Highly anticipated Vmoto ‘Stash’ set to hit UK in April

Highly anticipated Vmoto ‘Stash’ set to hit UK in AprilVmoto, the UK’s premier electric bike brand, is on track to make waves in the electric bike market with the long-awaited release of the Vmoto Stash- for delivery to customers in late April/ early May. Building on the brands’ solid reputation among electric bike enthusiasts, Vmoto aims to redefine the industry with this innovative model which bridges the gap from budget to high performance e-machines.

The Vmoto Stash, initially unveiled as a prototype last year, is now ready to hit the streets in its full production form. The model sets a new standard for electric bikes, offering enhanced power and sophistication. Notably, the best-selling company has transitioned from the ‘Super Soco’ branding to proudly wear the ‘Vmoto’ label, keeping all models under one banner, with the Stash marking its position as the flagship model in a more premium line-up.

Designed by the renowned British designer Adrian Morton (from the European C-Creative style centre), one of the most famous two-wheeler designers of recent years., known for iconic creations such as the MV Agusta F4 and Benelli Tornado Tre, the Vmoto Stash boasts a captivating design that is sure to impress.

A standout feature of the Vmoto Stash is its innovative storage design. The space between the seat and handlebars serves as a spacious storage compartment, capable of accommodating most full-face helmets. Beneath this storage area resides a robust 100Ah, 72V battery, packing 7.2kWh of energy, which powers an electric motor mounted on the front of the swingarm, driving the rear wheel via a chain.

The motor offers a nominal power of 8kW (equivalent to 10.7bhp), making it suitable for L-plate riders as it falls below the 11kW (15hp) limit for 125cc learner machines. However, the Vmoto Stash delivers even more power through its ‘boost’ mode, pushing the peak power to an impressive 15kW (20.1bhp). This added boost not only enhances acceleration but also raises the top speed from 68.4mph (110km/h) to 74.6mph (120km/h) for brief periods, facilitating safe overtaking manoeuvres.

Additional specifications include a total weight of 143kg, an impressive range of 93.2 miles (150km) on a single charge, a compact wheelbase of 1373mm, and a comfortable seat height of 830mm.

The Vmoto Stash also features a unique braking system with levers on both handlebars, like a scooter, eliminating the need for foot controls. This combined brake system engages both the front and rear brakes simultaneously when either lever is applied. Both front and rear brakes are hydraulic, featuring discs at each end, with the front held by a robust radial-mount calliper. Furthermore, the Vmoto Stash includes standard ABS for added safety. Equipped with 17-inch wheels, the bike features high quality Pirelli Diablo Rosso (110/70 rubber at the front and 140/70 at the rear) as standard for the first 40 available in the UK, and as an option thereafter.

CEO, of the now manufacturer owned, Vmoto Soco UK following a takeover from the previous distributor in 2022. Clive Mann said, “We couldn’t be more excited for the Stash, this indicates a new era for Vmoto by bridging the gap between electric and ICE and providing not just high-quality but great value learner legal vehicles. 2024 will see huge pushes for us as a brand in the UK and worldwide, and this is just the beginning”.

The Vmoto Stash is priced at a launch only price of £6299 + OTR a higher price point than the current range-topping TC Max (£4499) due to its far superior performance and larger battery capacity. It is also available in Black and Blue colourways.

Vmoto enthusiasts can pre-order their Stash now with stock arriving in the UK around April/May 2024.

Zero Motorcycles awarded Maudes Trophy after epic electric winter endurance ride

Despite temperatures plummeting to -6°C and snow and ice throwing barriers in their way the team from Zero Motorcycles completed its challenge for the Auto Cycle Union’s Maudes Trophy, riding over 1100 miles, between four points of the UK, in just over 60 hours.

Setting off from Lands End last Wednesday morning, the team of seven riders took turns to ride a pair of all-electric Zero DSR/X motorcycles in relay on a challenge set out to test and prove the viability of electric motorcycles, as well as the public charging infrastructure in the UK. The team had a trouble free first day, checking into Lowestoft, the easternmost point of the British Isles, but the ride north to Edinburgh proved treacherous as temperatures plummeted and heavy snow fell. Despite conditions deteriorating, the team carried on, albeit at reduced speeds – arriving in the icy Scottish capital in the early hours of Friday morning.

The challenge was completed on Friday, when the team rode through Cumbria and into North Wales, arriving at the final checkpoint in Holyhead mid-afternoon. From Holyhead, the bikes were ridden for a final 100 miles to Liverpool, where the team were awarded the ACU’s prestigious Maudes Trophy ahead of the FIM Awards ceremony, held at the city’s convention centre.

The Maudes Trophy was first awarded 100 years ago, to Norton Motorcycles, and is given to motorcycle manufacturers for completing observed endurance challenges. Zero are the 11th manufacturer to complete a Maudes Trophy challenge and the first to be powered by anything other than petrol.

Seven riders battled the elements to ride the bikes in shifts, including the National Motorcyclists Council’s Craig Carey-Clinch, former racer Curt Langan and bike journalist Martin Fitz-Gibbons. The remaining team members were staff from authorised Zero dealerships: Andy Dalton from Wheels Motorcycles, Matthew Drew from J&M Electrobikes and Macauley Perkins and Ben Grayson from The Bike Sanctuary.

Speaking after the challenge Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ UK Country Manager, said: “Wow, what a ride and much more an endurance of man than machine. The bikes performed faultlessly but the biggest challenge was for the riders, riding in sub-zero conditions. They stuck to the task with great dedication and not one gave up, when they could have been forgiven for doing so.

“Aside from the honour of winning this prestigious award, it has been an excellent opportunity for all involved to learn more about riding electric motorcycles in extreme conditions. Potential customers are often asking questions about touring and riding in cold temperatures. Our dealers now have first-hand experience, riding in conditions no Zero owner is likely to ever find themselves in, and we have been able to prove our product in these most challenging conditions. It feels fitting to be the first EV company to win this trophy, and 100 years after it was first awarded. Electric motorcycles are no longer the future but a viable proposition for many riders today.”

Craig Carey-Clinch added: “In such extreme cold weather conditions, teamworking was vital to the success of the ride and every member played a key part in what was a grueling ride at times. I started the challenge with an open mind about the capability of electric motorcycles on long distance journeys, but the DSR/Xs performed very well considering the extreme cold. However, when it comes to infrastructure for riders, much more needs to be done by public authorities if they want to encourage a switch to ePTWs. It’s not that charging facilities are rare, the opposite in fact, but that many have no facilities or shelter for riders waiting off their bikes. This is a matter the NMC will look in to further.”

Zero’s Maudes Trophy challenge was supported by a number of UK partners, including Lexham Insurance, Pirelli, Moto Novo Finance, Pidcock Motorcycles, Oakley Motorcycles, J&M Electrobikes, Wheels Motorcycles, Cradley Kawasaki, JPB Signs and Magnet Motos.

Zero Motorcycles announces even more accessible 2024 model line-up

Zero Motorcycles has today unveiled its most accessible range of all-electric motorcycles yet, with an exciting line up containing four new models which have been designed to offer something for riders of all ages and licence categories.

New for learners and A1 licence holders, the 2024 Zero S and DS utilise Zero’s award-winning Fixed Steel Trellis (FST) platform, offering a pair of more accessible models for riders as young as 17-years-old, while the range topping DSR/X Black Forest is the most highly specified Zero to date. These three models are joined by a new FST based DSR for A2 licence holders, while the SR is also retuned for A2 licence holders. Both can be upgraded to unlock more power when the rider’s licence permits.

New colours give a fresh look to the carryover FX, FXE, SR/F, SR/S and DSR/X. All models are more competitively priced, with Zero taking advantage of new production facilities to offer lower RRPs than 12 months ago. All 2024 models are available from official Zero Motorcycles dealerships imminently.

2024 Zero S
Built on Zero’s award-winning FST platform, the 2024 Zero S brings all the style of the SR/F streetfighter to the A1 licence category.

Highly specified with fully adjustable Showa suspension, Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres and Zero’s latest Cypher III+ operating system, the 2024 Zero S is powered by a large 14.4kWh battery, giving a range of over 150 miles as standard, with a number of upgrades to the battery and charging capacity available.

Delivering 11kw of continuous power, as per A1 licence regulations, the Zero S can be ridden without the need to take a full motorcycle test. A generous 132Nm of torque, combined with twist and go transmission, makes the Zero S both fun and easy to ride, while an 86mph top speed ensures it is more than capable of keeping up with traffic on the open road.

Priced at £15,300 (plus on the road charges) the Zero S comes in a new White-Silver colourway.

2024 Zero DS
Bringing the effortless adventure sports experience pioneered by the DSR/X to a wider audience, the 2024 Zero DS offers CBT and A1 category licence holders a premium entry into the world of full-sized electric motorcycling.

As with all Zero motorcycles, the DS features high quality chassis components, such as fully adjustable suspension from Showa, Pirelli Scorpion STR tyres and an ABS braking system developed by Bosch.

Zero’s Z-Force 75-10 permanent magnet AC motor has been tuned to meet the 11kw continuous power output but, with a hefty 132Nm of torque and peak output of 60bhp, the Zero DS enjoys elevated levels of performance beyond that expected from a learner legal motorcycle.

With a 14.4kWh battery pack and up to 144 miles of range, the Zero DS opens up electrified adventure riding to a whole new generation of riders. The 2024 Zero DS comes in a Quicksilver livery and will be priced £16,200 (plus OTR charges).

2024 Zero DSR
With added performance and a larger capacity, 15.6kWh, battery the 2024 Zero DSR offers even more capability for A2 licence holders.

Built on the same ‘FST’ platform as the range topping DSR/X, the DSR boasts over 150 miles of range and a 93mph top speed, making it an ideal companion for A2 licence holders looking to experience adventure touring, Zero style.

Featuring a high chassis specification utilising Zero’s coaxial power pivot technology, the DSR is powered by the much-feted Z-Force 75-10 motor, delivering 70bhp peak power and a massive 170Nm of torque. One of the unique features of the 2024 Zero DSR (and the SR roadster) is its ability to be upgraded to meet the rider’s licence eligibility and personal tastes. Official Zero Motorcycles dealerships are able to retrospectively offer a power upgrade for full ‘A’ licence holders, matching the specifications of the DSR/X, while the battery capacity can also be increased to 17.3kWh.

The innovative Cypher III+ operating system also allows owners to add upgrades their motorcycles to meet their specific requirements, while the optional 6kw Rapid Charger can see the DSR recharge from fully empty to 95% in around 85 minutes.

The 2024 Zero DSR comes in a new Silver livery and will cost £17,000 when it goes on sale this month.

2024 Zero DSR/X Black Forest
Taking the DSR/X to a new level, the DSR/X Black Forest is a limited edition model developed for the most serious of motorcycle adventurers. Built on the critically acclaimed DSR/X platform, every Black Forest leaves the factory fully equipped for the most challenging adventurers.

Presented in a lustrous gloss black finish unique to the Black Forest, this limited edition model rolls straight out of the factory fully loaded with premium parts and special graphics to mark this out as the most luxurious Zero motorcycle to date.

Zapp Reveals Production Version Of i300 Carbon Launch Edition

Zapp Electric Vehicles Limited (“Zapp” or the “Company”), a UK-based high-performance two-wheel electric vehicle company, today revealed the production version of its limited-run i300 Carbon Launch Edition.

The i300 Carbon Launch Edition is designed and built with premium specifications, featuring unique carbon fibre fender, diamond cut wheels, a red rear spring, carbon hard carrier and a commemorative plaque with the founder’s signature. Just 1,000 units will be built.

Today also sees the launch of the new Zapp e-commerce website (www.zappev.com) which features a high-definition 3D configurator for customers to explore and build the i300, as well as order their bike.

In combination with Zapp’s boutique-style Paris flagship store, the new website marks the rollout of Zapp’s innovative drop-ship-direct-to-customer (DSDTC) sales model, which offers customers more control over how they build and order their i300, online or in-store. A “Zapper”, a franchised and trained technician, in a Zapper van will deliver and service Zapp vehicles at the location of the customer’s choice.

Swin Chatsuwan, founder and CEO of Zapp, said: “We are incredibly proud of the i300 Carbon Launch Edition. It is our expression of performance and style. With the launch of the new Zapp website, we are upholding our philosophy to make Zapp vehicles ‘easy to buy and easy to own.’ Zapp’s boutiques are relaxed places where customers can discover the product and ownership experiences in a friendly, informative, no-haggling environment. Equally, our new configurator and website have been built on simplicity and transparency for the customer.”

The Paris store is the first of a global network of Zapp stores which will offer customers the opportunity to test ride the i300 , as well as to learn about the product.

As an antidote to the traditional automotive showroom model, Zapp experts will be on hand to introduce the i300 and all of its features and guide the customer through the online configuration and ordering process.

If a customer prefers to order online without visiting a store, they can do so on www.zappev.com. This offers price transparency and freedom of choice across the sales journey.

The DSDTC model has been designed to uphold Zapp’s core philosophy of ensuring its vehicles are ‘easy to buy and easy to own’. Every customer will have their i300 delivered to an address of their choice. The bike will be delivered in a Zapper van by a trained Zapper, who will provide a complete handover of the i300.

Any servicing of the i300 will also be performed on-site at a location of the customer’s choice – whether at home, an office or somewhere else – by a Zapper in a Zapper van.

The Zapp i300 electric performance city bike is built around an exoskeleton architecture and powered by an advanced electric motor, enabling it to match the acceleration of high-performance motorcycles in a step-through architecture. The i300’s interior permanent magnet electric motor and carbon fibre belt drive combine to drive acceleration from 0 to 30 mph (48km/h) in just 2.3 seconds and from 0 to 50 mph (97km/h) in 5.0 seconds.

Super Soco-Vmoto UK Acquired by Manufacturer

UK’s biggest selling electric motorcycle distributor (Super Soco-Vmoto UK) acquired by manufacturer.

The UK’s best-selling electric motorcycle brand, Super Soco (Vmoto) has been strategically bought out by the manufacturer (Vmoto Soco Group), to guarantee long term stability to owners and dealers.

The UK distributor, which has promoted the brand since 2015 to make it synonymous with electric bikes, will now be known as Vmoto Soco UK.

A new range of machines, available from just £1,699, will continue to sell under the Super Soco name, alongside newly introduced premium Vmoto branded models such as the newly launched and well-received ‘Stash’ machine. Additionally, dedicated Vmoto fleet models will further extend the important fleet sales opportunity for delivery bikes.

With electric scooters and lower output motorcycles continuing to grow in popularity, these product ranges of dealer sold and delivery fleet models should bolster this vibrant sector of the UK market.

Vmoto Soco Group Managing Director Mr Charles Chen said, “This is a strategic acquisition that provides Vmoto with direct access to over 50 active B2C dealers in the UK, which is an important EV market for the company and will allow Vmoto to further expand its presence in the UK with an established management team. Direct sales to the B2C dealers will also allow Vmoto to grow the UK market share with more focused support.”

Andy Fenwick, Managing Director, Vmoto UK Distribution Limited commented; “Super Soco has become very well known amongst electric bike fans in the UK and our dealer network has made great strides in building brand confidence, so it is great that the manufacturer itself has invested into the distributor.”

Clive Mann Vmoto Soco UK Sales Director added “This acquisition is a potential game changer for the UK two wheel EV market, allowing for us to push the Vmoto Super Soco as a manufacturer owned brand to the next level. Our aim is for this to benefit all, dealers, the environment and ultimately the end customer, the rider”

Super Soco Launches New Model Set To Redefine Urban Mobility

The UK’s best-selling electric motorcycle brand, Super Soco, has introduced a brand-new model that provides a realistic and affordable alternative to e-bikes and e-scooters for urban mobility. The Super Soco CU mini offers the brand’s market-leading technology at the accessible price of just £1,699*.

The launch of the CU mini sees Super Soco further strengthen its position as the UK’s premier provider of lightweight electric powered-two wheelers (e-PTWs). The nimble and efficient model is set to redefine just how simple it can be to get around the city or town in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible way.
Electric motorcycles are governed by the same licensing and road laws already in existence for their petrol-powered equivalents, so unlike other commuting options such as e-scooters, the CU mini fits seamlessly into the transport network with no disruption.

While e-bikes are restricted to a top speed of just 15mph in the UK, the CU mini’s 600-watt motor provides a top speed of 25mph, allowing effortless and stable progression through city traffic. With safety paramount, the braking system offers impressive stopping power from the 130mm front and rear discs.

The CU mini’s gear-free, twist and go operation makes the bike incredibly easy to ride. It is AM licence-compliant and can be ridden upon completion of a one-day Compulsory Basic Training course, or by those who obtained a car licence prior to 2001.
The removable lithium-ion battery is the lightest in its class and offers true flexibility without sacrificing on range. Weighing just 7kg, it can be charged at home or work from any standard three-pin UK plug and can last up to 40km between charges.
Keyless ignition aids ease of operation and an inbuilt alarm and tracking features boast industry-leading security. Coupled with the Super Soco app, riders can track the bike in real time and monitor the state of charge from a mobile device.
With unrivalled build quality, the Super Soco CU mini offers a robust and beautifully packaged statement for the urban commuter. With design cues taken directly from Super Soco’s CUx model, the CU mini is a statement machine.
It is priced £1,699 (inclusive of VAT and a £150 discount via the UK Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Funding grant), meaning it costs less to purchase than many of the best-selling e-bikes in the UK.

Sunra UK to maintain 2021 prices despite government U-turn

Sunra UK has today confirmed its intention to maintain its 2021 pricing structure until at least March 1st, 2022, despite the government’s announcement this week to significantly reduce the motorcycle plug-in grant with immediate effect.

Following the announcement, that impacts 50 and 125cc equivalent machines heavily, Sunra UK remains committed to providing its customers with a low-cost zero-emission solution to help reduce congestion in our already overcrowded cities.

Logan Black of Sunra UK commented, “Naturally we are very disappointed with the government’s decision to apply this change of grant to electrically powered two-wheelers. This announcement has been compounded by receiving no notice, leaving dealers and consumers confused.  Whilst there is a degree of logic in reducing the grant incentive for high value electric cars, applying the same constraints to entry level EV motorcycles, like those of the Sunra range,  appears to conflict with the grants original mission statement.

“We are however, committed to providing cost-effective, zero emission transport, and so we have decided to freeze recommended prices until at least the new registration change on March 1st 2022, subsidising the difference to make our products as accessible as possible to customers.”

Despite the government’s decision which has seen grants slashed from 20% of the pre-grant purchase price up to a maximum value of £1500 for all electric motorcycles, to 35% (max £150) on L1e Mopeds and 35% (Max £500) on L3e Scooters, the Sunra range remains competitively priced, starting at just £2199.

As ever, the Sunra UK team remains committed to bringing truly effective, two-wheel EV products to customers and will continue to monitor the market and government policies to remain proactive in the market and deliver customers the best possible value.

For more information on the Sunra range of products, please visit www.sunra-uk.com

Zero Motorcycles introduce limited edition SR/F Quickstrike package

Zero Motorcycles, the worldwide leader in electric motorcycles and powertrains, has launched the extremely limited Quickstrike package for its SR/F electric motorcycle. In the rarest release quantities ever seen from the electric motorcycle manufacturer, only 100 of these numbered sets will be released globally. Zero has upped the ante in the body aesthetic stakes by equipping these already head-turning bikes with race-inspired components and parts.

“When Zero launched the transformational SR/F, the entire market shifted,” said Chris Metcalfe, VP of Marketing at Zero Motorcycles. “The significance of a single motorcycle all of sudden validating an entire category of powersports is unheard of, so we wanted to make a custom package that was just as special as the bikes it was made for.”

The inspiration for this special release was born from the performance of the company’s factory-backed effort up the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, one of the most exclusive and dangerous motorsports events in the world.

The face of the Quickstrike SR/F is unmistakable, thanks to the Oya carbon fibre front mudguard and black aluminium fly screen, which are complemented by smoked lense LED indicators front and rear. Completing the look is an Oya carbon rear fender, along with Barracuda mirrors and lever guards. The Italian company also provides its aluminium swingarm spools, allowing easy use of a rear paddock stand. UK buyers will also receive a special Quickstrike bike cover.

The retail price of the Quickstrike package is £999. They are available for order at Zero Motorcycles’ 18-strong UK dealer network.
