Two new Ducati models derived from the successful Fight Formula

Streetfighter V2 and Streetfighter V4 SP: two new Ducati models derived from the successful “Fight Formula”

Ducati expands the Streetfighter family with the introduction of two new models: the bold and essential Streetfighter V2 and the top-of-the-range Streetfighter V4 SP. All the in-depth information on the two bikes have been revealed during the fourth episode of the Ducati World Première web series.

The new Streetfighter V2 is a sports naked with a one-of-a-kind character. It accommodates the needs of those riders who are looking for a bike capable of combining the sporting Panigale V2’s DNA with both the attitude and style of the admired Streetfighter. The result is an intuitive and easy-to-handle vehicle, with the right dose of power to ensure feisty performance and maximum riding fun.

It is noteworthy that this project is the precious fruit of the reinterpretation of Ducati’s successful “Fight Formula”, this time applied to the Panigale V2, stripped of the fairings and equipped with high and wide handlebars. The dry weight of this vehicle is 178 kg and the engine is the 955 cc and 153 hp Superquadro controlled by the latest-generation electronic package.

Streetfighter V4 SP

The new Streetfighter V2 is essential and characterized by a truly sharp design, which embraces the classic stylistic elements of the Streetfighter V4, starting with the distinctive headlight, which recalls the V-shaped DRL typical of Ducati sports bikes and is inspired by the famous grin of the Joker.

The design concept behind this new model is built around the mechanics inherited from the Panigale V2, with the Superquadro engine as a bearing element.

Ergonomics has major rider-centric features and is focused on road use with the added values of sportiness and comfort. The high and wide aluminum handlebars replace the handlebar risers of the Panigale V2. The saddle now is wider and has new padding that contributes to make this bike even more comfortable. In addition, the footpegs have been repositioned to increase the amount of room. All these improvements allow the biker great control in sporty riding and facilitate everyday use at the same time.

The engine of the Streetfighter V2 is the 955 cc Euro 5-compliant Superquadro, capable of delivering a maximum power of 153 hp at 10,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 101.4 Nm at 9,000 rpm. This engine results not only usable and enjoyable on the road but also effective and excellent on the track, where can be easily managed. Compared to the Panigale V2, the Streetfighter V2 project has a shorter final ratio (15/45 vs 15/43) which guarantees greater torque to the wheel at road speeds while giving better engine responsiveness when re-opening the throttle.

Streetfighter V2

While developing this new model, Ducati engineers focused their attention on the chassis set-up. As a matter of fact, the Superquadro engine is used as a bearing element connecting the compact front structure, consisting of a monocoque frame in die-cast aluminum fixed to the engine head. The single-sided swingarm, which is also connected to the engine, is 16 mm longer compared to that of the Panigale V2, a winning point which contributes to ensure the stability of the whole bike.

To this platform are added the 43 mm Showa BPF front fork and the Sachs shock absorber, featuring dedicated calibration to make the bike more comfortable on the road as well as easily adjustable for a whole new dimension of fun on the racetrack.

The Streetfighter V2 is equipped with 5-spoke wheels and the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres: 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 180/60 ZR17 at the rear, which provide a super fast response to the rider’s needs together with an extra cornering feeling. Except for the adoption of brake pads characterised by a less aggressive bite, more suitable for road use, the whole braking system is faithfully taken from the Panigale V2 and features Brembo M4-32 monobloc radial calipers with 320 mm diameter discs.

Also the comprehensive and modern electronic compartment fitting the Streetfighter V2 is inherited from the Panigale V2. The 6-axis IMU inertial platform manages all the electronic controls of the bike and gives the position of the bike in space in real time, sending the information to the control units that manage the controls. The electronic package includes: ABS Cornering EVO with “slide by brake” functionality, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO, Ducati Quick Shift up/down (DQS) EVO 2, Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO.

Streetfighter V4 SP

The Streetfighter V2 features three different Riding Modes (Sport, Road, Wet) with dedicated control settings. The electronic equipment can be enhanced by the accessories contained in the Ducati Performance catalogue: Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA + GPS) and Ducati Multimedia System.

The bike is equipped with full-LED headlights with front DRL and a 4.3” full-TFT dashboard characterised by an intuitive interface that recalls the Streetfighter V4 family-feeling.

The Streetfighter V2 will be available at Ducati dealerships starting from December 2021 in the Ducati Red colour with black rims.

The Ducati Performance catalogue features numerous accessories designed to enhance look, performance and style of the new Streetfighter V2. Among these, the wings stand out, designed by Ducati to obtain even higher performance in track use.

For 2022 Ducati introduces also top-of-the-range Streetfighter V4 SP model, offered in a numbered version and marked with the well-known “SP” (which stands for Sport Production) abbreviation. The new Streetfighter V4 SP is the most adrenaline-pumping naked to ever roll its wheels off the production line in Borgo Panigale . This thanks to a special technical equipment that perfectly combines the “Fight Formula” with the “SP” specifications, further improving the power-to-weight ratio of the Streetfighter V4 S, which was already at the top of its category, and making the bike even more effective on the track.

Streetfighter V4 SP

The Streetfighter V4 SP comes with a dedicated livery, premium equipment derived from the Superleggera V4, as well as with a restrained weight: 196 kg in running order (3 kg less compared to the Streetfighter V4 S).

The essential and captivating “Winter Test” livery  has been conceived by the Ducati Centro Stile taking inspiration from the Ducati Corse motorcycles ridden in MotoGP and SBK Championships pre-season tests. The Matt Black of the fairings combined with the Matt Carbon finish of rims and wings superbly contrasts with the bright Red accents and the sparkling brushed aluminum tank. The new born from Borgo Panigale is also enriched with some beautiful details, such as the progressive number printed on the handlebar and the Italian flag colour scheme on the carbon wings.

The Streetfighter V4 SP is equipped with 5 split-spoke carbon rims, 1.4 kg lighter than the forged aluminum ones fitted as standard on the Streetfighter V4 S and capable of reducing the inertia by 26% at the front and 46% at the rear, making the bike significantly more agile and lighter when changing direction. The exclusive Brembo Stylema R® front brake calipers  guarantee uncommon braking power, as well as stunning performance even during extended use on track*.

The new bike is equipped with the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 with the event-based system that can vary the damping according to the rider’s riding style, and together with biplane wings they increase confidence and ensure the best performance in sporty use.

The beating heart is the 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale with 208 hp capable of delivering a torque of 123 Nm at 9,500 rpm (Euro 5-compliant). On the Streetfighter V4 SP the Desmosedici Stradale is fitted with the STM-EVO SBK dry clutch, which guarantees a better anti-hopping function, even in the most aggressive downshifts, and greater fluidity during all “off-throttle” stages, a crucial aspect to be truly effective on the track when pushing to the limit.

The equipment of this unique bike is enriched by the adjustable aluminum and CNC machined footpegs, the carbon front mudguard, the lithium-ion battery and a range of accessories suitable for the “track days”, such as the open carbon clutch cover** and the caps for removing the license plate holder**.

Thanks to its technical equipment, the Streetfighter V4 SP is the ideal companion for the amateur who wants to rule the track riding a naked bike and get an instant response. Braking capacity results in fact out of the ordinary, the bike is easier to lay into the corner and gets to the apex faster, not to mention the great stability at high speeds.

The Streetfighter V4 SP will be available in single-seat configuration in the “Winter Test” livery. The bike will be in Ducati dealerships starting at January 2022.

The dynamic videos of the new Ducati Streetfighter V2  and the Streetfighter V4 SP are available on the Ducati YouTube channel.

Yamaha Motor’s SpinForged Wheels

An aluminium “bartender” whose work led to lighter weight
Developed for the all-new 2021 MT-09 motorcycle, Yamaha’s SpinForged Wheels established a new and innovative way to reduce weight through the flow forming process they are manufactured with. One of the key drivers that led to the successful application of this method with a mass-production motorcycle for the first time in the world was the development of a special aluminium alloy tailored specifically for flow forming by Yamaha’s in-house materials research departments. In this issue, we introduce the aluminium specialist at Yamaha who played a central role in the development process for creating these new lightweight wheels and some of the challenges she faced.

Harnessing the talent of an aluminium research specialist
“Just changing a few conditions can completely alter how aluminium reacts, or its ‘personality’ so to speak,” says Kahori Oshima of Yamaha Motor’s Materials Division. She speaks of the metal as if gleefully introducing a friend or close acquaintance. “It can be really sensitive sometimes, often giving us zero margin for adjustments.” Despite this “personality”, aluminium is an essential material used to create our motorcycles, outboard motors and various other Yamaha products.

Since joining the company, Oshima has worked as a materials researcher specialising in aluminium and her work and findings have won her praise and trust from Yamaha’s development and manufacturing arms. “She’s like a bartender for aluminium and her skills at making these ‘cocktails’ are something Yamaha is very proud of,” proclaims her superior.

Further, while the material itself may be spoken of as simply “aluminium”, what is required of the material can greatly differ depending on the product in question, where a part is to be used, and the machining method called for. “Yamaha has a massive collection of aluminium ‘recipes’ created by our predecessors and this is one of our strengths,” continues Oshima. “We have an ethos here of aluminium being an area of manufacturing that we must never be outclassed in, and I think what lies behind that is the fact that Yamaha has long done casting all on our own. That confidence and pride pushes us.“

Working with aluminium entails carefully controlling the temperature of the red-hot molten metal, mixing the secret blend of additional elements in, and then heat-treating the formed piece to finish it. Oshima’s task as a researcher is to call on her academic knowledge as well as apply new ideas to find the right balance of stiffness and flex while pursuing not only excellent overall strength and toughness but also beauty.

Innovations born on the factory floor
The new aluminium wheels fitted to the latest MT-09 are machined using flow forming and are a standout manifestation of Oshima’s research.

In developing this model, Yamaha embarked on a new and ambitious challenge of extreme weight reduction, driven by the idea that if you can somehow augment the base characteristics of the aluminium, it will spur new innovations to come from the factory floor itself. The engineering and manufacturing departments both threw themselves into the project and successfully created a special aluminium alloy and heat treatment process even their predecessors had yet to concoct. This combination enabled the company to offer the first mass-produced flow-formed motorcycle wheels. Naming them Yamaha SpinForged Wheels, each boasts rims just 2 mm thick (compared to 3.5 mm with the outgoing model) and the front and rear wheels together are some 0.7 kg lighter. Weight reduction is among the most challenging tasks in the industry and such a success makes these wheels worthy of being hailed as innovative.

“What we struggled with the most was having no metrics to go on. Without them for evaluation, we can’t figure out where we need to set our target, so it was certainly difficult to develop a material and build an appropriate method of evaluation at the same time,” confesses Oshima. However, the struggle and hard work made the achievement that much more rewarding and she has immense pride in these wheels.

“For example, if it’s strength alone, aluminium can’t beat iron. But on the other hand, aluminium has advantages like its lightness, corrosion resistance, high machinability and its beauty. Even if our Monozukuri changes in the future, I’m certain aluminium will remain a material of choice. I believe my role as a materials researcher is to extract and enhance that potential.”

Yamaha Motor’s casting journey
Our roots in casting technology lie in the techniques used to cast piano frames at Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. (today’s Yamaha Corporation). Those techniques were adapted and applied towards creating the engine and parts for the first Yamaha motorcycle in 1955, the YA-1. Since then, Yamaha has continued to cast a plethora of parts not only for motorcycle engines but also for chassis, marine products, car engines and more – all in-house. The capability to cast both large and small parts and components in-house has made us a rarity among the world’s motorcycle manufacturers.

Producing the wheels for our motorcycles is a good example of this capability. In addition to vacuum die-casting aluminium wheels, Yamaha succeeded in casting magnesium wheels for mass production with the YZF-R1 in 2015, something once thought unfeasible for a high-volume product. The flow forming process for creating Yamaha SpinForged Wheels was also already often employed when producing wheels for cars, but motorcycle wheels require an appealing design on both sides, thus adapting flow forming for our industry presented high hurdles. To clear them, Yamaha carefully selected an aluminium variant to work with, conducted repeated experimentation of different alloy combinations in search of the right strength and lasting toughness, and devised the ideal heat treatment method to match. The Yamaha SpinForged Wheel was the result of this work and more.

Yamaha’s factories have given birth to numerous new technologies in the casting field, from our controlled fill (CF) aluminium die-casting technology capable of mass-producing large but thin parts to our all-aluminium DiASil Cylinder, a world first. These achievements underpin the deep and long-held pride the craftsmen at Yamaha’s worksites hold, believing the company’s aluminium casting expertise to be one of its greatest strengths and a field in which it must always be a leader.

Touratech luggage plate XL for Yamaha Ténéré 700

The luggage plate XL for the Yamaha T7 offers solo travellers the perfect solution for safely stowing even extra-large rack packs. The extremely robust aluminium plate takes over the pillion seat and luggage rack area.

It’s not only veteran travellers who know that luggage stowed on a motorcycle should be as close to the centre of gravity as possible. It therefore makes no sense for solo travellers to fix their luggage roll right at the back on a rack. Experienced riders strap their rolls to the pillion seat.

But the fastening options in this position are often limited, and the bench foam does not provide an ideal base either. For the Lonesome Rider on a Yamaha Ténéré 700, Touratech now has the perfect solution in the form of the luggage plate XL with which you can lash even the largest luggage rolls securely, with a low centre of gravity.

The luggage plate XL not only replaces the pillion seat, it provides a flat surface, reaching over the mudguard – where the luggage rack normally sits. The luggage plate XL is definitely not lacking in robustness. An aluminium adapter plate with stainless steel hooks snaps exactly into the original locking mechanism of the pillion seat. The device is locked with the standard lock, operated with the ignition key. In addition, rubber buffers ensure a play-free fit.

The actual luggage plate is made of black anodised aluminium with a sturdy thickness of four millimetres. Generous material recesses keep the weight within practical limits. The straight lines, forming an exact extension of the surface of the rider’s seat, prevent the creation of an edge so that coccyx injuries, for example during rough off-road use, are excluded.

To enable secure lashing to meet any terrain, the luggage plate XL has generously dimensioned strap eyelets. Rack packs can be attached either classically crosswise to the direction of travel or lengthwise.

The grips at the rear of the frame remain fully accessible, and there is nothing to prevent the simultaneous use of a ZEGA aluminium pannier system.

Luggage plate XL for Yamaha Ténéré 700 benefits
• Easy exchange with pillion seat
• Lock with ignition key
• Four millimetre thick aluminium
• Huge storage area
• Generous strap eyelets
• No risk of injury
• Can be used together with case system

KTM’s LC8 continues to drive the next generation

The never-ending tap of torque: KTM’s LC8 continues to drive the next generation

KTM’s versatile and peerless LC8 engine platform is a technical marvel. The V-twin powerplant remains the sole motor of its type on the motorcycle market to equip Naked Bikes, Sport Tourers, and Travel machines. Entering the third decade of the century, the LC8 still provides the best torque in the naked bike segment, awesome low to mid-range punch, and unrivalled fuel efficiency. The LC8 instils that distinctive KTM character through power delivery that both exhilarates and reassures riders.

Few people knew that KTM were throttling something special on the dyno back in the factory’s R&D department towards the end of the last century. In 2003 they finally took away the covers and unveiled the very first KTM 950 ADVENTURE with the growling V-twin LC8 as the vibrant force at its center.

Two years on, mass production of the distinctive KTM 990 SUPER DUKE cemented the LC8’s stature and since then it has been mined, refined, improved, and re-invented. It initially provided the rasping performance for the KTM RC8 and then the expansive output needed for the superlative KTM SUPER ADVENTUREs and the gut-wrenching torque and fun of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKEs. A bike labelled THE BEAST simply must have rhythm and thunder in its soul.

The LC8 is perhaps best known for its 1301cc 75-degree V-twin inside the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, where luckily advances with electronics mean that cornering motorcycle traction control (Cornering MTC) and anti-wheelie can help tame some of the 140 Nm of torque. The hype is not only about the LC8’s current 180 hp and eye-watering top speed. It’s about the reams of bottom-end grunt that gives each KTM STREET and ADVENTURE model such a strong identity. The LC8 allows KTMs of a certain breed to be completely READY TO RACE but the practicality – and synergy with KTM’s latest generations of ride modes and aids – permit a range of character: from docile dependability to long-range reliability thanks to 15,000 km service intervals. The LC8 can breathe fire on the track or pull anyone up the side of a mountain, scaling all manner of obstacles on the way.

2021 saw a significant chapter in the evolution of the LC8 as the engine was converted to meet Euro5 emissions regulations. KTM engineers were fully convinced by the potential of the technology and their own R&D skill to re-invent the LC8 for a fresh era and to maintain the unique READY TO RACE brutality. The development came through dedicated work with valve and exhaust system efficiency as the LC8 shape-shifted once more. To also shed over 1.5 kg of weight at the same time further enforced the engine’s position as one of the lightest and fiercest motors in any motorcycle dealership. The newest form of the LC8’s architecture included thinner engine cases, new pistons for even better longevity, a new oil line, twin spark ignition and titanium inlet values, new air intakes and more, all helping to trim kilos and retain key power figures.

The result? Naked bike riders can profit from the improved handling, stability, and output, while also knowing a small twist of the throttle would both drop jaws and open minds. Sports Tourers and Adventurers have the same thrilling access to power, performance, and weight, as well as the reassurance that the bike would be able to take them wherever and whenever without qualm.

Versatility was also paramount. In recent long-term tests conducted by the factory, with almost double service intervals accumulated – touching 30,000km – the LC8 of a KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S spent nearly 40 per cent of this period running at under 3,500 rpm. This means that the LC8’s torque and efficiency in the low rev range was essential for nearly half of the total distance covered. The total usability and generosity of the LC8 was also highlighted by the fact that just 1 per cent of the test distance was spent above 6,500 rpm. KTM therefore remain steadfast in their conviction of the V-twin architecture and its benefits. No matter the road, pass, or trail, whatever the conditions, whatever the demands, the LC8 is primed for the challenge.

Looking ahead, and to future incarnations of the KTM SUPER DUKEs and SUPER ADVENTUREs, the LC8 will be the envy of everyone on the tarmac or the trail for a long while to come.

Adriaan Sinke, Head of Motorcycle Product Management: “As we come up to almost twenty years of the LC8 we felt it’s important to highlight how important and just how impressive this piece of engineering has been for both our R&D and of course some of the flagship bikes in our portfolio. Our goal was to have one of the lightest but most powerful V-twins on the market and the fact that we’ve been able to turn to the LC8’s basic outline again and again, flip it around and still push it to new limits is testament to its brilliance. Riders are mostly using all that amazing low-end torque that the LC8 generates: that’s another strong asset and such a mark of KTM’s DNA. We’re looking forward to bringing riders and KTM petrolheads many more visions of how we can use the LC8 in the years ahead.”

Now move as fast as the LC8 and discover other KTM technical innovations by revving your way right HERE.

The original Thruxton played a major part in the birth of motorcycle motorsport, as far back as the late 1950’s when the racing Bonneville first took victory at the legendary Thruxton 500 race series, from which it took its name, courtesy of British racing legend, Mike Hailwood. And from then onwards, the Thruxton was a dominating force – race winner and record breaker – with years of success spanning the 1960s.

By 1969, the Thruxton had won the Isle of Man TT, with Malcolm Uphill cracking the 100mph production lap for the very first time. And on the road, thanks to its twin-powered performance, it had also become the bike of choice, inspiring a generation of teenage racers – a now-iconic subculture centred around British café racer motorcycles and Rock n’ Roll music – the “Ton Up Boys”.

Driven by the common goal of doing “the ton” – riding 100mph – the café racers of the day would modify their motorcycles to maximise speed and handling by stripping them down to the bare minimum.

And now, honouring that passion, racing heritage and iconic style, the new Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition celebrates the legendary period in Britain’s motorcycling scene with a unique new classically-inspired scheme, available for one year only.

Unique Ton Up Edition paint scheme and premium custom detailing
Perfectly accentuating the Thruxton’s iconic café racer DNA and timeless silhouette, the new Ton Up Edition design scheme incorporates a stunning and unique Aegean Blue fuel tank with Jet Black knee pad graphics, edged with hand-painted silver coach lining. This is paired with a Fusion White seat cowl and front mudguard, both of which feature unique new Carnival Red “100” graphics. The seat cowl also features additional hand-painted coach lining in black.

The side panels, featuring the new Thruxton RS Ton Up logo, are painted in Jet Black, as are the headlight bowl and rear mudguard. Other premium custom-inspired details include Matt Aluminium Silver fork protectors and blacked-out wheels, engine covers and RSU springs.

The Ton Up Edition also features all the hallmarks of the distinctive Thruxton RS, including unique Monza-style fuel filler cap, twin brushed stainless steel upswept silencers, single bullet seat and black bar-end mirrors.

Riders can also enhance their Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition with the accessory cockpit fairing that now comes in a matching Aegean Blue.

This includes its race-bred fully adjustable Showa 43mm upside down pig piston forks and fully adjustable Öhlins twin rear shocks with piggyback reservoir, offering a great riding feel, comfort and exceptional handling.

High-specification brakes ensure the Thruxton RS delivers outstanding stopping power, with twin 310mm Brembo floating front brake discs with Brembo M50 radial monobloc calipers, and a Nissin two-piston floating caliper on the rear.

Metzler Racetec RR tyres are fitted as standard, offering enhanced grip for sporty road riding as well as track day fun.

The combination of thrilling 1200cc engine, with high-specification dynamic chassis and premium standard equipment, alongside the focused and sporty riding ergonomics with low 810mm seat height, make the Thruxton RS an agile and engaged ride.

Ride-enhancing technology fitted as standard
The Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition is equipped with ABS and switchable traction control as standard, as well as three riding modes – Road, Rain and Sport. These adjust throttle map and traction control settings to better suit the riding conditions or rider preference. This is enabled via the ride-by-wire technology, which delivers enhanced throttle response and better control.

Additional ride-enhancing technology includes the torque-assist clutch, reducing rider fatigue, as well as the immobiliser and under-seat USB charging socket.

For a better visibility on the road, the bike is equipped with an LED DRL incorporated into the headlight (market specific).

And, as with all Triumphs, the attention to detail is of an exceptional standard, including for example, the hidden folding pillion footrest which, when folded, seamlessly blend into the clean lines of the Rocket’s design.

Rocket 3 R

Unparalleled performance
Renowned for being the largest production motorcycle engine on the planet, the Rocket 3 R and GT deliver world-leading performance from low down in the rev range. And it’s that incredible class-defining performance that has given the new 221 Special Editions their name.

The 2,458cc triple engine not only delivers the world’s highest peak torque of 221Nm at 4,000rpm, but peak power is also a breath-taking 167PS at 6,000rpm. The Rocket 3 R and GT are effortlessly thrilling to ride, beautifully smooth and responsive, for all day, any gear riding.

The engine has been designed to harmoniously blend with the Rocket’s magnificent style and features a distinctive hydroformed three-header exhaust run, carefully designed to deliver the incredibly rich triple engine roar that is guaranteed to turn heads.

The Rocket 3 R and GT also feature a high-performance six-speed helical-cut gearbox and a torque-assist hydraulic clutch for super-slick operation and an incredibly refined ride.

Phenomenal handling
The Rocket 3 R and GT 221 Editions benefit from all of the latest generation Rocket’s incredible ride and high level of standard specification. This includes the superb suspension package: a fully adjustable Showa monoshock rear suspension unit with piggy-back reservoir and 47mm upside down Showa cartridge front forks, adjustable for compression and rebound damping.

The incredible handling of this special edition Rocket 3 is also ensured thanks to its top specification Brembo Stylema® four-piston radial monobloc front brakes with twin 320mm floating discs. These cutting edge calipers are a lightweight and compact design, with optimised air flow for efficient cooling.

Further highlighting the incredible specification of this bike, on the rear the Rocket 3 mounts a Brembo M4.32 four-piston monobloc caliper and 300mm disc, a setup more commonly found at the front end of a motorcycle.

Rocket 3 GT

Innovative design is key to the Rocket’s phenomenal handling and some of the best examples of this can be found in the beautifully engineered single-sided cast aluminium swingarm, the mass optimised aluminium frame, the hidden folding pillion pegs, and the internally wired roadster style handlebars on the R model, or the touring handlebars on the GT model.

The wheels are lightweight, cast aluminium, with an intricate 20-spoke design and come fitted with high-specification Avon Cobra Chrome tyres. These have been developed especially for the Rocket 3 and deliver exceptional grip and high mileage durability.

With so much power available, the ergonomics have been carefully designed to optimise comfort and control. The rider’s seat has been sculpted to provide perfect support, while the adjustable foot controls give with two vertical position settings on the R model, and three horizontal position settings on the GT model.  Seat height is an accessible low 773mm on the R model, and 750mm on the GT model, and the rider can also change the set-up from twin seat to single with an accessory infill pad.

Thanks to the 18-litre fuel tank, the Rocket 3 R and GT 221 Editions ensure a great long distance touring range.

Ride-enhancing technology
The Rocket 3 R 221 Edition and the Rocket 3 GT 221 Edition benefit from all of the standard specification of the base models including optimised cornering ABS and optimised cornering traction control. These are controlled by a sophisticated Inertial Measurement Unit which measures the roll, pitch, yaw and acceleration rates of the bike in order to calculate the lean angle and optimise braking and traction control accordingly.

The instruments are full-colour TFTs, which are angle-adjustable and have two information layout themes that can be personalised. The My Triumph connectivity system software is already installed, enabled, set-up and ready to be used with the accessory-fit Bluetooth module. This enables GoPro interaction, turn-by-turn navigation and phone and music operation via the switch cubes, all displayed on the TFT screen.

Rocket 3 R

Four riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport and Rider-configurable – adjust the throttle response and traction control settings to suit rider preference and riding conditions. The modes can be easily changed while on the move via the illuminated switch cubes.

For low energy consumption, durability and great visibility on the road, the Rocket 3 R and GT feature all-LED lighting, including the twin LED headlights, beautifully shaped tail light, indicators and number plate light. The headlights also incorporate Triumph’s signature shaped LED Daytime Running Lights, where market legislation allows, increasing rider visibility to other road users.

As standard both Rocket 221 Editions come equipped with hill hold control, cruise control, keyless ignition and keyless steering lock, and an under-seat USB charging socket. Plus, on the GT model, heated grips are also fitted as standard

Rocket 3 GT

Triumph Bonneville T120 Review

Last month I tested the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS and now for a slight change of pace I am looking at my first modern classic – the Triumph Bonneville T120.

Despite the constant bombardment of flashy supersport & naked motorbikes in the market, classic motorbikes are still loved by enthusiasts around the world. Unfortunately, there are a handful of new classic two-wheelers being sold by the manufacturers these days, so the choices are quite limited. Nevertheless, you can always get your hands on the classic British icon, the Triumph Bonneville T120. The Bonneville has a 60-year long legacy that has been refined & modernized over time to make it appealing for the masses. The 2021 model carries various upgrades & versions that are sure to entice classic moto lovers.

To get an in-depth look at the revamped Bonneville, I decided to get a first-hand look at it and feel how is it different. In all fairness, giving a makeover to a classic icon is a no mean feat and it requires careful calibrations on all facets so that the original character is preserved. Thankfully, Triumph has hit the nail right on the head as the latest iteration of the Bonneville T120 feels contemporary yet vintage enough to satisfy its core customer base. Everything from the round indicators & headlamp to the classic peashooter silencer makes the new T120 as identical to its first generation as it can ever get.

Now that the visual aspects have been covered, it is high time that I should shed some light on the deeper character traits of the Bonneville T120. The overall finishing is impeccable, just as we have come to expect from the entire lineup of Triumph motorbikes. The bulging parallel-twin engine and a rather chunky gearbox perfectly complement the classic appeal of the original Bonneville that had always remained a favorite amongst enthusiasts.

While the new Bonneville does not pack as much old-school technology under its belt as its older versions, it certainly has enough to offer to any retro fan out there. The 1200cc parallel-twin engine with its 79 hp and 105 Nm of torque may sound a bit underwhelming, but you have to experience the bike for yourself to discover its true nature. The 10.0:1 compression ratio also doesn’t lend a helping hand to the power output figures but keep in mind that all the torque is readily available in the lower band which is just great for the purpose the motorbike is made for. The engine obviously isn’t fed by a carburetor instead it utilizes a multipoint EFI system that helps in maximizing the efficiency and reducing the emissions level. Thanks to the use of various measures to curb carbon emissions, the new Bonneville T120 is Euro-5 compliant and despite that, the performance has remained untethered.

The flat lowered down café racer-style seat provides a comfortable upright posture that is well suited for long rides (and older bones lol). The raised handlebar houses several riding aides on the grips that also include cruise control helping the rider effortlessly cruise through the motorways without having to constantly keep the hands on the throttle. The 6-speed torque-assisted gearbox is also quite helpful and engaging that adds to the pleasure of riding, but perhaps the most exciting part for me was the exhaust note that superbly mimics the sound of old-school classics. One scratches his head to figure out how Triumph managed to fine-tune the exhaust keeping in mind that the technology used underneath the skin is completely different from the one used decades ago.

The overall riding experience is quite relaxing which is partly thanks to the weight that has been shed off the various parts of the bike. The aluminum spoke wheels, a lighter crankshaft, and the absence of a center stand all make a noticeable difference, though the absence of the latter would be problematic for many. Stopping the front aluminum spoke wheels are dual-piston Brembo brakes that in conjunction with the ABS does a good job at bringing the 1200cc motorbike to a halt. In addition to the ABS, there are two riding modes and a revamped instrument cluster that portrays the perfect blend of contemporary & retro looks.

Unfortunately, some essential options such as the center stand & grab handle have been made an optional extra which sounds like a cost-cutting strategy. Nonetheless, a comprehensive suite of upgrades allows it to remain competitive and attractive in this day & age. The availability of numerous trims provides the buyer with wider choices that together with a service interval of 10,000 miles and a sticker price of £11,000 make the 2021 T120 a good option in the classics niche.

Summary: All in all, the new Triumph Bonneville T120 is a great classic motorbike that has managed to remain true to its roots to this date.

I think I can now officially agree that I am getting on a bit now my body much preferred the Triumph Bonneville T120 over the beast that was the Speed Triple 1200 RS

In my younger days I was always a sports bike rider and was never a fan of classic bikes they were deemed unreliable etc but saying that my 916 used to break down all the time. Maybe it’s a age thing I started appreciating them much more and with the Triumph modern classics you have the looks but backed up with modern reliability and technology.

KTM’S ‘Naked November’ Throws Off The Covers On Thrilling New Models

Setting the benchmark when it comes to introducing ground-breaking technology across its product portfolio, KTM has been setting and breaking records in both the sales front and in its rapid rate of new model releases. With a clear focus on some key innovative technological features, KTM’s Naked November will be highlighted by the introduction of a selection of thrilling new motorcycles.

KTM never rests on its laurels and the goal is to make riding safer, faster. For this KTM is continuously developing groundbreaking technology and rider aids, but without disconnecting the riders from their machine. KTM acknowledges that each rider is different and that’s why each KTM machine offers a multitude of personalisation and customisation options.

The first sensations of twisting a KTM throttle – those first moments when it’s impossible to suppress that massive grin – must be matched with the technology and innovation. The goal is to ensure that the thrill of riding a KTM is linked with all-around rider reward. To this end, KTM bikes ‘stretch the envelope’ to breaking point when it comes to the latest software and hardware on the motorcycle market.

For almost 20 years the ferocious and versatile KTM LC8 motor has been propelling the most iconic KTM machines. From the Dakar Rally-winning machines of the early 2000s to the segment-leading Travel and Naked models in KTM’s updated line-up, the iconic V-Twin engine has left a big mark in the motorcycle industry. The powerhouse engine continues to thrive and will now be at the heart of a selection of brand-new creations and fresh incarnations of THE BEAST.

To help keep this brute power to the ground in all conditions, KTM has been working on evolving its technology. This allows even the average rider to tame THE BEAST. One of the recent technological developments is the second generation of WP APEX Semi-Active suspension: the introduction of the new SAT allows for more flexibility while riding. Riders are able to tailor their setup, whether it being for the long unbeaten road that lies ahead or thrashing out lap times on the race track.

To learn more about the above technology and all the revolutionary features that KTM has to offer, stay tuned for the release of the KTM Tech Guide; a comprehensive and educational platform that will be launched on ktm.com on November 9. Leading the charge within the KTM Tech Guide will be the legendary LC8, the driving force behind so many flagship models at KTM.

The release will be followed with an in-depth look at what makes the second generation of WP APEX Semi-Active suspension a must-have on November 11.

At KTM we don’t like to tease, but with ‘Naked November’ around the corner we wanted to get your engines revving, with new models lining up behind closed doors, which are about to burst wide open. When?

Coming on November 16:
Two incarnations of THE BEAST are about to take centre stage, which all have the attributes of the complete Naked bike. Popular demand, sophistication and better performance means we’re ready to let something more out of the cage.

Arriving on November 23:
All powerful and practical and KTM-style; for some this 2022 model will be the definition of how KTM blurs the segments of the motorcycle industry.

Keep that helmet in your hands, your new ride is about to be unleashed!

All-new XSR900: Legend Reborn

Yamaha’s ultimate Faster Son

Yamaha’s XSR Sport Heritage range is like no other. Each model pays tribute to some of the most iconic motorcycles and designs from the company’s rich history, while at the same time offering performance minded riders the very latest in terms of engine and chassis technology.

This special combination in which a genuine respect for the past is seamlessly bonded with high performance and timeless beauty is what drives Yamaha’s Faster Sons philosophy. It resonates with those people that want to experience great riding, but also want to look stunning while doing just that. Offering a select group of informed riders the freedom to underline their individuality, every XSR model is the ideal blank canvas that allows for easy customisation and personalisation.

The freedom and creativity that XSR models offer can be seen in the many unique and beautiful Yard Built projects that have come out of the growing custom scene over the last 7 years. Not only inspiring fellow riders, but also greatly inspiring Yamaha in terms of design.

After the presentation of the first XSR900 in 2016 the Sports Heritage segment has grown and matured, and has established itself as a significant segment in the European market. Now, it is time to re-affirm the XSR900’s position as the ultimate Faster Son – a motorcycle that encapsulates the pioneering Spirit of Yamaha, while offering the very latest in terms of unique design, thrilling riding character and exclusive technology.

Blending racing heritage with advanced technology
The new generation Deltabox-style frame is a perfect example of how the XSR900 blends Yamaha heritage design with the latest road sports technology like nothing else.

Turn the clock back 40 years to the 1980s and the Deltabox frame was a radical new technology that changed the racing world forever. Already famous for its innovative technology that had established the company as one of the most successful names in road racing, Yamaha was the first manufacturer to move away from the conventional tubular frame and develop what was then a controversial and daring design. With many World Championship wins to its credit, the Deltabox frame design proved its superiority beyond doubt.

In the 1980s the Deltabox frame design was introduced on many Yamaha road models, and the concept has been refined and improved ever since. This is just one example of the Faster Sons philosophy – respecting the origin, learning from the past and then developing a better product for the modern day rider.

XSR900: Embodying the true spirit of Yamaha
Technologically and aesthetically inspired by the 1980s – a glorious and significant period in Yamaha’s history – the XSR900 is unlike many other neo-retro models in that it is not merely a revival of an ancestor or simply vintage-inspired. With the legendary Deltabox chassis design at the very heart of the bike, the XSR900 embodies the real spirit of Yamaha, giving physical form to the history, ideals and reputation that the company has achieved.

Key features such as the muscular fuel tank and vented body panels provide a purposeful design with an absence of any superfluous elements, which can trace their heritage back to the original racers and sport bikes that changed the motorcycle world four decades ago.

A design that prioritises the rider
These designs not only speak to Yamaha’s origins but are also part of the heritage that the company has an obligation to pass on. It is not about prioritising design or performance – it is prioritising the rider. With the XSR900, the Deltabox-style frame’s head pipe position is lowered and the swingarm is lengthened to improve the straight-line stability – while the overall stiffness of the top triple clamp, swingarm pivot fastening bolts and engine mounts are optimised. A pure roadster platform that will respond to casual-or-more spirited riding.

Together with the historically inspired riding position – sitting almost above the rear wheel – it creates a fun ride that arouses the senses. The torquey feel of the more powerful 889cc CP3 engine and the direct connection with the throttle are part of the bike’s charm. The new tuned exhaust sound underlines the unique and exciting character of this flagship Sport Heritage bike.

By using Yamaha’s latest technologies, the engineers have focused on ensuring that the rider can experience active control of the bike, and that the XSR900 is responding instantly and intuitively to the individual way that every motorcyclist rides the bike.

New Deltabox-style aluminium frame: Lighter, stronger, sharper
A key feature on the new XSR900 is the use of an all-new compact and lightweight aluminium frame that uses the very latest manufacturing processes to make this one of the slimmest, lightest and most compact designs in the class.

Longitudinal, lateral and torsional rigidity are all significantly increased, resulting in better straight line stability together without affecting agility, and the head pipe is located 30 mm lower than the previous model for increased feeling when cornering. This allows the handlebars to be mounted lower to give the XSR900 a more aggressive stance, and combined with other changes to the chassis there is a 14% reduction in inertia around the steering axis compared to the previous model – enabling the rider to corner quickly, accurately and confidently.

The new Deltabox-style frame has been manufactured using Yamaha’s latest Controlled Filling (CF) technology that accurately controls a number of factors including mould vacuum, temperature and injection speed.

This sophisticated Yamaha-exclusive technology makes it possible to produce complex die-cast structures that can be made lighter and stronger than by using conventional casting methods. The frame utilises sections of different thicknesses so that the rigidity level is designed to match the varying loads experienced at any specific area. Wall thickness varies from 1.7 mm at its thinnest to 3.5 mm at its thickest, and this “tuned rigidity” transmits excellent feel and feedback to the rider, giving the XSR900 a sporty and responsive handling character.

Straight line stability is also enhanced by the fitment of a box-section aluminium swingarm that is 55 mm longer than the previous model to give a 1,495 mm wheelbase – and an all-new model-specific subframe is featured. Together with the longer swingarm this new subframe emphasises the XSR900’s 80s influenced styling and low-set silhouette, plus new passenger footrests that fold away close to the subframe reinforcing the clean lines of this high-tech sport heritage bike.

Tuned rigidity: Strength with lightness
It’s not just the frame that benefits from tuned rigidity, Yamaha’s designers have gone to great lengths to ensure that the XSR900 is able to deliver even higher levels of feel and feedback. While the previous model used a swingarm that pivots on the outside of the frame, the new bike uses a swingarm pivot that is held between the outer chassis members – an improved design that is slimmer and more rigid than before.

Race-inspired fuel tank and vented bodywork
The XSR900’s fuel tank is inspired by Yamaha’s 80s-era Grand Prix road racers, and features air intakes at the front that not only help to enhance the engine efficiency, but also transmit the powerful sound of the intake roar to the rider at higher speeds.

The relationship between the sculpted 15-litre fuel tank and humped seat gives a riding position further behind the bike’s mid-point, almost above the rear axle. A layout that contributes towards the bike’s unique riding character and helps to create low stress ergonomics. Much attention was focused on the shapes of the parts that the rider comes into contact with, such as the fuel tank, seat and bar-position. Compact vented sidepanels give the XSR900 a minimalistic look, and the tank’s race style filler cap underlines the bike’s sporting heritage.

High Performance Brakes and Suspension: No compromise technology
High quality components are evident throughout the XSR900, and the new Brembo radial front master cylinder underlines the bike’s cutting edge specification that backs up its very impressive sporting potential. Featuring a piston that moves parallel to the adjustable brake lever, this system gives accurate feedback from the dual 298 mm front discs, and provides an unprecedented amount of stopping power with a high level of controllability. Attention to detail can be seen in the beautifully made forged brake pedal that controls the 245 mm rear disc.

Suspension is first class, and features fully adjustable KYB USD front forks with a gold finish that enhances the bike’s appearance, and the link-type rear suspension features a forward inclined adjustable KYB shock virtually hidden from sight to give the rear a clean and sleek appearance.

Aluminium 10-spoke spinforged wheels: Yamaha’s lightest ever
By manufacturing the new XSR900’s wheels using a Yamaha-exclusive spinforging technology it has been possible to make the front/rear wheel set 700 g lighter than before. This is a significant reduction in unsprung weight that gives more responsive suspension action for increased agility and stability. The lighter wheels decrease the moment of inertia at the rear by 11% to make the new XSR900 feel much more responsive, particularly when cornering and braking.

Round LED headlight: Modern meets retro
An endearing characteristic of the original XSR900, the round headlight, has been continued but takes it to the next level with full LED functionality. As well as providing a strong beam of light with a wide horizontal bean for excellent cornering vision at night, the new LED unit allows the use of a much shorter housing. Brushed aluminium headlight stays reinforce the bike’s strong and mechanical design, underlining its status as Yamaha’s premier sport heritage model.

To emphasise the historic racing image, the XSR900 comes fitted with a “hidden” LED taillight located beneath the seat hump. LED flashers underline the elegant and sporty lines of this high performance bike.

Premium details, high build quality
Quality and attention to detail is obvious from every angle, and it is clear that no corners have been cut and no compromises were made by Yamaha’s designers in their mission to build this next generation Sport Heritage model. For a qualitative, yet race inspired image, the cockpit is enhanced with a machined top triple clamp, drilled fork caps and an aluminium XSR logo. Other features include an embossed aluminium rear underplate, forged foot controls, black brake reservoirs and bar end mirrors showing that this is a motorcycle that is ready to make an impression – and not just with the rider.

New 889cc CP3 EU5 engine: More torque, more power
For 2022 the XSR900 is driven by a more powerful, larger capacity 889cc CP3 engine producing stronger, linear torque for outstanding acceleration. Compared to the previous engine the new unit features a 3 mm longer stroke to give an extra 43cc, and virtually all of the major internal components have been redesigned and lightened to make this one of the strongest performers in its class.

Lighter pistons contribute towards the engine’s lower weight (not including the exhaust) – 300 g less than previously – and these changes give a 4PS increase in power up to 87.5 kW (119 PS) at 10,000 rpm. More significantly the torque produced by this engine – already famous for its strong and linear output – increases significantly to 93.0 Nm (9.5 kgf-m). This represents an increase of 6% in torque, and it is achieved at only 7,000 rpm – a figure that is 1,500 rpm lower than the previous model.

Riders who are already familiar with the effortless acceleration of Yamaha’s legendary CP3 engine – one of Europe’s best selling units – are sure to be more than impressed with the increased performance of the new XSR900. It’s certain to make the Sport Heritage category one of the most exciting destinations for a new breed of rider who appreciates timeless style and wants thrilling performance with up to the minute technology.

Engineered sound quality: Bombard the senses
The original Yamaha CP3 engine is already one of the best sounding powerplants on the street, with its throaty roar available at the twist of the wrist. The quality of sound is something that most riders understand and appreciate. Yamaha’s engineers have spent a great deal of time and effort in their quest to build an exhaust system in tune with the intake – that has the ability to convey and communicate the raw torque and immense excitement associated with the XSR900 engine.

When developing the new exhaust system Yamaha’s project team rode for thousands of kilometres on twisty roads in their search of the perfect. The XSR900’s new exhaust features unequal length headers and dual-sided outlets, and by experimenting with muffler chamber size, the ideal sound was achieved. Together with the 3-duct design with dual air-intakes, the sound for the rider itself was also perfectly orchestrated.

Accelerating from a standstill, the growl emitted by the exhaust surrounds the rider and enhances the thrill experienced when charging hard, and as engine revs build the intake roar takes over from the exhaust to create an intense feeling of excitement that makes this 889cc CP3 engine such a joy to ride.

Lighter feeling A&S clutch: Confident chassis control
To handle the XSR900’s markedly increased torque levels the A&S clutch is uprated with different friction plates, and the cam angle of the clutch is changed from 30 degrees to 33 degrees. These changes reduce the load on the clutch springs, and so although the engine is delivering more torque at lower engine speeds, the clutch actually feels lighter at the lever.

By absorbing back torque the A&S clutch helps to achieve gentler and more stable chassis behaviour during downshifts, giving increased controllability when slowing down.

Optimised gear ratios for an exquisitely balanced performance
To match the XSR900’s increased power and torque output, the 6-speed transmission has been optimised with slightly higher gear ratios – with 1st gear going from 2.666->2.571, and 2nd gear going from 2.000->1.947. These changes are designed to complement the increased moment of inertia of the crankshaft, the revised characteristics of the fuel injection system, and help to provide balanced performance combined with a strong feeling of torque.

Highly sophisticated electronic systems: Ultimate rider control
The XSR900 is equipped with one of the most impressive array of electronic rider control systems ever seen in the Sport Heritage category. Back in 2015 the R1 broke new ground with its cutting edge electronics, and 6 years on this system has been further developed and miniaturised.

6-axis IMU: R-Series technology for extreme sports performance
At the heart of XSR900’s new system is a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that uses two sensors to measure three-axis velocity and three-axis acceleration. This new unit is 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the original 2015 R1 design, and it sends data to the ECU that informing the three rider aids: Lean Sensitive Traction Control System, Slide Control System (SCS) and the front Wheel Lift Control System (LIF).

Lean sensitive Traction Control System: All weather confidence
The degree of intervention of the Traction Control System is calculated by the IMU relative to the degree of lean, and the rider can select one of three intervention modes or even turn the system off completely.

Slide Control System: Ultimate control
The Slide Control System (SCS) was a revelation when R1 owners were amongst the first riders to experience it in action. It is an extremely valuable asset for any sports rider, and gives the highest degree of controllability. When a sideways rear wheel slide is predicted by the IMU the drive power is adjusted in order to maintain traction. As with TCS there are three intervention levels, as well as an off switch.

LIF anti wheelie: MotoGP technology for the real world

LIF is an anti-wheelie system that helps to smooth out machine behaviour when pulling away or accelerating hard, LIF is designed to work in harmony with the other electronic control systems.

Brake Control: Assurance in an emergency
The XSR900’s Brake Control system independently controls and moderates the front and rear brake pressure to prevent accidental wheel lock ups. BC1 is a standard type of ABS mode that activates in upright emergency stopping situations, while BC2 is designed to maintain control if emergency braking is applied when the XSR900 is leaning in mid corner.

Quick Shifter System: Full throttle all the way
The XSR900’s Quick Shifter System (QSS) takes the performance to another level by allowing the rider to do clutchless full throttle upshifts for optimum acceleration, as well as performing clutchless down shifts improving stability and corner entry.

D-Mode: The right power for every occasion
The new XSR900 features four D-Mode engine power modes, compared to three on the previous model. Mode 1 is the most aggressive full-power mode, while modes 2, 3 and 4 deliver progressively softer degrees of response to suit riding conditions.

YCC-T: Yamaha’s wireless twistgrip
While the previous XSR900 was fitted with a Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) the new model takes the technology one step further with the addition of an R1-type Acceleration Position Sensor Grip (APSG). This is a full “ride by wire” system with a sensor in the twist grip that replicates the traditional feeling of the throttle spring, and eliminates the need for any cables.

3.5-inch full-colour TFT display: Modern, clear, precise
The previous model’s circular LCD unit is now replaced with a much higher specification 3.5 inch full colour TFT display with a bar type tachometer that changes colour with rising rpm and also has a configurable display of secondary information. Ride mode selection is easily managed by through the ergonomic handle bar switches.

Cruise Control: It’s good to relax sometimes
Another new feature seen for the first time on the XSR900 is Cruise Control, this easily programmable system makes longer journeys even more enjoyable, and has the added advantage of enabling the rider to observe speed limits without having to constantly look away from the road ahead and check the speedo.

Historic Yamaha Racing influenced colouring
To strengthen the link with the innovation and success from the 80s the new XSR900 is presented in a modern day interpretation of the distinctive colours of GP-winner Christian Sarron. Christian helped underline the success of the Deltabox by delivering great performances throughout the 1980s. These achievements still resonate within Yamaha and inspire the brand to perform better every day. That colour scheme with a curvaceous 15-litre steel fuel tank and seat-hump seamlessly blend the roadster image with racer details. The distinctive gap between the tank and seat, quick release fasteners and hidden passenger foot pegs combine to produce the unique looks of the XSR900.

MV Agusta and Crosby Studios collaborate on installation for Complexcon 2021

Held on 6-7 November in Long Beach, California, the groundbreaking, two-day, immersive convention brings together creatives from around the world to engage in innovative events across the fields of pop culture, art, design, fashion, food, music, sports, and more

MV Agusta is pleased to announce its partnership with renowned architecture and design firm Crosby Studios for the 2021 edition of ComplexCon, the world’s first and most important festival of pop and streetwear culture, held from 6-7 November in Long Beach, California. In collaboration with Crosby Studios founder and principal designer, Harry Nuriev, MV Agusta will present The Garage, a new installation of collectable vehicles and garage essentials.

With The Garage, Nuriev continues his investigation into overlooked, transitory spaces, which the designer considers to be metaphors for “traveling through different layers of space, reality, and consciousness”—a theme explored in much of his work, which often blend material, virtual and augmented realities. For ComplexCon, Nuriev worked with MV Agusta to map his signature gray-and-white checkerboard pattern onto a custom MV Agusta F3 motorcycle and MV Agusta AMO RC electric bicycle, in addition to a ladder, gasoline tank, shelves, and various storage pieces. The collaborative, limited edition merchandise will be available for purchase on an inquiry basis.

Harry Nuriev, Founder, Crosby Studios, commented: “For me, a garage is a symbol of a workshop — a place that births new ideas, and allows creators to escape reality. A garage also brings back a lot of childhood memories, from when I used my family’s garage as a craft workshop. I’m always challenging myself to find different avenues to express my design — this time it’s through motorcycles. I’m really fascinated by the sleek, sexy, shape and design of a motorcycle, and am thrilled to be working with MV Agusta to work with this new medium.”

Timur Sardarov, CEO, MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., commented: “MV Agusta is increasingly popular in the US, and is perceived as a true design icon among the millennials who make up the majority of the ComplexCon crowds. We are constantly exploring new ways of being meaningful and relevant to that very important segment, and ComplexCon offers our brand a perfect opportunity to connect and communicate in a unique way. Harry Nuriev’s work has taken design and function one step further, entering the dimension of art and emotions — a concept that strongly resonates with MV Agusta’s Motorcycle Art spirit. We are thrilled to take part in this year’s event as the centrepiece of Harry Nuriev’s brilliant installation, and couldn’t dream of a better debut and a better partner. We are looking forward to making our mark at ComplexCon 2021.”

ABOUT CROSBY STUDIOS
Crosby Studios was founded in 2014 by artist, architect and designer Harry Nuriev (b. 1984). The New York, Moscow, and Paris-based creative practice spans a broad range of typologies, including innovative commercial spaces, hospitality, designed objects, and fashion and art collaborations, often through the lens of radical design and informed by the aesthetics of contemporary consumer culture. Crosby Studios uses minimalism as a philosophical framework, marrying geometric primaries with crisp logic, creating invigorating and exuberant interiors that serve as vehicles for much broader ideas about how we live and work. After Crosby Studios opened its New York branch in 2017, T: The New York Times Magazine heralded Harry Nuriev as a pioneering voice in global minimalism citing the distinctive influence of Russian craft and architecture on his designs.

In 2017, Nuriev held his first museum solo exhibition at Dallas Contemporary, and has since collaborated with contemporary artist Liam Gillick and architect Rem Koolhaas’s OMA; crafted a limited edition home goods collection and pop-up installation for Opening Ceremony; and collaborated with the French fashion house Balenciaga on The Balenciaga Sofa, a conceptual, sustainable furniture installation designed by the artist for Design Miami/ 2019;  In January of 2021, Nuriev launched Crosby Studios Home, a new home goods and loungewear brand which debuted its first collection within an explorative, virtual showroom apartment powered by gaming software and AR tech. In March, on the heels of the brand’s buzzy debut, the designer unveiled Crosby Studios Store, a mixed-use concept space that combines elements of a living room, café, boutique, gallery, social gathering space, as well as a design studio, functioning as Crosby Studios’ new Moscow design headquarters. This summer, to mark the opening of Crosby Studios’ Paris outpost, Nuriev collaborated with Dover Street Market Paris on Crosby Café, a seasonal café and community space in a 17th century mansion.

The new BMW K 1600 GT, K 1600 GTL, K 1600 B and K 1600 Grand America

The new K 1600 models: Six-cylinder fascination for dynamic and luxurious riding, touring and cruising.

Six-cylinder in-line engines have always belonged to the showcase drives at BMW. Since 2010, BMW Motorrad offers fascinating high-performance and luxurious six-cylinder equipment at the highest level with the K 1600 models. The K 1600 GT represents the particularly agile, dynamic variant of the six-cylinder design, while the K 1600 GTL with its more comfortable ergonomics and standard topcase is more for pleasurable riding.

The K 1600 B is of a completely different breed. It provides characteristic “streamlining” with a low rear section in bagger style. Its motto is “The Spirit of the Open Road”. It represents elegance, power and luxury on two wheels and allows the rider to experience every road, every tour and every moment particularly intensively. Derived from the K 1600 B, the K 1600 Grand America finally combines the superior performance of the six-cylinder in-line engine with exclusive equipment features that make long-distance rides in American highway cruising style an experience that is as comfortable as it is fascinating, both alone or with a partner.

BMW K 1600 Grand America and K 1600 B

Revised six-cylinder in-line engine according to EU-5 regulations with new engine control, knock sensor system and revised emission concept as well as engine drag torque control.
For use in the new K 1600 GT, GTL, B and Grand America, the inspiring six-cylinder engine has been adapted to the current EU-5 regulations. From a technical point of view, the use of the BMS-O engine control, two knock sensors and two additional broadband lambda probes form the centrepiece. In addition to drastically improved emission values, there are also noticeable benefits relating to the power and torque of the six-cylinder engine. The nominal capacity is still 118 kW (160 hp). However, it is now already achieved at a rotational speed of 6 750 rpm and thus 1 000 rpm sooner than was formerly the case. In addition, the technical new features provide an increase of the maximum torque from previously 175 Nm to now 180 Nm at a rotational speed of still 5 250 rpm. Even more superior pulling power and even more powerful acceleration are the noticeable positive effects for the rider.

The engine drag torque control (MSR) is another new component. With it, unstable riding conditions, which can develop in coasting mode or when shifting down gears due to excessive slip at the rear wheel, can be reliably avoided.

BMW K 1600 B

Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” electronic suspension with fully automatic load compensation.
The BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) on the new K 1600 GT, GTL, B and Grand America enables even higher dimensions in terms of riding safety, performance and comfort, because damping is automatically adapted to the riding conditions and manoeuvres, and there is also automatic riding position compensation in all load states.

Highly modern LED light units and new full LED adaptive headlight.
BMW Motorrad has been a pioneer for decades in terms of safety when biking. Accordingly, the new K 1600 GT, GTL, B and Grand America already provide highly modern LED light units as standard. The new full LED headlight with LED lens technology and iconic daytime riding light (depending on the market) illuminates the road with an unrivalled bright, clear light and underlines the prestige claim of the new six-cylinder models. Another standard component of the headlight is the swivelling “adaptive headlight” function. With it, the low-beam LED headlight is turned into the curve according to the heel angle. Curves are thus almost fully illuminated because the light is where the motorbike is moving.

In addition, by swivelling the entire headlight unit (±2°), the vehicle dynamic states (braking, accelerating) are automatically controlled and optimum illumination is ensured at all times. In addition, there are a number of new light functions such as the “welcome light”.

BMW K 1600 Grand America

New, 10.25 inch TFT colour display with integrated map navigation, easy-to-use route planning and comprehensive connectivity as standard.
The new K 1600 GT, GTL, B and Grand America are standard-equipped with a new 10.25 inch TFT colour display with integrated map navigation and connectivity. Due to excellent readability, clear menu navigation and a highly integrated operating concept, they are at the top of their motorbike segment. The new 10.25 inch colour display allows a navigation map to be displayed on the instrument cluster, meaning an additional display is not required.

Audio system 2.0 – a new digital sound dimension as standard or as optional equipment ex works.
With audio system 2.0, the new K 1600 GTL and Grand America already provide an even more intensive sound experience as standard. The audio system is available as optional equipment ex works for the K 1600 GT and K 1600 B.

Superior riding capability and six-cylinder dynamics in attractive basic colours, exclusive style and noble Option 719 variants. Option 719 “Midnight” with water transfer printing method for K 1600 B and K 1600 Grand America.

Starting from these solid foundations, the new V4 Pikes Peak was developed by introducing significant changes in terms of chassis set-up, premium ergonomics, electronic controls as well as numerous dedicated components, which give the bike a distinctly sportier attitude compared to the Multistrada V4. Ducati, once again, promises to delight a wide range of riders looking for the purest performance within the dual bikes universe.

The design work behind this new project develops starting from the peculiar elements of the Multistrada V4 family, integrating them with the two elements that mainly identify this Pikes Peak version from an aesthetic and functional perspective, namely the 17” front wheel and the single-sided swingarm. The racing soul of the bike is intensified by the dedicated “Pikes Peak” livery, faithfully inspired both in colours and graphics by that of the Desmosedici GP ’21; even the number plates on both sides of the fuel tank contribute to highlight the deep link with the world of competitions.

With the aim to further emphasise its sporty-oriented attitude the new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak comes with a wide range of components made of carbon fibre in addition to the Akrapovič titanium and carbon silencer (road-approved). Others distinctive aesthetic elements are the low smoked plexi, Öhlins front fork anodised gold legs, two-tone Black and Red rear saddle embellished with the V4 logo and the Ducati Corse badge applied to the “beak”.

The chassis compartment of the new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is part of the revolution. With the respect to the Multistrada V4, it has in fact been significantly revised. First and foremost, it has been developed around the 17” front wheel, which ensures the rider great precision and responsiveness. The new machine is fitted with sports road tyres (sizes: 120/70 front; 190/55-17 rear) and mounts Marchesini forged aluminum rims , 2.7 kg lighter than those of the Multistrada V4 S, which make the dynamic behaviour of the vehicle therefore more effective and contribute to the reduction of the total weight amount of 4 kg compared to the Multistrada V4 S. Additionally, Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension also guarantees brilliant performance in sports riding, through the use of an “event based” mode, the same adopted by the Panigale V4 S and the Streetfighter V4 S, which automatically adjusts the setting according to the user’s riding style.

The aluminum monocoque frame has been refreshed with the precise objective of achieving a different inclination of the steering head (25.75° compared to the 24.5° of the Multistrada V4), not to mention that trail and wheelbase geometry have been recalibrated according to the different uses of the motorcycle.

The braking system of the new V4 Pikes Peak is at the top of the segment and derives directly from that of the Panigale V4. At the front, the system includes 330 mm diameter discs and Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers, like the Multistrada V4 S, to which are added the pads of the Panigale V4. At the rear, the system features a single 265 mm diameter disc with a Brembo floating caliper.

The new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak stands out even for its dedicated ergonomics, specifically designed to ensure maximum control and optimise lean angles. With respect to the Multistrada V4 the riding position has been completely refreshed: the footpegs, for example, are higher and moved back to increase the maximum lean angle, while the handlebar is lower, narrower and has contained curved bars. The final result is that the rider benefits of an even better feeling in sporty riding while maintaining an excellent level of comfort.

The new Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is powered by the most powerful engine within the category, the admired V4 Granturismo, achieving 170 hp with a maximum torque of 125 Nm at 8,750 rpm. This engine, specifically designed by Ducati for the Multistrada V4 family, results extremely lightweight – 66.7 kg only – and compact. Thanks to these features Ducati engineers create an uncompromised equilibrium with perfect mass centralization. With a displacement of 1160 cc, the V4 Granturismo engine ensures top-of-the-segment power and torque levels. In addition, the V4 Granturismo represents also a reference in terms of versatility and reliability, featuring a record-breaking maintenance intervals, with valve play checks scheduled every 60,000 km.

The V4 Granturismo engine has been optimised to intensify the characteristics of the bike and features some innovations. Among these, the introduction of the Race Riding Mode , which represents a first for Multistrada models. The Race option is added to a more racing strategy for the limiter, which intervenes more gradually than in the Multistrada V4, in order to alert the biker in advance and allow him a more effective sporty drive in terms of gear changes within the high area of the rev counter. The quickshifter also has a dedicated strategy that allows extremely aggressive downshifts, as well as the implementation of an even more direct throttle response in High Power Mode.

The Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak inherits the latest generation and sophisticated electronic package of the Multistrada V4 S, which includes, among others, the as-standard radar technology both at the front and at the rear, which offers Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) functionality.

The 6.5” TFT dashboard, also available as standard on the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, allows the user to view the map navigator thanks to the advanced Ducati Connect system, which allows to mirror the rider’s smartphone.

Electronics innovations are, also in this case, aimed at obtaining a better sporty driving experience. In addition to the introduction of the Race Riding Mode, Ducati Wheelie Control on the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak has an updated strategy that offers an even better response and a more accurate control during dynamic riding. ABS Cornering has also been configured to be safe and performing in whatever riding situation, even in the sportiest.

The Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is a technologically advanced motorcycle, designed for those who love the thrill of sporty riding, especially on mountainous twisties or between the kerbs of a race track.

The bike will be available at the Ducati dealers network starting at December 2021 in the Radar trim, which is fitted with both front and rear radar system.

In Europe, Ducati offers the customers the “4Ever Multistrada”, the 4-year exclusive warranty available for all Multistrada models. It has unlimited mileage and is guaranteed by the entire Ducati dealer network.

Ducati Performance catalogue features a wide range of accessories to enhance the characteristics of the bike and make it a unique gem.

New colours for Yamaha’s market leading scooters

Yamaha’s highly successful line-up of Sport Scooters and Urban Mobility vehicles continues to offer Europe’s riders one of the widest and most varied choices of 2- and 3-wheel models from 125cc through to 560cc.

Set against the many challenges brought about by the global pandemic, Yamaha’s Scooter sales have proved to be extremely strong, with the key models increasing their overall sales and taking a greater market share.

The NMAX 125 is far and away the best performer in its category, with a leading market share to date in 2021. This is a particularly competitive segment, and following the launch of the updated model in December 2020 the NMAX 125 has consistently outsold its closest rival by a considerable margin.

Yamaha’s dynamic XMAX 300/XMAX 300 Tech MAX Sport Scooter is an established name in the 300cc category, leading the market since its first appearance in 2017 – and is currently in close competition for market leadership with a strong market share from January to July 2021.

Best seller in 2020, the successful XMAX 125/XMAX 125 Tech Max is a pioneer among the most popular Sport Scooters in the 125cc category, and has recorded very strong sales right through summer 2021 – despite a late start to the sales season.

With its best-in-class weight and impressive autonomy, the Tricity 300 is Yamaha’s premium 3-wheel Urban Mobility model that has won a robust market share in the first half of 2021 despite pandemic-related production challenges. Considering the model is a relative newcomer to this very competitive segment, taking around 1-in-4 of all sales when competing against long-established models shows that the Tricity 300 offers the customer the right formula of performance, style and value.

Another Yamaha sales success can be seen with the recently updated D’elight. This lightest-in-class 125cc Urban Mobility model has recently doubled its sales volume, and this affordable and stylish scooter has taken an established position in its category to date in 2021.

Following the success of the Street Twin Gold Line Edition launched earlier in 2021, which sold out within the season, the new range of eight Bonneville Gold Line Editions takes the latest generation models and adds a unique and exquisite hand-painted ‘gold line’ colour scheme to each. Perfectly illustrating the quality and attention to detail that Triumph is renowned for, and only available for one year, these new Gold Line Editions are premium, desirable and exclusive.

The Art of Gold Lining
The industry-leading hand-painted gold lining expertise of Triumph’s paint shop is a skill that takes incredible patience, years of experience and the steadiest of hands.

Many of the new Gold Line Edition designs start with a two-colour base scheme, where the joining point between the two colours is flattened down. The gold line is then carefully hand-applied, usually in one continuous stroke by the artist, using a very specialised soft-bristled sword-liner brush. Once the pin stripe is in place, it’s sealed against the elements with a final clear coat of lacquer.

The paints used for the gold lining are specially formulated by mixing a powered colour with a cellulose lacquer for exactly the right consistency, as normal automotive paint is too thin for brush work.

Just like every hand-lined Triumph, the artist adds the finishing detail to each Gold Line Edition by signing their work with their initials, providing a personal touch that makes every hand-painted Triumph special.

Bonneville T100 Gold Line Edition
The Bonneville T100 is the perfect entry-point to Triumph’s acclaimed Modern Classics range, with confidence-inspiring handling, a punchy 900cc twin engine, and a high level of specification including cartridge forks, Brembo front brake with ABS, torque assist clutch and switchable traction control, and of course all of the Bonneville’s signature style.

The Bonneville T100 Gold Line Edition features all of the latest generation updates including the additional 10PS peak power, for a total of 65PS at 7,400rpm and punchy peak torque of 80Nm at 3,750rpm. The low inertia engine is responsive and fully Euro 5 compliant.

The Bonneville T100 Gold Line Edition features a beautiful Silver Ice fuel tank, front and rear mudguards, and side panels, combined with a classic Competition Green fuel tank infill, edged with hand-painted gold lining and subtle ‘gold line’ logo. The Competition Green is also present on the side panel stripe graphics with unique new white and gold Bonneville T100 logos and hand-painted gold lining.

Completing the look, the accessory fly screen is now available in a matching Silver Ice.

Street Scrambler Gold Line Edition
Triumph’s stylish and accessible urban Street Scrambler is powered by the latest generation Euro 5 compliant High Torque 900cc twin engine, with a unique Scrambler tune. It delivers strong power and torque exactly where you need it, with 65PS peak power at 7,250rpm and 80Nm peak torque at 3,250rpm. It’s comfortable, fun and really intuitive to ride, with high-specification cartridge forks and preload-adjustable twin rear shocks, wire spoked wheels with Metzeler Tourance tyres, and a Brembo front brake with switchable ABS

The Gold Line Edition adds to the Street Scrambler’s premium custom style and detailing, with a special Matt Pacific Blue scheme that perfectly suits the bike’s urban attitude and rugged style. The rich blue of the tank beautifully contrasts with the Graphite tank stripe and brushed foil knee pad graphics, both of which have accompanying hand-painted gold lining. The Triumph tank logo echoes that same gold.

The mudguards are finished in a premium Matt Jet Black, as is the side panel, which features a new gold Street Scrambler logo.

An accessory fit matching Matt Pacific Blue flyscreen and high-level mudguard will further add to the authentic Scrambler style.

Bonneville Speedmaster Gold Line Edition
Already a custom classic icon, the new Bonneville Speedmaster Gold Line Edition adds another level of sophistication and style. The beautiful Silver Ice fuel tank with Sapphire Black twin stripe design and brushed foil knee pad graphics is enriched by the hand-painted gold lining that edges every design element and is signed off with the elegant ‘gold line’ logo.

The Sapphire Black is carried across the side panels, which feature a unique new gold and silver Bonneville Speedmaster logo and more hand-painted gold lining. The headlamp bowl and mudguards are finished in Sapphire Black too, with the option of a matching accessory fit short front mudguard.

As with the rest of the Gold Line Editions, the Speedmaster Gold Line Edition is the very latest specification and delivers all of the comfortable, controlled and refined ride that customers expect from the Speedmaster thanks to its 47mm Showa cartridge forks, pre-load adjustable hidden monoshock RSU and twin Brembo front calipers. The low 705mm seat height, swept back beach bars and forward foot controls deliver a laid back, comfortable cruiser style.

The new Speedmaster Gold Line Edition is powered by the latest Euro 5 compliant version of the 1200cc High Torque Bonneville twin engine, delivering 78PS peak power at 6,100rpm and 106Nm peak torque at 4,000rpm.

Bonneville Bobber Gold Line Edition
The new Bonneville Bobber Gold Line Edition’s main design theme is Carnival Red, which is carried across the fuel tank and mudguards. The tank is enriched by a twin stripe design, with brushed foil knee pad graphics. These elements are edged with hand-painted gold lines, complementing the gold Triumph tank badges and the ‘gold line’ signature logo.

The side panels are finished in Sapphire Black, with a unique new gold and silver Bonneville Bobber logo and additional hand-painted gold lining.

The new Bonneville Bobber Gold Line Edition offers all of the latest generation’s updates which, together with the custom-inspired looks, delivers an excellent level of standard equipment, including twin Brembo front brakes with ABS, high-specification Showa suspension and a fat front wheel. The new Bobber Gold Line Edition is equipped with the responsive Euro 5 compliant High Torque 1200cc twin engine with dedicated Bobber tune, which delivers 78PS peak power at 6,100rpm and 106Nm peak torque at 4,000rpm.

An accessory fit matching Carnival Red short front mudguard is also available.

Bonneville T120 and T120 Black Gold Line Editions
Being the very latest specification Bonnevilles, the T120 and T120 Black Gold Line Editions feature all of the Bonneville’s torque-rich 1200cc twin performance, with 80PS peak power at 6,550rpm and 105Nm peak torque at 3,500rpm. Their sophisticated chassis set-up with 41mm cartridge forks, preload-adjustable twin RSUs and twin Brembo front calipers with ABS delivers a dynamic, agile and neutral ride.

The Bonneville T120 Gold Line Edition comes in a wonderful Competition Green and Silver Ice colour scheme. The classic Competition Green infill on the tank is edged with a hand-painted gold line and the subtle ‘gold line’ logo, while the side panels carry a stripe graphic, with a unique white and gold Bonneville T120 logo and hand-painted gold lining.

The mudguards are finished in Silver Ice and there’s an accessory fit matching Silver Ice flyscreen available too.

The Bonneville T120 Black Gold Line Edition, instead, has a darker edge thanks to the sophisticated Matt Sapphire Black paint scheme running across the tank, front and rear mudguards, headlamp bowl and side panels.

The tank infill is Matt Silver Ice, hand-edged with gold line detailing, as are the side panel stripe graphics, which feature a unique new black and gold logo design. The scheme perfectly complements the blacked-out engine, black exhaust system and the wealth of blacked-out details that give the Bonneville T120 Black its characteristic mean and moody attitude.

Both versions of the T120 feature all of the latest generation updates, such as the lightweight aluminium wheels, cruise control and enhanced riding modes, making the T120 and T120 Black Gold Line Editions even more premium and desirable.

Scrambler 1200 XC and XE Gold Line Editions
The Scrambler 1200 also gets its own Gold Line Editions – the versatile XC with its plush suspension and unrivalled, all-road, all-day performance and comfort, and the stunning XE – the world’s first genuine dual purpose modern classic adventurer, with a category-leading level of performance and specification.

Both models are powered by the latest generation Euro 5 High Power 1200cc Bonneville twin engine and both benefit from state-of-the-art rider-focused technology and an exceptional level finish and detailing.

The Scrambler 1200 XC Gold Line Edition comes in a stylish combination of Carnival Red and Storm Grey, with a hand-painted gold line running alongside an Aluminium Silver tank stripe and the subtle signature ‘gold line’ logo. The brushed foil knee pad graphics are also edged with a hand-painted gold line.  The side panel and headlamp bowl are both finished in the classic Jet Black.

The scheme for the Scrambler 1200 XE Gold Line Edition consists of a striking Baja Orange and Silver Ice tank, with a Pure White stripe and hand painted gold line.  As with the XC model, the brushed foil knee pad graphics are gold-lined, and the side panel and headlamp bowl are Jet Black.
