

Many components are made of carbon fibre, moulded into advanced aerodynamic shapes. These include the fairing, which ensures a level of aerodynamic efficiency that matches and exceeds that of current MotoGP bikes. Thanks to the ‘biplane’ aerofoils inspired by the 2016 Ducati MotoGP, with the highest performance in this field, it can guarantee a downforce of 50 kg at 270 kph, 20 kg more than that created by the aerofoils on the Panigale V4 MY20 and V4 R. This downforce improves acceleration, by countering the tendency to wheel-up, and increases braking stability.

The carbon fibre fairings also sport an eye-catching Desmosedici GP19-inspired livery that juxtaposes the red of the GP19 with a naked carbon that emphasises shapes, materials and technical details.
Beneath the carbon skin lies the Desmosedici Stradale R engine, lighter and more powerful than ever. The 998 cm3 90° V4 that powers the Superleggera V4 weighs, in fact, 2.8 kg less than the 1,103 cm3 V4. Thanks to a type-approved Akrapovič exhaust, it delivers no less than 224 CV in road-legal configuration (EU homologation figures). That figure rises to 234 CV when fitted with the titanium Akrapovič exhaust for track use, which is included in the Racing Kit supplied with the bike.
The racing nature of the engine is enhanced by the use of the dry clutch and the individual manual adjustment of the Desmodromic timing system.

Only on the Superleggera V4, a special engine calibration for the racing exhaust gives riders access to a “RaceGP” display. Intended exclusively for track use, and designed with valuable input from Andrea Dovizioso, it is a direct offshoot of the instrument panel on the Desmosedici GP20.

Thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre, titanium and magnesium components and others machined from solid aluminium, the Superleggera V4 has a dry weight of just 159 kg (16 kg less than the Panigale V4), resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 1.41 hp/kg: a record-breaking figure for a road-legal sports bike. Mounting the supplied Racing kit and switching the bike to its track configuration boosts power to 234 hp, dropping the weight to 152.2 kg and raising the power-to-weight ratio to 1.54 hp/kg.

The electronic controls have also been developed to enhance the racing nature of this motorcycle. Their operational parameters are associated by default with three reprogrammed Riding Modes(named Race A, Race B and Sport ). There are also – for the very first time – five additional Riding Modes that can be personalised with the rider’s preferred settings. Riders can monitor lap times via the upgraded Lap Timer, which can record finish line and split times coordinates for five favourite circuits. These can be recalled at the start of each track day without having to repeat the set-up procedure. The default system settings feature the finish line/split time details of: Laguna Seca, Mugello, Jerez, Sepang and Losail.
This is topped by a latest-generation electronics package including EVO 2 strategies for the DTC and DQS up/down.

Other standard items include a lighter Öhlins suspension system, with a pressurised fork and lighter machined aluminium fork bottoms, a titanium shock absorber spring and GP-derived valves that improve the damping of road bumps during the initial compression stage.

The braking system is the best in the Brembo production range, with an MCS calliper featuring a remotely adjusted lever gap and Stylema® R callipers, exclusive to the Superleggera V4, to provide greater front-brake stroke consistency in long track runs.

Meticulous attention to detail is also obvious in the radiator cap machined from solid aluminium and the dedicated ignition key with an aluminium insert showing the bike number.

The exclusiveness of the materials and technical solutions is reflected in the limited number of bikes: just 500, all individually numbered and provided with a certificate of authenticity. The bike ID number (XXX/500), which matches the VIN, is displayed on the frame, fork yoke and ignition key.

The start of deliveries is planned for June 2020 in Europe and, given the extreme complexity of the production of so many components, the rate is limited to only 5 bikes/day. However, all the bikes will be produced within 2020.

The new Panigale V4 MY 2020 available at Ducati dealers

Since 2018, the date of its arrival on the market, the Panigale V4 has established new benchmarks in the super sports bike segment where, for the second consecutive year, it is the best-selling motorcycle in the world.

The production of the Panigale V4 MY2020 is in full swing. Around 450 motorcycles have been delivered to European and US dealers, and in the coming weeks the new super sports bike will also reach the other markets in the world in which Ducati is present.

To confirm the success already achieved by this jewel of style and technology, feedback and data from customers and the specialized press were collected and analysed in Borgo Panigale. This allowed Ducati to make a Panigale V4 that is easier, less fatiguing and more intuitive to ride, resulting in an even faster bike on the stopwatch, with an improvement that is all the more evident the lesser the rider’s experience. In short, it is an even more powerful and enjoyable bike for an amateur who, on the track, can bring his performance closer to that of a professional rider.

The Panigale V4 is now equipped with content taken from the V4 R. For example, the aerodynamic package through-air (aerofoils, plexiglas screen, nose fairing and larger lateral fairings, more efficient lateral vents for the radiator), which provides enhanced airflow protection and improves overall vehicle stability, enhancing confidence.

The update is completed by the Front Frame chassis with modified stiffness, to give better front-end ‘feel’ at extreme lean angles. What’s more, the bike includes DTC and DQS up/down EVO 2 strategies. Thanks to a new ‘predictive’ control strategy, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2 significantly improves out-of-the-corner power control; Ducati Quick Shift up/down (DQS) EVO 2, instead, shortens up-shift times, allowing sportier high-rev gear shifts (over 10,000 rpm) and boosting shift stability during aggressive acceleration and cornering. The bike also features specially-developed Ride by Wire system mappings with several torque delivery control logics.

The Panigale V4 is powered by the 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale (banked 42° back from the horizontal), a MotoGP-derived 90° V4 with Desmodromic timing, a one-of-a-kind engine featuring a counter-rotating crankshaft and Twin Pulse firing order. The engine can deliver 214 hp at 13,000 rpm and a torque of 12.6 kgm at 10,000 rpm, making for awesome road riding.

In 2019 a quarter of a century will have elapsed since the Ducati 916 arrived on the global stage, forever changing the Superbike world. Born from Massimo Tamburini’s sketches, this bike has revolutionised the world of motorcycle design and has made fans fall in love all over the planet. Incredibly innovative in its style, elegance, lightweight and compactness, by many it’s believed to be the sexiest and most iconic bike ever built.
The Ducati 916 wasn’t just a beautiful bike and an enormous sales success. It also won World Superbike championships: the 916 SBK was a force to be reckoned with even as it made its debut in 1994, and the following years saw it win 120 races, 8 constructors’ titles and 6 riders’ titles, four of them with Carl Fogarty. The Englishman has won 55 races with Ducati, of which 43 riding a Ducati 916 SBK and 996 SBK. “King Carl” and the 916 remain the most successful “couple” in Ducati SBK history.
Ducati has decided to celebrate this anniversary by building a special 916-dedicated version of the Panigale V4. Hence the genesis of the Panigale V4 25° Anniversario 916: a unique limited-edition bike of only 500 pieces, designed to let all true Ducatisti re-live the spirit of the 916.
The “25° Anniversario 916” is built on the mechanics of the Panigale V4 S. This has been upgraded with racing content from the Panigale V4 R such as the Front Frame, designed to Ducati Corse specifications. The look of the bike combines a special livery with forged magnesium wheels, a titanium type-approved Akrapovič exhaust and a long list of Ducati Performance components.

For its world-first preview, Ducati chose round nine of the Superbike World Championship, taking place this weekend at Laguna Seca (California, USA). Here, Francesco Milicia (VP Global Sales & After Sales Director Ducati Motor Holding), Jason Chinnock (CEO Ducati North America) and Carl Fogarty unveiled the Panigale V4 25° Anniversario 916.
The presentation of the bike was also an occasion of remembrance, honouring Californian Carlin Dunne, the Spider Grips Ducati team rider who recently died at Pikes Peak. Jason Chinnock announced Ducati’s decision to remove the number 5 from selling, the same number that Dunne used to race with. The bike will be auctioned, with proceeds going to a fund-raising effort aimed at providing Carlin’s mother with support.

Ducati strengthens global sales in 2018 and takes the lead in the superbike segment

Ducati Motor Holding closed 2018 with no less than 53,004 motorcycles delivered to customers worldwide. That means the 50,000-bike threshold, first reached by Ducati in 2015, has now been achieved four years running.
 
A significant contribution to this result came from the success of the Panigale family, which accounted for the sale of 9,700 bikes (70% increase on 2017), making Ducati, for the very first time, the leader of the superbike segment with a market share of over 26%. In 2018 one superbike out of every four sold worldwide was a Ducati Panigale.
The undisputed flagship of the Panigale family is the V4, the first production Ducati motorcycle which mounts a four-cylinder engine. In just twelve months it has set a new standard for style, technology and performance, with over 6,100 motorcycles delivered across the globe.
 
Equally successful was the Multistrada family, that in 2018 scored 11,829 motorcycles sold. The family saw the addition of the new Multistrada 1260, thanks to which sales soared by 25% (compared to 2017), with no less than 6,569 bikes sold.
 
Compared to data sales in 2017 (55,871 bikes), Ducati experienced a slight drop of 5% against the backdrop of an over 500 cc motorcycle market that shrank by some 3%. Yet thanks to the Panigale and Multistrada families, last year saw the Bologna-based bike manufacturer reinforce its position on the high-end market.
 
“While 2018 was challenging for the big motorcycles market, with slowdowns in important countries like the US, Ducati had, by the end of the year, delivered over 53,000 bikes to customers worldwide, consolidating the growth achieved in recent years”, stated Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding. “In 2018 we achieved stability and the year was positive both in terms of business and racing. We won numerous MotoGP races and developed an exceptional bike. In short, the solidity of the company remains undisputed, as does our penchant for driving ahead with innovation and product development so we can, over the coming years, continue offering customers new icons of style and technology.”

“To rise to new market challenges”, adds Francesco Milicia, Global Sales Director, “we’re working to make our sales network more efficient than ever. For 2019 we’ve also overhauled the Scrambler 800 range – which, among other things, has received a major active safety boost in the form of cornering ABS – and launched new products such as the Diavel 1260 and Hypermotard 950. The Multistrada family saw the arrival of the 1260 Enduro and 950 S, giving customers a wider choice than ever. Lastly, we’ve introduced the V4 R, the most powerful, highest-tech superbike ever built by Ducati to provide a foundation for renewed competitiveness in the WorldSBK championship. Needless to say, its already proved to be a big hit with Ducatisti. In total, we’re talking about nine new models that allow us to look to the future with confidence.”
 
In Italy growth proved to be solid, (+4.5%) reaching 9,200 bikes and making the country go back to being Ducati’s largest market.
 
Spain also performed strongly with 2,444 motorcycles sold (+8%), with further growth observed in Japan with 1,941 bikes (+2%) and Switzerland with 1,276 bikes (+2.2%).
 
Bike deliveries in the USA – historically Ducati’s number one market – totalled 7,843, the drop in sales reflecting a 9% downturn across the US sector of motorcycles over 500 cc.
 
On Asian markets Ducati continues to ride the upward trend, especially in China (+29%) where a new direct branch has been established and the sales network has expanded from 19 to 23 dealerships.

Ducati presents car to bike communication technology at CES in Las Vegas

Ducati continues its safety-focused research by taking part – together with Audi and Ford – in the first U.S. demonstration of a communication system that interlinks vehicles, street infrastructure and pedestrians.

This test follows the one completed in Germany last July. The latter saw the ConVeX (Connected Vehicle to Everything) project – a key part of Ducati’s “Safety Road Map 2025” strategy which aims to develop new safety systems and technologies – showcased in Europe for the very first time. The initial stages of this strategy will see ABS Cornering extended to the entire Ducati range and the market launch, in 2020, of a bike with front and rear radar.

Ducati, Audi AG, Ford Motor Company and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, announced the companies’ continued joint efforts to help accelerate commercial deployment for C-V2X direct communication technology for roadside safety, traffic efficiency and automated driving. As a part of the Consumer Electronic Show 2019, a Ducati Multistrada 1260 as well as Audi and Ford vehicles, demonstrate driving situations utilizing C-V2X direct communications. All vehicles were equipped with C-V2X technology utilizing the Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset to demonstrate a cooperative intersection use case, exhibiting how C-V2X can be used between vehicles to negotiate the right of way in entering a four-way, non-signalized intersection where intention sharing and non-line-of-sight conditions make the use of a wireless sensor such as C-V2X ideal.

The companies also exhibited additional Vehicle-to-Vehicle, Vehicle-to-Pedestrian and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure safety scenarios, demonstrating the maturity and potential of C-V2X technology. The V2V use case featured the Intersection Movement Assist scenario, which is a key countermeasure to address angle collisions at intersections, while the V2P scenario exhibited how C-V2X can be used to protect vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and bicyclists. The V2I use case featured the Work Zone Warning scenario, which is designed to provide drivers advanced warning of road construction ahead allowing them to maneuver in a safe manner.

The Las Vegas demonstrations follow the successful showings of C-V2X trial validations and interoperability conducted throughout 2018 in Europe, Japan, Australia, China and the United States, as well as the first live C-V2X interoperability demonstration between a motorcycle, vehicles and roadside infrastructure, which was hosted by several leading automotive and technology companies, including Ducati and Qualcomm Technologies.

Ducati, Audi and Ford are amongst several global automakers who have closely evaluated C-V2X technology for its reliability, high-performance capabilities and readiness through rigorous testing. Currently, C-V2X is the only V2X alternative that provides a clear evolution path to 5G, in a backward compatible manner, and is designed to deliver reliable and consistent performance in realistic driving scenarios. While complementing other Advanced Driver Assistance System sensors, such as radar, lidar, and camera systems, C-V2X direct communications supports an ever-expanding set of safety use cases, as well as enhanced situational awareness by detecting and directly exchanging vital information. Additionally, C-V2X is designed with a focus on security, benefitting from established security transport layers and application protocols defined by the automotive standards communities, including ISO, ETSI and IEEE 1609. Because C-V2X can be easily integrated into all wireless modems to offer direct and network communications, its implementation is cost-effective, which is especially important as the automotive industry continues to move towards adding wireless connectivity in all vehicles.

The demonstration by Ducati, Audi, Ford and Qualcomm Technologies will be conducted live in Las Vegas by appointment and will also be livestreamed at Qualcomm Technologies’ automotive booth in the North Hall (booth No. 5609), and in the Central Hall throughout the show. The demonstration will also be shown in the Audi and Ford booths.

Ducati presents exciting new motorcycles for EICMA 2018

The Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer has just presented – from a spectacular stage – the bikes that will soon enthral visitors at EICMA 2018 (Milan-Rho Trade Fair, 8 – 11 November).
 
The Ducati World Première 2019 was the final act of the Global Dealer Conference, an event uniting key Ducati dealers – about a thousand people – representing 734 dealers in 91 countries. Streamed worldwide on the internet, the event was held on the evening of Sunday 4 November at Milan’s Linear Ciak theatre. Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, unveiled the new 2019 range personally, illustrating company goals and celebrating a thrilling 2018 race season.
 
“Ducati has achieved a striking degree of maturity”, stated Claudio Domenicali on opening the Ducati World Premiere 2019. “It is a global flag bearer of some of the best aspects of Made in Italy excellence. Based on core values of Style, Sophistication and Performance, our company now offers a range as broad as it is state-of-the-art. This year sees the first major overhaul of the entire Scrambler range since its inception, plus a complete renewal of the Diavel and Hypermotard, two bikes that are firm favourites with Ducatisti. Today, safety and rider-friendliness have hit new heights, yet the brand’s sporting soul is as evident as it has ever been. The Panigale V4 R, in fact, is the most powerful factory motorcycle ever built by Ducati. We’re also delighted with our on-line presence, an area that has enjoyed excellent growth, thus confirming the extraordinary appeal of the entire Ducati product range.”
 
To get the show under way, the bikes already presented ahead of the Milan fair were illustrated: the new Ducati Scrambler range, with 4 new motorcycles spanning from the Icon version to the more distinctive Cafè Racer, Full Throttle and Desert Sled, and the Multistrada 1260 Enduro.
The new Ducati e-mountainbike, the MIG-RR, also played a major role in the presentation and will have its own special area on the Ducati stand at EICMA 2018.
 
Ahead of the unveiling of the all-new motorcycles, the Première also saw presentations of the new versions that will join the 2019 range. These include the Monster 25th Anniversary, first seen at WDW2018, and the new Monster 821 stealth that features matt black livery and red graphics, quick shift system, adjustable fork and nose fairing.
 
Another exciting 2019 bike is the new Multistrada 950 S. A major upgrade of the smallest Ducati ‘multibike’, this latest Multistrada features cutting-edge technology to boost safety and riding enjoyment: electronic Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS), Ducati Quick Shift up & down (DQS), full-LED headlight, 5″ colour TFT display, Hands Free system, Cruise Control and backlit switchgear controls. From a styling viewpoint, the new Multistrada 950 inherits the side ‘wings’ from its bigger 1260 counterpart, making the front even cleaner and more streamlined. It also features hydraulic control and, above all, Bosch ABS Cornering, which increases active safety.
 
The first of the all-new motorcycles in the Ducati 2019 range is the Hypermotard 950, now racier, more adrenalin-packed and rider-friendly. The Ducati ‘fun bike’ par excellence has been given a full-blown makeover: the new look takes its cue from the supermotard race world, the completely overhauled ergonomics ramps up the fun and riders can now count on an ultra-advanced chassis set-up and electronics package.
A full 4 kg lighter than the previous model, the new Hypermotard 950 mounts a renewed 937 cm³ Testastretta 11° engine with a more muscular 114 hp, combining greater pulling power with new electronics to ensure smoother control.
The Hypermotard 950 electronics package includes Bosch Cornering ABS with the Slide by Brake function, Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up and Down EVO (as standard on the 950 SP version and available as an accessory on the 950).
Now even higher-performing and with racing overtones, the Hypermotard 950 SP features a flat seat, increased-travel Öhlins suspension to ensure an acuter lean angle (+3°), Marchesini forged wheels and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up and Down EVO.
 
Another major development, unveiled during the Ducati World Première 2019, is the new Diavel 1260. Unconventional, unique and absolutely unmistakeable: as soon as it was launched at EICMA 2010 the Diavel stunned with its personality, design, sport naked handling and thoroughbred engine.
The second-generation Diavel 1260 remains faithful to the original spirit of that incredibly special bike, drawing on its key styling elements and putting a decidedly more contemporary slant on them: it now offers more assertive outlines and higher performance, is more fun on mixed-road routes and offers greater comfort for rider and passenger alike. Its sport naked soul is evident in the Testastretta DVT 1262 engine, capable of delivering 159 hp (117 kW) at 9,500 rpm and 129 Nm (13.1 kgm) at 7,500 rpm. An immensely satisfying torque curve ensures both breath-taking acceleration and a low-rev smoothness that’s ideal for everyday riding or touring. An upgraded chassis set-up makes the Diavel 1260 more responsive on mixed-road routes while top-drawer technology and electronics provide braking performance on a par with that of a sport bike (and does so safely, thanks to Bosch Cornering ABS) and user-friendly engine performance control. The excellent riding position and ‘power cruiser’ ergonomics that helped make this motorcycle so successful remain unaltered: what has changed is the chassis set-up, characterised by a new tubular steel Trellis frame that goes perfectly with another Diavel hallmark, the 17″ inch rear wheel with its 240 mm wide tyre. The outcome? Superb handling, surprising lean angles and outstanding comfort.
A sportier S version of the Diavel 1260 is also available: features include fully adjustable Öhlins suspension at both front and rear, dedicated wheels and an even higher-performance braking system. Moreover, the S version mounts Ducati Quick Shift up & down Evo (DQS) as standard to allow clutchless shifting.
 
The new livery on the Panigale V4 S Corse aroused enthusiastic interest. Created using official Ducati MotoGP team colours, it mirrors the special version with the exact same colour scheme that Michele Pirro rode to victory in the Race of Champions at WDW2018. That bike and the other 11 variants that competed in the race were won by twelve lucky enthusiasts in a global auction that attracted record-breaking bids.
 
Nevertheless, the undisputed star of the Ducati World Première 2019 – and aspiring candidate for the title of ‘best-looking bike of EICMA2018’ – was the Panigale V4 R.
 
Compared to previous R versions, the Panigale V4 R is now even more specialised and bristles with technology taken directly from MotoGP. The modifications extend far beyond the engine and suspension set-up: they also include the fairing, designed and developed by Ducati Corse in close collaboration with the Ducati Style Centre to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The new fairing also incorporates the aerofoil appendages developed for the MotoGP prototypes. Made of carbon fibre, they increase stability throughout the ride, to allow for reduced reliance on electronic controls, boosting confidence for the pinnacle of rider performance
The Panigale V4 R is, to all intents and purposes, a road-legal WSBK category competition bike and constitutes the technical foundation for the official Ducati Superbikes that will compete in the World Championship as from the 2019 season.
The Desmosedici Stradale 1103 cm3 engine has been replaced with the 998 cm3 Desmosedici Stradale R to comply with displacement limits set by WSBK rules. Unlike the larger V4 – designed to provide fluid power delivery and excellent low-rev pulling power for optimal road use – the 998 cm3 Desmosedici Stradale R offers more extreme performance as power delivery has been designed with the track in mind. Moreover, it’s characterised by lighter internal components (which reduce overall bike weight by 2 kg compared to the Panigale V4S, bringing kerb weight down to just 193 kg). Greater air intake efficiency allows faster engine ‘rev-up’ and shifts the rpm red zone higher to ensure improved acceleration. The result is 221 hp (162 kW) of power at 15,250 rpm (EU homologation values), 2,250 rpm higher than the point of peak power on the 1103 cm3 V4.
