Silverstone Auctions Return To The NEC Classic Motor Show For Their Tenth Year

Silverstone Auctions return to the NEC Classic Motor Show for their tenth year and introduce a dedicated motorcycle sale for the show.

Silverstone Auctions are returning to The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, for their tenth year as the official auction partner for the popular motoring event. Taking place on the weekend of the 12th – 14th November, a dedicated motorcycle sale will take place on Friday 12th, followed by their classic car and automobilia sales on the Saturday and Sunday (13th – 14th).

The motorcycle sale is a new addition for the 2021 event at the NEC, this follows the introduction of the motorcycle department within Silverstone Auctions earlier this year – which has already seen a successful sales rate of over 70%. A number of historic and collectable motorcycles are already confirmed for the auction, including this 1950 Vincent Series ‘C’ Rapide. With matching-numbers, this Series ‘C’ Rapide has a known history from new and still remains in outstanding condition. This bike had a lengthy feature in Classic Bike 2013 which is included within the history file. Ready to grace any serious collection, it is sensibly guided at £35,000 – £45,000.

Another bike confirmed in the catalogue is this 1939 Brough Superior SS80 with Alpine ‘Petrol Tube’ Sidecar. This outstanding and desirable example is possibly the most complete and original Brough Superior Combination ever to be offered at auction. This distinctive motorcycle has a known history from day one and is a true rarity which is rarely seen on the open market. Estimated at £50,000 – £60,000.

Mark Bryan, motorcyclist specialist for Silverstone Auctions added “We already have a number of unrepeatable examples for our debut motorcycle sale at the NEC. Bikes play a huge part in the wider event so it is fitting that we can now offer clients an opportunity to sell (and buy) at this classic event. If you are interested in submitting your bike, you can join the catalogue next to some truly superb examples with great provenance.”

Well-presented and crossing the block on the 12th is this 1921 Triumph Model H 550cc. This bike has been in the same family ownership since 1968 and has had an older restoration which has aged really well. With correct numbers, it is a great Banbury Run machine and is complete with its old RF60 Buff Logbook. Silverstone Auctions have sensibly guided this bike at £10,000 – £12,000.

This garage find 1978 Harley-Davidson SX125 (pic top of the page) has covered just 712 miles from new! Built by Harley’s former Italian subsidiary, Aermacchi, it is remarkably original and unrestored – having been with the same owner until the start of this year. From the last year of production, this is a rare bike and is estimated at £4,000 – £5,000.

If you are interested in submitting your classic car, collector motorcycle or piece of automobilia, the auction house are inviting you to join their already fabulous lot list for the sale. To talk to a member of their expert team, you can email enquiries@silverstoneauctions.com or contact them on 01926 691141. Hammond Funds Historic Car Restoration Business With His Own Vehicles

Richard Hammond has put up eight of his vehicles to be sold by Silverstone Auctions at The Classic at Silverstone on Sunday 1 August. All proceeds are to support his new business venture The Smallest Cog, a classic vehicle restoration business that will be documented in Richard Hammond’s Workshop (working title), a brand-new original docuseries airing on discovery+ UK later this year.

“The irony of me supporting my new classic car restoration business by selling some of my own classic car collection is not wasted on me” stated Hammond. He went on to add “It is with a very heavy heart that they go, as they have a great deal of personal sentimental value, but they will be funding the future development of the business and giving life back to countless other classic vehicles.”

Several of the classics are personal favourites of Hammond, with classic and limited-edition motorcycles he bought himself for his 40th and 50th birthdays on offer, as well as a much-loved family heirloom in the 1959 Bentley S2.

The other lots include a stunning 1969 Porsche 911T, a 1927 Sunbeam Model 2 motorcycle, a classic 1999 Lotus Esprit Sport 350 which is number 5 of 48 built, a 1932 Velocette KSS Mk1 and a highly collectable 1977 Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk1. The entire collection is being offered without reserve.

Separate to his private collection, a widely publicised and beautifully restored Ford RS2000 was also due to go under the hammer the same weekend, but Hammond has deferred the release of this vehicle until the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show Sale in September 2021 which will be hosted by Silverstone Auctions’ sister company, Classic Car Auctions (CCA). This is to allow more time for The Smallest Cog to complete the car to their exacting standards.

Nick Whale, Managing Director of Silverstone Auctions, added “We are delighted to have Richard both attending our sale on 1 August but also joining us on the rostrum to introduce the collection. These vehicles clearly have a special place in his heart, so I’m sure it is going to be a day of mixed emotions for him, but we are confident we can deliver a keen bidding audience that will do his new business proud, we wish him the best of luck.”

The Classic Sale at Silverstone is taking place from Friday 30 July through to Sunday 1 August in The Wing Building at Silverstone. The Richard Hammond Collection will be offered from 2pm during the Sunday auction.

Confirmed For The May Sale – Dungeon Find Rudge Whitworths

1928 Rudge Whitworth Sports Special

Two bikes belonging to the late 1980’s Award Winning Chef, Simon Morris are heading to Silverstone Auctions May Sale on 22nd May.

Both bikes have been stored at the family home for almost 25 years in of all places, the old dungeon storeroom. Simon, famous for his motorcycling exploits around India and curry recipes, restored these bikes some time back and used them on a regular basis.

The two bikes are 500cc 4 valve 4 speed model, one a 1927 flat tank example and the other 1928 sports special. The 1928 Sports special is mostly unrestored and original and took part in the 1990 Isle of Man TT “Lap of Honour”, press cuttings and programme included. Over the years it has been modified into a ‘Sports Special’ having been off the road for 20+ years and is not a great bike for the track and road and Banbury Run eligible. The 1927 Four Valve is an older restoration and was featured in the July 1989 British Bike Magazine, copy included. This special bike has been stored indoors for some time and its engine still turns with a good compression. Silverstone Auctions are proud to be offering this original, collectable and Banbury Run eligible bike in their next sale.

Mark Bryan, Motorcycle Manager for Silverstone Auctions, added “This is a really unique opportunity to acquire these fascinating bikes with such provenance and to be able to release them from the dungeons. I am excited to see the two bikes go under the hammer on the 22nd May, it is not to be missed!”

Silverstone Auctions are offering in person viewings of the motorcycles from 12th – 21st May at Stoneleigh Park. Viewings require an appointment, and this should be made by calling 01926 691141.

Motorcycle Manager Mark Bryan can be contacted on 07958 107974, by emailing markb@silverstoneauctions.com or via their website if you would like more information.
