V4 Granturismo: the engine for the next generation of Ducati Multistrada

A new era begins in Borgo Panigale as Ducati presents to the public the new V4 Granturismo, the engine that will equip the long-awaited new generation of Ducati Multistrada, which is going to be unveiled on Wednesday 4 November.

An extremely compact, lightweight, high-performance, torque-rich engine designed to meet the needs required in “adventouring” use without neglecting emotion and sportiness.

Built with latest-generation technology as well as first-in-class materials available, in order to guarantee both durability and reliability, the V4 Granturismo stands out for its record-braking maintenance intervals for a motorcycle engine and has been created as the heart of a high-performance and dynamic bike, ready to explore every corner of the planet with its owner.

The engine was presented to the public  with a video in which Claudio Domenicali – Ducati CEO – and the engineers and technicians who followed its development reveal all its secrets and features to the Ducati enthusiasts.

Every single technical choice made during the development of the V4 Granturismo project have the aim of ensuring maximum fluidity of operation combined with a substantial extension of maintenance intervals.

The new distribution includes a spring valve return system, that brings the maintenance intervals of the V4 Granturismo to 60,000 km. Figures obtained thanks to the in-depth expertise Ducati acquired in the use of materials, treatments and technical solutions developed around the Desmodromic system. All this, applied to a spring valve return system which stresses less the components if compared to the Desmo, brought to set an outstanding milestone never set before by a motorcycle engine. In addition, the engine ensures great regularity of operation at low revs and low loads, without forgetting the outright performance, the power at high revs and the reach of an authentic sports engine: The V4 Granturismo delivers 125 kW (170 hp) of power at 10,500 rpm, and a maximum torque of 125 Nm (12.7 Kgm) at 8,750 rpm. All this respecting the stringent Euro 5 homologation norms.

With its 66.7 kg of weight, the V4 Granturismo can boast a record lightness, being 1,2 kg lighter than the Testastretta twin-cylinder used on the previous Multistrada 1260. The 1,158 cc displacement came out as being the perfect point of connection in terms of performance, lightness and dimension of a V4 engine, capable of being incredibly light and compact. Compared to the previous generation engine, the V4 Granturismo results 85mm shorter, 95mm lower and only 20mm wider. This compact layout allowed Ducati engineers to house the engine in the frame more effectively and centrally in order to positively influence the position of the bike’s center of gravity, with all the resulting benefits.

The V4 Granturismo also inherits some elements derived from the experience gained by Ducati in the racing world, such as the decision to adopt a counter-rotating crankshaft, which improves the handling and agility of the bike, and to exploit the “Twin Pulse” technology, capable of offering a full-bodied but perfectly manageable power delivery at every speed.

To avoid a drop in thermal comfort due to the heat transmitted by the rear cylinders, the V4 Granturismo adopts the strategy of deactivating the rear bank at idle. In this way, when the bike is stationary, the combustion process in the cylinders is halted and this improves the thermal comfort of the rider and passenger thanks to the lowering of temperatures while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption.

Ducati announces the world’s first motorcycle equipped with front and rear radar technology

Front radar

Ducati announces the entry into production of the world’s first motorcycle equipped with front and rear radar technology: the new Multistrada V4.

Production of the Multistrada V4 has begun at the Ducati factory in Borgo Panigale: the first motorcycle to use front and rear radar technology. The Multistrada V4 marks an epochal turning point for the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer and will be officially presented on 4 November.

For the fourth generation of the Multistrada, Ducati has developed a new, light and compact V4 engine, designed to meet the needs required for “adventouring” use without neglecting emotion and sportiness. The complete redesign made it possible to reach record-breaking maintenance intervals for the world of two wheels. All the details of this new engine will be revealed on 15 October.

Ducati brings radars on production bikes, confirming what was anticipated in 2018 ( link to the press release of April 2018 here). The adoption of these systems promises to be a true revolution for the world of two wheels, marking a new level of excellence in terms of comfort and riding assistance, especially on long motorway journeys.

Radars are advanced aid systems capable of supporting and making riding more comfortable thanks to the ability to reconstruct the reality surrounding the motorcycle. Ducati’s interest in this type of systems dates back to 2016, when the Company worked in collaboration with the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano to experiment with this type of systems. This first experience has confirmed the applicability of this kind of technology to vehicles on two wheels, and has pushed Ducati to the creation of a complete package of riding assistance using two radars that, within four years, has been developed and produced in close cooperation with Bosch, a top-level technology partner, and sees its first application on the new Multistrada V4.

Each radar has compact dimensions (70 x 60 x 28 mm, similar to a modern action camera) and integrates perfectly into the bike, weighing only 190 grams.

The radar positioned in the front of the vehicle controls the operation of the ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), which by means of controlled braking and acceleration automatically adjusts the distance (selectable on four levels) from other vehicles when riding at a speed between 30 and 160 km/h. This car-derived system has been evolved and developed according to the dynamics and ergonomics of a two-wheeled vehicle. In particular, the authority of the system in terms of deceleration and acceleration has been limited in order to ensure the rider can maintain constant control of the vehicle in any situation. The system allows for more comfortable riding, especially on long motorway journeys.

Rear radar

The rear radar, on the other hand, is able to detect and report vehicles positioned in the so-called blind spot, i.e. the area not visible either directly by the rider or through the rear-view mirror. The BSD (Blind Spot Detection) system also signals the approaching from behind of vehicles at high speed.

To underline the technical-scientific value of the research project, carried out jointly by Ducati engineers and researchers and undergraduates from the Politecnico di Milano, a patent application relating to the control algorithms of this system was filed in May 2017. In June 2017, a scientific publication was presented at the IEEE – Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV) in Redondo Beach, California.

The Streetfighter V4 becomes even sportier with Ducati Performance accessories

With its 178 kg weight, Desmosedici Stradale 1,103 cc engine producing 208 hp, biplane wings and a latest generation electronic package, the Streetfighter V4 is the absolute expression of Ducati sportiness and of the continuous research that the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer carries out every day towards achieving performance at the top of the segment.

The Ducati Performance catalogue contains numerous accessories, designed and manufactured in collaboration with the best companies in the sector, capable of further enhancing the sporting character and racing soul of the Streetfighter V4, especially in terms of performance when used on the track.

The complete titanium exhaust group, the carbon wing set and the magnesium rims are just some of the elements derived from the racing world with which it is possible to equip this extreme naked and make it an even more unique bike.

All accessories are available and can be purchased on the Ducati website in the dedicated section and in all Ducati dealers.

Complete titanium exhaust system
Designed and developed for the racing world, each part of this system is made from a special titanium alloy ensuring not only considerably lower weight (5.5 kg), but also great resistance to the high temperatures that can be reached. The exhaust system significantly improves the already high weight/power ratio. The map supplied makes it possible to adapt all the parameters of DTC – DWC – DPL and Slide on demand to the new performance of the bike. The perfect accessory to boost the Streetfighter V4’s aggressive look and give it an unmistakable sound. Mid-range power (hp) +6%; mid-range torque (Nm) +6%; maximum power (cv) +6%; maximum torque (Nm) +6%.

Set of carbon wings
Thought for those who want to add a further touch of exclusivity to their bike, this set consists of 4 structural carbon fibre wings. A valuable accessory, extremely carefully handcrafted, which gives the bike an unmistakable look. The lightness of the structural carbon fibre, combined with the shape designed in the wind tunnel, enhance the markedly racing character and the already high performance.

Magnesium rims
The lightness of forged magnesium meets the typically racing design of the 9-spoke wheels, for a pair of rims clearly inspired by the Superbike world. Type-approved for single-seater use, they are the result of the combination of technical racing features with strict standards for type-approval as original equipment. Compared to the traditional aluminium alloy version, the exclusive material of this accessory ensures a reduction in weight by 3 kg (-33%) compared to standard motorcycle versions and 0.7 kg (-10%) compared to S versions. Moreover, it ensures a reduction in inertia by 40% (vs standard) and 12% (vs S), thus improving the vehicle dynamics and the changes of direction, to optimise performance and riding feeling.

Dry clutch kit
Just like in MotoGP, where the only thing that matters is utmost performance, the dry clutch is made available for the other V4 models (it comes standard on the Panigale V4 R). This is an STM EVO-SBK clutch made from billet aluminium with housing and 48-tooth plate pack. The plates are 9 driven and 9 lined with a diameter of 138 mm. When racing on the track there are important benefits in ease of handling. Specifically, the dry clutch ensures a more effective slipper function, even during the most aggressive downshifts, and greater fluidity during all “off-throttle” stages. In addition, the “mechanical” engine brake level can be customised by choosing a different secondary spring from those available from the catalogue. Other important advantages are the absence of resistance from the engine oil and cleaner oil since the plate wear dust is not conveyed into the lubrication circuit. The racing character of the dry clutch and its iconic sound are exciting added benefits for the most passionate Ducatisti.

Dry clutch cover
Designed to offer optimum ventilation of the dry clutch during track use, enhancing its characteristic sound. The lightness and strength of the carbon fibre combine with the race-ready look in an accessory that has a uniquely sporty DNA.

Carbon heel guard
Created to minimise the interference between the bike and the rider’s boots and further embellish the Ducati Performance billet aluminium footpegs. The high-quality material offers maximum lightness and protection whilst also providing the distinct racing look that only carbon fibre can give.

Carbon tank cover
A gorgeous detail to embellishes the front of the tank. The finishing and the lines of this accessory are perfectly integrated into the racing look of this super sports bike.

Passenger seat cover
Made of high quality plastic material, its essential lines integrate perfectly with the design of the Streetfighter V4, allowing the bike to transform from a two-seater to a single-seater.

Billet aluminium tank cap
The unmistakable Ducati design is combined with Rizoma’s experience to create a unique detail, made entirely in Italy, which enhances the bike’s aesthetics. The tank cap is made from billet aluminium and it maintains its original appearance over time thanks to high quality anodising. This accessory is equipped with an anti-tamper system to guarantee maximum safety and it comes with a special key with a Ducati shield graphic.

Pair of handgrips
Inspired by the racing world, these handgrips ensure an excellent grip in every riding situation. Built to avoid accidental slipping of the hand and to reduce the vibrations felt.

Adjustable rider footpegs in aluminium
Developed thanks to the experience of Ducati Corse and the skilful productive care of Rizoma, the adjustable rider foot pegs are made of high quality anodised aluminium alloy that maintains its original appearance over time. Adjustable in five positions, they allow the riders to find the position that best suits their build and riding style. Equipped with fold-away brake and gear change pedals to minimise the risk of breakage in the event of a slip. They use the standard DQS, which can be configured both as a traditional shift and as a reversed/racing shift.

Ducati celebrates the centenary of the birth of the engineer Fabio Taglioni

On the day of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Fabio Taglioni, Ducati celebrates and honours the memory of the italian engineer, designer of numerous revolutionary projects. Among these, the application of the desmodromic distribution system stands out, a technology with which Taglioni inextricably linked his name to the success story of the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer.

Born in San Lorenzo di Lugo on 10 September 1920, Taglioni graduated in mechanical engineering in 1943 and joined Ducati in the role of Technical Director on 1 May 1954, a date that marks the beginning of a flourishing of projects, ideas and patents that earned a place for the legendary Ducati-Taglioni pairing in the two-wheeled world. Only 40 days after joining Ducati, Taglioni created his first marvel – the Gran Sport 100, also known as ‘Marianna’ – which immediately became a force in Italian Gran Fondo long-distance road races.

In the wake of the successes achieved by the Gran Sport 100 and 125, the engineer from Lugo chose to devote himself fully to racing and to embark on the ambitious project of the desmodromic distribution system. Until then, the ‘desmo’ represented a technical and engineering gamble, but Taglioni demonstrated that he had the tenacity and skills to study it, perfect it and make it a winning idea. The first bike to be equipped with the desmodromic system was the 125 GP Desmo, which won its first Grand Prix a month after its debut and established itself in time as the fastest 125 in the world.

In the following years Taglioni actively participated with his work in the industrial rebirth of Ducati, creating projects such as the 175 Gran Turismo and the birth of the Ducati Scrambler, thus demonstrating a level of engineering excellence that was not limited to speed, but also included reliability and resistance.

After having contributed to making Ducati an international brand, Taglioni went back to devoting himself to new projects and prepare Ducati’s return to racing which took place in 1971 with the 500 GP, and in 1972 with the debut of the 750 GT, the first twin-cylinder production bike in the history of the Bologna-based manufacturer, powered by a 90° longitudinal two-cylinder engine. The 750 Imola (a production derivative of the GT) made its debut in record time at the Imola 200 miles and in front of 85,000 spectators achieved one of the greatest feats in the history of motorcycling, with Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari crossing the finish line in front of everyone. Until the end of his career Taglioni continued with innovation and experimentation in the racing field, putting his signature on projects such as the Pantah 500 and 750 F1.

The life and career of engineer Fabio Taglioni were celebrated with an evening entirely dedicated to his memory on Wednesday 9 September in the Pavaglione of Lugo di Romagna, his hometown. The event, sponsored by the municipality of Romagna, saw the participation of Ducati in the figure of the Curator of the Ducati Museum Livio Lodi, who recalled the fundamental stages in the history of collaboration between Taglioni and Ducati. The evening was also attended by the Mayor of the city Davide Ranalli, the Regional Councillor for Tourism Andrea Corsini, the writer Luigi Rivola and many other personalities such as the famous Italian comedian Giuseppe Giacobazzi, who recounted in his personal style the historic feat of the Ducatis and Taglioni at the Imola 200 miles in 1972.

The mini-series ‘Fabio Taglioni – A Life of Passion’ is currently being broadcast on the Ducati website and YouTube channel. The episodes tell the story of the engineer from Romagna, accompanied by exclusive images and videos.

R&G Partners With ‘King Carl’ To Produce Limited-edition Knee Sliders

Ducati and MT Distribution present a new line of folding e-bikes

After the success of the electric scooters, Ducati and MT Distribution, licensee and commercial partner, present three new models of folding bicycles with pedal assistance.

The folding e-bike line, born from the partnership between Ducati and MT Distribution, is designed for those who want to move around the city without compromising on style and comfort and is made up of three models: Urban-E, under the Ducati brand, and SCR -E and SCR-E Sport, dedicated to the Ducati Scrambler world.

As for the scooters, considerable attention has been paid to design in the development of the e-bikes, for which the Centro Stile Ducati was responsible. For the Urban-E model, Ducati designers collaborated with Italdesign, to propose a unique model of its kind, with customized components characterized by an original and distinctive style.

The two folding e-bike models dedicated to the Ducati Scrambler “Land of Joy” are available on the market since July, while the Ducati branded e-bike will be available to buy from October.

SCR-E is one of two pedal-assisted bicycle models made with the Ducati Scrambler brand. The fat wheels 20” x 4” allow riders to travel with full grip even on rough or off-road sections. The 374.4 Wh battery is fully integrated into the frame and, when fully charged, allows to travel up to 70 km. The frame is in aluminium and is equipped with a deluxe handle with easy-folding technology for a simple and quick closure of the vehicle. The rear lights are integrated into the seat post to maintain a clean and attractive aesthetic line. The LCD display is of the latest generation and mounts a twilight sensor for the automatic switching on of the lights and the detection of the external temperature.

SCR-E SPORT is the sportiest evolution of the SCR-E model, also branded Ducati Scrambler. The full suspension model is equipped with a double shock absorber: front fork and rear spring shock integrated in the frame. The single wall alloy wheels and road tyres give the model a refined and sporty appearance. The enhanced 468 Wh battery is fully integrated into the chassis and can travel up to 80 km.

Urban-E , available in black or grey, is built around the special aluminium frame with easy-folding locking system created by the designers of the Centro Stile Ducati in collaboration with colleagues from Italdesign’s Industrial Design division. The handlebar has a fully integrated LCD display in the stem that allows the rider to control all the assistance functions, to check the remaining battery charge and to turn the LED lights integrated in the frame on and off. Designers and developers have worked together to create an e-bike with a clean and linear style. The 378 Wh battery is integrated into the frame and becomes an element of style itself, recalling the motorbike fuel tanks in its typical Ducati red colour and curved shape. The suspension fork, the fat 20″ x 4″ tyres with Kevlar anti-puncture technology mounted on double wall aluminium rims and the rear mudguard, in addition to accentuating the racing style, ensure maximum riding comfort, even on the most irregular of surfaces.

For further information on the purchase and availability of products, please contact MT Distribution, whose contacts can be found on the website www.mtdistribution.it. A selection of e-bike modes will also be available at Ducati dealers and in the Ducati Shop Online.

New livery for the Ducati Multistrada 950 S: “Every road, a new world

Ducati completes the colour range of the Multistrada 950 S for the Model Year 2021 by introducing a new “GP White” livery, which adds to the classic Ducati Red colour.

The “GP White” livery takes its inspiration from the Ducati MotoGP graphics and is based on a colour scheme that alternates white and grey, maintaining the unmistakable Ducati touch in some red details, like in the frame and in the graphics on the alloy wheels. This new colouring was designed by the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer to add sportiness to the Multistrada 950 S, which makes elegance, fluidity and balance of lines its strengths.

The Ducati Multistrada 950 is the ideal motorcycle to experience the excitement of the journey every day, rediscovering well-known roads or venturing into new territories. Riding pleasure and versatility make it perfect for any type of use. The low weight, the 19″ front wheel and the reduced seat height (840 mm) ensure agility and ease of riding, while the advanced technological equipment guarantees maximum safety and comfort in all conditions, both for those who want to tackle long journeys, maybe as a couple and with luggage, and for those looking for an agile and fun bike to use every day.

On the occasion of the launch of the new livery, the Multistrada 950 S “GP White” was the protagonist of a true “Extraordinary Journey ” set among the unmistakable landscapes of the Motor Valley in Emilia-Romagna. For a motorcycle that makes every road a new world, this land is the ideal place to enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of the regional and Italian territory.

The Multistrada 950, in its S version, is equipped with the most innovative technology at the service of safety and riding pleasure: electronic suspension with Ducati Skyhook Suspension Evo (DSS) system, Ducati Quick Shift up & down (DQS), full-LED headlamp with Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL), 5” colour TFT display, Hands Free system, Cruise Control and backlit handlebar controls, as well as Bosch ABS Cornering, which increases the active safety of the vehicle. Starting from MY21, the entire Multistrada 950 range, powered by the Testastretta 11° engine (937 cc and 113 hp), will comply with Euro 5 standard in all countries where it is in force.

On all models of the Multistrada family, Ducati offers the exclusive “4Ever Multistrada” warranty, valid for 4 years with unlimited mileage. The warranty relies on the service offered by the entire network of dealers of the Bologna-based company, a competent and constantly trained team that treats every Ducati motorcycle with the same care with which it is designed and assembled in Borgo Panigale.

The Multistrada 950 S “GP White”, both in the alloy wheels and spoked wheels versions, will be available in Ducati dealers within July.

“The Red Essence. In white”: new livery for the Ducati Panigale V2

The colour range of the Panigale V2 is extended with the new White Rosso livery, which goes alongside the monochromatic Ducati Red livery with which the bike was presented last November.

The new White Rosso livery has Star White Silk as its main colour. The predominance of white enhances the design of the Panigale V2, highlighting the lines and the purity of the geometrical shapes. At the same time the details in Ducati Red emphasize its sporty and powerful character. The Ducati Red colours the rims, the front air intakes and the deflectors of the upper half-fairings. These last two red touches ideally accompany the path of the airflows inside the motorcycle, i.e. those that feed the engine and those that pass through the radiator.

This new livery is completed with an additional touch of sportiness thanks to the positioning on the lower half-fairings of the large Panigale V2 logo, inspired by the graphics of Ducati Corse motorcycles.

Testimonial of the Panigale V2 and protagonist of the photo and video shooting of the new livery is the rider of the Pramac Racing Team Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia. In fact, Pecco was able to enjoy a preview of the bike by testing it at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”.

“Since 2016, my personal motto has been #GoFree. For me it means living in a light-hearted and carefree way, having fun and giving priority to the things you love to do. I think the Panigale V2 fits well with this definition and reflects my way of being “, said Pecco Bagnaia after trying the Panigale V2. “The new livery, so white, is very beautiful and different from the usual. Despite being a street bike, it surprised me how much speed it can have when cornering. It is a fun, very stable and very sincere bike that allows you to go fast, safely, without becoming tired, while having a very strong and decisive character and personality.”

The Panigale V2, presented less than a year ago and capable of immediately conquering an enthusiastic public, is the super-mid of the Ducati sports bikes and represents the entry model to the Panigale family. It is powered by the 955 cc Superquadro twin-cylinder engine (compliant with Euro 5 standard) and has a maximum power of 155 hp at 10,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The power of the Panigale V2 allows to have fun on the track, delivering a motorcycle in the hands of the rider that never puts you in difficulty and can always be fully exploited. The delivery of the twin-cylinder is such that more than 70% of the maximum torque is constantly available beyond 5,500 rpm, allowing to get out of the corners quickly, even the slowest ones.

The chassis of the Panigale V2 is based on the monocoque frame and is dressed in an elegant and sporty design inspired by that of the Panigale V4. The fairing has extensive and clean surfaces that surround the mechanical components, enhancing the small size of the Superquadro twin-cylinder and creating a visually compact motorcycle.

The “family feeling” with the other Panigale models is also underlined by the single-sided swingarm, while the compact-sized single lateral exit exhaust, with under-engine silencer, emphasizes the clean lines of the Panigale V2.

The complete and modern electronic equipment, based on the 6-axis inertial platform, leaves no doubt about the sporting DNA of the bike. The electronic package, dedicated to active safety and vehicle dynamics control, includes the “cornering” functionality applied to the Bosch ABS, an electronic gearbox, with operation also in downshift and traction, engine braking and wheelie controls. All the controls are integrated into the three Riding Modes (Race, Sport and Street) that can be modified via the 4.3” TFT colour dashboard with graphics and interface designed to make menu navigation and setting adjustments intuitive, as well as the immediate identification of the selected Riding Mode.

The chassis has fully-adjustable suspension with a Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF) 43 mm in diameter and a Sachs shock absorber set up to make the bike intuitive, agile and fun; in addition, the specific calibration of the hydraulic brakes makes it comfortable for road use. Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II multi-compound tyres, which combine track performance with versatility on the road, also contribute to the dynamic qualities of the Panigale V2.

The ergonomics of the semi-handlebars and the rider seat offer a non-fatiguing position on the road and an efficient one on the track, thus allowing the rider to move freely.

The technical equipment is completed by a Sachs steering damper and by a Brembo braking system with M4.32 monobloc callipers activated by a radial brake master cylinder. The discs are 320 mm in diameter at the front with a single 245 mm disc at the rear. Braking is powerful, never excessively aggressive and always adjustable.

The Panigale V2 in White Rosso livery will be available in Ducati dealers from July 2020.

Superleggera V4 001/500 delivered at Borgo Panigale

The number 001/500 model of the Ducati Superleggera V4 – the only motorcycle in the world homologated for road use with carbon fibre frame, swingarm and rims and produced by the Italian motorcycle manufacturer in a limited run of just 500 units – has been officially delivered to its new owner, the Belgian Ducatista Filip Van Schil, who already possesses nine other Ducati bikes.

For the occasion Ducati invited Van Schil to the Borgo Panigale factory for a special tour, in which he was able to see up close the line where his motorbike was built and meet the specialized worker who made its engine. The day then continued with a visit to the company Museum, the Centro Stile Ducati and the Racing Department. In addition, as with all the other Superleggera V4 owners, Filip will have an incredible opportunity to test the Panigale V4 R, which competes in the SBK World Championship, on the track at Mugello as part of the “Superbike Experience”.

“When I received the call and the official invitation to come to Borgo Panigale to collect my Superleggera V4, the number 001 of 500, although I have always been a Ducatista, my legs trembled with emotion,” said Filip Van Schil. “A welcome like this, even though I was the first to call and order the bike, is something unimaginable. Receiving it directly in the company and touching the passion of the people who work in Borgo Panigale is an experience that I will always remember. Days like this are what make Ducati unique and different from all the other motorcycle manufacturers.”

It was Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, who unveiled the Superleggera V4 001, and then handed it over to its new owner. The ceremony took place inside the Centro Stile Ducati.

“Today is a special day. Experiencing on the track in the morning the incredible emotions that a Superleggera V4 can give at Mugello, and then handing over the keys of the 001/500 motorcycle to the first customer in the afternoon makes this day truly magical! Being able to meet and see the passion of our customers in person is always very exciting, and even more so is making them proud and allowing their dreams to come true,” said Claudio Domenicali. “The Superleggera V4 is the only motorcycle in the world approved for road use with a carbon fibre frame, subframe, swingarm and rims. It is a mix of mechanical engineering, technique and “made in Italy” design that amazes for its performance, style and attention to detail. I am really proud of the work done by all the technicians and engineers of Borgo Panigale, they have created an engineering masterpiece that fully embodies the fundamental values of our brand: Style, Sophistication, Performance and Trust. Today another star of the Ducati firmament was born, dedicated to our most passionate customers, and to collectors and connoisseurs.”

The attention that Ducati wished to reserve for the Ducatista does not stop with an invitation to the company and the delivery of a copy of the book Stile Ducati bearing the date of this unforgettable day and a special dedication from Claudio Domenicali. As will all those who have bought or will buy a Superleggera V4, Van Schil also received a sculptural reproduction of the Superleggera V4 personalized with the number of the bike it accompanies. The Superleggera V4 will be delivered to owners accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and inside a wooden crate with dedicated graphics, specially created for the transport of this masterpiece of motor engineering.

“Each one of our daily decisions is dictated by the goal of making our fans happier and prouder. I am very happy to be here with Mr. Van Schil because this ceremony testifies the passion, professionalism and attention to detail that we reserve for our customers and fans in Borgo Panigale today, as in all our dealers around the world,” said Francesco Milicia, VP Global Sales and After Sales. “Ducati dealers allow fans to get hold of our bikes, our clothing and the entire range of accessories, but also to experience a meeting place where, with competent people dedicated to them, they can share their passion and great emotions. Today’s ceremony represents all of this and is a symbolic delivery for Ducati enthusiasts all over the world.”

Even more incredible and exclusive is the opportunity, limited to only 30 owners of the Superleggera V4, to purchase access to the “MotoGP Experience”. For the first time, in fact, it will be possible to ride the Desmosedici GP on the circuit, followed directly by Ducati Corse technicians, making a dream come true for all fans of sports bikes and the red bikes of Borgo Panigale.

Pirelli Creates A Tyre That Fits Like A Glove

Pirelli fits the most powerful and technologically advanced production Ducati ever with DIABLOTM SUPERCORSA SP tyres in the sizes 120/70ZR17 and 200/60ZR17, specially developed to manage the high-performance level achieved by the Superleggera V4

Pirelli engineers developed a special and customised version of the DIABLOTM SUPERCORSA SP to achieve the challenging performance target required by the most powerful and technologically advanced production Ducati ever. This tyre is able to manage the extraordinary performance of the Superleggera V4 and make the most of the significant aerodynamic load generated by the biplane wings, which highly characterise the aggressive design of the motorcycle.

Ducati Superleggera V4

The Superleggera V4 Ducati is the world’s only street-legal motorcycle with a frame, subframe, swingarm and wheels – the entire load-bearing structure of the chassis – made entirely of carbon fibre. The 90° V4 engine is capable to deliver up to 234 HP, and the lowest achievable weight of 152Kg highlights an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1.54 CV / kg. Another important aspect is that of aerodynamics: thanks to the biplane wings and other carbon fibre components, the bike is able to guarantee up to 50 kg of downforce, allowing better stability and acceleration.

As technical partner and exclusive tyre supplier, Pirelli worked closely with Ducati during the development of the Superleggera V4 and had to take some radical technical choices in order to create a highly innovative tyre to meet the challenging performance target set by Ducati. This situation  already happened previously, for example with the first Panigale V4 for which Pirelli developed the DIABLOTMSUPERCORSA SP V3 in the first ever street-legal size 200/60ZR17.

The current DIABLO™ SUPERCORSA SP belongs to the third generation of the popular race replica tyre and was developed also thanks to Pirelli’s constant commitment and experience in the racing field, in particular as the Official Sole Supplier of the FIM Superbike World Championship since 2004.

The front tyre is single compound, a solution that allows rapid warm-up and constant grip in any situation. The rear tyre is dual compound and uses a racing compound developed in the FIM Superbike World Championship on the shoulders. The sidewalls are slightly rounded as a result of the total redesign work made on the tyre structure with the aim of managing the performance that the Superleggera V4 is capable of. Finally, the sidewalls are special color edition tyres and bear the red Pirelli and Diablo logo.

DIABLO SUPERCORSA SP V3 CE

Over the years, DIABLO ™ SUPERCORSA SP has established a new reference point for race replica tyres and, thanks to its innovative features, has been chosen by Ducati as the original equipment of the brand new Superleggera V4, as well as many other motorcycle manufacturers from all over the world that have turned to Pirelli to equip their latest flagship models.

Ducati builds an exclusive Scrambler Ducati 1100 series for Scuderia Club Italia members

The result of close collaboration between the Ducati Design Center and Scuderia Club Italia, the Scrambler Ducati Club Italia is a limited-edition motorcycle intended exclusively for members of this venerable association.

Scuderia Club Italia is a sports-cultural association, founded in 1989 by vintage/racing car drivers, connoisseurs and enthusiasts. Its members – no more than eighty as per the association’s statute – are united by a burning passion for automobiles. Club Italia does much to promote Italian cars through sporting events or by attending key shows. What’s more, it designs and develops original versions of cars and motorcycles.

Development of this special Scrambler Ducati Club Italia series comes as a follow-up to a previous joint design by Bologna-based Ducati and the Scuderia: back in 1995 the partnership produced thirty-six “Monster 900 Club Italia” bikes, now sought-after collector’s items.

Built on the technical foundation of the Scrambler Ducati 1100 Sport PRO, the Scrambler Ducati Club Italia features unique graphics and a wealth of accessories, making it the most exclusive Scrambler ever built by Ducati.

Design highlights on this “special” include the red leather seat by Poltrona Frau with embroidered Club Italia logo and the metallic blue tank with bright red side panels, topped off by the Giugiaro-designed Ducati logo. The frame has the same metallic blue finish as the tank, while the rear subframe comes in natural aluminium. The front and rear fenders are in aluminium with a tricolour finish. Spoked wheels (with black rims and spokes) complete the bike’s eye-catching character. Moreover, an aluminium plaque on the frame identifies the series number.

To create this special version, the Scrambler Ducati 1100 Sport PRO technical platform has been enhanced with type-approved Termignoni titanium silencers and a billet aluminium tank cap, the underside of which sports the Club Italia shield logo. The LED indicator bodies are in billet aluminium, as are the brake and clutch levers, brake and clutch fluid reservoir covers, frame plugs and footpegs. A headlight mesh guard gives the front end of the Scrambler Ducati Club Italia an assertive, original feel, while heated grips offer comfort and practicality in the colder months.

Association members were given an exclusive preview of the Scrambler Ducati Club Italia on Saturday 20 June, with the event seeing the arrival of the first orders. Bike deliveries will begin in September. Each customer will also receive a personalised bike cover, a certificate of authenticity and a hand-crafted Bell helmet that matches the colour of the bike and features dedicated graphics.

“When you get the chance to work alongside people who share your passion for beautifully-made things, for engines and for Italy, enormous satisfaction with the resulting work and the final outcome is virtually guaranteed”, commented the head of the Ducati Design Center, Andrea Ferraresi. “The Scrambler Ducati Club Italia demonstrates this wonderfully. It represents a perfect balance of sportiness, style and attention to detail. Together with the members of the Scuderia Club Italia we chose just the right tone of blue, the material for the saddle, the logo and the special equipment package. Nothing was left to chance. Every alteration was meticulously assessed and shared. The icing on the cake was being able to present this inimitable bike to Club members in person, together with Giulio Malagoli, Ducati Product Marketing Director”.

Moreover, the Ducati-Scuderia Club Italia partnership goes beyond creating exceptional bikes: it also involves donations destined for the fight against Covid-19. For each bike purchased by an association member, in fact, 500 euros will go to the #raceagainstCovid, the Ducati-organised fund-raising scheme designed to help the S. Orsola Hospital in Bologna provide effective convalescence for those recovering from Covid-19.

Scuderia Club Italia, over thirty years of timeless projects
The history of Scuderia Club Italia – an association founded back in 1989 “to promote restoration, conservation, tracing and research into Italian cars, […] and share the cultural heritage and technical-sports ethic that have, over the years, had a profound impact on car development” – is, first and foremost, a history written by and for vintage car collectors. But that’s not all. Because the passion for vintage cars, especially Italian cars, inevitably merges with a passion for beauty in all its forms. In its more than thirty years of activity, Scuderia Club Italia and its members – men and women who think of beauty in superlative terms that, to many others, seem impossible – have built that beauty into cars, motorcycles, bicycles and watches. Small limited editions, all sporting the Club’s tricolour shield, of which the Ducati Scrambler Club Italia presented here today is simply the latest chapter in a book begun in 1992 with a Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione 16V Club Italia: a book whose ending resides in the dreams of the members of Scuderia Club Italia.
